Hello Simon,
In my country, our first name in our passport usually has dash between two words such as Cheh-jen. So when we fill in the our first name in the entry form, should be Cheh-jen or Chehjen or either ways? Does it has to be totally sames on passport?
Thanks for helping.

A hyphen is usually replaced by a space

Good day Brit, I’m Avi, I just filled and submitted the application over the weekend for dv. I chose vocational education over high school. I just realised that I needed work experience and I don’t have any work experience related to my vocational education but I have high school equivalent to US high school. Will that be a consideration or disqualification?
Kind regards
October 15, 2020 at 20:09
The selection you made makes no difference to your chance of being selected. Then you need to meet the education OR work experience requirement by the time of interview which is 1 to 2 years from now. So – relax!

Hello Britsimon,
I have 2 questions .
1: One of my child born in saudi arabia and his name on birth certificate is not same as passport which they usually use baby name plus father name .In dv2022 I used same as passport name on both fields .
2: If my husband cannot talk in english what will be the effect.
Appreciate If you clear my above doubts
October 13, 2020 at 15:55
1. There is no question here.
2. He will be bored in the interview.
October 13, 2020 at 16:13
Hello Britsimon,
My first question is basically will be my dv rejected in case birth certificate has minor name difference as compared with passport because for dv2022 I considered same as passport name on both namming field for my son.
October 13, 2020 at 20:55
Not normally a problem – especially for a derivative.
October 13, 2020 at 15:24
hello brit how are u?
Please i have question .
I want to participate in charles kuck lawsuit .
How can i know that iam not plantiff in gomez cause i have filled a AILA form in your website did they pick randomely or there is a list of gomez plantiff.
Do you think that there is chance for dv2020 visa holder (sub to pp 10014) if trump win? What do you think can the judge stop the ban for dv2020 cause they have only one chance .
Thank you !!!

Hi Brit,
I Hope you are doing okay. Should the Children over the age of 21 be mentioned on their parents DV lottery application?
October 13, 2020 at 17:58
I just saw on the application that only children under the age 21 should be listed. Thanks
October 13, 2020 at 16:35
Hello simon,
I have mistakenly entered the marriage date wrong as i have entered marriage registration date rather marriage date. Do i need to unlock the ds260 ?
October 13, 2020 at 20:57
Yes
October 13, 2020 at 16:45
What about this plaintiff sir? I am dv 2021 winner, should I participate in this? Is it legal / authentic information by the authentic lawyer? Could you please make us clear?

Hi Simon,
2021AS38XX
I sent an email to KCC after 4 weeks of sending my docs to verify whether they’ve received it or not and they replied to me stating that the docs are generally processed based on lottery rank number.
1) What is lottery rank number? Is it the same as case number?
2) If (1) is Yes, I’ve seen someone in the comments receiving documents confirmation with a case number of 2021SA3k+. If I may assume, my case number is relatively lower..?
3) Regarding public charge; I’ve read a reply from you to a question where the person had asked if it’s okay to deposit a fairly large amount of money in his account, and you mentioned that he’d have to justify/proof where the money came from. I have a similar situation where my parents are ready to provide me with money as a gift incase I get a visa to start a new life, roughly around 15~20k deposited into my account, and it would be roughly 1-2 months before my interview. Is that an acceptable justification? If not, how else can I justify that money? P.s. I also have a U.S sponsor providing i-134.
Thanks in advance
October 13, 2020 at 21:31
1. Yes
2. The whole region won’t be expected to wait for you to submit your forms. So – that means some cases with higher case numbers will have been processed before you.
3. The I-134 is all you need.
October 14, 2020 at 13:34
Thank you for your usual generous support Brit,
My question is am i supposed to go with 1-134 for an interview? I have tried to read information about preparations for DV interview. If its there and i have just not seen it, my apologies, and i need more support.
Thank you.

October 13, 2020 at 19:03
Hello Britsimon!
I have two questions:
A person who is called Vee asked you a question which i can’t find again, but anyhow and as I remember he asked you about the balance in the bank statement by the interview as DV winner and you said he has to show something like 25000 USD. Do really I need as a DV winner to show that big amount in the bank statement by the interview?
The second question is about the photo for the DV entry which even my photographer couldn’t help. The pics of my two children 1yo and 3yo shows that the head is bigger than required or other reasons according to the photo check tools, but anyhow I took photos of them by my mobile and used the the website which you recommended to crop the photos as required. Now when I check on the photo check tool it says that the photos are approved. Do you think I can trust these website and apply by a photo been taken by a mobile?
Regards
October 13, 2020 at 21:33
1. A better idea is to show an I-134 – otherwise yes, some COs will expect to see substantial savings.
2. Yes
October 13, 2020 at 19:08
Hi Brit,
I am DV2021*** selectee just realized after submitting DS-260 i made a mistake in address dates i.e current starts from Jan 2015 to Date while previous address from Jan 2001 to december 2015 therefore showing that I lived in both addresses at the same time (Jan 2012 – Dec 2015) Do I need to request file unlock to edit the mistake?
Thank you.
October 13, 2020 at 22:07
I would.
October 14, 2020 at 13:42
I had the same problem. Actually when I applied for the green card lottery I put my address in Italy even tho at the moment I was living in Ireland. Because basically I had two addresses.
Now filling the 260 form I put that I lived in both addresses at the same time .
I put Ireland from August 2019 to March 2020 and in Italy from November 2017 til January 2020. This was the truth cause I had both addresses and I was going back and forth from the two places since my daughter was living there. My daughter also lived there in Italy til January 2020. Will I have problems because of that? Or how u did it’s fine?
October 14, 2020 at 16:07
No real problem.
October 13, 2020 at 20:39
Hi Brit,
My sister by luck got her visa issued Sep 28 just before the deadline from Moscow Embassy. I know the travel ban is in place but is there any creative way that people used to travel to usa with a newly issued DV visa? Any examples of someone who managed to come to US ? Is there anything that can be done or just wait until Dec 31 and hope there is no extension ?
Thanks,
L
October 13, 2020 at 22:10
The only example I know of got refused at the US airport.
October 13, 2020 at 20:50
Hi Brit
Kudos for all the write-up Sir, really educative. Pls is there any hope for those whose AP have been stopped due to end of fiscal year 2020? They returned my passport back today without a visa. Can I still have some hopes? Or this is e end of DV 2020 for me? Thanks
October 13, 2020 at 22:13
If the judge agrees to start processing again you might be able to get one of the 9095 – BUT the problem is whether your AP completed or not. If it did not complete before the end of the year, it is likely that you would not get a visa.
October 14, 2020 at 05:30
Thanks for your reply Sir, I really appreciate. Pls what in a situation where someone went for interview on the 29th and AP was not completed e next day which was 30th dateline. Sir, can that person not be considered? Thanks
October 14, 2020 at 15:50
In a normal year that person would have no further chance. This year, because of the lawsuit, there is a small chance of issuance later.
October 14, 2020 at 18:58
Thanks so much for ur time Sir. God bless you
October 13, 2020 at 21:16
What is the website link to 2022 diversity Green card lottery .The following site is not function
1) dvprogram.state.gov
2) travel.state.gov.

That works. If it doesn’t work for you, perhaps your connection is not good.

Dear Brit
I am looking for some guidance on DS/260 in the past email addresses and socialmedia section, going back 5 years.
Do you know what used means in this context? I.e. Does that require that emails had to be sent from these accounts within the last 5 years? Or would the clock already be reset by a refresh of the inbox by a phone or other device? The question arises due to the quite time-consuming gathering of old / funny e-mail addresses that might be older than 5 years and were set up to receive newsletters / coupons and the like. Are these required as well? How much time shall one spend to gather this information? Does it matter? Thank you!
October 13, 2020 at 22:16
Do the best you can to be honest.
October 13, 2020 at 23:30
Mr Brit
Police certificate obtained from UK expires on first week of January 2021.
Is it necessary to renew it?
My spouse was there in 2009 and stays one and half year and came back . Not visited there again .Already got the police certificate and having doubt do I need to renew it.
I’m a DV 2020 winner.Not interviewed yet.
October 14, 2020 at 03:52
1. Maybe.
2. Where?
October 13, 2020 at 23:47
I want to register in dv 2022 and my husband …. my husband does not have a passport, can I put it in my registration ???
October 14, 2020 at 03:51
You can enter him as your derivative, but to create his own entry he would need a passport.
October 14, 2020 at 01:17
Hello Simon,
If I am currently doing my medical specialty on a J1 visa in the US, does applying affects my J1 visa renewal every year
Thank you for your advice.
October 14, 2020 at 03:50
Entering the lottery will not affect it.
October 14, 2020 at 03:42

Hi Brit,
My wife is 2021af62*** but didn’t play with a passport due to the current arm conflict in southern Cameroon. She has been in the refugee camp in Nigeria since 2018 and had to play the 2021 lottery as a stateless person before we got married since she could not come back to her village due to the arm conflict. I finally brought her back and we did our wedding in December 2019. My question is;
1) can she go for a cameroonian passport now?
2)If the first question is no, what can she do now because we have to start processing the ds260.
3)we got married in December 2019. Is there any problem if we submit ds260 with me as the husband?
Thanks.
October 14, 2020 at 15:48
1. She will obviously need a passport. She must get one of course, but then there is a risk she will be denied because she obviously wasn’t stateless.
2. See 1
3. Not for that, but disqualification is likely because of the passport rule.
If I were you I would wait until we start hearing what happens to other people who also ignored the passport rule.
October 14, 2020 at 05:19
Hello simon,
I have filled ds260 form of all the family members, i want my child to be immigrate with me but due to some issues i dont want my spouse to immigrate with me but he can immigrate later. I have filled the form accordingly like the options they provided either you want them to immigrate with you or not and i selected child to immigrate with me and spouse to immigrate later. Does this creates a problem? And another thing is, what should i write in the spouse section in the dd260 form of the accompany (spouse) information??
Thanks in advance simon.
October 14, 2020 at 15:50
1. No problem.
2. You should complete the form including your spouse of course.
October 14, 2020 at 17:42
as i am the principal applicant , i want to clear you that i have filled my ds260 and my child ds260 form and left my spouse ds260 form for a while because i am confused what to write in the spouse information part in regard of spouse( accompany ) ds260 . As being a principal applicant i filled my spouse information in my ds260 but it is again asking about spouse information in my spouse’s ds260 so do i need to provide my information there as well in the accompany ds260 spouse section ??
Thank you simon for you positive answer.
October 14, 2020 at 23:40
Each of you list the other as the spouse.
October 15, 2020 at 03:54
Thank you for the response simon, what should i select in the immigration section of my spouse’s form spouse section where there will be my details. As i don’t want my spouse to immigrate with me at the moment and selected immigrate later in my principal applicant but confused with the accompany’s application in the spouse section .
October 15, 2020 at 19:09
I’m not sure what you are struggling with – and I don’t have access to the form at the moment, so please just relax, look carefully at the form and answer each question as you see it.
October 14, 2020 at 07:02
Hello Mr. Simons
I sent my documents to kcc seven weeks ago and i didn’t receive any reply what shall I do.
October 14, 2020 at 07:38

Greetings sir it’s 4month since I submit my ds260 I have not received any interview mail please help me
October 15, 2020 at 20:10
No one is getting interviewed right now. No one. So wait.
October 14, 2020 at 22:40
Hi Brit, Please, I am DV 2021 selectee. I have submitted my ds260 already. I’m not sure I filled the portion of my marriage date correctly. We married on 5th Oct 1996, which was a Saturday but we registered the marriage on 8th Oct 1996, which was Tuesday. But I made my marriage date the same as the registration date (8th Oct 1996). Pls is it wrong, and should I unlock it to correct it? My CN is AF45XXX and I have unlocked it once.
October 15, 2020 at 00:16
You could correct that, but it’s not a big problem.

Hi Brit,
I am 2021AF46k….I asked you a question a few weeks ago but somehow I lost track of where I had posted the question.so I couldn’t know whether it was answered. I am so sorry for that. Let me ask the question again and this time I won’t make the same mistake.
I moved to South africa twice for nine months on both occasions which is less than the one year requirement for a police certificate from South Africa. But in aggregate I spent 18 months in South Africa. Do i need the police certificate from South Africa
October 14, 2020 at 15:54
Yes
October 14, 2020 at 10:04
Hello Brit,
Thank you for all your support, you are great person!
I have a question and I think some of us are in this situation.
1- I can’t get an I-134 just because all the the people that I asked for help refused me (personal reasons…I don’t know why)
2- I have some savings around 15k $ , and also I can get a job offer in a restaurant ( this restaurant was really busy this season despite the fact that is was a pandemic), I used to work there as a J1’s student 5 summers .
The CO will take these things into account so as not to be in a situation where I have problems with the public charge rule ? They will provide me a good wage on that job offer and also they will provide me free accomodation.
Thank you so much, I appreciate!
October 14, 2020 at 15:55
Those factors might be enough to get approval.
October 14, 2020 at 10:39
Hi Simon,
We appreciate your work.
My application is not going through at the final stage, i had this problem last year too. Could i be banned because i accidentally made multiple entries in 2018?
October 14, 2020 at 15:56
That is not why it is not going through. You have to complete the entry faster, on a good internet connection, and perhaps try a different browser or PC.
October 14, 2020 at 10:44
Hello Simon and thank you for your hard work . As I am a winner of dv2021 , I already completed DS260 also got confirmed my scanned documents. I was using my work email for receiving emails from KCC but as at worked changed something , my email will shut down . How should I proceed in this case , write at Kcc to send me my next emails to another email or should unlock DS and change there the email for my next KcC informations.
October 14, 2020 at 15:58
You can ask KCC to unlock your DS260 to update your email.
October 14, 2020 at 11:08
Hi Mr Simon
Is it compulsory to use crop tool even if the photo meets all the requires ?
October 14, 2020 at 15:59
No
October 14, 2020 at 11:10
Hi Brit,
If you have a case number that “should” go current in March and withdraw from a DV21 suit and terminate their services say in November (based on what happens), are you still named on it by time of interview somehow?
October 14, 2020 at 15:59
Ask the lawyers.
October 14, 2020 at 12:03
Hi Brit, my partner and I have lived together for years without legal marriage document and have a 9 yes-old daughter. We now live separately. How should I enter the DV at the marriage status this year? I mean only my daughter and I put in the application form? Is it ok to do that? Thanks

Hi dear Simon
My CN is 2021AF19k
When I try to check my visa statue on ceac it tells : ” invalid case number ” what’s wrong ?
October 14, 2020 at 16:05
2021 cases are not in CEAC yet – they won’t be available until January.
October 14, 2020 at 13:52
Hi Birt,
Can one become a plaintiff even if the DS260 is not submitted yet? (high case number)
Thank you!

I don’t know.
October 14, 2020 at 15:01
hey brit
i have a question i was about to submit my ds 260 but in the work experience part i was thinking of filling my high school sport participation o played soccer for four years in my high school is it applicable in my ds 260 form?
October 14, 2020 at 16:09
Only if you are Cristiano Ronaldo.
October 14, 2020 at 15:49
Mr Brit
I’m sorry I have to repeat the question again.
I’m DV winner 2020 from Asian region.. Documents are still at KCC.
My Spouce obtained police certificate already from United Kingdom. It expires first week of January
1. Is it necessary to renew the Police certificate ?
My Spouce was in UK in the year 2009 for nearly 18 months and he never visited there again.
October 14, 2020 at 16:42
The police cert is valid for up to 1 year. If you have never revisited that country, a CO can accept that police cert even after the validity period has passed.
October 14, 2020 at 15:57
dear brit
i want to ask question regarding plaintiffs and benifit that they get. Lawyer and you have said that they get priority than non named plaintiff. If case is won, priority is also given to paintiff; Should plaintiff have to wait for thei CN to be current?
if yes then, i dont see any benifits for high case number selectees. i want to know your opinion on how CN could work for plaintiffs?
I appreciate your work very much!
October 14, 2020 at 16:38
No lawsuit can get you a visa if your case number is not current.
October 14, 2020 at 21:03
Hi Brit,
I too appreciate your reply.
1) Could you elaborate on the potential benefit for people to join with high (2021) case numbers?
E.g. if my case number is ever going to go current it will probably already be summer. 2) I assume that by then, if the case was won, class could be confirmed, or if not it is likely that there may be another suit?
I am having a hard time to decide if I should join or not. I just don’t see enough of potential benefit. 3) What am I missing?
4) Or, could it be that the visa bulletin case numbers could be moving “very fast” this year (even due to the appearing overselection) maybe to allow AoS people to process, so they are not delayed by the slow moving or not moving consular process? What is your take on this idea?
Many thanks for your time and all you do!! Sorry to ask so many subquestions.
October 14, 2020 at 23:51
The point of the lawsuit is
a) For DV2020 people to enter before the Dec 31 ban end date.
b) to remove the ban to get faster processing for DV2021 (marginally faster) – but that won’t help high case numbers.
c) to remove the possibility of the ban being extended should Trump win.
AOS cases are not affected by the ban – so there is little/no benefit if you are doing AOS. And if you have a high case number you just have to wait and see what happens.
October 14, 2020 at 15:58
Dear Brit,
I would like you to thank you for your effort , & kindly answer my question regarding to delay social security card for me & my family despite of we are winning DV lottery 2020 and enter USA for first time at 26th of August 2020 (before visa validity end) & already have endorsement on dv visa and paid the fees of green card but until now there is no any news regarding to issuing social security card ( what I know the SSN should be issued within 3 or 4 weeks after entering the USA) so, what you recommend to me to do despite of I am now outside the USA .
October 14, 2020 at 16:37
Well, once you are back in the USA you should contact the SSA.
October 14, 2020 at 17:33
Give it time. I was admited in mid July and went back to my native country in late July. I got my GC in eary September and my SSN in early October. I never visited SSA since I had requested for a SSN while submitting my DS260. But I noticed the process is much faster if you appear in-person at SSA with original documents.
October 14, 2020 at 16:44
Hello Brit simons,
I submitted the documents to the kcc and on my daughter certificate there is written place of birth and day but not the hour. The council couldn’t add it for me even tho I ask them if they could.
Can this be a problem with the documentation ?
I am scared that they don’t answer to my documents email for that and that they will not give me an interview.
October 14, 2020 at 16:51
Worrying over nothing.
October 14, 2020 at 17:28
Hi
I have planned to apply DV2021 alone and need to bring my family members later if i win Visa. can i do it??????? What are the processes??????
October 14, 2020 at 23:38
You must include your spouse and children. Other than that no other family members can be included.
October 14, 2020 at 17:46
DV2020 winner here:
My passport is expiring in 5 months (March 2021 – less then 6 months)… if I come to an interview at any point from now on, will this be a problem for issuing a visa?
…Or should i get a new passport & bring the old one (from the application) with me then?
October 14, 2020 at 23:40
Get a new one, and be prepared to show old and new passports at the interview.
October 14, 2020 at 19:54
Hey Simon ,
I have a bit of a problem I lost my green card while am over seas now am frustrated because I have a sort of a court problem in the states and I was processed with a probation officer and I violated my probation and I want to go back to u.s but I have to file the forum for green card replacement and am really afraid that they will not give my green card again my question is do u think I should do the process and see what happens and even tho what should I do the get the replacement and quick travel to u.s ??

Hello Sir.
I will be getting married soon but I already sent my DS-260 as single. I will obviously unlock my DS-260 and update after marriage. My CN is 2021AF35k.. My questions are;
1. Is adding my spouse as beneficiary a problem? (We have proofs of 5+ years of our relationship)
2. Is leaving her behind a good option considering the time it takes to file for a spouse?
Thank you sir

1. No
2. It’s not a good idea.

Hi Simon,
I got the visa already thanks, I have two questions
1_ The counselor advised me that I have exception to travel those days, is it true?
2- My sponsor is my uncle in NJ but I am planning to live in Florida, if the officer will ask me why don’t you go to your sponsor is it fine if I answer that I will not live with him as I want to live in another state? Or that might cause a problem for me ?
Thanks

1. Those days? When? Before December 31? No.
2. Doesn’t matter.

Hello Britsimon! As you know that I trust your opinions so much and that is why I need your help. I’m a DV 2021 winner with case number around AF 8300. With all these circumstances and hassle when do you think our interview will be? I’m asking this question because I live in another country and the interview will be in the homeland and my work needs long term planning and it is so urgent to keep the company informed at least 3 months in advance about my schedule since I work as a free lancer by contracting. Just tell me me what you guess with consideration for the DV 2020 winners who might share us the scheduled dates at the embassies.
Best regards

I can’t guess. There is too much unknown.

Hi Brit,
I’m dv winner for 2021. My brother-in-law is in us for 2 yrs now. It’s been one year since he started working. His income are enough to sponsor us. He will do his first tax file in January 2021. Will that be enough for sponsoring for two people(me and my partner). I have read somewhere that the sponsor needs to submit their 3 years tax file report. Is it true?

One year is enough

Pls I want to enter dv2022 for my daughter who is a Ghanaian but currently on government scholarship in Morocco. She will be back to Ghana next year. In question 10, “country where you live today” should I put Ghana or Morocco? If she gets selected she will prefer to have her interview in Ghana.

It doesn’t matter which she selects.

Hello Simon, your suggestions are very helpful. I want to know that is a person eligible for getting visa if he was convicted for carrying marijuana and , stayed into the custody for 1 month and bailed out paying penalty? If “YES” then what short of documents he has to prepare and submit along with the police report? Or if “NO” then why is so and what could possibly be done proactively to reconcile the problem? Anticipating your prompt response . Thank You!!
