Hi there Brit, my partner of 4 years was selected for the 2021 DV lottery. However, he has a very high number (so chances of interview are low). We are wanting to get married in the next year or 2.
If I apply for the 2022 DV lottery, will this affect his application or mine if we get married?
November 3, 2020 at 20:40
No.
November 3, 2020 at 19:35
Hello Brit,
I am EU number 22xxx. I submitted ds-260 very late, on November 2th.
What do you think is that a big fail for me regarding the interview schedule?
Thanks a lot for your effort!
November 3, 2020 at 19:37
I am referring to Diversity Lottery 2021…
Thanks again
November 5, 2020 at 07:05
Hello,
I’m EU participant, and my number is in 39xxx. I have already submitted DS260 form. Since the case number is high, I was wondering if it is possible to go to USA with a regular, non immigrant visa and apply for adjusment of status before cases reach 39xxx? Is it possible or it is only for those who win greencard while living in USA?
November 5, 2020 at 13:06
Well, even if that were possible, you still have to wait for your case number – so it doesn’t help you.
November 3, 2020 at 21:05
It won’t matter at all.
November 3, 2020 at 21:10
Thank you very much for your answer!
November 5, 2020 at 19:01
Hello mr.simon
I hope you will be always great.
Mr somin would you mind to regester the lottery for me ? Please.
I will be appreciated your helping.
I can send you my documents if you agree then.
Your: Nabaz kawan.
November 6, 2020 at 21:08
No I won’t do that.
November 3, 2020 at 22:20
Hello Sir,
I have submitted my DS260, currently awaiting feedback to submit my civic documents. My C/N is AF32***, could you please advise on the category of my number as either ( low, medium or high)
2. Do i have to wait for weeks or moths?
November 4, 2020 at 02:48
1. Medium
2. Months.
November 3, 2020 at 23:14
I got selected with AS36xxx, would you recommend applying to the lottery again this year? Am I allowed to?
November 4, 2020 at 02:47
Yes
November 4, 2020 at 02:56
Hi Dear Simon
I have a small doubt I live in Venezuela and I was selected for the DV2021 process and I would like to know if before the interview that is at the nearest embassy, since in my country the embassy is not working,The previous medical exams could be done in Venezuela or I should do in my case in Bogota as my interview will be there.
November 4, 2020 at 12:06
You have to have your medical with the physician approved by the interviewing embassy – so in Bogata.
November 4, 2020 at 05:56
Hello Brit ,
How looks the election, better for Biden ?
Thank You!
November 4, 2020 at 12:07
It’s very close, far closer than it should have been. We may not know who has won for a few days.
November 4, 2020 at 07:11
I am 21 and I put myself in my father and mother’s lottery. Are they going to be canceled because of my age?
November 4, 2020 at 12:09
No
November 4, 2020 at 18:55
You are already aged out at 21.
November 4, 2020 at 08:59
Hello,
Just wanted your opinion on my case!
I’ve read and listened to all your information on the dv2021 numbers and understand you believe in the oceanic region case numbers below 1500 are considered a good chance, however above 2000 are not so lucky this time round. I am in 1800’s, what are your thoughts on getting interview?
Thanks Simon 🙂
November 4, 2020 at 12:09
Obviously it’s in a range that I am not comfortable in predicting.
November 4, 2020 at 10:49
Hello brit thanks for your awsome website.
I wanted to know how likely is that a case disqualify at the interview because of the underexposed entry photo?
November 4, 2020 at 12:10
It depends on the photo, but photo refusals are rare.
November 4, 2020 at 13:00
Good evening Brit. My baby was born on October 22, 2020, can I play with Him?
if it is YES, his photo that I took with my phone his eyes are not open, it is as if he is sleeping. is this a problem, can i be disqualified because of it?
November 4, 2020 at 13:07
You can play with him, yes.
Try and get another photo. I suggest standing above the baby, who would be lying on a white sheet. If the baby is closing his eyes, make a loud sound just before you take the photo. You’ll have a few moments of a wide eyed look on his face, just before he cries. 🙂
November 4, 2020 at 13:10
Hi Brit, We r so interested abt us election… As of now Biden is leading rite? Then why trumoh says he won n he is going to court to stop votes countingt?confused.. can trumph do that?
November 4, 2020 at 13:12
It’s very close, far closer than it should have been. We may not know who has won for a few days.
November 4, 2020 at 13:12
Brit,if KCC send 2NL during month of November when will they start sending it?
November 4, 2020 at 13:14
Sir BRIT Hello. I will know before the draw on May 8, 2021, KCC will you proceed to verify the photos Badly taken, duplicates in order to disqualify them?
November 4, 2020 at 13:54
They will disqualify some cases like that, yes.
November 4, 2020 at 16:47
Hello Simon,
I’m trying to register for dv-2022
There is a problem in the application form that I found no answer to.
I’m from Kyrgyzstan but playing from another country. In section 4 form asks me to enter “city of birth”. In my certificate of birth the name of the city is Frunze, but now it is Bishkek. Which city should I enter so that my respond is correct?
Thanks!
November 5, 2020 at 04:11
Either name is fine.
November 4, 2020 at 18:32
Hi Brit, hope everything is going well for you. I am a DV-2021 selectee but I am applying for DV-2022. I’ve got two questions:
1. The instructions call for a photo with no shadows on the face. If the shadow is on the background (for example the wall behind the person in the photo), is this acceptable?
2. Is this background: https://imgur.com/G0SDgDM considered an off-white background?
Thanks a lot for your continuous support!
November 5, 2020 at 04:13
1. Only if the shadow is very minor.
2. No
November 5, 2020 at 08:32
Thanks for your answer.
Regarding your answer to question 2, I already filled my application using this background. Will my entry be disqualified?
November 5, 2020 at 13:08
I don’t think so.
November 4, 2020 at 19:11
Hello Simon,
Need you comment on name of city of birth.
In the certificate of birth, the city name is A.
Today, the official name of the city is B.
What must be entered in the DV lottery application? New city name?
Thanks!
November 5, 2020 at 04:13
A or B
November 4, 2020 at 19:27
Hello Brit, as a DV2021 winner I submitted my ds260 back in july and still haven’t heard from the KCC, I was wondering how long does take before they contact you to provide additional documents??
November 5, 2020 at 04:14
It varies.
November 4, 2020 at 21:06
Good evening sir. I was born 30/4/1993 and on my Baccalaureate it is written 30/4/1993, but on my passport it is written 30/4/1999. I want to register for the dv2022 lottery, I want to know if the date of birth on my passport I want to consider or it is the one on my baccalaureate diploma
November 5, 2020 at 04:15
Passport or birth certificate.
November 4, 2020 at 22:52
hullo Mr. Simon,
you probably remember me Isaac DV2020, yes i didn’t make it for the interview coz of the time limit but i thank God that some visas have been reserved, well Mr. Simon my question is that if Mr. Bidden wins the election, is there any good news for DV 2020 interms of the reserved visas and do you think the ban signed by Trump can be terminated by Joe bidden
thanks Mr., Simon
November 5, 2020 at 04:15
We have to wait and see.
November 5, 2020 at 02:39
Hello Brit
I am dv2020 selectee with 2 derivatives (spouse and a daughter). We had interview and got approved but we did not get our visa and on September the embassy told us that our case is on AP. We have a doubt that it might be related to my spouse. My spouse’s guardians attempted to take her to the US as their child years ago. But the embassy requested a DNA test. As a result, the process was aborted.
1. Will it be considered as a fraud?
2. Will they reject her?
3. Will my spouse’s rejection means my and my daughter’s rejection?
November 5, 2020 at 02:44
In case it may help, currently my spouse has made name change. She was called by her guardian’s name but now she changed it to her biological parents name.
November 5, 2020 at 04:16
1, 2 and 3. I don’t know.
November 5, 2020 at 06:43
Hello thank you so much for this huge job you’ve already did for us. I have question about this election. If Trump wins( Hope he doesn’t) what will happen to us who already got visas?
November 5, 2020 at 13:05
I don’t think you will have to worry about that.
November 5, 2020 at 07:13
Dear Simon, I would like to ask re the public charge.
I own an apartment which I have just paid off and the equivalent of $3000 cash in my bank. My bond is an access bond, which means I can draw up to about $35000 from it at any given point. Should I draw roughly $7000 from my bond into my bank account so that I can show $10000 cash in my bank for my public charge? Or can I leave it in my bond and just present evidence of that, even if it isn’t perfectly liquid in that form? My husband has investments overseas in the UK. Does he also have to cash in those investments to show liquid cash or can he show evidence of his investments rather? I would rather liquidate more of my bond than cash in his investments, because we would have to exchange his pounds into our bad currency. Thanks!
November 5, 2020 at 13:07
It is silly to cash in investments. Get an I-134, and you’re done.
November 5, 2020 at 07:58
Hello sir im a winner of 2021
https://ibb.co/sCJJ2cZ
Im really worried,in your opinion would this background cause my case to disqualify at the interview?
Thank you very much
November 5, 2020 at 13:07
I don’t think so – only the CO will decide.
November 5, 2020 at 09:52
Read on the internet that a judge in Illinois has vacated the Trump public charge rule a few days ago.
Link here: https://www.usnews.com/news/politics/articles/2020-11-02/us-judge-blocks-trump-immigration-rule-on-public-benefits
Q1. Does that mean no need to provide I-134 for DV inteview?
November 5, 2020 at 13:10
People are confusing different aspects of public charge. The I-134 can still be required.
November 5, 2020 at 10:34
Hi Simon, I have watched your video about max assigned case numbers for DV2021.
I assume the higher numbers might not get processed… Do you have any statistics from previous years about that?
Thanks!
November 5, 2020 at 13:11
Yes – the historical numbers are linked above, but every year is different, and this year will be different as well.
November 5, 2020 at 15:02
I meant statistics about highest case numbers getting visas issued… 🙂
November 6, 2020 at 21:00
That would not help you, because again, every year is different.
November 5, 2020 at 11:28
Without sounding condescending whatsoever, aren’t you embarrassed by your newly adopted homeland?
What we thought (most of the world) was a “blip of madness” in 2016 has turned out to be the “new culture of the USA” with 1 in every 2 Americans a “Trumpite”
His support has in fact increased massively on 2016
What does this mean for immigrants if 1 in every 2 Americans feel like Trump?
I even saw one guy on BBC News or ITV news saying he would die for Trump (literally) – The interviewer probed him further and he was dead serious ! He had Trump tattoos and the no. 45 all over his neck
That is the kind of love by 50% of the Americans they show Trump
Don’t you feel like returning to normal-cy in the UK
Elections in Europe are never like this, I thought this was the greatest democracy? Its embarrassing
November 5, 2020 at 13:24
Well yes I am sad that there are so many followers of Trump – but that is the nature of a democracy – even the idiots get a vote.
And as for “returning to normal-cy in the UK” – you must be kidding. Brexit showed the same type of stupidity exists in the British electorate as here. It’s hardly encouraging.
I live in California. It’s hellishly expensive here, because its worth it. In CA two thirds of the population voted for Biden (4:1 in my county). The California economy (by itself) is larger than the UK. That is with 20 million inhabitants less than the UK, and CA is about twice the size of the UK. I live within a few minutes drive of some of the best tech companies in the world. Whilst I did well in the UK professionally (very well by UK standards), my real *wealth* has mainly been built in the USA, and unlike the UK, no one had to lose for me to win. Oh, and I will be enjoying blue skies (actual blue skies) and sunshine for most of the year.
So no, I don’t plan to return to normal-cy, thanks very much.
November 5, 2020 at 15:18
Hi Simon,
I received my visa last moment (September 29). Thanks for your guidance.
My original Interview date is 2020 April 21.
We(Sri Lankan Citizen) went to Singapore 2019 and I came 2020 March 17 to Sri lanka for my Interview. Her (wife) Air ticket date is 2020 March 24 and Sri lankan government closed all the airport 2020 March 20. Still she struck in Singapore.
September 17, I had a call from US embassy an they schedule my new interview September 21. I went to interview and collect my visa.
1.What is the procedure for my Wife visa. We married 2017. No Children. Still She in Singapore.
2.Shall i wait for the Lawsuit result or contact embassy.
Thanks.
November 6, 2020 at 21:01
The embassy cannot issue a visa under DV2020. Most likely solution is that you go to the USA, find a job etc and then file an I-130 process to bring her. That will take about 2 years.
November 13, 2020 at 17:23
If embassy start processing “reserved 9095 visas”, is it possible to request embassy to precede my wife visa… ! Advise me on this.
Thanks Brit
November 13, 2020 at 19:02
Maybe, but it is too soon to know.
November 5, 2020 at 15:33
Hello sir
should i worry about this little shadow at one side of my face?
https://ibb.co/YQ2T5D8
I won dv2021
Could this shadow cause any problem at my interview?
Best regards
November 6, 2020 at 21:02
I can’t check individual photos. But please read the instructions and use some judgement.
November 5, 2020 at 16:07
Hi BritSimon
Does one need to list children as derivatives if the are older than 21?
Thanks,
Shay
November 6, 2020 at 21:06
Not on the DV lottery entry, no – but you do list them on the DS260 if you are a winner. Being specific helps me answer more easily.
November 5, 2020 at 17:13
Is there a chance they will start interviews in January if Biden wins?
Would it be too late to submit ds260 in January? My CN is EU2021
November 6, 2020 at 21:07
1. Biden winning does not affect interviews in January.
2. No – January is not too late. Your number is meaningless – as you did not give your number – that is the year.
November 7, 2020 at 05:16
It was 19k. I typed to fast and got it incorrectly, and then my correction probably got caught up in anti-spam filter. Sorry!
November 5, 2020 at 17:34
Hi,
DV2021AS10K I have collected all the documents. I haven’t received documents email yet. Should contact KCC or should I just send it, or wait?
November 6, 2020 at 21:07
Wait – you have time to wait
November 5, 2020 at 18:24
Hi Brit
If Biden wins the election, do you think I have a chance to get interview? SA 28xx, dv2021. Gracious
November 6, 2020 at 21:08
Biden is going to win, but his win won’t affect South America.
November 7, 2020 at 20:05
I am only asking in terms of the number becoming current. I am not in venezuela or Cuba. I am from the Caribbean
November 7, 2020 at 20:30
You’ll have to be patient.
November 5, 2020 at 20:19
Hi, I’m having trouble in trying to fill out my application on the form DS5501. Is this the correct form
November 6, 2020 at 21:11
Yes
November 5, 2020 at 20:48
Hi Brit. Am I right in the case when Biden wins, he will cancel the proclamation ban? And annotated visa holders can travel to the US?
November 6, 2020 at 21:11
Well yes- but he won’t be president until January 20.
November 6, 2020 at 21:42
Do you think Trump can extend it beyond Jan 20, before he leaves?
November 6, 2020 at 23:48
Of course not.
November 5, 2020 at 22:01
Hello Mr. Brit Simon,
Before 1 month I summited my DV 260, for DV 2021, CN EU26xxx, around how many more weeks/months should i wait for mail back from KCC ?
I’m little bit worried is everything ok..
When collecting the documents, the photos should be newest, not those that we attach when applying the lottary ?
Thanks a lot,
November 6, 2020 at 21:13
No need to be impatient, you have a long wait before your number is ready.
You present photos at the interview. They should be recent at that point.
November 5, 2020 at 22:16
Hello Brit,
If they don‘t let me cross the border with the visa I won in the DV-Lottery, would it be possible to tell them that I want to enter as a tourist for 3 month?
I am from the Schengen Area and spend 14 days in Mexico before entering.
Thanks for your answer.
Best,
Martin
November 6, 2020 at 21:15
No – your next entry to the USA must be to activate the immigrant visa.
November 5, 2020 at 22:33
I made a mistake to send my application in DV lottery when I am sending my application I lose network I was sending another application my problem is that
Now I have two confirmation number
How to canceling one confirmation?
Thank you .
November 6, 2020 at 21:16
You can’t cancel. If you got the confirmation from the first entry, you had no reason or right to enter a second time.
November 6, 2020 at 02:48
Hi Brit, hope you are well.
I’m a DV2021 winner.
This is kind of a specific question, I’m venezuelan, to summarize this means multiple things, one of them is that our passports are hard to get.
In my case, mine expires on February 2021, I know our passports that got extended have an extra validity for the United States of 5 more years. Might sound dumb but I would like your input.
You think this will be an issue? I just submitted my documents, I’m sure they’ll know venezuelan passports have an extended expiration date.
Thanks for your time
November 6, 2020 at 21:17
You know about the extra validity – so why are you asking a question when you already know the answer?
November 6, 2020 at 03:25
Hello Mr. Simon
Could you please send me your email.
Thanks,
November 6, 2020 at 21:17
No. I answer questions here, so that others can benefit from the answers.
November 6, 2020 at 05:29
Dear Simon, when I started the process I immediately requested a police clearance certificate from Ghana where I worked for 2 years. I thought they would take long to get it to me, but I got it rapidly. This means the data of issue is the 15th of June 2020. It is only valid for 6 months, so it expires in December 2020. It cost me over $250 to get this certificate. Now I am wondering, because it is expiring soon, must I apply for another updated one, or can I use this one, since I have not been back to Ghana since it was issued (or for years for that matter).
Thanks
November 6, 2020 at 21:19
In the DV process, police certs are considered valid up to one year old. So – as long as you interview before June 2021 you should be OK.
November 6, 2020 at 05:31
Hello Brit
I am dv 2021 winner with case number eu5xxx . We have submitted our supporting documents after kcc had asked for it. It’s been seven weeks since we submitted it and no response though the case no is there December VB.
Do you have any idea whether same issue is faced by other people too?
Should I contact kcc now or wait for few more weeks
November 6, 2020 at 21:20
You just need to wait. They are not scheduling any interviews at this time. Just wait.
November 6, 2020 at 05:58
Hi, what are the chances of me being rejected because I have bipolar disorder? I am on medication and am no harm to others, nor have I ever been any harm to others. I once spent 3 weeks in a clinic in 2014 and since then have had no incidents, but have been on medication. I have been employed all my life since University in good jobs and there is no doubt I can support myself. Is there a chance my application for a green card is rejected because of my diagnosis? Has this happened before and is it common, or do they not discriminate? Thanks
November 6, 2020 at 21:22
It will be up to the physician to determine whether your condition would affect your ability to support yourself in the USA (public charge). I can’t predict that outcome.
November 6, 2020 at 10:24
Hi Brit
I applied for DV lottery my wife and me, luckily we won, she’s the principal applicant. She doesn’t want to go to the interview or US anymore, will the embassy give me the visa me alone without her?
November 6, 2020 at 21:22
No
November 6, 2020 at 11:46
Hi brits, I summited my ds 260 in august with case number af52000. I haven’t received any mail from KCC asking for my documents and I am worried . Should keep being patient or I should contact kcc for my worries brits? Also, I hope that dv 2021 cases will start in janary if Biden wins.
November 6, 2020 at 21:36
You have a fairly high number – you really just need to be patient.
November 6, 2020 at 12:10
Hello Brit, I finished both Primary section(7years) and Secondary section(6years), then I joined university for a 2 year course and acquired a diploma. Which of the highest level of education should I select on the DV lottery form? Thanks
November 6, 2020 at 21:37
Some university.
November 6, 2020 at 16:28
Hello sir few months ago Charles kuck makes a comment that he will challenge again in court about dv2020 if biden wins election??
November 6, 2020 at 21:39
Actually no – he did not say that. He has said that there would be lobbying for more DV2020 visas if Biden won, but that is political, not legal. This is all complex. Just wait and see what happens.
November 6, 2020 at 17:42
Trump MUST GO. Let there be more light on remaining Dv2020 cases
November 6, 2020 at 19:26
Hello Mr. Simon
I have a question about passport
i am married and have one child
But my wife and my child don’t have a passport what should i do?
can i unlist them or what?
thank youo very much for your help.
November 6, 2020 at 21:39
Unlist them from what???? Be clear!
November 6, 2020 at 19:50
Hello Brit,
I am applying for DV-2022. The photo I used in my own application was not that good. Can I take another photo and use it in my father’s application (where I will be a derivative), or do I have to use the same photo I used in my application?
November 6, 2020 at 21:40
Different photo is OK.
November 6, 2020 at 21:03
Good evening Brit. I photographed myself without taking the scarf off my head. is it a problem. will i be disqualified
November 6, 2020 at 23:52
What do the instructions say about that?
