Hi brit
I have one issue to be clear.
I have been interviewed in January 3 and the consular told me that you are successfuly finished your interview and your visa has been approved. Finally he gave me that yellow paper which says congratulations your visa has been approved and white paper with the date is written for visa and package pick up. But when i am checking the status it says adminstrative processing. is there anything can be changed on the decision by consular? should i write them an email? i am so worried. please say something? I now know you teached us a lot about patience but i can’t.
Thank you!

Cases often show AP for a day or two after a successful interview. If that lasts longer than a few days, it is AP.

Hi britsimon,
My quesn is after unlocking ds260 and correcting it .Will we get the new submission date in sign in page or the same old submission date in sign in page?
January 20, 2017 at 16:22
It doesn’t matter about the submission date on the confirmation. The first submission date is what matters.
January 16, 2017 at 08:48

It is a matter of standards in your country (which I don’t know).
January 16, 2017 at 11:49
Hi Mr Simon.
Here in the US embassy in Casablanca, we are having the issue of passports and documents delivery after being issued the visa. The well know company of posts “Aramex” is responsible for picking up the passports from the embassy to their office and then they inform people to come and pick up their documents, but there are so many cases that passed the interview well for more than one month but still did not got called to Aramex office to get their Passports back. We just want to know what could be the reasons for that delay of delivery?
PLZ I need your answer
January 16, 2017 at 16:36
I don’t know.

Hi Brit Simon, want to find out what would be acceptable forms of proof of work experience. I have been in the same job for the past 13 years (IT) but never signed a formal employment contract when I started with the company, what else can I use to prove my employment history?
Thanks
January 16, 2017 at 16:29
Letter from HR/management.
Payslips
CV/Resume
January 17, 2017 at 06:43
Thanks Brit, that I can arrange. Another question thou, I do software development over the web for companies in different countries (I live in South Africa), main income source being the UK. Would it be acceptable as proof that I can sustain my family and not be a burden on the state if I still do development work for overseas companies and am then paid from there to the US (obviously then paying taxes in the US). We’re a family of 5, according to I864P I would need at least $35,000, my income from the UK would just cover that, until I find employment in the US. Do you foresee problems with my situation. Thanks in advance
January 17, 2017 at 15:13
I don’t know if they will accept that as an income source. The best idea would be to obtain an I-134.
January 16, 2017 at 16:02
Hello. 2 quick questions:
A). I have 10 years of basic school (I can document it), I have 2 years of upper secondary education (I cannot document it, lost the certificate), and I have both a Bachelor and Master degree (totalling 6 years), both of which I can document. Do I need to worry about the missing upper secondary certificate ?
B) If successful they will issue a visa into the passport. The actual ‘green card’ comes later. It is recommended to check this visa for errors. What exactly is the key to look for apart from the obvious spelling mistakes ? Does a pre-green visa have a special name/number which indicate ‘green card’ to the officers in the airport ?
Thanks for al lthe great advice and support on this site.
January 16, 2017 at 16:23
A. Usually the CO would approve that case.
B. Spelling mistakes.
January 16, 2017 at 16:15

Hi Brit,
I received my Visa in Dec…and I am planning to go to US in the first week of May..the problem is my passport expires in first week of October so about 5 months from my date of travel…so will this be an issue? or should I renew my passport before travelling?
January 16, 2017 at 17:01
That would be wise. Take old and new passports on the trip.
January 16, 2017 at 17:14
Dear Brit in our country we don’t use this surname and given name
Example in my educational documents it is written as berhan Gebremariam Gebrehawaryat
And in my country theere is no surname and given name in the passport ( but i will not use passport since I am presently refuge in other country so I am going to use travel document)

The DV visa ONLY covers entry to the USA. If you need a transit visa you have to contact that country.
January 17, 2017 at 03:34
Hi Brit,
I was just wondering if you knew when the next bulletin will be released (March 2017) – I was expecting it to be on Jan 15th?
When it is released the new numbers that become current can expect an interview in April correct?
Thank-you!!
Elle
January 17, 2017 at 04:00
THe VB for this month has been published. THe one for April interviews will be released by Feb 15. Same as every month.
Cases that are current AND DS260 is process can expect interviews.
January 17, 2017 at 09:29
HI MR Simon,
DV winner from Egypt
1) Ratification ( endorsement ) of documents ( like birth certificate, marriage certificate, divorce certificate, and ….) from the ministry of foreign affairs is required?
2) for previous marriage, only divorce certificate is required ? or the previous marriage certificate also is required ?
3) are (eyeglasses) affect anything at the medical examination or at the interview ?
4) The submit of high school certificate ( for the principal applicant ) is required, for the spouse, is it required to submit it ? or can I submit only the university certificate?
Thank you
January 17, 2017 at 10:03
MR Simon,
What are the size and specifications required for the medical examination?
January 17, 2017 at 10:18
MR Simon,
Correction for the above question
What are the size and specifications of the photos required for the medical examination?
January 17, 2017 at 15:03
Use the American passport size – same as the entry.
January 17, 2017 at 15:07
1. Check the embassy specific instructions
2. JUst divorce cert
3. No
4. Just principal
January 17, 2017 at 14:16

January 17, 2017 at 17:12
Hello!
Our interview is comming closer, 15 of feb.
I wonder, should I follow the STK- Stockholm. US embassy guidlines for wich documents to bring, I got a pdf check-list to see what needs to be done and what needs to be brought there.
Or should I follow the general one https://travel.state.gov/content/visas/en/immigrate/diversity-visa/interview/prepare-for-the-interview.html ?
Kind regards
PA
January 17, 2017 at 17:36
Check both checklists and make sure you have everything from the combined lists.
January 17, 2017 at 17:47
Hi Brit,
I filled my ds260 on October 3 2016. Will I be listed for Feb or March interview.
January 17, 2017 at 18:42
Probably April, depending on your case number.
January 17, 2017 at 18:15
Hi Brit,
My sponsor is self-employed so what supporting documents do I need for the AOS
Thank you
January 17, 2017 at 18:42
1040 tax return
January 17, 2017 at 19:46
Hi Simon,
I made a small mistake on my mother’s place of birth (I put Amant in DS-260 and it should be Amand). I have my interview tomorrow and I am very worried. Would this lead to denial ? When should I highlight it ? When I give my papers or directly to the CO ? Thank you
January 17, 2017 at 20:04
It is trivial. Don’t worry about it.
January 17, 2017 at 20:07
Dear Simon. My case number for dv2017 eu16xxx will be current in February. The instruction says that I can apply for green card only the moment the number becomes current however am I supposed to sent my i485 form with all the docs now? (I’ll be doing adjustment of status as I’m in US on f1 visa). What actually the steps I need to do now and when am I supposed to schedule an interview? Thanks in advance
January 17, 2017 at 21:12
You could already have filed under the early filing policy.
To learn about the process I suggest you study the link below, in particular the spreadsheet linked from the first page in that thread.
http://forums.immigration.com/threads/dv-2017-aos-only.331328/
January 18, 2017 at 17:38
Thanks that helps a lot. Just one clarification: I have been on f1 legally here without violating my status so I assumed that I can do AOS. Now that the instructions say that once the USCIS determine that I am eligible for AOS then I can pay the fee. The instructions doesn’t say how do I actually check my eligibility? Do I need to call them and ask? Thanks a lot
January 18, 2017 at 20:56
No one will tell you that you are eligible. You are eligible if you haven’t violated your status. Use the immigration forum thread to learn more and post questions there.
January 17, 2017 at 20:17
Dear Simon,
Thanks for making this awesome Blog!
Well unfortunately I found out that I am selected for DVlottery 2017 quite late! I send my 260 form in mid October.
My case number is AS27xx (I am from Iran)
I was wondering can you tell me when would be my interview ?! I am a bit worried.
Many Thanks
January 17, 2017 at 21:09
Probably April interview.
As you are from Iran you are likely to be put on AP for extended background checks. Those checks can take around 5 months, so *IF* you are AP you starting in April you might just have time to complete the AP checks. This risk is increased if you have served in the Iranian military or Government.
January 21, 2017 at 19:39
Hi Simon,
I just checked my printed 260 form and I noticed I made a mistake!!
Q: Have you lived anywhere other than this address since the age of sixteen?
I answered No! Because I thought it means other address in my country! but I lived in Manchester for 1 and half year for my Master degree!
What should I do now?! should I unlock my form and add my England address as well? 🙁
(by the way I am female and do not have military or anything)
Many Thanks.
January 21, 2017 at 22:00
Yes you should unlock. That is important information, and you do not want to give an impression you are hiding something.
January 17, 2017 at 20:51
Dear Simon,
I would like to get your opinion on this.
While filling education information on the DS260 , I have put information about the middle school I had attented and the diploma I received at the end of middle school.
As I have declared this Diploma on the DS260, may the consular officer require to see it ?
I have it with me but along with the transcrip, this is 3 pages and at least 150 USD of translation as all my doc are in french and Rio consulate requires professional certified translation.
Thank you.
January 17, 2017 at 21:06
To save the $150 you could risk them not asking to see that. If they do ask for it you will be placed on AP until you provide the translations.
January 18, 2017 at 00:32
Hi,
I just want to know the process after interview.. Because i couldn’t provide my birth certifiacte while interviewing. I have send them yesterday, my original birth certificate and copy of it and a yellow paper. So, what will be the next process? And how long does it take? I was interviewed on 10/01/2017.
January 18, 2017 at 00:41
I assume you mean January 10th was your interview. In that case they might process your case within a week or two, since the case will not be “open” over a month end. Now all you can do is wait. Patience is key.
January 18, 2017 at 05:55
Hi Brit;following my request to unlock my DS260 Form,I received this yesterday:
“ Your case number is now current for interview processing. Once the interview date has been scheduled, you will receive notification via email to check http://www.dvlottery.state.gov. If you need to make changes to your DS-260 you should contact the consular section where you will be interviewed, or bring the information about your changes to your interview appointment. Because your case is ready to be scheduled, KCC can no longer unlock your application”
So my question is:the 2NL will be this month or the next?
January 18, 2017 at 06:08
March.
https://britsimonsays.com/communicating-kcc/
January 18, 2017 at 06:29
So the interview will be :April or May
January 18, 2017 at 06:35
March INTERVIEW. Read the link I gave you.
January 18, 2017 at 08:51
Thank you for your response,I have just read it,but my only concern is the fact that I haven’t mentione my military service in Ds260 Form because I was thinking that the question was for military career and this is why I have requested unlock. If I bring my Military Service Card on the interview ,will be a negative effect on interview ?thank you
N.B:my wife is the principal applicant.
January 18, 2017 at 15:16
If you were a principal this would be a serious omission! As a derivative it might be ignored. Take the card and anything else the instructions detail regarding your military service to the interview. Produce it if asked.
January 18, 2017 at 06:29
Hello Brit,
I have a question regarding to EDV interview,
My case number is below 3000 form Nepal, My Interview program is scheduled in end of the Jan, 2017, we have passed the medical checkup (husband+wife+a new born baby) ,
now problem is multiple entry of primary applicant. (husband ia a winner of lottery). My wife is also submit my information, & i was also submitted my information, my 2nl was already came. we are confusing should we failed in itnerview??
January 18, 2017 at 06:37
You mean you entered one time each – or you entered and she entered FOR YOU. In the latter case you are likely to be disqualified.
January 18, 2017 at 07:45
Yes, we both submitted my name in same day. How do they know of multiple entries, If we will sure disqualify, we don’t give interview for saving money. is it good ?? Please advise me.
January 18, 2017 at 15:25
So, if you were both truthful, the names will match, the addresses will match, each one of you would have listed the other as a spouse derivative. The photos will be similar/identical. I’m surprised you did not get disqualified before notification. The DS260 is cross referenced against their database including previous entries. So I am sure you will be disqualified at interview.
January 18, 2017 at 09:20
Hi brit,,please what Bejnu mean by multiple entry of primary applicant. Did he mean that is illicit when I have played me and my wife in Dv lottery and one of us has win ?I’m a bit suspicious so don’t bother.
Thank you.
January 18, 2017 at 15:12
It is normal for a husband and wife to both enter.
January 18, 2017 at 08:40
Hi Brit,
As you have predicted the bulletin numbers are slowing down and when compered to DV 2016 same period. in 2016 AF case #s were current on July’s bulletin. Do you think it also happen on 2017?
Thanks
January 18, 2017 at 15:17
I have no idea. That is months away.
January 18, 2017 at 11:25
Hi Brit
If our interview would be to AP, so, how many update must be change our AP statue to visa approv?
January 18, 2017 at 15:09
Forget “counting” the updates. That is pointless, there is no “number of updates” that means AP is over.
January 18, 2017 at 13:21
Hi Simon,
I am confused, I got the DV visa. I have to travel for activation before 27/03 but I am starting to think in moving straight away. However, the I-151 (endorsement visa) is valid to get a job? some blogs state that the employer may or may not offer the job if you do not have the plastic. Should I wait then until I get the plastic?
I know the social security is faster (2 weeks or so) but plastic green card from 3 to 6 months.
Thanks in advance!
Lis
January 18, 2017 at 15:08
The plastic GC isn’t started until you enter, so there is no point delaying for that. You are able to take a job immediately. The SSN is what employers worry about but the endorsed visa is proof of LPR status.
January 18, 2017 at 14:02
Hello.
Concerning education the interview instructions state ‘bring original and a copy’. I have got a transcript (in English) of my masters degree on the business school’s letterhead with their stamp. I wonder if this is enough to qualify as ‘original’ ? For my marriage and birth certificate I have in addition made apostile on both in the foreign ministry, but this is not possible for a letter from an university.
Thanks
January 18, 2017 at 15:05
They tell you to bring copies because they need to keep something and will not return those documents. The transcript may be enough. As for the other documents make your best efforts to prepare, and hopefully that will be accepted.
January 18, 2017 at 16:05

January 18, 2017 at 20:47
Hi Mr Simon

January 18, 2017 at 20:57

January 18, 2017 at 21:14
thank you Mr Simon
January 18, 2017 at 21:12

Dear Brit really
thank you for valuable help
January 18, 2017 at 21:41
1. Print the 2NL.
2. Whatever the physician deems needed.
3. You have to satisfy them that you won’t become a public charge (needing public assistance). So that can be through your own resources, or resources from a sponsor/host.
4. That is OK, BUT it would be better if it did not specify a time limit.
5. The sponsor sounds OK.
6. See 5 and 4. You only have one sponsor.
January 18, 2017 at 22:58
thank you so much dear brit for your quick response you are so nice for all of us God bless you
i have some more question
Q1, for answer Q4 on the affidavit support form it says if you intended to furnish room and board for how long ? how can he leave the specify time limit ? and is his bank statement enough for all of us?
Q2. my Sponsor filled out , signed the form and attached on my E-mail is that enough to print the form from my e-mail and bring it on the interview ? or they will ask me the original form ?
Q3. is there any other thing which i have to bring on the interview date from my sponsor ? because as i have said i have no any liquid or solid assets?
Q4, Brit from your experience dv winners like me(with 5 families )in what case they will denied on the interview ?
January 18, 2017 at 23:28
1. Say something like “whatever financial assistance is needed for as long as that assistance is needed”. The income formula is here. britsimonsays.com/all-about-public-charge-affidavit-of-support-i-134/
2. Original by mail
3. Along with the form itself the sponsor should provide W2/1040/Payslips and Photo ID.
4. If people have not lied, have followed simple instructions and meet the requirements it is hard to get refused.
January 19, 2017 at 02:56
Hi Brit. While reading your blog i noticed your comments concerning the multiple entry. My wife is 2017 winner from EU. We got married after the results were published. There is a company in our country operating in migration services area. They have our details from previous years(only photos and maritial status are different)and may have entered another application for both of us too,but we cant be sure.So according to what you have said,if there was double entry,we would be disqualified before the results are issued? Thanks in advance.
January 19, 2017 at 03:30
Yes. And again, if you were not disqualified in the first draw there is significant risk that they “connect” the cases and disqualify you during the interview.
January 19, 2017 at 07:30
Thank you for your respond. We checked through the agency, there was no double submission for my wife (principle applicant), but they submitted one for me.Now the question, is there any risk for me (as a derivative) to have any problems during the interview?
Thanks in advance.
January 19, 2017 at 07:39
Possibly.
January 19, 2017 at 08:45
Hello. Just to be sure: A husband can take part in the green card lottery and should add his wife/children as derivatives. And the wife can take part in the green card lottery and should add her husband/children as derivatives. Or is only 1 lottery entry per family allowed ? In my case both my wife and myself tried our luck in the lottery. Thanks
January 19, 2017 at 14:37
One entry EACH as you describe. NOT one per family.
January 19, 2017 at 08:34
Hi Mr.Brit
I have a brother living in Switzerland and having good income.
How can I show CO that my brother can help me financially?
January 19, 2017 at 14:36
You can’t. A sponsor should be a USA resident.
January 19, 2017 at 09:21
Hello mr brit,ds submitted on september, case number AF**89** when do you thing I can receive the 2NL and when the interview can be according to your experience please .
January 19, 2017 at 14:39
Maybe March or perhaps April.
January 19, 2017 at 10:49
hi Brit.. I am Turkish but i live in Ethiopia. I won dv in Eth. so, my process will be in Addis Ababa. my case no is 2017EU000173XX. as you see it is wirtten EU. In my country-Turkey- process is different than Eth. for example, my friends who is dv winner they have to prove $15.000 in their accounts for each person or kind of estate. but in Addis Ababa US embassy doesnt say anything about it. Every case has to prove financial ability in some way. In Ethiopia they will typically accept the host system but as you are foreign they may well ask for financial proof. Read this https://britsimonsays.com/all-about-public-charge-affidavit-of-support-i-134/

Hi Brit,
I did my interview for DV 2017 on the 18th . During the interview the consular suggested that I conduct a DNA testing for one of my 2 kids to confirm that I am their mother. I am a single mother to be precise. At the end of the interview the consular gave me a 221g letter indicating that they need more documents on my qualifications. I have already sent the documents as per the instructions. But the DNA is not stated on the letter. Should I do the DNA test or not? and if yes will the test be conducted on both of my kids or on just one as she suggested. Thanks.

I wasn’t at the interview so I cannot tell you what to do. In my experience they do not “suggest” you get DNA. If they asked for it, I would consider it a requirement. Your should have clarified this precisely with the CO.

Hi Simon,
Today i had my interview. The consular officer just ask 2 3 questions. And said Congratulations. Ask to raise our right hand. And he said from our side all the documents are clear. Then he gave us a yellow paper by ticking ( no further action is currently required on your part.) And he said still embassy has not receive my higher school certificate once they received they will issue the visa withing two three weeks. Because in our country embassy have to collect the certificate once we submit the chit from the education department.
My questions is the yellow color paper saying we are presently unable to issue a visa under section 221(g). Is it normal?
Where i can check the status ? Is it the ceac site?
January 19, 2017 at 14:47
Yes 221(g) is normal (that is AP). CEAC status might be updated, but it might not.

Explanation of what NVC means can be found at the link below.
Your late submission means a delayed interview. Maybe April or May.

I have to be honest, I am devastated and extremely worried about my case number. the DV is a very tiring process. considering the CEAC data, I doubt my case AS78** will not go current. just to let u know simon, I am not from Nepal. any thoughts about my case?
January 19, 2017 at 20:36
It’s tiring because you are obsessing about something you have no control over. Try to think about something else for some months. I cannot predict what will happen, although I have said the cases most at risk are Nepal and SA region.

Hello sir
I arrived to USA GA last Saturday and I am waiting for my green card and SSN so question is this
How long it’s takes to receive my SSN number ?
Should I go to the local SSN office to apply for ssn?
Or I should wait ? Coz in form DS 260 I applied for SSN before
Waiting for your good answer
Tanx alot

A brand new SSn usually takes 2 to 3 weeks. You can go to the SSA office if you want.

Hello Brit,
I play this gone dv(2018), and I mistakenly choosed “High School no degree” in the education level section. I graduated from high school since 2013 with a diploma, do I still have a chance of adjusting my mistake if I get selected?
I am told that I was to choose high school degree.
January 20, 2017 at 18:35
It doesn’t matter. Just wait and see if you are selected.

Thanks ??

(Your visa case is currently undergoing necessary administrative processing. This processing can take several weeks. Please follow any instructions provided by the Consular Officer at the time of your interview. If further information is needed, you will be contacted. If your visa application is approved, it will be processed and mailed/available within two business days…..)
Last week my AP was the same above paragraph. Yesterday changed it to (Your…….Mailed or available ….)
But today changed to the first format again.
What’s happen to my case number!!!!?
What’s the difference between two Position of case update?
Thanks again for your kindness
January 20, 2017 at 18:33
Cases being approved often show AP for a day or two before finally showing issued.
Just wait a few days.

Hi.
My case for F2A visa was approved from uscis in July. But NVC sent me letter saying that visa is ineligible due to numerical limitation.
Even in BV the date for filing application hasn’t been moved forward since July. It’s still 22 Nov 2015. My priority date is 26 Jan 2016. Is there any problem in my side or I just have to wait for NVC to contact me? Is it taking too long time for NVC to process. And BV hasn’t moved forward for months? Is election a factor or because of Trump presidency?
Should I expect like 1 more year for my wife to get visa??
Thank you so much!

I don’t advise on cases other than DV lottery.
