Hi mr. Brits, I am winner of dv lottery 2017, but I have one mistake in my last name one more letter. Is it will be dangerous for me in the interview?
February 25, 2017 at 17:20
As long as you corrected the mistake in the DS260, no.
February 25, 2017 at 17:25
thank you
February 25, 2017 at 17:28
Hi Brit, hope everything is going right,
I have some questions related to changing a passport
On the picture of my passport I saw some thing with which I am not comfortable. was in a hurry, I did not get my hair shaved properly and that may not be okay in the eyes of the CO.
Is it good to change the passport, or how is that? If I changed the passport, should I take both passports to the interview? Overall how do you see it?
I need your advice, please?
Thanks a lot…
February 25, 2017 at 17:42
You are probably stressing over nothing, but if you want to change the passport you can and just take both old and new to the interview.
February 25, 2017 at 17:49
dear simon, dont you think the delay in 2NL is related to the EO that trump is going to announce sign next week (according media)? I doubt KCC is waiting for the order then they will release the 2NL. what do you think?
February 25, 2017 at 17:52
There have been other times when the 2NLs are issued late ion the month. It’s not a problem.
February 25, 2017 at 18:22
Dear Brit,
I am from Liberia and I am going to ask on behalf of my wife. She got married when she was underage and won DV Lottery with me as a couple with she as a principal applicant. Now she’s 18yrs plus three months older. We got married in July 2015 when I myself was 21. Will there be a problem at the time of our interview because of her age when she played?
February 25, 2017 at 18:25
It depends whether the marriage was considered legal in the place where the marriage was performed. If it was legal, then no problem.
February 25, 2017 at 20:47
Hi Brit. I completed my applicationsn and forwarded them to KCC but its taking too long to be scheduled. Why is that. I case number is below 500 and submitted more than three months ago.
February 25, 2017 at 21:09
It is taking a long time because YOU delayed submitting your DS260. You delayed your case, so don’t be impatient.
February 26, 2017 at 02:30
Dear Simon,
I am a dv lottery winner and travelled to USA via Abudhabi airport on Oct 2016. As soon as I arrived, I paid for my green card. But even after 4 months of arrival, I didn’t get green card. Therefore, I contacted USCIS immigration officer when he told that I need to do biometrics. I never knew that I had to do biometrics after the arrival in US. my Poe was abudhabi and I thought everything was done there. My biometrics appointment has been rescheduled. Does it mean that I have to go through interview again? Or is it just the process for the record?
Thank you
February 26, 2017 at 02:51
It won’t be an interview. Just a quick appointment.
February 26, 2017 at 05:27
Hello Brit sir
I had interview on feb 21. am from nepal. my visa was approved and a paper saying visa approved was given to me. my status was once updated and its still a.p.. but the friends who had interview on same day got issued. so is it normal, how long generally this type of a.p. can last?
Thank you sir…
February 26, 2017 at 16:07
Often cases show AP for a day or two after a successful interview. If that carries on beyond that time, then it might be real AP. Wait a few days.
February 26, 2017 at 18:05
In Nepal … Last Friday to next Monday may be US EMBASSY not open(NEPAL’S AND USA’S HOLIDAY) .. may b Tuesday his status will be change
February 26, 2017 at 03:02
EI have a question:
Are f2a immigrant applicants in the same category of visa seekers with DV applicants?
I ask because the visa bulletin does not seem to be moving. It has been stagnant at 22nd Nov 2015. I do not know? Are DV applicants being interviewed?
And are F2A applicants currently being interviewed? Wondering why the last date in the bulletin is 11/25/15 for about/over half a year.
February 26, 2017 at 16:08
I only advise on DV cases.
February 26, 2017 at 07:04
Case No: 2017AF90XX
Hi Britsimon,
I First Submitted Our DS 260 On 22nd Sept 2016 And Unlocked The DS 260 On October 26th And Resubmitted On Febuary 23rd 2017. I follow your blog daily and per the VB last month, late September submissions will receive 2NL this February for April Interview.
When should we now expect our 2NL for interview?
February 26, 2017 at 16:01
Probably in the next few days.
February 26, 2017 at 16:02
I don’t know whether they would have started processing during that period where it was unlocked. So – wait and see.
February 26, 2017 at 08:28
Dear Brit, while medical examination before the interview there is X-Ray and my wife is pregnant and it is not advisible for her to do X-ray,what do you think if they can allow us not to take X-ray?
February 26, 2017 at 15:59
She must have the xray, but they use a shield for the baby.
February 26, 2017 at 09:15
Hi Brit I am rizana from srilanka… My interview is on march 9 th ….. The problem is I worked in Qatar from 2014-2016….. When I came back to srilanka I took my police report …. But it expired on last month ….. Are they accept it…..
February 26, 2017 at 15:58
Yes, normally. As long as you have not been back to that country prior to the interview.
February 26, 2017 at 15:00
I had my visa interview at the U.S Embassy on the 10th of October, 2016 after 139 days my status is still pending. I have not any update since 11 October. why this process takes long??after trumps order the embassy doesn’t clear any one for 7 countries?
February 26, 2017 at 15:56
Are you from Iran? Iranians often have AP lasting around 5 or 6 months. The length of AP for any case cannot be guessed.
February 26, 2017 at 15:56
Are you from Iran? Iranians often have AP lasting around 5 or 6 months. The length of AP for any case cannot be guessed.
February 26, 2017 at 16:42
yes I’m from iran but I know any body from iran have not cleared after trumps order!!what are they doing? Im single girl (28 years old) with no job experience and no sensitive major! I’m an architect is it hard to clear some case such as me?
February 26, 2017 at 16:56
It is hard because the government of Iran makes it hard. For whatever reaon it was, you were placed on AP. That will take time. You simply have to be patient and be thankful your AP process started early enough to get cleared before the end of the year.
February 26, 2017 at 17:00
By the way, the timelines I am quoting are nothing to do with Trump. This timeline of AP for Iranians has been that way for years. However, there is significant risk that Trump will make things even harder for Iranians so be calm and patient, and hope he does’t make things worse.
February 26, 2017 at 17:54
thank you dear britSimon. pray for Iranian people. the government of Iran annoyed us I hope our AP will be finished and we can live in peace in US .pray for us please
February 26, 2017 at 18:08
Why this month to delayed 2nd letter any Idea? In last months 2nl has been issued in 15-25 but this month no updated ??
February 26, 2017 at 18:11
It has been later than this. But relax!
February 28, 2017 at 05:40
Hey Nisha..Are you expecting the 2nd letter this month? Good luck ahead.. I have my interview scheduled for March 23rd..
February 26, 2017 at 18:49
Good morning, Mr. Britt, thank you so much for all the support and patience you have for all of your followers! I am the winner of DV Lottery 2017 and I am applying for AOS. In January 2017 I completed and sent ds260 and recently received the confirmation of kcc. My case is 2017SA11xx. I just have to wait until my number is active to go to the appointment with my personal documents? I have to bring medical exams to the interview? My number is safe? I wrote you before but I can’t see my message I don’t know if I am doing the way that I’m writing in your blog!!! Thank you very much
February 26, 2017 at 23:27
Have you checked the immigration.com AOS thread? All the information you need is there.
February 26, 2017 at 21:01
Hi Simon
Thank you for your great work, I am from Venezuela, my wife won the 2017 lottery, we found out late because we had problems with verification codes. We already sent the DS-260 to the KCC on February 10th. The case number is: 2017SA000010XX .. Based on your experience, when should we be notified of the appointment for the embassy?
February 26, 2017 at 23:20
2 or 3 months from now.
February 26, 2017 at 21:09

February 27, 2017 at 07:26
Hi Simon,
My number is 2017AF41XXX and I submitted in June. When do I expect my 2NL?
February 27, 2017 at 16:41
Once your number is current. I don’t have a prediction for that.
February 27, 2017 at 00:42
Thank you! I’ll check it but is not from UsCIS right? That link is about law company
February 27, 2017 at 00:46
This thread below. The first post on that thread has a link to a spreadsheet with full instructions on the AOS process including the I-485 package. That thread is your bible.

February 27, 2017 at 03:25
hello Brit. i completed my sister dv application on the 3 january, 2017 my sister is single with no child but i checked today and saw the add applicant is active. and this was written.
‘Before we can process your Diversity Visa application, each applicant in your case must complete Form DS-260, the Online Immigrant Visa and Alien Registration Application. To access the online form, click on the link to the right of an applicant’s name below, under the “IV Application” heading.
If a person in your family is not listed below, click the “Add Applicant” button to add him or her. Derivative applicants for the DV program include spouses or children under the age of 21 who meet the requirements of U.S. immigration law. Filling out an application does not guarantee that an individual will qualify as a derivative in your case. This can only be decided by a consular officer at your visa interview.
February 27, 2017 at 05:41
So all she needs to do is NOT add someone. Simple.
February 27, 2017 at 07:51

Hi Brits 2nds April interview when check e-mail
February 27, 2017 at 13:32
Hi, your interview is on April 2? Did you get an email from KCC? if yes, when did you get it?
February 27, 2017 at 16:37
You misunderstand.
February 27, 2017 at 16:40
2NLs will go out today or tomorrow.
February 27, 2017 at 09:34
Hello Simon,
My CN is EU28XXX – according to the pace of VB this year, I’m estimating to go current 2-3 VBs from now. So the question is, my wife is getting her new passport in a couple of days. The previous passport we used for the DS-260 contained her maiden name, but we listed her with married name anyway – so the only thing to change in the form right now is passport details. Do you think it’s feasible to unlock now and update passport number only, or should we just stay put and bring both documents to the interview?
Thanks.
February 27, 2017 at 16:38
I would unlock, but either way will work.
February 27, 2017 at 17:49
Thanks!
February 27, 2017 at 16:35
How and where do you check the status of your DV case online? When I access with my number and password that I initially got when I applied, I still get the letter that notifies me that I was selected, dated May 3 2016. Thanks
February 27, 2017 at 16:43
So that means you have not been scheduled yet. That is all you can check online in terms of your status at this point. Read this.

February 27, 2017 at 18:45
Hi Mr. Simon. first let me thank you for all your help thru my DV case.
i have a question regarding our green cards, i have paid all the 5 family members fees and received 4 green cards last week where my greed card is missing although I am the main applicant.
Is it common for main applicants or i should contact USCIS for update as it was once dv case i was expecting to receive all once and mine first because i am main applicant.
I entered US on 10th of Jan-17 and paid the fees on 31st of Jan
THanks
February 27, 2017 at 18:56
It normally takes much longer than that to get the cards, so wait a few weeks and see if yours arrives. If not, call USCIS – but normally they say to wait 3 months at least.
February 27, 2017 at 21:57
Hi brit
I am 2017 lottery winner. And I submitted the ds260 and then I unlocked it for some ammendments and I submitted it again in October 2016. How can I get sure that my ds260 has been submitted.

If it says completed, its submitted.

February 28, 2017 at 17:01
Next VB Probably Tomorrow? Or last vb ‘s Interview date ? I m little confused please clear. In last years any vb’s 2nd letter delayed? Like this?
February 28, 2017 at 17:33

February 28, 2017 at 05:46
Hi Brit,
What is the maximum period a person can stay out of US, after the first entry? (Green Card has been already received)
February 28, 2017 at 14:45

February 28, 2017 at 07:13
Hi simon,
Is march VB for may interview will be released probably tomorrow?I’m just excepting may interview
thanks
February 28, 2017 at 14:44
Probably.
February 28, 2017 at 08:07
Hello brit!!
I have my appointment scheduled in upcoming month and the problem is my sponsor’s address has been changed then by the ones that I submitted in ds 260
Should i need to unlock ds 260 or i just inform them at the time of interview?
February 28, 2017 at 14:41
At interview.
February 28, 2017 at 10:00
Dear Mr. Simon,
Hope you’re doing well. Our case No is AS62XX and DS260s were submitted in mid-June 2016 and are expecting interviews by May/June. The US address we put on DS260s for Green Card delivery has changed as my friend has changed his residence. Do we have to unlock DS260 and change it, or else, can we inform the CO by a letter at the interview and change it there. Will unlocking at this time cause any delay of interviews as our applications would most likely have been processed by now. Thanks for your advice.
February 28, 2017 at 12:59
Hey sisira!
Are you also from Nepal?, I am also dv winner CN AS60** If u like to then we can help a littel to each other. My Email :[email protected]
February 28, 2017 at 14:39
Unlocking won’t cause delay. You can change at the interview, but it would be better to change now, as it is one less thing to think about.
February 28, 2017 at 12:24
Brit,
I am in a bit of a dilemma – my family is not from the seven countries listed in the ban however we are Muslim and have visited Iran, Iraq and Saudi Arabia. I’ve been hearing stories about people being harassed and questioned about their faith and travel histories and was considering getting new passports for us all. Do you think this will help?
February 28, 2017 at 14:36
No, it would appear suspicious.
February 28, 2017 at 13:12
Hi Brit,my interview is on Tuesday 7th..i have one question..does the spouse have to carry his education documents if he is not the principal applicant?
February 28, 2017 at 14:35
No
February 28, 2017 at 13:24
Hello Mr.Brit,
I have two questions:
1. If my husband ( as a principal aplicant ) enters the USA by himself for a first time, does he has to come back for me and our children at our first entry, or we can enter without him ( I’m asking because of the envelope everyone gets in ambassies when they are given visas ) ?
2. Where should we check at Immigrations? At the first (transit ) airport in US we’ll land or at our final destination?
Thank You in advance for Your answer.
Best Regards
February 28, 2017 at 14:35
1. You can enter after him (i.e. without him).
2. At the first USA airport. They won’t let you enter the country without that being done.
February 28, 2017 at 15:32
Hello Brit,
We are tired of predicting when the 2nl will be out for april interview.
Habe you got any suggestion of what is going on or any news about it.
Thank you.

Hi Simon,
I hope you are very well. Simon I already entered US and immigration officer stamped on my passports and also gave us a Welcome paper.
My questions is :
1. Can I register my son to school if my green card and Ssn not yet arrived?
2. Which address does green card will send to as at the Ds form I put my uncle old address and when I arrived at the airport I wrote on the CBP for I put new address of my uncle as this the address where I am going to live?
3. Can I make driving license if my everything not yet arrived or I have to wait?
Thanks
March 1, 2017 at 14:21
1. Yes
2. The address you updated at the airport.
3. Yes, although that depends on the local DMV.
March 1, 2017 at 20:12
Hi Simon,
during I complete DS-260 application and when I enter my date of birth on passport to the system then said: please enter correct date of birth and I think their is month error during DV-entry and on passport month was January but when I replace January to September randomly then directly login to the next phase. After that I re-correct my passport to September and fill out the application by using new passport and it says completed. If so,
1. Is DS-260 application have fake regarding my process?
2. Is this circumstance affect my case?
thanks
March 1, 2017 at 21:31
I don’t understand what happened.
March 1, 2017 at 22:42
Hello Simon,
Thanks for all the information! Is it possible to look at my DS260 form? I am having doubts about the address I wrote in there. I don’t want to unlock it but review it to check everything I wrote down is correct.
Thank you!
March 2, 2017 at 09:04
You can view it without unlocking.
March 1, 2017 at 23:24

March 2, 2017 at 13:48
Hello Brit,
I attended my dv visa interview today and the interviewer asked if my secondary certificate was legible equivalent to US 12th grade.. I said it is eligible as per our education system, then after the interview, i was given a letter under section 221(g) pending police certificate from Kenya and mandatory administrative processing. What are my chances for visa approval. Is it final refusal or there is a for additional documents? Thanks in advance.
March 2, 2017 at 16:05
It is AP while they check your education. If your education meets the requirements, you should be approved.
March 2, 2017 at 19:27
That means i shouldn’t worry about it much.. Because Secondary education is equivalent to what they asked for as per my country education system. Or maybe they need more supportive documents? Just wondering what will happen because they didn’t ask me for anything more. They returned other documents including my passport but retained my secondary school certificate. Finally told me to submit country Police certificate once it’s ready. Any suggestions on that plz..
Thanks..
March 2, 2017 at 20:14
So you also did not submit the police cert. Again, that would have caused AP. You should have had that ready for the interview. No suggestions other than “patience”.
March 5, 2017 at 07:56
Is it necessary to submit my copy
Of my primary education even after the interview? Just to add more supportive info on my education background.. Or they will ask for original document. It’s because i left the original at my home country since i never used it. I use my secondary certificate mostly when applying for jobs that’s why.. Please let me know the correct way i can submit it even if it’s a scanned copy if possible.. Just need to be sure first..
March 5, 2017 at 14:42
They don’t normally ask for primary education proof.
March 2, 2017 at 16:27

March 2, 2017 at 18:30
Contact the embassy immediately and check with them.
March 2, 2017 at 20:32
Hello Dear Simon & John, I’m also from Ethiopia & scheduled to March 8. i received the same message to John on Tuesday. I received two messages at the same time. one that states the appointment is cancelled & the other it states as my DHL registration was successful. Then I immediately followed what Simon adviced. I contacted the ladies on the embassy who give info & showed them the messages. at first after noticing the 1st message they told me to register the DHL AGAIN but after seeing the 2nd message they told me not to worry by stating that the cancellation was not for interview but for the DHL registration & to be avail myself on March 8. so this was what I got from the embassy & Dear Simon if the info was wrong I hope you will correct me if it is right John relax. Thanks.
March 2, 2017 at 20:45
That is good info, but still each person should make their own call to the embassy, just to be certain.
March 3, 2017 at 06:59
Thanks Mr Brit and solome for your advice but solome as regarding the above message there is no problem to get interview on March 8?
March 3, 2017 at 14:27
They told me to attend the interview as perscheduled & that the cancellation was for the DHL registration but not for the interview. any ways if you are in AA you just go & check as Mr. Simon said so that to be certain. You will get staffs that direct people at the gate of the embassy.

Hello Brit. Please how long does it take for your lost DV travelling package to be replaced even though I have the passport and the visa with me. I went to report at the embassy with the necessary documents and I was told that they will contact me but for two weeks now I have not heard from them. Can I do a follow up or wait for some more time. Thank you.

I don’t know.

Hello Simon,
In my wife’s DS-260 we specified that she’s been living at my home address since November 2013 – but the fact that we started living together then is undocumented (in our country we have “registration address” stamped in our local passports, however, actual residence address may not match with this stamp, so this is not an issue, I believe), and this in general is a best estimate – it’s really hard to pick an exact moment in time when her “visiting me for a couple of days” turned into actually living together.
This is good and all, however, it just crossed my mind that we got B1/B2 visas in December 2013, and I believe in the form for her visas we did not specify that she was living at my address, we put in her registration address only – so there is a mismatch between these two forms.
Do you think this can impact our processing / CO decision? Isn’t it better to unlock and change this date to some further moment in time?
Thanks.

I think you are overthinking the whole thing. Relax.

Hah, yes, I probably am 🙂
I’m unlocking her form anyway to update passport details – does it make sense to also update this?

If you want to, yes.

Hi Brit, hope all is well.
I have a question related to visa activation and leaving the country right after.
I would like to activate my visa and leave back to my country to finish a work project. I only have a week for this trip so I will not get the plastic green card in that time period. I found an article here where you say the same visa works as a re-entry visa for one year from the day I enter US so that should be ok but then another rule says I can only stay abroad up to 6 months to maintain my status. How long after my short activation trip am I allowed to stay abroad? Thank you very much!
