Hi Simon. I entered US on dv visa and got my endorsement stamp at jfk. I’m in ny and would like to visit some relatives in niagara falls. Can I travel to Canada as us permanent resident with just endorsed dv visa as a proof or do I have to wait until my green card arrives? I have a european passport which doesn’t allow me to travel to Canada without canadian visa
March 28, 2017 at 19:14
I don’t know (for sure) what the Canadian border control will do. Check with them.
March 28, 2017 at 21:13
please Mr Brit, I contacted kcc yesterday to enquire about the progress of my case, KCC replied me today with the message below. Does that mean i will get my 2NL today
Thank you for your inquiry.
Your case number is now current for interview processing. Once the interview date has been scheduled, you will receive notification via email to check http://www.dvlottery.state.gov. If you need to make changes to your DS-260 you should contact the consular section where you will be interviewed, or bring the information about your changes to your interview appointment. Because your case is ready to be scheduled, KCC can no longer unlock your application.

March 28, 2017 at 20:19
Hell BrittSimon,
I am doing CP in Uruguay and I lived in three countries, Uruguay, The Netherlands, and the United States. Do I need PCC for all three countries? And for the US do I also need an FBI check?
Thank you Simon
March 28, 2017 at 21:56
Nothing for the USA. Please read the instructions.
March 28, 2017 at 23:36
Thank you. Where can I find the excel spreadsheet with explanations about CP? I know there is one for AOS
March 29, 2017 at 02:31
No – the CP process needs no such explanations. You simply follow the clear instructions.

Hi Simon, thanks for all your help today we had our interview in Ireland and we were successful, there is one or two questions I hope you will be able to help me with.
My wife is pregnant due early July, the officer stated that if we were to wait for the baby to be born before going to America we would have to come back to be interviewed in august, but them stated that there was no available dates left in august.
He then said if we were able to go in April (while my wife can still fly) we would be issued with our visa’s.
So I was just wondering
1. Do we all have to go before the end of April as we said we would try our best.
2. Can we just go for a weekend and come back to Ireland to sort everything out?
3. Could we see if it was possible to just go after the baby is born or with this just antagonise them?
Have you ever heard of a situation like this before?
March 28, 2017 at 21:56
1. That is up to you.
2. Yes
3. Yes, the officer is not correct. IF they issue the visas for you and the Mrs, all 3 could travel after the birth. However, the visa has an expiry date (6 months after the medical) so you would have a short window of time. It is not necessary to re-interview, procedures are in place to process the baby at the airport when you go on the activation trip. However, some airlines refuse to board the baby because they don’t understand the procedures, and in that case you would have to get a travel authorization from the embassy.
Yes I have seen this before. Many times.
March 29, 2017 at 08:41
thanks a million, we are still trying to figure out our best option, if we go in April do all family members have to enter at the same time or can we arrive on seperate dates?
March 29, 2017 at 12:32
so essentially what i’m asking is
1 can myself and my wife go over in April on our own for a weekend to activate visa
2 return and take the 2 children and new baby in august for a weekend to activate there visa
3 if yes, would we all have to be back in America before April 2018
Thanks again
March 29, 2017 at 17:24
1. Yes
2. Yes (as long as the existing child has a valid visa – within the expiry)
3. Absences are easier when they are below 6 months. 6 to 12 month absences are technically OK, but tend to cause questioning at the POE (the questioning is to establish that you are treating the GC seriously, and not just a super-ESTA. Absences of 12 to 24 mionths are OK – *IF* you apply for a re-entry permit while in the USA (which takes a few weeks of waiting in the USA).
March 31, 2017 at 08:35
Hi Brit,
apologies for all the questions, we’re just trying to figure out the best way to enter the Staes, as my wife isn’t feeling like she would be up to a long flight in April, so if we all go in august with the new baby, do we just show up with the new baby (with its’s passport) or do i need to get the ok from the embassy, like medical exemption or something? i checked with aer lingus and they’re ok with newborns flying do long as we have a doctors cert to say it’s ok.
Thanks again
March 31, 2017 at 13:04
The point I made earlier was not about newborns flying. It’s about boarding the newborn without the visa. You both will have the visa but the baby won’t. THAT is what you need. Nothing to do with medical rules or anything else. If they will board the baby you will be fine. So at the arrival airport you need birth cert and passport. But to get on the plane you MIGHT need a travel auth from the US embassy.
April 4, 2017 at 11:52
Hi Brit, I just received our Passports back today with our visa on them, they seemed to have made mistake as they say the visa is valid until 01-july-2017, we did our medical on 01-march-2017 so it should be valid until the 01-september right? i have emailed them about this just wondering in your opinion will they change it or will we just have to travel before the 1st of july?
Thanks again
April 4, 2017 at 12:26
There may have been some reason for that – contact the embassy to ask.
April 7, 2017 at 09:25
Hi Brit, just to update you on my situation, i called the embassy about the incorrect dates on the passports and they have taken them back in to change them so we will be travelling with our newborn in August, when i asked about procedure with a newborn they were very vague so i’m presuming i’ll just get in contact when the baby is born and take it from there?
Thanks agin for all your help and advice i will post about my interview experience shortly

Hi brit how van We know our interview date in spite of the adress That are given by the no reply e-mail.
How can We chek it If the primary name is for exemple ” Micheal kalonji mbaya?
March 28, 2017 at 21:51
The interview dates are shown in the ESC page.
March 28, 2017 at 21:10
hi Brit, My interview has was 3 weeks ago. I was asked to provide I-864 in addition . This has been successfully sent 2 days after the interview. No one has contacted me since then. Today I have contacted the embassy in order to get any update. I was told just to wait. I have just checked my status, thank to the information you provided and status was : Issued. I know this should mean that all went well ,but no one has been in contact with me. If status shows ‘Issued ‘ , is there a chance that you might not get the visa approved ? Please excuse me if the question sounds silly . thank you in advance. Regards Slavisimo
March 28, 2017 at 21:47
If this was a DV lottery case, the embassy are clueless. The I-864 is the wrong form for DV. Seeing issued is very reassuring, but, the best idea is to wait until you have the visa in your hand.
March 28, 2017 at 21:18
Hi Simon, just reveived my 2NL. Just wondering if it is ok to plan a vacation in the US *right before* (ie week before) my interview? Don’t want to get in any trouble at the border/interview. Would do the medical before my vacation so it’s all at the embassy in time.
Also, my work contract ends April 30 and I am not looking for a new job as I plan to relocate after the interview (or go on a working holiday to NZ in the rare case I am denied). Will it be a problem at the interview if I am officially unemployed?
Thanks for your help.
March 28, 2017 at 21:26
No problem and no problem. Please number questions in future.
March 28, 2017 at 21:19
Hi Brit,
Thanks for all the help you provide here.a couple of questions:
1) what would be the best response for a sponsor for question 17 in part 3 of the new i-134 forms?
2) any issues having a sponsor who had sponsored a couple of people in the past over 4 years ago?
3) can 2 affidavits be presented at the interview
Thanks again
March 28, 2017 at 21:24
1. The truth.
2. A very small risk that they somehow “connect the dots”.
3. That would be pointless. Each one either meets or does not meet the requirement. If it does, it is all you need. If it doesn’t, it’s worthless.

2.is there any place it shows that i have to go the hospital for checking or i have jst to go to the hospital myself for checking and tell the doctor what it is about….cause i cant see where it says hospital checking
March 29, 2017 at 02:27
1. Sometimes. If needed the embassy will tell you.
2. It must be a doctor approved by the embassy – they will make that information clear.
March 29, 2017 at 01:07
Hello Simon,
Thank you for the information you provided here. They all helped me in my process to gain Visa. I got Visa.
I was planning to come to US on APRIL 11, and I heard that we cannot take laptop and electronic devices to US while passing through Muslim countries.
Since I am from Nepal and most of the transit is from Muslim countries, please provide more information on sorting out this problem.
March 29, 2017 at 02:26
The restriction means those devices need to be in suitcases in checked baggage – not carry on.
April 1, 2017 at 02:43
Thank you 🙂
March 29, 2017 at 03:55
Dear brit my interview is on the 3rd of April my sponser sent me the affidavit of support and 1040 form for the year 2015 is it going to be acceptable or does he need to update it.

Dear Brit I have some confusion on DS260 form. I have followed the guide you have been provided but still got confusion so kindly support in clearing the below confusion
1. I was confused while posting the state or province name while filling DS260 so I leave it blank, do I leave it as it is or change it what you suggest ?
2. I have confusion on filling present address, if I am born in the same address and still in the same so what date should I fill (after the age of 16 or from birth)
3. I also have confusion in filling the previous address, I have left my birthplace after marriage so in previous address do I have to fill it from my birth date of after the age of 16 ? (as it says from the age of 16 in previous address)
4. In my Passport and citizenship the address is named BAGESWORI but I filled in DS260 BAGESWARI as government is changing the name as BAGESWARI later on other government documents. so what you suggest on it ?
Sorry for asking too many questions
March 29, 2017 at 18:39
1. Blank is fine if it does not apply.
2. Just fill that address.
3. I can’t understand your confusion. You have two addresses in your life. Current address and previous address. How is that confusing?
4. Relax. Leave it.
March 29, 2017 at 12:54
Hey Brit
Hw ar u
I just want to ask u two question

And my sure in name is Oamar
But the right one is Qamar
It was by mistake
Is there is any problem with this
Tnk u bro
March 29, 2017 at 17:15
1. That varies by case and embassy – https://britsimonsays.com/all-about-public-charge-affidavit-of-support-i-134/
2. Possibly yes – create another account.
March 29, 2017 at 16:04
Hi brit pls am from Ghana, I submitted my dv forms on October am a current but I have not receive my interview date yet and I think I will receive it on this month but I didn’t. Pls can u explain the reason to me.Thanks
March 29, 2017 at 16:47
I don’t know for sure. Not all cases take the same time for processing. So perhaps your case needed longer or perhaps the Ghana embassy couldn’t handle the volume of interviews. Either way – patience is key.
March 29, 2017 at 16:22
Hi Brit,
I hope you are doing well,
i have received my 2nl and my interview is in the first week in May.
i have discovered that there is a mistake in my child’s given name,
My interview is in Paris
What should i do ?
Thank you in advance for your help
March 29, 2017 at 16:45
Inform the CO at the interview. It’s no a big problem.
March 29, 2017 at 17:59
Hi Brit,
I’m a DV2017 second draw selectee.
I’ve my appointment on May-16 in the USA Embassy of Panama, Im not Panamenian, im Venezuelan. I live there but i dont have a legal status as “Resident” or something, im entering and getting out as a tourist.
Would this affect me in my interview? do they ask for residence prove or something like that?
Im calling to the embassy to ask about special paperwork status like “Apostilla de la haya” or something like that because im not Panamenian, or legal in Panama.
I really need help to see if this is going to affect my result or my interveiw, or stay calm and go without trouble.
Thanks for your answer.
March 29, 2017 at 18:57
Why did you get scheduled in Panama?? They may ask about your residence, but it isn’t a deal breaker. You must perform the medical at the Panamanian Embassy choice of physician – and then wait for your passport after interview – so allow for that time.
March 29, 2017 at 18:18
Brit, You are God-send. Thank you once more.
We have received 2NL. Tried registering appointment online but says not ready. 1. Can we schedule medical appointment before registering online? We want to email IOM medical providers even as we contact NVC/Embassy about online registration. 2. On finances, my brother gave us some lumpsum money in exchange for our land share, but should we not go through, he is willing to take back his money and we retain the land. Should the embassy asks us about this lumpsum and we say it is about land sale in preparation for US, can it affect our case?
Thank you.
March 29, 2017 at 18:55
1. Yes
2. If asked, just be honest.
March 29, 2017 at 19:02
Thanks a lot
March 29, 2017 at 18:55
Dear Simon, my UK police certificate was issued on March 14, 2017, and my interview date is May 22. I am no longer living in the UK since 2014. Do you think my police certificate is valid for the interview or I should renew it?
March 29, 2017 at 20:10
Dear brit
I did my police clearance since
February 16 and my interview is on may 2 can it cause me a problm
Since i make it so early
March 29, 2017 at 20:50
No problem.
March 29, 2017 at 20:45
hi brit I want to know if its too soon to have medical more then a month befor interview like 04/04 medical for 08/05 interview ?
March 29, 2017 at 20:48
The visa will have an expiry date of 6 months after the medical. So – early medical is OK but will mean less time to enter the USA before expiry.
March 29, 2017 at 21:48
Thanks so much for your knowledge Sir. I will donate if I’m successful. I got my 2nl and I’m already compiling documents for my May interview. Was u supposed to confirm interview with the embassy or just show up for the interview? Also I didn’t see anything about sponsor form that I’ve been hearing about on your website or bank personal bank statements, did I miss something? I think we do have sufficient funds and I will bring supporting documents nonetheless but I just needed clarification.
Please advise, thanks
March 29, 2017 at 23:36
Some embassies require you to setup an account with a courier prior to the interview. If they need that – they will tell you.
About finances – read this.

March 30, 2017 at 01:33
Hello, what is means ESC?
March 30, 2017 at 03:12
The websire where you saw you were selected.
March 30, 2017 at 04:19
Hi Brit
I have got my 2NL few days back, “thanks God”, though my case number is not current.
Is that normal? I am indeed mystified.
March 30, 2017 at 06:14
What is your case number (and region)
March 30, 2017 at 07:37
Hi Simon,
I got my 2NL and my interview is in the first week in May.I’m just collecting education document for interview
1. my name on dv entry, passport,ds-260 application ,birth date certificate and 2NL was MELKAMU MENGISTU AYELE how ever, on my educational documents MALKAMU MANGISTU AYALA this circumstance affect my case? if yes ,how to I fix prior to interview ? changeability Ethiopia
2. as I filled my age on dv entry I’m 21 years old; but 17 years live in school and currently 4 year university student. Is my age OK ?
thanks.
March 30, 2017 at 14:58
1. If all documents are genuine, then the only problem is that a school cannot spell. (!!!). However, typically this would not cause refusal.
2. Yes
March 30, 2017 at 08:47
Hi Simon. Would you please answer this question? Is it better to have Sponsor or having certain amount of money in my bank account?
I’ve heard having a sponsor extends the visa issance time. As I am from Iran, I need to get the visa as soon as possible. Thnks Simon.
March 30, 2017 at 14:53
The sponsor needs to show INCOME not savings.
I don’t know what you mean by ” having a sponsor extends the visa issance time”
March 30, 2017 at 16:48
I mean they put my case on AP to check who is my Sponsor. Sorry for my bad English. 😀
March 30, 2017 at 16:59
That can happen but is very rare.
March 30, 2017 at 08:55
That you Simion for the help so far. I have been following you for a year now. We finally got the 2NL for May 02 Interview, we submited September and Unlocked in early November. AF19*** case Number.
I have these questions?
1. Can our sponsor send the complete I -134 and attachements directly to the Embassy as some information on the form is very sensitive?
2. What percentage should the sponsor’s income be above the FPL?
3. What info important info should be included in the Letter of support, if you choose to go this way?
4. I dropped one name from my birth certificate, but used the other 3 exactly, will I need a public Notary for this?
Thank you.
March 30, 2017 at 14:52
1. No. They give it to you.
2. It needs to meet the FPL.
3. A letter of support should have an I-134 attached to it. The CO will then look at the I-134 and ignore the letter. 🙂
4. If this was a legal name change you should provide paperwork. Hopefully you included the full name on the DS260. If not, the CO may be concerned.
March 30, 2017 at 10:25
Thanks brit I received my 2nl on the 28 l m very happy
1) i espected my interview in 2016 from October to December but now it is may . my sponsored is saying that the affidavit she prepared covered her financial for 2015 is it valid for now
March 30, 2017 at 14:45
It needs recent income information – W2 and payslips.
March 30, 2017 at 11:20
Hello Mr. Simon
we received our 2NL for May interviews.
i looked through your FAQ and found quite valuable informations, thanks for that.
what i didn’t find was that will i have to send out my documents (i read people do this when going to Ankara embassy, though our interview holds @ Abu Dhabi). im almost certain we gotta take our documents with ourselves instead of posting them. please guide me.
March 30, 2017 at 14:43
Follow the instructions from that embassy.
March 30, 2017 at 11:41

March 30, 2017 at 15:42
Douglas, we are scheduled for May interview in Nairobi. Will you mind reaching us out so we can inquire more from you? elimunet at gmail.com
March 30, 2017 at 12:13
Hi Brit;
When I checked CEAC I found this for my family(my wife:princ App,me and my 2 daughters):
01…issued
02….issued
03…administration process
04…issued
A)So ho is number 03?if my one of my daughter I suppose that the problem is her name(in the passport “ALA” but in Ds260 “ALAA”
B)is there a problem with this because my wife has forget to mention that to the CO?
March 30, 2017 at 12:14
Thank you in advance?
March 30, 2017 at 14:39
Just wait a day then check again.
March 30, 2017 at 12:57
My husband and I are both Italian citizens, currently leaving and legally working in the USA (NJ) with an H1B and H4 visa. We will process the application through USCISare submitting the DS 260 and getting ready for the doc’s appointment as from our understanding all case numbers became current now. We have been asked for $250 each for doc’s appointment, this exclude the cost eventual vaccines and blood tests we might have do do. Is this right? Is it true that the visit is not covered by insurance?
March 30, 2017 at 14:38
That depends on your insurance – but mine wasn’t covered.
When you say you are submitting the DS260 – do you in fact mean the I-485?
April 4, 2017 at 20:23
Thank you for your reply. KCC told us it was better to submit also the DS 260 so they were aware we wanted to go ahead with the process. We also sent the adjustment of status fee and we are waiting for the receipt that will have to be included in the package with the I-485.
Once the CS will sign the I-693 we will send the application to USCIS.
I have 2 more questions if you don’ mind:
1.Do we have to book the interview at our USCIS local office or do they call us?
2.Can we do the vaccinations at local pharmacy before the appointment with the CS so we can save up some time?
Thank you again!
April 4, 2017 at 20:28
Yes I agree the AoSers should submit the DS260 – but is seems like you left this all quite late.
1. They schedule it when they are ready.
2. Yes, but you might get more than or less than what is needed.
April 4, 2017 at 20:47
thank you! We waited for the case to be current before paying the adjustment fee.
KCC confirmed the receipt should arrive next week and that we don’t need to wait for the 2NL, the receipt is enough.
Doc’s appointment is in 2 weeks.
I also red we could send the I-485 now and send the I-693 once ready. Do you think it could compromise the application?
Thank you
April 4, 2017 at 22:51
I would wait for the medical – there is no difference in waiting a week or two more.
March 30, 2017 at 13:01
Hi Simon,
I apologize because this topic has been dealt with numerous times.
In your post about translations you write that anybody (e.g. friend) who knows both languages can translate my documents and certify the translation.
I am still hesitant to give it to a friend to translate it because to me it does sound a little risky. They are documents from Germany where translating is highly regulated.
I called an (external) visa info line of the embassy in London and the assistant on the other line said documents have to be translated by a professional translator (I think he generally didn’t know what he was talking about).
Now, I don’t really know what to do.
Have you heard of cases where a translation was not accepted because it was not made by a professional translator?

Hello Simon,
Thanks for the invaluable job you are doing. I initially filled the DS 260 in July 2016, unlocked and in October 2016. On March 30, 2017, I received the 2NL. My number is AF46***

Hi Simon! I hope you are doing well.
I received the 2nl and the interview date two days ago, and I created a DHL account today, and tried to register my appointment, but after I fill in my information, it states that the case number is not ready to schedule (I’m sure all the information I filled in is correct, including my case number, and it shows Ready on Ceac).Should I try again in a few days, or is it something wrong with it? Thanks in advance.

Hi Brit
I am observing hi case numbers for Africa such as 46***. The highest number you find with your method was I think 42712. Was there any update after that?
March 30, 2017 at 21:10
Not that I know of.
March 30, 2017 at 19:45

Hi Brit. If one is ready, and has been scheduled for interview, can they request the Embassy to push an appointment forward i.e. earlier than scheduled? Is this advisable and prudent?
March 30, 2017 at 19:56
IOM Medical service provider is requesting for:
1. Copy of valid passport’s bio-data page (for all family members)
2. Your case number /letter from the US consular.
This data holds everything for one to access my DS260, CEAC etc. Is it normal to ask for them and what of safety?
March 30, 2017 at 21:09
Want your medical? Do what they ask.
March 30, 2017 at 21:09
No.
