May 6, 2017 at 03:52
I don’t know anything about Nepalese laws.
May 6, 2017 at 04:08
simon u don’t know about nepalese law but in my case there are two surname of my mother so does it affect in interview or not.aa
May 6, 2017 at 04:42
I don’t know.
May 9, 2017 at 13:57
I assume the reverse is true? If I qualify by the high school education requirement but I listed university degree as my highest education level reached even though my degree certificate is missing, can that be a ground for disqualification?
May 9, 2017 at 14:11
No
May 10, 2017 at 00:39
That’s a relief! Thanks. Was thinking about unlocking the DS 260 to correct that and just select “university no degree”.
May 5, 2017 at 16:33
Hello Brit,
awesome website thank you so much for your help.
My sister has recently been selected for Diversity Visa 2017. I guess they did a second selection cause she was not selected when we checked on May 2016. She completed DS260 yesterday. I’m afraid that it’s too late and they don’t have visa available anymore. When do you think she will get an interview? Can she come here in USA to visit me in the meanwhile? Thanks
May 5, 2017 at 16:44
She might get an August or September interview.
She can travel on a visitors visa in the meantime.
May 5, 2017 at 16:36
Hi simon
Is it possible that somethings have gone wron with dv 2018? I know several ppl who have applied for hundreds of ppl and only one or two were selected. Even with the probability rule it should not be only one or two out of several hundred applications! It sounds a bit weird.
May 5, 2017 at 16:43
In AF region the rate is one selectee for around 200 applications. BUT if someone re-used DV2017 photos – they will have reduced that selection rate. Nothing has gone wrong.
May 5, 2017 at 21:36
but how can these affect others who have not used old picture
May 5, 2017 at 22:22
You understand the concept of a lottery – right? What country are you talking about?
May 5, 2017 at 17:14

May 5, 2017 at 18:00

May 5, 2017 at 17:56

May 5, 2017 at 18:04
Hi Simon, great website! I just got selected for DV-2018 and I’m in the US on an E3 visa currently so I want to do AOS. The ‘if you are selected’ page of the state.gov website says to go to your local USCIS office for info on how to proceed if you want to do AOS. How soon would I need to do this? I already checked out the steps you laid out in your FAQ’s (via the link to the excel spreadsheet so have a loose understanding of the AOS process). I just submitted DS-260 and nominated the option that I wanted my info sent to USCIS. Also, is it possible to select which field office will conduct the interview once my number comes up on DV bulletin? Or is the field office assigned based on your current address on DS-260? My number is on the higher end so I’m wanting to go to a field office that might be less busy… Thanks!!
May 5, 2017 at 18:14
You don’t go to the USCIS office to check if you’re eligible. If you have remained in status and will be in status when you submit, you are eligible.
Your office will be chosen by them, based on your address.
How high is your number?
May 5, 2017 at 18:36
Thanks Simon! My number is 2018OC10**
May 6, 2017 at 04:39
Good number.
May 5, 2017 at 19:10
Hiii mister Simon I oredy received my visa but in the white paper they wrote my final adress destination to the first my sponsor.but I oredy changed my sponsor at date of my interview. Now we’re can I go now I oredy planned to go to my new sponser .
May 6, 2017 at 04:35
Live where you want.
May 5, 2017 at 19:19
Hi Simon,
I was selected for DV-2017 (case #2017EU00028XXX) and have my interview scheduled for beginning of June at the US Embassy in London, UK. However, I’m not sure I’ll be able to gather all necessary documents in time, if I reschedule will it be too risky, given the current timeframe? As all cases in Europe are already current, does it mean they won’t run out of visas?
Thanks!
May 6, 2017 at 04:34
You can attend the interview and follow up with missing documents.
May 5, 2017 at 19:24
Hi Simon,
When translating documents such as police records or birth certificates into English, do translations need to be officially done by translators and even notarised, or can they be done by someone who’s fluent in English?
Thanks,
Serena
May 6, 2017 at 04:32
Anyone fluent.
May 5, 2017 at 20:03
Hello britsimon..i check my dv 2018 lottery result.i found there that I am not selected what can I do now.do I still have chance to be selected
May 6, 2017 at 04:30
No. Try DV2019.
May 5, 2017 at 20:07
Hello Simon, Thank u for your helpful? i have a question, I apply dv lottery 2018 for my brother and he wons. I dont remember what i wrote about his marrige, How can i check what i answered about his marrige? please can you help me?
May 5, 2017 at 22:30
Well it’s no problem if you told the truth.
May 5, 2017 at 20:15
Hi Britt..
Is there any fee that I am supposed to pay before I get the case number? Also, what is the essence of an account ID number?
May 5, 2017 at 21:00
You pay fees at the interview. Other than that – you must be more clear.
May 6, 2017 at 19:35
I was selected on march she received the conglatulation message. I was told to click somewhere to open account she was given account id n was told to pay some fee of about 129
dollers for aos.is that in order?
May 6, 2017 at 19:37
THis sounds like a scam. I don’t know of a fee for $129 connected to DV lottery.
May 5, 2017 at 20:40
Helllo!
i am trying to understand the process of how an interview selection is processed. I know you’ve posted bunch of blogs for this subject but I do not fully understand it yet.
From my understanding, the lower the case number, the higher your chances of being selected for an interview. If I had a CN around 37000, that means that my chances are low for being selected for the Europe region?
I saw your blog about estimating when my interview will occur but for Europe, the highest CN you had was about 25000. If I had a 37000 number, what does that mean in regards of when my interview will occur if I submit my DS260 in May 2017?
Thank you,
Kay
May 5, 2017 at 20:57
Numbers are unique within regions. So – what region are you in – always write the year/region – like 2018AF1234
May 6, 2017 at 04:29
Your number is high. You will have to wait about a year to know whether you might make it or not.
May 5, 2017 at 21:29
hello britsimon is threre any dv 2018 winner from Ghana it looks like most people are complaining about low selection
May 5, 2017 at 22:29
Ghana!!!! Well OBVIOUSLY there is a low chance of selection there. Because of idiot agents registering hundreds of people and ripping them off, Ghanaians has managed to ruin their own DV experience.
Around 2,000,000 people will have entered from Ghana – and about 4000 to 5000 will have been selected because a limit is applied to avoid too many Ghanaians being selected. So for Ghanaians the chance of selection is about 1 in 400, and of those selected, most will be refused for inaccurate entries, fraudulent documents and so on.
May 6, 2017 at 08:09
thanks very much simon
May 8, 2017 at 17:25
Hi Brit in regards to to ”mattiasega” reply for Ghana.Does it mean that the agents registering and taking monies from selectees is a problem?or the inaccuracies of the data on applicants?I am from Ghana and been applying DV lottery myself for 11 years and did not win even though i am hopeful.
A friend who i introduced him to the DV program has won DV 2015 and in the US.
If the law states that there should be equal chance of selection why should a limit be put on Ghana??Please explain further. Thanks in advance.
May 8, 2017 at 17:32
The agents are registering people with inaccurate information.
The agents are registering people with old photos, or as single when they are married.
The agents are offering to make everything wonderful for a fee – and of course – people are getting denied at interview. It’s a complete mess. It’s a mess made by agents and people who think it’s ok to lie, or present fraudulent documents.
As for the equal chance – well yes – but when all these entries are submitted you cannot seriously expect Accra embassy to interview 20,000 cases – so they limit the number of cases based on not overwhelming the embassy with cases that will be refused 8 or 9 times out of each 10 cases.
The people of Ghana can change this. Stop using agents, stop presenting fake documents and follow the instructions correctly.
May 8, 2017 at 17:44
Thanks Brit so what you saying is that the agents are the cause of our woes or the Embassy?I dont think a lot of guys can fill the DV form thats why people seek the agent way and also many people in different countries could face similar fate.Ghana is a morally sound country and people know the risk of trying to compromise. I know Ghana is mostly favoured but i dont know what is happening.
May 8, 2017 at 17:48
It is not the fault of the embassy.
But do you really think that 2 million people out of a total population of 26 million is genuine entries – of course not.
Then the people that turn up at the interview with fake documents causing denial – are you saying that is “morally sound”?
It seems to me that the agents and the people who continue the process based on incorrect entries and fake documents are the problem. Those people are overwhelming the system and causing an artificially low chance of selection.
May 8, 2017 at 18:03
Some could be ignorance and some deliberate but i think with the fake documents issue its not all the time. There will some few people who will try and do fraud. But what do you gain if you try to commit fraud and you are caught.I believe any other person in different part of the globe will try one way or the other to do fraud. How do you know that many of the entries are caused by agents though? There are agents too in some countries. Many thanks for the quick replies
May 8, 2017 at 18:50
If you look at the entry count in Ghana (google DV lottery statistics) you can see an exponential ris in entries without a logical rise in derivatives. It is OBVIOUS that agents are causing this.
May 5, 2017 at 22:49
Hey Simon,
I’ve been selected for DV2018.
Before i submit the DS260 I thought I would marry my partner next week so it makes the process easier for us both in the long term.
Would you recommend?
Thanks & this website is amazing!
May 6, 2017 at 04:22
Yes.
May 6, 2017 at 08:03
Hi Simon,
Please help me with 2018 dvlottery results by countries, I want to know the number of persons that won in liberia this year.
May 6, 2017 at 17:47
The numbers will be published in a month or two.
May 5, 2017 at 23:33
Hi BritSimon
I just knew I won DV 2018…2018AF00019*** from Ethiopia
Is it among the highest numbers..?
when do you think they can fix me an appointment for the interview if I apply now..?
– can I apply without passport numbers…(since it is expired )…i mean can I take my valid passport during the interview..?
thanks
May 6, 2017 at 04:20
It is too soon to know about case numbers – but yours is fine.
Yes that is fine on the passport.
May 5, 2017 at 23:48
I tried everything…DV-2018 “The information entered is not valid”….Where is the problem

May 6, 2017 at 00:34
Hi Brit
i’ve been selected on the dv-2018 ( my case number is 2018AS00012xxx ) so i called the KCC phone number (606-526-7500) to ask them some questions …… so they ask me for my case number then my name then my date of birth and then they say that my birthdate is wrong so they keep asking me to repeat it but they always say it’s wrong and they say that they can’t keep talking to me since i’m giving them wrong information , so i go to ceac.state.gov to fill my DS206 and i put my case number and i click continue and it open new page asking me for my birthdate so i put it click continue and i get an error .
so obviously i type my birthday wrong when i fill the dv lottery form ( and i didn’t notice that )
now the problem is that i don’t know the birthdate that i register with so i can’t enter and fill my DS206 ….. i can keep trying until i get it right i mean after all there is 356 day in the year ( since i know my year of birth is correct because i use it to get my resultat ) so i have no problem trying 356 time until i find the correct one but i didn’t know if that’s the right thing to do .
so how can i solve this …..
thanks
May 6, 2017 at 03:57
You can do what you describe. There is no other solution.
May 6, 2017 at 14:14
thx for replying …
i try that out and i finally get the birthdate that i regestred with ….
and my question is what should i do next ( science the birthday that i have still wrong ) should send them an email …….. or should i wait for the interview to correct this error
BTW : only my day of birth is wrong (my month and year are correct )
May 6, 2017 at 15:02
You must enter the correct birthdate in the DS260. You can also email KCC if you like.
May 6, 2017 at 19:10
ok ….
One further question if you dont mind …
is correcting this issue in ds206 enough or do i still have to do another things ,
and i am still going to get my green card or do i lose it ??
BTW (i’m from tunisia but i was born in syria )
THX 🙂
May 6, 2017 at 19:29
THat is all you need to do. There is always a risk of refusal at the interview. Your mistake increases that risk slightly, but that can only be decided by the CO (interviewer).
May 6, 2017 at 01:39
Hi
I am in DV 2018. I would like to know if my kids, my spouse and myself all get the green cards at the end, are the green card status of the kids still depend on mine? If I need to give up the green card later for some reason, will it affect my kids’ green card? Thanks for your help!
May 6, 2017 at 03:54
NO – there is no dependency.
May 6, 2017 at 03:54
NO – there is no dependency.
May 6, 2017 at 06:59
Thanks so much!
May 6, 2017 at 07:07
One further question please. My brother in US petitioned for me and my family and we are in the queue but still quite some years to go. If we managed to get our green cards through DV program, will they cancel my brother’s petition ?
Thanks again! This is really a great website!
May 6, 2017 at 17:49
Yes.
May 6, 2017 at 01:58
I only have high school diploma no work experience and I am selected so what will happen
May 6, 2017 at 03:54
You have to check whether your education will meet the requirements in your country.
May 6, 2017 at 03:40

May 6, 2017 at 04:02
Hello
I have two sons. I live in the USA. My sons are citizen of USA. older one was born before the 2018 entry so I included him. now I see his name on ds260. Should I complete form for him, or is there any way to remove him. because some questions does not have an answer, for example when did you come usa (he has been here since the birth).
my second son was born after 2018 entry is over. he is 2month old now. Should i add him to ds260.
May 6, 2017 at 04:42
Both should be on your DS260’s, but neither needs a DS260 of there own.
May 6, 2017 at 04:45
thanks so much for answering my last question.
My number is 2018OC000010**
Is this a good number?
Thanks again.
May 6, 2017 at 04:53
Yes
May 6, 2017 at 04:48
Hi Simon,
I currently live in the US and will do Consulate Processing in my home country. When filing form DS-260, should I use my address in the US as my current address or provide an address in my home country even though I do not currently live there?
I’m concerned that if my address history is not accurate, it might cause problems. What would you do?
Thanks for this great website!
May 6, 2017 at 04:52
List you accurate address then email KCC to ask them to set your case as CP.
May 6, 2017 at 05:05
Thanks Simon!
May 6, 2017 at 05:00
HI BRIT
thanks for this nice forum.
i want to know that does each country has it’s own percentage for being called for interview or it is base on the region,
I am from Afghanistan so does my country has it’s percentage or it is base on Asia.
DV-2018
thanks!
May 6, 2017 at 17:55
It is regional and by case number order.
May 6, 2017 at 05:12
hey pleasure to contact and really need a help. we just discovered that my fiance made a mistake on her name while participated for the lottery. how can we correct that? thanks
May 6, 2017 at 17:55
If she has been selected, enter the name correctly on the DS260.
May 6, 2017 at 05:44
Dear Simon,
i entered US two weeks ago, and now i have got my SSN,
I just wanna confirm you about the green card.
1) Everyone has to pay the green card fees when they went for interview right? (forgot whether i paid or not)
2) I just need to wait till they send it to me which normally takes 3-4 months. (correct me if I am wrong)
3) is there anyway I can track my green card? whether they are processing or not.
Thank you in advance
Soe Thura
May 6, 2017 at 17:54
1. There is a fee paid at the interview ($330) and a further fee if approved ($220). You have to pay that other fee asap.
2. GC arrives within a few months *IF* you paid the fee.
3. Elis is the website – but it’s best just to wait.
May 6, 2017 at 07:27
Hey simon… initially while filling up dv lottery form I entered my educational status as high school without degree but I am with degree now…. will it create problems for visa??
May 6, 2017 at 17:48
No
May 6, 2017 at 07:37

May 6, 2017 at 09:41
I hope every eligible country stands the chance to get 7% out of 50000 wins each year, but your earlier post about Ghanaian way of registration tells that we cant get that budgeted % for Ghana this year
May 6, 2017 at 17:45
How can every country get 7% of the 50,000?? That is a MAXIMUM limit that no country can exceed. Not a quota for each country. Ghana won’t get many successful cases because there are many aspects of fraud there.
May 6, 2017 at 10:10
Hello Simon,
I have a problem with my Sign and Submit application:
I had entered the KCC case number, my passport number and the code, but every time the system reject my application and show me this problem:
The case number you entered does not match the case number that you entered at Sign In.
I’d entered the case number which I get on my “Check status” and I entered within the system. Is there a difference between this case number and “KCC” case number that I didn’t get it or where could be the problem?
I hope you can help me and tThank you in advance!

May 6, 2017 at 10:43
Hi Brit I have a friend who won the lottery this year has no high school degree, he is 17yrs old and will graduate from high school in June 2019. Do you know whether an applicant must meet the education requirement before dv lottery application or before the interview?
May 6, 2017 at 16:30
By the interview.
May 6, 2017 at 11:07
I am one of the winners of 2018, so when I was fill my edv entry form October 2016, I was selected Legally Separated option, but we are getting back together, and we live together again, so can I change my marriage status during fill DS-260 form? the second question is my first entry I have one as adopted child but he died accidentally, so what can I do for him? How I can solve those issue before submitting DS-260.
May 6, 2017 at 16:29
Well the legally separated option means you will have to show legal (court produced) papers that confirm that status. Without that, you are going to be disqualified (since you were actually married and left your wife of your entrance). If your marital status is now married, there would presumably be another court document to end the legal separation – again – without that, your case looks suspicious.
Regarding the child – again – this is going to be about paperwork. They could ask for adoption papers and death certificates – because with the type of life changes you have had they are certain to be suspicious.
May 6, 2017 at 20:05
Thanks mr Britsimon I have understood your message so now I have to prepare Legally Separated paper that confirm that status, and second I have to prepare again Reconcile Legally Separated that means paper indicates our union again. Isn’t it? So now Form DS-260 what will be marital status that I will choose is it Married?
Child issue is I have to prepare Death Certificate and Adoption Certificate isn’t it?
May 6, 2017 at 20:25
Those are the documents you would need for those issues (along with all normal documents).
Yes – if you want to proceed – you would proceed as married.
May 6, 2017 at 11:25
Hi Simon. Have you heard any Iranian whose case was on AP( not due to missing document ) and get his or her visa in 1 or 2 months? Thanks.
May 6, 2017 at 16:17
No, but that does not mean it hasn’t happened – I just don’t track everyones cases that precisely.
May 6, 2017 at 17:20
thanks for the answer 🙂
May 6, 2017 at 12:47
Hello again Mr. Simon,
I asked it to government’s official page.(you know what i am talking about)
They know it’s true but they are not accepting it, i have got my answer.
Thank you.
And about immigration forum’s topic :
I said, humans have every rights in every country except laws based on citizenship. And i answered other questions too but sm1smom has deleted my accounts and comments. She dont want to listen and she is angry person.
I asked her with personal message : How can i report you ?
Who can take your admin rights back, you were so rude to me ? then she banned me.
May 6, 2017 at 12:56
Government’s officials now the situation, really.
I have sent this message to them
*** Britsimon Edited out this nonsense ****
I don’t want to waste more time on this and I don’t want to give voice to people that won’t listen to what I have explained. There is nothing wrong with the draw of DV2018. It will not be re-drawn. Please stop posting this nonsense on my blog.

May 6, 2017 at 15:26
You are being very rude to someone that has helped MANY thousands of people through their DV journey. If she hadn’t banned you from there, I would have done so as I am also an admin there. You have no right to talk about her in that way, and when someone spends their own personal time trying to help you understand something you need to LISTEN and respect the opinion of someone who knows this subject WAY more than you do.
I deleted the nonsense you are repeating. I don’t want that same story posted here again. Don’t do that. If you want to ask some sensible questions, I might answer. If I do, I expect you to accept my answers, and if you cannot accept that – then go somewhere else to talk to someone who will listen.
But, because I am nice, I will answer your concern. Please read this carefully as it DESTROYS your “argument”.
THe DV2018 draw was performed correctly and will not be re-drawn. You are confusing information about technical specifications of photos and breaking the rules.
For example. A person could enter the lottery (even though that person cannot meet the requirements) – that is normal. I could submit a photo of an Ostrich that meets the technical specifications – that is possible. If I managed to be selected with that photo – I would obviously be disqualified later. That does not mean the government would have to re-draw that year AND has nothing to do with YOU. It is not unfair in any way.

Your embassy will be chosen based on your current address in the DS260.
May 6, 2017 at 20:57
Thanks Brit for your reply

Hi Simon, I’m a DV2018 winner, the issue is that I had a wrong understanding when applied and selected not married and no kids where I’m married and have 2 kids. when I read the instruction today found it wrong thing to be done, what is your advice? shall I apply with the right information? or write an email to KCCDV ? or ignore and try DV2019?
and do I have a good number? my number is 2018AS0xxxxx.
May 6, 2017 at 17:36
Ignore and try DV2019. There is no way to fix this and certain disqualification.
May 6, 2017 at 16:58
Hello Brit,
Please does qualifying by work experience solely depends on Your current job or previous jobs are also considered?
Cos l know it’s two years on a job for the past 5 years.
I am asking this because a friend went for interview and the co said his current job position as service manager, does not qualify her. Which is right But, she had 3 years working as Insurance Sales Agent, which is athe job zone 4, a clear qualification but the co said it’s her current job that matter. Simon please is it really the case?
May 6, 2017 at 17:07
Current job ,Food service manager to be specific
May 6, 2017 at 17:35
2 years WITHIN the past 5 years.
May 6, 2017 at 17:55
Thanks Mr Simon,
then l think the co was not right to have said previous work experience are irrelevant but the current job that matters.
Whereas the current job is just 1 year and a month. And the previous is 3 years, which would have qualified her if the co had considered listening to.
It’ seems quite unfortunate there’s no petitioning in dv cases, cos a second look at her case and documents could have been helpful.
Brit so what do you suggest?
Cos all reference letters and a documented cv showing job descriptions of both current and previous job positions, were presented at the interview but the co refused to look at them.
May 6, 2017 at 17:57
There is no appeal. The work experience matter is entirely up to the CO.
May 6, 2017 at 17:14
Hi Brit
Case Number: 2018AF0001xxxxx

Sounds like you picked Paris as your embassy in the eDV. Don’t worry – it will be based on your current address.

Hello Simon.
I won the lottery dv18
I live in europe but i stayed in canada as a student for 10 months, do i need a police certificate for that period?
And does bad credit score in canada reflect in police certificate?
Thank you in advance
May 6, 2017 at 17:31
I would get the Canadian police cert if I were you. The credit score won’t be on there – but it is not cool to live someone where, run up debts and then leave the country.
May 6, 2017 at 18:51
Simon sorry for asking questions constantly. what you do is a big help, so thank you for that.
When an officer put a case on AP. Which organization works on it? Is it the embassy?
If it is, Can we say, The embassy that is not crowded they work on a case faster?
May 6, 2017 at 18:57
It depends on what type of AP it is. If it is Background checks, they are performed centrally – the embassy have no control over that. So – normally the embassy cannot do anything about AP waiting times.
May 6, 2017 at 19:30
Brit
I would like to ask u one question about dv2017….so my question is:
My case is still AP so can i take my visa during Administration process?
May 6, 2017 at 19:38
No – you have to wait until AP is completed.
May 6, 2017 at 19:40
The very last question.
The color of the 221g says about type of AP? for example if it is white, does it mean anything?
May 6, 2017 at 19:42
Color is meaningless.
May 6, 2017 at 19:47
okay thank you so much for the help and your time 🙂

May 6, 2017 at 23:05
Hi BritSimon,
Thanks so much for your blog and your generosity in helping so many people.
Two questions:
1) I’m married and we filled out the DV entry correctly in terms of spouse, names, etc. However, I had yet to change from my maiden to married name on any official paperwork (for a couple of different reasons and it’s now been 3+ years). If I do that now, and take all paperwork to the interview, do you think that will be a problem? Is it worth checking with KCC?
2) As our number is 2018OC8** we are going to continue to apply for jobs via the E3 route, and if lucky transfer to GC. When do you think would be the latest to complete the DS260 so that it doesn’t delay an interview potentially in Mar-May next year?
Thanks so much

1. No problem.
2. Dec/Feb
