According to a twitter post from the US embassy in Ghana (shown below), the 2nd draw for DV2017 has taken place. Anyone in ANY region who was not selected in the May announcement should check the ESC site again. I’m sure the draw is a small amount of selectees, so the chances are small – but worth checking – and they will not contact you to inform you. So – check the ESC site here: https://www.dvlottery.state.gov/ESC
IF you have been selected in this 2nd draw – please comment here and let us know your region and approximate case number! Also, if you have been selected you can use my guide on how to complete the DS260 – here.
It is unlikely that there will be any other DV2017 draw after this time.

September 13, 2016 at 10:07
Hello,
Found your website while looking for informations about the procedure. Very useful stuff, it helped answering a lot of my initial questions.
I was in that second round, my case number is about 24500 in Europe. I actually received an e-mail on September 7th to inform me (I would never have checked otherwise).
Here’s the content of that e-mail.

Dear Diversity Visa Program entrant:
Additional names have been added for DV-2017 selection. Please use your unique confirmation number, last/family name, and year of birth to check your status on Entrant Status Check at http://www.dvlottery.state.gov/ESC.
Remember, only internet sites that end with the “.gov” domain suffix are official U.S. government websites. Many other websites (e.g., with the suffixes “.com,” “.org,” or “.net”) provide immigration and visa-related information and services. The Department of State does not endorse, recommend, or sponsor any information or material on these other websites. The Department of State, Kentucky Consular Center (KCC), or any other U.S. Government entity will never ask you to send money via email or request that you reply with personal information. The only fee associated with the DV program will be paid at the time of your interview.

Thanks for pasting the email. Congratulations!
September 13, 2016 at 18:05
I received the same email but am not yet selected
September 14, 2016 at 03:42
Weird, my girlfriend who wasn’t selected did not receive it. We always apply at the same time from the same region.
Hope you end up being selected!
September 13, 2016 at 13:14
Hi there,
I was selected at the second draw.
My CN is 2017EU00029xxx, a very high number unfortunately.
In respect of the last years statistic, my interview will be around april or may.
Does anybody who was selcted gets invited to the interview, if ds-260 was done properly?
Greets, RL
September 13, 2016 at 13:45
In some years people don’t get current (their number is too high). I think you will be fine.
September 14, 2016 at 21:41
Hi Simon
Before the second draw, you’ve answered many people that:
All numbers are safe in DV2017, all cases in all regions will be current, and this year, there are enough visas for everyone who wants one/is qualified. The questions are:
1-Are these answers valid for those who are selected in the 1st draw and not for those selected in the 2nd draw?
2- Does the 2nd draw influence the answers and now no longer valid?
2-Due to the 2nd draw;are too high case numbers selected in the 1st draw like for instance 2017AF00040000 are safe and could go current scheduled for interviews?.
Thanks
September 14, 2016 at 23:28
1. Yes those comments were concerning the 1st draw – the 2nd draw selectees cannot assume the same level of safety. I need more information to determine their chances.
2. see 1
3. 1st draw numbers are safe (with the exception perhaps of Nepal). There were not enough selectees to exhaust the visas – that is why there was a second draw.
September 15, 2016 at 06:53
Thanks Simon for your clear answers.

March 11, 2017 at 10:53
Hello
I have another question related to visa interview
I won the lottery in September and after I won i got married with my boyfriend. We have 7 years together and we have a lot of photos together since in high school . We also have photos when we traveled together and photos with our family. Is difficult for us to get the visa?
March 11, 2017 at 14:38
No
September 13, 2016 at 13:37
My wife and I entered the DV2017 together where she was the principal applicant and we had our interview on 28 April, CO returned our passports and kept out marriage certificate and placed our case on Administrative Processing but our case status was updated on September 12 and my wife status showed Ready and mine still Administrative Processing. Is this normal or what could be happening?
September 13, 2016 at 13:43
It’s not possible to be certain of what that means – wait a few days and see. You might want to check with the physician to see how quickly you could get a medical done just in case the embassy clears your cases in the next two weeks (the old medical will be expired).
September 14, 2016 at 06:36
If my case gets clear in the next few days or week. Will I or we be contacted by the embassy to submitted a new medical before going for the new medical? Or could the medical be a problem to getting the case cleared?
September 14, 2016 at 13:36
If your AP clears you will need a new medical – the embassy will tell you that. So – I told you to be ready because you will have to do the medical before the embassy can approve the case and THAT must happen by September 30th. You won’t have much time. Do as I said.
September 15, 2016 at 11:59
Thanks Brit for the advice i did as you said i call the medical center yesterday and they told me that they are on the stand by for our quick new medical. But this morning around 8 to 9, my wife received a call from the embassy asking for passport to be submitted tomorrow by 9AM. when i check the CEAC status for our case, my wife the principle applicant show ready and mine still administrative processing Could that pose a problem for me?
September 15, 2016 at 13:08
I don’t know.
September 14, 2016 at 08:26
Hello,
I was selected for Diversity Immigrant Visa Program for the fiscal year 2017, is there any payment needed before the interviews after submission of ds-260.
Secondly, do i have to travel to my home country to attend the interview?
What exact documents should i carry to the interview?
Your advise will be highly appreciated,
Thanks much.
September 14, 2016 at 13:29
You need to read the instructions!!!
1. You pay the fee at the embassy on the day of interview.
2. No

September 14, 2016 at 08:33
I am from Europe my number is around 23500 unexpected…. very happy!!! GOOD LUCK EVERY ONE!!!
September 14, 2016 at 13:39
First – congratulations. Did you get this in the second draw? It’s interesting because that is a number range that I had assumed was in the 1st draw – it’s very low for 2nd draw (which is great for you, but confusing for me)
🙂
September 19, 2016 at 04:01
Hi yes I was in the second draw..!
September 19, 2016 at 05:07
OK great – just about the first of the second draw numbers then.
September 19, 2016 at 10:51
Hi, I am from Africa, My CN 2017AF00042xxx, I think i have a low number because i get this in the second draw.
September 19, 2016 at 11:44

September 19, 2016 at 22:07
No, Cameroon
September 19, 2016 at 22:13

September 14, 2016 at 14:35
Hi Simon.
I was selected in the DV2017 2nd draw, I’m from SA and my case # is around 17XX. I think it’s a high number, so I don’t have my hopes up. What are your thoughts?
September 14, 2016 at 14:37
I’m working on some analysis now to try to get some better idea. I need more information to estimate the number of people added in the second draw – and my post will explain what information I need. You will see that post in the next day or so.
September 14, 2016 at 15:21
Thanks for your response.
I have another question: Is there a 2nd draw every year?
September 14, 2016 at 16:23
Not every year. Just in years where the first draw is a lower number of selectees.
September 14, 2016 at 16:39
Hi there! I am lucky second draw selectee, my CN 2017EU0002310x. I want to go for it inspite the fact that I’m asylum applicant for 2.7 years. Also I filed DS-260 already and will do AOS. Good luck for everyone!
September 14, 2016 at 19:36
Make sure you read the AOS thread at the link below. That resource should be your main resource.

September 14, 2016 at 22:24
Hi, I’m from Spain. I was selected in the second draw with CN 2017EU00024XXX. I am worried because when I was filling my DS-260 I discovered that my passport had expired, so I selected “Other valid document” instead, thinking I could amend this as soon I had renewed my passport. I have it now, but it seems there is no way you can make any changes in the form at this stage. Will I be able to correct this at the interview?
September 14, 2016 at 23:33
You can email KCC to unlock your form to allow changes. Google “Britsimon unlock”.
September 15, 2016 at 07:37
Thank you so much. I’ll do it immediately.
September 15, 2016 at 03:43
Hi, I’m from Australia and I was selected in the second draw. My case number is 2017OC000011XX
do you know if i would get a interview?
September 15, 2016 at 03:47
You will. Just a matter of time and patience…
September 15, 2016 at 09:39
Hi again, Do you have any idea what the OC Region numbers will cut of for interview?
September 15, 2016 at 13:36
Hi Brit,
Thank you for your devoted work you are doing for all of us!!! Much appreciated!!!
My CN is EU 25 xxx and I haven’t submitted my DS-260 as I have some doubts about the
section with my present address, and the ones I’ve lived in the past.
So this is my case:
As a student I lived in a campus (in Sofia, Bulgaria from September 2010 until February 2016) and after graduation I rent an apartment and still living there. The thing is that my landlord wouldn’t let me register in her apartment so I’m living there without being registered in the municipality .
After realizing I was selected in the second draw on 6Th September I started filling in my DS-260 and then I found that my passport had expired. In order to get a new one promptly, I registered for a permanent address in my aunt’s apartment here in Sofia (Bulgaria). So in papers I’m living there since September on but physically I live in the apartment I rent. The addresses are in the same city but in different neighborhoods.
Could you please advise me of which address I shall write as present in DS-260, the one I physically live on or the one which is in my ID card and all the official papers? I don’t want to confuse KCC, that’s why
I’m worried and asking for help.
Regards,
Yavor
September 15, 2016 at 13:55
You just need to make a choice and move on! Either address is fine.
September 15, 2016 at 14:04
Thank you Brit!
I also think that it doesn’t matter as they are in the same city and if address is used just for a police check either should be fine.
September 15, 2016 at 19:46
Hi, I’m from Venezuela and I was selected in the second draw. My case number is 2017SA000019XX.
I get an email like this:
“Dear Diversity Visa Program entrant:
Additional names have been added for DV-2017 selection. Please use your unique confirmation number, last/family name, and year of birth to check your status on Entrant Status Check at http://www.dvlottery.state.gov/ESC.
Remember, only internet sites that end with the “.gov” domain suffix are official U.S. government websites. The Department of State does not endorse, recommend, or sponsor any information or material on these other websites. The only fee associated with the DV program will be paid at the time of your interview.
U.S. Department of State”
I completed my DS-260 form and send it, they send a confirmation email like:
“Thank you for being a valued U.S. Consular Electronic Application Center (CEAC) customer. Your online Immigrant Visa and Alien Registration Application Form(DS-260) has been submitted.
Name Provided: AXXXXX FXXXXXXXX, RICARDO XXXX
Completed On: 12 SEPTEMBER 2016 22:01:59 EST
Case Number: 2017SA191X”
With a confirmation page attached.
I called the KCC for more information and to confirm they get my DS-2670 form, and they answer something like “we are in the case # like 500 or something, so you have to wait for the confirmation of the intervew” – “For SA that usually dont take that long” – “Be ready with all your documents and medical”
I’ve some Q:
1) How long will i have to wait?
2) Is my case number too high?
3) After my interview, if i get the DV, when can i move to the US?
4) I dont have all the medical stuff here in Panama where i live, and they are not cheap so, do i wait for the confirmation of the intervew for the medical stuff?
5) I’ll arrive in Miami, because i’ve familly and friends there, but i dont want to live that much time in Miami, can i move after being like 3 months there?
Thanks for your help, and sorry for my english, i’ve a lot of time without practice
September 15, 2016 at 19:52
1. Until next summer – probably August or September.
2. Possibly. It is very high – you have to wait and see.
3. You are given a visa in your passport after the interview (about 1 to 2 weeks after interview). You can enter USA as soon as you have that, but it must be before the expiry date on the visa (which is dated 6 months after the medical).
4. Yes – you book the medical when you get the 2NL (interview notification)
5. Live where you like.
September 15, 2016 at 20:31
Thanks Brit! it will be a long wait :'(
September 15, 2016 at 23:52
Hi, I am also a DV lottery winner for the second draw, and my CN is 2017OC000011xx , i got the same letter as those letters posted above, and have already submitted my ds 260 forms , that was for me, my spouse and our five children. Have started collecting documents for our interview and we are very grateful for Britsimon that we are able to keep track of this once in a lifetime opportunity.
September 16, 2016 at 04:54
can you explain this question, please ? and how long petition take ?
My child will turn 21 years old soon – Children generally must be unmarried and under age 21 to qualify as derivative applicants. Also, they generally must use their visas to enter the United States while still under age 21.
If you have a child who will be turning 21 soon, you should immediately contact the U.S. Embassy or Consulate where your interview is scheduled. The U.S. Embassy or Consulate will determine whether an earlier appointment is needed. If your child no longer qualifies to immigrate with you based on age, then a separate petition must be filed for the child after you immigrate. There may be a significant delay before your child becomes qualified for a visa
September 16, 2016 at 05:05
This explains.
https://britsimonsays.com/child-turn-21-can-heshe-get-visa/
September 16, 2016 at 05:12
i read it but this from travel-state and they say that if he no longer qulifies then seperate petition must be filed ?
how long time it take to make him come to us ?
September 16, 2016 at 05:15
Over 6 years.
September 16, 2016 at 05:22
are you sure because more people tell me if he not qulified because his age it just take about 3 monthes to fill petiton and his parent return to take him and travel
September 16, 2016 at 05:41
I assume you are a DV selectee with a child about to turn 21. As my article explains, children turning 21 have some additional time after the age of 21. That is explained in the link that you said you read.
However – if it gets to the point where you (as a Green Card holder) have to sponsor an unmarried child over the age of 21, then that case would be in the F2B category – which is currently taking 6 years.
September 16, 2016 at 05:28
And iam from the second draw selectes so what about calculation because in the law thay say the period between start the application and when they notify the selectes ?
September 16, 2016 at 05:49
Your letter is dated in May. However, you could try and make an argument that the grace period is extended. I cannot predict the outcome, but given that your interview will be toward the end of the year, I suspect that would simply run out of time.
September 16, 2016 at 05:56
If this time extended he will be qualified
So what should i do now ,wait for the interview time and discuss this with co
Or should go to embassy now and told them my case ?!
September 16, 2016 at 05:57
THere is no point you going there now. The embassy know nothing about you until KCC schedule your case.
September 16, 2016 at 18:30
Sorry for disturb
Could you explain this to me?
I would like my spouse and/or children to follow me to the United States after I immigrate. Can they do that? – Yes, but remember that all diversity visas for a fiscal year must be issued by September 30. Available visas for some countries and regions may be used up prior to that date. If your spouse and children delay obtaining their visas, they may lose their opportunity to immigrate on the basis of their DV applications. If this happens, you will need to file a petition to bring your family to the United States at a later date. If they do not obtain diversity visas prior to September 30, your spouse and/or children may have to wait several years to join you.
September 16, 2016 at 20:52
Explain what? What don’t you understand?
September 16, 2016 at 20:57
I understand from this if my child failed to take visa i can immigrate and fill petetion and he will come before 30 sept 2017 if i failed to fill it before 30 sept he must wait several years !!!
September 16, 2016 at 22:25
We have already discussed this. Your child is going to age out around 200 days after he/she turns 21. If you do not get approval by then, you will not be able to bring the child and yes, it will take years to sponsor the child – exactly as I have already told you.
September 16, 2016 at 15:47
Hi Simon.
Is there a possibility that this year’s 2nd draw has more than 10,000 new selectees?
September 16, 2016 at 22:19
Yes
September 16, 2016 at 23:22
Thanks for your answer.
It has happened before o is it the first time?
I really don’t know what to expect.
Thanks again Simon.
September 17, 2016 at 00:24
YES. It has happened before. It happens when the 1st draw was kept to a deliberately low number of selectees – they then top it up.
September 17, 2016 at 08:09
Hi Brit, my name is John B Flomo I am one of the selectees for the 2017 dv lottery. I write to inquired from you as to whether I could be denied a visa base on the fact that two years ago my uncle who and I have identical name was denied a visa for the 2015dv lottery.
September 17, 2016 at 14:18
You have asked this same question about the previous spouse with the same name. Then you asked the same name question in a different way. I answered both of those questions, but now you are asking the same question about your uncle. Is everyone in your country named John B Flomo?
Right now, because of your questions – I don’t trust you. I think you are lying and wasting my time. You are obviously constructing some story and working out various versions by asking me questions. Now, the COs are not stupid people. And they too will assume you are lying and wasting their time. Your lack of candor is the most likely thing to get you refused.

Dear Brit,
1-Shall I ask KCC to unlock my DS-260 if I change my address after submitting DS-260 or explain this to the consular druring the interview?
2-Can I apply for DV 2018 if I’m selected in DV-2017 but not sure if my CN will get current?
September 17, 2016 at 14:09
1. Unlocking is normally better.
2. Yes
USE REPLY so I don’t have to search for the previous question you are following on from!
September 19, 2016 at 09:09
Thank you Brit. I’ll use reply fom now on.

Hi Brit,
We could apply for green card and showed up at the US border and finalized the immigration process for my wife and I. We stayed two days in Boston and got back to Canada to attend our school. We will graduate in one year and then will apply for job in US and move there accordingly. What do you advise not to loose our green cards during this one year outside the US?
Regards, Iraj

Enter the USA for a visit.
September 24, 2016 at 04:38

Could be just one visit for 2 days during this year?

take my sponsor to fill and send me the form and supportive document??
2. should I tell my sponsor to prepare it now or I should wait until I’m notified my

Thank you

When you are leaving a comment on a post, there are two checkboxes. One is “notify me of new comments via email”, the other is “notify me of new posts via email”. Make sure they are both selected. You can also “SUBSCRIBE TO BLOG VIA EMAIL” in the page above (look to the right hand column).

Hi brit.. I am a winner in 2nd draw. My CN is 2017OC..14xx..submitted ds260 on Sept 16th..what’s the chance of getting interview date at the earliest, say this year or next year?
October 2, 2016 at 14:47
It won’t be this year. Maybe June or July. We will know better later, but really, wait and see is the best answer.
October 15, 2016 at 11:57
Hi Brit,
Do KCC email every applicants after the release of a batch of winners? Coz I’m surprised how some people are saying they received an email notification from KCC when the result were out. I have friends that never received such emails.
October 15, 2016 at 14:25
No. I think they email the “top” ranked entries – some of whom will be winners.
October 16, 2016 at 16:03
Hi.Mr.BritSimon,
My wife has been selected. Her case number is 2017AS000067XX. We submited ds 260 . How does the KCC notify us the interview. By email or regular mail?
October 16, 2016 at 16:09
email. You won’t be notified for months yet.
October 17, 2016 at 03:59
Do they publish the numbers from each country regarding the additional selection from second draw?
October 17, 2016 at 19:14
No.
October 17, 2016 at 21:44
Hello brit
I a 2017 dv selectee (2nd draw). My case number is AF 32xxx (egypt). My question is:
1. how come there is case numbers for higher than my cn although you said that 2nd draw numbers are the next ranked bumber after the 1st draw number?
2. does this mean that i have to wait for my interview after all cases from the 1st draw even if my number gets current?
October 17, 2016 at 21:48
1. I have explained that before.
2. You have to wait until the Egypt number on the VB is higher than your number (or the Egypt limit is removed and AF region is higher than your number).
October 17, 2016 at 21:59
Would you please send me the link where you answered this question. I can not find it
October 21, 2016 at 13:16

Hello Brit,
I was selected at the second draw.
My CN is 2017EU00026xxx, is it a safe number for the interview or not?
Thank you very much
October 18, 2016 at 14:35
Safe.
October 19, 2016 at 17:36
Hello , please i have question
When i submit my ds 260 i was not have passport so i must reopen it again to add passport info ?
Or take it in my interview ?
October 19, 2016 at 19:04
Either way works. An accurate DS260 is always better.
October 20, 2016 at 14:14
ok thanks ,
but if i re-open my ds-260 my interview wil be delayed so
i will take it in my intervew, does it may cause any problem for me while the interview ?
October 20, 2016 at 16:51
Re-opening a DS260 doesn’t always cause a delay.
But a delay is better than denial.
October 20, 2016 at 07:03
Brit,
Thank you for your valuable information and prompt reply to everyone! I would like to know that whether everyone who selected for the 2nd draw of DV2017 received email to check the entry again?
October 20, 2016 at 17:40
I haven’t asked them all – but all those 2nd draw winners that I know of received the email.
October 21, 2016 at 01:51
Thanks Brit. DV2018 Instruction says a new requirement about photo. Do you know how and can KCC check the following: “Submitting the same photograph that was submitted with last year’s entry (DV-2017) will result in disqualification”. As I know clearly that my friend won a green card lottery in 2012 with photo used for 4 years in previous lotteries.
October 21, 2016 at 02:57
That instruction is new wording. They have the technology now to compare images – similar to a google image search. So – follow the instructions!
October 21, 2016 at 03:23
Thank you so much!
October 21, 2016 at 09:08
What if you use the same shirt taking a photo like the one you use in the last dv application
October 21, 2016 at 14:54
That is OK.
October 21, 2016 at 15:35
Hi Brit
I wish to ask why 2 draw selectees are havx numbers w few digit example from (30000)
While some first draw selectees are (41000)
How will this affect 1st draw winners
Just to clear my doubt sir
Thks
October 21, 2016 at 15:41
Because some countries are limited during the draw and therefore their numbers from the first draw ended early. For the second draw, those countries started from where the 1st draw ended.

Brit Hi, I’m selected in the second draw, I’m sa00014xx, fill my Ds 260, my questions are
1- On the question of vaccines I answered yes because I thought that as you go to the interview with the medical checkup by their laws and now I see their tips are very useful for certain that should answer no and In the box explanation saying “I will get vaccinations as necessary”. I ask unlock my ds 260 for that mistake
2- It is a very high number mine, according to their experience when it could be an interview with this number.
Thank you very much for your advice
October 25, 2016 at 18:48
1. No need to unlock for that.
2. Next summer – wait and see.

Dear Simon,
My brother and his family got their DV stamped on their passport. They are planning to Travel February 20th next month.
Now there are very much Concerned as they are Libyan citizens, from what Trump said recently.
Do you have any idea if the American Immigration will allow them in USA?
Or since they have the Green Card already won’t cause them any problem?
Could you advise your opponents?
Nader
