DV-2017 dates revealed
In true bumbling form, Department of State has managed to trip over their own shoelaces again in announcing the DV lottery DV2017 and they have revealed the DV-2017 dates by mistake.
The DV-2017 dates have not been officially announced (it should come from DoS), but the Egyptian US embassy has put the announcement up early. This makes me chuckle.
So – the dates (when they are officially announced will be:-
Online registration for the DV 2017 Program will begin on Thursday, October 1, 2015 at 12:00 noon, Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) (GMT-4), and conclude on TUESDAY, November 3, 2015 at 12:00 noon, Eastern Daylight Time (EST) (GMT-5).
Thank you Cairo embassy!
Don’t rush to enter, I will publish a video on how to complete the eDV – but that won’t be available until after entry has opened (as I want to capture the latest entry form). So – tell your friends to wait for that and you can enter on from the Friday. The date of entry has NO impact on chances of winning…

September 26, 2015 at 15:58

September 28, 2015 at 17:53

September 28, 2015 at 17:56
Yes, no impact at all.

September 27, 2015 at 01:04
Hi Brit,
I am a winner of the 2016 DV program, but I have a serious concern, at the time I was playing the DV there was an error made by the fellow who fill out my form in the Cafe, instill of he choosing High School degree, he then choose University degree. My question are:
Should I fill out my DS-260 form out with my correct education level?
If I correct the mistake while filling out the DS-260 form will it not be a problem for me during my interview?
please help me I am afraid because a friend of my told me that during my interview I will be answering questions from information you provided on your original form.
September 27, 2015 at 14:42
Your DS260 must have the correct information. If that is the case you will be fine.
September 27, 2015 at 08:49
I have to say I am a little bit incredulous re Cairo announcement. This rather seems to be based on previous year’s experience and dates, although it might be true. I guess I would wait for the official announcement.
September 27, 2015 at 14:29
2 embassies now….
September 27, 2015 at 09:22
Thanks Bret,
This is also Qatar embassy announcement for DV 2017
http://qatar.usembassy.gov/dvgcl.html
Question: im a DV2016 winner and still waiting my NL2, should i apply to DV2017 or this will effect my current application ?
September 27, 2015 at 14:28
Thanks. You can apply for DV2017 with no problem.

September 27, 2015 at 16:19
Hi simon do you know if 2NLs for november interviews have been sent out yet?
September 27, 2015 at 17:16
No they have not.
September 28, 2015 at 09:03
eagerly waiting for 2NL but not yet received. DS-260 submitted on june 9. Earlier 2NL was issued on 25th i think but this month still in queue. why?
September 28, 2015 at 13:43
2NLs have not yet been sent – they will be sent before the end of the month – relax.
September 28, 2015 at 13:19
We are all waiting eagerly though submitted late July.
September 28, 2015 at 13:37
I doubt you will get a November interview in that case.
September 28, 2015 at 13:29
hi Simon, does the sending of 2NL depend on case number or rather on the time the time the DS-260 was submitted
September 28, 2015 at 13:37
Both. No case can get the 2NL unless the case is current BUT the DS260 must be processed (which takes about 3 months)
September 28, 2015 at 13:42
thanks Simon.
September 28, 2015 at 13:46
I am AF40XXX, submitted my DS-260 on the 7th of June, should i expect the 2NL any time soon or need to wait more longer
September 28, 2015 at 14:01
Your number means you will wait until next summer.
September 28, 2015 at 14:58
Hi Simon, sorry I couldn’t find my respond on my case. I don’t know if the request went through. I won the Dv 2016 and my case number is 2016AF0000065x.. I submitted my Dv260 last week because I wasn’t aware that I won. Please wish to know if my case is safe due to the time I did summitted. When can I expect the second email and my visa appointment.
Please sir, look forward for your respond.
September 28, 2015 at 15:03
I keep answering…. you should read the responses you get!
Safe number but you will wait a few months while they process your form.
September 28, 2015 at 15:51
hi Brit,
how long does it take after the 2nl to the interview date?
September 28, 2015 at 16:18
at least 1 month – usually longer.
September 28, 2015 at 16:35
Hi Brit
Please share the information received 2NL for November interview.
Thank you.
September 28, 2015 at 17:25
No one has received a 2NL for November yet.
September 28, 2015 at 16:59
Hi Simon, I already got selected for the DV2016, if I submit DV2017, will it effect my greencard interview for DV2016? Will they disqualify me if I submit for DV2017 while waiting for my DV2016 interview?

September 28, 2015 at 19:52
No – that problem does not represent anything now – the issue was resolved…
September 28, 2015 at 23:02
Hello to your family from Macedonia (the country of origin of Alexander The Great and Mother Teresa),
Last year, there were 33.000 selected entrants from the EU region, this year 2016 there’re 19.000. Is it safe to assume that in year 2016 there’s a higher chance of reaching the higher CNs? From what I understood, it mainly depends on the response rate of the lower CNs and how the selected entrants are distributed among them (i.e the gaps among CNs). Does this make any sense or am I writing nonsense? 🙂
September 29, 2015 at 00:20
There is a bit of nonsense I there, yes.
First, DV2015 had 40000 EU selectees and that has reduced to 27000 in DV2016. I don’t know where you got your numbers from.
Because there are less selectees, the highest case number will be lower. And, because of the reduction I believe all EU numbers will be called – i.e. the region will go current.
September 29, 2015 at 04:34
Dear Simon, Iam Current to Octpber, My case Number is 2016A20**.Iam Waiting for mail. I Summit my DS260 Form on 7June . Still 2NL letter not come. Why this happen ? Please helpme.

September 29, 2015 at 13:08
7th June was too late for the first interviews. You will get the 2NL today or tomorrow for a November interview.
September 29, 2015 at 06:39
Hey britsimon,do they consider those who were not called for interview or those who have failed interview?when selecting?
September 29, 2015 at 13:05
No – the draw is random – no preference for previous winners.
September 29, 2015 at 13:27
Hello Mr. Simon
My CN 2016AS10xx
I submitted on 20-May
Unlock twice ( 23-June 30-June) resubmitted immediately
Do you think I’ll have a November interview ?
In general, is there any explanation about the delaying in sending 2NLs for November interviews ?
Thank You
September 29, 2015 at 14:06
if i am a winner of 2016, but am not sure about the safety of case numbr etc., can I (or my spouse) participate again?
September 29, 2015 at 16:32
Yes. No problem.
September 29, 2015 at 18:32
Any notice for 2NL?
September 29, 2015 at 18:45
No.
September 29, 2015 at 21:12
Hey Simon,
I have 2 question please :
1) I currently have short / med hair length which cover up my forehead a little? is that gonna be a problem for the dv photo i need to upload?
also about the fact that i have short bread (not cause of a relgion causes), i better shave it before i take my photo?
2) I took a about 5 courses in a college before i stopped my studies there, should i pick the “a few university courses” option in the current education level? or my high school equivalent level?
Sry if my questions sounds a little stupid, i just want to be 100% ready.
Thanks in advance!!
September 29, 2015 at 21:39
1. No issue either way.
2. Yes – some university is fine. It does not affect your chances of selection.
September 30, 2015 at 04:44
hi brit,
if i submit DS260 in late October when will i have interview? my case number is AS0005***
September 30, 2015 at 04:51
Probably around April.
September 30, 2015 at 05:01
thanks you so it doesn’t matter if i submit it late, it depend on my case number right?
September 30, 2015 at 05:13
The most important thing is case number. Early submission cannot accelerate interview for a high case number but late submission can delay the interview for a low case number.

Please let me know, my son has an Egyptian citizen but he was born in Saudi.Which country he may use to enter Lottery, knowing that his birth certificate / passport both are issuing from Egypt and certify his birth country is in Saudi.
September 30, 2015 at 20:04
The rules point out the birth country is what is important. Not citizenship.
September 30, 2015 at 20:10
Hi BritSimon,
In this case my son has to use his country of birth to enter the lottery although his all official documents, passport and birth certificates are issued from Egypt.
September 30, 2015 at 20:26
Hi BritSimon,
In this case my son has to use his country of birth to enter the lottery although his all official documents, passport and birth certificates are issued from Egypt. Also his parents are Egyptians.
September 30, 2015 at 20:56
Yes – country of birth (as shown on his birth certificate). So – if his Egyptian birth cert lists Saudi as his place of birth, then he will apply charging to SA.
September 30, 2015 at 21:10
Many thanks BritSimon for your clarification.Other son was born also in Saudi but still under 21, will he be dependent to his parents Nationality, e.g. Egyption.
September 30, 2015 at 22:55
I keep saying country of birth. I keep saying nationality is unimportant. You keep talking about nationality. One last time. Nationality is unimportant.
For a child listed as a dependent on YOUR entry, he will be charged to you country of birth.

Hi Brit,
I am a bit worry about my case, I submitted my DS-260 complete form on July 4, 2015, i am now current, my case number is AF115xx I was expecting my second letter now but not receive any letter yet, I have check on the ECS website all most every one hour.
Will have interview in November?
Can I call asking why not receive my letter yet?
Can you assume when I will sit interview?
please advice me on what to do, because i am getting worry.
October 1, 2015 at 03:50
It is very silly to worry about this. If you had read my posts you would see that no one in July got processed in time so you will be in December.
October 1, 2015 at 03:42
Yes ,many thanks for your clarification and sincere help.
October 2, 2015 at 00:53
Hi Brit – has there been a delay with the release as when I click the link (https://www.dvlottery.state.gov/) I only see information for DV16 and DV15.
October 2, 2015 at 03:49
Lots of people are entering already.
October 2, 2015 at 10:16
Use Internet Explorer – I tried using Chrome and got the exact same information you got. As soon as I load it in IE, I get this years entry details.
October 2, 2015 at 14:54
I get 2017 with Chrome, Firefox Edge and IE.
October 2, 2015 at 13:29
Hi All,
I can not enter either. All I can click is Enter the 2015 and 2016 entry.
Is there another link I can apply?
Pls help

October 3, 2015 at 22:53
I have changed my name and date of birth. I have the new information in my passport and university certificate. I only have my old name and old date of birth on my secondary school certificate. I am planning to enter the DV 2017. Can these changes cause any problem if i am selected?
October 4, 2015 at 04:06
You have changed your date of birth???
Yes I think that could present a problem….
October 8, 2015 at 18:58
Hi. I am a 2016 DV lottery winner. I have a problem please help me to clearfy my doubt. My name is Alieu but my name was misspelled while entering into the lottery by the fellow at the Internet Cafe who sent in my information. The name was spelled ALIUE INSTEAD OF ALIEU. However I filled out my DS260 form with the correct spelling. My biggest concern is whether this mistake will not cause any problem for me at my visa interview? Please help me out.
October 8, 2015 at 19:32
At some embassies particularly with other mistakes this could be a problem. However, correcting the error in the DS260 was the right thing to do and most embassies would be OK with that.
October 9, 2015 at 07:48
Hi BritSimon,
Regarding the personnel photos which they have requested to be be attached to the application,is it strictly insisted to be taken since past six(6) months time of application submission date?
October 9, 2015 at 16:02
That is the instruction – it is up to you if you want to disregard the instruction.
October 9, 2015 at 21:48
Hi Birt. I am a winner of the 2016 DV lottery. I play the lottery with my wife but unfortunately i lost her to the cool hands of death. Now, l check the result and I am a winner, I am marriage again. Can I add my new wife to the program in place of my dead wife. Losene_Liberia. Thanks for the help.
October 9, 2015 at 22:38

October 10, 2015 at 21:47
