DV-2020 details will be officially published tomorrow. As has happened before, some embassies have “jumped the gun” and announced it early, and the unpublished notice is available through the federal register. So the details below are accurate and will be made official tomorrow (in the USA – so could be Wednesday in other parts of the world).
The registration period will open on October 3, and close on November 6. There are NO CHANGES to eligible countries from last year. The result checking period will start on May 7 next year.
I will publish some tips for entering over the next week – but for goodness sake ONLY enter through the official page and DO NOT let anyone enter your details for you!
Link to the federal register announcement.

Bad luck for us South Americans, Ecuador, Cuba and Venezuela will keep monopolizing our region. Well, let’s hope for better odds in the following years if Drumpf loses the midterm elections. Finger crossed.
September 24, 2018 at 21:44
Everyone in South America region has an IDENTICAL chance of selection. The countries you mention have more entries, so get more winners. People in your country are free to change that.

Correct.
September 25, 2018 at 06:39
Good Day Simon,
Can someone that is selected for further processing and has already submitted DS260 form apply in DV2020?
September 25, 2018 at 16:16
Yes
September 25, 2018 at 16:42
yes:)
September 25, 2018 at 06:55
Thanks Simon, I would really appreciate if you can share some tricks how to be successful, because I have been applying for almost 16 years with no result at all. Thanks in advance, Gesi.
September 25, 2018 at 16:27
In DV2018 there were 15 million entries which represented about 23 million people (with family members).
Out of those 15 million entries, about 60,000 entries are selected – meaning you have about 1 chance in 250 of being selected. You can only apply once a year, so on average you could expect to enter 250 years and only get picked once. Some people will get selected on their first try, some will NEVER be selected. So – the secret trick is, follow the rules and keep trying…
September 25, 2018 at 08:32
Due to retrogresive of africa come 2020 i will be a winner
September 25, 2018 at 08:39
I won the DV 2019 and my case number is AF43xxx, can I still play the DV2020..
September 25, 2018 at 11:26
Yes you can
September 25, 2018 at 12:10
No one seems to respond to my question what the highest case number for AF region is(even Brit). I assume yours is the highest until I hear another one.
September 25, 2018 at 18:33
Yes
September 25, 2018 at 09:21
Mr.Britt , i would like to change interview location, should i Do it now or later january wait for the data? AS105**
because the website is down now, so i cant open my ds260 anyway
September 25, 2018 at 20:06
You can wait – your number won’t be ready until summer 2019.
September 25, 2018 at 10:12
Is there similar bad chance lika dv2018 from Africa case 43×××, i was a winner but till now i m in a bad situation and till am ungry.
September 25, 2018 at 20:10
Selection for further processing does not guarantee a Green Card. That is the rule, and it won’t change. If you are not OK with that understanding, don’t participate in the lottery.
September 25, 2018 at 10:38
Hi Brit,
Did went through the interview as a winner of 2018, and at the end I was given a 221 (g) to follow the instructions which I have already done and submitted the questions answers via email.
My case is currently undergoing necessary administrative processing, I just checked it out.
Questions:
1. Will I receive my visa before September 30?
2. What become of my case if I don’t receive visa September 30?
September 25, 2018 at 11:38
Hello John,
Simon will probably reply to you but common sense here is more accurate than any other answer you may have.
1. There is still time, you may get your visa but how can Simon know?. Just wait and see.
2. This type of question has been asked and answered many times and has been stated in the FAQ. NO VISA AFTER 30 SEPTEMBER.
September 25, 2018 at 20:15
1. I don’t know.
2. You would not get a visa.
September 25, 2018 at 11:37
Hello SImon
I am sorry if this question has been already asked, but I really want to know this: I was selected for DV2019 with a case number EU26XXX, which is pretty high I guess, but it doesn’t have to mean anything. Can I still apply for DV2020 without affecting the DV2019? I mean my number can get current somewhere in August next year, but if it doesn’t I just want to have Dv2020 as a back up? Can I apply, or is it better to wait till the DV2019 process finishes?
September 25, 2018 at 11:46
HELLO JACK;
Yes you can apply for dv 2020. And as you said this type of question has been asked many times and answered, I hope that others will refer to Simon response before asking the same question.
Personnally I did it and it didnt harm my chance.
Good lucky
September 25, 2018 at 20:16
Yes you can apply for DV2020. I have a GC already – even so – I could apply for DV2020.
September 25, 2018 at 14:05
This is my time , I’m full of hope I’ll win 2020 dv
September 25, 2018 at 14:13
We gut that in our hand
God helps i know thanks.
September 25, 2018 at 14:34
Can I participate again in 2018, but they rejected an administrative process due to lack of documents?
September 25, 2018 at 20:36
Yes
September 25, 2018 at 14:36
Can I apply alone and if I succeeded can I take my family with me
September 25, 2018 at 20:36
NO!
Only an idiot would lie on their entry. Really – have I not made this point clear enough yet?
September 25, 2018 at 15:50
I want to seek an advice,I was born in Nigeria and schooled to secondary level. my parents are from west Africa francophone nation while is eligible to apply.
Sir,advice me I want to apply for the dv2020 in Nigeria and do my interview in my parents place if I won. Tell what to put in place before applying to avoid difficulty in any way.
I really need your assistance urgently. I will be so glad to have you response back. Thanks for usual cooperation.
September 25, 2018 at 20:39
Ypu would have to prove that your parents were only in Nigeria temporarily. Since you stayed there for schooling and are still there now, that would seem to be difficult to say their stay was temporary.
September 25, 2018 at 15:50
Hey. I’m back 🙂
September 25, 2018 at 20:39
LOL. Good luck.
September 26, 2018 at 08:59
Hi Leo, nice to see you here again. Good luck^^
September 25, 2018 at 17:53
Hi Brit, please when is the second draw for Dv 2019 be out?
September 25, 2018 at 20:45
There may not be a second draw.
September 26, 2018 at 02:15
Hey Simon, I have a question I was born in UAE but my parents were born in Ethiopia and are currently residents there, can I use Ethiopia as my region for DV ? I think the answer to the question is nope because that way I benefit from another region but I am unsure so I am asking u.
I also appreciate your help with regards to the DV program and what not, I know this a stupid question but it’s better that I apply correctly, lest I win and everything goes down in vain.
September 26, 2018 at 02:17
Apply under UAE!
September 26, 2018 at 07:37
I won lottery dv2018

September 26, 2018 at 12:42

September 26, 2018 at 13:09
Yes
September 26, 2018 at 15:29
Good evening Mr. Brit! first of all I thank you for this commendable work.
I have a small question to ask you: I live with my fiancée and she just gave birth to a baby boy on September 09, 2018. I specify that we are not yet married. We want to participate in the American visa lottery. My wish is that we will play this separately to increase the chance of being selected one or the other. Maintemant my concern is this: what will it be for the child? Should we also make his picture and include it in the folder of his mother or what to do. Cordially !
September 26, 2018 at 15:47
You must BOTH include the child on your applications.
September 26, 2018 at 16:49
Please am 2019 dv selectee and have submitted my ds20 and waiting for my interview date also am pregnant will be expecting my unborn baby very soon please if the date come and I have given birth should I take the child to the embassy for the interview
September 26, 2018 at 18:21
Always check the FAQ.

September 27, 2018 at 11:40
Hello Brit Sir. If there is small letter mistake in name while entry of the derivatives. Will it cause problem to the principal applicant. Will it cause visa denial for the principal applicant or just derivatives.
September 27, 2018 at 12:37
if disqualification cause principal appliant it also cause derivates.
if it wasnt typo for multiple entries for the same applicant you should try to explain that, and probably will be OK.
If you made multiple entries they will 100% find out and you willbe disqualifed during interview.
September 27, 2018 at 13:07
sorry, I didnt read carefuly:) in your case there will not be a problem. write correct in ds260.
September 27, 2018 at 16:36
It won’t cause denial to anyone.
September 27, 2018 at 11:48
Hello Brit,
As a Palestinian having only “Syrian Travel Document” born in Damascus-Syria, am I eligible to register for DV-2020?
Thanks
September 27, 2018 at 16:43
Anyone can register. IF YOU ARE SELECTED, you would register under the place of birth and would be expected to provide proof of that place of birth.
October 1, 2018 at 05:52
OK, depending on that and my place of Birth “Damascus-Syria”. would I be eligible to continue the process if were selected? I mean will it be affected by the travel ban.
October 1, 2018 at 13:50
If the ban continues, you will be affected.
September 27, 2018 at 14:54
Please I want to make some corrections on my ds260 and now that they will be scheduling our interview date next month please if I unlocked my ds260 to make the corrections won’t that cause a problem for me please I need your advise ..
September 27, 2018 at 16:47
Unlocking doesn’t cause delay. Incorrect information can cause denial. So – the choice is obvious.
September 27, 2018 at 15:25
Please if I give birth any moment from now and my interview date has not yet been schedule and I unlocked my ds260 to add the baby please won’t that cause delay for the interview
September 27, 2018 at 16:47
Stop worrying about delay!!!!
September 27, 2018 at 17:14
Hi Britt, will 2020 go current?
September 27, 2018 at 18:18
That is a joke – right?
September 27, 2018 at 17:47

September 28, 2018 at 20:03
Hi I am from Northern Ireland and passed my GCSE’S (which is 12 yrs in education) it says a high school diploma takes 12 yrs of education to get, But seen people say GCSE’S do not count as a equivalent of a school diploma.
After I finished my gcses I was 16yrs old I went to college (the college was called north west regional college). In America it’s called Vocational School I believe? I did this and got a qualification in carpentry this took 2 years so I am now 18. Do you know if i qualify as I think if you have the equivalent of Vocational School u do. Thanks
September 28, 2018 at 20:30
No, I do not think you would be qualified. The High school graduate level in the USA means the point where they can get in to “college” (meaning University). You would need A levels to get in to Uni in the British system, so that means education until the age of 18.
Vocational education is not considered toward the educational requirements.
September 28, 2018 at 22:28
Thanks anyways. I read that I could get in under my mum as I am under age of 21. Though my other siblings don’t want to move across to America. Could I get in using her? And at the end of the process if she won does she have to end up coming to america if she decides not to go will it effect my visa in getting in? She said if it does she will move across with me for a few years.
(she does qualify for the dvlottery)
Sorry for the questions!
September 28, 2018 at 22:36
You can get in as her derivative. If she wins and succeeds, she would have to enter with you, but then she could immediately leave and not affect your status.
September 28, 2018 at 23:07
thanks 🙂
September 28, 2018 at 22:22
Is it a problem to mention that you hold two nationalities in the DS-260 form?

Hello Simon.
Please, What is the chance for being selected for Slovakia? In one of your comments you mentioned that in general the chance is 1 in 250 but Slovakia is small country so I guess the chance is much higher ?
Thank you so much
October 1, 2018 at 03:52
No, the chance is the same for all countries in a region.
October 1, 2018 at 08:20
Hello Brit Sir.
Does the entry of EDV form by me as a principal applicant at once and then my wife as a principal applicant in another form and my son in another single entry( as he has completed the form requirement) regarded as a multiple entry or not?
2 Family Based (husband as principal applicant) and (wife as principal applicant) and one single entry.
October 1, 2018 at 13:54
No
October 3, 2018 at 19:55
Hello Mr BRITSIMON,
I wanted to come back to this question because I did not understand well. Can married couples play separately or only one of them must play.
For me last year I played for both of us but first for me as lead applicant and after for him as lead applicant and on every form I involved our son.
Is disqualifying?
October 3, 2018 at 21:54
Point 12.
https://britsimonsays.com/dv2020-registration-period-begins/
October 4, 2018 at 20:09
So a married couple can play twice. The husband adds his wife and the wife adds the husband. It’s two chances to win.
October 4, 2018 at 20:20
Yes. One entry per person.
October 4, 2018 at 20:27
I was born in Senegal and him in Guinée. Is a problem ?
October 4, 2018 at 20:51
No.
October 1, 2018 at 10:48
I AM VERY HAPPYTO HAVE KNOWN THE GROUP
THANK U BRIT
October 1, 2018 at 18:41
Can I play single and than play married later?
October 1, 2018 at 20:19
You enter one time per year, per person. You enter the correct marital status.
October 2, 2018 at 08:11
Please I want to ask, my husband is from Cameroon but am from Nigeria and will both live in Nigeria can both of us apply
October 2, 2018 at 14:04
If your husband was BORN in Cameroon, you can both apply charging to his country of birth. In your case you list Nigeria as place of birth, and Cameroon as place of Chargeability.
October 2, 2018 at 14:05
What’s da link I can use to enter dv 2020
October 2, 2018 at 19:32
Why do they require a photo of a spouse from an applicant who is separated? If you cannot obtain a photo, what do you do?
October 2, 2018 at 20:15
If you are LEGALLY separated, you do not have to enter the spouses details or photo. If you just mean you don’t have contact with your spouse but are still married, you may not be able to enter the lottery.
October 3, 2018 at 04:55
Dear Brit,
My winning number for DV2019 is AS4XXX. I feel doubt whether my number will arrive or current in the year throughout process. Can I apply for 2020 programme? Will it affect for my processing data for DV 2019?
