Hi Simon
I have a doubt.
In the registration for the dvlottery, I did not pass my photo through the photo tool program.
Could it be a reason for me to be disqualified?
I went to a studio to have my picture taken. He had all the requisites and measures that they demanded.
When I entered the photo, the page did not reject me and they sent me my confirmation code
December 11, 2017 at 17:00
It is not obligatory to use the photo tool – so relax.
December 19, 2017 at 08:48
Please Simon when they write current that does that mean

Ok so if I win the lottery will I be allowed to stay in any state in the U.S or is there a specific state I should be in ? Would they guide me to choose a place to rent or will they be like here is your acceptance now you are on your own?
December 24, 2017 at 20:41
You are on your own and can live where you like.

Hi there, Very imformative website. On the instructions when filling out the DS-260 form you said passport and birth certificates for you and family members… What is i am the only one why is moving? do i still need their passport and birth certificates? is it for some proof? Also when checking the the results in May, if it says further processing is the first step to go to https://ceac.state.gov/IV/Login.aspx and enter the case number? is this the correct website? Will this show me where to pay the fees and submit to Kentucky?
Thanks in advance.
January 19, 2018 at 05:15
If i don’t fill out the Service Military form after submitting my DS-260 will this effect the whole process of it being approved? I’ve never heard of this?
January 19, 2018 at 06:32
You fill it out once you have entered the USA as an LPR
January 19, 2018 at 06:34
Follow the guide and use your common sense. You only show docs for family members if they are moving too. You pay fees at the embassy on interview day.
January 22, 2018 at 17:03
Hi Simmons. The SSN of the group arrive together? I ask cause today we got my wife SSN and not mine. Is it normal? My SSN is coming on?
January 22, 2018 at 17:08
They are different applications – so may arrive separately.
January 28, 2018 at 15:05
Hi Brit
I am scheduled for the 6th of March
Do I really need a bank statement?
A dv winner
January 28, 2018 at 15:09
It varies by embassy.
February 7, 2018 at 06:23
Hi sir, is it normal to have not received any notification or mail till now since you fill the kcc 260 form in August when you where randomly selected?

Hi. I am scheduled for interview for the 24 of April. Do I need an affidavit of support? The person who was supposed to sign mine refused it’s not needed and I am worried
February 2, 2018 at 21:41
Thank you for great advice. After applying for the past 9 years I won the lottery this year. We will be traveling to US in April but will not be staying there as my daughter just started a 4 year degree in our country and my son has 4 years of schooling left. The minute they are finished we will leave. When I applied I was told by USAFIS I will have at least 4 years before we have to immigrate therefore I was not worried but reading all the articles it says it may be revoked. what should I do to get an extension. we do not want to lose out on this opportunity but I also know that moving good scholars in the middle of schooling could be a disaster. As the winning party I will be starting up a business in US but will be commuting especially until my minor completes school. Can I do this. Please help.
February 2, 2018 at 22:20
No – you can’t get an extension for 4 years. You could try and keep your LPR status by frequent visits to the USA, or you could apply for a re-entry permit (2 years). But realistically you should consider how to relocate the children to complete their education in the USA. A USA education will be more readily accepted in the USA in any case.
February 4, 2018 at 06:53
Thanks for coming back to me- to keep up the LPR status for the family would all 4 have to travel to US or could only I travel each year whilst setting up the business. I am the lottery winner to
February 4, 2018 at 14:39
Each person would have to travel.
February 4, 2018 at 15:51
My number is 3267#africa you told me couple months to be current can this be in June or July
February 4, 2018 at 17:12
You really need to stop asking me this same question every few days. Patience!
February 6, 2018 at 11:30
Hi there, just wondering If I was selected for further processing where and how do I submit the filing fees for DS260 on the ceas state website? Do I send American Cash in the envelope or is all of this submitted online?
Thanks in advance.
February 6, 2018 at 14:23
You pay the interview fee on the day of the interview at the embassy. You don’t pay a DS260 filing fee.
February 6, 2018 at 23:25
Thanks! Are you able to list the applications that I need to file after the DS260 (if approved)? Are there only 2 more? I’m confused why they say fill out and submit filing fees…And am I meant to fill out a i693 before seeing a panel physician?
February 6, 2018 at 23:38
Are you adjusting status in the USA? Or are you processing abroad?
February 7, 2018 at 02:36
I actually have not won yet but in regards to my question (processing abroad)I just want to know the correct steps so I’m not stressing when the time comes! I have a strong feeling this is my lucky year. I just wanted to know what other applications after filing the DS260 are involved & is it worth opening an American bank account in Australia to pay the fees at the embassy in American dollars?
February 7, 2018 at 02:58
There are about 25 million entrants and 100k selectees. I answer questions from people who are selected.
February 6, 2018 at 12:33
Hello Simon, I was selected for the process of DV2018, my husband, children and I have dual citizenship (Venezuelan by birth and Spanish transmitted by parents).
We already have all the documents for our next interview to be next week, however in terms of Spanish documents I have only passports. We have never lived in Spain. I have read that you can ask for the criminal record certificate from Spain but from Venezuela I can not process this document.
Is it a mandatory document?
Do you think that by that document we can be denied a visa?
February 6, 2018 at 14:27
You should not need a police cert for a country you never visited. However, it is possible the embassy apply some bizarre procedure – so all you can do is wait and see what they ask. You don’t need to present the Spanish passport unless the CO asks.
February 6, 2018 at 17:23
I am in the same situation. Last week the consular officer ask for criminal record from both countries at two different person one from Venezuela/colombia and the other one was venezuela/italy.
February 7, 2018 at 03:17
Reading all these about *Dual Citizenship* got me worried as well since I’m in the same situation, as Julia described never lived/visited the other country but got only passport from the embassy of that country.
My question is: Can they ask for police cer from the second country even If Im not the MAIN APPLICANT?
Thank you so much Brit, the DV family really love you and appreciate the work you do for all us.
February 7, 2018 at 05:12
They can ask for anything they want.
February 7, 2018 at 14:29

34640 I’m on the list What do you think will I have to go to the interview if this is going on? Or what can I do?
February 13, 2018 at 17:30
You have to wait.
February 13, 2018 at 21:59
Hi sir,
Have bulletin for any month rich Ana number above?
February 13, 2018 at 22:05
Huh?
February 27, 2018 at 14:54
I am currently a TPS holder from Nepal and it is valid through 24 June 2018. I need to write a sponsorship letter to my friend. I am a government employee, but without Green card. Is it wise for me to write that letter? will the CO question the interviewee that the sponsor might not be able to support because I do not have much time as a legal immigrant? What should i do?
February 27, 2018 at 15:24
I only advise on DV cases.
February 28, 2018 at 00:30
Hi sir
I tried editing my dv-260 form but it was not going is there any other format of editing it sir? Secondly my mother is still a life but I does not know her date of birth, is they a problem in leaving the space blank as I do not know sir?
February 28, 2018 at 00:47
If your DS260 is locked you have to ask KCC to unlock it to be able to edit it. Read the FAQ on how to unlock.
Estimate it.
February 28, 2018 at 01:01
Then again sir from somebody interview experience she shared, the question why was she frequently visiting her dv form was ask, those that mean anytime you visit your form they know of it?
February 28, 2018 at 04:02
Yes – but accuracy is the most important thing.
February 28, 2018 at 01:17
Which link do I used in opening the FAQ to read the instructions sir?
February 28, 2018 at 04:03
The link for the FAQ is at the top of each page.
March 4, 2018 at 20:35
Hi sir,
After filling and submitting my dv260 online registration, I realized that I made some mistakes. After some time, I tried opening my form to edit but I am unable to access my form. I wrote to kcc pleading with kcc to unlock my form so that I can’t edit. Kcc replied me quite alright but the didn’t tell me If editing is possible or not. Sir is there any other way I can use in editing my form? Please help me as so worried.
March 4, 2018 at 21:59
Once your form is unlocked you can edit it. It can take a couple of weeks for the form to be unlocked.
March 6, 2018 at 04:10
Dear Simon,
Please i need your help regarding q: were you previously employed?
I been to USA 20 years ago, i didn’t have a working permit or social security number.
I had to work for some time to pay the rent
(that was illegal to do that)
I don’t remember the names or the exact date when i worked or even the address of that business.
What should i do?
Will it be a problem if i didn’t mention that?
March 6, 2018 at 04:21
Just tell the truth. Really.
March 6, 2018 at 09:43
Thank you for replying,
Do i have to unlock my DS-260 to add that info?
Or i can tell the CO about it during the interview?
P.S. I will try to google that business exact name and address,
March 6, 2018 at 10:09
Hi Brit,
I applied for DV-2019, and although there’s still a possibility of it being cancelled or not getting selected I do have one question.
I’m from South Africa and I rewrote my 12th grade Mathematics exam to move it from a D level of which it is now at B level. However, my old math mark is on my National Senior Certificate and the new mark is on the government issued statement of results; of which the certification body (UMALUSI) refuses to combine on a new National Senior Certificate. However they will issue a separate subject certificate with only the new math mark on a later stage for me. If I am selected and I proceed with the interview, would the CO be fine with me presenting my National Senior Certificate along with the new math mark on the other document (the government issued statement of results or would I be denied the visa?
Thank you
March 6, 2018 at 14:37
It’s a lottery with a tiny chance of selection. I answer questions from selectees.
March 6, 2018 at 15:29
Dear Simon,
What about my question?
Is it important to unlock my DS-260 just to mention that i worked in a pizza store for a couple of months 20 years ago?
The question is : were you previously employed?
Employed means that i should have social security number
Since i didn’t have one so i wasn’t employed
What do you think?
March 6, 2018 at 15:35
You can use your own judgement.
March 6, 2018 at 19:40
Dear Simon
Yesterday we got an interview date of April 4th. I’m British and my Husband is Japanese. He (mostly) grew up in Japan and then lived 10+ years in America. I lived in Japan for 6 years, 10 years ago. Anyway, it seems we need police certificates from both the UK (no problem) and Japan. According to the Japanese embassy website in London it takes 2 months to get the police certificates. What should we do?
March 6, 2018 at 20:07
Apply immediately!
If the police cert is not available by the time of the interview, your case will be on hold (AP) until you provide the police cert.
March 13, 2018 at 14:49
Hi BritSimon ,
two things
1- there are some broken links in the presentation above , in the RTFM 😉 !! section
2- I live in one country (A), I will have my interview in “A” ,but lived many years in a previous country (B) and many of documents , birth certificates, education , police certificates comes from (B) what is the notarization I need to obtain from (B) on these original documents ? foreign affairs? US embassy in B ? do I also need foreign affairs attestation and US embassy in “A” also before the interview ?
March 13, 2018 at 15:43
1. Thanks – I’ll check when I get time
2. I don’t know country specifics – do your own research.
March 13, 2018 at 20:24
I did , none of them provides a clear answer
March 13, 2018 at 17:21
not sure I read this correctly, but the instruction here
https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/immigrate/diversity-visa-program-entry/diversity-visa-if-you-are-selected/diversity-visa-prepare-supporting-documents.html
states : original documents or certified copies of the documents
March 15, 2018 at 11:57
Good morning please I have some worries and will really need your help am a dv winner 2018 from Cameroon I went for interview when interview was barely 5months old in China so my case was placed on AP and the consulate told me that when am 6months I should get am noncriminal record and submit before my visa is printed. I returned from my interview lost my job few days later by December so I told my forder institution about the noncriminal record because they had to assist me get the document the man claimed he was busy but finally did so on January but the document covered only the period I had worked with him from April 2017 to November 2017 but was issued on January I took it to the embassy and it was rejected that they wanted a document that covers my entire stay in China
My new institution says they can only help me get the document when I most I worked with them for at least 6months
My worries
1-what can I do u?
2-my medicals expire on tool hey he 28 of march this month
3-should my medicals expire without me submitting the document do I still have a chance or not
I will be honour to hear from you
March 15, 2018 at 13:52
1. I don’t know anything about procedures in China.
2. OK
3. If your AP is cleared you would have to repeat the medical.
March 15, 2018 at 10:21
hello, my husband won dv lottery 2018 and we went to interview last week. The officer said we both will get the visas soon.My question is is there any way i could get to us before my husband did? our sponsors told us they cant sponsor both of us so we already find another sponsor for one of us , is there any chances we can have different address for the green card?
March 15, 2018 at 13:57
The derivative cannot enter before the principal selectee. Get the GCs sent to the same address.
April 1, 2018 at 06:13
Hello!
I won the lottery but I am already in the US under visa 01. For now I haven’t submit anything, my lawyer said we have to wait my number is current or it would mess up the process, I want to make sure i don’t have to submit anything ? Thanks
April 1, 2018 at 14:23
Using a lawyer will probably mess up the process.
You should have submitted your DS260 and ask your lawyer about the early filing policy.
April 3, 2018 at 11:32
Dear Brit,
My interview at the embassy in Paris is scheduled in a few days and I have a question:
Here is the list provided by the official travel.state.gov website on the papers I should bring with me:
A copy of your NVC interview letter
Unexpired passport valid for six (6) months beyond your intended date of entry to the United States and a photocopy of the
biographic page
Two (2) color photographs of each person applying for a visa (5 cm x 5 cm). Please review our online photo requirements.
Confirmation page from the Form DS-260 Application for an Immigrant Visa you submitted online at ceac.state.gov/iv.
Your original birth certificate, English translation, and a photocopy.
Medical examination results in a sealed envelope
I do not understand why it is written to bring an English translation of the birth certificate although my appointment will take place in France (so French documents should be fine?)
Also, should I print my whole DS260 or just the confirmation page?
Thanks a lot for your help
Best
Camille
April 3, 2018 at 14:02
French BC should be fine (but an English translation will be useful in the USA anyway).
DS260 confirmatikon page.
April 8, 2018 at 18:59
Every rule needs to be followed. Every document needs to be presented. Every translation needs to be shown if asked. Better to have too much than not enough. They have specific rules, follow them. It would be sad to be disqualified for a missing translation. Even if you don’t need it at the embassy, maybe it will be asked at the POE. They are giving you a great opportunity here, the least you can do is follow the directions. Paris candidate here too and I’m glad I had all the docs required. Interview lasted 4 minutes. Got my visa in 6 days. No AP (other than the usual wait after the interview) so Camille, suis les règles et tout se passera pour le mieux. Ça ne sera pas de trop d’avoir chaque document requis. Bonne chance
April 9, 2018 at 06:16
Hello aivilo86, thanks a lot for your comment. I’m always so happy to see people getting their visa from the French embassy, congratulations! You of course are right for the documents, and I sent my BC to the official translator to get it ready for the embassy. However and as specified on every other site, French documents or English ones must be ok for a Paris embassy interview. Is the list provided above seem right to you? Were you asked additionnal docs? Thanks so much for your help. À bientôt Camille
April 7, 2018 at 19:13
Hello,
I’m from Egypt, my case number is 2018AF18xxx
According to April visa bulletin Africa cut-off number is 21,100
Except Egypt 14,500
How come someone from any african country whose case number is 21,100 has an interview while my number is 18,000 and still waiting … isn’t that unfair?
April 7, 2018 at 20:09
No – it’s not “unfair”. This is a privilege, not a right.
April 8, 2018 at 03:09
Okay, what if my case # is 25,000 & i been applying in the lottery for the past 10 years now there is a possibility that i can’t even go for the interview after i already won just because i live in Egypt?
While thousands of people whose case number are below mine can have a visa?
I’m not taking abour rights but we should apply for the visa according to our case # without any exceptions otherwise they should mention that before the draw.
April 8, 2018 at 03:22
The rules are publicly available, and the POINT of the DV lottery is to give a chance to countries not getting high numbers of immigrants. Your letter of selection said the selection does not guarantee a GC. The limitation is because so many Egyptians are selected, and others may see that as unfair too.
April 8, 2018 at 15:03
I’m sorry, there is a correction in my previous reply.
I meant if my case # is 25,000 there is a possibilty that i can’t have an interview because i live in Egypt.
While thousands of people from other african countries whose case # are ABOVE mine can apply for the visa.
For ex. (25,001 – 35,000)
I still believe that the interview should be arranged in the order of the DV selection without any exceptions.
If there are so many egyptians were selected then they should program the computer to lower the selection next time which will be a lot better than beeing selected then everything vanishes into thin air
Anyway thank you for replying.
April 8, 2018 at 15:09
The draw does limit the number of Egyptians drawn – which is why Egyptians get all their winners concentrated in the lower number ranges. Others could point to THAT as feeling unfair. Furthermore – Cairo is MUCH more lenient than some other embassies – they approve cases that other embassies would deny. Again – others would like that. Ask Ghanaians whether they would like the approval chances in Cairo versus Accra.
Bottomline – *you* will feel it is unfair if *you* don’t get a visa. If you do get one, you’ll take the visa and suddenly stop talking about how unfair it is. Am I right?
April 8, 2018 at 18:08
Yes, you are right.
I’m praying to get the visa as everyone else, i was afraid that my interview will not be scheduled because of the restriction they imposed on Egypt.
Obviously those restrictions are applied on Egypt, Ethiopia and Nepal.
Thank you of the time and the effort you spent on this website …. you are a good man 🙂
April 8, 2018 at 19:15
Best of luck.
April 8, 2018 at 18:13
Thank you for* the time …
April 17, 2018 at 08:49
Hello. Thanks for your guidance Brit. My fiance was selected for the diversity lottery and her interview is in a weeks time. After her interview she has 6 month till she enters the united states. Can we get married after interview and file for my visa under the same lotter? will I be given a visa as her husband?
April 17, 2018 at 16:04
The time to have married was a few months ago. As it is, she can ask at the embassy OR marry after the interview and when she gets to America she can sponsor you (which is a two year process).
April 18, 2018 at 03:24
Hello Simon,
I was selected for the process of DV2018
I’m 2018AS10XXX
Excuse me, bank statement,
Need several months of monthly statement records
Thanks for sharing
April 18, 2018 at 04:41
If that is a question, yes it is wise to go to the interview with some bank records.
April 18, 2018 at 07:24
Hello Simon,
Sorry, the problem is that I have to prove bank records
Needs several months of data for 3 months or 6 months,Thanks
April 18, 2018 at 14:23
Instead of wondering, take more than you think you might need.
April 19, 2018 at 00:33
Hello. I used my parent eligibility country while I was born nd Live in non – eligible country. I’ll be happy if I may knw some documents I’ll be needing for the interview before the date.
April 19, 2018 at 01:06
You will need to show that your parents were in the country of your birth temporarily. That is hard if you still live there.
April 19, 2018 at 21:04
I still live in the country till today, I’ve been thinking about my chance, seems very slim. What your advise Simon on this.
April 26, 2018 at 14:13
Good Afternoon,
i was interviewed this weekin the US consulate of casablnca, but unfortunately i get a administrative processing (ds 5535)
I want to know, how much time take this process (maximum)?
In your information, the interview was normal and i give them all documents required.
Please Help me 🙂
Best regards from Morocco
April 26, 2018 at 14:14
I cannot predict how long the AP will last – it varies, but can last several months in some cases.
April 26, 2018 at 14:21
Thanks for your Feedback BritSimon,
is it really, at the end of September 2018, all cases in AP will be cancelled?
May 1, 2018 at 19:00
Dear Sir,
I’m one of Europe selectees and my case number is EU28XXX. Do you think will i have any chance of interview? If Europe goes current next month, do they send the 2NL with the order of the numbers, or the time I filled in DS 260 form matters? I filled it at a very early time. Thanx in advance.
May 1, 2018 at 19:12
EU certainly won’t go current. With your number, all you can do is wait and see.
May 2, 2018 at 08:02
I did apply for DV lottery, but there was mistake in the date of birth,
What I must do
May 2, 2018 at 13:31
See if you win first.
May 3, 2018 at 05:23
When are we going to start checking the results
May 4, 2018 at 06:46
Hi B,
When would I start checking my status ?
May 4, 2018 at 17:48
DV2019? May 15.
May 13, 2018 at 13:08
After completing the DS260 is there any other applications that need to be completed after that before the interview? What applications do I take to the interview?
May 13, 2018 at 13:56
No – but read the instructions.
May 15, 2018 at 12:44
Hi! I am trying to check my DV2019 Entrant Status, I have manually typed and copy/pasted from the screen shot of the confirmation number I took but it is coming back saying ‘Invalid Confirmation Number: Please enter the correct confirmation number that is 16 characters long (example: 20181O0DZWY3DOV9)’ – when I click ‘forgot confirmation number’ it only shows 2018, not 2019, as an option so I am wondering if perhaps the 2019 Entrant Check isn’t yet open? I have looked across this website and online but it only states May 15th with no mention of a specific time in terms of when we can check. It’s past 0815 EST which is their office open hours, perhaps I need to wait longer…? Hopefully you might know! Thanks so much!
May 15, 2018 at 13:21
From their website:
2019 Entrant Status Check
DV-2019 Entrants may enter their confirmation information through the link below starting at noon (EDT) on May 15, 2018. The DV-2019 entry period opened on October 18, 2017, and closed on November 22, 2017. Only confirmation information for entries submitted during this period are valid for checking your status. DV-2019 Entrants should keep their confirmation number until September 30, 2019.
May 16, 2018 at 09:38
Its shows me :
Please review the Confirmation Number, your Last/Family Name, and Year of Birth to ensure you have entered them exactly as they appear on your DV Confirmation Page, including punctuation.
Several characters are often confused:
0 = zero, O = letter ‘O’, 1 = one, I = letter ‘I’ (like ‘Ice’), 5 = five, S = letter ‘S’, 6 = six, G = letter ‘G’, 8 = eight, B = letter ‘B’
While i enterd every thing correctly to check my DV2019 ?
anyone face similer thing??
please advice..
thanks

hey BritSimon
Thank you for all these information. my brother had just been selected for the 2019 DV lottery, he has 20 and I am asking you if I can fill the DS260 form for him and also, do I need to wait for his passport because he has not yet before starting fill the form?

You can complete the form. You can use other ID or just wait for his passport.

Hi Brit, first of all thank you so much for running this blog. Without it we would be completely clueless to the whole process. We have a high case number AF488XX but are still holding out hope and keeping everything crossed. I really don’t like to bother you but have a couple of questions and have looked everywhere and through FAQ’s but can’t seem to find any clear answers:
1. I am South African born but live in the UK. I left SA when I was 12 and have not returned since my last trip when I was 16. From what I understand I will need to get a Police Certificate for there aswell as UK. My problem is that I have no clue how I go about getting one from there. Do you have any links or any advice?
2. We completed our DS-260 in June last year but since then have had a family trip out to the US. Would it be best to unlock the form and update now or just wait till the interview?
Thank you again for all your help.

1. The instructions for the lottery should lead you to the reciprocity pages. Check the one for SA.
2. Either way is fine.

Ah I didn’t think to go through the SA one. Sorry. Thank you for getting back to me so quickly.

hello BritSimon!
Please help me. I entered correct information to chek my DV-2019 status.
But sistem writes “The information entered is not valid.
Please review the Confirmation Number, your Last/Family Name, and Year of Birth to ensure you have entered them exactly as they appear on your DV Confirmation Page, including punctuation.”
WHAT CAN I DO?
