For those just being selected, you may not yet fully understand the importance of your case number. Your number is specific to your region, each region starting from 1. So there is an 2019AF1, 2019AS1, 2019EU1 and so on. The regions go up to different maximum numbers, with 1 being the lowest in each region. The number dictates when you will be interviewed, low numbers are interviewed before high numbers. Whether your number is high or low is relative within a region to the highest numbers in that region – so it is helpful in these early days to start getting an idea of what case numbers are out there.
So – please report your case number as a reply to this thread. Give your number in slightly hidden format – ignoring the leading zeros, and hiding the last 2 or 3 digits. So case number 2019AF000012345 would be shown as 2019AF12XXX. SA and OC regions have lower ranges, so just hide the last two digits – so 2019OC000001234 becomes 2019OC12XX. Always quote your number that way on public forums.
Please also give your country you are charged to (typically country of birth).

Hi Brit, 2018 selectee my interview was on Thursday and things didn’t work in my favor all necessary documents were correct but I was accused of making double entries by the consular in which I never do such and he put me on AP
Thanks for your efforts and they said they get back to me in two weeks time but my hope has been reduced again of getting my visa
What your advice Sir?
August 14, 2018 at 14:53
All you can do is wait.
August 22, 2018 at 09:16
Hi Chris , what kind of double entries are they referring to? we could learn from your situation to avoid doing the same . thanks for replying in advance

Hi!
My number is 2019EU4***. I have a question, will I be safe if I ask to postpone my interview for 2 months (so instead of December to February)? Do you think there would still be available visas? This would work way better for me because of my university, so this is all of course IF the embassy lets me to this.
Best
August 16, 2018 at 15:28
The way to delay is by delaying submission of the DS260 – but if you submitted already that is too late. There is risk is asking for delay, because there is no guarantee the embassy will push the interview back only a couple of months.
August 16, 2018 at 15:53
Hello Brit,
Thanks for the very informative blog, I am learning a lot about the process just by reading this blog.
I have to warn you that this will be a long read… have couple questions, I promise timing of the interview is not one of them 🙂
My case number is 2019AF24xxx and I am charged to Sudan. I am living in Saudi and my interview will be in Riyadh. I am expecting the interview to be next summer if I reached to the interview phase
I have never lived in Sudan at all, I lived and moved between three countries in the Gulf
My questions are
1. I started getting the police clearance letters from the countries I lived in. Do you think I should get one also from Sudan eventhough I have never lived there just because it is the country of citizenship. It is a lot of hassle yo get one from there but if it is needed I will start the process.
2. The spelling of my name and the city of birth on my Bachelor Degree is slightly different than on my current passport. Not wrong spelling is just different since Arabic names can be written in English in different ways (i.e an “e” instead of “i” or vice versa) they still pronounced the same. However the spelling on the certificate matches my old passport which I use to travel to the US twice and has a B1/B2 visa on it with the same spelling. I filled my Ds260 with the spelling on the current passport. Do I need to do anything regarding my certificate. The univeesity issues two certificates one in Arabic and one in English ofcourse the one in Arabic matches perfectly so I think the below options
a. Don’t do anything and in the interview show them my old passport that has old us visa and that the spelling matches the degree.
b. Don’t use the English one but use the Arabic one and ask the legal translator to match the spelling to my current passport.
What do you think?
Sorry for the long message
Thanks
Omar

1. Read the official instructions as that is well covered (and you apparently haven’t read them yet).

August 16, 2018 at 18:00

August 16, 2018 at 19:01

DS 260 submited on June.
question is :
since I have US visa valid till 2021 may I change Embassy from country of origin and to start procedure from USCIS in Florida due to Im opening business there and dont want to wait my DV visa to be current on Spring 2019 .
please advise .
br,

August 17, 2018 at 15:18
You may screw the whole thing up. You can ONLY do that if the NON immigrant visa you obtain is a “dual intent” visa. Otherwise you cannot enter the USA with an intention to adjust status.

Hi Brit
Case No: 2019AF304XX
I please need your guidance on this. For 18 months my husband worked as IT infrastructure maintenance support for a company in Congo Brazzaville and only traveled to Congo few times for few days for major work. He worked remotely from Johannesburg for the 18 months and only traveled to Congo if and when needed.
My questions are :
1. Is it mandatory for him to get the police clearance for Congo even though he didn’t technically live them for the 18 months and only traveled few times to the company there for work?
I am asking because if we were to do it , it will be a lengthy difficult process since we don’t live there
2. Not having a Congo police clearance , will that jeopardize our interview and application?
Thanking you in advance
August 22, 2018 at 15:03
1. Probably not – but it is up to the CO based on whether they accept the visits did not amount to living there.
2. That is the same question…

Hi Brit,
The Case Number entered is currently unavailable.
I Fill DS 260 before down.
1. What does it means. Tell me detail am I missing the chance?
2019AF20XXX
2. I write my confirmation number with out zero & Date of birth correctly .
CEAC says you can open DS 260 at any time
But when I tried to open it says
The Case Number entered is currently unavailable.
August 24, 2018 at 21:36
The system is currently having some maintenance. Wait a couple of weeks.
August 25, 2018 at 07:58
Hi Brit,
Case Number: 2019AF26XX
I have been able to sign in to the CEAC website normally using my case number mentioned above to fill my DS-260 online form, but not anymore since the website was fixed after it was down for maintenance few weeks ago.
Since then, every time I try to sign in, it keeps giving me the same following error messages:
“The case information you entered does not match our records..” then later;
“The Case Number entered is currently unavailable..”.
I inform you that I have rechecked my case information several times on the Entrant Status Check page, and it always told me that I have been randomly selected for further processing in the Diversity Immigrant Visa Program for the fiscal year 2019, and gave me the same correct case number.
I remind you that I was able to sign in the CEAC before the website was down for maintenance, and I even finished filling the DS-260 online form but still haven’t submitted it yet, wish I need to do as soon as possible, because my case number is very small therefor I expect my visa interview date to be too soon.
I tried emailing the KCC but seems like a robot has been giving me irrelevant answers. I tried calling them several times, some of them told me that the site still has glitches since the last maintenance, and other ones told me that I need to contact the US embassy in Algiers, which seems not right because my problem is still in its early stages yet, plus it looks like its the CEAC problem that US embassies have nothing to do with.
so what seems to be the problem here?!
Sorry for the long inquiry and thanks in advance.
August 25, 2018 at 16:23
The site still has problems. Be patient.
August 26, 2018 at 18:43
HI BRIT,
CEAC say you can print DS 260 any time.
When I check my statut it says “the case Number entered is currently unavailable.”
What does It means? Is it for the purpose of disqualifying me.
I wait for morethan couple of weeks.
When I mail to KCC they say
We’re unable to process your request to unlock the DS-260 for case number 2019ZZZZZZ” Am not asking them to to unlock DS-260 . “You will have an opportunity to make any necessary changes to your DS-260 after your initial DV interview at a United States Embassy. If you need to submit a new DS-260 for a new spouse or child, please contact the Embassy where your interview will take place after you receive a scheduling confirmation letter through the Entrant Status Check system. For changes to an existing DS-260 it is not necessary to contact the Embassy in advance.”
August 26, 2018 at 19:12
There is a technical problem with the system – not specific to your case. So – for now you cannot access your form. So – relax and be patient.

Hi Simon,
I wanna ask you about something. I found two missed letters from my given name in the front of the green card. Is it OK? However the back side have the complete name.
September 10, 2018 at 18:17
I assume you have a long name, so it must be space. Since they have your full name, that is not a problem.
September 10, 2018 at 19:02
Yes, I have a long name (18 character). So, Is I need to reissue? If no, Is it cause a problem in my traveling?

I already said it is not a problem.

Hi
My case is Eu15xxx
My question is:if my coutry has to many selecties aroud 4000 and for example them all have number cases lower than mine.is there any chance not to be interviewed because ambasy has no capacity to procced us all.
September 13, 2018 at 20:02
There is no EU country that nears the country limit of 7%. Remember, many selectees don’t respond, some get refused and so on.

September 15, 2018 at 03:34
Hey brit, in the asia region, iran and nepal has quota system, they are expected to be selected more than any other region, and also they are selected more than 7% of 55000. Is iran and nepal are given more prominence than other asian countries
September 15, 2018 at 05:47
Iran and Nepal get more selectees because they have more entries. As simple as that.
