For those just being selected, you may not yet fully understand the importance of your case number. Your number is specific to your region, each region starting from 1. So there is an 2019AF1, 2019AS1, 2019EU1 and so on. The regions go up to different maximum numbers, with 1 being the lowest in each region. The number dictates when you will be interviewed, low numbers are interviewed before high numbers. Whether your number is high or low is relative within a region to the highest numbers in that region – so it is helpful in these early days to start getting an idea of what case numbers are out there.
So – please report your case number as a reply to this thread. Give your number in slightly hidden format – ignoring the leading zeros, and hiding the last 2 or 3 digits. So case number 2019AF000012345 would be shown as 2019AF12XXX. SA and OC regions have lower ranges, so just hide the last two digits – so 2019OC000001234 becomes 2019OC12XX. Always quote your number that way on public forums.
Please also give your country you are charged to (typically country of birth).

It depends on one thing. How many selectees are there in this first draw. That we will find out in a few weeks.
May 16, 2018 at 23:52
Hello. So is that mean, it will have a second draw??
May 16, 2018 at 23:54

is this year process the same as last year regarding the process (slow numbers released)
May 17, 2018 at 00:57
Probably.
May 17, 2018 at 02:32
Hi brit, from the very few case numbers you’ve seen, does it look likely that there was a high number of selectees and hence a slimmer chance of a 2nd draw this year?
May 17, 2018 at 02:41
I have seen a single number from Asia region that suggests a high selectee draw. Other than that, it is too early to say.

Hey Brit,I have a question to ask about the newly selected dv winners I have a sister who has been selected for dv 2019 processing but there is an error with the first letter of her name instead of i its l I please want to know if its a problem or she should correct it on the DS260. Thanks.
May 17, 2018 at 14:05
Correct it in the DS260
May 17, 2018 at 19:12
Thanks sir.
May 18, 2018 at 02:26
Don’t you mean DS-160, or is there another form?
My DV number is for Australia (Oceania) 2-19OCXXXX01XX. as I am already in the US on an O-1 Visa, I am gonna do an AOS. Because my visa runs out Jan 1st 2019, i need to make sure i get my processing in this year while my visa is still active. Having looked at previous year visa bulletins, it looks like i will be in the 1st month of visas able to submit. Do you think this likely? Thanks mate.
May 18, 2018 at 02:34
I edited your case number.
The form is DS260.
For AOS cases – read the thread at the link below, particularly the spreadsheet on the first post in that thread.

May 18, 2018 at 10:47
Brit,
Are citizens from travel baned countries selected this time around?
Since the DV rules did not changed in that regard. I mean they hot selected but not hoing to get visas as long is the ban not removed
May 18, 2018 at 14:29
Still selected, yes. The rules are the same.
May 18, 2018 at 11:07
Hi Simon,
I got selected for DV2019, CN is 2019AS12XXX
Country of chargeability is Lebanon
Is this number risky compared to previous years ?
I see that in 2015, maximum case numbers for Asia was 7650 end of the fiscal year (September)
(according to you data: https://britsimonsays.com/historical-visa-bulletin-numbers/)
but many other years all case numbers went current (2017 for example had 13499 selectees in Asia according to data here https://britsimonsays.com/dv2018-selectee-numbers-published/.
Am I missing something here ? is this due to the travel ban ?
Thanks a lot for your blog, it is super useful and i am definitely making a donation 🙂
Kassem
May 18, 2018 at 15:02
The travel ban means a lot of selectees are not able to process their cases. So – AS region will be affected greatly by whether the ban stays in force or not.
May 18, 2018 at 16:04
Thank you!
I know it’s too early and speculative, but based on your experience and previous observations, is my number 2019AS12XXX too bad ?
May 18, 2018 at 17:43
It really is too early. And because of the travel ban – this could be another strange year. Patience.

Hello BritSimon, great work!
2019AS4XXX Japan
Quick question. After reading most of your website info, 2019AS4XXX seems like a low case number in any given year. If I get all the documentation in order and on time, would you say my odds of getting an interview is on the high side? Thanks!

August 21, 2018 at 13:27
You saw the answer for a case just under that number – so why on earth do you need to ask this question????
May 18, 2018 at 22:11
Hello 2019EU17XXX, is there an acceptable time period to fill the ds260 form. Because I need to change my password and I can only do it in 2 months. Should I write the number of my current passport, instead? It will be expired when I get the interview.
May 18, 2018 at 22:54
Just delay submission of the DS260. It won’t delay your case since you have to wait anyway.
May 19, 2018 at 02:35
Hi Mr Brit,
Hope you are fine. I did my interview but it went AP. Then, they asked me for all previous passports. I told them that I have no previous passport. Just now, I remembered that I lost my passport and I issued a new one instead. The lost one never used in traveling anywhere. So, what is your advice?
May 19, 2018 at 05:26
My advice would have been to tell the truth. Now – the decision is yours.
May 19, 2018 at 07:39
I told them what happened in anew message. Thank you so much.
May 19, 2018 at 10:41
Hello Brit!
I really like your blog!
My case number is 2019EU21XXX, Finland.
Is the number too big compared to previous years?
After completing ds-260, will I have to send (e-mail/mail) documents to national visa center (NVC) or to KCC?
In the instructions for completing ds-260 it says in the section 6. “If your case IS processing electronically, pleace scan and email your documents to: [email protected]” What does this mean?
Are the documents the same ones you have to bring to the interview.
Kind Regards. Joni
May 19, 2018 at 15:15
Your number isn’t very high, but w don’t know about selected number ranges yet.
Once you complete the DS260 – you wait. Read the guides on this site – you have a long wait – plenty of time to learn.
May 19, 2018 at 11:18
Hello Brits my entry has not selected for further processing……But If I may ask you. well I have played DV 2017, DV 2018 & DV 2019…….Am I qualified to play DV 2020……..what’s your advice……..was anything wrong with my play period……hope to hear you soon
May 19, 2018 at 15:17
It’s a random draw with a low chance of selection.

May 19, 2018 at 23:14
Hi Brit,
My case number is 2019AS12XXX, Syria (based on previous VB history when do you think my visa will become current)
I am a pending Asylum applicant (waiting for interview),,i came on B1/B2 and filed my asylum immediately and it’s been about 18 months since i filed my application and i have valid EAD and SSN
I am trying to fill the DS-260 but my problem is in the DS-260 online form there is a mandatory entry field for Passport details (number, issue data and expiry date). My passport is expired and the application will not proceed to next step if I put an expiry date in the past..
i cannot renew my passport due to the fact that i am a pending asylum and i will not be able to renew it as i am away from my original country and they will not renew it for me. In fact as a asylum applicant i am not supposed to renew it even.
Back to the DS-260 form. there is an option “Other Travel Document Type” if i chose that option then i won’t have to enter my passport details and i would be able to proceed with the application..
Sorry for the complex scenario, but do you think selecting the “Other Travel Document Type” is correct in my case ?
I know you said there is no hurry to submit my DS-260..but for now i am just filling it up and i want to make sure that i can complete it with no problem..
Final question: Do you believe i can still do AOS without submitting DS-260 at all ?
Thanks
May 20, 2018 at 05:45
You have over a year to wait – plenty of time to discuss all this in time.
May 20, 2018 at 00:33
