For those just being selected, you may not yet fully understand the importance of your case number. Your number is specific to your region, each region starting from 1. So there is an 2019AF1, 2019AS1, 2019EU1 and so on. The regions go up to different maximum numbers, with 1 being the lowest in each region. The number dictates when you will be interviewed, low numbers are interviewed before high numbers. Whether your number is high or low is relative within a region to the highest numbers in that region – so it is helpful in these early days to start getting an idea of what case numbers are out there.
So – please report your case number as a reply to this thread. Give your number in slightly hidden format – ignoring the leading zeros, and hiding the last 2 or 3 digits. So case number 2019AF000012345 would be shown as 2019AF12XXX. SA and OC regions have lower ranges, so just hide the last two digits – so 2019OC000001234 becomes 2019OC12XX. Always quote your number that way on public forums.
Please also give your country you are charged to (typically country of birth).

2, last year i try to get B1 visa but was denied , when i fill DS260 the the date must be in 2017 but i fill in 2016 so is that will affect my visa process?
3, I have university degree and working in company with three years contract but the company management wouldn’t give me experience latter, is that would have any effect ?

About EU2019…Given that this year the number is about +/- 30000 (CN), on russian/belorus forum also does not have CN over 30,000 (or a little more) … we have official 30.006 winners (selectee) + marriages and children. I also realized from your post that between the numbers (CN) there are holes. there is also a percentage of failures, refusals and so on. Logically, all numbers must pass or be Current in Sep 2019 as in dv 2015-2017. Am I right ??? or there are other nuances/details… One more…all We need from you is the Hope so this is why, I guess ,all ask you about their high Numbers. al least you are more smart and professional in these matters:) Also you kindly ask us to be patient but in this case after 4-6 months no body will need advises, will be clear…sorry to take your time–and wou a have really good site:)…
July 20, 2018 at 07:27
In the Serbian forum every year, at least 60-70 people report that they have been selected (in Serbia every year, an average of 300-500 people are selected, in dv2019 only 307 are selected), this year only 17 of us reported. It’s early, but this gives some hope to respond maybe it will not be like in 2018.
July 20, 2018 at 13:13
We already know the numbers per country, and yes it is a lower selection year. However, I am concerned that it may be over selected in EU – so people with high case numbers should remain cautious.

Hi Simon,
In general, how quickly can you start working, if all goes well during each step of this process? Meaning, are you allowed to work as soon as you land in the US – or do you need to wait 3-4 months until the green card arrives?
Thanks,
Dan
July 22, 2018 at 19:31
Immediately. In practice you need to wait to get the SSN (2 to 3 weeks) but even that doesn’t need to slow you down.

I am a student currently studying in USA. I got selected for DV-2019 my case number is 2019AS128XX. As I know the AOS takes time longer than CP. What is the best option for me ?
July 25, 2018 at 16:57
You’ll need to make that decision. However, your number won’t be current for almost a year – so you have time to make the decision. Do not submit the DS260 until you have made that decision – there is no need to rush that. The thread below has a comparison between AOS versus CP and lots of AOS info.

The case numbers are sometimes higher than selectees. The link below explains why.

July 26, 2018 at 14:45
hi Briit…What do you thimk for for “”starting derivate dv 2019″”???i see is very memberer family..thanks..you are very very good person
July 26, 2018 at 15:13
It varies by region and by country.
July 26, 2018 at 17:54
REGION EU EXAMPLE…..DERIVATE START??
July 26, 2018 at 19:04
As I said, it varies by country, so if a country gets a particularly high percentage of selectees, and has a high derivative rate, that can affect the derivative rate. Averaged on DV2018 entries, the number is about 1.65. However, based on selectees for DV2018 the number for THAT year was 1.99. We don’t know for sure whether the number would be the same – but I tend to base calculations such as cases on the more conservative number.
So – to predict the number of cases using the two numbers we take the 30006 selectees we know about and divide by 1.65 (18185 cases) and also by 1.99 (15078 cases). The number of cases is likely to be in that range.
However, DV2018 has been stopped at 25775, and that was 16023 cases (there were ~4900 cases left higher than 25775). Since we know the highest selectee numbers are about 35XXX, the derivative rate is probably lower than the 1.99, but NOT lower than 1.65. We will probably also see a lower density also – meaning more cases have been disqualified, and that will help explain the higher case numbers we are seeing.
July 26, 2018 at 19:09
but as you said only one comment was confirmed for the case number 35xxx, it happened that this is not true and maybe that the case number is about 32 / 33k, which you said you expect, then it can happen that the derivative rate is higher than 1.65?
July 26, 2018 at 19:17
Yes – I am trying to explain why the starting derivative rate cannot be certain at the moment, but yes, the starting derivative rate is likely to be higher than 1.65. The ending derivative rate will certainly be higher than 2. Last year it was over 2.35.
July 27, 2018 at 00:18
eu derivate groth up 28 %..for dv 2018 statting derivate is 1.99 the end is 2.3 only 28 % change……..for dv 2019 if derivate starting 1.6 the end off derivate CANT be 2.3…….1.6 X 28% GROTH UP = 1.95……..Only dv 2017 starting derivate is 1.8 and the Final derivate is 2.3….your canculate is wrong Simmon…..i am a IT worked……thaks for your time
July 27, 2018 at 00:54
Recalculate the growth rate from 1.99 to 2.3 and show me how that is 28%.
If you are going to tell someone their calculations are wrong, you should be able to perform basic math.
Then reread what I said, your reading is about as good as your math skills.
July 27, 2018 at 01:32
SORRY SORRY SORRY …….IS ABOUT 14% FOR DV 2018 DERIVATE GROTH UP
July 27, 2018 at 01:41
Yeah I know. Perhaps you should leave the math to me and READ what I write before saying *I* am wrong.

Go through the reported numbers and list them out, one by one, region and number. Sort them, then post the results. Then you will have your answer and will have done something helpful.

HI Brit
Thank you for your blog. it helps a lot
I have some questions
I have been selected and my case number is 2019AF9***
So I’m already here in the United States as an international student.
I went to the immigration office and they told me that I’m eligible to apply for a green car but I have to wait until my case number will be current
So my question is how to know that your case number is current ?
And how to apply ?
Thank you

August 6, 2018 at 08:13
Hi Brit,
Thanks for your amazing blog, my case Number is 2019ASXXX (3digits).. Already sent my DS-260 application on July. Unfortunately, after further investigation over the info on the internet about DV process, it came to my mind that I might not filled the “Country of Eligibility for the DV program” correctly – I selected Israel instead of keeping it Russia (the country were I was born). I have no Russian citizenship only Israeli one and live there since I am 3 years old. So it was an honest mistake to think that the right answer to that section is Israel. Is there a slightly chance I won’t be disqualified?
I started reading on the net that my chances to win AS number has less chance than EU number.
Should I inform them (that I noticed about this honest mistake)? At what point I would be noticed about denial.
Will this effect my future chances in participating in any other Green Card programs? I have bachelor degree in computers and mba with your of experiencing and might search for relocation via my employee.
Thanks
J
August 6, 2018 at 16:57
Unless you were married to someone from AS region when you entered, disqualification is certain (whether it was an honest mistake or not, makes no difference).
This won’t affect future GC programs, but because you submitted your DS260, that may be a factor in future non immigrant visa applications.
