We will have many DV2021 selectees with very basic questions. Let me try and address the most frequent ones here in the hope that people will read this. If you ask a question and I give you a link to this page, it is to indicate that your question can be answered by reading this page and using some common sense. Please use the links in the title at the top of this page for Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) and the DV lottery guide. There is LOTS of information available on my site โ so a look through the FAQ and guide will take care of most questions.
Please read the ground rules at the bottom of this page.
Here are two links to help those still not able to check their entry:
https://britsimonsays.com/faq/checking-esc-page-check-without-mistakes/
And here is a video to explain how to check your entry result.
This video is specifcally showing the process for DV2021:
This is a video for people that find they are selected!
And for those that cannot submit their DS260.
https://britsimonsays.com/faq/ds260-case-number-doesnt-match-case-number/
Now โ some questions.
Is there a deadline to submit my DS260?
There is no official deadline to submit your DS260. People will continue to submit DS260s for DV2021 cases well into 2021. Submissions as late as April, May or perhaps (but more riskily) even June of next year will still get processed in time.
How long does it take to process the DS260?
The way DS260โs are processed was changed for DV2018. In addition there was a recent change to the process about submitting documents to KCC AFTER the DS260.
The actual processing time of the DS260 is quite short โ probably 3 to 4 weeks.
Does every DS260 take the same time to process?
No. There is some background checks required on each case that vary according to the situation of the selectees. The precise details of the checks are not published, but we can guess they are mainly about ensuring security of the USA. That means they communicate with agencies and foreign governments about the details you provide on the DS260. Some countries co-operate with the USA, some donโt. In countries that donโt co-operate you can expect DS260 will take longer. So, some cases are very simple, and some not so simple. If a selectee was raised in Western Europe, works in an office and has never travelled to certain high risk countries we can expect the DS260 processing (once the case is ACTUALLY processed, not queued) to be quick. If on the other hand someone has travel history around certain countries in the Middle East or lists their work as โNuclear weapons specialistโ, well they can expect the US government to take longer over those checks.
So โ never assume that all DS260s submitted on the same day will complete processing on the same day. There will be variations.
When will I be interviewed?
Interview timing is mainly based on your case number, and where that number is ranked within each region. If you submitted your DS260 early, but have a high case number within your region, you will wait until that case number is ready to be interviewed. So โ if you are case number 10000 in AS region for example you can expect a long wait before being interviewed. However regions have their own numbering, SO that same number in AF region (where the highest case number could be a lot higher) that 10000 number would be very low. So โlow or highโ number is relative within the region.
When will interviews start and how will I be told of my interview date?
No DV2021 interviews will happen before October 2020. DV2021 interviews will continue until September 30th 2021. So stop packing your bags. Itโs a long process. Interview scheduled are notified in monthly batches about 6 weeks before the interview month. The notification is called the 2NL.
When will KCC send the first 2NLs?
The first 2NLs (the interview notification) for DV2020 will go out in mid/late August. That will be for cases that have been processed AND are current for October, AND have submitted their documents. Then 2NLs will come in a monthly schedule, also late in each month. So โ late in September for November interviews and so on.
When are the visa bulletins published?
The visa bulletins are published around the 15th of each month.
โMy case number is XXXX when will I be scheduled?โ
Oh man. These questions are tiring. I really expect people to use some thought process about this, and if you canโt do that, then asking me to think for you is not going to be warmly welcomed by me. I have made available more than enough information to get an idea of how scheduling works, but remember, cases are scheduled according to ALL the following three things.
- The case number. No case will EVER be scheduled until the case number is ready.
- DS260 submission. Until the DS260 is submitted AND PROCESSED, you will not be scheduled.
- Submitted documents to KCC (new process). Until your documents are submitted to KCC you will not be processed. Read about the new procedure here.
How do KCC schedule the cases?
Roughly speaking all interviews are spread out over the year, starting in October and ending the following September. KCC release numbers via the visa bulletin to say which case numbers can be interviewed. Check out this article to understand how to read the visa bulletin.
KCC will increase the number made current on each region at a pace that ensures they have enough interviews to match the embassy capacity during each month.
So โ to take an example. If OC had a highest case number of 1000, we could roughly expect to see that number increase by 100 each month. It might be 75 one month and 125 the next, but you get the general idea โ it is a slow progression over the year.
Will there be a second draw?
In some years it is possible that there would be a small second draw around September/October. We don’t know how likely that is for DV2021 yet.
Selectees, cases and case numbers
OK โ so there is some confusion about this โ so let me cover it here.
When the selectee numbers are published (in the July or August visa bulletin there is a number shown for each country within each region. That number is the number of *selectees โ INCLUDING derivatives*. So โ if a winner was single, that is one selectee on one case number. If the winner was married and had one child, that would count as three selectees. The global quota of visas is 50,000, so if the three person family were to be approved, that is 3 out of 50,000.
Each winner gets a case number. The derivatives are on that same case number. Each region has itโs on set of case numbers โ so there can be an AF1, AF2, AS1, AS2, EU1 and EU2 ands so on. So when you tell me your case number is case number 12345 โ it is meaningless. I need the year and region.
As I explain in this post about holes theory โ the case numbers assigned have โholesโ (or gaps between them). So โ case number 2019EU20000 does NOT have 19999 cases in front of them. The number will be less. However, there may be less case numbers โ but each case has the selectee and derivatives.
To understand your โplace in the lineโ, you have to understand the density of cases, number of derivatives on each case, how many cases will respond, how many will be approved and so on. There is a lot to understand. I wrote a series of articles a couple of years ago โ and all can be understood by reading those โ start with density analysis, and use the links at the bottom of that article to get to the others. The analysis was specific to DV2016 โ but the principles are the same.
In the first few months of the new program year we donโt have much data. In January we get access to the CEAC data and then we will understand a lot more. The CEAC data is all the case status info for every case โ but again we will not have DV2020 CEAC data until January 2020. In the meantime, you can see excellent visualizations of the DV2018 and 2019 data at the site maintained by a smart guy call Xarthisius. The site illustrates well the density, response rate and so on, which are things you will hear me explain (and can read about on my site).
How many visas can be issued for DV2021? How about XXX country?
According to the published information, there are almost 55,000 visas available globally. However, the visas are allocated through a quota system to each region. They are NOT allocated by country. However, no one country can receive more than 7% of the global allocation. โ so regions have an allocation of the 55,000 global quota. This is explained in more detail here.
Can DV2021 be stopped by Trump/Republicans/Aliens?
This was fully detailed in this post from August 2017. Since then, Trump and the Republicans have continued to achieve almost nothing, and there has been no credible progress toward immigration law changes. Please read that article, and donโt ask me the same questions again until an actual real law is passed.
GROUND RULES for BritSimonSays.com
I donโt work for the government, I donโt get paid for this. I work for a living and I sleep sometimes. So โ I expect people to respect my time. That means the following โrulesโ exist on my site.
- Read the DV lottery guide. It includes a link to my guide on how to complete the DS260, an overall rough idea of the process and so on.
- READ the FAQ (frequently asked questions). If you ask me a question that is covered in the FAQ, you are wasting my time. Please help me help you and others that need help
- Learn how to use the search feature and translation features of this site.
- Post your questions in English. Like many of you, I am multilingual but English is a common language – and most Americans ONLY speak English, and mostly, not very well ๐
- If asking multiple questions, number your questions and consider how I can answer the question. Consider how I can answer with a simple yes or no or short answer – you will find I ALWAYS answer questions like that, because you considered how to make the answer easy for me to give. Give me enough detail to answer the question without making me read about your life history for 10 minutes. I do ignore some rambling questions that send me to sleep…
- Do NOT post “are you sure” type questions – I simply HATE that. It is a huge waste of my time to have to deal with that type of follow up. Read my answer 10 times if you need, but unless you are CONVINCED I misunderstood or answered incorrectly, don’t ask me the same thing I just answered.
- Post your question once and wait for a reply. Sometimes your post wonโt show up on the public page until I approve it. That doesnโt mean you should post the same question 5 more times. Just wait.
- If following up to a question you already asked โ use โREPLYโ to keep the questions in context. I see an administrators view of the questions โ I donโt always see that one question is close to your previous question, but I am able to jump to the thread if you use reply.
- Donโt expect me to know everything about life in all the countries around the world. You may not have left country A โ but you should consider that the world does not all work the same way as country A.
- Tell the truth. Donโt lie to me. I hate it โ and it is pointless. This process requires honesty. So do I.
- Keep your data private. Your case number should be quoted with region and year, but you donโt need to give me, or anyone else, a precise number. Give a range by โX-ing outโ the last few digits. So โ if your number is 2019AF000012345, you can quote your number as 2019AF12XXX. That tells me you are about the 12000 to 13000 range in AF region in 2019.
- Every year I get a few characters that drive me nuts. There is the person that asks every single question that pops into their head. If someone is making use of the info here, that should not be necessary. Take some responsibility for your own case. Second I get some smartasses that get uppity with me over one thing or another. I could argue for England, I enjoy a good argument, but this isnโt the place for that and I am too busy. I will not hesitate to delete messages I find annoying or damaging to other peopleโs chances. Some people are amazed when I do that – but this is my blog. If you want to argue because you think you know better, just find somewhere else to do that. Iโm not interested in feeding your ego, and I donโt care if you think I am arrogant, mean, a tyrant or whatever. Really โ I donโt care, so those โaccusationsโ donโt hurt me.
- This space reserved for any other rules I think of, whenever I think of them.

Hello brit.
I won dv 2021 from africa with case number 50xx..
My question is during dv entry i did not have passport and i selected the exemption option not to loose the chance..
Now i have passport and I fill ds 260 form with my current passport and kcc mailed me that i should send documents through email…
Do i have a chance..?
should i give explanation..?
August 27, 2020 at 22:07
According to the instructions they gave, you should be disqualified. However, I am not 100% sure you will be – so wait and see. It would have been more wise to not submit the DS260 yet.
July 13, 2020 at 20:41
Is there any hope for second draw for Dv 2021?
July 13, 2020 at 21:50
Probably not – but we won’t be certain until November.

July 18, 2020 at 02:56
Hi Brit
I am a DV 2021 selectee. one question to get clarified from you. I applied together with my family members and got selected. When my application is processed and have been asked to move to USA, do we all have to go there together or can the other family members move there later on?
July 18, 2020 at 04:21
The principal selectee can go ahead of the derivatives, but each person must enter before their visa expires.
July 18, 2020 at 06:21
thanks. after entering when can they leave USA again to complete their education in home country and return
July 18, 2020 at 13:32
What did it say in the FAQ?
July 19, 2020 at 06:31
Hi Sir,
Unlock and resubmitted of ds 260 form will reduce chances of getting visa?
Following are changes I made in DS 260.
1. Mailing address
The mailing address which I provided earlier is not well known address and I changed it.
2. Death year of my father
Actually his death year is at 2003 and mistakenly filled as 2002.
3. Name of my mother
My mother has single name and its fall into sure name but not knowingly I filled up in given name.
Is this mistakes are major or minor and will it effect to get visa?
July 19, 2020 at 14:47
As answered in the FAQ – No.
July 19, 2020 at 09:08

July 20, 2020 at 06:03
Hi Brit
I need our assistant to fell the form please
I was selected for 2021
I enter on October with a passport that got expired on november 2019, but i renew my passport already. Will i have any problem?
Also, while entered i was not get married and now i am since May 2020. What should i do please?
July 20, 2020 at 19:53
You will need to show old and new passports.
For your marriage, you should “add an applicant” to create a DS260 for your spouse. That is in the FAQ.
July 20, 2020 at 10:50
HI Simon,
Thank you so much for your help thus far! It’s very much appreciated.
I have completed the ds260 and when I go to sign, I enter my Case Number correctly and follow the prompts and go to press confirm and it comes up with an error with my case number but it’s correct. I’ve tried multiple browsers.
I’ve emailed KCC, have you come across this before?
Thank you,
Alex
July 20, 2020 at 20:47
Yes – and I have written some tips to help people – have you tried all that?
July 20, 2020 at 12:54
Hi dearย !
I am luckily one of the dv2021 selected or winner with over 14000 case number and my wife also has been selected with less than five thousand case number . My question is that which one of us should fill the or proceed DS-260 form . Me or my wife or both of us.ย We have two kids. My education and work experince is more than my wife . Please help and direct me . One thing more that what is the end date of submitting ds-260 form to KCC . Thanks.
July 20, 2020 at 20:48
Well obviously the question is whether your wife meets the education requirement or not. If she does, then you may as well process on her case.
July 20, 2020 at 13:05

You have to contact the SSA.
July 20, 2020 at 20:03
Hi there, my husband is applying for a green card through his work but also just won the green card DV lottery. It seems that two GC applications cannot run concurrently, so wondered if you knew of anyone that has been in a similar position and switched routes before?
The employment-based (EB3) application likely becomes current sometime next year, whereas the DV lottery is immediately current, therefore potentially faster.
We have done our medical examinations and are awaiting the biometric appointment for the EB3, so we’re fairly far along in that process. His lawyer hasnโt seen anyone switch before so we wanted to check if you know of anyone that has had experience with this?
Thanks very much!
Amy
July 20, 2020 at 22:11
“DV lottery is immediately current” – Nope.
What is your year/region/case number range?
July 22, 2020 at 15:25
Hi Brit,
Am a 2021 DV winner with the case number 2021AF12XXX, just got a mail from KCC DV saying that my case is current and i should send supporting document and that include my birth certificate which am to get by next week Wednesday. plan on submitting all require document at the end of next week
don’t know if it will be late or it’s okay.
July 22, 2020 at 17:45
1. The email does NOT say your case is current.
It’s not late.
July 24, 2020 at 02:45
Hi Brit
Nice to meet you.
I have a question about the submission of DS260(DV2021).
My case number is AS00033xxx.
It is high.isn’t it?
Shold I wait for me to submit DS260 until November?
We can’t see our future clearly now…
July 24, 2020 at 03:52
Yes its high. Wait for a while until we know more.
July 25, 2020 at 17:44
HI Brit
Thank you for your reply…!!!
July 28, 2020 at 01:11
Hello i have applied single for dv lottery. Now i am in the united states with GC . But soon i got the visa i got married. And still my status is single. So what is the procedure for me to file the pettion for my wife
July 28, 2020 at 01:28
You would file an I-130 process. I don’t advise on that.
July 29, 2020 at 17:19
hi simon
iwant ask abouts is there a second draw for dv lottery 2021 this year or not ??
July 29, 2020 at 17:36
Probably not – but you can check again in November.
July 29, 2020 at 19:54
Well, sorry, but What is the total winners for this year dv 2021 because in dv 2017 the number of winners was 83 k I want to know if there are statistics showing the number of winners this year if the winners are 85 k it is possible that a second draw right? Especially since this year, the number of visas is 55 k
July 30, 2020 at 21:17
We don’t have the numbers yet, but indications are that there are many more selectees this year.
July 30, 2020 at 16:38
Hi Brit, am a DV 2021 winner
2017 i got denied a B1 visa and on my DS-160 when filling my DS-160 form i listed my Daughter as my Child, the sad thing is she caught a sudden sickness and pass away before i filled my EDV form .
the question here is;
having include my daughter on my pass DS-160 form and now listed that i don’t have a child on my DS-260 cause up till now i haven’t got any kid
will it cause any complication for me at my interview?
July 30, 2020 at 22:16
Well, you might need to provide a death certificate.
July 30, 2020 at 19:17
Hello, Brit
I am studying in the US, but returned home during pandemic and currently continue online. After that, I found out that I was selcted at DV2021. My case number is fairly low EU2XXX, however, I can’t find the info about how the non-working consulates situation will affect the intervew scheduling. Is there a risk of not getting GC because of that? Does filling up DV-260 worth it or it’s better not to pursue it and just continue my education?
Thank you!!!
July 30, 2020 at 22:20
Things are very fluid at the moment – so it isn’t possible to give clear answers.
There is a ban in force which is being fought.
There is an election in November that may change things.
The pandemic affects will change processes in various countries.
So – if I were you, I would wait a few weeks at least.
August 2, 2020 at 21:44
Hello, again Brit
Thank you for your previos reply. I know, the situation is totally bazare. The thing is that
1) I am afraid that if I wait even longer than now to file DS-260, I could just not to file it at all, because it is already late timing.
2) This year I got into fellowship, which covers my whole tuition cost for graduate school. After this online-only semester at school, I will have to return to the States to continue grad studies in-person.
3) Considering the fregile dv lottery terms this year, what I have in my mind is the dilema: the risk of not getting green card + losing my scholarship and the time VS finish education on time and cost free, but no GC =/
4) I need to make a decision since if I file DS-260, I assume that I won’t be able to get F-1 visa and travel to the US.
c r a z y =(
Looking forward to your comment.
Sincerely,
Stanislava
August 3, 2020 at 03:56
1. It’s not late. RELAX!
The rest of the questions are not really questions at all.
August 3, 2020 at 11:50
Yes, Brit, I apologize for my verbosity. You are right – the best thing is to wait out a little bit before making the decision.
By the way, I have read your article about needing/not needing a lawer for dv paperwork. You are 100% right!!! I already consulted with 2 immigration lawers and realized they have never dealt with such situations at all. Your blog is a life savior!!!
Thank you so much for your time and commitment!
July 31, 2020 at 08:21
Hello, I apologize if this question has been asked before. Just out of curiosity, what was the highest case number you have heard about for DV2021 EU Region? I appreciate the feedback. E.
July 31, 2020 at 21:53
Over 50k
July 31, 2020 at 12:18
Hi Brit,
I appreciate all your help
My father won dv lottery 2021. He is the principal applicant. He misspelled my siblings (derivatives) first names on the original entry.
1. Can this cause a visa denial or is it a minor mistake and don not affect visa approval?
2. Is it okay to fill out the ds-260 with the correct version of my siblings first names by editing gheir names?
3. Will councilors who approves our diversity visas have access to our original entry to match it with our filled ds-260 or will they only have access to the ds-260 provided to them by KCC?
Thank you so much.
July 31, 2020 at 22:06
1. Minor mistake.
2. Yes
3. They will see the original entry info.
July 31, 2020 at 17:28
Hello Brit. Thank you for your support in Dv we are really appreciate…
I’m 2021AF 12*** ,I send my doc with second confirmation number instead of first confirmation number, what to do? Is it a mistake to be Amended.. Thank you
July 31, 2020 at 22:10
I don’t know what you mean.
August 1, 2020 at 06:28
After being selected they give you confirmation number, and after filling ds they give you case number without zero and also confirmation number, in that case when I was sending my documents in text messages I put the confirmation number used after submitting ds , and I thought I should put the one given after being selected…. Is it a mistake?
August 1, 2020 at 14:51
Again, you are not making any sense.
Upon entering the lottery you get your confirmation number. That is what you use to check if you are selected.
If selected you get a CASE number. Like 2021AF00012345.
The DS260 also shows a DS260 confirmation number. You don’t use that.
July 31, 2020 at 22:37
Hello sir
I am 2021SA88 * when filling in DS I put an incorrect date in the part of the title, that is to say the same year but different month, do you think you should unlock and fix this error
July 31, 2020 at 23:04
Yes
August 1, 2020 at 03:09
Hello brit.after filling my ds 260 online form i entered my case number without the leading zeros and my passport number and then clicked on the selective service link since am below 26 years but it has never been submitted.i have tried several times but it is not working..assist please.case no 2021AF00019XXX
August 1, 2020 at 14:45
I submitted it. The form was ready for submission, but you probably did not click on BOTH the selective service and the FGM links.
August 2, 2020 at 17:15
Hello brit.now that my ds 260 form is submitted.when should i send the require/supporting documents to KCC
August 3, 2020 at 03:44
When they ask you.
August 2, 2020 at 18:54
Hello!
(1) If you submit the DS260, but then a few months later you get a new job, do you have to unlock and change the info to include the new job? Or is the DS260 fine as it was correct at time of submission?
(2) Similar to Q1, I am a current student, and listed that as my current employment, but I expect to graduate in Feb 2021, which should be before the interview. Do you need to change that, or just explain that I graduated?
(3) Does TikTok count as social media? It is not listed in the drop down menu (though there is ‘other’ which would cover it). Considering the noise Trump is making about TikTok, could it work against us to include an account?
Thanks!
August 3, 2020 at 03:46
1. It is not necessary to update every job change.
2. Same.
3. Yes include it.
August 2, 2020 at 20:30
Hello Brit.
I have won DV Lottery 2021 and my number is EU33XXX.
In your opinion, will this be high case number for DV 2021?
Also, after we submitted DS-260, I have read a few comments here where you recommend to people with higher case numbers to wait some time before sending the DS260 form. Can I get some explanation, why is this suggestion given, how the time of submitting is relevant for processing the case?
Thank you in advance.
August 3, 2020 at 03:48
It is too early to know how how that is – for now, wait. And while you wait – read some of the many explanations I have given that answers the second question.

I win the dv lottery 2021 but i play with my husband and kids. Also i have not married my husband legally, so i want to find out if it would not be a problem. Also i do play it in South korea meanwhile i am Cameroonian. Can i apply and do it in my country? Thanks
August 5, 2020 at 00:30
Including a spouse on your entry when you are not actually married can lead to denial, yes. However, the only way to be sure is to go though the process. You interview wherever you live.

Mr. Saimon, I am the winner of 2020, but a friend won 2021, he has already sent his DS but his girlfriend is pregnant and he wants to change his status from single to married so that he can take his future wife and son with him, they have been 5 years of relationship and ignorance they were not married before sending DS. He is case number SA42 ** and has not yet received his email requesting documents. What a chance there is to unlock DS, get married and add your family. the girl gives birth in February. Thank you
August 5, 2020 at 03:15
That is a high case number, so it will be a long time before the case is ready – plenty of time to get married and add the child once born.
August 4, 2020 at 21:35
Hey Brit
I think you are ok and your family, I am a DV 2021 selectee. one question to get clarified from you. I forget my date and month of birth how can I recovered in order to complete my ds260
August 5, 2020 at 03:23
You can’t recover it. You are supposed to know your own birthday. You can try each day…
August 6, 2020 at 04:48
Hi Brit, Greetings, I am a DV 2021 winner with Case number 2021AS00019XXX, do you think this is a good number and i would get the opportunity to be interviewed? and do you have any idea of which case number might be under process with KCC currently?
Thank you from your response in advance!
August 6, 2020 at 19:12
We don’t have selectee numbers yet – and we expect to have that in the next VB – so wait a week or two for more info.
August 12, 2020 at 14:02

August 12, 2020 at 23:54
Did you read the FAQ?
August 13, 2020 at 10:29
Hi Simon,
Thank you for your support to DV winners!
I have many questions and appreciate your response in advance:
My Case Number is 2021AF00000XXX, is this high number or no?
I submitted DS260 form for me and my family, and currently sending the required documents to KCC and I have an issue, I sent all required documents many times with following the naming and documents instructions but every time I receive the same email!
“Thank you for submitting your Diversity Visa documents to the Kentucky Consular Center (KCC). After reviewing your documents, KCC has determined that you have not sent the required documents for review. Please review the required documents listed below and verify that you have submitted all required documents.”
I tried to send the documents in these schemes:
2021AF00000XXX_FirstN_LastN_Birth_Certificate.pdf
2021AF00000XXX_FirstN_LastN_Birth_Certificate_Translation.pdf
2021AF00000XXX_FirstN_FatherN_GrandFather_LastN_Birth_Certificate.pdf
What I’m sending every time:
2021AF00000XXX_FirstN_LastN_Passport.pdf
2021AF00000XXX_FirstN_LastN_Birth_Certificate.pdf
2021AF00000XXX_FirstN_LastN_Marriage_Certificate.pdf
2021AF00000XXX_FirstN_LastN_Police_Certificate_Saudi_Arabia.pdf
2021AF00000XXX_FirstN_LastN_Police_Certificate_Egypt.pdf
2021AF00000XXX_FirstN_LastN_Military_Certificate.pdf
Other Documents:
2021AF00000XXX_FirstN_LastN_Identity_Card.pdf
2021AF00000XXX_FirstN_LastN_Graduation_Certificate.pdf
2021AF00000XXX_FirstN_LastN_Work_Experience_Certificate.pdf
Could you answer please, what is the issue exactly?
Thank you in advance!
August 13, 2020 at 16:27
Well for a start – you should not be sending the “other documents at all. That is just complicating things.
Have you checked the size of the email to see if you are going over 25meg?
If not – call KCC.

Hello BritSimon,
Thanks for all the help and pointers. I need help with two possible issues with my Case. My Case number is AF89XX, I submitted my DS260 late last week, Please let me know your thoughts/guidance on below two issues.
1. My Sons PP has not yet been processed so Under Document Type, I selected OTHER TRAVEL DOCUMENT, Could this potentially lead to a disqualification? What should I do about this? Kindly advice.
2. I made a single Letter mistake on my sons form under US permanent address, Should I ask for unlocking of the form to change this or I leave it as is since mine is correctly captured, kindly advice.
Many thanks.

Hello Sir…
I am a DV2021 winner from Africa. I already completed my DS-260 as SINGLE… I want to marry my girlfriend in December, inshaa Allah. However, we agreed she won’t join me in the immigrating to the U.S for now…
1. Is it safe if I carry on with marrying my girlfriend?…
2. Will that in any case affect my interview?
THANKS IN ADVANCE
August 13, 2020 at 22:07
1. Yes. You should make sure your DS260 is updated accordingly, once married.
2. No
August 13, 2020 at 23:14
Hi Brit,

2. Does it also match with experience?
Thanks
August 13, 2020 at 23:47
The questions are simple and clear.
August 14, 2020 at 18:03
Hi Brit,
I’m a DV2021 winner, Case number: 2021AF10XXX.
1. Are my chances hiigh or low?
2. I’m still working on some documentation, around which month should I submit my DS260 so that again I’m not late?
Best regards
August 14, 2020 at 23:00

2. Anytime from now – but you can delay for months if you want.

Hi Brit,
My mother was selected for the DV2021, together with my father and brother.
She completed DS260 but I am concerned if that is completed well or not.
On 1 March2020 she and my father was traveling to the US. Long story short, my father got a ban entry for 5 years to the US. He had all the documents declaring this statement and the reasons for this ban.
My mother on the other hand, had no issue with her visa but she volunteered to turned back together with my father. This is what she told me, but as she doesn’t speak English I am not 100% sure about her case. She had with herself a document declaring she is an Inadmissible Alien though. I did contact the embassy to understand her visa status and what “Inadmissible alien” means in her case, but due to Covid I didn’t have an answer.
While filling the DS260 for them, I declared that my father was deported/removed from the port of entry in his last visit to the US.
What should I write for my mother?
I have no clear information about her status. Can this unclear issue by resolved at a later phase? Where should I provide this documents?
I want to make sure I have declared their case correctly.
Thanks in advance!
August 15, 2020 at 15:43
Without knowing the nature of the incident that caused the ban, it is impossible for me to say how your father will be affected. He may not be able to process through DV. Your mother may be admissible, but you should not be guessing whether she is inadmissible or not. I suggest you discuss this with a lawyer before proceeding. The costs of processing the DV are fairly high, so you should not just try your luck.
August 15, 2020 at 17:29
Thanks Brit!
When they arrived at the JFK the border control interviewed my father and they thought he worked during a Tourist Visa. He couldn’t explain himself, got stressed and confused. He admitted he took 20 – 50 $ while helping people with fixing things. The stress he got from that situation has made him to have no desire to go to the US. I am aware his case is probably lost.
Regarding my mother, which is the main applicant, she was only requested to sign about volunteering to leave the country with my father as they were together in this trip.
The lawyer who helped my preparing the DS 260 advised to write things as they are. We are not aware of what the situation is and we should fill up the file for what we know and not for what we think it might be. It is good that I emailed the US embassy to inform about the incident and to request more information about her status. I hope I will have a reply soon.
After having more information from the Embassy, will I be able to make changes on the DS260 at a later phase?

Hi Mr Simon pls I want to know about the 7% or 6% number of selectees from each country to receive a visa in relations to the 55000 visas available is there anything like that? I heard no country exceeds 7% of visa of 55000 available
August 21, 2020 at 04:08
“no country exceeds 7% of visa of 55000 available”
That is correct.

Hi Simon, the question on travel history on DS 260 “Have you traveled to any countries/regions in the last five years?” comes under Work/Education/Training section. We have traveled a few counties for leisure. In this case, should we answer ‘No’ to this question or state the countries pls?
August 22, 2020 at 17:29
List the countries.

Good morning sir.
Who decide to put a case dv on AP(administrative process), Kcc or the embassy and why?
Thank you sir
August 23, 2020 at 21:00
The embassy. Various reasons such as additional background checks, missing documents and so on.
August 23, 2020 at 17:00
Hello Mr. Simon,
As a selectee with number 2021EU000061XX, I’m currently in the US, with H1B application extension pending (which has been submitted about end of July 2020). Based on current processing times, I should be expecting the answer from USCIS around mid October. Would it be safe to wait until then (possible a bit later) and apply for AOS right after. Or is it strongly recommended that I file for premium processing now and be eligible for AOS asap?
Thank you!
Maya
