I’ve gathered the Historical Visa Bulletin Numbers from various sources for a few years to give an idea of progression in previous years and I will maintain these numbers as future Visa Bulletins are released.
Knowing visa bulletin progression is sometimes a useful reference, and is certainly interesting. To use the data, click the tab for the region you are interested in and check the cutoff number for the month.
There may be some similarities with number progress from year to year, but there may not. So – don’t rely on these numbers as a predictive guide for this year. One thing that confuses people is that the selected numbers vary each year depending on entries and other factors. For instance, certain countries in the past have had huge entry numbers and once those countries are excluded from the lottery the range of numbers selected changes from one year to the next. That was the case in 2014 to 2015 in AF region when Nigeria was excluded, or in Asia in 2012 to 2013 when Bangladesh was excluded.
To understand how to read the Visa Bulletin works and can be read – please check out this article.
What does CURRENT mean? That is published when KCC believes that there are enough visas for all remaining demand. All case numbers can then be interviewed.
If you prefer a direct link to the data you can see that here.

Hello! not particularly important questions. Where might I find the total numbers of selectees for 2019? Has it been released yet? why does EU CNs start so high most years 8000s 9000s, and then last year it started in the 1200s? Probably these questions have been asked already. But I can’t find them. I did google them but nothing doing.
June 13, 2018 at 21:20
EDIT; Sorry, last year EU started at 2600, while, the year previous was 8500 and 8150, 8500 and 8000. were did all the new numbers come from? Brexit?
June 13, 2018 at 21:26
LOLOLOL
Not Brexit, no.
June 13, 2018 at 21:21
2019 not published yet.
Last year the DS260 processing was changed (made much faster) and it meant there was no need to have such a high starting number. I explained why last year. If you are really interested – read some of my older articles.

No – it means what I have said 10,000 times.

June 17, 2018 at 20:36
We don’t know anything about DV2019 yet. We will know more in the coming weeks when we see selectee counts etc.
June 17, 2018 at 20:38

June 19, 2018 at 13:15
My case number is 2018As123xx
June 19, 2018 at 17:56
Then a LONG time – probably at least 1 year.
June 19, 2018 at 17:56
It depends on the case number.
June 19, 2018 at 15:29
Hi! Do you think that 25900 will have an interview date?

Wait and see.
June 19, 2018 at 19:32
Hi Mr, Birt
Second letters are started to send or not yet
Thank you
June 19, 2018 at 19:36
When they start, you will see people report that on the blog and you will see a blog post from me.
June 22, 2018 at 14:02
Hi Brit, firstly awesome website, you’ve done an amazing job. Wondering if OC1679 is not looking likely this year?
Cheers!
June 22, 2018 at 14:14
It has never looked likely, BUT the last VB was a good move toward it – and might give a chance *IF* they redistribute visas. Bottomline – wait and see.
June 24, 2018 at 10:13
Hi Brit,
just found your awesome website!!!
Any chance with EU2018 cn 26xxx to get an interview ?. EU seems to be very slow moving somehow.
Whats your prediction ?
Thanks
June 24, 2018 at 14:19
I don’t know. Wait and see.
June 25, 2018 at 05:57
Hello Brit

June 25, 2018 at 16:23
I don’t know. Wait and see.
June 29, 2018 at 14:41
hello Brit, I hope all is well and first I want to thank you so much for this wonderful website.
I was selected for the DV lottery 2019, I understand that appointments will start in October. my case number is 15023. I live in Cairo Egypt. historically, when did this number had an interview? when do I fill out the application for Aramex (delivery system) online?
thanks again
June 29, 2018 at 14:43
I will be well into 2019 before you interview. Until then, just be patient. You register with Aramex when you get your interview date.
July 3, 2018 at 22:07
Hello BritSimon, do you think 2018EU000328XX can get an interview this year?
Also, do you know if we can apply to next year’s lottery while we’re still waiting for this one’s result to increase our chances?
Thanks!
July 3, 2018 at 23:10
You’ll have to wait and see whether you get current or not. It seems unlikely though.
The DV2018 year will end on September 30th. DV2020 would not start entries until October.
July 4, 2018 at 17:04
Hi Simon. In As64xx . According to ur stats. Does it mean they will interview me in May or does it me they will just contact me in May for a June interview ?thank u for ur patience in helping us numb nuts
July 4, 2018 at 21:07

July 4, 2018 at 20:22

July 5, 2018 at 13:46
Dear eu2018 31*** have chance or not?
July 5, 2018 at 15:04
I don’t think so – but in a few days we will know for sure.
July 6, 2018 at 05:20
In this case, it means lottery will be not usefull?
July 5, 2018 at 14:21
Hello BritSimon, I have a question, is there a visa fee for the SA region? I say it because according to the record of previous years I see that in 2017 it was 1700 but I do not know if that was an unusual behavior or it is normal. regards
July 5, 2018 at 15:06
I don’t think you mean fee – you mean quota.
Yes there is a quota – a percentage of the global available visas. DV2017 was over the quota – which happened because another region was under their quota.
July 5, 2018 at 17:55
If correct, I wanted to say a quota. what would be the percentage or number of quota for SA in this dv2018 ???? and do you think that the current of the other regions affects this quota or that it may increase?
July 5, 2018 at 18:10
Please read some of my previous (recent) articles where I discuss that in detail. FYI the quota for SA at 50,000 is about 1500 (i.e. 3%)
July 6, 2018 at 09:16
Hi BritSimon my casenumber 25540. What you think next Visa bulleten. Thank you
July 6, 2018 at 14:15
I don’t know.
July 7, 2018 at 07:45
Hey Brit! Firstly, I wanted to thank you for all you do for us! We all really appreciate your time and effort. I have got a question if you could take your time to answer. If there gonna be a second draw or more likely not? And when was the last second draw? My case number is 31*** and whenever I sent a message to KCC, they don’t give a straight answer to me.
July 7, 2018 at 15:44
You have a case number – why do you care about a second draw???
July 12, 2018 at 10:58
Remained the last days before the release of the bulletin for August 2018.
But maybe someone will be interesting about the status of the curents, in what years it was and what it was depending on the regions of the regions.
Here is a screenshot of Europe, Asia and Africa from 1995 to 2018.
The most suitable for our year is highlighted in gray.
Sorry for my bad english 🙂
July 12, 2018 at 14:58
I took your link out because the data is my data linked above.
July 13, 2018 at 14:24

July 13, 2018 at 15:08
Good afternoon!
Do you have any idea why it was Current for Africa and now it is 39,500?
And is there any visa bulletin coming for 2018 or this one is the last one?

July 13, 2018 at 16:52
Hi Simon,
I’ve seen the final dv bulletin and find out that I’m out 🙁
Mi case number is EU33100.
Do I have any posibility maybe for next year?
What do you think?
Thank you so much for your help.
Ana
July 13, 2018 at 16:59
Your DV2018 case number carries no benefit to DV2019. Future draws are random selection.
July 13, 2018 at 17:09
So that means no possibilities and I have to apply again for lottery for 2020?
July 13, 2018 at 18:31
Correct
July 17, 2018 at 20:44
Little remarks:
-2018 not complete
-“Oceana” -> “Oceania”
-Is it possible to add for every year the number of selectees?
Let me know if I can help you with that, I’d be glad to help you out.
July 17, 2018 at 22:49
LOL – you are grading my work! 🙂
Yeah maybe – but the number of selectees is somewhat abstract – it doesn’t tell the whole story.
July 20, 2018 at 16:46
Dear brit
I am closely following the historical visa bulletin numbers in your blog and the cut off numbers of the month in the AF region. For instance in 2017 from Oct, Nov, Dec is 8000,13500,20400.what does it imply? Does it mean 8000 was the first case number interviewed and by November they had interviewed 5500 people in AF region.
July 20, 2018 at 17:27
Please read the FAQ about reading the VB.
July 30, 2018 at 09:02
Hi Bri,
I am from Liberia and pass the Diversity Visa and my case number is 47××××× do you think I should do the medical now or wait. What number do you think is been feel with now? Thank you for advice.

July 30, 2018 at 14:14
The way you wrote your case number I can’t tell whether it is 4700 or 47000 – and I have no idea of the year or region..

i interviewed on may 31th 20818 and was placed on administrative reviewed, however, I checked my status today
and its read my status was updated on 8/16/2018… dose that mean I will be call anytime soon since this DV program ends 09/30/2018???
August 23, 2018 at 21:12
You cannot infer anything from an update.
September 16, 2018 at 05:18
I am a little confused about the historical numbers, I just have a friend who’s number was 2017EU315XXX and he is with the green card now. My case number is 2019EU000299XX and I am wondering after which number should I look when comes about cut off numbers? 299XX (under 30.000) ? as this guy was at over 300.000 and was selected as a winner. AM I going to have any chance to be selected on 2NL? Thanks
September 16, 2018 at 14:48
The numbers change every year.
https://britsimonsays.com/dv2019-basic-questions/
September 16, 2018 at 16:22
I understand that, but looking at historical visa bulletins, they didn’t had 315XXXX, but they had 29XXX for EU region. However, 315XXX was selected for 2NL even if according to visa bulletin, they shouldn’t be. I wish they have it somehow more explanations on how these numbers work… according to their Visa bulletin, my number EU29XXX it’s a pretty high number, with chances that will not make to 2NL
September 16, 2018 at 17:26
You are somehow confused. In 2017 EU went current very early – meaning all cases numbers (including 2017EU315XX) were able to get interviewed. So – your point is incorrect.
However, much more relevent to your case, last year the cutoff for EU was at 25775 – and your number is much higher than that. So – you need to wait and see how the year goes…
September 18, 2018 at 22:02
Thanks for clarifying this. Now it makes sense. 🙂
Final question, and maybe more folks here with higher selectee number might be interested…
Since the DV 2020 submission will start soon, for those who are selectee for DV2019 on the higher number is there any issue to apply for DV2020, this is in case if they don’t make it to try for a 2nd chance next year? will I get disqualified if they find out that I’m already a selectee for DV2019? And let’s assume you make it and you’re selected, I assume you just don’t continue the process if already got the 2NL.
September 19, 2018 at 00:10
No problem on entering DV2020.
September 26, 2018 at 01:53
Hello Brit please can i have the bulletin for October month.
September 26, 2018 at 02:10
Yes – you can look at recent articles on my site or use google.
October 2, 2018 at 21:53
Hi dear
In bulletin of October 2018 it shows as 1000
Except: Iran 800
Nepal 600
What it mean exact……
It mean that the 800 selectee from Iran and 600 selectee from Nepal has been baned this month?
Please your explain
I tried to understand but I couldn’t
October 2, 2018 at 22:46
If you are from Iran, with number 801, your interview date will be 2 months later.
If you are not from iran or nepal , with number 802 your interview date will be 1 month later.
Meaning Iran and nepal will be interviewed later.
October 2, 2018 at 23:17
Always check the FAQ please!

October 10, 2018 at 18:01
Hello, Brit my question is my wife was was selected for the DV2018 as the main principal applicant unfortunately, when we went for our medical assessment my result din’t came out clearly and I had to repeat the exercise again. And when someone repeat the exercise it normally take up-to 2 months for the results to be send to the Embassy. Then, again our visa appointment was due so my wife and the child had proceed for the interview and good luck is they were all approved. My question is can I do an-application for DV 2020 just self) or I can do petition after they have settle so that I can join them in the US
October 10, 2018 at 22:09
There is no harm in entering DV2020, but most likely your wife will have to start an I-130 process.
October 11, 2018 at 07:59
Thanks, BritSimon for the clarification. Again, my question is should I include them when applying for DV2020.
October 11, 2018 at 17:20
Yes – but read the instructions carefully.
October 11, 2018 at 15:36
Hello Brit.Me and my wife have case# 15xx EU. We send ds260 in middle of September, when the number was already active in EU.. When do you think we will have the interview?

I had and it worked;). Thank you!
October 22, 2018 at 03:19
Hi Simon,
I got selected for DV2019 and my number is EU24XXX. I have a couple questions:
1. I noticed that I have made a mistake in my entrant information form. I was born in EU and I´m a citizen of EU. However, I am in Canada since 2 years on work permit, but I have put Germany as the place I am currently living. My 1 NL is stating Frankfurt, Germany as a Post. However, when filling my DS260 I corrected my mistake and chosed Canada for my Interview Place. Do you think I have a chance to get interviewed at all or do I get rejected right away because of my mistake? Also, should I inform KCC about my mistake or should I just wait and see?
2. Based on my high number and my mistake I am thinking about to take part in DV2020. Is this allowed or will this affect my current DV process?
Many thanks in advance!
October 22, 2018 at 14:27
1. Your DS260 should be accurate.
2, No affect.
October 22, 2018 at 21:23

Hi. How are you obtaining those numbers for this year until January? How far ahead can you get these? I’m EU24xxx and it’d be really good to know when next year I’ll have a good idea if I’m in or not. Thanks
November 22, 2018 at 15:40
LOL. You need to read the basics….

December 3, 2018 at 00:14
Dear Simon,
I have a small issue that I hope you can help me with. First, thank you so much for your blog, this is really helpful for everybody and I’m glad people like you exists.
My problem is the following. I was selected by the DV Lottery 2019 and my number is around 5000. I’m from France but I’m a student in NYC so I already have a visa. When I filled the DS-260 I asked for an Adjust Statut. After consulting lawyer by phone, it appears that it was a mistake because it’s much longer with an Adjust Statut than the classic way. So I send an email to KCC DV to change it and go back to France for my interview. They accepted my request and change it from adujustement of statut to Paris.
I received an email two weeks ago, telling me that my DS-260 was accepted.
Seeing my number I was supposed to get an interview in December. But still nothing. So I believe this modification delayed my interview.
I have to go to France the 19th of December anyway and for 2 weeks. But I’m afraid I’ll receive my notification when I’ll be back in USA and have to come back to France directly after.. So do you know, first, if it’s normal that I don’t have my interview notification yet? And second question, do you know how long it takes to receive the notification when there’s a delay approximately?
I’ll be very grateful if you could help me with this. Thanks and have a great day!
Kind Regards,
Marvin
December 3, 2018 at 04:11
Interviews are scheduled almost two months ahead of time, so, there may be some interviews remaining to be scheduled for January dates, but otherwise the next interviews will be setup for February. Adjusting status would have been easier – the lawyer you spoke with obviously was not aware of DV adjustment cases.
December 10, 2018 at 09:43
I seriously feel bad fr the 2017 cz their numbers become current b4 September..like actually in April …
December 13, 2018 at 16:37
Ouch, such a big EU fall for the next february. 10000 vs 10700 of DV2018, i was not expecting this.. starting to be worried about this unpredictable trend.
December 13, 2018 at 16:41
I EXPECT that they will cancel or modify this programme in next few years
