I’ve gathered the Historical Visa Bulletin Numbers from various sources for a few years to give an idea of progression in previous years and I will maintain these numbers as future Visa Bulletins are released.
Knowing visa bulletin progression is sometimes a useful reference, and is certainly interesting. To use the data, click the tab for the region you are interested in and check the cutoff number for the month.
There may be some similarities with number progress from year to year, but there may not. So – don’t rely on these numbers as a predictive guide for this year. One thing that confuses people is that the selected numbers vary each year depending on entries and other factors. For instance, certain countries in the past have had huge entry numbers and once those countries are excluded from the lottery the range of numbers selected changes from one year to the next. That was the case in 2014 to 2015 in AF region when Nigeria was excluded, or in Asia in 2012 to 2013 when Bangladesh was excluded.
To understand how to read the Visa Bulletin works and can be read – please check out this article.
What does CURRENT mean? That is published when KCC believes that there are enough visas for all remaining demand. All case numbers can then be interviewed.
If you prefer a direct link to the data you can see that here.

June 21, 2019 at 20:19
You have left it very late, but if you get ready to submit immediately, maybe you will have time.
June 27, 2019 at 16:20
Hi Bruce,
Looking at CN of Asia from 2009 through 2012 they are pretty high, like very very high. I have been trying to study all the material you have provided here and via other sources online. One thing I am puzzled about is these numbers for those years. I am sure it does not mean that KCC had selectees off the boundary limit, so how come we constantly saw such high numbers? Could we apply the holes theory to all of those years?
Since it is historical, it will be interesting to learn from the data we already have.
Thank you.
RH
June 27, 2019 at 21:07
That was because Banglasdesh was in the process (with MASSIVE levels on entry fraud). As soon as Bangladesh was removed the numbers dropped. So – it is not worth comparing to those years.

Hello Brit,
I did some statistics for Asia Region for DV2019. From October to May, there are 3014 visas issued to people from Asia region. We know that Iran and Nepal are two limiting countries in this region. The number of visas issued to the Nepalese is 2029 which is something normal but there are only 6 visas issued to people from Iran due to Travel Ban. Total number of visas is 3014 for Asia Region. If there weren’t any Travel Ban, the number of visas issued to people from Iran would be around 2000 and the total visas would amount to 5000.
I also checked average number of visa numbers issued to people from Asia in recent years. It is something around 6500.
I checked visa bulletin from 2017 to 2019. We know Travel Ban took effect in beginning of October 2017 and therefore didn’t affect DV2017. But visa bulletins are fairly the same for theses three years. Even the exemption cap they have put on Iran when all regions have gone current is the same.
Knowing that the Iranians cannot get their visas due to the Travel Ban why doesn’t DOS move visa bulletin faster for Asia region?
I mean they can make all regions go current sooner and only put cap on Nepal.
July 22, 2019 at 05:47
DV2020 hasn’t even started and you are already asking why don’t they do this or that. Patience.
July 22, 2019 at 14:48
Thank you for your response,
I didn’t talk about DV2020. I compared visa bulletin for DV2017 with that of DV2018 and DV2019.
As you know, DV2017 wasn’t affected by Travel Ban but visa bulletins move at the same speed for the Iranians in DV2017 and two following years, DV2018 and DV2019.
Case number AS00011XXX from Iran, for example, goes current in July or August whether it is DV2017, DV2018 or DV2019.
July 22, 2019 at 14:51
I’m struggling to understand your point. The Iranian cases were still scheduled. They still take up resources. Why do you think the ban would make that work go away?
July 30, 2019 at 02:16
Halló Simón, i have case number sa24** you think i have Anny chance? Thanks
July 30, 2019 at 04:47

Hello Sir,
I am from Nepal and currently living in United States with Student Visa, My case number is AS 2020AS 00009*** , what do you suggest about submitting DS260 ? Do I need to submit it now or wait more?
July 30, 2019 at 23:27
If you are adjusting status you can leave the DS260 for some months more.
July 31, 2019 at 15:45
Thank you for your kind reply Sir. Sir, I was looking on VB for previous year and was calculating when will I have chance for interview but I cannot clearly get the clue for Nepal as in the visa bulletin Nepal always has small case number compared to other region of Asia ( I mean slower processing), sir do you have any idea that with the case number about 9**** when I will have a chance for interview? Also do you have any idea that which is more suitable either AOS or embassy Interview in home country is more reasonable in case of Nepal.
Sorry for the long and stupid question?
July 31, 2019 at 21:15
1. Wait and see.
2. Learn about both methods and decide.
August 1, 2019 at 09:55
hy simon,
Since 1999, 5,000 DV numbers were offset to support the NACARA program. As there are very few remaining NACARA matters, going into 2020, the vast majority of these previously diverted 5,000 numbers will once again be available for usage under the DV program.
(Sources: https://www.shusterman.com/?s=+NACARA+2020

September 17, 2019 at 18:43
Dear Brit. i was selected for DV2020. CASE NUMBER IS 2020AF39XXX (what are the chances of getting and interview?). I submitted my DS260 form on the 23rd of May 2019. I am not quite sure what happened as Today i opened my submitted form on the CEAC portal just to have a look at it, and realized that there was a new section titled “social media.” It is with disbelief how i managed to submit the form without filling this section as I did not get any warning message from the portal indicating i missed out a section. So I emailed KCC today asking if I could adjust the info and they told me they could unlock my form. Do you think it is wise for me to unlock and update my form now given that your post states that these social media stuff was only introduced on 31st of May? if it was only introduced as from the 31st of May, how come my already filled and submitted form now shows the section? it keeps me worried-sick
thank you for your patience and kind response
September 17, 2019 at 20:49
You read my article that describes exactly this. So I don’t know why you are still asking…
September 17, 2019 at 20:56
please permit me rephrase my concern in a better way sir.
I submitted my DS260 form on the 23th of May 2020. Today morning I logged into the CEAC portal again just to have a look at my already submitted form and noticed with disbelief that I seemed to have omitted complete information on the Social Media section. So, I send an email to KCC, asking how I could get my application back on track and they replied they could unlock my form.
I dug the internet further and realized some bloggers mentioned that the section of social media was introduced on the 30-31st of May( wonder if this date is accurate too). Given that my application was submitted a few days before this and on my present form on CEAC, it seemed to have the section, I am not entirely sure if i actually skipped the section, or if it was added after I had submitted and even so it appearance there signifies I should include the information. will it be a wise idea to unlock my form given the circumstance?
Please advice.
Kind Regards,
K.

Hey Brit,
My case number for DV2020 is AS27xxxx, and I was born in Syria. So, do think I do have the chance for an interview, please?
And what does “current“ in visa bulletin mean please?
Thanks in advance
September 24, 2019 at 04:31
1. Yes
2. Read the FAQ
September 24, 2019 at 21:12
Hi,
Is there any reason Iran and Nepal have got same number of diversity visas for August?
Have they put a cap on Nepal?
Iran: 69
Nepal: 72
September 25, 2019 at 02:47
No. That simply shows that most Nepal visas were already approved in earlier months, and Iran received most approvals in the last couple of months.
September 25, 2019 at 20:05
Hi Brit,
Yoy made great efforts,

Thanks,

Hello Britt! Thank you so much for your amazing resource of a website. When I got selected for dv2020 I was 3/4 the way through an EB-1 green card application, I spoke to my lawyer and she was concerned with my high dv2020 case number so I filed the eb-1 application.
After reading through a lot of your site For dv2020 and looking at historical VB numbers it seems the chances for OC region getting through to current is ok. My question is is there any issues with filing my ds-260 while I have an eb-1 application in? The reason I would like to do this is the eb-1 application is not a guarantee either so I want to make sure I don’t waste my selection.
Thank you again
October 4, 2019 at 20:30
LOL – I had to chuckle at the idea that the lawyer was concerned at the high case number. The lawyer was concerned and the answer was to do something she could bill for. Right.
No problem having the DV process continuing at the same time.
Your number will get current.

My case number is 27XXX in Europe.
I read on your blog that kcc changed the request for documents, in fact they are contacting all people before their case number became current, but i’m Worried ‘cause I am not been contacted yet.
Why? What Should I do? Is it normal? When I will be contacted?
October 12, 2019 at 03:18

October 13, 2019 at 10:16

Thank you for the informative blog, super helpful!
I’m a DV 2020 selectee, however I haven’t heard from KCC yet to send my documents. Is there a chance I will be called for the interview? My case number is AF000672**
October 13, 2019 at 15:38

October 15, 2019 at 13:56

2.When my interview will schedule?
3.any more docs need to submit my embassy before come 2NL.
October 15, 2019 at 16:26
1. Just wait.
2. Once your case goes current.
3. No
October 22, 2019 at 07:06
Dear Sir
Hope this comment finds you will.
I received email from KCC in order to submit the required documents. Regarding this, I have the below questions:
1. one of the required document is Police Certificate from home country and the countries I have lived more than a year. I am from Afghanistan and have lived in Pakistan for many years. According to the US Embassy in Kabul, and US Department of State, I do not need to provide Police Certificate from Afghanistan, Iran and Pakistan if I used to live before. (https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/Supplements/Supplements_by_Post/KBL-Kabul.html#pre_interview_checklist).
Regarding to the stated issue, please let me know if it is must to be provided from home country and resided countries, or it is not and this justification is fair enough?
2. How long we have to provide and submit the required document to the KCC?
3. I am Pregnant and my baby will born on December 2019. Should I wait till December to add new applicant in my case and submit all the required documents along my new applicant documents to the KCC or not, I have to submit my documents and apply for my baby separately?
Looking forward and thanks in advance.
October 22, 2019 at 23:04
1. The direction is clear – surely. I don’t see what you don’t understand.
2. You can delay some months if you ant.
3. Wait and submit for the baby as well.
October 28, 2019 at 22:33
Hi Brit, i didn’t notice, maybe you explained, was there a second draw for DV2020? Thanks a lot!
October 31, 2019 at 20:13
Hi Brit . A winner of DV 2020. CN 2020AF485**.i contacted kcc to inquire if my scanned documents were satisfactory. They responded that if any document is missing they will inform me and if i have completed they will inform me as well. That i should give time for my documents to be processed. So my question is :
1)when can I be interviewed?
2)can I play DV 2021 while waiting
October 31, 2019 at 23:47
1 Summer 2020
2. Yes
November 1, 2019 at 22:10
Hi Mr Brit, I wish to ask how to track my case status without receipt online.
Secondly, i wish to know when USCIS gives out receipt
November 2, 2019 at 16:03
What receipt??
November 2, 2019 at 19:25
Hi Mr Brit. Thank you for your blog which keeps on updating us. I was advised by a friend to always know my case status. So to that effect I open the website and could only log in with a 13 digits receipt number if i had one. So my question is, when will this 13 digits receipt be issued to the selectees?
November 2, 2019 at 19:35
I don’t know what receipt you are talking about – so that’s a clue. Forget it!

Brit hi, do u think released VB numbers are too low for EU? I feel the chance to be current is no a bit low than u were predicting 2 months ago? Taking into account that only 10K are open for EU after 4 months….
Previously I was also waiting a bit more numbers as visas for 2020 are 55k comparing previous 50k, the winners for EU are less (even its 56k but still with holes) than last year… But something is really going wrong.

The only thing going wrong is your lack of patience. 8 VBs left. Relax.

Hi Mr Brit, I wish to ask if i should ask kcc when I should start with medicals because my friend whose CN is 2020AF000242** has already received the 2NL. My CN is 2020Af00048***
November 23, 2019 at 17:40
Your friend has NOT received the 2NL – just the documents email.
You have MONTHS to wait for your number so so NOT have the medical until you get the actual 2NL.

Hello mr Brit, sorry i got a wrong information about my friend. Kcc sent him a mail about medical insurance and a link was attached to the mail. Please can you estimate the amount needed to do the health insurance coverage
November 24, 2019 at 17:00
Can you get me the email/link he was sent?
November 25, 2019 at 05:56
Hi mr Brit, thank you for being there to us. I tried to get the link but my friend did not send it to me. He just said I should know its all about health insurance
November 27, 2019 at 22:40
The Healthcare insurance change has been blocked by a judge, so that should NOT be a problem.
November 26, 2019 at 22:49
Hi Mr Brit , can i ask kcc if I should do health insurance because I haven’t received the mail. Thank you
November 27, 2019 at 23:47
Health insurance requirement has been blocked – so for now it is not needed.

Hello BIH glad to read from you and from your name i can tell youre from Cameroon, Please my question, WHAT IS THE EQUIVALENCE OF “Police Certificate” in Cameroon? non-conviction certificate?:
December 22, 2019 at 04:58
Check the reciprocity page for Cameroon.
January 6, 2020 at 06:33
Hello Jerry….. Yes, it’s non-conviction
November 24, 2019 at 13:22
Hello lovely sir,
1.To clarify my case, in my case 1., I stated that I married my wife 2months before the results were released. ie. March 2019.
2. She failed 3 papers and passed 4 papers with C’s. in her 1st sitting.
I asked her to rewrite those ones that she failed and thanks be to God she had them with C4 in English, A1 in Mathematics and A1 in social studies.
3. In all she has successfully passed seven subjects ( 4 core subjects and 3 Elective subjects). Normally it should be 4 electives.
* but you said there is some risk and I’ll kindly please with you if you can let me know the exact risk.
Thank you
November 24, 2019 at 17:01
The risk being that they decide she did not meet the required education during her formal course of education.
November 28, 2019 at 13:51
Hi Brit,
question. I interchanged my names during application period example my name order Jerry Andrew became Andrew Jerry. Is that a problem? how and when can i sort it out?
Thanks
November 28, 2019 at 15:58
Wait and see if you are selected.
November 28, 2019 at 16:02
Yes I am selected for 2020 and at this point submitted the requested documents for further processing
November 28, 2019 at 16:41
OK, so as long as your DS260 is accurate you should be OK.
