It is always interesting to read interview experience accounts. Most interviews last a couple of minutes and have just a few questions about where you plan to move etc. However, occasionally I actually am more interested in the ones where the interviewer delves a bit deeper. So – this well written interview experience from “Mosh” in Kenya caught my eye and offers some good education for anyone preparing for their interview. Have a read of the interview – and consider the questions asked – and then read my comments about the questions.
interview experience

wife: brrr
he types for a few minutes then tells us congratulations all of your visas have been approved. asks us if we are happy then returns our original documents except pcc and pp. gives us green sheet containing instruction on how to register with dhl and pick our pp
OK – so why am I quoting this. Well in this case the couple had a customary marriage (common in Kenya and other parts – but sometimes difficult to prove). This slightly unusual scenario might have caused some doubt for the CO – so the CO (obviously an experience interviewer) decided to get a little more info. First the question about guests (sometimes couples will show photographs showing the guests and friends/community celebrating the customary marriage). Then there were a series of questions probably asked quite quickly (“rapid fire” I call it) which might seem irrelevant. The questions themselves are not important (by that I mean the amount of money someone pays their nanny cannot affect the DV process), but what is important is that you can answer these “rapid fire” questions naturally without hesitation. Your confidence in preparing paperwork, and being honest about everything relaxes you – and to an experienced interviewer they get a feel for those that are relaxed/confident and therefore truthful as opposed to someone who has something to hide.
So – I always tell people – tell the truth in all the forms and at the interview, be prepared (over prepared is better than under prepared) and relax. Most interviews are not as detailed as this and there is NO POINT trying to prepare for the questions. The point is the answers should be honest and your answers. If you do that – you will be fine.

Please, the CO damanded for my school documents and kept me on AP and I sent my school testimonials and letter of introduction from the schools to them. I checked my status and still it’s has been updated to AP. Please, what does it mean?
September 11, 2015 at 18:18
Sounds like you are still on AP – there is no way to tell any more than that.
September 11, 2015 at 19:39
So please what happens next if the required documents has been sent to the CO and again it has been updated AP? So will they issue the visa? Am worried!
September 11, 2015 at 20:00
The updates to the status may or may not mean something. I can’t tell you more about that. All you can do is wait and hope.
September 11, 2015 at 20:34
When the VISA STATUS CHECK will open for DV2016 my interview on OCTOBER so How I can check my visa???? Thank you
September 11, 2015 at 20:39
If you mean CEAC – that data is not loaded yet – and probably won’t be before you get your visa…
September 13, 2015 at 04:23
Hello,
My interview for AOS was on Friday. After getting home I received an email that states that welcome notice is being mailed ☺️. What confused me is that they said (expect your green card in two months). I know that after September 30th no more benefits can be granted to me. What should I do?
Thanks in advance.
September 13, 2015 at 16:15
AoS Green Cards come faster – BUT regardless of when you get the Green Card it is approval you need before September 30. So relax – you have no issues.

Hi Brit. Pls I attended a private classes and sat for high school common exams which is organised by west African examinations council. I may not necessarily get a formal school name to capture as my institution since I sat as a private candidate. I wrote the body that organises the exam as the institution on the ds 260. My interview is October in Ghana. Pls will there be a problem… My civil documents are all in tight. anyway. I’m a single lady. Can af1***
September 13, 2015 at 20:14
I don’t know if that will create doubt. Regardless of the school, name you will need the appropriate certificates from WAEC.
September 14, 2015 at 06:46
Hi Lydia, kindly email me on [email protected] when free. Take care ma sis
September 14, 2015 at 07:05
Please kindly assist me!!!
Please what school documents again with the CO be asking for? After submitting school results, transcript and certificates at the interview.
September 14, 2015 at 19:51
Take it all!
September 14, 2015 at 09:22
Gud Morning Brit
Please help me explain this to me Please!
I did my interview on September 8, 2015 at Monrovia Embassy
But the consular said the affidavit of support income is Low but place us on Administrative processing…Never show us a specific time to return with another affidavit but said if possible they will contact us..give us our passport back.
My question is Brit…The program is ending September 30, 2015, will be place on administrative processing till the program close or will we contacted for another affidavit before the end of the program Brit or that the end, have heard of any experience of that?
September 14, 2015 at 19:32
It sounds like you were told to provide another I-134 from someone with better income. You should do that ASAP or you will run out of time. Do it now.

Hi Simon,
In “Do you have documentation to establish that you have received the necessary vaccinations…” I entered “no” and explained “I will receive the necessary vaccination at the medical exam before the interview”. Is that a mistake or should I have answered “yes”?
Thank you.
September 14, 2015 at 20:59
Your reply was correct.
September 14, 2015 at 21:11
Thank you. Having read various forums where some say one should answer “yes” or otherwise the KCC may believe you are ineligible was beginning to doubt.
September 14, 2015 at 21:19
Those people are wrong – not that EITHER answer would cause an issue.
September 15, 2015 at 05:41
I wrote to the Embassy in Tirana and they answered that to that question the wright answer is “yes”. After that, I read a instruction doc where it was highlighted: “Answer always yes to that question”. So, I unlocked my ds and corrected….
September 15, 2015 at 11:04
That is an idiotic statement by the embassy in Tirana – but it doesn’t surprise me since they get other more important things completely wrong also at that embassy. My position is clear. NO is the correct answer UNLESS someone has the documentation requested already. However, neither a yes nor no answer will cause denial.
September 14, 2016 at 21:20
hi Simon,
what if you replied “NO”? is that ok as well?
September 14, 2015 at 20:49
hello Mr brit
i had my interview 2 september ,my case in AP 2 september in 10 september change to ready ,in 13 september change AP now 14 september in AP .
what does mean this ?i am confused????????
September 14, 2015 at 20:58
I don’t know what it means. All you can do is wait.
September 14, 2015 at 22:25
Hello Brit, is AF45000 safe and it safe when will it be current ?
September 14, 2015 at 22:33
I can’t be sure about that number yet. I would guess it should be OK but I don’t have data to confirm that.
It would be interviewed toward the end of the year – so August or September 2016.
September 15, 2015 at 07:48
Hello, is AF44xxx a good number for DV 2016 ? When can that number be current ?
While completing our DS 260, in the area of haven received the required vaccinations according to US law – we selected yes because we know by the time we are due for interview, we will take the required vaccinations and submit to the co. Is that correct or we should have said no ?
We are three of us in our case. Do we need an affidavit of support from the person who will receive us in the USA ?
September 15, 2015 at 10:55
1. https://britsimonsays.com/when-will-i-have-an-interview/
2. Your answer, while incorrect, will not cause you a problem.
3. That is wise to have available.
September 15, 2015 at 10:38
Brit
I have my another affidavit of support but no way to submit, email it no respond but still on AP..will I remain me on AP till the september just because of affidavit that I another Brit?
September 15, 2015 at 10:43
Your question is not clear, but you have only two weeks to sort this out. You cannot get a visa past 9/30.
September 15, 2015 at 11:19
I did my interview but consular said low income never requested for new one but placed on AP on ground maybe she will contact if the need arises…so will I still on AP till the program Close? Or will be contacted to submit another affidavit of support?
September 15, 2015 at 11:24
Hello Mr BritSimon
it’s two weeks till my interview now “was 1-sep-2015/Cairo /CN :303**”
CO approved my interview and give the white congratulations page to me. But CEAC say me and my old
sun in AP But the rest of my family are Ready
No Phone Call from Embassy No E-mail that Requested any Documents
So .. could you explain to me what is going on regarding your huge Experience in DV
September 15, 2015 at 11:38
I can’t tell what is happening – sometimes cases need some additional checks. All you can do is wait.
September 15, 2015 at 11:54
Thanks a lot Mr BritSimon .
September 15, 2015 at 12:29
Dear Simon
I read your article about affidavit of support but still I am not clear about the annual income that my sponsor should have.So please suggest me how much annual income should he have for supporting us? We are THREE and my sponsor is UNMARRIED.
Thanks
September 15, 2015 at 12:30
So look up the link for a family size of FOUR people.
September 15, 2015 at 15:34
If it is $25000 annual income then it can cover four people.Am I right Simon?
September 15, 2015 at 15:54
Sounds like it….
September 16, 2015 at 00:42
Thanks a lot for your response

September 16, 2015 at 18:00
Please, I had my interview on 2 September, the CO requested some document and updated my status to AP, I sent the documents on 11 September, status updated to AP again and also 16 September, my status was updated again to AP. Please, any explanations or suggestions?. Thanks
September 16, 2015 at 21:29
Nope – just more waiting. That is all you can do.

September 17, 2015 at 16:02
1. https://britsimonsays.com/when-will-i-have-an-interview/
2. Now. It takes 3months to process your form – so a delay in submitting it can cause a delay in your interview.
3. https://britsimonsays.com/all-about-public-charge-affidavit-of-support-i-134/
4. You are too old for the army. Police might be possible. http://www.militaryspot.com/enlist/what-is-the-maximum-age-limit-for-each-branch-of-the-military/

September 17, 2015 at 16:41
Hi Brit,
My cousin and his friend live in North Dakota and are doing a joint affidavit for me, my wife and my daughter. they are already five living together in his house. My question is, how much income do they need for it to be ok??
September 17, 2015 at 17:45
The method to check that is described in the link below.
https://britsimonsays.com/all-about-public-charge-affidavit-of-support-i-134/
September 18, 2015 at 09:58
hi Brit,
Is it advisable to have a joint affidavit of support? That is, two persons combining their income in the case where neither of them meets the level?
September 18, 2015 at 13:56
No – that just means both affidavits are useless.
September 18, 2015 at 10:11
are there 2016 winners from sierra Leone in this forum?if yes please lets keep in touch with regards to the various interview experience.
September 18, 2015 at 17:40
Hi Brit,
Sorry, I meant that both of them combined their income to send an affidavit since one of them income alone cannot reach the mark. Is that advisable?
September 18, 2015 at 17:43
No. Not at all advisable.
September 18, 2015 at 18:34
hi Brit after unlocking my DS260 i corrected some parts and save. on opening the next day it read complete of which i had not finished. is it the way it functions?
September 18, 2015 at 18:52

Thanks a lot buddy, you the best , that was very helpful
September 21, 2015 at 15:48
Hi brit , thanks for every things. Please tell me, it will take Howe many time to take you wife once there if you get married juste after you get your visa? Thanks
September 21, 2015 at 16:19
If you do not get your wife a visa through the DV program you will then use Family based sponsorship. That will take about 2 years.
September 22, 2015 at 22:47
‘ve been on AP since 2/09/15, all requested documents has been sent to the CO but my case keeps on updating every two or three days. Whats really happening and am left with only a week to the end of the DV 2015. Is there any hope?
September 22, 2015 at 23:40
I can’t guess what they are doing. As you say – there are only a few days left now – I hope it works out for you.
September 26, 2015 at 04:44
Hi Brit,
I am a winner of the 2016 DV lottery; When will they start issuing the 2NL for November interview? I mean when will they start scheduling applicant for November since the release of the November VB. Please help me share your idea as to how long it takes to receive your 2NL letter after the VB is released.
September 26, 2015 at 14:30
2NLs have not gone out yet – maybe Monday/Tuesday.
September 26, 2015 at 06:27
Hi Britsimon, my interview is due for next week and now I hear lots of things I have not read anywhere on the Embassy website about certificates being certified by the issuing authority, all my school certs and marriage cert are genuine and I have no doubt on them. In that case what does the Embassy do. My interview location is Nairobi. I seek you honest opinion sir. Thank you
September 26, 2015 at 14:29
Just present what you have…
September 26, 2015 at 09:08
Britsimon and or any Kenyan who is here can help with this information, who processes the confidential from KNEC, yourself or the Embassy?
September 27, 2015 at 13:37
Hello Mr Simon,I have interview on 19th October and my medical examination will be the 4th October ,so is there’s any problem,I mean the time will be enough to get my medical results to the embassy?!
September 27, 2015 at 14:20
Should be fine.
September 28, 2015 at 17:55
Dear sir, I’m a winner of dv2016, I’m Single and Having a Bank Statement $20T+, Should I still Need to fill I-134
September 28, 2015 at 17:57
Typically no you should be fine showing the bank statements – although some embassies might still ask for the I-134.
September 28, 2015 at 23:59
Brit my family and I had our medicals done today. We all recieved vaccines. Picking up results tomorrow. No matter the outcome we can’t wait to share our interview experience. I have another question my mum was not able to sponsor all 4 of my family members and herself so she sponsored myself and my first born and my friend did my wife and second born. Is that ok?
September 29, 2015 at 01:04
If you are talking about an I-134, there needs to be one form that meets the requirements…. not split up like that.
September 29, 2015 at 10:58
Brit another question.I have found another sponsor that meets the poverty guidelines. Can he scan the sign i-134 and email it to me or he must send it through courier.
September 29, 2015 at 12:54
You should have the original ideally.
September 29, 2015 at 10:32
Omg. We have trouble then. I’m going to try to see what I can do with a few days left
September 30, 2015 at 13:42
hello Brit,
I am dv2016 winner and my interview is on November.About six month ago i get a loan in bank and i will finished it after two years.Has any problem for my interview .
Have a great day.
September 30, 2015 at 14:55
No problem.
September 30, 2015 at 15:15
Hi Brit,
I am Iranian and Canadian citizen. I am the main applicant and selected for DV-2016 with my wife included in my application. We submitted DS-260 forms on Aug. 5, 2016. My case number is 2016As70xx. I have three questions:
1- How do you see the chance we interviewed and get visas?
2- Are we interviewed individually or together?
3- How much US cash I need to show in my account to waive from filling that sponsorship form?
4- Can we apply again for DV-2017?
Thank you in advance
September 30, 2015 at 15:20
1. As you are from Iran and with a fairly high case number there is a risk. If you are placed on AP in the last month or two of the processing year, there may not be time to complete AP by the end of the program. AP is more likely if you served in the Iranian military or worked for their government.
2. Together.
3. At least $10000 per adult.
4. Yes – no problem.
October 1, 2015 at 03:22
Hi Brit,
Thanks for answering my questions. I just served mandatory military service in Iran. Does it mean than they will pace me on AP? Next, I am a Canadian citizen. Will they place me on AP? How will they inform me if required?
tnx again
October 1, 2015 at 03:52
You will probably get AP. That AP only starts when you have your interview and that will be late in the year. That represents a significant risk that your case will not have time to complete. It is up to you whether to risk the fees or not.
October 1, 2015 at 04:34
Thanks Birt,
I take it that after interview they will do my AP (administrative processing) themselves and I don’t need to do anything, and will issue the visa if they get the result before Sept. 2016, so Is there any chance that they waive this process for me as a Canadian citizen? If not, approximately how long it takes for them to do my AP, so I can decide to pay the fees or not.
regards
October 1, 2015 at 05:21
Canadian citizenship won’t make any difference. They do the AP – and that can last a few weeks to around 4 months. If you were to interview in May, it would be less of a gamble, but your number means that won’t be the case. So – it won’t be certain at all.
September 30, 2015 at 18:45
Greeting Mr Simon,I want to ask about sponsor form,on embassy website I only found 1-134,my question is what about 1040 and W2 is this include on the same form or what?!….thank you.
September 30, 2015 at 20:06
The 134 is supported by the 1040/W2/Payslips/Passport
October 1, 2015 at 16:55
please am a 2016 DVlottery winner. but during my registration I made it single but now I am marry. I decide to go to the interview alone since I wont to settle there first before I later come for my wife..please I wont to know whether I will submit only mine or I will submit both of us..please help me out…
thank you
October 1, 2015 at 19:00
Your plan is a really bad idea. It takes about 2 years and a lot more money to sponsor a spouse later. However, If your wife does not want the DV Green Card then you simply don’t submit a DS260 for her, but change yours to mention your marriage.
October 1, 2015 at 19:40
currently she cant go with me now she has to stay for sometime..
but I submitted mine and her own DS 260…is written NOT STARTED YET….it is also written there boldy on the status that all applicants should submit their DS 260 before their interview letters are process. Does where I fear….I wont know whether I should leave it there or what else….currently she cant go with me .she has already signed a business contract here…
October 1, 2015 at 20:22
Again – you are being very foolish – because of a business contract???
If you are concerned about your DS260 – call KCC as they can see your status whereas I cannot.
October 1, 2015 at 18:44
Hi sir, I was wondering if having a tattoo has a problem in getting your US visa. Because I’m a winner an have a cross tattoo on my leg bearing my boyfriend’s name. Will a tattoo be a problem during the medical and interview? Thanks
October 1, 2015 at 20:33
Well as a father, I can say stop getting tattoos – especially names of boyfriends!! 🙂
However, it will make NO difference for the visa.
October 1, 2015 at 21:27
thank you although buh that word you use was too hash.
I know you support the idea that I should take her along to prevent any future problen but she will not understand. Please Brit should I change the status to marriage and leave it that way.?
thanks
October 2, 2015 at 00:28
Like I said – give KCC a call…
Then in a few years when you have spent years apart from your new wife and spent thousands on sponsoring her through a much more complicated process, send me an email and let me know if you still think my word was harsh.
October 2, 2015 at 09:50
ookk thank you Brit for all your advice on this platform you really going to get a reward for that..keep it up… but please one more question. .
during my registration I was single and I got married after my win…although I have all the marriage documents. ..I wont to know if is going to have effect on my interview. if I keep it married. .
please tell me what to do?
October 2, 2015 at 14:57
You GOT married. You ARE married. You must apply as married.
October 2, 2015 at 09:35
Thanks for the reply sir.
October 4, 2015 at 06:35
Hi Britsimon
Am 2015 AP casualty where hope couldn’t find me whereas my case was last updated on 29/09 and still on AP, please my Passport and original documents are still with the US embassy, London. They are supposed to sent my documents via a courier but as at now I haven’t heard from them and can something wonderful happened? By issuing the visa whilst online it shows AP?
Thanks for ur support.
October 4, 2015 at 17:31
It is possible, but not that likely, London are good about updating CEAC. You will need to wait a few more days. Or contact the embassy.
October 5, 2015 at 22:18
Hello Brit
My family and I were approved today at our interview for dv visa. Will give you details of our interview soon.
October 5, 2015 at 22:46
Awesome!!!
January 2, 2016 at 16:10
BritSimon
Hi
I had an interview on December 21, 2015 in US embassy different from my country of origin or birth and I am in F2A. After the interview the officer told me that they will inform me if they can give me the visa here or send my documents to an embassy to my original country of citizenship. when I checked on CEAC my case is still on Administrative Processing after more than 2 weeks, they didn’t inform me anything. What I don’t understand is that should they send my documents to my country, because I have requested NVC to change the embassy to where I am currently residing, they did that to me after I have submitted additional identification to NVC. So what is the need to send documents to my country, I hope NVC know that is possible to make interview in a different country.
I am really worried about the delay of my visa?
Do you have any idea about such cases?
Thanks

Dear Brit,
We had interview today at Kathmandu embassy @ 1.30pm. First we paid NPR 36,300/- ($ 330) each for VISA fee.then, all documents were submitted to window 4 and waited for few minutes, and then a girl called for figure prints on window 8, and then after 30 minutes CO called for Final Interview on window 7. She returned our original docs and kept photocopies .She asked us about our marriage date, how we met, validation about our documents, where we are going to USA etc. just few questions with very normal and comfortable conversation. At last after all, she said all set all fine “Congratulations…we will issue your visa”…you may collect your passport in about 2 weeks from your pick up point.
Happy Happy
Thanks for your support and your great work Brit…will be in touch
God Bless you all

There are frequent updates to all cases. Try not to read anything into those updates.
