One of the blog members asked for a page solely for people to post their interview experiences. So this is it – with some rules!!!
First – NO questions on this page. Let’s keep it for interview experiences only – good and bad. I will probably delete questions to try and keep the page focused on interview experiences
Please at least mention your embassy (city and country, like Accra, Ghana) and brief details about what questions you were asked and any interesting points about documents you were asked for and any tips you can give others. This will be useful to others who have not yet had their interviews. People could use the search function to look for their embassy.

April 1, 2019 at 14:09
Dear Brit,
I will like to bring to you the kind of experience we had today to see if anyone had ever faced similar situation and to get some advice as to steps to take.
We were scheduled for interview today April 1st at 9am at the U.S. embassy in Seoul, South Korea.
We arrived infront of the consular section at 8am well prepared. To our greatest dismay the security man checked and told us our names were not on any of the list of visa applicants for the day.
I noticed that since Koreans are not eligible to participate in the DV, it is very rare to see a case for dv interview here. It appears we were the only DV case and the security man (a Korean) looked very surprised to hear about such.
He gave us a number to call and present our problems which I discovered it was the customer service number because I had called the same number when I had difficulties registering my passport return address (one of the requirement on the checklist provided by the embassy).
We had to wait till 9am before calling since the consular service opens at 9am.
The lady who spoke to us asked us some basic information such as principal applicant name, case number etc. She told us she was going to forward a petition to the U.S embassy section regarding the situation and an email was going to be send to us.
We stayed in a coffee shop close to the embassy since it was very cold outside.
After waiting for an hour and no reply, we called a 2nd time and they told us they could do nothing till they get a reply from the embassy section. Being very nervous we kept calling at 2 hours intervals until we finally got this reply
“Dear Visa Applicant,
Thank you for your inquiry.
We have trouble locating your case number. In order for us to check your interview date/time, please provide your case number along with principle applicant’s surname and given name.
Regards,
Immigrant Visa Unit
Consular Section
U.S. Embassy Seoul.”
We sent a reply with all the information asked and called again and another customer service consultant took down all the information asked again. She said she was going to forward it again to the embassy section and asked us to wait around and see if we get a reply.
Finally when it was getting to 5pm we called again and the lady who picked up told us she was the one who sent the first petition of our case in the morning. She advised us to go back home that it was impossible for us to get an interview today. She asked us to send a scanned copy of our 2NL which indicated our official interview appointment date, place and time.
We asked her if it was possible to get a reschedule since it wasnt our fault and she said probably yes, if and only if they succeed to locate case number.
I have scanned both the 1NL and 2NL and sent to them. We are just praying for God’s intervention because it is so painful to prepare fully well and not even get a chance to be interviewed.
Please Brit Kindly share with us any advice you have.
Thanks
April 1, 2019 at 14:30
Well you *should* have had the 2NL printed out and with you – especially at an embassy that has almost no DV cases. All you can do now is hope they will schedule you soon. You could also call KCC and explain to them – but please go better prepared next time (including documents like an I-134, full education documents and so on).
April 1, 2019 at 16:14
thanks for your prompt respond Brit.
We had all our documents ready including the I-134. We presented the 2NL at the security post but it didnt make much of a difference as I think it was the first time of the security officer seeing such an interview appointment letter.
Also since he didn’t let us in, all we could do was to talk to a customer service consultant on phone with.
We explained to them that we had the official interview appointment letter and all other documents at hand and all they said was that we have to wait for a reply via email.
However we will also call KCC right away as you have advised.

Hi Simon
Im a selected as a dv lottery winner from Asia region(UAE) but currently I’m living in Pakistan so my appointment is scheduled in Islamabad pakistan embassy while Pakistani’s are not eligible for such program.
Im afraid after reading this case.
Can you please advice what should I do as I’m facing problem in online registration because they don’t have an option of dv program
April 22, 2019 at 04:58
Use your best judgment and prepare well.
May 6, 2019 at 16:39
Hi Brit,
Im done with interview
My case was put under administrative processing.
CO also said , they don’t need any further documentation. Case is closed everything is ok. We need some time to decide.
Im confused why they didn’t approve if everything is ok
May 6, 2019 at 19:05
Some cases go to AP simply because additional background checks are needed. It is hard to predict when that will happen and how long it will take.
You can check the status of a case on CEAC. https://ceac.state.gov/CEACStatTracker/Status.aspx
May 6, 2019 at 16:59
Is there any link where can I check my visa status?
May 16, 2019 at 10:07
Hi Simon,
My AP status has changed to ready what does it mean?
May 16, 2019 at 16:34
It **MIGHT** mean they have ended AP and are soon to decide your case. BUT you simply need to be patient.
June 5, 2019 at 22:20
Finally my AP is completed, visa issued.
I’ll share my detailed experience soon
April 22, 2019 at 21:16
Hi Javaria
I’m also a Dv lottery Asia region ( born in UAE ) currently living in pakistan. Can you please tell me what’s the issue in online registration or did you try to contact the embassy.
Thank you.
May 6, 2019 at 16:35
Hi Usman,
Sorry Just saw your reply.
Have you done with your interview?
May 6, 2019 at 16:42
Did you get your visa?
April 2, 2019 at 15:33
Interview April 2nd at 11am
My case was put under administrative processing.
The interview took place at the American embassy in Dublin, Ireland.
I’m an Irish citizen, my wife is a Mexican citizen but lived in the US for 15 years before moving to Ireland last year. While living in the US she was on the DACA program.
Our case was put on administrative processing because the embassy wasn’t sure if my wife was eligible for a green card through the DV lottery seen as the was part of DACA.
Can anybody shine some light on the situation?
Thank you
April 2, 2019 at 16:37
That is impossible for me (or anyone else) to answer with the limited details you provided. It depends on several factors about how she entered the USA, when she applied for DACA, whether she had any overstay/illegal presence before she left and so on. She might be subject to a bar from the USA in which case she could apply for a waiver, BUT that could take months to process. She might also have applied for a special “unlawful presence” waiver before she left the USA. It would have been wise to have discussed this with an immigration lawyer prior to the interview, but at this point probably your best bet is to wait for their decision.
April 2, 2019 at 18:12
Hey
She was brought to America when she was 15 on a tourist visa. She applied for Daca when it was announced, she was 24. Could you give me some info on applying for a waiver, or is it too late for that? Would it be wise for us to speak to an attorney now or is it pointless?
April 2, 2019 at 20:18
Again – this is too case specific. Speak to a lawyer or wait for the embassy.
April 2, 2019 at 20:21
Ok thanks for all your help
April 5, 2019 at 02:27
Marcus, can you please update me once this is all done? Whether you are approved or rejected? I have a similar situation like you. Thanks.
April 3, 2019 at 07:59
Hi Brit,
I went for my interview and I got lucky. The CO took my documents and said: “I had a successful interview but I have to send a particular document back to him before I can be approved”. There was nothing wrong with that specific document, it was just the old type. The CO needed the new specific type of the document.
The CO gave my passport back and a document detailed process to sending the passport and document required back to him but took the rest of my documents.
I can get the document within 3 working days after my interview.
1. Do my fast response to the CO request guarantee my approval?
2. When do you think I should expect any response?
3. If it’s approved, will I be e-mailed approval letter or it will come along with visa?
Thank you.
April 3, 2019 at 15:37
1. No
2. Wait and see.
3. I don’t know.

*Interview experience at accra embassy*
I came to accra a day before the interview just to come and relax and prepare myself since it was a long journey from my place to accra. I woke up around 3.30am and took a car from kasoa to circle and continued with a taxi to the embassy. I got to the embassy around 5am.. At about 7am, we formed a queue and were ushered by a police man to the gate of the embassy. They checked our appointment letter and we went to the scanning room. Our document and body was scanned and we proceeded to the main hall. At the hall a lady took our appointment letter and sent it to the boot 13. All dv applicant were called and briefed about the whole process and also the dollar to cedi rate. We were told to go to the cashier…. since i read extensively from the embassy website i knew the correct exchange rate amount to send. I was the first person to pay and submit my receipt . A lady then called me and took my documents as follows
*2NL
*DS-260 CONFIRMATION PAGE
*POLICE REPORT
*MEDICALS
*2 US SIZED PASSPORT PHOTO
*PASSPORT
*BIRTH CERT AND A COPY
*EDUCATIONAL CERT AND COPIES
I was told to sit and that they will call me. After 20 minute i was the first to be called by the lady at boot 3.
And the interview went like
CO- raise up ur hand and swear.bla blabla
Me – i swear
CO-are you married?
Me- No
CO- do you have any children?
Me- i answered
CO- when did you complete shs?
Me-i answered
CO- what did u do after shs?
Me- i continued to the polytechnic
All this while she was busy typing and checking something on her computer which i suspected that she was verifying my result from waec..after some time she finally said.
CO- congratulations am aproving you. Go for your visa in 2 to 3 weeks time and am giving you this paper blablabla ….i wasnt listening again… I was soo happy inside but didnt show it on my face. I got out of the embassy walking and praising God in my head. Please comrades… God is not the solution…preparation is and always be consistent in all your documents. And dont forget to pray because God is your last document at the interview. He gives favor but God doesnt change wrong document for people. Pray all you want but if your documents cant qualify you. Then forget.
A big thank you to his excellency britsimon for his immense help. What could i have done if it wasnt for brit,s page. I knew nothing about dvlottery but right now i think am an expect all because of brit. A big thank you too goes to suzzyqqq and s1smom for thier support ….they helped and explained everything to me beautifully. Frank boakye…thank you very much …u helped me a lot too bro …am grateful. Hello sid… Do we have to notary all the marksheet (SLC to Bachelor)? As my citizenship is in nepali, Do i have to notary my citizenship as well?
April 12, 2019 at 11:52
Hi srishty,
You don’t need your bachelors certificate however you can take it and yes all the documents that are in Nepali needs to be translated and notarized.
And for citizenship, you don’t need your citizenship
May 16, 2019 at 08:54
i was looking for at least one nepali interview and here you are. Thank you for all this info. This will really help us.
BTW i would like to ask one question, do you have any idea that HA(health assistant ) course considered as plus 2 equivalent or not?
May 16, 2019 at 11:01
Rajesh………Yes it is considered as plus 2 equivalent
May 16, 2019 at 16:37
Careful with this. Common sense might say it is the same, but the rules are very clear about vocational education not being acceptable.
May 16, 2019 at 16:31
Vocational training does not count toward educational requirement.
April 7, 2019 at 05:38
i would like to ask youcertain things for thus process clarification. can you write on XXXXXXXX
April 7, 2019 at 15:40
Asking questions by email helps only one person. Don’t be selfish – ask the questions in public so that others can benefit.
April 8, 2019 at 05:48

Interview Experience
We are a family of 3. I am the PA, have a husband and a 6 months old daughter.
Case number 2019AF00013***
eDV submitted on Oct. 19, 2017.
1nl on May 15, 2018.
Submitted DS260 on October 25th, 2018 .
Submitted supporting documents in January 2018.
2NL in February 2019.
Interview scheduled for April 1st.
Location: Seoul, South Korea.
Our experience started with a worrying scenario as I earlier explained above. we arrived at the embassy on the 1st but were told we couldn’t get into the embassy because our names were not on the list of expected applicants for that day.
1st we called the customer service section and after investigation, they told us they were unable to track our case number in the system. We called Kentucky and they told us they had forwarded our case to the embassy here in Korea in February and that it is not in their policy to call an embassy to follow up cases.
The only choice we had was to put so much pressure on the embassy here. We replied to their mail with scanned copies of both 1NL and 2NL. Finally we received an apologetic email rescheduling us for interview on Monday 8th April at 9am.
We got to the embassy at 8:15, met a queue of applicants outside but security officer called us up from behind since we had a 6 months old baby. Surprisingly, our names were still not on the list. luckily we had printed out the email they sent and so the officer made an internal call and he was asked to let us in.
At the first check in, they asked for pictures and home address registration receipt. We were then asked to climb up to the 3rd floor where immigrant visa interviews are conducted.
At 9:05am our names were called and went to a first counter where we were asked to submit documents.
Documents submitted
1. 1NL, 2NL
2. DS 260 Confirmation pages for all 3
3. Birth certs, English translations and a copy each
4. Passports
5. Marriage certificate, English translation and a copy
6. Educational certificates of PA ( Current enrollment for master prog + scholarship letter + transcript, Bachelor degree cert + transcript, Advance Level certificate )
7. Police certs (Korea) and letter of non conviction + English translation (Cameroon).
* Cameroon is a bilingual country, using both English and French on official documents, as precaution, we took all mentioned documents above to a Linguistic center for translation to English alone.
* We also had a good I-134 with all supporting documents but kept it aside since it wasn’t included on the checklist provided on the embassy website. ( fortunately they didn’t ask)
After about 30 minutes were sent to pay the interview fee.
not too long again, we were called up for fingerprints and asked to wait.
Finally, at 10:30am we were called to a counter for oath taking and interview
Officer: Good Morning, What are your names?
Me: XXX, my husband: YYY
Officer: So you both attend the same university here in Korea?
Me: My husband graduated about a year ago and I am a current student.
Officer: So you both study here on scholarship?
Me: Yes.
Officer:Who provided the scholarship?
Me: XXXXX provides 100% scholarship extremely excellent students, so we used the opportunity to study very hard.
Officer: Wow!!! you must be both very brilliant. So your husband has master and Bsc and you have a BSc and will soon complete your masters?
Me: Yes.
Officer: when did you graduate from your masters program (to my hubby)
My husband: XXX
Officer: When are you completing?
Me: July 17th will be my graduation day.
Officer: Where did you obtain your BSc.?, spell it
Me: XXX
Officer: How many times have you played the lottery and where?
Me: 3 times, 2 times in Cameroon and the 3rd time was here in Korea in 2017
Officer: ‘While smiling’, you must be very excited to have won?
Me: yes, replied with smiles from me and my hubby
Officer: So what are your plans when you get to the U.S
Me: XXX
Officer: Congratulations, I’m approving all of your visas. Your passports and traveling documents will be mailed to your addressed within 5 working days. Do enjoy your stay in the United States.
Us: Thank you.
The interview was very fast and didn’t last upto 3 minutes.
Same day CEAC turned to Administrative processing
Next day, it changed to issued
Today, 10th April our our packages were delivered.
We wish to say a very big thanks to Brit Simon for the wonderful preparations we obtained from this blog. We answering all our questions and clearing all doubts repeatedly, we say we are grateful. As you invest your time showing love to people via this block, so shall God never forget you.
To all those who are still waiting, we say patients is the key.
* If you are to take interview in a country where the citizens are not eligible for the DV program, please you need to call the concerned embassy for comfirmation once your 2NL is sent.
My advice to everyone is to make sure all your documents are intact and do not lie. Do not only pray to God for His Divine favor but also do your part to put all requirements in place before your interview.
God bless us all

April 17, 2019 at 02:01
Take everything you have to the interview.
April 17, 2019 at 02:20
don’t be afraid, Just take what you have at hand, 11-12 and the university degree and that would be more than enough to fulfil the minimum requirment.
Good Luck

US Embassy Cameroon.
Case No 17xxx
Interview Date :16/4/19
Time of interview 8:30am
By exactly 8:00am, we were at the embassy. After the 1st security checks outside, we were ushered in for a 2nd security check .There after, we were led into the hall where we were given a number and sent to a window to hand over our documents and pay the interview fee of 330 dollars, the equivalence of 195000 per person . Our passports and documents (originals and photocopies) separately collected.
We were then asked to go and sit and wait. About 3 hrs later, we were called up at another window where we did the finger prints and were again asked to go and sit.
At long last, the “bomb shell” fell after about 30 mins of another wait when de C.O called up our number and requested we come for the interview. We were a family of 4 .Myself the principal applicant, my husband, 1st son aged 5 and the 2nd aged 2. By the time we were called up ,my 2nd son had been dozing off for more than an hour.
INTERVIEW PROPER.
C.O : Hello xxx how are you ?
Me : xxx
Co : Who is that by you ?
Me : My husband .At this juncture, my husband took the 2nd child who was dozing off my arms to help me feel relaxed, while de 2nd was standing.
C.O : Did u play the DV as a family?
Me : Yes Sir
C.O : So who played? You ? Or u both played as principal and family .
Me : We both played as principal and family but i am the one that won.
C.O : Okay, that’s good. For how long have you been playing ?
Me: More than 5 years now.
C.O : For how long have you been married?
Me : xxx years today.
C.O : That’s good. How many children?
Me: 2
C.O : Where is the 1st?
Me : I raised him up
C.O : Hello Boy, how are you and how old are you ?
Boy : Am fine and 5 years old.
C.O : I can see de other guy sleeping.Okay, no problem.
C.O : Now turns to my husband. Hi, how many phases of marriage did you have? And were the parents of ur wife present?
Husband : xxxx
C.O : At what time of the day were ur 2 children born ?
Husband : xxx
C.O. where will you stay in the US?
Me: xxx
C.O : Who is he to you ?
Me : xxx
C.O : What field of study would you like to do in the US ?
Me xxx
C.O : Congratulations and welcome to America.
Me: Thank you very much Sir
Just a tip Brits, especially to my fellow Cameroonians who win as couples or a family : Birth certificates of children and /or marriage certificate for couples may not be enough as proof of relationship.
If possible, hold additional supporting documents like pictures, bank receipt transactions etc etc.
Thanks so much Brits. Ur bloc was indispensable to our success .We were keen followers and made sure to read and apply all the comments(questions) and ur reactions . May God continue to replenish the self sacrificing spirit u implore to push DV winners and prospective players to success.
April 21, 2019 at 00:50
Good tip about documents. Although that is very good advice for Cameroon, it may also be relevant for other countries where record keeping is not 100% trusted. Best of luck in the USA.
April 28, 2019 at 16:23
Thanks for sharing your experience! Did they ask you the I-134 form? Did you register your appointment online before the interview?
April 24, 2019 at 21:49
Brit I thank you for everything. My interview
was Today and the CO approved my visa he says that I can get my visa in a week. The interview was very very easy, but can I share my interview experience after I receive my visa please? Because still I feel very nervous. Or can I be sure about my visa?
April 24, 2019 at 22:51
Great, yes share once you have your visa
April 28, 2019 at 15:11
Dear Brit,
Once again, thanks all the positive work you have been doing all this years
Quick Question:
Do you have any link/page created for those cases going into Administrative Processing (221g slip)?
As per DOS page, Administrative Processing will normally complete in a 60days timeframe
However, I am after typical/statistically resolution timeframe for those DV cases going into AP
Are you aware on any limitation on travelling to US with a valid tourist Visa (Or ESTA) while DV case in under Administrative Processing?
April 28, 2019 at 15:24
There is no “typical” time.
Taking your passport to travel anywhere will delay AP. I don’t know whether you could enter the USA.
April 28, 2019 at 15:43
Thanks for the prompt response..
Cheers
May 2, 2019 at 07:30
Hello brit
My interview was today at 8:00 in the morning in US embassy Addis Ababa
They asked me for every document and i provided all the information they requested and finally the CO Told me that they need more time to issue a visa and took all of my educational and civili documents original and copy he only returned me Mine,my wife’s and my son’s passport and told me to wait until they contact me , can you help me how it might go . i am 100% sure that all my documents are geniune and verified my the Gov’t .
thank you
May 2, 2019 at 13:06
AP can last a few days to several months. Since there is nothing “wrong” with your case (meaning it is general background checking) that can take a long time – expect several weeks of delay.
May 2, 2019 at 13:20
Thanx brit, but all of my original and copy of documents and work experiences are with the CO. he only gave me passport. i mean is it usual for them to keep original documents?
thanx
May 2, 2019 at 13:31
Yes, that is why you are supposed to take copies to the interview, so that you retain your originals.
May 2, 2019 at 14:13
hello brit
The originals are not with me they keep it with the copies in the embassy , i only have our passport.
May 2, 2019 at 15:51
OK – well you should have asked them to keep the copies and return the originals.
June 5, 2019 at 15:22
hello biniam, i am facing the same problem here. i was a dv winner and attended the interview in ethiopia with my wife and the CO gave us a white paper and required me for additional education document then i submitted the document 2 months ago but we never heard anything from them.
May 2, 2019 at 09:43
2nl: March 28th
Interview date: Today 😀 May 2, ’19
Consulate: Johannesburg, South Africa
Case #: 2019AF00019xxx
Interviewee: Just Me
Medical was done 3 days before interview.
Report sent by doctor directly to embassy.
Had to register my appointment online and was sent an email to remind me to do so. Registered my appointment around April 1st.
Entered the Consulate at 8am for an 8:30am interview.
After about 15 mins being seated, called to a window by a South African woman.
Handed her my original documents with certified copies. She took my original police clearance. I was nervous cause it expires on June 8th this year but she had no complaints about it. I got the form on December 8th of 2018. Police clearances in SA expire after 6 months but it was no problem that mine had a month to go. If she had asked I would have told her that I’d
applied for a new one but luckily she didn’t! Make sure to have your own certified copy of the police clearance to keep for your records.
She didn’t ask for sponsor forms. She asked for bank statements and I gave her those and car quotes.
Also changed my USA address with her.
Submitted all education docs including high school certificate and undergrad docs.
She then told me to pay $330 at the cashiers then I sat back down. I paid with my bank card.
At about 9:25 I was called to a window by an American lady.
First question: why do u want to go to America?
Second: what do you do?
She queried about me having schooled in the US, a US visa that I tried to get (with an attorney) but was denied 2 years ago, my education, my profession and EXTENSIVELY on finances. She wasn’t too convinced I had enough (just under $9500) and the exchange rate doesn’t make things look great for us South Africans. I’m young, no kids, no spouse or significant other. So I had to convince her that with my 2 years of work experience, certificate and degree I wouldn’t fall into poverty. It was tough. We went back and forth about whether or not my parents would help if need be, if I had their financial documents with me (I didn’t).
She even referred to a board that shows info on how much one should have so as not to not become a public charge. After a while and a lot of talking on my part, she started becoming positive and spoke as though she would approve me. She gave me advice on how to attain citizenship , how not to lose the Greencard by not being in the country enough (no problem 4 me coz I WANT TO STAY consistently).
Then finally(!!!) she said the words: I’m going to approve you, your visa will be ready within 10 days. I thanked her and left.
I left feeling like I’d been on a wild ride. She definitely put me through my paces but it was worth it.
Simon, thanks so much for this blog. I feel like my prep came largely from your advice. You’re the best!!
To the rest of you: submit your documents to KCC ASAP. There were only 2 of us DV people interviewing today. 🙁 Get going!
And good luck!!
May 2, 2019 at 13:16
I’m glad you got through, but you were unwise to show up with only that small amount of savings to show. If you had read my advice I would have said to get an I-134, as 9.5k is not much at all, and neither is a degree/2 years of work experience.
May 2, 2019 at 14:17
True!
I meant 2years experience as a teacher but more than 10 as an artist. She was concerned about my being an artist and how tough it is to work consistently in the field.
Nonetheless I realise I was very lucky!
Thanks!
May 2, 2019 at 15:53
Well as you know – artists are notoriously living on very little. So it is even more clear why they questioned your ability to support yourself.
May 3, 2019 at 12:18
No doubt!
Just found out the immigrant visa was issued.
That was super fast.
Thanks again for everything Simon!

Auckland, New Zealand
First, thanks heaps to Brit for this site – it made the whole process more transparent and easier to navigate. A huge asset.
Interview was incredibly straight forward – it seems that the new document submission procedure has done a lot to pre-screen any issues.
The NZ Consulate team were also really helpful and responsive with what was sometimes some quite conflicting information from KCC and themselves.
I got called up to the window, swore my answers and info was accurate, then was asked:
– Why I applied/want to move to the US
– What I planned to do for work when I get there
– Whether I wanted to keep working in a field I previously had that was particularly unique
– Questions about the dates of a previous J1 Student Visa I had
– When I planned to enter the US
– What I had studied at University (I hadn’t provided the original copy of degree in advance but I took it to the interview with a copy and he said he would take the copy just in case)
That was it. It took about 2 minutes and then was approved. They offered to turn around my passport overnight as I was on a tight deadline to get to the US for work commitments. I’m young, have no spouse or dependents, and no criminal record so there were no complicating factors to my case which probably helped it’s ease.
My biggest recommendation to people is to use common sense – re-read everything multiple times, follow the instructions, submit more than you think you need to submit as all they can do is say we don’t need that, and don’t be scared to ask your consulate or KCC any questions. I’m sure it’s not the case that every Consulate is as friendly, as NZ only deals with a small amount of cases, but there’s no harm in asking questions.
I had real issues with the document submission procedure rejecting my documents for no clear reason, but KCC were also really helpful once I called them (email became pointless).
Brit, thanks again, and good luck to everyone else.
May 3, 2019 at 00:39
Thanks for that.
Could you explain more about the document rejection problems – what caused that and how did you resolve it?
May 3, 2019 at 01:34
Two things happened with the document rejection:
– NZ’s process for police vetting records is that you don’t get a copy of them provided to you, they’re provided directly to the US Consulate. Because I had nothing to submit with my documents, and no other instructions, I had nothing to submit (similar to how I had nothing to submit for military service, marriage, or offenses). It turned out (after asking the Consulate for clarity) I needed to submit my email request to the NZ Police, and also their email response confirming they’d provided the certificate to the Consulate. The broad stroke instructions provided by KCC didn’t apply to NZ and the NZ Consulate hadn’t provided tailored instructions – I think just the reality of it being a new procedure. I could have foreseen this I suppose, but a good lesson for others.
– Once I’d cleared the above up, I tried again, and got rejected again, then tried a third time with another rejection. I called KCC to ask why and all they could tell me was “passport required”, which I had already been providing. I simply rescanned it again (so identical to the last three attempts), and it got through. That one made no sense.
May 3, 2019 at 04:33
Humm ok, thanks. What you had to do for the police cert is the process I have been recommending for certain embassies.
May 3, 2019 at 04:44

Hi Brit,
Can it cause any problem on the interview (Europe) if my husband had a previous wife (legally divorced 10+ years ago, all papers will be with us confirming this) + he has a grown up child (not from his previous marriage) 25+ years old? Thank you.
May 14, 2019 at 13:55
No
May 14, 2019 at 18:19
I’d like to share my interview experience…..it wasn’t pleasant.
I’m based in Mexico and all the Mexican permanent residence visa interviews are performed in Ciudad Juarez which is a 2 1/2 hour flight from Mexico City and impossible to do in one day so it’s a costly process with flights and hotel.
2NL received Feb 26. Interview date: April 24.
About 3 weeks before our interview we were sent an email telling us to register for our interview and also book a time for bio metrics. This was not mentioned on the Juarez website but we registered and also had to nominate how to get our passport/visas back via Courier and to which branch. We did this and everything was confirmed.
We arrived at the Consulate at 8.15 for our 8.30 interview and there was nobody at all there only the security guards. We thought this was very unusual as the Juarez Consulate is the largest in the world and for nobody to be there was rather surprising. The security guard took our confirmation letter and went inside only for another guard to return to tell us that the Consul was closed today. Now what? we had no control over the date and time of our interview we just turn up and you expect everything to be organised. He said wait outside and we’ll see what happens. After 20mins a US employer comes out and says KCC have made a mistake and that they must have looked at the wrong diary and there is two 24ths and your 24th is really the 25th tomorrow. My wife and I looked at each other dumbfounded. What is this guy on? there is only one 24th and it’s today.
He explains that he will try and find someone to process if not you will have to come back. Come back? we had flights booked back to Mexico City that evening and how expensive it is to change plans for a mistake that has nothing to do with us. Wait here he says. After about another 15 mins a guard comes out and says they are going to see you. Phew… what a relief.
We enter through security and the consulate which is huge is like a ghost town. Waiting areas empty only guards. We enter the building and told to head to a particular window where after a few minutes a lady opens the blinds and starts processing us. We hand over our medicals and all relevant certificates etc. Then we were again told to wait and a Case officer will be with us soon. That was correct after another 15 mins a Case Officer called us to her window. We pledge the oath to answer all true questions after some basic questions similar to all asked to others on this post and shes says I’m going to approve your visas. We were ecstatic and she gives us a green slip that says how to follow the return of our visas by courier. I ask why is there nobody here? The CO says it’s an ADMIN day we have them occasionally unfortunately there has been a mistake with your date etc. ok thank you for seeing us.
Excellent!
back to our hotel and eventually our flight back to Mexico City. The next day I check the CEAC website and its updated to “Issued”. Terrific.
Friday 2 days after our interview I receive a phone call from the Consulate asking if we were still in Juarez. No we are back at home in Mexico City. She responds and says this type of visa cannot be couriered back. Leave it with me and I’ll see what our options are. I say Ok. The weekend passes and Monday I receive another call from them and at this stage the CEAC site has changed to Administrative processing…. this isn’t good. The caller says we need you to come back and bring your Marriage certificate, Birth certificates and old passports for a “follow up interview”. I explain you have already seen them all. Which they had. He said no the Case officer wants to see them again. Can I come by myself? No the CO wants to see all of you my child too. I explain to the caller saying it’s expensive for all of us to come back to Juarez again and we have jobs that we will need to take time off again. My complaints fall on deaf ears. I then ask him for a letter to explain to the guards when we arrive as you need an appointment to be able to enter the consulate. He emails me a letter and we again make arrangements to travel back (Flights and Hotel). He says that if approved the visas will be available straight away you won’t have to wait.
2 weeks later we arrive at the Consul 7.15 for 7.30 opening of the Consul. This time the crowds were massive, people everywhere waiting to get in to the Consul. We head to the information booth for a day pass and hand over the letter we were given and they let us in and directed old to go to a specific window and hand over our day pass and case number. After 2 hours we were finally called to see a CO. He asked the exact same questions as the previous CO. He approves our visa AGAIN and says your visa will be ready in 2 days I believe you had been given some wrong information previously as this visa cannot be couriered. I mention to him that we were told it would be ready immediately. He said it’s out of my control it’s up to the printing team as too how fast it will be done. Leave your phones on. So I start to plan for changing flights and more hotel fees. At 1pm we receive the call our passports/visas are ready come immediately and collect them. Once again i go to the consul and this time there is no line as all interviews are carried out in the mornings. I head inside and they give the visas/passports and packets to me.
Phew finally……
After all this I firmly believe that the information we were told about the courier was incorrect from the start and this was the only way to get us back there to collect our visas to make up a story about a “follow Up” interview. The whole process was very costly for us we had to spend about $1500 on top of the visas fees etc traveling twice to Juarez for interviews. None of this was our fault but there’s absolutely nothing you can do about it.
We now have our visas and will be entering the US soon.
Thanks Brit for the page/forum there is so much more info on this page than you can find anywhere else including the official pages.
Thank you.

Craziness. Mind you, it’s the perfect storm of Americans organizing something in Mexico. Neither country is famous for efficiency….

shukriya javeria, yea we are four cases selected this year from Pakistan, three r interviewed and one is to go.hopefully u will be out soon of AP.dont stress
May 18, 2019 at 02:15
Hey Brit
Thank you very much for a incredible site and you are a true blessings for dv lottery winners. Now the experience:
Every person is different so is the case. I was the winner of 2015 but ended up with lost of hope for that year in sep 30. But with American dream still intact I was selected in 2019 with case AS4*** and had interview on May 16 in kathmandu embassy, Nepal. Now little background of mine coz I think personal background do impact may be little but it does. Have MBA degree with 5 years of experience in a bank. Now the big day experience:
Documents: police cert, birth cert, slc marksheet, plus two cert. interestingly I had only welcome letter, relationships proof and driving license of my sponsor. I had balance certificate of my account with enough money. But they did took only welcome letter. I was not asked for any other documents not even relationship proof. My sponsor is my maternal uncle. But there were people who got pending even after having all the sponsors documents. I was approved with only welcome letter.
Went and did the basics as everyone does and are aware.
There were two VOs: one who took mine and other one was her supervisor probably as she was continuously talking to him during interviewing me. I am listing only questions she asked.
– what’s your name
– how old r u?? She asked me in the beginning and again in the middle of interview.
-are you married? Do you have children?? Are you divorcee??were you married before??
-what r u doing??where did you worked??
– what will u do in USA??
-what’s the name of sponsor? What he do?? Where?? How many members?? His son name??
-where will u stay in USA??
No tricky questions asked. VO continuously checks your form and cross verifies the details u tell them.
Tips:
1. Be confident and have eye contact with smily face.
2. I recommend you to give interview in English coz it helped my case. If u r not confident then go with ur native language but I highly recommend English as it will add positivity perception of u on VO. They expect you to speak English.
I checked about my visa on May 16 showed AP.
Next day it showed issued. Now waiting for passport with visa on my palm. Hehe.
Thanks again to Brit. As u were my savior not once but twice. Have a great day and best wishes to others.

Both of us in total having salary for 2000$ per month. If Sponsor is mandatory or more safe, so i can prepare for the interview on 17/06/19..

“RECORDS INDICATE” EMAIL: 07TH FEBRUARY 2019
SECOND LETTER FOUND: 18TH MARCH 2019
MEDICALS CONDUCTED: 2ND APRIL 2019
INTERVIEW DATE: 21ST MAY 2019
INTERVIEW REPORT TIME: 8:30 AM
I was the principal and only applicant for my case so everything went as follows.
I arrived the embassy some 45 minutes before interview time, made the queue and went through security checks. Then I entered the interview hall at 8:45 at its clock. Immediately, you are placed on another queue, to pay USD 330 interview fees at the first window after you are given a token number. You are also asked to submit your documents once you pay your fees. I had updated my certificate of non conviction since I’m a follower of this blog and it really eased the flow of my case as others were asked to go and do so and placed on AP. After submitting documents, you are asked to go and sit, some two hours later I was called to window 2 and given back my bachelors degree as they took its copies. Then I was subject to a preliminary interview
CO : How old are you?
Me: XX
CO : Are you married or have ever been? Any kids?
Me : No,not yet.
CO: When did you graduate from secondary school?
Me: 2014
CO: Have you ever traveled out of the country?
Me: No
CO: Took my phone number and asked me to go and sit for another wait.
It lasted about 45 minutes and I was carefully watching how others could be unprepared to the point of being delayed because of simple negligence. Called back at window 5 for final interview which lasted less than 2 minutes.
CO: How old are you?
Me: XX
CO: Have you ever been married? Any kids?
Me: No
CO: When did you graduate from secondary school?
Me: 2014
CO: Ok, everything is fine, you should come back in 2 days and pick up your passport and sealed packet. Don’t forget to register for SELECTIVE MILITARY SERVICE upon arrival. Good luck!
Me: Thank you sir.
21st of May CEAC status updated to AP till the morning of 23rd of May, turned to issued in the afternoon and I came for pick up at 3pm prompt as scheduled by the CO.
Tips for Yaoundé, CMR. Try to update you certificate of non conviction to avoid unnecessary delays and/or administrative processing. Also, carry along your national ID card and photocopies as it is not on the list of documents required but is asked for, RANDOMLY during interview. Again, register you appointment and print it’s confirmation letter. Then, pray and be confident because it helps.
I have been reading this blog and very rarely commenting or asking questions (reading clears your doubts efficiently on this blog, trust me). This blog has been my GUIDE throughout the process. I couldn’t go without contributing with my self experience and acknowledging BritSimons for his generousity and lucidity. You are really someone out of this world. Thank you sir, I will donate for sure when time comes and I won’t stop reading your blog as I realize it is already like a hobby for me.

Congrats! Were you asked a bank statement and a welcome letter from the person who will receive you in the US?
May 24, 2019 at 11:21
Thanks. Yes, I had both an Affidavit of Support and a bank statement accompanied by a welcome letter. Better be over prepared. Good luck!

Hi Brit, am from Africa, and my case number is 2020Af6x. What do you think about this number?
May 24, 2019 at 19:50
A number between 60 and 70 – that is OBVIOUSLY a great number.

Thanks Britsimon. Please have much need for your opinion. I always had my interview for which I would write my experience. But during the interview I was confronted with a decision I did not know. So he said could not make a decision and gave me a letter where he had signed for AP and kept my passports. So I have some hope of issuing the visa when they verify. Why did the year when he told me that I was less than 18 years old and according to the law for INA emigration, this kind of punishment came to the exceptions but I emphasize I did not know that it exists because the evidence of my penalty has always shown unworthy. Please Britsimon do you think we will issue our visas? What suggests to do?
May 24, 2019 at 18:37
The testimony of the penalty has always shown to me Untested or otherwise Easter.
May 24, 2019 at 18:54
“there is no punishment”.sorry britsimon for my bad english.
May 24, 2019 at 19:38
I can’t figure out what you are asking. Can you ask a different way?
May 24, 2019 at 20:37
DEAR BritSimon, along with the interview, asked me if you had a punishment? And I did not know in my knowledge and I told him the truth. I SAID NO. He told me he could not make a decision and gave me a letter where he was made note on AP.And kept the passports.than I check the status of the administrative director process and 02.03.04. ready. is a rejection of the visa? Or say that being Ap will release the visas? Thank you for your time Britsimon.
May 24, 2019 at 20:52
I have no idea what punishment you are talking about.
It sounds like you are on AP. That is not a rejection, it means they need to check some things before they decide. You must be patient.
May 24, 2019 at 23:56
Could you tell us again what question or difficulty you face during the interview?
Thanks.

Hi Brit has the proposed changes that were made by the Department of state of the dvlottery being implemented after comments from the plubic concerning the issues of passport?
August 6, 2019 at 00:54
We will only know for sure when the DV-2021 instructions are posted. They may or may not have time to implement the new rule – we don’t know.

Thank you very much for the help given to Britsimon. I hope everything goes well and I will write my experience here very soon. Thank you very much for you.
