One of the blog members asked for a page solely for people to post their interview experiences. So this is it – with some rules!!!
First – NO questions on this page. Let’s keep it for interview experiences only – good and bad. I will probably delete questions to try and keep the page focused on interview experiences
Please at least mention your embassy (city and country, like Accra, Ghana) and brief details about what questions you were asked and any interesting points about documents you were asked for and any tips you can give others. This will be useful to others who have not yet had their interviews. People could use the search function to look for their embassy.

Date interview: 2nd week of May
Embassy: CRC, SJO, Central America
Time: 12:00 md
Winner: partner
Originally the appointment was settled for the 1rst week of May. But my husband had a call from the embassy for rescheduling. And immediately we received an email from them indicating all the documents that we had to bring (police records, birth & marriage certificate, High school & University diplomas and very important an instruction for the returning of your passports through the public post, plus others).
We arrived to embassy at 11:30 and we left at 15:30. We did a security checkpoint. And then, we had to take a number. Before entering to the building we had to wait to be called. We went to 3 different windows (we had to wait around 40min or more between them) The first one was for checking all the required docs. The second one to take the oath. And last one with CO.
The interview with the CO was really brief. The person was very nice all time and smiling. The question were:
How many times have you applied for the DV lottery?
Do you speak English?
Do you have criminal records?
When did you get married?
What are you going to do in USA? (At this time the CO informed us that we have visa approved).
Do you have relatives? We don’t. What are you going to do? Our sponsors.
Important: in case that any of the applicants have an international high school diploma, make sure that you have a support document validating it issued by the Ministry of Education of your country!
Thanks to others for sharing their experiences and Britsimon for opening this blog! ☺

Hi, Am a Syrian Citizen residing in Syria who has been selected.
As some of you know due to the horrible circumstances in Syria the U.S Embassy is closed long ago that left me(and each Syrian Applicant pretty much) having to travel to Jordan through Lebanon so I can have my interview
I arrived in Jordan 5 days prior to my interview (which was on the 23rd) and I had my medicals 4 days before and handed it to the Embassy 3 days prior.
the first visit I did I simply waited in a small line then got screened by security after that was given a number after a small line It was my turn and I handed my papers to a nice Jordanian employee then left and waited until the 23rd. The Documents I had:
#Passport + copy
#Two Identical Photographs 51*51 with a white background.
#DS-260 Form + DS-260 Confirmation Page + 2NL printouts
#Birth Record (En Translated & Certified) + copy
#Individual Civil Record (En Translated & Certified) + copy
#Certificate of non-conviction (En Translated & Certified) + copy
#Military Records – Postponed (En Translated & Certified) + copy
#Highschool Certificate (En Translated & Certified) + copy
#University Transcript (En Translated & Certified) + copy
#Bank Statement 10,000.00$
#Medicals
He took everything but the Military Records and all of the photocopies plus the D-260 print outs.
I really don’t know if I was over prepared (there’s no such thing :P)or anything but due to long research this is the needed documents.
Fast forward 3 days of pure stress
My interview was at 1pm but I arrived 12 sharp. I stayed outside of the embassy but within the siege or the wall.
after 30 mins or so we started entering the first check point where we got screened after that we were at another screening point 😀 where they took my Mobile phone, CD, Headset, Flash drive and left anything else with me (papers and stuff)
then we entered a large room with a lot of seats where they took my name and asked me to wait.
after 10 mins or so I was called to window numb 7 where a humble middle aged man asked me about my university transcript(making sure whether I was a graduate or not) then told me to go to window 8 and pay all dues. I went to window 8 and paid the 330$ the guy was chatty and very nice in fact every single employee was nice and polite to me some where more serious than others but all 100% were polite and lovely.
Then he asked me whether the Lebanese borders gave us any troubles while we were entering their land to catch my flight to Jordan, so indeed I told him about it then he asked me to sit and wait.
after that I was called at Window 6 where they took my finger prints each and every one of them the employee was very nice and all after that I was asked to get back to my seat and wait until am called once again.
A little while goes by then I hear a thick American Accent calling my name… to Window number 7
I was very unsure whether this is the interview or is it just another employee needing some info from me so I went there and I saw a great professional CO and I realized that this is the interview and that he was a CO after the second thing he told me 😀 and it went like this:
CO: Hello sir, how are you?
Me: Am doing great, what about you good sir?
CO: Fine, Thank you.
CO: Do you swear to tell the truth, all the truth, and nothing but the truth?
Me: Automatically raising my right hand saying I swear.
CO: So what do you do for a living?
Me: Am a Guitar and English teacher, am a private English teacher and I teach Guitar in a private institute to little kids.
CO: What did you study?
Me: Well am studying English Literature at Damascus University, am a third year student.
CO: Oh not a graduate?
Me: Nope and I have stated that in my form.
CO: Alright no problem.
CO: Do you intend to finish your studies in the U.S or In Syria?
Me: Well it depends, if I could I would continue my studies in the U.S if not I will only travel back to take the Finals.
CO: Where are you living in Syria?
ME: something something something.
CO: Is there anything going on there? (Referring to war and combats)
ME: its close we can hear it, but thanks god there is nothing it’s just quite close.
CO: Do you have any relatives in the U.S?
Me: No, but am staying with someone someone she’s my mom’s best friend, we are not blood related but she’s like a sister to her.
CO: Where will you be living in the U.S?
Me: California Florence Saint Cypress.
CO: Is that close to Los Angeles?
Me: Well it’s an hour drive.
CO: An hour drive alright.
CO: Are you married? hehehe (laughing politely) you’re too young :).
Me: Nope :D.
CO: Well everything is looking good, I have no problem issuing you a visa.
Me: Thanks so much (with a tear in my eye)
CO: Please have a seat until one of my colleagues call you to inform you when to pick up your passport.
So a few seconds they call me again:
CO: Did you pay any bills?
Me: yeah sir.
CO: Can I have the receipt please?
Me: Here you go.
CO: That’s all we need thank you and please wait until we call you again.
(As you can see from the 1 minute interview that as Simon said a ton, the CO isn’t trying to hunt you down infact he is giving you a helping hand
I swear when he saw my passport and only saw that I have only been to Lebanon for 24 hours and Jordan for 5 days.. he felt sorry for me
It is hard to sink in but trust me a Diversity Visa Interview is nothing but a friendly meet up where you will be asked about forms you have already field so simply do not lie misbehave or be dishonest and your visa is guaranteed )
after 1 minute they call me to a different window a Jordanian English speaking girl tells me that he has issued you a visa and please come back tomorrow between three and four o’clock to pick you your past port.
I thank her a lot and leave.
So I take a cab to my rented apartment celebrate with some pizza Scotch and Nutella but then I check the CEAC where it said my Visa is under Administrative Processing! I freak out a bit and then remember that Simon once stated that this is normal and it happens but still I ask him again and he assures me that it is normal so I spend the rest of the day with mixed feelings then I finally go to bed.
Next morning I wait until it’s 3 and finally head to the embassy I collect my passport with the visa on it and Finally get back the apartment feeling like a million bucks
this past year and a half has been extremely stressful to me… there isn’t a single day where I haven’t at the very least spent 2 hours reading in this blog… and in the very first week after my first notification letter I swear I couldn’t sleep at all..
There is a great man, a wonderful being.. that I owe big time.. his name is Simon
If it wasn’t for this amazing man I would have never ever get this far and finally have my visa in hands..
Dear Simon… What you do is amazing..
no words can describe my gratitude..
Thanks Simon.. Thanks… you are literally a god send.
Finally I would like to say that after all this time I can’t really leave this blog.. and no way in hell that I’m 😀 it’s a part of my daily routine right now so idk I better start becoming useful around here.
Last I would like to say a few words specifically to Syrian Applicants:
First of all for Christ’s sake SUIT UP! Your casual clothe isn’t good enough and awful… you really aren’t gonna wear casually for such interview!
Second and most importantly
Please I beg you stop listening to anyone and everyone that says this lottery isn’t for Syrian people and no Syrian ever has been given a visa!
well guess what.. am a living proof!
Just follow the rules and be confident that’s all there is to it
here is my whole story.. there was nothing special I did except for researching over and over and over.
and if you are worried about the borders well if you take the flight the Amman embassy asks you to and land in the airport(Royal Jordanian Airlines Flight RJ406 or RJ408 and you must land in Queen Alia Airport) they mentioned you will be good trust me
on the other hand the Lebanese borders are as always a giant mess just be patient and they will let you in.
If you have any questions about Supporting documents and where to get them feel free to ask me am here to help you mate specially when I was in your shoes… not a single Syrian shared his/her experience with me :@….
So here I’m offering my help guys.
Simon the great. You are awesome. And thanks for all you’ve done.

That’s a great account of your interview experience – I enjoyed reading it, and I am sure it will help others.
If you get up to the SF Bay area sometime you can come and show Sofia and I how to play the guitar. 🙂
Best of luck for the move.

Cairo, Egypt.
Hi Brit,
Thanks a lot for your efforts. My wife was selected in DV2017 (AF21xxx), we knew about it on the 11th of June’16, submitted DS260 on the 12th, reopened the following day for minor modifications and resubmitted on the 14th. We received the 2nl on the 28th of March’17 for an interview on 22/5/17 at 7.30.
We prepared, legalized and translated all documents required and supporting docs before April’17 and had our medical examination in April. We also asked a relative to provide us with affidavit of support; in addition we had some savings in the bank ($30K).
We arrived at 7.30 at the embassy, there were few people ahead of us. A lady was standing by the gates to check and confirm the aramex delivery paper and the pics of each one. Although I have read all instructions from the embassy and here on your website yet she asked to have the delivery barcode of aramex for each passport to be on a separate paper; since I have printed all docs on both sides of the paper as it’s the default setting of the printer and I thought it shouldn’t be an issue. Anyway, I looked for a photocopier around and solved the issue but it took me something like 20 mins to do so. We entered the gates and passed the security checks, everybody was friendly and it was going smooth, we got a number, 16 cases were ahead of us. When it was our turn we went to the window where a quite old lady was sitting, she wasn’t very friendly as the others and was quite annoyed. She checked our papers and gave back the affidavit of support, the bank statement, the copies of the birth, marriage, university certificates and took the originals, she also confirmed the mailing address in USA. Then she asked us to go and pay $330 for each at cashier (window 4). Then after about 1.5 hours they called our number to another window to meet the CO. He greeted us and asked my wife if she swears that all what in the documents is true, she did, then got her biometrics and mine – he got hers two more times for the kids. Then asked her about her university degree how long did she study and what was her degree and finally he asked her how she knew me (husband), he also asked her where are we going to stay in USA and who is living there. Then he said congratulations you got the visa and gave us an instructions paper to collect our passports within 2 weeks. The interview itself took less than 10 mins and the whole process took around 2 and half hours.…. But it also took the longest year in my life.
Good luck to everyone and thank you Brit your efforts, please keep it up.

Interview Experience US Embassy Nairobi. Kenya 18th May 2017: 6.45am
First, I would like to thank Brit for the advice and guidance, being swift to respond, invaluable support to selectees on this new journey. Thank you, God bless you abundantly.
I arrived at 5.45am, already found guys on the queue. Personal advice the earlier the better from my experience it saves you a lot of torture having to waiting for your turn.
There were two queues for men and women just outside the main gate entrance. There are security personnel (G4s guys) who call people one at time to do a general frisking after confirming the appointment letter and Passport details, from then a second security check where all metal items and electronic items are placed in a tray. The electronics are held and a collection card is given for collection after the interview. Then you move to the actual embassy office area, where a ticket number is given. Your appointment letter and passport are taken at this point, then you return to the waiting area.
From then your number is called to a counter where an African lady asks for 2 Passport pictures (Size 2”X2”), KCSE Certificate and a copy, Certificate of good conduct, Birth certificate and a copy, she then asks the basic questions, like in my case she randomly asked; have you ever been convicted of crime? are you married? do you have kids? do you abuse drugs? Then gives you an invoice to pay the interview fee at the cashers counter just next there and return both receipts to her. (Note the fee is $330 in KES it was 34,650, I noticed most people paying in the local currency anticipated it would be less so make sure you have enough money) From then you return to the tent (waiting area, it’s typically a brick oval sitting area with a tent canopy)
Shortly after you are called inside again to a different counter where fingers prints are taken. Then you return to the tent, and wait for your number to appear on the counter screen for the main interview.
My number appeared at the number screen. called to counter 6.
There I found a white American lady on the counter with a neutral facial expression.
Co: Are you [Name]?
Me: Yes, that is my name.
Co: Swear that all information you provided and what is to be said is are truthful?
Me. I swear.
Co: Have you ever been married?
Me: XXXX
Co: Do you have any kids?
Me: XXXX
Co: Who’s your host?
Me: XXXX
Co: How did they get to the US?
Me: XXXX
Co: What is your highest level of education?
Me: Bachelor’s degree
CO: What was your specific course of study in the university?
Me: XXXXX
Co: How much did you pay at the cashers?
Me: KES 34,650
Co: Did you receive back your balance of KES 350?
Me: Yes, she did?
(She then reaches out for the green paper, there should be a name to describe this feeling, it’s like you are just not sure she’s going to pick it until it is finally handed over to you below the window, Handed over with all your original birth certificate and KCSE Certificate)
CO: Congrats your Visa is approved, please follow the instructions in the sheet provided and register with DHL, your passport and visa would be ready for collection in 7 days. Congrats once again!
Me. Thank you so much.
(End of interview) 9:45am
Appendix:
The entire setting is like a banking hall with an outdoor waiting bay. Interviews done while standing on the counter. The Visa and Passport were ready for collection in 4 days.
Success to all yet to have their interviews. Just make sure you have your papers in order and it will be a swift process. Remember to pray and The good Lord will see you through.
To God be the Glory. Thank you, Holy Mother Mary. Amen

Embassy: London, UK
Country of birth: Germany
After more than 13 months of being selected, religiously reading the “Ask questions here” page and a good lesson on what it means to be patient I finally picked up my visa today.
First of all I would like thank Simon for all that he is doing for us as well as all the people who left their interview experience stories in this blog.
After receiving the 2NL I had to register for the courier service. Their website is not very reliable and I was not able to find my interview with my case number. I had to email them and ask them to upload my interview details. Having to email them seems to be somewhat like a standard procedure from what I have read in other immigration forums. Be patient and after a while you will be able to see your interview info. I did not have to choose some other date as others have written here.
MEDICAL:
I booked my medical for a date about a month before the interview which turned out to be the right thing.
After checking in at the practice and showing my passport, UK police certificate, photos and medical questionnaire I was first sent to the bathroom to provide a urine sample. Then in the waiting room I had to fill in and return a more detailed questionnaire where I had to list all surgeries and disclose some other medical information. Subsequently a nurse went over my vaccinations with me. I had brought my little yellow vaccination record which lists all vaccinations I received since I was an infant. Luckily all my vaccinations were up to date and I did not need any additional jabs.
Afterwards I was sent to the X-ray room where several chest X-rays were taken.
This was followed by the main consultation with the doctor – a very friendly, funny, older Asian gentleman – which included a discussion of my medical history, surgeries, mental health and drug use. This was followed by a physical check-up: ears, nose, mouth, heartbeat, breathing, knees, blood pressure, show hands and fingernails. I did not have to undress. He then took some blood and ordered my to read a few letters that were about 4 meters away. Since I wanted to be truthful at every step of the way I admitted to experimental marijuana use a couple of years ago. The doctor had a couple of follow up questions about that and ordered a toxicology test which meant going back to the waiting room, drinking as much water as I could and go for another urine sample with the doctor being present. Since I knew this would turn out negative I was very relaxed about it nevertheless I was annoyed that this cost me an additional £50. The doctor asked for a medical history report from my GP which I did not have since I had not been in the UK for too long. This was required however otherwise they would not be able to send my files to the embassy. I was given a sheet explaining what was needed and went to my GP with it. It took about 10 days until I had my (empty) report and emailed it to the practice. If I had scheduled my medical closer to the interview this would have postponed the issuance of my visa.
INTERVIEW:
When I arrived at the embassy there were two long lines in front of the building. One to sign in and one to wait for the security check. TIP: Tell the first embassy staff that you see that you are there for an Immigrant Visa interview. I was pulled out of the first line showed my passport, interview appointment notification and DS 260 confirmation and then sent to skip the second line and go straight for the airport style security. Right after the entrance there is a desk where I showed the same document and the courier confirmation page. I was given a number and told to take a seat and monitor the screens until my number would come up. The London embassy is busy. So busy that I didn’t even find a seat which was ok as my number came up right away. I had to go to a window in section for which there was a long line. TIP: Also here tell the embassy staff that are there for an Immigrant Visa and your number is up. I was told not to line up but go to the window right away. There one of the local embassy staff took my fingerprints and asked for documents: birth certificate, police certificates of all countries I had lived in, high school diploma, bachelor diploma, photos, DS 260 confirmation page and passport. Not much of a conversation. Then I was sent to the adjacent window to pay the visa fee. TIP: As the visa fee is paid in US dollars make sure your card works with foreign currency and fees are not too high. You will be handed a receipt and be sent to the main waiting room but as soon as I arrived there my number was up again and I went to another window for my interview with the consular officer.
Me: Wow, all this is going really fast here.
CO: (laughed), yes
Me: Good morning
CO: Good morning, please put your fingers on the finger print scanner, we only need to do this with one hand. – Thank you – now raise your right hand – Do you swear to tell the truth and … blabalablab?
Me: Yes, I do.
CO: Are you married?
Me: XX
CO: Do you have children?
Me: XX
CO: How many bachelor degrees do you have?
Me: One
CO: And that degree is in XXXX?
Me: Correct
CO: You also went to UCLA at some point?
Me: Yes, I went there for one term during the summer in 20XX.
CO: What do you want to do in the US? Walk me through your plan.
Me: First I am looking into getting an internal transfer with my current company
CO: Who do you work for?
Me: XXX
CO: Ah. And if that doesn’t work?
Me: There are plenty of opportunities in my field. Mostly in NYC but also in other financial centers.
CO: Ok, you sound confident enough that one of these will work. I will issue the visa now. You should be able to pick it up in 1 to 2 weeks.
Me: Thank you, Sir.
CO: You are welcome, thanks for coming.
Me: Have a nice day.
CO: You, too.
That was it. I was out of there after around 15 minutes. I was more than over-prepared. I had around 40 different documents with me and could have talked in detail about every part of the DS 260.
Anyway, I hope this will help someone who reads this as much as the other stories here helped me.

Hi Matt, thanks for your very detailed description. I’ll be going for an interview in London soon and this is really helpful.
Re the medical and embassy visits – how long did each entire visit take? I’ll be needing to run out from work for both appointments and I’m wondering how long to tell my employer I’ll be out for.
Also, you mentioned that the doctor asked you to supply a complete medical history from your local GP which took 10 days to produce. Was there any particular reason the doctor asked for this or did it just seem like their standard request? This is not mentioned on the checklist of things you’re supposed to take to your medical examination and I’m a bit concerned now as my medical will be next week, just one week before my interview. I wonder if I should go to my GP straightaway to get the ball rolling, just in case. What exactly should I ask them for?
Thanks again!
Jerry

The medical history is a relatively new change that ALL London cases need to present.

Dear Brit
We like to share our interview experience at the US Embassy Colombo Sri Lanka. My wife is the DV winner. Received 2NL 2 months ago.Interview date 25th May 2017 01 pm.. With our 2 year old son we arrived at the embassy one hour earlier. The security officer told us they will let us in exactly 1.00pm. So we spent some time in a nearby shopping mall and showed up 1.00 pm. When we got back there were about 08 people in the line. No personal bags are allowed to take inside or keep at the guard room .so dont take anything other than your documents. you can leave your mobile phones at the guard room.
After the security checks we were asked to go the main building. At the entrance to the building we were given a token number. stayed in the waiting area about 15 minutes. our token number and counter number appeared on the screen so we went to the counter. After greetings the officer( a Sri Lankan Lady) at the counter asked for my wife’s originals, translations and photo copies of Birth, educational. marriage certificates plus ,passport, medical report, police clearance and Affidavit of support. Then She asked me and our sons passports ,medicals and birth certificates plus my police clearance. took the finger prints. we were asked to wait until our number to be called.
After 20 minutes our number appeared on the screen and we went to cashier counter and paid our visa interview fees.
after about 30 minutes again our number appeared on the screen and we went to a counter where we met CO. Greetings exchanged. my wife’s English is not so good. The CO kindly gave her an interpreter. She was asked few questions about her education etc.Got our finger prints. Then said she will have to check the results sent by dept of examinations otherwise everything else is ok.(Here in Colombo we apply for our results from the Dept of examinations and they don’t hand over the results to us .Instead we are given a token, We have to give that token to the embassy. They will collect the results from the examination department.) She Gave us a yellow paper and said we will call you soon. We thank her and came out of the room. We left the embassy praying God to hear a good news.
Our online visa status stayed AP about 5 days including weekend. 0n the 3th we got a call from the embassy. A lady on the other end said all our visas are approved and we could collect our passports following day. We were so happy.
I think if you go to the interview with all necessary documents accurate and answer the questions honestly the interview is not that hard.
And We want to thank Mr.Brit for this great blog which helps thousands of DV winners. Your blog was a great help for us to submit our DS 260 forms without errors.plus to prepare for the interview. I was on your blog almost every day. This blog should keep going . We will make a donaton when we get to US in about 3 months. Thanks again
Good luck to everyone

ADDIS ABABA, ETHIOPIA
Case Number 2017AF29***
Ds-260 on May 12 2016 never unlocked, 2NL received on April 24 2017
Interview Date June 5 2017, Time 07:00am
I reached the embassy around 6:50; there was a long line of people across the embassy. At about 7:50 a lady from the embassy came and divided the queue into dv and others. There were about 40 dv applicants before me. Then the lady laid part of the queue to the front of the embassy where folders are placed for each person to put their documents. Each folder contains a paper on how to arrange the documents. The 10 requirements listed on the paper are
1 two 5*5cm photographs with full names written in the back (both in Amharic and English)
2 congratulation letter, 2NL, ds confirmation, appointment letter
3 passport and photocopy of the first two pages (biographic page and first page with the your passport no.)
4 birth certificate and copy
5 marriage certificate and copy
6 medical results
7 police record from Ethiopia
8 police record from country you had lived (if any)
9 education documents
10 work experience and copy
After arranging my file a lady came and stamped my 2NL and told me to fill the blanks. The stamp requires applicant’s phone number, emergence contact person’s name and contact person’s phone number. After that I lined up to give the folder to ladies who check each person’s folder. On my turn the lady checked and gave me a paper and green card with 12.30 intervew appointment time. She then told me to read the paper carefully and sign before paying. The letter basically states the dv eligibility requirements and that the payment is nonrefundable.
After signing I proceeded to the gates where they did a security check to let me through. I went inside and a guard directed me to the casher. The casher saw that I signed the paper and told me to pay 7760birr (330 USD). After paying It was about 9:30 Am by that time; it seemed pointless to wait to 12:30Pm for interview, so I went out and returned on the afternoon around 12:15pm.
After passing the same security checks, I went inside and everyone was waiting for the interview to start. At about 12:30pm they started calling names. After a long and nervous wait at about 2:15PM my name was called to window 3.
A nice lady greeted me and asked me to place first my left then my right hand on the fingerprint scanner; I did. Then she asked if I was ever out of the country, I said no. If I was ever married, I said no. then finally she asked me in what language I want to be interviewed. I said English. She said take a seat and wait for your name to be called. As soon as I took my seat my name was called to window 10 for the actual interview.
At the counter both the CO and translator were standing .without greeting, the CO asked me to place my left hand on the finger print scanner, I did.
CO: we will start by raising the right hand and swear all the information and documents u give
are true?
Me: I do
CO: what is your highest education level?
Me: I have BSc degree in civil engineering
CO 🙁 He looked through my document and saw my temporary degree and said fine)
What is your relation to your sponsor and which state does he live?
Me: he’s my cousin, he lives in Virginia
CO: (oh cousin good) Are u engaged or plan on getting married before you go?
Me: No
CO: Congratulation we have decided to grant you the visa.
He gave me a yellow paper and said read the instruction on how to pay USICS fee. He then gave me a white paper and said this is the instruction for your visa pickup.
Me: Thank you.
From what I saw if your documents met the requirement, the interview is just a formality. The CO didn’t even pay attention to me he was typing the whole time. In addition passing on a work experience is very difficult; the applicants were asked difficult questions and most of them got denied. So for those of you who are about to be interview, I know it may be nerve-racking but if you fulfill the requirements the interview Is the easy part.
And as for you Mr. Brit ,I wholeheartedly appreciate everything you’ve done with the site
Without it this process would have been unbearable. so thanks for all your help I hope you get everything you want in life.
GOOD LUCK TO ALL THE DV WINNERS.

Greetings!!!
my interview experience US embassy Addisababa Ethiopia
JUN 8 2017
Case number 2017AF00033***
Before any thing i would love to say thank you very much for your help and guidance like a father through out the year, you are simply amazing may GOD bless you and your beloved ones
you know me, am from Ethiopian forum 2017 and this is my first time posting on your web site though i was addicted to your site since the first day i discovered it and read every day and learn from other question and offcourse from your answer .and you have been with us and with so many other on different forum to make people life better, to make their American dreams came true! am speech less for your job am…… Thank you once again
Our interview experience might help some one some other time i hope.and we will donate when we have credit card in US and also we will tell some stories about our country Ethiopia for your little angel Sophia. until then please say HI
We have found out that we are selected for the further process on May 8 2016 and before that we have no clue about the process and we went to internet cafes around the embassy just to know what to do next but what we heard at that time where heart breaking the guy who called himself an agent said to us that you have a 50% chance if you have a child! To make it, since you don’t have the legalized marriage certificate despite we have the most common way of marriage in our country which is customary and its paper. Return home disappointed, we start looking and searching internet and found out that there are heaven sent peoples like Brit and DV forum, I fill so excited to herd from you that we have the a chance I have, found out that I can legalized my customary marriage from the municipality and have all the proof that can show our marriage where genuine. And I start asking so many silly question on our forum nagging you every day my apology for that, then I know I am on the Wright track though I can’t control my nerve, and can’t stop thinking about it for sec .and I have a very good comment from brit “step away from the key board and think about something else” and that phrase “we should wait and see” for questions of the VB of every month.
In the mean time we unlocked 3 times because as britsimon always says having accurate DS260 is very important, no matter what even if you think you might delay your interview because delay is better than deny.
Received our 2NL on APR 24 2017 for JUN 8interviw
After that document preparation follows including medical (IOM) police certificate, doc authentication for the principal applicant only except for birth and marriage certificate for the beneficiaries collect all possible profs that we have before the marriage after and present ones.
Finally the day has come after the long wait, almost 1 year so long!
Get up in the morning pray and leave as early as possible, when we reach, there are around 20-25 people ahead of us
After sometimes a lady came and divides the queue DV and others, at this time only 15 people ahead of us
We get closer to the get and they give as a folder to make all important docs in order, we provide everything they ask and the give us a paper that declares the fee is not refundable if we are denied with small paper on top of it that shows the returning time in the afternoon 6:00pm
We went to romina café and restaurant and have our breakfast and return 30 min earlier and we pass all the security procedures and inter the gate and have a seat in the waiting area, after around 30 min our name called to window 7 and one very smile Ethiopian gentile men greeted us and ask as three question have you ever been outside from your country for more than a year we said no and this is your first marriage we said yes do you need your interview to be in Amharic we said yes and we gave our finger print and he order us to pay for both of us and return with the recite and we seat and wait for the actual interview
Just after 5-10 min our name called to window 10
The co greeted us and says raise your hand and swears all you said is true and we did
CO-Where and when did you meat
We-*****
CO-how long have you been together?

Hi Britsimon, I can’t even begin to express my gratitudes for your guidance through this long journey. I had an interview today in Addis Ababa. The CO said “your are super qualified” and approved my visa. Mine was very simple and I have a feeling that the COs seem to know who is coming to the interview from the intensive background checks .
I am pretty sure to come back and share what I have observed.
Thanks again!

I just had my interview last week at the Caracas Embassy in Venezuela. The interview went well, but the process took kind of long (a total of 3hrs and 45mins).
Even though my appointment was at 9:30am, I showed up at 7am, and was allowed in. The embassy is very strict on what you can and cannot bring inside, so I’d suggest you leave your personal belongings, such as phone, at home/ hotel or with the person who is accompanying you (and can’t get in). Only the people on the case can get in. My aunt couldn’t come in with me, for example, because she was not on my case.
I had to go through security, then they lead me to the interview hall, where I had to notify them that I was an IV applicant, and I had to get a number. My interview process was separated in three parts: payment, documents, and interview.
1. Even though I got a number, I was called up to the window and was told to make my payment in the next room. The Caracas embassy only accepts payments in cash USD or US Credit Card containing USD.
2. Then I was told to go back to the interview hall and wait to be called. Once that happened, I was called to the same window again, where I started giving the employee my documents one by one. As she took my documents, she also asked questions about them. They also took my fingerprints here. Once done, she told me to take a seat and wait to be called for an interview.
3. When I was finally called up for my interview, the process went very quickly. I was asked to assure that all my information is correct by lifting up my right hand. I was asked a few questions: “which is your highest level of education, and where did you receive it”; “ever been married? have kids?”. Since I didn’t receive the results of my medical exam yet, I was told to sent the medical exam along with my passport to them once I received it and that was it.
I was approved.
Thank you all!

Case # AF39xxx
1st NL September 6, 2016 (2nd draw)
DS-260 first submitted was Sep 22, 2016
unlocked on Sep 28, 2016 and re-submitted Sep 29, 2016 (KCC unlocked the same day I requested)
unlocked again Oct 27, 2016 re-submitted Oct 27, 2016 (KCC unlocked the same day I requested)
2nd NL May 22, 2017 status changed from NVC to In Transit after few days changed to Ready
Interview appointment on Jul 3, 2017 07:00 AM at Addis Ababa US embassy
on July 3 morning it was raining all night; I headed to US Embassy and I arrived at 7:30 and
there was a long 3 queues around 100-150 People for DV and other cases. I security women was
checking that everyone is holding the dhl online appointment letter which I didn’t bring
and she told me to bring the letter.(what a…black Monday ). I went to 4 killo no internet
cafe or any internet service was opened since it was too early. I went to Piassa I got one
and come back at 9:30 AM. There were no queue I passed through security screening and there
were other 2 or 3 guys with me. A lady gave me a checklist with a folder to prepare the
necessary documents in order.
1. First NL, 2ND NL and Appointment letters
2. Birth Certificate(Original and copy)
3. Passport (original and copy) and two 5X5 sized photos
4. Police report (Original)
5. Transcript 9-12 and ESLCE Certificate, Diploma with transcripts(Original and Copy)
6. Sealed Medical report
Then she asked me whether I want to pay the 330 USD now or not. I said I’ll pay later
she gave me a paper explaining what is next and to sign that if visa is not issued
the 330 USD will not be returned and told me to come back at 12:00 PM
I came back at 1:30 PM I was late but since I saw her writing I was 48th position I
was ok. Three is big hall with many sits and almost all was occupied; I found one and
get sited. After a long waiting they start calling names who have some problems or
incomplete documentation. I was called and the person called me returned my Diploma
and transcripts since it is not necessary and told me the ESLCE (Grade 12 leaving
certificate was enough) then I gave finger print. He told me to sit and wait.
I have seen a male and female (I think husband and wife) and he was arguing with
the CO and I think the CO was very much upset and gave the passport back for both of them and they
leave the building.
I can’t tell how I was scared. My face was burning. Around 3:45 PM I was called
in window 11 where I really wanted to be interviewed since I thought he was the nicest
guy form the others (male and female COs’) as I observed I didn’t mean they are cruel but it guessed they are not friendly (it was my thought even though).
CO(Amharic): rais your hand “Will you understand and sware what you heard”.( he speak Amharic pritty good)
me(Amharic): I do.
CO(Amharic): How are you?
ME: I’m fine (Amharic)
CO (Amharic): What is your highest Level of education
Me: Diploma
Co: Looking for the document and said “it is not here”
And when I was trying to explain…
CO (English): it’s ok ESLCE is fine (Grade 12 leaving certificate)
CO(Amharic): Where does your sponsor live
Me : I Answered
CO(English): Do you have a girl friend or fiancé or any r/ship?
ME: yes
CO: How did you find each other?
ME: Answered
CO: he seems impressed and was smiling (BIG) he said ” you are brave” smiling
CO: how long have you been?
ME: answered
He was writing something on the PC in front of him
CO: What is her name?
ME: told him full name
CO: Do you intend to marry before entering US?
ME: Answered
CO: I have approved you VISA. Congratulations!
CO: Do not forget what you have said in the future.
I didn’t understand why he said that I think it was about the question I answered
when he asked me I will or will not marry before I enter USA.
then the CO told me I should pay 220 USD before I went to USA and told me my sponsor
can pay for me with credit card since it is paid via online payment method.
He gave me a yellow and white paper and told me to collect my passport a week later.
The I thanked him and wished he has a good day.
Then I checked the status it says “ready”
Last Updated July 4-6 Changed to “Administrative processing”
Last Updated Jul 7 Changed to “Issued”
Last Updated Jul 11 Updated to “Issued”(I didn’t know why at the moment)
Last Updated Jul 14 Updated to “Ready” (I didn’t know why and so scared!)
Last Updated Jul 18 Updated to “Administrative processing”
Last Updated Jul 19 Updated to “Issued ” Oh…..My…..God!
Jul 20 received email notification to collect my passport.
Jul 21 received.
The past two weeks were so frustrating. Finally, with the help of almighty GOD got some relief.
Brit,
About the AoS I was holding the document but it is not required.
In my first DV lottery application there was an error in the date and the year.
the CO didn’t asked me about it. but as I described and as I understand the reason
the visa was printed on Jul 7 but it was printed with wrong DOB which I entered in first
entry of the DV lottery then there reason why my status was changed because of the
visa should be reprinted with the correct DOB which printed on Jul 19, 2017.
Finally, I again would like to say thank you and GOD bless you. I’ll be in touch.

I had my interview in 1st week of Aug and it went pretty smooth. Here’s how it went.
I greeted my CO in my native language and she greeted my back and we conversed in my native language.
CO: Are the documents you have submitted are true?
ME: Yes, they are.
CO: IF they are, then you could not get US visa for a lifetime, do you understand that?
ME: Yes, I do.
CO: How many children have you got? (I am unmarried, so i thought this could be a trick question or she was just joking. My instinct was she was joking)
ME: I haven;t married yet, so I don’t have any.
CO: (smiled at me, checked her computer screen) So you are going to (state name)?
ME: Yes
CO: Is it (city name)?
Me: Yes
CO: (checked her screen again and after a moment) Congratulations, your visa is approved.
ME: Thank you very much.
CO: (gave me a card saying my visa is approved and some instructions to create visa profile and picking up passport) You have to make a visa profile in a webpage, the staffs over to the counter will brief you about this. Congratulations again.
ME: Thank you ma’am.
This is pretty much.

HI BRIT,
Thank so much to God and to you for your help and blogs that guided me throughout my dv process. In order to encourage those that are yet to go for their interview I would love to share my experience.
I went for my interview on 29th Aug 2017 at the US Embassy in Ghana,
I go to the embassy at 8;00AM and was allowed in at 9:00AM because my time scheduled for the interview was 9:30AM.
We were called to Window 3 where a woman briefed us a bit about the process and we then went on to make $330.00 payment.
About an hour time I was called to window four where a woman took my finger prints and all required documents which include:
Passport
Birth Certificate
SHS Certificate and transcript
Police Clearance
Medical Report
Passport Pictures
1NL
2NL
and Confirmation Page of Ds260
I made Photocopies of all my documents.
In about two hours time I was called to window 10 where the main interview began.

M: No, I told him I completed the form and told him the date I submitted Ds-260
Co: Are you sure? He kept asking. Did anyone help you?
M: No, I filled it out personally.
The consular then stood up went to do something and came back
Co; You paid money to someone right?
M: I was confused and said I filled it myself I paid nothing to anyone.
Co: That is right.
M: I smiled.

M: I smiled and told him then we will be good friends..
Co: He smiled and said, your interview started rough but ended very good, congratulations.
M: Smiled and said thank you.
He gave me a blue sheet and today I checked my status and it shows ”ISSUED”
Glory be to God, thanks so much brit.
Good luck to those yet to be interviewed..
My advice to you all is that, be very honest, Pray to God about it, Read from Brit’s blog, and post questions to him he is very friendly and will be of great help and most importantly don’t ignore the instructions at dvselectee.state.gov. And couples should prepare documents very well, many couples were refused.
God bless. I left the embassy at 4PM.
Thanks again Brit.

Dear Brit, am really sorry I am latehere are the details
The interview was 2nd May 2017 at 7:30 am in Yaoundé embassy Cameroon. I was at the embassy 6am, where I meet a huge crowd, and this made me really panic. We were told by the guards to form two lines (immigrants and non immigrants). We stood there for almost 30minutes and I was as to go to a desk beside, where security checks were carried out.
After that I was ask to go into the embassy, the second security checks here kept my phone. After that I was ushered into a garden where another guards gave me a paper that shows how I had to organize my documents: that both original and photocopy. I quickly did that.
Few minute later I was usher into the interview hall, where I was directed to pay my interview fee. I sat for a while and later on I was call to give my documents, and they took my finger print.
I sat for a while waiting for my interview, This stage was very difficult as I could see how people panic in front of the consular and some were given pink papers while others green and very few yellow. Some few minute later I was called up.
Co: Hello, how are you?
Me: Am fine thank you, and you?
CO, am great.
Co: Raise your right hand up?
Me: (I raise my right hand up)
Co: Swear that all information’s you provide here will be the truth and nothing but the truth?
Me: I swear!
Co: ok, can you place your hand down please?
Co: how old are you?
Me: xx
Co: are you married?
Me: NO
Co: Do you have a child?
Me: No
Co: where do you intend to live in America?
Me: MD
Co: what do you intend to do in America?
Me: I intend to continue my studies into one of the most renounce university to grape good professional skills
Co: what field?
Me: Accounting.
Co: Ok Collette, so far all your documents are good just that I`m lacking your medicals? (Pulling out a pink form and writing down something.)
Me: My hands were shaking…..
Co: Go get that document I have tick and bring it to us for your results, you may mail looking at its directives.
Me: Ok thank you Sir.
Wow at this stage, I sat for a while to calm down myself. I knew I had medicals lacking since the doctor told me to do tuberculosis test. This is because the morning of my medicals, I had cold that lead to cough! So I had to wait for two good months after the interview before my results could come out.
After two months was due I went for it, I was told wait for a week more (they will called me), I was really impatient but had no choice, after a week and some days I received no call so I had to go to the clinic again, I was told the results were ready but needs to be mail to them (clinic), and they have been calling the laboratory but no response?
I was really frustrated here, I could see myself losing hope, but I kept praying. On the 27th of June I was called by the clinic to come pick my results; I got it but could not go submit because the pink paper had restriction that says “you could submit any Wednesday but not the last Wednesday of the month”. I had to wait again for a week.
On Wednesday 5th I was at the embassy. I was told to drop it in a mail box! As to me I thought the final results will be given instantly, so I drop in the mail box and insisted to go inside the hall (even thou I was told by the guards you cannot get any response today!), I was call by the consular to step forward.
CO: hello, how are you
Me: Am fine, thank you
CO: how can I help you?
Me: (pulling out the pink paper) I was told when I bring the medicals I will get the final results
CO: that’s right but you have to wait some few weeks more?
Me: (with a blurred face) that’s too long
CO: what’s your case number?
Me: xxxxxx
CO: (he checked it up) since may 2? Ok, will get back to you sooner.
Me: ok Sir I`m counting on you! Thank you
I left still with no results, I kept checking my status day in day out which remain on AP, until this bright Monday 10th its change to approve. OMG words can really not explain my reaction, but I was overwhelmed that I kept dancing in the office the whole day. On Tuesday morning I was called by the embassy that my visa was approved and I could come collect it on Thursday.
I learned something I had always lack, that’s patience. I cants count the numbers of times I keep disturbing Simon on my case. He kept telling me to be patient. Am so grateful I found his site, it’s very essential if you follow exactly what he tells you. I was on it every blessed day, sometimes I wonder if Sir Brit rest, he is always on time. Mr. Simon you are really good, will visit this for donation very soon.
For Cameroon applicants:
My advice is for applicants to always read information’s, I noticed we hardly read, and rather listen to what people say!
It’s advisable not to carry a bag along to the Yaoundé embassy with a lot of content in it, and envelope will do!
Always learn to ask when you doubt something.

Hi Simon
Here’s my experiences from my interview at the Sydney, Australia Consulate on October 10.
We arrived about half an hour early for our appointment and entered the security area on Level 10 of the MLC Centre. After confirming that we had all the required paperwork we were ushered through the security screening.
All mobile phones were turned off, shoes and belts taken off and everything apart from the paperwork and wallet taken off us for collection when we were finished.
A long delay while a mother tried to get through the security gates with her large pram resulted us entering the second waiting room about 25 mins after arriving.
A short wait and we were escorted up to the 59th floor to do the interview. Grabbed a ticket and was immediately called to a desk, where a polite gentleman confirmed we had all the paperwork, scanned our photos and took our fingerprints. He instructed us to pay at window 8 (the cashier), which we did – quick tip – they only accept a signed credit card, cash, cheque or money order (no PIN numbers allowed).
Returned to the window and the gentleman said “everything looks in order, I’ll let you know if I need anything else. Wait over there and someone will call you when they’re ready”.
Waiting in the main waiting room was an eye-opening experience. There’s no privacy, so you can hear all the conversations. In the time we were there we heard two refusals (for lack of education and a couple trying to claim Australian citizenship as country of chargeability despite being born in India and Canada) and two cases placed on AP (lack of education proof and no address in the US). There was also one young couple who were approved.
After about 20 mins we were called to the window and went through the standard procedures before we were questioned:
CO: You were married in Vanuatu?
Me: Yes
CO: Why?
Me: We wanted a small wedding.
CO: Did anyone attend?
Me: Just our parents.
CO: What do you do for a living?
Me: I work as an executive manager for the State Government.
CO: (To my wife): And you?
Wife: The same.
CO: (to me) Do you have job offers in the US?
Me: Not yet, but I have reached out to a number of recruiters.
CO: That’s good to know.
(A few seconds of typing).
CO: Well everything seems to be in order here, your visa has been approved and you’ll receive your passports in the post over the next week or two. Congratulations, make sure you have all your original documents and have a nice day.
That was it. All the months of stress for no more than 30 seconds of interview. Everyone says the interview is a massive anticlimax – and they weren’t kidding! We were out the door 70 mins after arriving 30 minutes early.
Before the interview I’d had serious concerns about the quality of photo I used in the lottery application but it wasn’t even raised (please, if you are applying this year, get a professional photo taken – it’ll save you countless sleepless nights).
Thanks again for all your assistance Simon and the one recommendation I can offer is to be prepared. Having everything in order (as requested by the consulate) and using the resources here, the day went smoothly.
December 19, 2017 at 12:14
Hey mate. I’ve got my interview in Jan and am qualifying via work experience rather than education, so your anecdote about the denials due to lack of education has me nervous! I’ve got written letters from my jobs detailing my role, and it meets the ONETONLINE criteria, do you think this will be fine? Did those other denials not have either, do you know? Thank you.
January 5, 2018 at 01:16
Hi, Sorry for the delay in replying… Just saw your post. They were refused as they had no year 12 and their jobs didn’t meet the minimum O-Net score.
If you can show you meet the score and can prove two years experience you should be okay. I’d also bring a copy of the O-Net page detailing the required experience (better to be overprepared).
And seriously don’t panic. It’s a total anti-climax. If you follow the instructions (and can produce proof when you need it) you’ll be fine.
The CO isn’t there to trip you up… Just to check that your application is correct. Be truthful, don’t offer details unless asked and be friendly, and you’ll be off to the US in no time.
Good luck.

This blog has helped me a lot so I would like to thank you again Simon.
I am now sharing my interview that happened on october 2nd 2017 as a DV2018 winner.
the embassy in Bridgetown in Barbados.
We had our appointment In Bridgetown Barbados
since I received the 2nl in August 2017 we booked our flight tickets with my newly married wife (got married in july) we ve been dating since 3 years and took the opportunity to try to go together.
but things didn’t go as planned due to the major hurricane hitting the caribbean and the airports as well, We had to change our flight tickets in the last moment to get to Barbados earlier.
Once we got there we did the medical checks on the 28th of september 2017 and we were supposed to get them on friday 29th september 2017, but again it didn’t go as planned, we were informed that they had a delay and we had to collect them on monday (2nd of october at 8am) (knowing that our appointment was due at 7:30am)
We arrived at the clinic at 7 am and collected the medicals, we then rushed to the embassy.
Also note that 6 photographs (5x5cm) were needed for each applicant (4 for the physian and 2 for the US embassy)
When we got to the US embassy we just followed the different steps, we where told to turn off our phones and go inside the embassy building.
We were called to a window and they collected the different documents ( police records, brith certificate, education certificates and marriage certificate) all the documents were provided with certified translation.
We were directed to another window to pay the $330 fee for each person and then told to wait until the CO calls us.
Were were called to window 1 with a male CO that seems very nice.
CO: Hello how are you
ME :…….
CO : Both of you raise your hand and swear that all the information you provided is true.
ME :……..
MY WIFE : I swear.
CO : So how did you meet ?
ME :………
CO :You guys speak english to each other (My wife native’s language is spanish and mine french)
ME :…..
CO : Who attended your marriage ?
ME :…….
CO : What are your Education certificates about?
ME :……..
CO :Have you ever been to the US more than six more ?
ME :……..
MY WIFE :……….
CO :Do you have any kids ?
ME :…….
CO :For me everything is fine you have my approval.
ME : Thank you sir
We where then given a green paper and told by the CO to send our passport from the place we live.
It took 7 business days to get the passports back with the visas and the yellow envelopes.
The interview lasted about 10 min but we were well prepared not to say over prepared (we had 5 files with screenshots, marriage pictures, travels, flights tickets, bank statements) in case we were asked about those,
of course we showed the pictures of the travels to the CO to show the genuinity of our marriage. Overall we had a good impression about the embasssy.

25 May 2017: Submitted my DS-260
15 Aug 2017: Received 2NL
19 Oct 2017: Attended interview in US Embassy at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Case Number: 2018AS5xx
Was scheduled for an interview at 1pm.
Went there around 12pm.
However I wasn’t allowed to register as visitor until 12.45pm.
12.45pm: Registered as visitor by showing my appointment letter to them. In additional to that, provided them my driving license to get a visitor tag. (For Malaysian, can choose to provide either identical card or driving license. For foreigners, to provide a copy of passport)
They scanned my bag and I was asked to surrender my phone, powerbank, cable and fitness band. I was then provided with a locker tag.
Stepped into US embassy compound then walked into a building.
Went through another round of checking. The security personnel opened up my handbag and did around of checking. A lady first confirmed with me if I can understand English. I told her yes. Then she gave me a paper where it listed down the documents required and I was asked to take out all the documents according to the order.
Once it was done, I was given a queue number.
I was called to a counter. All the conversation was done via microphones.
Let’s call her Lady A. I saw her holding a paper file with my name on it.
She asked for all the relevant documents.
She checked with me if I am single.
After all the documents was sorted, she asked me to make payments at the payment counter.
I went to the payment counter and paid USD330 using credit card.
I went back to seat.
Then Lady A called me again. She asked me if I have name of the person who is staying at the US address that I provided in DS260.
I told her I do not have the full name of his as he is my bestie’s uncle and I re-confirmed with her that there was this option called “Name not specified” provided in DS260.
Then she said OK.
After that, I went back to my seat and waited for another 5 minutes.
I went to another counter to meet Lady B.
Put up my right hand and swear.
Took fingerprints scan.
She was busy typing as she asked me the questions below.
Like seriously, non-stop typing.
Lady B, “Are you still studying?”
Me, “No. I am working now?”
Lady B, “So you studied Microbiology?”
Me, “Yes, I did”
Lady B, “Where do you work now?”
Me, “In a bank as Business Analyst”
Lady B, “Oh why are you working in bank now?”
Me, “……….[explained on it]”
Lady B, “Are you aware that you need to stay in US?”
Me, “Yes, I do”
Lady B, “When do you plan to go to US?”
Me, “December”
Lady B,”Do you have family there?”
Me, “Nope. But I do have friends there.”
Lady B,”Okay, everything looks good. So here are all your original certificates. I will keep your passport and wil return it to you once we put on the visa to it”
That’s it.
I walked out of US embassy pretty much dumbfounded – unable to process the information.
But yes – I did return the visitor tag and locker tag to collect my personal belongings XD
I think I walked out from US Embassy before 1.30pm.
It was a pretty smooth process.
Thanks BritSimon for putting up this great site here to guide us through the process. Really appreciate that. Thanks for everyone for sharing their experience here.
Still a long way to go after this. To think, to plan, to arrange, to look for job and ………
But yes, I made it.
All the very best to everyone here!!!!
Nothing to worry on it as long as you are telling everything the truth, nothing but the truth.

Embassy : Colombo
Interview:17 Oct
Interview at 1PM and went in there by 12.45PM. Took us in with 2 rounds of security checks. Was issued a token after the 2nd round of security check.
Went in to 3 set of counters before interview. 1st to handover the passport and for identification, then gave a token for payment. Then in around 5 mins to the second counter for payment of 330USD for each person and then in around another 10 mins was called to hand over the other documents – Birth Certificates, Marriage Certificate, and trasnlations along with fingerpirnt scans. And asked us to sit and wait for CO.
Then in around another 10 mins called by CO for interview. Again took the fingerprints and the started with the questions. A very nice polite but serious gentleman,
CO: Good afternoon
ME: Good afternoon
CO: Do you swear that …….
ME, Wife: Yes
CO:So who is the winner
ME: I am
CO: So what do you do here (Asked about the work i do)
ME: explained…
CO: How long have you two being married now
ME:answered…
CO: And how old is this little guy (Pointed at our child)
ME:answered…
CO:Took the i-134 and asked how is this person related to you
ME:answered…
Then CO carefully went through the I-134 and supporting documents and asked,
CO:DO you have this persons Green card or Passport copy
ME: No, I did not see any instructions requesting that
CO: Ok give me a minute
And the CO went in and came back in a 30 seconds. Took the yellow paper out and wrote that passport or Green card is required
CO: Ok, All documents looks good to me. But i need to see the Green card or passport of your sponsor before issuing you Visa. Please ask your sponsor to email his green card copy to the embassy email address
and gave all the instructions to do so and handed over the yellow paper and kept all our documents.
Came out of the embassy and immediately asked the sponsor to send the Green card. He did so.
And two days later got a call from the embassy to collect the VISA.
And some how me and my family made it!!!!
Hope this helps others who is about to face interviews. Do not worry at all folks, its a calm and friendly environment. Just tell the honest truth and all will be fine.
Brit, to be honest you and your site is a life saver.

Oh my god what a stressful situation I have been through over the past few months waiting for my number to be current especially when my country is one of the limited countries( Egypt )with case numbers
Difficulties 1) My case number Af 30xxx became current in September
2) my wife was pregnant due date was in the same month
3) interview date was on a official holiday in the country where my interview was (Qatar)so they postponed it 10 days after my wife’s due date , which made it more difficult as she needs to travel and finish paper work for the baby passport and return back for interview.
They called me to come earlier on 14th September without my family who were in home country to get the newborn passport after delivery.
Co congratulations you are lucky
Me yes I’m thanks
Co what do u do for living
Me ….
Co blah bla bla
Me bla bla bla
All papers are complete including a liscence to do my profession in USA
But She put me on AP
I was shocked tried to inquire why ?? This was 14 September and as I know and as she told me by law she needs to inform me that after 30/9 no visas will be issued. I asked the co do I still need to bring my family , she said yeah but you will pay for them as well the interview fees but they will have same status as you as u r the principle applicant , asked her can I switch being the principal applicant with my wife she said no.
I left the embassy feeling despair on 18 sep my family came back and called the embassy for the interview, same CO : interviewed my wife and said the same thing our case is under Ap if after 30 no visas
We kept praying searched the 221(g) status which states the reasons why I was put on AP and people experience a lot of delays getting this status resolved sometimes taking 8 month, sent emails to the embassy explaining how I won’t be a public charge and I can apply for jobs and how much money we have . After 5 business days I noticed a change in the date of case update so I sent email to the embassy inquiring why they changed the date , they called me saying congratulations come with the passports, to have the visas got it all printed even for my newborn on 25 September it was all
Moral of story things can get nasty sometimes but resolve all of a sudden with no obvious reason. Thanks God
Thanks Simon for the wonderful site that help me a lot in understanding the process.

1. For Ghana Embassy you don’t need affidavit of support. But I took one as a backup.
2. Lamination doesn’t devalue your cert, ok?
October 27, 2017 at 00:43
I had two D7 in my certificate. By God’s grace I was approved. Can’t tell if they don’t accept D7.
July 22, 2018 at 17:09
What subjects did you get D7? Maths and English included?

Had my interview on the 24th of October at the American Embassy at Accra, Ghana. I am from Kumasi and my interview time was 10:30. I arrived at the embassy around 9:26 am. At 10:05 am we were called in for those having appointments at 10:30 am. We presented our appointment letters to a woman at the gate who verified us on a list of those having appointments at that time. In fact we were only 4 for dv applicants. We were scanned at the check point and allowed to go into the main room. A certain woman came and told us what we need to do. We were called one by one to pay our interview fees and do the biometric. The fingerprint was done at Window 1. It was 1452 Ghana cedis. They took our passports, certificates and photocopies of any certificate you presented. Then the time for waiting came. They went for lunch. They came around 1 oclock. The first name to be mentioned was my name. The consular officer called my name and I was still sleeping o. Then one of those I was sitting there with touched me and I heard the name and I responded on my way to Window 7. That was where my interview took place. A cute lady like me with a friendly face. I hurriedly greeted her with a smile and she responded with a smile too.
CO: How are you?
Me: I am fine. Hope you too?
CO: Ya. Raise your right hand and swear to tell the truth.
Me: (Raised my right hand) I do.
CO: What’s the name of your host?
Me: *******
(Then she’s busily typing something)
CO: Do you have any brothers and sisters?
Me: No
CO: Why do you want to go to America?
Me: I want to go to school.
CO: Okay. I am giving you this visa because you made the conversation so smooth. Congratulations! Your visa has been approved.
(Handed me a two paged document with some part painted yellow and with a red pen circled on http://www.ustraveldocs.com. )
CO: Go and call your mother.
Me: Thanks with a smile.
By the grace of God that’s how everything went. Please always greet first with a smile. It helps I can say. First impressions count a lot if you don’t have any skeletons in your closet. Thank you. Remember Accra embassy don’t demand affidavit of support but I took one along as a backup.

Interview Location : Tirana, Albania
Interview date : 27 October 2017 Time 11.00
DS-260 Unlocked 4 Times. 2NL on 15 August 2017
As Simon had said here many times, if you unlock the DS-260 and
you didn’t change crucial info, there are no delays for the appointment.
I was the main applicant. Together with me was my wife and my child.
After about 6 months of late night without sleeping, long reading here, asking
Simon about unclear situations regarding the documents, going in different offices
to collect the documents for the appointment, finally we attend the interview.
After the security check, we entered in the Waiting Room, inside the Consulate.
There were about 40-45 persons in the Hall, about 60% of the persons were
DV Applicants, and the rest were Family Riunion Applicants.
After some min, the Security Guard told me, to do the payment at the Cash Point.
After I finished the payment, the lady (was local staff) gave me the receipt, and in
the same time she asked me some short questions (about my relation with the
sponsor, and if I had been abroad before, and if Yes, where I had been ?)
I answered the lady, and I finished with her. In the last moment she gave me
some copies of the original documents that I had send to the Consulate
about 2 weeks before, via mail. Normally that docs were checked carefully.
I was staying at the Waiting Room for about 20 min. After one moment,
an American Lady, spoked in Speaker (via Audio System installed there)
my name. I went to the Window that the Lady said.
She greeted us, and she said to me, to put the fingers in the scanner.
After we finished with the Fingerprints, we waited about 1 hour and 30 min
(was our fault because we went to the Consulate, a bit late)
After a bit, finally arrived the long waited moment.
A young man (the CO) spoked in the speaker :
Family XXXXXXX to be present at the Window 4.
We went there (all the family), and we greeted him (in English)
First, He spoked in Albanian, because he didn’t know if we speak English.
CO : Did you speak English?
Me : We said YES (I and my Wife)
CO : OK, very well
The CO was looking at my File, with all the Documents inside.
CO : Are you sure that all the Docs presented here are original
and correct (as I understood, he meant that there are not false docs)
Me : Yes, are correct, 100%
CO : Put first the right hand to the Scanner, and after the left hand
Me : I did the fingerprints again (for the second time) My wife did the same thing
CO : Now, you live in the City X?
Me : Yes, in the xxxxxxxxx Street
CO : Where do you intend to go in the US?
Me : I answered the State in US
CO : OK, Good
CO : Have you ever been abroad ?
Me : Yes, many times, but mostly in short stays, only 2 times I have been abroad
for long times (I mentioned the Countries where I have been)
CO: (He asked my wife) And You (have you ever been abroad)?
My Wife : Yes, and she answered the Country where she had been.
CO : Have you ever been in trouble with law?
Me & my Wife : No, Never (All our Police Certificates were CLEAR)
CO : Where do you intend to live in the US?
Me : I answered quickly the address of my sponsor (Street and ZIP Code)
CO : What do you do in life (do you work or not)?
Me : Yes, I work in a big Company xxxxxxxxxx as (the job position)….
CO : Did you finished the High School?
Me : Yes, of course, and after that I’m graduated at the University
*** I want to mention here, that the High School Diploma is a very important
Document for the US Consulate in Tirana (for all the DV Applicants).
CO : I don’t see here (looking at my File) any thing wrong
CO : Everything is correct and your Visas are approved
CO : Welcome to the United States
Me : Thanks a lot, Sir
We greeted him, and we left the Consulate.
I want to mention that I was not sure 100% about my Affidavit of Support,
because was a bit complicated (a combination of income & savings deposit).
I had another File with about 40 extra Documents inside. If during the interview
the CO will ask for other docs, I was ready to respond him (with papers)
To be sure 100%, and to avoid the Administrative Processing, I had another
valid Affidavit of Support. But the CO accepted the first one, and I didn’t presented
the second Affidavit of Support.
I was over prepared, and the interview was not a hard exam (exclude small emotions)
ALWAYS, the DV Applicant SHOULD be Honest with the answers giving the CO !!!
Definitely, Simon in the BEST (de Facto) Lawyer for all the DV Process.
It’s a big fortune, that we have a Great DV Consultant, with such knowledges.
Thanks a lot Simon, for all you have done for the DV Applicants.
I wish Visa Approval for all the future DV Applicants (DV-2018 and DV-2019)
Sander

November 2, 2017 at 11:03
I have same problem
November 2, 2017 at 08:35
Hello all ! 🙂
I have a question. I will be interviewed in Paris in next June/July.
10 years ago, I get arrested by police due to graffiti, I was summoned to tribunal, and my sentence was to work 2 weeks for the government for free (don’t know how to call it in english).
My criminal record is empty, because it was not a big deal.
During the interview, when the man will ask me if I have had any trouble with justice, do you think I have to tell him this, even if my criminal record is empty ?!
November 2, 2017 at 10:57
You have to be truthful.

Had my interview at the US embassy in Accra. My appointment was at 10:30 so I got to the embassy around 9:40. My name was checked on the list of people who had appointments on that day and I was permitted to enter. When I got into the embassy there were several people there numbering about 70 people. I sat for about an hour and all DV applicants were called. We were briefed on the process we will go through and asked if we have any questions. DV applicants for that day were 9. We were asked to pay our visa fees and sit down. I sat for about 30min when my name was called to window 4 where the CO to my documents and took my fingerprint. She asked if I was married and I answered. She also asked where I lived and if I have travelled outside Ghana before. She then handed me a sheet of paper to go outside the embassy and take a new passport picture since the one I gave her wasn’t bright enough for their system. I went to get a new picture and brought it back to her. I sat for about an hour when my name was called to booth no. 7 where I met a white female CO.
CO: Good afternoon and sorry for the wait.
Me: I responded to her greetings and told her it isn’t a problem.
CO: Put your right hand on the fingerprint machine.
Me: I did exactly that.
CO: Do u swear to tell the truth?
Me: Yes I do.
CO: Which year did you complete SHS
Me: ××××
CO: Have you lived outside Ghana before?
Me: No
CO: Which state are you going to?
Me: ××××××
Co: who lives there?
Me:×××××
Co: is the person your relative
Me:××××××
Co: is he happy that you are coming
Me: Yes very happy
Co: Do you have any siblings
Me: Yes
Co: Wat do you want to do in US
Me: ××××××
Co: I’m issuing you the visa because u made the interview simple. She said thank you
Me: thank you too
She later handed over my original certificate to me and a 2 paged documents that I should go and create a profile on a website she circled out so they can inform me when my passport and documents are ready for pickup.
I left the embassy with a big smile.
Thank you Brit Simon. U have been a great help to me and many others. I hope my experience helps someone as I was scared in the beginning but this site helped me prepare well and I got every answer to every question that I had on this website.
God Bless you.
November 3, 2017 at 19:46
Congratulations.
Though the interview is usually simple and brief, we often get nervous about it till it comes to pass. Stories like this often help us to keep calm. Thanks for your interview experience story.
November 3, 2017 at 20:18
Excellent – congratulations!
November 4, 2017 at 22:11
The lady at window 7 always say you made the conversation smooth. Hope those interviewing in Accra get her. She’s friendly and polite. Congratulations too. One thing I don’t understand is when you create and register the profile they send to another appointment date. Papa Yaw have you noticed? After document delivery page?
November 6, 2017 at 10:14
Getty I’m even finding it difficult to create the profile. I will be glad if you could assist me. Thanks
November 9, 2017 at 14:48
Please can you reply the mail I sent to your inbox?
November 4, 2017 at 05:11
Congratulations
Hope.our interview will go easy aslo
November 4, 2017 at 06:36
BRIT PLEASE MY QUESTION IS IF THEY ASK YOU why are you applying for a visa?
November 4, 2017 at 14:04
Just the truth.
November 4, 2017 at 10:01
You simply tell them the truth @Gideon
November 4, 2017 at 21:18
Just found this today will come back next year hopefully.
November 6, 2017 at 12:54
Brit please do you have any information on Priority Date? Coz I was asked in one of the forms I am supposed to fill online and I don’t have any idea about it.
Thanks
November 6, 2017 at 14:13
DV cases don’t have a priority date.
November 6, 2017 at 20:09
I got stuck there. But I put confirmation page date there. Cos it’s a mandatory field. Did you get locked after document delivery page? Mine is asking I select an appointment date again.
November 14, 2017 at 02:45
Have you been able to complete the only profile? Got approved yesterday now trying to fill it.
November 8, 2017 at 11:02
Hi,
First of all, BIG thanks for Britsimon for the great effort done to enlighten others through the process.
My wife got selected for DV2018 and follows the timeline of what happened:
-November 2016: I and my wife (now) got engaged
-October 3, 2016: My fiance (back then) applied for the DV2018 program as a single woman
-May 6, 2017: We got married!
-May 22, 2017: we got back from our honeymoon and checked out the DV2018 result to find out that she got SELECTED for further process 🙂
She added me on the system and sent scanned copy of our marriage certificate (in Arabic)
-May 23, 2017: I and she filled our DS-260 forms carefully….YET, we made two minor mistakes:
…..1) We didn’t add my wife’s high school details and only added her college degree.
…..2) I wrote a slightly different last name for my mother than the official documents says (this mistake was discovered later after unlocking the form and already assigned an appointment)
-May 26, 2017: We sent for KCC to unlock my wife’s DS-260 form
-May 28, 2017: My wife’s form was unlocked and we added her high school degree details and re-submitted it
-September10, 2017: we got our 2NL notification and appointed an interview at American Embassy in Cairo, Egypt on November 5, 2017.
We were already working on the required documents and translations and authorizations carefully all the past time.
-October 12, 2017: we applied for the medical examination at the recommended hospital nearest to us (El-Sherouk Hospital)
-October 22, 2017: We got our medical examination closed envelope from the hospital and added them to our documents to bring to the interview
-November 5, 2017: The interview day and it went as follows:
1) We were scheduled for interview on 7:30 AM and arrived at embassy on 7:20 AM
2) An employee made a line outside the embassy to check documents (passports, 2NL letter, photocopies and Aramex paper)
NOTE: make the Aramex paper prior to the day as if you don’t, you’ll have to get expensive one from a nearby agent office close to the embassy and will cost you LE 150 per passport!
3) We got through security process where you would leave any electronics device there (if any) and go through metal detectors and x-ray for any bags or envelopes.
4) We had to wait at an outdoor waiting area as the visa process windows waiting hall was full. We waited for about 20 minute to jut get in.
5) After going indoor, we got a number and waited for around 2 hours to get called to a window where a nice lady took our well-prepared documents one by one and gave back some of the originals and kept the copies in a folder along with our passports and photos. Then, she took our fingerprints, after that, she asked us to go to another window and pay the interview visa fees
6) We got to the other window and paid $330 each (there’s an option of paying in Egyptian pounds too). then they asked us to wait for another call to our number (the same number). We waited for around one and half hour to be called again to another window.
7) At this window, we meet to CO and he chatted for only 5 minutes as follows:
CO> Do you swear that information provided is true? (to my wife)
Wife> I do
CO> asked us to do fingerprints again
CO> When did you got married?
Wife> on May 6, 2016
CO> When did you meet or got engaged?
Wife> We meet at our area church and got engaged on November 12, 2015
CO> That’s 2 years!! Where did you got married?
Wife> We got married at the same church
CO> Which church?
Wife> **Answered**
CO> Do you work?
Wife> Not now, I used to work as a teacher before marriage
CO> Did you travel outside Egypt before?
Wife> Only once on our honeymoon to **Answered**
CO> And you? (talking to me)
Me> I did travel to many countries in business trips to **Answered**
CO> Did you apply for DV site? (talking to my wife)
Wife> Yes, my fiance back then used his computer and we applied together
CO> Did anyone else helped you? or you paid for anyone to help?
Wife> No
CO> Do you have kids?
Wife> No not yet (and she pointed to her belly as she is pregnant)
CO> Congratulations, what month you’re due?
Wife> February 2018
CO> Where do you plan to live in the states?
Me> Los Angeles, California
CO> Do you know someone there?
Me> Yes, we have two close friends living there and one of them is going to host us as a start
CO> Congratulations you got approved for immigration visa
Then he handed us an instruction paper to pay $220 each for the green card before we move to USA
Thanks Brit for the amazing blog and information.
I wish the best for all DV2018 applicants out there in your interviews…it was easy…get prepared well
November 8, 2017 at 13:03
Best of luck to u for ur new life
I have one question i traveled to many countries for tourism i also i traveled to Syria in 2007 when every thing was beautiful there do u think it will cause problem
November 8, 2017 at 14:26
Perfect – well done!
November 11, 2017 at 18:16
Please is it advisable to mention that someone did the application for you? Actually the person made a mistake with your date of birth?
November 11, 2017 at 20:07
It doesn’t matter who helped you. The mistake is still your mistake. If you are not scheduled already, unlock and correct the mistake.
August 28, 2018 at 15:15
Shady, I have a question if you don’t mind, how do you make the Aramex paper? I registered the address online and there was a confirmation page (for all my family passports not only mine), is this the paper you mean? the confirmation paper?
November 8, 2017 at 15:23
Good evening mr Brit,These days i did not ask you any question but i was keeping track with your websites posted questions and your answers. What made me feel worry is the interview experiences i read .Every one is saying that the CO gave me my original certificate back and kept only the copy.
i already had an interview and put on AP but the CO kept my original certificates: High school and the university. Is that normal ?
November 8, 2017 at 15:46
Me too the CO kept my birth certificate. I’m a lil bit worried
November 11, 2017 at 18:31
@Getty kindly whatsapp me 0265281576
November 8, 2017 at 15:54
You are supposed to SHOW originals and give them copies. If you give them originals, those originals might not be returned to you.
December 22, 2017 at 07:21
Hi britsimon. I had copies of my original certificates and the originals too. But the Co kept everything including the birth certificate of my wife and son. And this has been 6 weeks. Should I be worried?
December 22, 2017 at 15:34
No, you should be patient.
November 9, 2017 at 17:29
Dear Brit and readers,
I have just returned from my interview for the DV-2018. I live in Lesotho, and we access Consular services in Johannesburg, South Africa for immigrant visas. Anyway, don’t know if I can recount word for word in the right order, but I’ll try. We filled DS-260 on 11th May, 2017, received interview notification on 20th September, 2017 to be interviewed on 9th November, 2017 – which is today.
The whole process of queuing outside the gate, being called in, showing our documents at one office before being called to the interview window happened more or less the same way that everybody has written about so please allow me not to repeat it. We were then called to the second window, where the following happened.
CO: You will need to take oaths, and one adult take oath for the two children, one for the boy and one for the girl.
Husband and I comply.
CO: Who is the main applicant?
Me: Me
CO (to husband): You can take the children with you to sit down.
Husband complies, but three year old daughter cries.
CO: Shame, is the baby crying for Mummy?
Me: Yes
CO: I need to return your original documents, your birth certificates and education certificates.
I reach out and take them.
CO: And your marriage certificate. When did you get married?
Me: 16th September 2011
CO: Why does your certificate have a different stamp date?
Me: We lost the original marriage certificate, this is a duplicate, I have a receipt showing this in my bag if you would like me to submit it.
CO: Oh, no that’s fine. You can take the baby if you want (she was still crying dramatically)
I call out to my husband to bring my baby. Baby comes and I carry her.
CO: Which countries have you stayed in for more than one year?
Me: Lesotho because that’s my home country. But also South Africa and the UK.
CO: Where do you live now, here (South Africa), or Lesotho?
Me: Lesotho
CO: OK. Where did you study while here?
Me: University of Johannesburg
CO: What did you study?
Me: BA Psychology
CO: And your husband?
Me: He studied in Lesotho and South Africa.
CO: He didn’t go with you to the UK?
Me: We got married after I returned from the UK.
I think she smiled, for the first time and I think last.
CO: Oh. What documents have you submitted to us as proof of your financial status?
Me: We’ve submitted our letters from our employers showing our financial worth in terms of gratuity upon resignation, as well as an actual statement for my husband’s pension fund, we’ve also submitted papers for our car, a Volvo we intend to sell, we’ve submitted our financial statement from our Stanlib investment, a contract save account my husband has, we’ve also submitted our salary slips which show our performance bonuses, as well as our most recent salary slips. We’ve further submitted an affidavit of support from my grandmother and guardian and whose estate I’ve discovered I’m also heir, who is willing to put up two of her properties in support of our move should the need arise.
CO: Does she live in the US, your grandmother?
Me: No
CO: Have you ever been to the US?
I don’t know why I smiled but I did and her face remained as blank as it had been for the most part. I think I smiled because the idea of moving to a place you’ve never been to seemed funny at the time. But I promptly replied, No.
CO: What do you intend to do in the US?
Me: I plan to work in the Social Sciences as I have been for a long time, specifically International Development.
CO: OK. Well, we work a lot on these papers, we even work at night, and if there is a problem we will call you. But for now everything looks to be OK and you should receive your visa in two to three weeks.
Me: Thank you so much
CO: You’re welcome.
Me: Is there anything you can give us to cross the Lesotho border from South Africa as we have to go back home?
CO: Yes, your passports.
Me: Oh, is that how it is done?
CO: Yes, remember we are a regional office we see a lot of people from different countries, Namibia etc. So you just send them back to us via courier as soon as possible.
Me: May I consult with my husband?
CO: Yes, but please hurry as there are other people behind you.
Me: No, don’t worry I will make the decision alone to take them and courier them back to you as I do not wish to waste your time. Thank you so much.
CO: Here are the details of how to send the passports.
Me: Will it affect anything?
CO: No, it won’t affect anything except time. Remember that these visas are limited so just send them back as soon as possible.
Me: Thank you, we will do that.
It honestly felt like a conversation. I concur with Simon and every other person who’s ever said this, it cannot be emphasised enough: JUST BE HONEST. For the most part I think they can tell when you’re being honest, regardless of the glitches in your documentation. I hope I will be okay, but we gave it our best shot, and we were very honest, and timely.
Simon, I know we thank you all the time. It’s from the bottom of every heart, I believe. THANK YOU SO MUCH. I have no words. Really God bless you, where someone is being selfless, God is there.
THANK YOU AND THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO POSTED ABOUT THEIR INTERVIEW EXPERIENCE.
November 9, 2017 at 17:47
Thank you for such a detailed interview experience account. Best of luck for your new adventure!
November 11, 2017 at 18:47
Thanks so much Simon – in Sesotho we have a saying that only mountains do not meet, people always do. I know the US is big but who knows!
November 11, 2017 at 20:04
That is a lovely saying.
November 14, 2017 at 02:40
BritSimon, first of all, I would like to say thank you so much for your dedication to DV visa lottery on this website and DV online forums. Your publications and responses to questions posted but others really helped me succeed. God bless you and all those who presented their problems for me to learn from. I’ll do my best to donate when possible.
I’m from Kumasi, Ghana and had my interview at the Accra Embassy on Monday, November 13.
I got to the embassy around 9:00am though I was scheduled for 10:30am. I was made to wait outside till 10:00am. The pre-interview procedure is same as people have been narrating over and over again …so let me skip to the interview session.
I was the last but one DV applicant in the queue but strangely I was the 2nd person to be called to Window 8. The first person went to Window 7…he was asked to leave and return later because he had stayed in South Africa for over a year but didn’t know he had to obtain a police report from there and submit.
It was around 1:00pm when my name was mentioned…I met a very friendly young white woman who smiled throughout my 3-minute interview. Probably it was less than 3 minutes…lol.
Before calling me to the window, I saw her going through my documents one after the other…that point I knew she’s about to call me…so I stayed alert. I was finally called to the window….
CO: Raise your right hand… bla bla bla.
As I took the oath, I saw her pull a white paper which has a paragraph highlighted in yellow…at that point I knew she had already approved my visa because before they started with the DV interview, same sheets were issued to those who were granted immigrant visas in different categories. I felt so good when I saw her writing my CN at the top right of the paper.
CO: Sorry for keeping you waiting for that long Sir.
Me: That’s Ok (with a smile).
CO: Have you traveled to the US before?
Me: No
CO: (looking on the computer) But have you traveled outside Ghana before?
Me: Yes (Went to bla bla …)
CO: Alright, how long did you stay there?
Me: Answered
CO: Where will you be staying in the US?
Me: Answered
CO: What’s your relationship with your host?
Me: Answered
CO: That’s great (smiling). Which high school did you attend and which year did you complete?
Me: Answered.
CO: And what’s your profession?
Me: Answered
CO: (Smiled broadly and picked the white sheet and said). You have so many certificates…she laughed. I have seen in your documents that you’re already certified to work as a health professional in the US.
Me: Yes (I laughed back).
CO: Ok…I guess you’re going to continue in the states. (That point she had raised the paper and was pointing to a paragraph that had the DHL office address where I’m to pick my Passport)
Me: For sure (we both laughed)
CO: Focus on this part of the paper for me please. You’ll pick your Passport from this address but before then, go to this website and create a profile….bla bla…A message will be sent to your phone and email when it’s ready for pick-up. I wish you well.
Me: Thank you (full of happiness at this point)
She returned all my original documents except my Passport and Birth Cert. I didn’t have time to check the returned docs till I returned to Kumasi to realize she retained my birth cert in addition to the Passport…lol But I’m cool…no fears since all my documents were genuine.
Note:
– I kept my answers really brief and short. I made sure I don’t give more than 2 sentences to an answer. I maintained single straight to the point sentence as answer. From what I observed from interviews that were held before me, people who talked plenty ended up getting follow up questions on and on. Avoid saying something you haven’t been asked to say. Straight to the point answers.
– I had earlier unlocked the DS260 and made changes but she didn’t ask anything about that at all. I changed my host and also corrected errors I made with some dates.
– I didn’t have my SSCE certificate but I submitted my original statement of results, print-out of the WAEC Results Confirmation order screen, + attestation letter from my school. By the way, my SSCE results were very good with “A” in Mathematics too so I had nothing to worry about though the final certificate wasn’t available. I qualified both ways…education + work experience.
– I had an introduction letter from my employer indicating the duration of my employment and my profession.
– I didn’t have any AOS. I had a signed employment document with a US employer but didn’t submit. I chose to only submit when the need arise to prove I won’t be a public charge.
– I am an internationally certified health professional with a license to practice in US so I included the certificates in the docs I submitted.
All docs were received in Window 5 by a lady who went through and returned others saying I should only show when requested (including salary slips, leave letters etc).
Well that was how brief things went for me. I couldn’t believe it myself…was just like doing a normal funny chat with someone. Straight forward question. Straight forward answer. I wish everyone who’s yet to go for interview well.
Once again, BritSimon, Ayekoo!
November 14, 2017 at 06:15
Thanks and good luck!
December 22, 2017 at 07:36
Hi Nana congrats. I want to know if you have already received your passport back? I was at the interview on the 6 November but the hospital made a mistake on my wife medical report which the Co promised to correct and went on approving us. And 2 weeks ago I followed up to the hospital if the embassy have contacted them for any correction which the hospital confirmed. Am worried cos it passed 6 weeks and still not heard anything from the embassy. They have all my original documents

November 15, 2017 at 18:11
You can read – you will notice most embassies are the same….
