One of the blog members asked for a page solely for people to post their interview experiences. So this is it – with some rules!!!
First – NO questions on this page. Let’s keep it for interview experiences only – good and bad. I will probably delete questions to try and keep the page focused on interview experiences
Please at least mention your embassy (city and country, like Accra, Ghana) and brief details about what questions you were asked and any interesting points about documents you were asked for and any tips you can give others. This will be useful to others who have not yet had their interviews. People could use the search function to look for their embassy.

Hello Britsimon,
Hope you are doing fine, sorry for late entry
I had my interview in the US embassy of Amman-Jordan on the 7th of November,
I have been there at 12 pm and my appointment was at 1 pm , i have already handed the documents set before the appointment in two week as per local embassy procedures.
At 12.30 pm they start getting us into embassy , after security checks we get into big hall full of seats facing the windows where interviews are happening.
At 1.00 pm they’ve started to call people names, i have been called to a window and a gentleman was there , he asked me about my education certificate and I’ve answered his simple quistion.
Then he asked me to sit and wait for another call , in 5 minutes again I was called to another window and a kind lady asked me to pay the fees of 330$ and gave me a receipt then asked me to sit and wait for another call.
I have wait for another 5 minutes before being called by a guy to another window , they Took my fingerprints and asked me to sit and wait for another call.
Again after 5 minutes my name was called and i went to another window where a cute lady smiled and started to ask me
CO: do you speak English, and the same question in Arabic
Me: yes i do
CO: raise your right hand , do you swear that all the information you have provided is ture and accurate
Me: yes i do
CO: what did you study
Me: answered her quistion
CO:where do you want to go in USA
Me: answered her with the state name
CO:with whom you are going to stay there(the host)
Me: answered her quistion
CO:you was born in ****** and you have a ***** nationality
Me: yes that’s ture
CO: is your father and mother still alive and living together
Me: yes they are
CO: congratulations your visa is approved, welcome to the united states and wish you a happy life there
Me: thanked her with a big smile and happy face
CO asked me to sit and wait for another call and i have waited for about 5 minutes then was called to a new window where a kind lady handed me a paper with instructions how to receive my passport.
Ive thanked the lady and went out of embassy by 1.30 pm and the stress was gone
The accuracy of information and the truth will always make things smooth.
Thanks a lot for your guidance Mr.Brit you have helped me and all other lottery winners

Hi everybody,
I just had my interview at the US Consulate in Amsterdam. I think my experience is pretty similar to all the experiences above. I came in early and they let me in immediately. I had to take of my shoes and belt and go through a security gate, my papers, shoes and belt went through the x-ray thing (the ones they also use at the airport). I was then allowed to enter the next room where a very nice lady welcomed me in and registered my passport. I then had to wait for a little bit to be called to a window. This guy told me his job was to put together all my documents, so I had to give him some of the documents I brought (high school diploma, police records etc.). I had printed the DS-260 Application instead of the confirmation page so I got kinda stressed out, but he told me it was fine and asked me to e-mail it to them as soon as possible (I e-mailed it right away and they responded about an hour later that they had received it in good order). After that I had to go into another room to pay the fee, and come back and hand the receipt to the first officer. I was then asked to sit down for a little while longer. After about 15 minutes I got called to another window for my actual interview, I don’t think I recall everything she asked but the conversation went pretty much like this:
OFFICER: Welcome, I’m gonna ask you to put your right hand up for an oath, do you swear that all the information that you have provided is true.
ME: Yes
OFFICER: Perfect, I see that we miss the confirmation page, did you fill out your DS-260?
ME: Yes, I did, this is the application (shows application) I just didn’t print the confirmation page.
OFFICER: Allright no problem. Are you married? Or have you been married before?
ME: No
OFFICER: Have you had a US Visa before?
ME: Yes, a J1 visa.
OFFICER: Did you bring it?
ME: It’s in my old passport, I don’t have it anymore.
OFFICER: Okay, no problem. So what is your plan for when you move to America?
ME: I want to go back to where I lived before and become a teacher.
OFFICER: Do you have papers for that or will you need to go to take courses?
ME: I have my bachelor in education but I’ll need to take some tests to get a license and I’ll probably have to take an American History and Culture course.
OFFICER: Okay, did you bring your bachelors degree.
ME: hands over the degree
OFFICER: Okay perfect, how are you planning on taking care of yourself, do you have savings?
ME: Yes I have savings
OFFICER: Did you bring a bank statement?
ME: hands over the statement
OFFICER: Okay that will be fine. Did you do a little dance when you found out you won?
ME: Well it was a pretty big dance really
OFFICER: Well it looks like everything is in order, just e-mail us the confirmation page ASAP and we’ll process your Visa
ME: Wow, awesome, thank you!
OFFICER: Holds on to all my paperwork
ME: Do I get my offical degree back?
OFFICER: No we’re going to hold on to it, you’ll get it back when you enter the US.
ME: Okay perfect, thank you so much.
Leaves the consulate in a state of complete happiness. The interview was Tuesday and I got my passport back today (thursday).
@BritSimon, I do have a few questions:
1) Is it a problem they held on to my official degrees?
2) I got my passport back, but it’s in the envelope with the other papers, can I take it out?
3) I’m visiting family in Florida for Christmas, I fly into Washington DC and I have a 2h 50m layover before flying to Tampa. Will this be enough to process all the papers they need to process?
Thanks in advance!
November 16, 2017 at 18:14
1. No.
2. There is a sealed envelope – don’t open that.
3. That is a short time – you might be OK – but you will need to rush as much as possible.
January 3, 2018 at 23:47
I have an interview tomorrow but i’m worried if they are going to keep my original baccalaureate certificate because I can only withdraw it for less than 1 week ,which i did today in order to pass the interview. Anything more than that means i’m no longer a student, but i will get my second diploma in May and can then travel to the US (if approved of course), and i really need that diploma for my future plans. Do the embassy cooperate in such matters?
January 4, 2018 at 00:06
Well make certain you take copies of that and any other important documents. Offer the copy – and show the original.

MT
HELLO UNCLE SIMON!
MY DV INTERVIEW EXPERIENCE
COUNTRY: GHANA
VENUE: US EMBASSY- ACCRA
TIMELINE
2nd November, 2016 – Entered the DV lottery (A bit late was what I thought about my entry).
4th May, 2017 – Checked and I was selected: 1NL (Praise is to God because it was my second selection actually. The first one being back in 2008. Therefore, it is scientifically wrong to think opportunity really does come but once. Just keep fighting when you miss one. Giving up is rather the right preparation for failure and a lifetime of regret).
2nd June, 2017 – Filled my DS-260. Never unlocked.
20th September, 2017 – Received interview appointment: 2NL
16th October, 2017 – Did my medicals and police report
24th October, 2017 – Picked up my medical and police report
15th November, 2017 – Interview day. It was at 10:30 AM.
PREPARATION OF DOCS
After I discovered I was selected I immediately set out to put together all the necessary documents:
1NL
Confirmation page of DS-260
2NL
Passport (set to expire in 2022). But its photocopy was returned to me.
Birth certificate and a photocopy
2 passport size pictures (5cm X 5cm).
Sealed medical report (X-Ray and immunization record not inclusive)
Police Certificate/report
Original High School certificate, a certified copy and a photocopy.
Private SSSCE (Nov/Doc) examination certificate (same as high school certificate though).
Teacher Training College certificate, a certified copy and a photocopy
BA certificate from UG, a certified copy and a photocopy
BA transcript and a photocopy
NB: I also made sure I carried other documents: all my employment documents, my very first birth certificate (over three decades ago), my admission letters, my Junior High School certificate, all my result slips.
INTERVIEW EXPERIENCE
Though my interview was 10:30 am, I got there as early as between 7:00am and 7:30am. The reason being I live far away from Accra and wasn’t ready to take any chances after spending the night in the bus.
We were called in at around 9:45am after people scheduled for 7:30am, 8:30am and 9:30am had been called.
There is an initial queue outside at the gate where a lady checks your 2NL and then crosscheck with the list of expected interviewees for the day.
You then make it through the various security checks others have already explained.
In the interview hall, two ladies just at the door will take the 2NL. Then there is another queue while waiting.
For about 30 minutes all DV cases were called to Window 1. We had others ahead of us but in my group we were about 10. A nice gentleman talked to us about the process. Opened for questions and addressed all concerns. I was particularly made hugely comfortable here because the answer to my question on laminated documents couldn’t have come at a better time. And that’s NO PROBLEM WITH ANY LAMINATED DOCUMENT IF ONLY IT’S GENUINE. What a RELIEF!!! Because all along I was made to believe it could pose a problem by a friend who turned out to be totally ignorant about it. In fact, all my certificates were laminated except one (the NOV/DEC private exam certificate). And that’s because I’d only recently taken it for the interview. LESSON: ALWAYS FOLLOW UNCLE SIMON.
We were then made to make the payment of the $330. You could do this in cedis or dollars. Only one person paid in the later though. It also got interesting at this point when it got everyone confused including the US Embassy staff (the Cashier and the Gentleman at window 1) as to which dollar to cedi rate to pay. After a moment and with the clarification, we were asked to pay GHS 1,452 (that’s in Ghana cedis,) for $1: GHS 4.40 rate instead of the initially required figure of GHS 1,518 for a rate of $1: GHS 4.60. This was because the rate had changed from the previous day. BONUS! So after the payment and handing over the receipt to the ladies seated at the door to the entrance of the hall, I took a seat again for about another 30 minutes. But we thought the Cashier was a bit rude. However, I personally thought maybe, he was simply having a bad day because every other staff at the Embassy was unbelievably nice.
I was then called to Window 4 for documents collection and finger print scanning. I had to move to Window 2 to complete the process because my thumbprints especially, were poor. At Window 44, the lady asked me just two questions:
Lady: Where are you coming from?
MT: XXXXXX
Lady: What’s your phone number?
MT: XXXXXXXX
And that was all.
There was again another wait for about 45 minutes before I heard my name at Window 4. This was the actual interview. A white gentleman was the CO and the following ensued:
Note: CO – Consular Officer, MT– Me
CO: Raise your hand and swear to tell the truth that all you will say will be correct.
MT: I do swear.
CO: I see you have a degree. In which field is your degree?
MT: Psychology and Linguistics (combined).
CO: In which year did you apply for the lottery?
MT: 2016
CO: Are you married or have any children?
MT: No. I’m single.
CO: Have you travelled outside Ghana before?
MT: No.
CO: Have you made arrangement about where you will be heading to in the US?
MT: Yes. Connecticut.
CO: Do you have family living there?
MT: No. A very good friend.
That was that.
The CO then said, “Good”. Picked up a paper with the title: COLLECTING YOUR ISSUED U.S. IMMIGRATION VISA. Pointed at a highlighted portion and told me to create a visa profile at http://www.ustraveldocs.com/gh to make my visa collection easier. He also advised me not to make any travel arrangements outside Ghana as they’d have to keep my passport with them for the processing of the visa in the next 10 days.
So I got approval. It was as simple as Uncle Simon has always said. The principle is the same. However, prepare, read and PRAY. I hope my experience will be of help to other guys.
A BIG thank you to God and to you Uncle Simon.
November 18, 2017 at 17:22
It is simple if you have followed the instructions, prepared well and told the truth. So well done to you. Good luck!
November 18, 2017 at 21:06
What happened when you were selected in 2008? Denial?
And why write Nov Dec when you had ssce?
November 19, 2017 at 15:44
No, not denial. In 2008, I was in the university, my mum had diabetes and I had a lot on my plate. So I just ignored it and just kept on entering in the subsequent years.
With the NOV/DEC, I just needed to make some of my grades a lot better looking into the future. And I never even used it actually. I only went for it for the interview as I didn’t want to leave any stone unturned. So all certificates!
November 19, 2017 at 04:16
Please MT, is your sssce novdec has your picture on it and which year was it?
November 19, 2017 at 15:59
SSSCE was in 2002. It had no picture originally. But when the school decided to laminate it for safe keeping, they placed my passport size photograph on the top right corner. I guess it’s one they took back then. So I wasn’t the one who actually laminated it but as Uncle Simon said: Once it’s in your name it’s your responsibility. lol.
Nov/Dec was in 2006. That was after I completed TTC, now COE. And yes it has a picture.
November 19, 2017 at 18:31
my docs are laminated …will they ask me why i laminated it…some told me they became suspicious..but my certs are geniune…
November 20, 2017 at 08:06
I don’t know. I asked about laminated documents and I was told they do not have any problem once it’s genuine. And I wasn’t asked about it at all. So once your are genuine, you have nothing to worry about I guess.
November 29, 2017 at 23:55
Wow, do you know I was at the interview with you? When they 1st call all the Dv winners coming for the interview at window one, where they made as known where to & how to pay the visa fee etc. Good also knows Britsimons, he as been a great help to as. God bless him for the good work!!!
December 1, 2017 at 15:11
Hi I am John and I also went tru the same process at the us embassy in Ghana. And that was 6th November. I still waiting for them to call me for my passport. I am a bit worried why they are not calling me since I was told it could be ready within 10 business days. Could it be because of my family?.
December 2, 2017 at 08:30
Have you created the Profile on http://www.ustraveldocs.com/gh……..you can only receive your Passport with the visa in it after the creating the Profile
They will also send you e-mail
December 2, 2017 at 08:35
Thanks. I created the profile.
December 5, 2017 at 14:21
Hi Simon I had a nice interview with my family a month ago On the 6 November in Accra . My wife and son. But before the Co hand over the highlighted paper to me to create a profile just like any other person he added that he had to correct a mistake on my wife medical report with the hospital we did the medical but it’s not our mistake. Could it be the reason why I have not heard anything from them about my passport and all my documents yet ? Who also has his interview on the 6 and has already received his passport. I am a bit worried. I created a profile for myself and my family too.
December 5, 2017 at 14:42
I don’t know if that is the reason – you could contact the embassy and ask, or contact the physician to see if/when the mistake was rectified.
December 6, 2017 at 15:58
That is great bro. I have also had my interview on the 6november. And still waiting for my passport. Have you received your passport and documents back already. ?

Hoping to b selected next year God willing
Congratulations
November 20, 2017 at 11:24
Hi Simon
I just wanted to ask if anyone has an experience of having their interview in a country that is not their birth country. Do we need to follow their instructions even though we are not citizens of that country but have been living here for the last 5 years, legally of course?
A bit confused here
Thanks
November 20, 2017 at 15:12
Follow the embassy instructions. It’s that simple.
November 21, 2017 at 10:45
I know it sounds simple but what actually is confusing for me is that one of the required documents is Australian Citizenship certificate but we are not. As well as some court documents, name change certificates ( does this mean changing my last name when i got married) etc, which I’m not sure are they meant to be issued from our country of chargeability?
Thanks
November 21, 2017 at 15:39
For goodness sake – you are over complicating everything in your mind. If you marry in country a and charged to country b and interview in country c. You only have the marriage cert from country a – RIGHT??? So – when the embassy in country c asks for documents you present what you have. See – simple.
November 22, 2017 at 01:09
I know i know, you’re probably right, over complicating in order to get and do everything right.
Thanks
November 22, 2017 at 06:16
The easiest way to do things right is follow instructions.
December 1, 2017 at 15:15
Simon it’s me John again. I just want to know if there is anyone who collected it’s passport already after their interview on 6th November?
December 1, 2017 at 15:52
Yes of course.
November 20, 2017 at 12:03
Dear Nada,
Kindly follow US embassy instructions that where your interview will be that where you are residing, NOT your birth country.
November 21, 2017 at 12:26
Hi Sir,
I am a Ghanaian by birth but had my secondary education certificate from Côte d’ Ivoire. I later changed my other names to tally with my father’s names. I then swore an Affidavit at The District court to tally with my former and current documents and acquire a new birth certificate. I also made publication of change of my names in national Daily graphics. My Original high school certificate and transcript got burned but no duplicate was issued even though Ghana National Fire Service issued a notification letter to the authority in Côte d’ Ivoire to replace the burnt documents. It is written NO DUPLICATE IS ISSUED. But I Have the CERTIFIED COPY TRUE TO THE ORIGINAL and their English Translated copies. I also acque the Police clearance from Côte d’ Ivoire. I am a 2018 selectee and my interview is for December. I got married in Februrary. My questions
1. Are the processes of change of my names a hindrance to my visa approval?
2. Is there any supporting documents that I should acquire Since I have those documents?
3. What advice are giving me for my interview to be successful?
4. What may be possible questions related to my marriage?
Best Regard
November 21, 2017 at 15:34
1. Possibly.
2. I have no idea.
3. Be truthful.
4. I don’t know.
November 21, 2017 at 13:30
hello Sir
i am dv winner 2018 i am married and i am the principal applicant. my husband doesnt speak english.
1. does he need to have an interpreter during our interviews?
2. do we have some additional document to submit online after the interview has been scheduled?
3. how much should we pay for the medical?
4. the number of time we should pass in our country before reach to USA does it depend to the time we did the medical check or the time when the visa has been approved?
thanks for your answers…
November 21, 2017 at 15:30
1. No
2. Varies by embassy – follow their instructions.
3. Varies by country.
4. Medical date plus 6 months.
November 22, 2017 at 05:36
How do you know that your entry is disqualified on the grounds of photo being edited?
Also,if the system is so strict, why were some people selected with old pictures in recent times?
November 22, 2017 at 06:14
You won’t know. It is up to them which cases they disqualify.
November 22, 2017 at 05:43
1.When is the Lottery actual run after the entry period?
2.Is it just after the entry period
3.Why does it take so long for the computer to randomly select winners and you have to wait till the following year
4.Don’t you think the state department recoded the system towards something for an agenda and told us it was a technical hitch
5.Why didn’t they check the site on time before the entry date?
November 22, 2017 at 06:13
What does any of that matter. They have a process. They follow the process.
November 22, 2017 at 06:19
Brit sorry i mistakenly clicked on the interview experience page for questions.Kindly delete my two questions from the page.
November 22, 2017 at 12:43
My Interview Experience
Accra, Ghana
Date: 20 November, 2017
I, the Principal Applicant with my Spouse, and Child arrived at the Consular Section at 10 am but was told to stick to our appointment time of 10:30am so we had to wait out in the car till it was 10:30am.
When we were allowed in, all security protocols were observed. You won’t be allowed to take in any fluids (my baby is a month old so we had to enter with some water and formula but the water was taken from us)
At the Visa section we were ask to present our appointment letter, which we did and were asked to sit down. After a while, all DV applicants were called to window 6 and briefed on the requirements and amount to pay. Since the rates keeps changing I had all my fees in USD, $330 x 3 to be precise.
They usually attend to applicants of other visa categories before DV applicants so we were patient. After the payment, we were called to window 2 for documents as follows;
Passports
Passport Pictures (2 each)
Birth Certificates and Copy
Marriage Certificate and Copy
Educational Certificates and Transcripts with a copy each
Proof of Relationship (Not Marriage Certificate) with your spouse. Wedding Album, Photos, Chats etc.
After sorting them out she took our fingerprints and asked that we sit and wait to be called.
It appeared that the day was a good one as most were getting their visa approved. Then we were called to window 7
CO: Please raise your right hand and swear
Me and Spouse: blah blah blah
CO: How many times did you enter the lottery?
Me: You mean over the years?, like 3 to 4 times
CO: So this is your first time of getting selected, right?
Me: Yes please.
CO: Did you enter DV 2018 more than once?
Me: No
CO: Your baby is a month old, right?
Me and Spouse: Yes, please
CO: Which year did you complete High School?
Me: xxxx
CO: What is your profession?
Me: xxxxx
He then flips quickly through all my educational certificates and transcripts
CO: Which year did you complete University?
Me: xxxx
He flips quickly through all my educational certificates and transcripts AGAIN.
(PS: The institution (a Private University College with accreditation) I schooled in issued a certificate after each stage of study i.e Certificate, Honours Diploma, Professional Diploma, and Degree) and the institution’s name had also changed since I complete school.
On the University Certificate the awarding body is XXXXX and the training institution is YYYYY whiles on the transcript the training institution is ZZZZZZ.. YYYYY and ZZZZZ is the same institution.)
CO: Due to the limit time I have to attend others, I would have to put you on Administrative Processing (AP) so I can do my checks after normal interview hours. ok
Me: how long would it usually take?
CO: Two weeks, usually but I can’t promise anything.
He then issued me a form and circled administrative processing and signed, returned passports, birth certificates, and marriage certificate but kept all my original educational certificates and transcripts.
So I will be waiting patiently for their response.
All thanks to Britsimonsays.com and immigration.com for their immense support and insight.

November 28, 2017 at 19:16
I don’t think so – although you seem to forget that I have no idea which country you are in so your education system is unknown to me.
November 27, 2017 at 07:48
HI uncle Brit…please what’s the answer to questions like this in the dv visa interview

YOUR answers!!!
November 29, 2017 at 10:39
Pls @Britsimon the question I want to ask is, my father died when I was very young but his younger brother has been the one who took us through to this far so I used his name on my birth cert instead of my birth father and we are having the same middle name too so I think it no problem but could it be disturbing? Thank you.
November 29, 2017 at 14:49
It is disturbing that you can create a birth certificate with incorrect data on it – yes.
November 29, 2017 at 11:13
Pls @Britsimon I kindly want to ask another question. Old is the case number different from the confirmation number used on the 2NL?
November 29, 2017 at 14:49
They are two different numbers, yes.
November 29, 2017 at 20:37
Hi please am asking again: am a dv 2018 winner from Ghana having D7 in integrated science-can this affect my case?
November 29, 2017 at 21:44
Yes.

Got to the Embassy around *9:15am*, went for something to eat since the main interview or entry time was *10:30am* I also took the opportunity to get my US Passport Picture Size. *At Exactly *10:00am* we were called to form a line_where the lady check your appointment letter wit her list to see if u really bn scheduled. Same appointment letters were taken at the Reception when you enter.
At *12:17pm* we were *(DV PA’s )* called to Window 3 and briefed about the whole process and given the opportunity to ask question we got. Being exposed to lots of interview experience from Brit Simons blog I felt equipped so no questions asked ?. The Gentleman at Window 3 Gabe each and every one a visa quotation sheet_printed on it was various visa fees for different Visa categories be it Family based, work etc. But DV visa fee was already ticked by the gentleman at window 3. We were instructed to write our names on it and directed to go make payment at the cashier….plz always carry smaller denominations with you, it gonna save u time and hustle_lolz.
In an hour and half we were called to *Window 2* msubmit documents *( ORIGINALS WITH PHOTOCOPY BENEATH)* and to take a seat after. It was in *”turns”* (one at a time ) the lady asked;
~ where I stay?
~ if am married?
~ got any kids?
After the little chat she instructed me to place my four fingers on the biometric laser machine for finger printing, she also gave me back documents not needed. Took about 3mins at *Window 2*
I sat for 45mins_later heard my name called to *Window 8*, she had a sunshine smile ?; I told her “you look gorgeous this afternoon” she laughed and said you flattering me. I smiled back.
CO: So you are Frank, Right?
Me: Yep!
CO: alryt *Frankie* ( she called me Frankie…hahaha )_raise up your right hand day after me……( same old anthem) lol
Me: I swear to tell the truth
CO: ok, which year did you complete High School?
Me: I answered.
CO: What did you do after High School?
Me: I answered.
CO: Who is your host?
Me: My Brother
CO: wow! he also won the lottery? (I was shocked tho_how come she knew my brother also won the lottery) lol_background checks I guessed…hmm
Me: I said, yes he won in 2008_
she laughed and said then it runs through the family. We laughed together.?
CO: last one Frankie what do you intend to do in the USA?
Me: Join the US Army Logistics Corps and take the opportunity to serve and get a degree in “Reverse Logistics”
CO: That’s good..can see you got big plans…( she was typing all the time and talking) The US Army got lot of logistics you know?
Me: I Smiled.
CO: Welcome to the United States Of America Frankie( she hand me a white paper with yellow filter highlighted. She circled http://www.ustravledocs.com/gh
to create profile)
I was head over heels, I felt like the whole world was mine that very moment.
ME: God Bless the United States Of America ??
she laughed out loud. And said please don’t forget to create the profile and be a good soldier.
First of All I want to thank Jehovah for making my imagination a reality, Brit Simon, sm1mom, sussie QQQ and my whatsapp DV family for the wonderful Support and encouragement
GOD INDEED BLESS THE UNITED STATE OF AMERICA !

Nov 30 interview – Montreal
First off everyone was very friendly and polite. I had a toddler with me and was nervous in how to keep her occupied and I happy to find a very nice play area set up with books and interactive play cubes. There was a baby change table in the washroom. The interviewer was very friendly and made me feel at ease . So rest assured It’s not something to be nervous about . If you have your documents in order neatly in a binder that helps.
December 5, 2017 at 03:23

Hi winner. Any news about your application?
December 4, 2017 at 17:38
Hi Brit Simon, below is my interview experience today in Accra, Ghana.
INTERVIEW EXPERIENCE
My interview was 10:30 am, I got there by 10:00 am and went to take american size passport picture opposite the embassy and finally got to the embassy entrance around 10:15 am.
We queued outside at the entrance where a lady checks your appointment letter (2NL) and then crosscheck with the list of expected interviewees for the day. We then moved into the embassy through the security check point into the main hall.
In the main hall, you drop your 2NL with the ladies at the gate then take your seat.
After about 45 minutes all we were called to Window 1. A Ghanaian gentleman talked to us about the process. Opened for questions and addressed all concerns.
We were then made to make the payment of the $330. You could do this in cedis or dollars. After the payment and handing over the receipt to the ladies seated at the door to the entrance of the hall, I took my seat again for about another 45 minutes if not more.
I was then called to Window 3 for documents collection and finger print scanning. The lady asked me two questions:
Lady: Where are you live?
Me: blah blah
Lady: What’s your phone number?
Me: blah blah
I went to seat for another 45 minutes before I was called to Window 9 for my interview. A white gentleman was the CO:
CO: Raise your hand and swear to tell the truth that all you will say will be correct.
Me: I do swear.
The CO then handed me my original copies and then continued.
CO: I see you went to the university of mines, do u work in the mines?
Me: No. blah blah blah
CO: How is ur job?
Me: blah blah.
CO: All ur documents looks fine, have you made arrangement about where you will be heading to in the US?
Me: Yes, blah blah
CO: Have you traveled to USA before?
Me: No.
And that was it, less than 2 minutes.
The CO then congratulated me and picked a paper and pointed at a highlighted portion and told me to create a visa profile at http://www.ustraveldocs.com/gh. He also advised me not to make any travel arrangements outside Ghana as they’d have to keep my passport with them for the processing of the visa in the next two weeks.
Thank you so much Brit. God richly bless you
December 4, 2017 at 18:57
Nicely done. Congratulations!

December 8, 2017 at 19:26
My interview was on 6th November at the accra American embassy …. … I think older comments have given detailed information on how everything works before the final interview with a consular so I ll go straight to my interview with the consular ! First of, I was called to window 11 … that’s where my interview took place
CO: Hello Doreen, how are you and sorry for the wait…
Me: very well thanks, yourself ??
CO: I’m fine ?. Okay raise your right hand and swear that everything you have provided and everything you say is nothing but the truth
ME: I swear
CO: okay Doreen…. to begin with, why do you want to immigrate?
ME: I want to further my education and work as well
CO: Ok…how many times did you enter the lottery in 2016.
ME: once
CO: ok I see you went to university of Ghana, legon.
ME: correct
CO: what was your best subject in high sch?
ME: blah blah
CO: what was your worst?
ME: blah blah
CO: I see someone entered the lottery for u in 2003 but omitted your last name and changed your place of birth ….?who was that ?
ME: my dad ?
CO: you have siblings?
ME: yes
CO: mention them
ME: Answered…
CO: great… congratulations… take this sheet and follow the instructions to know the status of your visa … it ll be ready in 2 to 3wks… thank you Doreen.?
ME: thank you sir…
Left a lot out because it was not so formal … it was like a chat ! We talked about how US education is quite different from Ghana’s and a lot… And I loved it … alll they need us truthful, confident and organized interviewees! Never ever try to lie !!!
NB: I had errors on my documents but they were all overlooked or unnoticed…
First: my wassce certificate had 1992 instead of 1991
Again: in filling my ds260… I wrote just child studies instead of family and child studies as my course of study but I wasn’t even asked anything on those errors! All the best everybody.. Trust in God..Faith over fear always! and thank you Brit!
December 8, 2017 at 21:21

Hi Britsimons, I’m a Dv 2018 winner, I went to the interview on 15th November 2017, but after the interview the consulate saw that I’m with not my Medicals, so she ask to go &I do it, which she gave me some details to send the medicals through, so 28th November 2017, I sent my medicals & passport to the embassy, which they gave me a shit written on it that, when everything is in order, they will send my passport and other stuff in two weeks time. And today which is a day to the two weeks, the send me a mail stated that: documents status (US docs), Your documents have been collected from embassy/consulate, the passport number being returned is ********, you have chosen your documents to be delivered on the following location **********.
Pls what is the meaning?
December 11, 2017 at 20:17
They are telling you they are sending your passport. Just wait to receive it.
December 12, 2017 at 05:25
I’m really nervous, cos I not know whether is approved or not. God will do. But I’m really surprised about the mail, cos after the mail was sent in some minutes time, I didn’t see the mail in my inbox, but found it in the trash, & this morning when checking the trash too it as disappeared. I just can’t think far.mmm
December 12, 2017 at 07:06

December 12, 2017 at 20:45
Congrats Tim what could be the problem with mine. ? I can’t even track my passport. What should I do? I need advise pls
December 12, 2017 at 23:39
Hi Brit
thanks infinitely for what you do for us.
Sir in dv 2017 me and my girlfriend played as married. Honestly we understood nothing about the process and shouldn’t ve played that way. this year am selected as single because i understood the process all thanks to the blog you share with us. So i went into dv lottery green card office wanting to know the effect of past entries on tbe present and found out the present entry is independent from the past entries and thus has no effect on the present. please Sir i know u are very knowledgeable and more experience about the process. Did i understand the green card office information well and me telling the truth of not understanding the process that time can’t set me free during the interview or it was too big a mistake?
thanks very much
December 13, 2017 at 00:12
The CO has access to the previous entry. That might give them concerns or they might ignore it.
December 21, 2017 at 02:10
Hi Brit Thanks once again for the good work u r doing to assist all the dv winners, my sister is 2018 winner and her case number is 489* but she submitted her DS 260 two days ago base on your experience wen will she be scheduled or she will be part of March VB,we need ur advice pls
December 21, 2017 at 19:51
Wait and see.
December 21, 2017 at 15:07
Hello,
Hope our interview story will help you prepare more and better.
Case Number: 2018AF77XX
DS260 sent on July 3rd, modified on July 5th to add our newborn.
Received 2NL on Oct 18 with wrong Embassy Location. KCC scheduled interview in our home country Cameroon, while we have been living abroad for 7 years, Brussels in Belgium for the last 3. We then asked US embassy in Brussels if they were willing to take our case if transferred from Cameroon, which they accepted and contacted Cameroon Embassy. We knew it was risky as it can take months, but we were very lucky it took only 3 weeks. On Nov 17 we received official email from Us embassy in Brussels informing we have interview on Dec 12 at 2pm, the same date initially scheduled by KCC in 2NL.
Interview Story:
We arrived at 13h45 at the gate, did the security check, and entered interview room at 2pm sharp. We waited for 5 min and a nice lady called us at window 8 and asked me the principal applicant, school diplomas, weeding certificate, police records, passport, medical results, pictures, and birth certificate. Same for my wife and our baby boy. After gathering and checking all the copies, gave us back the originals, and asked us to pay visa fee, 330$ * 3 and took back the receipt.
We the waited for 30 min, and she told us there is a technical issue with the system, she can’t retrieve our file. She apologized for the inconvenience and asked for my phone number in order to call us once the the isue will be fixed. However, she asked if we were willing to come back 2 days after at same time for interview. We said yes. She apologized again and i said no worries M’am, we will come back.
The following day, at 8h47, she called us to confirm the interview. We showed up at at 13h45 and got in at 2h10 pm. a lady called us to take fingerprints, and we waited till 3 pm to have the CO call our number to counter 2.
Very Nice guy, he took our fingerprints again, and chit chat a little bit with us on the surname of our baby, made some jokes about our baby not having a police record. Checked again all documents we provided the first time we came and said the magic word: “congratulations your visa have been approved”. My wife could’nt hold her tears. He gave us 3 tickets for passport pick up 7 days after. Wished us a very pleasant stay in the US and only then, asked:
Where do you plan to live?
We answered: Midland texas.
He replied: The weather is much better there. congratulations again, good luck.
I looked at my wife, with amazed eyes, wondering if that really happened. He asked NO QUESTION AT ALL. He just checked our documents and finger prints and just approve like that. I still can’t believe it.
I just picked up our passports with printed visas.
I really want to specially thank Simon for the masterpiece work you do. We had over 100 pages of supporting documents with us, had 50 questions we prepared in case we would be asked, all that thanks to this amazing Blog.
I know you don’t believe in God Simon, but i do, and i wish for all the best for you, your little girl, wife and children.
December 21, 2017 at 18:45
Thanks for the detailed story. Awesome to pass with no questions – but well done for being prepared. Preparation makes you confident – and that seems to make interviews easier.
I see you are planning to live in Midland. That was a worsening jobs position, and is focused on oil and gas – do you have experience in that industry and/or a job already lined up?
December 21, 2017 at 22:03
Many Thanks Simon. We are considering moving to houston instead. Less gas & oil focus as Midland and more job opportunities in finance as i am a business analyst in financial markets. Anyway am not afraid to do something else or climb the latter.
December 22, 2017 at 15:25
Hi Brit..In reference to states with better job opportunities, do you think Northern Virginia and its environs is among the best places to start with?Which states would you recommend to DV holders? Thanks.

Thanks Brit..I hate the fact that i had not seen this post after reading so much on your blog, I could’t have disturbed you Sir. Many thanks and merry Christmas. Will get back with my experience around summer time when i expect my interview.
December 22, 2017 at 07:50
Hi britsimon I want to ask one question. Have some countries reached the ceiling of the number of visa they are entitled to. ?
Or the US have already ended given visas in 2017 due to the number of visa they give each year. I learnt this year they have exceeded the 55000
Some of us who had our interview in 2017 could they be waiting for 2018 to Issiue us? Thanks
December 22, 2017 at 15:32
What you have learnt is nonsense.
The DV year runs from October to September.
December 23, 2017 at 15:21
Brit ma question is what is the benefit for green card holder?
December 23, 2017 at 15:25
You get to live and work in the USA.
December 23, 2017 at 15:35

Good morning simon. Pls its been 7 weeks since my interview i was appouved by the co and since i cant track my passport nor heard anything from the delivery center. I created the profile too. I am not too comfortabke about this. What do you think is going wrong with my passport. ? I wasnt put on any administrative processing too. I need advise.
December 28, 2017 at 00:47
You obviously ARE on AP. I don’t know why. All you can do is wait.
December 28, 2017 at 12:49
Whynis it that th e co didnt tell me. And he should have told me.
December 28, 2017 at 15:23
The decision may have been made after the interview. That happens sometimes – there is no obligation to tell you.
December 28, 2017 at 16:08
Thank you simon. And i confess this AP is really stressful. I guess i will havenot before my medical expire in march
December 28, 2017 at 20:31
How long does it take for the AP to be ready. ?
December 28, 2017 at 20:37
There is no “standard” time.
December 28, 2017 at 23:37
U just hope the embassy will not allow my x ray to expire before they release my passort. And one more thing. Does it mean that when you are put on AP you cant track your case or your passport?
December 29, 2017 at 00:04
Again. There is no timeline, no tracking, just waiting.

Good morning simon. I just check the status of my case and its showed AP first and then changed to ready. However one of the case is showing Ap. And the other two are showing ready. This is my question. Does that mean that my son and myself have our visa ready except my wife ? Could it be the reason why her case is shouwing AP and my son and i are showing ready?/

Hi simon. I can finally track my case this morning after my successful interview in november 06 . but on the derivative case numbers case 01 os still showing AP while 02 and 03 are showing ready. However i can see written *ready* at the top of the page . cpuld it be any mostake or is just a system update. And if the number 01 is my derivative number since i am the principal why am i on AP since there was no issiue about me during the interview. Except my wife who had a mistake corrected on her medical by the embassy itself. What should i expect next. Thanks.

Hi simon its me again. This what my case is showing now. 01ACC Administrative processing
02ACC READY
03ACC READY.
Does it mean that i am on AP as a principal? But how come my wife case os showing ready but mine is showing AP SINCE i had no problem at the interview?

Yes it is confirmation of what I had said the other day. You are on AP. The embassy have only set your status to AP because their status depends on yours. That is normal. So now you must wait for the AP to resolve.

I hope this AP is not going to take forever to resolve. Its very frustrating. They asking of no codument the interview was approved. Yet my passport is being held since 6 november. And the last updaye was 15 november. I learn sometimes the carry on with backgrown checks after the interview. Is that what they are still doing in my case. ? I need at least my certificates and birth certificate for something also important now . how do i get them. ? Is it going to affect my case when i go for them ?

Asking for documents back may delay your case further – but you can do that if you wish. Contact the embassy. Apart from that I advise you to not think about this all the time. You just have to be patient.

Thanks so much simon. Your words are more than comforting thanks for being there for some of us. Cos i think about it all the time. I guess i wont kill muself before my passport is ready hahahahahaa.
