The second VB for DV 2020 has been released, this concerning interviews in November. This VB was delayed by a couple of days – later than I have ever seen. There is no significance in that, nothing to worry about, just a little frustrating.
Region | All DV Chargeability Areas Except Those Listed Separately | |
---|---|---|
AFRICA | 5,600 | Except: Egypt 3,000 |
ASIA | 3,500 | Except: Iran 1,450 Nepal 3,100 |
EUROPE | 6,000 | |
NORTH AMERICA (BAHAMAS) | 4 | |
OCEANIA | 400 | |
SOUTH AMERICA, and the CARIBBEAN | 600 |
This is only the SECOND VB = 10 to go, so no one should be worried about the numbers…
Those that are current, and have forms processed early enough, they can expect their 2NL in about 1 to 2 weeks from now. This is the same every month. VB from the 8th to the 15th of each month, and 2NLs in the second half of the month. For the last few months there have been 2NLs sent in two main batches, some early (around the 15th to 20th) and then some in the later part of the month. I would expect the 2NLs to have all been sent by the end of this month. The end of the month really means THE END OF THE MONTH. Please don’t waste my time later this month asking about 2NLs. Please. They can be sent right up until the last day of the month.
To those new to looking at VBs, let me explain what the “except” XXX country means – and you can also read this post on how to read the visa bulletin.
Processing is spread out over the full year. You can see the progress of the two previous years in this post about basic questions. However, some countries have a high number of selectees and those selectees are concentrated in the lower case numbers. For various reasons, mainly to do with embassy capacity, KCC slow down certain countries as compared to the region. So – in Africa, any case with a case number shown as under the new number can be interviewed but for cases from Egypt, that number is lower. That isn’t a big problem, it just “slows down” those countries a little more than the rest of the region. Since selectees from those countries all have lower case numbers, this slowing down does not present any risk. It does not (at this point) mean they won’t allow all selectees an interview from those countries.
To understand why some countries get lower case numbers, read this article about the lottery draw process.

54.5k visas now instead of 50k? Did you seen that?? Any comment about nacara added to lottery 2020?
September 18, 2019 at 16:00
Yeah – that was widely assumed as the letters mentioned 55k. So seeing that they kept 350 for Nacara is not a big deal.
September 18, 2019 at 16:16
Yes, but I think that’s important information for high case numbers… Almost 55k visas available (previous years 50k) so that’s a big change, on this low number of selectees, this year is more likely going to be current.
September 18, 2019 at 16:35
Yes – that is already factored in to my predictions.

Hi brit am a winner of dv 2020 and am single bt i have a four yr old daughter. The thing is that i did not mention her in my application, now am wondering if i can include her in my ds 260.pls advice
October 3, 2019 at 15:45
No – you will be disqualified. You should stop processing your case.
September 18, 2019 at 14:15
Hi Brit,
Thanks for the update, i am just wondering at this pace we would have 10 k case numbers processed at 4 month interval since based on the previous 2 months only 5 k case numbers have been processed!?
September 18, 2019 at 15:59
Don’t base the full year on the first 2 months.
September 18, 2019 at 14:17
The cutoff of dv 2020
September 18, 2019 at 14:19
What a slow start for AF with a very high case number ( 79xxx) !!!!!! God help us. Thanks brit for your recent info.
September 18, 2019 at 14:36
Thank you , Brit , for your efforts . I think we will see the alow VB until January . Are you still with your prediction on when to be interviewed , Brit ? Or is there any change ? Thank you again
September 18, 2019 at 15:48
Obviously as we get into the year – predictions change – but this is largely as expected.
September 18, 2019 at 14:37
Hi Brit, I’m missing your input about this VB – is it going slower than you expected? faster? do you have any thoughts about the next VB?
Thanks!
September 18, 2019 at 15:47
I already published a long detailed video about this. The numbers are lower than I hoped – but that doesn’t matter. I also mentioned October to December tend to be slower. Watch the video.
September 18, 2019 at 14:38
Hi Brit,
I’m dv 2019 and attended interview today. After series of questions to me and couple we were given a pickup chit to collect our visas on the 25th September, 2019.
I want to give you special thanks and appreciation for all that you impacted on me.
God bless you sir
September 18, 2019 at 15:46
Awesome!
September 19, 2019 at 02:01
Please do share us what types of questions were asked to you and couple
September 18, 2019 at 14:44
Hi Sir!
I’m from Albania and my case number is about 56×××. Do you think I have a chance? If yes, when do you think that I will be called for an interview?
Thank you!
September 18, 2019 at 15:46
Yes you should have a chance even though your number is very high. Obviously it will be right at the end – about 10 to 12 months from now.
September 18, 2019 at 15:23
This VB is quite disappointing
September 18, 2019 at 15:46
Expectations and Reality mismatch.Hope it is for the better of the good.Am i right, sir?
September 18, 2019 at 22:15
I have no idea what you are asking.
September 18, 2019 at 17:30
Hi,
2020OC3xx
My case number has gone current in the November VB, however I want to delay my application and interview as much as possible as I want to relocate to the States as late as possible in this process.
Is there any risk in withholding my application until much later in the visa year?
Thanks
September 18, 2019 at 19:14
No risk. You should hold back your DS260 or documents. You can delay up to around May of next year (DS260 submission) and still be safe.
September 18, 2019 at 18:06
Hi, I have a EU number at around 7000, so I’m expecting to become “current” in the next VB. I’ve already submitted the DS 260, I did that in May but so far I haven’t gotten any e-mail from KCC.
1. Should I be worried?
2. Do you know when I might get the first e-mail telling me which scanned documents to send?
Thanks
September 18, 2019 at 19:18
1. No.
2. Soon probably – you can contact KCC – you might have missed their email.
September 18, 2019 at 19:23
Dear Simon, first of all I would like to thank you all the kind support you provide, you are doing a great job, be blessed for all. My wife’s case number is EU59xx. We have completed DS260s, we have also received the email requesting further documents. But because my wife is a primary school teacher and we also have our daughter in the 3rd grade and school year ends at the end of June we would like to postpone our interview date till January thus giving my wife and daughter enough time to finish the actual school year. This way in case of a successful interview we could move around the end of June.
And here comes my question: our case number already becoming current in November, WHEN should we send the other documents in order to be scheduled for January?
Thank you for your help.
Best regards, Lorand
September 18, 2019 at 19:30
During October.
September 18, 2019 at 23:21
Thanks so much Mr. BritSimon for recent updates
Do you think it’s still safe for me with the change in expectation? My CN is 2020AF000395++
September 18, 2019 at 23:43
Please don’t keep asking this same question. Nothing changed.
September 19, 2019 at 07:32
Okay, understood Sir and thanks so much for for this assistance you are giving us.
September 19, 2019 at 15:28
Hi Simon,
About additional 4000 visas (from NACARA), While there were 50000 visas available, there always were under-issued years; KCC gave 48k, 42k visas, but not exactly 50K. (probably because of time running out). So, do you think there is any meaning in opening up additional 4K visas if they won’t be able to issue them? And in this case, these additional 4k visas will not help high case numbers, right?
September 19, 2019 at 16:02
There have been years where the 50k was exceeded. There are enough visas for all this year.
September 20, 2019 at 03:17
Hi Brit,
I was selected from europe and my number is pretty high 50k. Currently I am on F1 visa and in US but mu family is not. They were rejected for F2 visas but they will have a new interview before december, I have not submitted my ds 260 yet as I may do Consular or Adjustment depending on the interview. When should submit the form and what address i should provide US or homecountry?
(As I wa selected on the selected page i have my US adress)
Thanks in advance and I appreciate your work
September 20, 2019 at 04:51
Well you first need to decide how to process.
If you were to do AOS, the process would mean adjusting status, and once approved, file an I-824 (Follow to Join). THat process is slow – and given the high number, could be a risky thing to try.
Consular processing on the other hand would be clean and simple, you would interview in your home country with your family.
So – whichever option you choose you list your actual address, but if you choose CP – you simply need to email KCC to make sure they understand that and schedule the interview in your home embassy.
You have some months before you need to submit, so you can weigh up your options.
September 20, 2019 at 07:01
Hi BritSimon,
EU35k.
What’s your prediction? I think interview in April/May?
You think this number is safe?
Regards
September 20, 2019 at 22:25
Please take a look at my prediction articles from July.
September 20, 2019 at 08:56
HELLO BRIT,
Thank you very much for ur support,I have a issue with DS – 260 submission,
I applied with my family members(husband and 3 kids).I want to submit DS 260 5 time s for all members or main applicant submission is enough. I got five confirmation pages for each member.
Now system shows applicants as “Completed” with inactive mode.
Could u please tell me the correct method?
Social media change is compulsory to update all members?
Thank you once again.
September 20, 2019 at 22:27
Each person has their own form, so yes you will have 5 confirmation pages.
I posted an article about the social media info – please read that.

September 23, 2019 at 03:40
Dear Simon,
As we know cut-off numbers depend on density of selectees in each region. Iran and Nepal are two limiting countries in Asia region. Since visa bulletins for October and November have published before any interviews happen it makes sense that cut-off number for Iran is higher than Nepal.
But few Iranians will be able to get visas due to the Travel Ban.
Is it possible cut-off number for Iran becomes higher than Nepal in the following months due to the Travel Ban?
In other words, are visa bulletins set proactively meaning that DOS takes into account number of people being issued with visas in previous months?
September 23, 2019 at 04:08
The year hasn’t even started yet. Relax,
September 24, 2019 at 23:08
My question was general. I was just wondering if DOS takes into account the number of previously issued visas for each country (in this case limiting countries) when it comes to setting visas bulletins for the following months or this is just the density of selectees which matter?
September 25, 2019 at 02:50
I have explained this in previous articles and videos. I can’t explain that here in a couple of lines.
September 23, 2019 at 16:02
Very low start, I’m EU40xxx and if we look at how they did start that means that what over 35k will not have a chance to be interviewed .
September 23, 2019 at 20:12
No it does NOT mean that.
September 24, 2019 at 06:54
hi Brit ,should we print also the 1NL notification of selection and bring to the embassy ,or just the 2Nl with appointment details ,thanks
September 25, 2019 at 02:04
Either is OK
September 25, 2019 at 05:52
How much do you think CN can achieve for Europe with your opinion. thanks for answering me
September 25, 2019 at 22:54
All of them.
September 26, 2019 at 00:45
I received the KCC new document procedure email in July 17th. I haven’t sent the required documents yet . How much time do I have to send?
I’m from South America and my case number is under 300. How long do you think is appropriate to send the documents (passport, birth certificate, etc.)?
Should I be worried?
September 26, 2019 at 04:03
1. Anytime.
2. You can decide. You can do it now or later.
3. About your indecisiveness? Probably.
September 26, 2019 at 12:18
I obtained my visa dv2019, Thanks Brit
September 26, 2019 at 14:24
Great!
September 28, 2019 at 14:59
Hello sir, Is that true sponsor, who had taken loan in US but Annual income which is essential to sponsor can bring problem at the time of visa issue or interview??..or because of loan, our visa will be in pending?
September 28, 2019 at 15:22
The loan is not considered.
September 29, 2019 at 12:43
Please pray for me so that I win DV 2021
September 29, 2019 at 13:45
Good day sir, is it legal to have multiple sponsors ? Grateful for your assistance at all times
September 29, 2019 at 15:49
It’s not “illegal” but no, you just have one sponsor that meets the requirements…
September 29, 2019 at 15:48
As I don’t believe in any God, my prayer won’t help you…
October 4, 2019 at 12:00

September 30, 2019 at 12:49
Dear BritSimon,
Thank you so much for the incredible support for us. My case number is 2020AF00044xxx as you can see this is an extremely high number and the problem is that I live in Egypt, and it’s always separated in the bulletin I mean Egypt is separated from Africa. Please help me understand why it’s separated and how that will affect my chances and if it happened and they list AF as current like the year 2019 will that also apply to Egypt ? Also, how would I know my number is selected in the bulletin? Do I follow the AF serial or Egypt has its own serial number. It is really confusing. Thanks again for help and I hope you can answer to me.
Regards,
Mina Magdy

October 7, 2019 at 16:43
Good morning I hope this is good! We left DV2020 selected by my husband, but I am worried that he is a public official in Venezuela but does not have a position set by the government but that his university career is licensed by police officers, could I say if that will be a reason for denial of the green card?
I appreciate what you can help me!
October 8, 2019 at 04:57
I don’t know.
October 7, 2019 at 17:54
Hi SIMON my I am current for DV November ,do you think 2NL for November is not yet too late ?what shall we do for now ,I think we shall have no time to collect document for interview,do they include specific documents in Letter that they need for each person ,and derivative or maybe we have to know ?

You will in December or later.
October 8, 2019 at 12:29
hello Sir Simon;
my case number is 2020AS5XXX and I have chosen European country for interview where I live. so should I follow Asian case number or European on visa bulletin?

AS
October 9, 2019 at 04:59
Hi Brit,
i already submit document and kcc was acknowledge. I have some question,
1. During wait 2nl for interview if i change address or jobs. i should change that information in ds260 or not?
2. My case DV2020 AS8XXX i predict my case get 2nl in Apr 2021. My Passport expire on Oct-2021 before interview should i make new passport? because my passport remain less than 8 month. if i decision to make new passport then i have to change information on ds260 or not?
Thanks so much.
October 9, 2019 at 05:02
1. No need.
2. Your dates are wrong – but assuming both months are in 2020, it actually isn’t that bad. You don’t need to update your passport. That is partly because your interview will be before the month you expect.
October 9, 2019 at 05:14
Thanks so much for your reply
October 9, 2019 at 20:14
Hello gentleman! My question is will you have a prediction for your part or a second study for dv 2019-2020? Thank you

October 11, 2019 at 12:49
How are you doing Sir?DV-2020 Winner
I got a question:I submitted my DS-260 days ago but it seems like i have put a different street adress of the high school in my country. Is that a problem?
October 12, 2019 at 19:58
No
October 12, 2019 at 10:26
Hi Brit I selected for the 2019-2020 dv program, my case is 49xxx will I received letter for interview secondly my date of birth was wrongly entered for example (June 24,1994) it was entered as (June 24,1995) which is not on my document like that.
October 12, 2019 at 19:33
Yes you will get an interview. Your mistake represents a small risk – but can be forgiven if there are no fraud concerns.
October 12, 2019 at 21:08
Thanks Brit for the response but is it advisable that I write KCC informing them about the error with my date of birth?
October 12, 2019 at 23:49
No you don’t have to do that as long as the DS260 is accurate.

Dear BritSimon,
Wish you good health.
Question
-The proposed “Health insurance obtain condition (Trump Proclamation)”, which to be effective from 3rd Nov 2019, ** https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/presidential-proclamation-suspension-entry-immigrants-will-financially-burden-united-states-healthcare-system/ **
Is it applicable for DV2019 & DV2020 “Visa Approved” but “Not Yet Entered USA” people also? or only for DV2020 selectees, who will be interviewed after 3rd Nov. 2019?
Thank you.
October 14, 2019 at 16:31
People being interviewed after Nov 3.
October 14, 2019 at 17:10
Thank you
October 19, 2019 at 15:36
Hi Brit,
I dont understand how to re-action with this new rules. We must have Health Insurance before interview.
Or
How many financial resource for show on.
Can you explain to easy word.
Thank you so much.
October 19, 2019 at 16:07
It is too early to know more. Wait.
October 16, 2019 at 13:37
HI Brit,
Thanks for your great efforts, really appreciated, if DS260 is completed with a passport that expire on NOV2020 the CN number is 2020AS25XXX
So let’s assume that interview can happen in the months following june, maybe july or aughust then the passport will have less than 6 month validity, my question is should i renew the passport ASAP and update the DS260 which already submitted or keep it as it is and take both passports to the interview (old + new)?
Also when do you believe that CN2020AS25XXX can be interviewed
Thanks a lot
October 17, 2019 at 03:19
Take old and new to the interview.
Summer 2020.
October 19, 2019 at 18:04
Dear, good morning? My case no is AF 2020 48xxx. When I fill the DS 260, I have answered ‘Yes’ for the question which says “Do you have a documentation to establish that you have received vaccinations in accordance with U.S. Law? Yes or No?”
Is there any problem on my answer? If yes, Shall I unlock teh DS 260 and change it?
I haven’t received an email from KCC on document submission. Is there any problem?
Thanks!

Hi Brit
embassy page instruction that is to register “Document Delivery Address”(to send me back passports after interview) before interview. but after i tried the web page the form asks to schedule interview! confusing; & which maybe not applicable in DVlottery.
Q1: Return courier address will be assigned at interview date inside embassy?
……..
“Presidential Proclamation on Healthcare” of oct 3, still showing in the dvlottery interview instruction page.
Q2: any changes on “Presidential Proclamation on Healthcare” or is it on effect from Nov 3?
thanks.
October 23, 2019 at 00:12
1. Varies by embassy – you just follow their instructions.
2. It is in effect as of Nov 3. At the moment it is not clear how it will be handled.
October 23, 2019 at 04:29
thanks.
I missed to mention location. it is US embassy Riyadh, saudi arabia.
if any reader had previouse experience or information how to assign the Return Address, for my above (Q1:how to assign Return courier address) please reply. thanks
October 27, 2019 at 20:52
