So here are the numbers for May interviews. Pretty good progress for all regions. AF moved less than last month – but overall the position is good.
Region | All DV Chargeability Areas Except Those Listed Separately | |
---|---|---|
AFRICA | 45,175 | Except: Egypt 39,000 |
ASIA | 18,450 | Except: Iran 11,550 Nepal 11,700 |
EUROPE | 30,000 | |
NORTH AMERICA (BAHAMAS) | 17 | |
OCEANIA | 2,150 | |
SOUTH AMERICA, and the CARIBBEAN | 1,875 | |
However, those of you that have read the VB will notice the following text under the numbers.
The May rank cut-off movements for all DV regions continue to be greater than might ordinarily have been expected, in order to generate applicant demand under the respective annual limits. This is because fewer DV applicants are actively pursuing final action on their cases at consular posts abroad, and the volume of USCIS adjustment cases remains low. If large numbers of applicants eventually do begin to have their cases brought to final action, rank cut-off date movements will necessarily slow or stop, and retrogression would become a possibility. At this time, it is not possible to say when such action might be required, but late summer would be the most likely time.
That is a pretty good explanation of what is happening (faster progression than would otherwise be possible) because many people have not sent in their documents in a satisfactory manner. The note warns than if people suddenly do that in large numbers the VB numbers will slow or could even “retrogress”, meaning go backwards. It is ESSENTIAL then to make certain that you have sent in your documents. And those cases that are now current can do that (since KCC have been saying they cannot check the document status until the case is current).
Those that are current, and have forms processed early enough, they can expect their 2NL in about 1 to 2 weeks from now. This is the same every month. VB from the 8th to the 15th of each month (although more recently it has been published a few days later – around the 17th/18th), and 2NLs in the second half of the month. For the last few months there have been 2NLs sent in two main batches, some early (around the 15th to 20th) and then some in the later part of the month. I would expect the 2NLs to have all been sent by the end of this month. The end of the month really means THE END OF THE MONTH. Please don’t waste my time later this month asking about 2NLs. Please. They can be sent right up until the last day of the month.
To those new to looking at VBs, let me explain what the “except” XXX country means – and you can also read this post on how to read the visa bulletin.
Processing is spread out over the full year. You can see the progress of the two previous years in this post about basic questions. However, some countries have a high number of selectees and those selectees are concentrated in the lower case numbers. For various reasons, mainly to do with embassy capacity, KCC slow down certain countries as compared to the region. So – in Africa, any case with a case number shown as under the new number can be interviewed but for cases from Egypt, that number is lower. That isn’t a big problem, it just “slows down” those countries a little more than the rest of the region. Since selectees from those countries all have lower case numbers, this slowing down does not present any risk. It does not (at this point) mean they won’t allow all selectees an interview from those countries.
To understand why some countries get lower case numbers, read this article about the lottery draw process.
March 13, 2020 at 14:55
so Brit do you have any prediction now ,will Eu go current ?
March 13, 2020 at 16:43
Are you not paying attention at all????
Even in a normal year I would not be making predictions – and this very clearly is not a normal year.
March 13, 2020 at 18:44
Hi Brit , my case is AF377XX I still waiting my 2NL , should I keep waiting or ask the KCC
March 14, 2020 at 05:24
Keep waiting.
March 13, 2020 at 14:56
I am surprised! My CN is EU34k if this coronavirus thing does not affect the overall process (like closing down the embassies) i must be scheduled for June! Fingers crossed… Thanks Simon!
March 13, 2020 at 15:08
Me and wife waiting for her passport.
Eu 346xx…
We will have it within 7 days and we will send ds260’s and all documents.
Everything ready except passport.
Hopefully we are not late Mr Simon?
You think we will have our interview?
March 13, 2020 at 16:41
Not too late.
March 13, 2020 at 15:26
God !!!!!
I am EU35 please please the next month 37k at least hahah
Oh my I pray corona virus Panic will go away either
What a stressful year !!!!!
I have a question
If visa bulletin for June be 36k for example for Europe and I am EU35k
So it means my interview will he in July correct ?
March 13, 2020 at 16:41
No. You would be in June unless your documents were not processed. I know you have a “theory” about one month delay – but that isn’t correct.
Of course this will depend on whether embassies remain open, whether KCC can continue working and so on.
March 13, 2020 at 16:48
Thank you !
So shall I re send me documents , just in case ?
I sent in ocotber ..
So what if I’ll resend them cause my number is pretty close for being current
I’ve heard my # to be scheduled for an interview KCC has to process my documents before April 3?
Is that correct ?
If no pls say
Oh I do hope they will work
I have extra 2-3 months in the pocket even if the interview will delayed
I can’t even imagine peoppe with 40k numbers or even higher
Is so stressful this year /(
March 14, 2020 at 05:07
You seem to love listening to nonsense. Please stop that.
March 14, 2020 at 00:32
Please sir,
Kindly reply me. I know you try your best to explain things to us but sometimes it’s hard to understand. MY number is AF375****, I sent the DS260, already received request for document and congratulations your documents are correct. My question now is my case current for the month of May? Please just assist me.
Thank you
March 14, 2020 at 05:13
The question is WHEN did you you get confirmation that your documents were complete.
March 14, 2020 at 08:50
Thank you sir for the reply.
I received the said email early February precisely on the 7th and it read as follows “Congratulations! Our records indicate that you have submitted all required documentation to the Kentucky Consular Center and are ready to be scheduled for an interview when your case number becomes current. Interviews are scheduled numerically based on case numbers that have completed processing”. Sir, I am just trying not to miss this opportunity that is why i am asking questions. Thank you for your help to me and others who can live the American Dream only through the DV Lottery. Thank you
March 14, 2020 at 14:59
Yes – May, assuming your embassy is accepting appointments.
March 13, 2020 at 15:39
Hi Brrit! My Cn is EU 311** Should I have the interview in June ?
March 13, 2020 at 16:38
Maybe.
March 13, 2020 at 15:51
Hi Brit, thank you for all the info providing for all of us. I have a question since I was stalling with filling the ds260 and all the process afterwards cause my case is 2020eu45xxx..is it late now to do all the work? I’d like to proceed with all of that I just wasn’t sure if my number would be scheduled for interview, and that’s pretty much the main reason why I haven’t done this earlier. Thank you in advance, and god bless you.
March 13, 2020 at 16:36
It is not too late at this point.
I have told you several times what you would need to do.

March 13, 2020 at 17:29
I apologize, but this is my second time writing you, respectfully! And thank you so much for your prompt answer. I understand what I need to do, I was just curious whether or not I’m late. 🙂 I’m aware of the fact I waited a bit too long. 🙂
Best regards!
March 13, 2020 at 17:32
Btw, I’m not that person from above..my number is 45xxx. 🙂
March 13, 2020 at 18:48
OK – well, now you know. Not too late.
March 13, 2020 at 16:01
Hi Brit,
Sorry if my question could be stupid for you. It’s not my intention waste your time. But I need to know if I Have well understand.
I make an example with my situation.
I have 27k in Eu , I received the email with processed documents today, an hour before the release of vb.
So, if now, someone with Cn lower than mine, for example 23k or 25k, send their documents now or in the next days , they will be processed in this month like me and they will have an interview before me?
Because I have always though that it’s important send documents in time to make sure to have an interview when you case will be current and KCC have interview in order of processed documents.
But now it look like if something changed, is it true?
In less word, if someone with 23k send documents now they will have an interview before me , even if I sent documents months before of him/her?
True? Thank u sir ??
March 13, 2020 at 16:33
During a month of interviews, the order of interviews is not by case number order. The VB that was just published made your case number current – BUT you may not get an interview until June if your documents were only completed in the last few days. Nothing changed – that is how it works.
March 13, 2020 at 16:14
Hello Sir!
Is there any chance for EU549xx?
Thank you!
March 13, 2020 at 16:30
All you can do is wait and see.
March 13, 2020 at 16:18
Hello Brit,
Dp you mean that may VB interviews will take place in April? Please clarify. Thank you
March 13, 2020 at 16:29
No. Just a typo – now corrected.
March 13, 2020 at 16:55
Hi Brit, should we be worried about that paragraph?
Is it saying that in the late summer they will slow down or move backwards? So for the next VB will be ok.
I am worried the most for Europe,

March 13, 2020 at 17:01
Hey there, just trying to understand it more clearly. Will they make the “retrogress” in case of a low response from higher cases? Could it happen if lower cases make higher response later?
March 14, 2020 at 05:06

March 13, 2020 at 17:55
Hi, Brit, we really can’t stop saying thank you with all your time to see us through this whole program.
This VB for May is really frightening especially AF region. Why I say so is because of the statement attached with the VB.
If I understand well, we have just two more chances for VB, June and July since late summer is August.
1 . Please what do you think will happened those high case numbers that already had their documents and ds260 submitted 5 months ago. Will they be ignored
2. What do think of CN AF59+++
Thanks in advance
March 13, 2020 at 18:47
Look. Now more than ever, people should understand how predictions are hard to do. People should understand the “wait and see” comment. There is no point in getting worried or upset. You simply have to remain cam and wait and see what happens.
March 13, 2020 at 17:56
Hi brit
what can you say about the downturn in the africa region this month ?
And what do you think for the next few months ?
March 13, 2020 at 18:45
AF had a couple of good months and now has some slowdown to catch up with backlog cases. Predictable (predicted, in fact). For the next few months – wait and see.
March 13, 2020 at 18:57
Hello Brit,
I’m from Nepal, My case is AS-82XX. I submitted DS-260 on 1st week of March. I got “Documents Recieved” mail from KCC next day. When shall I receive 2NL? (just prediction; not wasting your time 🙂 )
Am I running late?
How does CASE becomes current? By Tallying with Visa Bulletin?
DIVERSITY IMMIGRANT (DV) CATEGORY FOR THE MONTH OF
March is 8,800
APRIL is 10,500
May is 11,700
Thanks for your wonderful support.
March 14, 2020 at 05:24
“just prediction; not wasting your time”. Predictions are a waste of my time.
You submitted documents late. So now you will wait. Be patient.
March 13, 2020 at 19:46
Hi Brit , my case is AF28.5k my Ds 260 was sent in October n docs on 15 of Feb , I get emails saying my ds260 n all docs was processed and wait for your case to be current to be scheduled for interview. My case number was current in vb Feb , intill now i don’t get 2nl

AF50XXX
PLEASE
March 13, 2020 at 21:04
Hi, if there would be more slowdowns in Africa that would mean that they won’t reach 60k? I’m very stressed and depressed, the big Cn in one side and Coronavirus in the other side.

Hi Brit,
Thank again for all your help.

I was pretty confident with the last VB but with this one I’m not really sure.
what’s your thoughts?
Thanks again.
March 14, 2020 at 05:11
With everything happening, the best answer is wait and see.
March 14, 2020 at 02:55
Hey brit….
How can I check my case status to know my interview date?
March 14, 2020 at 05:10
When you get scheduled you check the ESC page where you saw the selected letter.

March 14, 2020 at 04:41
Hello sir
I am a dv2020 winnet. We had interview days ago and the CO congratulated us on the visas approval. But Yesterday, i had a call from the American embassy Addis Ababa requesting us for further interview. Do think it is bad?
March 14, 2020 at 05:08
I don’t know.
March 14, 2020 at 06:33
Namaste simion at first I wanna thanks for your kind help.I am from Nepal my case no is As 128**. I Think next Visa bulletin my case will be current .Now I got court married .I sent my document before 3 month ago.But now I want unlock again for the wife because I want take my wife at same time with me for this what should I need to do .And I am planning unlock this week .what documents are need to be send for that kcc of my wife. Is it ok if I send court marriage certificate birth certificate police report and passport.what documents will be good for the kcc to unlock my ds 260 for the including wife..
March 14, 2020 at 14:55
To unlock they usually just want the marriage cert. Then you have to send a complete set of documents for both of you again. Do that ASAP!
March 14, 2020 at 15:37
Court marriage certificate is ok and again I need send the all my documents
March 14, 2020 at 16:55
Re-read my answer.
March 14, 2020 at 06:58
All I am reading in their underling statement is .”people may not make it to the embassies so let’s pump the VB buletin and see who can get there”
What documents are you talking about? We have scheduled interviews with probably no open embassies
Or i am missing something?
March 14, 2020 at 14:56
I don’t understand your point or question at all.
Some Embassies are closing now by the way – and cancelling appointments.
March 14, 2020 at 07:21
Dear Simon
My CN is AS17K and in 16 Jan I received the bellow congratulation message from KCC that my all documents are received completely. (Congratulations! Our records indicate that you have submitted all required documentation to the Kentucky Consular Center and are ready to be scheduled for an interview when your case number becomes current. Interviews are scheduled numerically based on case numbers that have completed processing.)
Would I expect my interview/2NL for May?
March 14, 2020 at 14:57
Yes
March 14, 2020 at 09:12
If I’m eu 345xx
And I send ds260 and docs on March, 20.
If in June bulletin my CN is current, will I be scheduled for June??
March 14, 2020 at 15:00
Probably not. They need time to complete processing, so perhaps July.
March 14, 2020 at 09:29
Hi Brit The sponsor I’m trying to say is looking for another sponsor who is GC Holder. So now, only the new sponsor’s documentation for my Interview is taken? And the other thing would be that my GC Holder sponsor’s bank balance is a bit low. Bank balance does have some effect on what you have to tell the gc holder sponsor’s income is very good. What do you say
March 14, 2020 at 15:01
I don’t understand the first half of what you are trying to ask.
The income on the I-134 is more important than bank balance.
March 14, 2020 at 09:34
Hello brit
The text under the bulletin,,is it a routine thing they write every year?? Or this year is different?
March 14, 2020 at 15:03
This is the first time I have ever seen it. It’s about the new documents procedure, and that new procedure was only introduced 18 months ago.
March 14, 2020 at 10:05
Today embassies in schengen countries texted people that their appointments are canceled. Will it cause backlogs and the slow down of general process?
March 14, 2020 at 15:04
Yes of course.
March 14, 2020 at 12:32
Hi brits
So in that case brits, when i will be expecting my 2nl june or jully? My cn is 2020AF00043xxx and i sent my ds 260 on the 15th december 2019 and my documents in this month
March 14, 2020 at 15:05
Wait and see.
March 14, 2020 at 16:17
Why do you think they haven’t made AS and OC current already? it wouldn’t be the first time a region becomes current in May…
March 14, 2020 at 16:53
I don’t think it’s important. Why are you worried about it?
March 14, 2020 at 17:26
I’ll tell you why – because my case number is high (AS29xxx) and KCC can only see my docs when the region would be current, so I need an extra month in advance just in case something is wrong with my docs… and I really don’t want it to be in the last VB so there is no room for error…
March 14, 2020 at 17:32
From the very beginning you knew you were at a high number range – and that your interview would be late. Nothing has changed.
It’s ***MARCH****.
Be patient.
March 14, 2020 at 18:44
It HAS changed as now KCC can’t confirm anything about your docs until you’re current so I can’t just check with them at my own will… I have to be current first. And if I’m only current in July’s VB, that might be too late.
March 14, 2020 at 18:52
Again. Its March. Calm down!
March 14, 2020 at 18:54
I’m trying to, but this year is such a rollercoaster with the changes at KCC, the coronavirus, the new public charge thing and more and more so it’s even more nervewrecking than usual. But I guess I can’t control everything so I’ll just have to wait…
March 14, 2020 at 19:16
Exactly. You cannot worry this better. Just relax. There are FOUR MORE VBs.
March 14, 2020 at 19:44
Hi Brit,
Thanks for the video. Very insightful stuff. Asia looks good as it progressing well, I think.
Questions ,
1 ) are documents processing confirmation emails sent in two or three batches like the 2NLs or is it a daily thing that they do through out the month ?
2) is it evident to you that sending documents in English speeds up the processing time for KCC ?
3) have all the us embassies suspended their counselor services or just inEurope ?. The comments I am reading appears to be that cancellations are happening only in Europe. Any other regions ?
March 14, 2020 at 20:59
1. I don’t know.
2. No evidence of that, no.
3. Embassy by embassy decision.
March 14, 2020 at 21:14
Hi Simon how are you to day, my brother he win Dv2020.the case number 2020AF68…please can you tell me he have the chance to interview, do you know the estimation day please I waiting you answer. Thanks
March 14, 2020 at 21:31
It’s difficult to say. The best thing to do is wait and see.
March 15, 2020 at 04:31
Hi Brit,
I am sorry if you have already answered this question. I am from Nepal (AS1100) and my number became current for May and I just submitted the DS-260 yesterday. I wanted to wait because my number was really high and now I am a little worried about the submission. On a normal circumstances, it takes KCC up to 3 weeks to process DS-260 and ask for required documents. I have all documents ready to be submitted. I know at this point every thing is very uncertain but do you think by submitting DS-260 this late I am risking it?
March 15, 2020 at 05:27
There is time. Stop procrastinating and get in your DS260 and documents.
March 15, 2020 at 05:32
Thank you for your reply! I submitted the application yesterday and waiting for KCC email to submit required documents.
March 15, 2020 at 16:06
No need to wait for the email. Submit the documents.
March 15, 2020 at 04:41
Dear Brit,
Due to the exceptional situation going on with Covid-19 virus, there is any chances they will extend the deadline from 30 Sept to one month at least.
Considering also the minimum numbers of visa issued.
Thank you for your feedback,
Regards
Paolo
March 15, 2020 at 05:27
No. The end date is a matter of law. There is no requirement to issue all the visas, nor is there a minimum number they must issue.
March 15, 2020 at 05:55
Hi Brit,
My case number is 2020AS20XXX so I think that we may be scheduled for June / July interviews.
The issue is that my kids passports are expiring in October 2020 which means that when we go for the interview, the kids passport validity will be less than 6 months. So, I want to renew their passports before going for the interview but the problem is that the new passports will have a different passport number.
Please advise what should I do?
Thanks for your cooperation.
March 15, 2020 at 16:06
Renew the passports, take old and new to the interview.
March 15, 2020 at 11:53
Dear brit, ሰላም(hi)
i just got current, am from africa with case number 43###. didnt recieve anything sofar. submitted docs in December. Im thinking the reason can be “weekends”. Im i safe??
March 15, 2020 at 16:11
Weekends?? Did you not read the article above?
Well you don’t mention if you received an email saying your documents are processed. You might not be scheduled this month (for May), so you could contact KCC and ask them if they are satisfied with your documents.
March 15, 2020 at 17:33
Yeah, by weekends i ment ‘vb is released on Friday and they don’t work on the weekends. So i can’t expect congrats mail’ but probably 2mrw n after. So i belive i should stay patient for extta few days. Is that a good idea dear?
March 15, 2020 at 18:47
You really should read the article rather than making up your own narrative.
March 15, 2020 at 12:48
Hi Mr. Britsimon
greetings sir hope u r doin gr8
i am dv 2020 winner with the case number of AF25XXX
completed Ds260 process as well as document submittion on February and received congratulation Notification on March 2
so can i expect the 2NL this month for may interview
thanks for your endless and unconditional help.
March 15, 2020 at 16:12
Most likely, yes.
March 15, 2020 at 13:00
My name is Mohamed from Egypt, I won immigration to America in 2014 and I took all the steps until I got to the interview in the month of 7 and took approval of the visa and after seventy days they sent me the passports without the visa and when I sent them an email to the American embassy in Egypt they answered that I entered administrative procedures and did not finish before the end of the program Please note that the Consul gave me the visa approval sheet, Case No. 2014 Af30825, and my name is Mohamed Fathi Hamid Muhammad. I want help in obtaining my visa right.
March 15, 2020 at 16:13
You have no right to the visa/Green Card. Your chance was lost. There is no way you can get any benefit from the DV2014 win.
March 15, 2020 at 13:26
hi brit, AF35000, I send an email to KCC for information (if they received my documents) on my status because I submitted my documents on 02/13/2020 to [email protected] and my ds 260 in 09/2019, I had the following answer:
Thank you for your inquiry.
In order to continue processing your case, all documents should be submitted as attachments to your email to ensure they are properly received. We ask that you use the following method to name and attach your files:
• Your DV case number;
• The full name of the applicant whose document you scanned; and
• The document name or form number.
Then I sent my documents again to the address: kccdv @ state.gov, I received the following response:
Thank you for your inquiry.
You and each family member immigrating with you to the United States should collect the civil documents that are required to support your visa application.
Passport Biographic Page: You and each family member immigrating with you must submit a photocopy of the biographic data page of a currently valid passport. The biographic data page is the page with your photograph, name, date, and place of birth.
Birth Certificate: You and each family member immigrating with you must submit a scan of an original birth certificate or certified copy.

1. I don’t know. Nothing about that email helps us know.
2. You should ask them if they are satisfied with your documents.

What region?????
March 15, 2020 at 17:15
OK EU.
It’s really impossible to predict what will happen over the coming months. There is simply too much going on regarding the virus and we have no idea whether the numbers that just went current are being scheduled. Embassies are limiting activity, cancelling interviews and so on.
So – no prediction is possible.

Thank you so much Mr Britt.
Our embassy
In support of the Government of Albania’s efforts to prevent further spread of COVID-19 by limiting public gatherings and increasing social spacing, the U.S. Embassy is cancelling all scheduled Non-Immigrant Visa (NIV) interviews through April 3, 2020. During this period, the Embassy will process emergency NIV appointments only. Immigrant visa processing and American citizen services will continue uninterrupted.
Consistent with the Government of Albania’s efforts to reduce the spread of COVID-19, the U.S. Embassy has decided to either postpone or cancel upcoming public events and gatherings through April 3, 2020.

Probably not.
March 15, 2020 at 17:05
Europe sorry.
March 15, 2020 at 21:09
Hi Brit, I’m EU46XXX and seriously considering not going to the US at this point.
Do you think not going to the interview or not going on with the process right now will have a negative impact on future immigrant visa applications?
I already sent my DS-260 and documents.
Thank you.
March 15, 2020 at 21:11
When you sent the DS260 that was a declaration of immigrant intent. So – it could come up as a factor in a future NON immigrant visa applications. It would not really affect any future IMMIGRANT applications.

Dear Brit,
I’m EU27xxx (now current), I send all my documents on november 2019 but I received the confirmation E-mail from KCC the 13th of this month.
Do you think that my interview will be scheduled in May or June?
Thanks,
March 16, 2020 at 16:02
June probably.
March 16, 2020 at 08:36
Hello mr Brit, hope you are doing pretty good. I have scanned and sent my documents to kcc about 3 times on 3 different occasions just to be sure they are satisfied with my documents. The last time sent I had the following reply:
Thank you for your inquiry.
After sending documents to [email protected], you will receive an automatic reply to your email. If there are no attachments, the auto reply explains there are no documents attached to the email. If there are attachments, the auto reply explains we received your email and are currently processing your documents. Please allow time for processing of your documents. Documents are processed in numerical order, based on lottery rank number. Once KCC has processed your documents, we will let you know if anything is missing or if we have received everything needed.
1) I wish to ask if I should send my documents again early next month?
2) and with my case number, will I go current next month?
3) someone told me I should be praying that the VB should not show current next month blc high case numbers might not be programmed. Is it true?
March 16, 2020 at 16:05
1. 3 times should be enough, so no.
2. I don’t know (and you did not give me your case number).
3. That sounds very confused.
March 16, 2020 at 21:23
Hi Mr Brit, sorry I asked some questions without my case number
My case number is 2020Af484**
1) will I go current next month?
March 16, 2020 at 23:33
I don’t know.
March 17, 2020 at 10:44
Mr. Simon, i have the same problem but i have only sent the docs once on oct.28th but didn’t get any confirmation that the docs are complete other than the auto reply saying they have received the attachments and would get back to me in 3 to 6 weeks. So i sent a couple of emails to KCC asking if the docs i sent were complete, one in december and one just last week, and both times their responses were the same. Here is part of the reply they sent me,
“Thank you for your inquiry.
Once KCC has processed your documents, we will let you know if anything is missing or if we have received everything needed.”
So should i send the docs again or should i just wait until my CN becomes current? My CN is AF48***.
Thank you!

I suggest you resend you documents, being very careful to follow all the instructions.
