The “September” visa bulletin has been published – so this is the first bulletin for DV2017. It concerns the case numbers eligible for October interviews.
For those that are current, and have forms processed early enough, they can expect their 2NL in about 2 (maybe 3) weeks from now. I know I am going to get a lot of people who will ask me this exact question β so let me say that again. 2NLs forΒ October interviews will be sent in about two or three weeks time.
It is possible that some people will be current for October interviews, but will not be scheduled in October because they submitted late, or there is a processing backlog that causes a delay. This has happened in the last 2 years, and although I am guessing the effect will be reduced this year (because of lower selectee numbers), it does mean that cases submitted in June onwards may not get their 2NLs. I will only know for sure what the backlog effect is once I start hearing from those that get scheduled, so – I will post when 2NLs start going out and survey those cases to estimate the backlog. Given these numbers are slightly lower than previous years, that re-enforces my assumption that backlog is there, but not quite as bad as previous years.
To those new to looking at VBs, let me explain what the “except” XXX country means (for Nepal, Egypt andΒ Ethiopia).
Processing is spread out over the full year.Β You can see the progress of the two previous yearsΒ in this post about basic questions. Β However, some countries have a high number of selectees and those selectees are concentrated in the lower case numbers. For various reasons, mainlyΒ to do with embassy capacity, KCC slow down certain countries as compared to the region. So – in Africa, any case with a case number of 8000 can be interviewed but for cases from Egypt or Ethiopia, that number is low (6000). That isn’t a big problem, it just “slows down” those countries a little more than the rest of the region. Since selectees from those countries all have lower case numbers, this slowing down does not present any risk. It does not (at this point) mean they won’t allow all selectees an interview from those countries. In fact, in DV2017, I think all regions and countries will go current (assuming no further draw).
To understand why some countries get lower case numbers, read this article about the lottery draw process.
Read this link if you are unsure how to read the visa bulletin.
AFRICAΒ Β β 8000
Except:
Egypt – 6000
Ethiopia – 6000
ASIA βΒ 2100
Except:
Nepal – 1900
EUROPEΒ βΒ 8500
OCEANIA β 300
SOUTH AMERICA, and the CARIBBEAN β 400

I have a simple question. this year they selected 13499 from Asia. Does it mean 13499 people or 13499 case number which each case number can include more than a person?
August 9, 2016 at 02:19
It includes derivatives.
August 9, 2016 at 01:43

My case is AF00001XXX and I filled out the DS260 form on May 19. On June 18 i unlock to change the travel document and put the new passport. I resubmitted on June 21

August 9, 2016 at 02:18
Probably not.
August 9, 2016 at 01:58
sir are we going to get mails or is this the confirmation ?
August 9, 2016 at 02:17
The article above explains that 2NLs will be sent out… that is the interview notification.
August 9, 2016 at 04:44
Hi Brit,
i just got confused as you have mentioned for Nepal 1900 is it the case number or the total number will selected from Nepal.
August 9, 2016 at 05:32
it is the case no. It means that case no. upto 1900 will get 2NL for October interview.

Hi Brit,
You know a lot about visa bulletin and how it can be predicted so I was wondering how do you see Europe case numbers “evolve” in coming months ?
Now that Europe’s number is 8500 and my case number is 123XX, I was hoping our interview would have been in November but if I’m right it will be in December. I’m curious to find out what you think ? π
I also have been trying to find “winners” from Europe and specially from Finland to share information about interviews, how their cases have gone etc…but can’t find anyone π Do you know any forums where Europe winner get together ?
Thanx a lot again !
August 9, 2016 at 12:10
Hi, I’m dv2017 winner from Europe (Ukraine) and my case number is close to yours EU 120**. I submitted my and my husband’s ds-260 forms on the 21st of May and our daughter’s on the 28th of May. I’m also very interested in the dates of our interview, when would it be?
August 9, 2016 at 14:59
For the pace, check the progression charts in this post https://britsimonsays.com/dv2017-basic-questions/.
I have been able to predict visa bulletins very accurately in the past when I had access to the CEAC data, but I no longer have that access, so it is simply a matter of guessing. The previous years charts are a reasonable guide for that guess.
There are only 51 selectees from Finland – about 30 cases. So – you won’t find them easily. Check out my post on interview experience stories – there are many accounts from embassies around the world.
August 10, 2016 at 14:43
Hi !!
I am from France, CN 7XXX for DV 2017. I also tried to find “winners” from my country or even from Europe, without success until now. If you wanna talk about it or share experiences, I would be glad to !
August 10, 2016 at 16:33
This forum has EU threads.

Hmmmmm…. just saw the message which said this firum is for EU threads. Well….I am in the catibbean and I have benefited from all the questions and comments and have had my questions answered.
I know that people have different experiences in different locations however we can just be prepared and based on exoeriences of other we can learn.
August 10, 2016 at 17:21
I think you misunderstand. I was directing the other poster to a forum which has threads specifically for EU – AS WELL AS many other regions or interests. Everyone is very welcome to gather information from wherever they find it.

Mr simon I can’t check my status at https://ceac.state.gov/ (I’m a 2017 winner) is that OK???
August 9, 2016 at 14:52

August 9, 2016 at 11:56
Hi Brit,
i am totally worried from the above mentioned sentence that is βThis has happened in the last 2 years, and although I am guessing the effect will be reduced this year (because of lower selectee numbers), it does mean that cases submitted in June onwards may not get their 2NLs β.
I am worried its because i had resubmitted ds260 on june 2nd after unlocking ds260 which earlier was sent on 25th May. Is that mean ds260 submitted on june will never recieve second letter ? I had become current though. My case number is 2017AS15**β¦.please please reply ..thanks
August 9, 2016 at 14:45
I CLEARLY state above there is no problem!! It might just be later – that is all!!!
August 9, 2016 at 13:31
Cant wait for september VB, ill prob be in there…thanks beforehand simon π
August 9, 2016 at 15:53

August 9, 2016 at 17:29
Hello Mr. Simon
I have an interview this month end and i am a bit worried. I have a derivative who would not be there the day of the interview, I would like to know if his absence would not risk my case? Thanks
August 9, 2016 at 20:51
It should not risk your case unless it raises suspicion of fraud.
August 9, 2016 at 22:46
Hi brit , am a dv2017 winner , if i have my interview on october 2016 and i will win a visa , after i recived my passaport with visa can i go to usa next day , thank you

August 10, 2016 at 03:45
Read the links in the article above.
August 10, 2016 at 05:16
Can you provide me just the estimate month please?
August 10, 2016 at 06:44
Hi, firstly thanks for providing timely and accurate information, gladly appreciate your effort. Please clarify this, I have a high case number AF38***, but there are less than 100 winner from my country, Does it mean that by 2nl will be sooner than usual? I need this information as i have to get police report from 3 countries ( Angola, Malaysia, Canada), I’m worried as i might not get enough time to get the reports.
August 10, 2016 at 13:52
Your country has no effect on the process. You will wait until that number is current for the region.
August 10, 2016 at 09:01
If we get notification for 2nl that means 100% we gonna get 2nl or they will choose again
August 10, 2016 at 13:49
If you have submitted your DS260 and your number is current, you will get an interview.
August 10, 2016 at 10:03
Hello Mr. Brit.
my sponsor’s address is different on form ds-260(old address) and affidavit form-134(current address),is there a problem?can’t I tell to the interviewer on the interview day the new address which is found on the affidavit form
Thanks!
August 10, 2016 at 13:43
Discuss with the CO on interview day.
August 10, 2016 at 13:33
Brit sir i have included my wife and my elder son in ds 260 form but i have checked on they will be travelling later but recently i had another son so do i have to include him or not in ds 260 as i will later on after few years i am going to sponsor them due to my personel reason.
August 10, 2016 at 13:41
You must list all children in your own DS260, but if you don’t want a visa for them now you don’t have to create a DS260 for them.
August 10, 2016 at 17:05
I am DV2017 selectee. My case number 2017AFXXX7XXX. My baby will arrive on last week of September. What would you suggest I do ? Shall I modify DS260 or inform the local consular through telephone I am presenting myself for the interview with a baby after my 2NL? ( not to delay my interview )
August 10, 2016 at 17:19
You would find the process simpler if you delay the interview! As it is, you may have left it too late to delay the interview if you submitted your DS260 early.
If you get an October interview you will arrive with a newborn baby. You will need a medical and passport for the baby – which of course you can’t get until the baby is born. So, a delay is inevitable, but you have made it more difficult.
The right solutiows to have unlocked your DS260, waited until the birth and resubmitted including the baby on your DS260 and creating a DS260 for the child.
As it is, you have to do what you can by talking with the embassy nearer your interview date.
August 10, 2016 at 17:24
Ok thanks
August 10, 2016 at 17:27
hi briti, above you said “If you have submitted your DS260 and your number is current, you will get an interview.” to aruna… what do you mean by current number?
August 10, 2016 at 18:17
You would understand if you had read the links I asked you to read. If you want to understand the process you need to put in some effort, rather than asking me basic questions that I have explained in links I have asked you to read. Take some responsibility for your own case!
August 10, 2016 at 23:57
Hi Brit, Thanks for your helpful website I am 2017 selectee My case no is current (AS1XXX) for Oct and I sent ds-260 form on jun 10th but according to your published builtin does that means I might not get 2nl and interview in October ?
August 11, 2016 at 01:45
You might, you might not. We have to wait and see….
August 11, 2016 at 06:07
Sir
Previous year(2016) cut off ranks was 2800 for october visa bulletin (for Nepal 2400) and it increased slowly in following year.
In case of Nepal, this year (2017) cut off ranks is 1900 for october visa bulletin. Sir Does this make High case no: to be risky or in the following last month all case number will be current?
Please sir what are your assumptions regarding the visa bulletin for this year?
August 11, 2016 at 06:20
No, it does not make it risky. My assumption is that there will be enough visas to get every region current.
August 11, 2016 at 06:46
Hello Mr. Brit,
I have the following question. I have submitted DS260 form and have given address of my in laws who are living in California and i will be traveling to California if the visa is issued but since my in laws are not able to provide affidavit so I will be having affidavit support from my friend living in Washington DC. Please let me know if this is a problem at all?
August 11, 2016 at 06:50
No problem.
August 11, 2016 at 11:55
Thanks for your quick reply.

Hello Sir I have discovered an error in my visa dated passport to the Consulate for the patch want to investigate all passports. Is there a problem?
August 11, 2016 at 17:18
Say what?…..
August 11, 2016 at 18:34
The problem is I don’t know what you are asking….
August 11, 2016 at 20:35
In response to this topic may I ask a question.
First of all there are certain schools that did not distribute diplomas after high school in the early years but the students went on to 6th form which is like grde 12 in the states. The students sat o level subjects and GCE …also A level subjects affording them the opportunity to move on to university……my questiin is…what can one show as a high school graduate?
Will a university diploma and transcrips be approprite?
Just asking. ….
August 11, 2016 at 21:07
The education standard varies by country. The embassies sometimes have the requirements on their website. But if not, you can take it to be the educational level needed to enter a University for a degree course with no further study or exams. In the UK for instance, that means 3 A levels. Some other embassies seem to accept O levels, so it varies as I said.
August 11, 2016 at 21:38
Thanks.
My sister won the dv lottery in 2012. She only produced her high diploma . She has had 15 yers work experience but I gues the diploma was enough. Her husband is a teacher and has high school diploma also but was not the selectee.
When they went to embassy they were told that they are there for formality sake because they already won the lottery and the visa is allocated to them it was that easy. By the way did I mention I live in the caribbean rigeon.
August 11, 2016 at 23:37
hi simon
i have a question in the bulleting says in SA in October will be 400 interviews, that means that in november is up to 800 i am SA2017000000900
August 12, 2016 at 02:35
No it does not mean that – the increase in the 2nd month might be less or more than the 400 from the first month….
August 12, 2016 at 02:36

August 13, 2016 at 11:49
Hi Simon…. we went for our interview on 4th August 2016. I underwent further medical tests and the results will be out on 1st Sept. The embassy didn’t take my fingerprints and I didn’t pay my visa fees though I left my passport photos, copy of B.C. and certificate of good conduct. Does this mean I’ll have to go back to the embassy for fingerprints and payment of visa fee once my medical results are released?BTW my wife and kids were issued with visas. Am from Kenya. Thanks in advance.
August 13, 2016 at 13:40
I suppose so – it’s obviously an unusual situation, so I can’t say what would “usually” happen…

Hi Kiptaiyat am from Kenya too

August 14, 2016 at 01:58
Sir ,
Do we need to change the sponsor’s address which we previously submitted ? Actually in my case my sponsor was living some where in IRVING now he has shifted to GRAND PRAIRE…do i need to update ? If such when and i should i do this ?
Do we need a welcome letter from the sponsor as well ?
Thanks in advance
Google Of DV
Brit
August 14, 2016 at 03:48
You don’t need to update the address UNLESS that is where you will be staying. The welcome letter is rare – only used by a few embassies. Nepal IS once of those.
August 14, 2016 at 03:54
Hey Brit
How much do you know about the embassy in Barbados? I have not heard of anyone being refused a visa there for the DV lottery. In fact they only confirm the information to ensure that things are in order and issue thr visa.
Why do think they are so strict in the other areas around the globe?
I know that has nothing to do with the actual visa or waiting process but it is jist a thought
August 14, 2016 at 05:27
That embassy holds a TINY number of DV interviews – so you cannot infer anything from the lack of case info you have heard.
August 17, 2016 at 01:49
No sir i will be staying with them in their new place .Now should i change ?
August 17, 2016 at 04:31
Yes.
August 14, 2016 at 08:18
Sponsor welcome letter need for nepal? For dv interview? I m little confused there is no option in dv checklist in embassy site ? What document need for nepal please help/tell me.
August 14, 2016 at 14:59
Many Nepalese report providing or being asked for a welcome letter from the sponsor.
August 15, 2016 at 03:30
How can we get this welcome letter Brit??
Where should we submit welcome letter?
Please Brit make clear about it.
Thanks for your such informative and helping blog.
August 15, 2016 at 13:24
You will need to ask others from Nepal – or use your common sense.
August 14, 2016 at 14:49
Hello Mr BritSimon
We won DV2017 (EUR00022xxx) and we live in the Indian Ocean (but we’re from France). Our Island doesn’t handle interviews so we plan to have it in Paris. As we shouldn’t be denied and we’re a family of 4, we plan to leave the island before the interview, be interviewed in Paris then move to the US.
I’ve asked the following questions to KCCDV but they didn’t answer well. Hope you can hep :
– Usually, how long before the interview we receive the letter? Is it still a postal mail or is it an email now?
– If we can’t make it on the date they propose (as we have to resigne from our jobs, handle the moving and make kids quit school and pass medical exams in Paris), is it easy to have a new date?
– Finally, regarding all the documents that have to be prepared and shown during the interview, is it a problem if they’re from sept.16, if the interview is in April17 (in exemple)? As it will be complicated to gather some of them quickly we could have all the papers ready in Q3 2016 but I’m afraid that once we’ll attend the interview, they’ll say that documents are too old.
Thanks for your help and for helping people on your blog.
Frederic
August 14, 2016 at 15:05
1. 6 – 8 weeks. Email
2. No, not easy and somewhat risky. Make the appointment.
3. Get police reports nearer the interview (less than 6 months old). Financial statements should be very recent. Other documents are OK to be old.
FYI, regardless of the embassy you “choose” on the DS260, KCC usually schedules the embassy that makes sense based on the address. Now, I’m not sure whether they will be able to figure it out if you list an Island address, so they may use your choice. I would email KCC explaining the reason for the choice of Paris. By the way, the medical must be performed in Paris ahead of the interview – so arrive there in good time.
August 14, 2016 at 15:10
Thanks a lot for your prompt answer.
Noted for all your answers. The Police report is the longest to have here (I have to wait 2 months). So I’ll ask for it during Q4 2016.
Regarding the embassy, I was proposed Johannesburg (South Africa) but was free to select any other embassy on a list (I think it was all embassies that hosts interviews). So I picked up Paris on the list, without having to explain (there was no option to explain).
Thanks again.
August 14, 2016 at 15:40
Yes I understand the list on the DS260 allows a free choice – BUT they normally disregard what you have picked and choose a local one. My point is that you will need to EMAIL them to explain – otherwise the choice might be ignored.
August 15, 2016 at 06:25
Dear Simon,
I have asked you about the interview location before.
Like the gentleman above, I also chose my interview location to “Tokyo, Japan” where I am working currently.
When I filled eDV I filled my permanent address as “Rangoon, Burma”, so it was suggested as interview location. But after consulting with you, you suggested me that I can choose. So I chose “Tokyo, Japan”.
However, according to your comment above, my interview would be arranged in “Rangoon, Burma”, Since I didn’t emailed them and explain..(my request will be ignored)
1) Did I get it correctly?
2) I guess I still have time to request them since my number is AS 27xx, Am I right?
Thank you for your time.

August 15, 2016 at 13:19
1. Yes
2. You might – send an email.

Helloo Brit
1) do u think cases ranging from 40,000 can reciev 2nl between now to january 2017
2) as strict as u.s embassy in YaoundΓ© Cameroon is I have never heard some one missing a lottery visa.
What can possibly cause visa denial in embassy of YaoundΓ©.
Thks for your responds.
August 15, 2016 at 09:46
US embassy in yde is very strick as far as document is concern.
so an attempt in presenting any fake document can cost not only ur denial but might end u up in jail.
If all ur documents are ok.. then the visa will be urs
August 15, 2016 at 13:09
1. No – https://britsimonsays.com/dv2017-basic-questions/

Thanks so much for your very useful website. I filled in my DS 260 as soon as I received my first letter. I put down all my trips to the US previously. I am not sure when I will get my second letter, but I have since booked a vacation to the US for October. I live in a country that operates under the visa waiver program and have obtained my ESTA. Do I need to update my DS 260 to include this trip to the US? Or is my application OK as the information provided was current at the time of filling it in?
Also, will my current trip cause any issues at immigration? I have a return flight booked, so I have proof that I will leave the country and not try and immigrate during this trip.

No issues with the trip on ESTA. Update the DS260 if you are waiting anyway. Read when your interview will be here:

Hi simone,
thanks for your help. i have couple question, please help me:
1.regarding I-134. do we need to state or list our future address to the COs in the sponsor’s address. for example if i am trying to live in LA but my affidavit Sponsor lives in Florida. would that be possible or would that be okay.
2. on I-134 #11. what is the best way to answer for this question. what would be the specific contribution.
Thanks simon for your help. really love your blog.

1. That is OK.
2. An UNSPECIFIED contribution is best. “I intend to provide financial and other support for as long as needed”.

Hi Brit, not to waiste your time …. direct to my questions π
1- Is the Affidavit support neccessary in all countries ( mine is Ethiopia )?
2- which form is that ? ( Is it I-134 ?? )
3- Is there any minimum income requirement for a DV sponsor ?
4- Lastly, I have filled out my cousine’s address on the DS-260 and yet, his friend also his employeer being willing to sponsor me ( more income), will it makes it look fishy as I don’t know my sponsor at all and no direct relationship to him?
Many DV beneficiers are indebted of your unwaivery support and BIG THANKS on behalf of all of them !

1. It is sometimes requested in Ethiopia.
2. Yes
3. Yes – read link below
4. If your cousin has enough income according to the formula, that would be better because of the relationship.

Hi Simon,
I am Nelson. I went for my interview today at my country Liberia embassy and the consular refuse to process my document. Her reason is why I don’t have a child at my age. I told her that I have been wishing for one but God have not given me a child yet. And if I have a child I could have play with that child. She refuse and insist that I have a child but I don’t want tell her the truth. So I want you to please look at my case if I am totally reject/refuse or will they call me back? Case# 2016AF00049xxx

A refusal is normally final. They clearly suspected some sort of fraud – perhaps based on background check. Did they give you any paperwork with a refusal code?

hello,
I’ve seen here people talking about the Form I-134 whereas in Paris embassy specification they ask for Form I-864 and I-864A.. Please could you tell me if that make any difference or is it just based on country particularity!?
also I’m guessin my number 2017EU00011*** might be called in November..Do you think this is a quite accurate guess!?
Thank you for all your help..from all the blogs that I have seen, yours always give clear and succint answer.
thank you

DV cases use I-134, Paris included. You have checked a generic set of instructions for other immigrant types.
