CEAC data DV2016
The CEAC system has been updated with the case data. Interestingly this was made available at the exactly the same date as last year – I think there is a logic switch to only make the data available from 2016.
So – a recap for those that are not aware of what the CEAC data is. CEAC is a government database/web page that allows people to enter their case number and get some basic status information. The site can be access at this link and you can enter the case number without leading zeros. So – if your number is 2016AF00012345, you would enter that as 2016AF12345. We can see that case currently shows “READY”.
So what do the status codes mean.
The first status for every case is “AT NVC”. You can ignore the text on the case – the case has not been passed to NVC. What this status means is that the case is in one of the following situations.
- The case is not yet current.
- The case is current, BUT the DS260 has not be submitted at all, or it was submitted but not processed yet – and therefore not scheduled.
- The case is current, the form is processed, but it is waiting to be scheduled (typically because the cases have not yet been sent to the embassies yet).
“In Transit”
This status is shown for a brief period when KCC has scheduled the interview, and transferred the case to the embassy. However, the embassy has not yet updated CEAC to acknowledge they have received the case.
“READY”
This is the next status after in transit. It means the case has arrived at the embassy for interview. Sometimes a case will continue to show ready even after the interview.
“Issued”
Pretty obviously – this is the status we all want to see! The interview took place, was successful and the visa has been approved/issued.
“Refused”
This is the status no one wants to see, meaning the interview took place and the selectee was denied. A derivative can be refused, while the principal is approved. However, if the principal is refused – all the derivatives are refused also – even if the embassy fails to update CEAC.
“Administrative Processing”
This is when someone did not have all the documents at the interview OR some additional checks are needed before the case can be adjudicated. AP can last a few days or several months. The status updates during that time are meaningless.
Derivative number.
For cases that are scheduled we can see the related derivative numbers. Case 01 is the principal and derivatives are case 02, 03 and so on.
Thanks to a smart guy called Rafikbo, I am able to extract all the CEAC data. I will shortly publish that data and will update that about twice a month. The data lets us understand the progress, predict cutoffs and interviews and so on. So – this is a valuable resource that we can all use to understand the process better. Hopefully this post will help you to understand…

January 1, 2016 at 20:33
Hi Simon,
Happy new year… I thought that CEAC Data will show how many visas were issued in each region!!? consequently, will help in anticipating cut-offs…am I wrong?
regards
January 1, 2016 at 20:37
In the article above I said ” The data lets us understand the progress, predict cutoffs and interviews and so on.”
January 1, 2016 at 20:44
you are right…Sorry for that… 🙂
January 22, 2017 at 05:23

I would be very grateful to have any information about my case.
Cordially,
January 22, 2017 at 05:31
I don’t have any information about your case. You just have to be patient.
January 1, 2016 at 20:36
Excellent thanks. Happy new year.
January 1, 2016 at 20:37
thanks again simon = )
just one question, it says at NVC because i am not current yet but it also says:
Please follow the instructions you received from the National Visa Center (NVC) that list the six steps you must take before NVC can schedule your visa interview appointment. This includes submitting to NVC various fees, forms and documents. Once NVC has received all the required items, they will let you know if anything is missing or incomplete. You can also find these instructions online at http://nvc.state.gov (English) and http://nvc.state.gov/espanol (Spanish). You will find contact information for NVC at http://nvc.state.gov/ask.
i don’t know what is it talking about
January 1, 2016 at 20:41
Which is precisely why I explained that “You can ignore the text on the case “
January 1, 2016 at 20:49
When suppose to publish the file which will you extract my dear. Thanks in advance
January 1, 2016 at 20:53

January 1, 2016 at 22:03

January 1, 2016 at 22:07
Thanks – correcting now
January 2, 2016 at 06:56

September 21, 2016 at 21:05
No. A principal can be approved even though a derivative is refused.
January 3, 2016 at 00:11
happy new year bro.. n thanks for the great work.
some assistance please, I’ve been studying I the neighboring country for a about since 2011 and I answered NO where asked if I have lived outside my country. I have 2 semesters a year which last about 15 weeks each, the rest of the time am home. should correct it or its fine.
January 3, 2016 at 03:07
Correct it.
January 3, 2016 at 03:29
Dear Britsimon
I accidentally stumbled upon your website and boy am I glad! I was a totally in the dark concerning the dv lotto and how it actually works! Not as simple as I naively believed! I’m a 2016 selectee from Zimbabwe, AF5000x. I sent in my DS260 on the 18th of May, 2015. My concern now is that I may not even get an interview since my CN is just barely over 50k! Do you think I may scrape through? And if so, roughly when may we be interviewed?
January 3, 2016 at 06:07
I can’t be sure you will get in. If you do, it is likely to be September.
January 3, 2016 at 19:05
thank u for ur great works
i check it on global-1-1-2015.xlsx
they said AT NVC
January 4, 2016 at 13:06
Dear Brit,
Happy new year. My case was put on AP, the affidavit form I provided during the interview, the income was not suffisant said the CO. Now I am checking for another sponsor. Hope I will find it.
Many thanks for your support, very helpful.
January 4, 2016 at 14:49
Sorry to hear that – did you check the income against the poverty guidelines?
What embassy was that?
January 4, 2016 at 16:45
Hi Brit, if the affidavit owns a house and works 6 hours per day, can it be sufficient for me and my husband? By the way he lives on his own, is not married or have a child.
January 4, 2016 at 18:10
Regardless of his home ownership or hours of work, they will look at his income. More info here:
https://britsimonsays.com/all-about-public-charge-affidavit-of-support-i-134/
January 5, 2016 at 14:00
So he has to earn more than 20000 dollars per year, because we have the interview in Tirana and the embassy requires 125% of the poverty guidelines. They don’t take into consideration his ownership?! 🙁
Can it be considered as an income even the money he gets from the rent of the first floor of his house?
Thanks a lot for the reply!
January 5, 2016 at 15:31
They will only take into account the income on his tax return – so it depends on whether he declares it. Also – make sure your family member number is added to his number in order to check the family size – and then multiply by 125% for Tirana.
January 4, 2016 at 22:37
Please if you complete the DS 260 application will you pay any fees after that?
January 4, 2016 at 22:53
The medicals (cost varies by country), $330 per person for the interview, $165 per person if successful.
January 5, 2016 at 09:50
I completed my DS 260 in October but when I want to check my visa application status it says invalid case number, please what’s wrong
January 5, 2016 at 19:13
You are probably not removing the leading zeros. Enter like 2016AF1234
January 8, 2016 at 15:22
Hi Brit sir, who had not submitted ds 260, is CEAC also shows his case no in “At NVC” ?
January 8, 2016 at 15:37
I said above….
“The case is current, BUT the DS260 has not be submitted at all, or it was submitted but not processed yet – and therefore not scheduled.”
January 11, 2016 at 21:43
Hi BritSimon!
I really appreciate all what you do for everyone, keep up the good deeds, and hope you’re doing well buddy. My case number is among this month visa bulletin cutoffs, I mean the results of the 8th January. Still AT NVC!!! How long does the 2nd letter take to get received after visa bulletin is shown??
January 11, 2016 at 23:11
About 2 weeks, possible a bit more…
January 12, 2016 at 07:09
HI BRIT, I HAVE been interviewed on January 04 and the consular said congrats and gave me a DOS and alien number. but when i check ds 260 status it says “administrative processing”. what does it mean? when does it will be changed to “issued”?
January 12, 2016 at 18:45
They are doing some additional checks. I cannot guess how long that will last.
January 26, 2016 at 05:18
Hi uncle…how are u today I wish u all the best,
I’m sorry to disturb u at this time, I wanna just ask u: I filled my Ds 260 on the End of october my CN is 2016af00026*** so why till now I’m always at NVC??? And when I’ll get the 2NL…thank u uncle again and again be blessed

My case no shows ready when i check it but did not the date yet, when will be my interview, march or april?
January 31, 2016 at 23:27
You must have missed the email – check your ESC page for the interview details.

February 2, 2016 at 15:12
Hi dear BritSimon my case number is 2016AS000113** when to expect my interview ?
February 2, 2016 at 15:50
Your n umber is very high – probably too high to get an interview. Your only choice is to wait for the visa bulletins released in June and July to see if they have allocated more visas to Asia region from EU region.
February 5, 2016 at 21:40
there is anyone in this blog did his medical examen at south africa…if yes how much cost please let me know
February 5, 2016 at 21:56
Call the panel physician for an exact price.
February 11, 2016 at 15:38
I called them and they said they can’t tell me about the price I suppose to go there and talk face to face because they need my case number
February 15, 2016 at 21:57

February 19, 2016 at 12:15
Hi brit thanks for your help our visas we’re approved in december and issued in december still but then I hve a question. If your case is put under Ap at the interview time does the embassy keep the passport with them till when the visa is issued or??
February 19, 2016 at 16:04
Typically the passports are returned for AP cases.
August 4, 2016 at 00:37

April 11, 2016 at 20:34
i saw the update on ceac..
April 11, 2016 at 22:57
Please ignore the updates – they are meaningless.
May 5, 2016 at 17:55
Hi Brit. I was interviewed since February 18 2016 and was put on AP . March 7 2016 I wrote the embassy to get inquiry on my case and my reply was my case is still on Ap .Since March 21, 2016 my status has been refused. What does that mean?
May 5, 2016 at 19:38
Only the embassy can tell you…
June 10, 2016 at 03:55
Thank uncle it take a long times I do not post…I was under preparation for my interview, however my interview was yesterday and my visa its issue…so let me ask you how can I change my adresse at border because I supposed to stay at charlotte but now I will not stay there I wanna stay at atlanta please mr brit give me your advice,if its possible just say yes and explain me how to do that please uncle
June 10, 2016 at 05:03
You live where you want. At the POE simply discuss the address change with the immigration officer.
June 23, 2016 at 22:09
My Interview was 10 days ago, my case was approved they kept my passport, but when i check on CEAC it still shows ready for interview, why it is showing ready for interview?
June 23, 2016 at 23:16
They haven’t updated the status – that’s all. Patience.
June 24, 2016 at 04:14
it has been updated twice so for.
June 24, 2016 at 14:27
But the STATUS is not updated.
June 24, 2016 at 19:36
Yes the status is not updated, it is still showing ready for interview.
August 8, 2016 at 08:03

June 27, 2016 at 02:11
The CEAC data is not ready for DV2017 cases yet and won’t be for several months.
June 27, 2016 at 09:47

July 9, 2016 at 12:12
really apreaciates your great help sir brit, let me send u a Qu and looking forward sir 4 ur reply i am haile from ethiopa that i have aready interviwed on 02\05\2016 (before a month) i am 40 years old single man but at that time z CO told me u should bring confirmatory document from ur kebelle that indicates being single ,and aready brought and submitted via z dhl but my status still AP ,,,,PLEASE BRIT need ur help ………….thanks alot
July 9, 2016 at 14:00
They will probably be continuing with checking. It is impossible to predict how long the AP will last, so you can only wait.
July 11, 2016 at 00:02
hi
we’ve already interviewed and now we are in administrative processing and we’ve been waiting 52 days and the status haven’t updated since 10 or 9 days ago is there any problem?? please answer my question
July 11, 2016 at 01:22
During AP there is nothing you can do but wait. The updates (number of frequency) don’t signify anything.
July 11, 2016 at 13:20
Thank you for your answer
July 12, 2016 at 12:55
Hi m.bri i did contact them and they told me that my case it is on AP so that makes me wonder coz on my interview day they told me that my visa is issued so why im still on AP?
July 12, 2016 at 13:50
OK yes that happens. It means they need to do further background checks. You will need to be patient – AP like this can last quite some time.
July 11, 2016 at 15:34
Hi sir me too i got a problem similar i did my interview on 09th last month and they told me that my visa its issue so why till now my case still ready and i don’t have yet passport and other other papers on my hand?
July 11, 2016 at 16:19
Contact the embassy.
July 11, 2016 at 18:16
hi sir
finally they updated the case status is it a good thing?
July 12, 2016 at 00:35
Does it now say Issued? If so that is obviously good.
July 19, 2016 at 10:03
not yet 🙁
July 19, 2016 at 14:13
OK – so you are on AP. There may be other updates, but the only one that matters is the one that shows ISSUED.
July 11, 2016 at 23:41
Good morning. I am the principal with my EB-3 and my husband and I had our interview. My husband needs to submit his divorce paper from previous marriage so under his number it was put on AP whilst mine is Ready same with my children. It’s been 5 weeks now since our interview and my passport is with London US embassy. Can they process my visa first and give it back to me whilst we sort out my husband’s papers 221g pink? Are there any cases like this? Thank you so much and your website has been a great help for us people with no immigration know-how. More power!
July 12, 2016 at 00:08
Yes they can do that, but typically that is something you discuss at the interview. Now, you could try, but chances are they will issue all together as the case has crossed a month end. THat means the visas need to be re-allocated by KCC after the embassy request that.
July 19, 2016 at 10:24
Just an update from query above. After 6 weeks post embassy interview, my status is now “On administrative processing dated July 19” from Ready(July 18) I also received an email from them,
“Your application is currently being processed. Once processing of your application has been completed, your passport will be handed to the courier company for delivery. On receipt, they will send you an email with a tracking number which can be used to track your delivery online at https://ais.usvisa-info.com. You will be required to sign into your account and go to the “Applicant Summary Page” to check the status.”
Hopefully I will have my visa stamped in my passport.
Thank you so much.
August 8, 2016 at 21:23
July 22 status “Issued” and by July 24 my passport with a sealed package was delivered to my house. Flying to Houston by end of August and received another email from my employer about an updated job offer increase of $10.00/hr plus higher RN position + relocation assistance. Thank you BritSimon??
August 8, 2016 at 21:28
Nice!
August 25, 2016 at 18:05
Hi Sir
Me and my family have applied for EB2 visa and we went to Ankara on 17th may for interview and the interviewer told us that our case is good but we must wait for Administration Processing and the interviewer returned our passport and we have waited for 101 day and we haven’t gotten any answers and we still waiting. The case status has not updated since 2 weeks ago.My question is that what does website updates mean or does the update signify anything?
i would be very appreciate if you answer my question as soon at your convenience
August 25, 2016 at 18:19
The updates happen for various reasons, some insignificant. We cannot know or assume anything from the updates, the only update you care about is the one that changes the status to issued.
Apart from that, ignore the updates.
August 29, 2016 at 16:33
thank you sir. by the way the case status has updated today
September 24, 2016 at 14:19
Sir september it is last month for my visa as well they were updates four times as well that i send to them message for US EMBASSY and they said to me wait untile AP will finished the question is , should i go to the US EMBASSY to ask the status of my case what is your opinon ?
September 24, 2016 at 21:06
You can go if you feel it might help.
October 9, 2016 at 13:07
Hi BRIT, My mother has intetviewd in 17august 2016 F4 visa. we have refused with 221g and submit some documents and we submitted it 19sep.The case updated 22 sep as Ap , on on 2 oct as ready but unfortunately on 5 oct updated as refused. we are 6 aplicant among them 4 aplicants showed as refused and 2 applicants shows as ready. Its an unespected situation. Pls help me?
October 9, 2016 at 13:48
None of you can get the visas now. DV2016 processing has ended. So – even the ones that show ready are not going to get visas.
October 11, 2016 at 14:47
hi sir, is there possibility if your CEAC is refused can change to case is open?
October 11, 2016 at 15:04
If CEAC shows refused that is normally final. If you are seeing CEAC data that must be a DV2016 case – and DV2016 is over so there is NO POSSIBILITY of anyone getting any visas for DV2016 at this time.
October 12, 2016 at 20:08
Hi sir
Is it possible for one to receive an email from the embassy regarding completion of an immigrant processing visa but the corresponding site shows that the process is not completed yet?
October 12, 2016 at 21:15
Yes. The embassy might have completed processing, sent the email, but not updated the site (CEAC)
October 24, 2016 at 09:00

Please tell me when will nvc change my catergory from F2A to CR- 1.
October 24, 2016 at 14:24
I don’t advise on that type of case.
October 26, 2016 at 18:34
Hello
How many working days does it take to issue an immigrant visa?
October 26, 2016 at 18:54
For DV lottery cases? Normally 1 to 2 weeks after interview.
October 26, 2016 at 19:09
Not DV Lottery, EB-2 visa
October 26, 2016 at 22:09
I don’t advise on cases other than DV.
November 3, 2016 at 16:46
My status date changed from AP to Issued on 10/31/2016. I collected my CR1 visa on 11/02/2016 which is in perfect order. My hubby paid $165 USCIS fee on the same date. Today, my CEAC status update date is changed from 10/31/2016 to 11/03/2016 but status is still Issued. Is it to update my passport receipt or USCIS fee? Basically what i want to know is, its routine right, nothing problematic?
November 3, 2016 at 17:42
You need to relax….
November 21, 2016 at 19:05
Hi dear BritSimon my case number is 2016Dj002 when to expect my interview ?
November 21, 2016 at 23:16
I have no idea – that number is not a DV lottery case.
December 13, 2016 at 11:01
Dear Simon,
I would like to check my case status on Ceac. I went to the interview and would like to know my status. I put as you shown, but it asked me different visa case number e.g:mtl0284629869. Can yoy please advise me on how to see how my case is. Thanks
December 13, 2016 at 14:42
CEAC does not have DV2017 data available yet. So – you cannot check it.
December 21, 2016 at 10:36
Hi BritSimon,
Need your help on my case. I applied for L1 Visa. Below are the inputs on my case:
Attended interview on 3-Nov-2016.
During interview VO told that “based on your answers, your visa is not clearly approvable”, and gave me a blue slip marked in 221(g) “not clearly approvable based on the section…”.
Also returned my passport back to me during the end of the interview.
When checked in the CEAC site, it shows the status as “Administrative processing”, from the date of interview to until now.
I sent mail to embassy to know the status of my case, but no reply from them yet.
Can you please let me know, what may happen in my case going forward?
Is it refused or in administrative processing now?
What could be the reason for the administrative procesing delay?
Your response on this would be highly appreciable.
Thanks,
Juliet.
December 21, 2016 at 15:17
I don’t advise on non DV lottery cases – but I can say that 221(g) is administrative processing.
December 25, 2016 at 13:04
Please I need help ….I was denied f1 visa last month…my ds 160 was filled by me and I was not experience in filling it So i didn’t fill my educational background …I made that correction on my new ds 160 and reapplied …after which I was approved on the new apoontment Date and form ..when I check my visa status days after the interview I saw refused…what is w
December 25, 2016 at 20:21
I only advise on DV lottery cases.
January 6, 2017 at 15:26
Hello Simon. Happy New year. My family went for the interview in December and by the grace of God we had approval for our application. We have checked the ceac site and the status is ISSUED for the principal and the derivatives. The last update for the principal was December 29, 2016 whilst the last update for the derivatives was December 21, 2016. Up until now we have still not received our passports. We have gone to the courier they say they have not had it either. Please what could possibly be the reason and what do you suggest we do? Our status has shown ISSUED for more than 2 weeks but not receive the passports.
Thanks
January 6, 2017 at 17:17
Christmas and New Year would have caused some delays. Relax and be patient.

My husband had his interview and they kept his passport and put in AP awaiting medical and now it says refused but no notification received as to why and how to get back his passport. He emailed them and they replied that the case is still in AP, SO confused as to what’s happening.

Yours is the second case I am hearing about where the CEAC status says refused when the case is actually on AP. So – just ignore the CEAC status, and wait for AP to be resolved.

Thanks so much BritSimon. I wonder if the other one you heard about has since been resolved and approved (not that it would indicate what will happen with ours, just curious and would perhaps offer a little hope). Thanks again for your speedy reply and insight.

The other case still reads refused. But regardless, ignore CEAC.

My fiancee’s interview date was February 13, 2017 and we’ve checked CEAC update status still shows “READY” and nothing changed since then. It has been 15 working days even though we’ve emailed and called the Embassy Manila for follow up but still have not received any updates to-date either. How long do we have to wait whether the visa was approved or not?

I assume he was told he was on AP at the interview. The waiting time for AP varies.

Hi Brit, I went for my interview on 2nd march 2017… The CO based the interview on my job knowing very well that my Job doesn’t qualify so I used my waec certificate….After the interview she returned my passport and gave me a blue sheet with Administrative Processing checked…The CO wrote down a new date and time for another interview on the blue sheet…Please what are my chances
March 7, 2017 at 15:02
I can’t guess.

Hi Brits, pls if your status is visa issued. But you were given two weeks at the interview to pick it at DHL. Pls, do you have to wait for an email or call before you go to the DHL office to pick it up. Thanks for your help which contributed so much to my success.
March 8, 2017 at 16:16
The pick up arrangements vary by embassy. They should have given you instructions…

My case was sent to AP with 221(g) , after I’ve sent all the necessary documents status changed to “returned to NVC”. What does that mean?
March 18, 2017 at 12:39
I don’t know.

AP times vary greatly. With what you said, I can’t tell why you are on AP, so cannot guess how long you will wait.

Cases often show AP for a few days before changing to Issued. Exercise some patience.
