People have started receiving their 2NLs for April 2017 interviews. It will take a few hours – and possibly even a couple of days before all have gone out. As we know, these 2NLs were significantly delayed this month, most likely due to the additional work for KCC caused by the travel ban canceled interviews that needed to be rescheduled.
The email itself has no useful information. It simply tells you to check the ESC site for the interview details. Some people that receive the email will find the ESC site is not ready, those people should try again after a few hours. Also, some people find the email itself goes to a trash or spam folder or somehow miss it. So – if you think you may have been scheduled but missed your email, you can check the ESC site, just in case. The 1NL (you have been selected letter) is replaced by a new letter which gives the appointment details.
For those that received their interview notice, now is the time to start preparing for the interview. Gathering documents, scheduling the medical and so on. To learn how to prepare please view my guide on preparing for the interview.
If you have received your 2NL – please take a moment to reply to this post and add your region/case number range PLUS the date of submission and whether you unlocked at any point. This helps me gauge the backlog and DS260 processing times. Last month it was clear that cases submitted later than early September had a chance not to be scheduled because of backlog on DS260 processing. I am hopeful the pace of processing has sped up now, so I expect to see October and November submissions scheduled for April interviews – but some feedback will be useful to determine that accurately.
If as I suspect we do see some December submissions being scheduled this month, it will indicate that the backlog has been reduced or even eliminated. There will always be a minimum amount of processing delay for the background checks, but the 5+ month delays we saw in the beginning were a volume of submitted cases being taken on a first come first served basis. That created a waiting time in addition to the required processing time. As the volume has reduced, the waiting time will be almost eliminated, and the processing time will be just a few weeks. That is precisely what we have seen in previous years.

Simon, we hope to travel to US as soon as the interview’s done. And we want to stay only for about 3 weeks before coming back to Aus. We hope to do all the things that need to be done including applying for social security no as well as deposit a fairly large sum of money in a bank.
Is that ok? I hope to get back to US permanently towards the end of the year while the rest of the family joins me in late 2018.
Thanks.

No problem. Everyone must re-enter before 12 months absence.

March 4, 2017 at 22:32
Hello dear Simon! I am new to this site but I have two concerns. I am a winner of dv2017 with my husband and my three children. CN 33xxx. 1) When I had my baccalaureat it was with the name of FATU SONYI KABUYAKA but just before celebrating my marriage in 2014, I changed my name to the tribunal in FATUMA SONYI KABUYA. I even have the judgment of this change of name. This under this new name that I won at DV. Can it be a problem with the interview? 2) I submitted my DS on 02/12/2016 first with me and my husband then I unblocked the 15/02/2017 to add my children when I had their passport. Could you estimate the month of my 2nd letter
March 4, 2017 at 23:14
1. No problem
2. Probably May 2NL, perhaps June. (July or August interview).
March 5, 2017 at 07:04
Thanks dear Britsimon
March 4, 2017 at 22:37
Brit,
From all the postings that I’ve read, I think only cases submitted up to early October has been scheduled. I think for us that submitted our DS260 forms in November, will have to wait for May interviews.
However, do you think it is still possible for those that submitted in November, to get there’s by next Monday or Tuesday? As some of us that submitted in November, have been current long ago.
March 4, 2017 at 23:15
No I think early to mid October is what they have scheduled for April interviews.
March 4, 2017 at 23:53
Hey Mr brit I hope you are good I ask you before about the 2end letter I was do it my ds-260 in 22 October and my case number is AF6800 and I still now without second letter I send a email for KCC and he answered me with this “(Your forms have been received and pending further embassy review for the continuation of your visa processing)” what does it mean that I don’t understand
1)probably when it I will receive the second letter??
2) and after I receive the second letter my interview it will be after that with one month or more
thanxx for your help )))
March 5, 2017 at 00:07

Regardless of any delay, you should have added the child months ago. Do that without any further procrastination.
March 5, 2017 at 10:01
HI Simon
I’m from Libya; one of the 7 countries affected by President Trump EO. however, I have a growing feeling that people from these countries are not welcomed anymore in the US, despite lifting the travel ban. My major concern and thoughts is that the Consulates staff could be affected by the canceled provision of travel ban, and a sort of hate could be growing up. More candidates from these countries could be denied as a result. In addition, those how could pass the interview and travel to US may receive unfair behavior either in the port of entry or inside USA.
I have two questions
1- Is me prediction above correct? If not is absolutely not?
2- My case No: 2017AF 38XXX,the DS260 was send to KCC on 29 June 2016, and still not received the 2nd NL. Is that normal?
Thanks
March 5, 2017 at 14:39
1. Absolutely not.
2. Yes, your number is not current yet.
FYI, there is likely to be a new version of the ban this week which may affect you.
March 5, 2017 at 16:04
Please is there any person from AF region who submitted his DS 260 in October without unlock and has received his 2NLS for April interview.
March 5, 2017 at 16:07
Yes. But October 1 is not the same as October 31, and all cases are different.
March 6, 2017 at 12:12
Hi Simon, I Submitted October 4 and my case is 2017AF00023xxx and I did not receive my 2NL. when Should I expect my 2NL Simon
March 6, 2017 at 15:38
Maybe in a month.
March 5, 2017 at 16:28
since we can not see any December or even November submissions, as you have suspected in your post, can we say the backlog is not cleared anymore?
March 5, 2017 at 16:43
It will never really be “cleared”. Just reduced, but yes, it was disappointing to see no November submissions.
March 5, 2017 at 17:19
as I speculated sometime ago, I think KCC is waiting for the new EO, that is why the have not scheduled people from the 7 affected countries for April interviews.
March 5, 2017 at 19:07
Maybe, BUT we don’t know they have not scheduled people from those 7 countries. But, very obviously there were 2 months of cancelled interviews from those countries to accommodate, make complex because some (not all) of the embassies reinstated the cancelled interview time slots. So – the speculation may be correct – but even without that, the delay is perfectly understandable.
I expect a new EO this week, so we will see the impact of that shortly.
March 5, 2017 at 16:31
Hi, I have case of an interview that have been already scheduled on 03rd April, but he has to marry on 21st March, he would like to postpone his interview and add his wife, please what can he do?
March 5, 2017 at 16:42
Contact the embassy.
March 5, 2017 at 17:20
Hi Brit,
My case number is OC6xx
Submitted DS260 on 7th October.Unlocked 15th Nov and resubmitted on 16th Nov. Have checked my email and ESC site but no 2NL yet.
Kind regards.
March 5, 2017 at 19:08
Probably May interviews then.
March 5, 2017 at 19:33
Hi Brit;
I am just creating headache for u I know.
But as I told you I didnt receive my 2Nl and i sent ds july.
So it will come or shall I expect may as a month for my interview??
March 5, 2017 at 19:37
I don’t think you will get an April interview. You might get an interview in May, but of course, we have to see what the next Executive Order says.
March 5, 2017 at 20:33
Good evening everyone, I just want to know if after the interview and the visa you are granted you can leave any country?
For example I am Togolese I will go to Lomé for my interview so after I want to return to France and leave 3 months later.
I’m waiting for your answers.
Thank you
March 5, 2017 at 20:35
No problem.
March 5, 2017 at 20:36
Thank U Brit ??
March 5, 2017 at 22:05
Hi Mr Simon
I hope you are doing well. My case number is AF31××× I have submitted Ds260 in May 23 and Im not one of those countries banned in the last EO yet, Im still didn’t receive my 2NL for an April interview. Do you think they will send it next Monday or my interview will be in May?
March 6, 2017 at 01:10
I don’t know.
March 6, 2017 at 05:07
Hello Brit Simon,
Initially selected in September (second draw), submitted DS on september 11 never unlocked, 2NL came on March 03, interview scheduled in the middle of April. Thank you very much for your support and advice!
By the way, can you please provide me with the links regarding preparing medical documents? I would appreciate that!
Thanks a lot1
March 6, 2017 at 06:55
You don’t prepare medical documents. You book a medical with the physician preferred by the embassy.
March 6, 2017 at 10:03
hi simon,
I can’t print my interview letter i tried a lot and every time i got this message ” Warning: Session timed out.”

March 6, 2017 at 12:19
Same here… Select, copy and paste in word App then print
March 6, 2017 at 14:37

Close all browser windows and try again.
March 6, 2017 at 12:00
Hello,
I’ve did my medical exam last week and this week i have the visa appointment. I have this condition that i can’t lie. And of course the doctor asked if i ever did any drugs. Am i stupid that i admit that i used drugs when i was in university (40 now)? The doctor wanted another test from me but on the internet i saw a similar case who also told the doctor he used a long time ago and got the test result negative but in the embassy they told him “you admitted that you have used drugs, no visa for you”
If i loose my visa for something like that i will be devastated. Did you see any similar case? Or any more people who got denied because they said they used drugs before for once.
March 6, 2017 at 15:39
You are worrying for nothing.
March 6, 2017 at 12:22
Hello Simon
I hope you are doing well
I just have a question on behalf of my friend who went into the interviews on 12th last December, and since then his case shows as ready,
The selectee is from sudan which was included in the previous travel ban, could you please explain what’s happening or may be the future for him and will he loose his chance of getting a visa since 3 months had already passed??
Thanks in advance
March 6, 2017 at 15:37
It sounds like the case is on AP. All he can do is wait. I can’t predict how long it will take.
March 6, 2017 at 13:33
Hi Mr Simon, My case number is AF315×× I have submitted Ds260 in May 09 and my country is Ethiopia, Still i didn’t receive my 2NL for April interview. Do you think will they send it next days or my interview will be in May?
March 6, 2017 at 15:00
Ethiopia is at 24500 for April interviews. So, you need to wait.
March 6, 2017 at 13:41
Hi Brit, my understanding that the DV interview fee is $330 (per person) regardless my case is approved or not. I will pay that fees at the embassy in Cairo at same day of the interview as per the instructions.
The question if my case will be approved and I will get the visa, do I need to pay any other USCIS immigrant fees online before traveling to US?
March 6, 2017 at 14:59
$220 per person is paid after approval. Online, just before travel, or even after travel.
March 6, 2017 at 16:46
will it be paid at same time or later???
March 6, 2017 at 16:49
Exactly what I said above.
March 6, 2017 at 20:02
Brit, can you pls. share the site which we pay those $220 online as am confused with other site says fees are $1140 since dec 2016
March 6, 2017 at 21:32
The site is Elis and the embassy would have given you the details (or google it). The 1140 is for adjustment of status cases.
March 6, 2017 at 14:02
Trump again try to kills the law and made other executive order
March 6, 2017 at 14:02
Ibrahim,i think you have to pay 220$ for getting the green card posted to your sponsor adress.Hi Brit i have a question for you.Affidavit of support i-134 has a lot of confidential requests like how much money you have in bank etc.Do you think it can cause a problem this for the person that does the support for green card or the information will stay confidential.I was thinking he maybe does not want me to know all those stuff like the ammount of money he has in bank.Thank you.
March 6, 2017 at 14:15
Thanks Arti….by the ways your question is very valid and was thinking the same…let’s have Brit’s feedback on both questions
March 6, 2017 at 14:56
If this is someone who is prepared to support you, confidentiality won’t be a problem.
March 6, 2017 at 14:28
Hello Mr. Simon,
I have been living in this present address since 2011/2012 but i had accidentally wrote 2005 in DS 260. i haven’t lived anywhere other than this address since the age of 16. Will this create a problem? Should i unlock the form or can i change it at the interview?
Looking forward to get your quick response.
Case no: 2017AS739*, Nepal
March 6, 2017 at 14:55
Change at the interview.
March 7, 2017 at 03:22
Will it effect in receiving the second letter?
(if my case number becomes current)
I’m worried i might not receive the second letter because of this mistake.
March 7, 2017 at 03:35
No effect on 2NL
March 7, 2017 at 03:44
Thank you sir for your help.
March 6, 2017 at 15:15
Hello Brit Simon,
Just one question. A friend of mine is 2017 dv selectee with his family. But his wife is a principal applicant. The thing is my friend was refused a tourist visa (B1 B2) in February 2015 but while his DS 260 form was being completed in a question “Have you ever been refused a U.S. Visa, been refused admission to the United States, or withdrawn your application for admission at the port of entry?”, the answer was NO. Because it was completed by a third party. He has never been in the US before he was just refused a visa at the Embassy. The case number is EU000083XX and the DS was submitted in November 15th. He is now expecting the letter to arrive after 20th of March. Do you think he still has a chance to request KCC to unlock his case so he can change that answer to YES and indicate the time and reason for his refusal? Or would that be unnecessary because it is his wife who is the principal applicant and she is the one who will be asked primary questions? look forward to your reply
March 6, 2017 at 16:08
As he is a derivative it is less damaging, but regardless, he should unlock and correct it immediately.
March 6, 2017 at 15:41
Hi Simon, I Submitted October 4 and my case is 2017AF00023xxx but I did not receive my 2NL. when Should I expect my 2NL Simon

Hello Brit
I’m from Morocco and I didn’t receive my second letter. But Algerian received their letters .why?
March 7, 2017 at 16:37
It depends on case number and date of DS260 submission.

March 7, 2017 at 19:23
You need to read the link I gave you. If you decide to use an I-134, it will need to be supported by 1040/W2, Payslips, and Photo ID. Any US resident will know what those things are.

Hello Simon. Thanks for your help and patience with us.. May I please ask you a few questions (my google search was not very successful):
1. I live outside of country where I was born and I need to get police certificate from there and from a neighboring Eastern European country. I understood that process will be very long as I need to send a letter to Ministry of Internal Affairs of country where I live now to legalize my citizenship documents here.
Then they will send it to embassy of the country where I was born to legalize it. Then I need to notarize it and send it to the country where I was born asking through a notarized letter to authorize my representative who will ask on my behalf this police certificate. All of this is going to cost with notarization and translations 4-5 hundreds of dollars. My question is: in case if I don’t get on time for my interview this police certificate back, will it be a big issue?
2. In case when I have several certificates and diplomas (high school, colleges & universities) do I have to translate and notarize all of them (they were all on my submitted DS160)? Has translation has to be by certified translator and notarized prior to interview?
3. Do we have have to translate through certified translator our birth certificates or anyone with good English language can translate? Do birth certificates have to be also notarized? I find information on DV web site to be somewhat confusing. Thanks very much Simon!
March 8, 2017 at 03:17
1. If you are required to produce a police certificate your case will be on hold until you provide it. You don’t need to pay for professional translations – anyone competent on both languages can translate and sign it. Make sure you follow the official instructions on the country specific reciprocity page about police certs. It should not be costing hundreds of dollars.
2. See 1.
3. See 1.
March 8, 2017 at 05:40
Hello Britsimon, FYI I received my 2nl on March 3 for April interview. Case no is 2017 AS 40## from Nepal. I had submitted Ds260 on June 1 and later unlocked and resubmitted on mid Dec to add my newly married case and didn’t get delayed for 2nl. Thank you for your help and your posts.
I have few questions, I am numbering them:
1. My husband is currently in Japan right now. He has recently extended his visa in Japan and the immigration has attached a slip of visa apply in his passposrt in Japanese lang. Now he is coming here in Nepal for interview with the visa apply slip on his passport as he won’t be getting the visa decision till a month. The concern I am having is will the US Embassy asks us about the slip that is in Jap. lang? Can we translate it or they have translator? Please suggest me on it.
2. I am currently on weight loss program and also on few weight loss medication, will it effect me on the medicals for interview?
Thank you so much for your kindness.
March 8, 2017 at 07:04
1. I doubt they would need that translated.
2. No.

Hello Simon,
Since the batch of 2NLs are already send out. What should we expect in the next batch in terms of submissions, is it likely to cover up to end of December Submissions. My case number is 2017AF22XXX (Kenya) I submitted my DS 260 in 20th Dec 2016, (Never unlocked it again)
– When am I likely to get my 2NL since my case number became current a while ago?
– What are my chances of being considered for the next batch for an interview in May?
– What is likely to the latest time I am likely to receive the 2NL?
Finally, I want to thank you for your guidance and selfless assistance, most of what we go through is somewhat new and most of us are literary clueless. Thanks for always been here for us, we appreciate and do not take that for granted. Thank you!

Your late submission has caused the delay. I don’t think they will get to your case for May interviews, probably June.

Nothing is wrong. Calm down. Wait for your number to be current. I already told you exactly that.
