People are now receiving their 2NLs for November interviews!! It will take a few hours – and possibly even a couple of days before all have gone out.
The email itself has no useful information. It simply tells you to check the ESC site for the interview details. Some people that receive the email will find the ESC site is not ready, those people should try again after a few hours. Also, some people find the email itself goes to a trash or spam folder or somehow miss it. So – if you think you may have been scheduled but missed your email, you can check the ESC site, just in case. The 1NL (you have been selected letter) is replaced by a new letter which gives the appointment details.
For those that received their interview notice, now is the time to start preparing for the interview. Gathering documents, scheduling the medical and so on. To learn how to prepare please view my guide on preparing for the interview.
If you have received your 2NL – please take a moment to reply to this post and add your region/case number range PLUS the date of submission and whether you unlocked at any point. This helps me gauge the backlog and DS260 processing times. Last month it was clear that cases submitted later than mid May had a chance not to be scheduled because of backlog on DS260 processing. We will see how far that backlog has been handled.
*** Update 9/21/2016 ***
Based on feedback received it looks like the majority of cases that are being scheduled have submission dates up to late May. Because not all cases take the same time to process, some current cases submitted in early June might have been scheduled and some current cases submitted in mid to late May might NOT be scheduled. That is all “normal” and in line with what I expected. Nothing to panic about. If you were expecting an interview scheduled but now find you missed the November interviews, that is fine – it simply means you will be interviewed later. That is not a problem, the Green Cards are the same Green Cards, so please – R E L A X!

Hi Simon
I email K CC 28 November and this was their reply to me
“Your forms have been received and are currently processing. Allow several weeks for processing. Interviews are scheduled numerically based on case numbers that have completed processing.”
1) it means im safe or not ?
2) i submitted DS 260 form MAY 27
3) 2017AS000002xx (Nepal)
So i am worried b/s 100% i exepext my interview on December.

It means you have to wait.
October 12, 2016 at 09:22
Hi Simon
I email K CC 28 SEPTEMBER and this was their reply to me
“Your forms have been received and are currently processing. Allow several weeks for processing. Interviews are scheduled numerically based on case numbers that have completed processing.”
October 11, 2016 at 04:08
My Case number is 2017OC000002XX
October 11, 2016 at 04:07
Hi Simon
I email KCC last week Friday and this was their reply to me
Your case number is now current for interview processing. Once the interview date has been scheduled, you will receive notification via email to check http://www.dvlottery.state.gov. If you need to make changes to your DS-260 you should contact the consular section where you will be interviewed, or bring the information about your changes to your interview appointment. Because your case is ready to be scheduled, KCC can no longer unlock your application.
What does this means.
Vina.

Hi Simon!
I am a winner dv2017, my rank is EU22690 I will do my interview in paris but in the meanwhile I live in another country since 8 years( I hold dual citizenship) where the official language is not french nor english so I will have to translate the police certificate in one of these two Languages. According to the data, I will be schduled in february .
My question is if I ask a police certificate now in the coutry I live in will it be correct for february or the police certificate must be dated of less than one month?
Thank you for all your help
Olivier
October 10, 2016 at 20:13
Translate to English.
Get the police cert nearer the time.
October 10, 2016 at 20:34
Yes ok but generally is there any rule about the maximum maturity of police certificate ?
October 10, 2016 at 22:27
Police certs should be less than 6 months old.

October 7, 2016 at 19:27
should i prepared for December?
October 7, 2016 at 16:23
Hi Brit. Could you please advice me: when I registered me and my wife for DV-2017 I hadn’t child, now I have. Should I add as applicant in DS-260 form, no matter she’s not immigrating with us, but later. Does it mean anyway to fill/send DS-260 to her as well? Or is it ok, not to add my child (not fill DS-260 to her), as only me and my wife will be going for visa interview. Thank you in advance for your reply.
October 7, 2016 at 22:19
You should add the child to your own DS260s. You don’t have to create a DS260 for the child if you are not applying for a GC for the child. However, you should understand the timeline/complexity of bringing your child later.

That will not be a problem.
October 5, 2016 at 09:46
Hey – in the event of status change, do they require officially translated copies of documents such as birth and marriage certificates?
October 5, 2016 at 13:47
Translated documents, yes. Unless the language is the official local language at the embassy.
October 5, 2016 at 08:53
No background education
October 5, 2016 at 08:12
Good morning Brit. am also from Ghana i work as an Electrician Wire-man i completed 4 years of apprenticeship am i also disqualified like the Mary you are talking to here?
October 5, 2016 at 13:57
I asked Mary several times for education. She did not answer so I stopped asking. If your education meets the requirements, the job is unimportant. It’s explained here.

Filld Date :jun 08,2016
when i can receive the 2NL?
October 5, 2016 at 14:00
Probably in 2 to 3 weeks for December interview (unless you are from Nepal)
October 4, 2016 at 23:30
Brit Simon thank you so much and my SVP Range of Electrical is (6.0>7.0) So i want ask if my job is qualified? pls help me thank you.
October 4, 2016 at 23:33
No your work is not qualified.
October 5, 2016 at 00:01
Please Brit Simon don’t get me wrong i beg of you can you please explain it nice to me why the job is not qualified please again have patient thank you.
October 5, 2016 at 00:04
The rules of the DV lottery say that IF someone is trying to qualify using work experience, that work experience must be at a certain level – defined as job zone 4 and SVP range of 7 or higher. The electrician job I linked to is job zone 3 and SVP 6 to 7. That is not considered “skilled” enough to be a qualifying job.
October 5, 2016 at 00:21
Thanks A lot for your help, Brit i have License and every document about it so i want to try my best and see my luck
October 5, 2016 at 00:26
You are free to spend your time and money however you wish.
October 4, 2016 at 23:18
Hi Brit
My Case Number 2017OC000002 xx
When will i receive my 2NL, i submit my DS 260 on late August.
October 4, 2016 at 23:22
I don’t know. Once we see the backlog progress over the next couple of months we will know better. It will certainly not be December interviews and probably not January either.
October 4, 2016 at 14:05
Hi Brit Simon thank you for your advice, I work as an Electrician with 2yrs working experience from Ghana DV 2017 fiscal year for 1 October. I submitted my form today and i want to ask if what am doing is correct pls help me thank you
October 4, 2016 at 14:54
You asked me a few days ago about your work experience. I gave you a link to read. Did you do that? Does your work experience meet the requirements OR do you have education that meets the requirements?
October 4, 2016 at 23:08
Can you please help me with the check as i don’t understand plssss
October 4, 2016 at 23:19
A regular electrician does not meet the requirement.
http://www.onetonline.org/link/summary/47-2111.00
I asked you about education – if you answer that, perhaps I can help.
October 4, 2016 at 13:25
Hello,
I want to share my experiance with you. Today I had interview at U.S. Embassy Lithuania.
First of all, I came to Embassy and Lithuanian citizen checked my passport, obtained all nessacary documents (police record, university diplom, certificate of birth, two photography, medical results and I paid 330 USD). Then, I sat and wait while consul will be ready to review my documents. I was a little be stressful and nervous, becouse before me one young couple heard that they visa did not approve and the reason: you do not meet the minimal requirments. After that, consul pronounce my name and asked me to come near window. He already had all my documents. He did not ask me any questions and the interview went as the following:
C: Good morning
Me: Good morning
C: Please put your fingers on scanner
Me: Yes, of course.
C: Everything looks good, you have university degree.
Me: Yes, I have.
He typing something in PC and after 2-3 minutes.
C: Okey, your visa has been approved, congratulation.
Me: Oh… thank you (Happy)
And only after that he asked me what I am planning to do in USA.
I want to say THANK YOU to BritSiom, your blog is very helpful, I did everything step-by-step that you wrote here and get visa.
Thank YOU!
Sorry for my bad english 🙂
October 4, 2016 at 13:30
That is how the interviews normally go if the documents are all prepared correctly. Very fast interviews, minimal questions. EASY HUH?
Congratulations!!!
October 4, 2016 at 08:45
Dear Simon,
I am an Ethiopian and living in Ethiopia. But when I sent my first DV application, I was mistaken in writing place of foreign state chargeability. Does this affect the next processing?
October 4, 2016 at 12:52
Yes it can affect you – what was the country you picked?
October 4, 2016 at 14:45
EUROPE(KOSOVO)
Dear simon, what can I do to OVERCOME THIS PROBLEM?
October 4, 2016 at 15:00
You cannot overcome this problem. You have a number that starts 2017EU…. and that is not allowed. You will be disqualified. You should not even proceed, as it will be a waste of time and money.

October 1, 2016 at 15:24
Hey Simon,
I trust this message finds you well and in a very good shape.
I am writing from Djibouti, a very tiny country from the horn of Africa. I have been recommanded by a friend to write to you regarding few concern i have regarding DVlottery 2017.
I am a winner of 2017 DVlottery since may 2016 with a number 2017AF10XXX and never filled my Ds260 to date as i was encountering very difficult time with my wife. She is as well mentionned as my wife in the dvlottery. We recently divorced now and planning to fill my ds260 the soonest. My concern are as follows.
1) i dont have to fill her DS260 since we are no more togheter rite?
2) by filling my ds260 do i have to mention that i recently divorced where they ask me about my marital status?
3) it seems pretty tough for me to get a sponsor based in the US and if i fail to do so what kinda arrangement do i have to provide.
Thank you in advance for your precious time in helping people throughout the world.
With Kindest Regards,
Sam
October 1, 2016 at 15:40
1. No you don’t have to complete a DS260 for her.
2. You must state your marital status as divorced (assuming you have been through a legally recognized divorce process)

You can’t change anything if your interview is scheduled. The mistakes sound trivial – so don’t stress about it.

September 29, 2016 at 16:56
hey…Brit ………My case number is AF000038**from Ethiopia.I received my 2NL for November 1 interview. But when i contacted the US Embassy in Addis Ababa to register my interview date ,it kept saying that …” the immigrant visa case no provided is not ready to schedule an appointment..”………………. and and on the form below my case no it says ” is not ready for an appointment ” is has been a week since i received my 2nl …………what shall i do??
September 29, 2016 at 17:08
Your case is already scheduled by KCC. Attend the interview! You probably need to register for DHL – do that without worrying about setting an appointment through that system. If needed, choose another type of visa to allow you to create the account WITHOUT an interview schedule.
October 10, 2016 at 12:22
HELLO ABD,
GOOD TO HEAR THAT YOU HAVE RECEIVED YOUR 2NL.
CAN WE HAVE EMAIL CHAT PLEASE?

Hey Brit, on my Marriage Certificate my Surname was added front of my name and my family name is not there for example my name should be “Anton Jim Kennedy Francis” but on my Marriage Certificate it says “Francis Jim Kennedy” this will make a issue on the Interview or shall I get an Affidavit from my lawyer saying my both names are correct, please advise
September 29, 2016 at 17:10
Is there a comma after the lastname? If so, that is a normal convention.
Anton, Jim Kennedy Francis
In any case it is not a problem.
September 29, 2016 at 17:23
No my Original Name should look like this = “Anton Jim Kennedy Francis” but on my Marriage Certificate it says “Francis Jim Kennedy”, my Family name Anton is missing on my Marriage certificate and my Surname “Francis” written in the first instead of last
September 29, 2016 at 13:44
Hi Birt,
Will the health conditions of the dependent members of the family (having hypertension, being diabetic) age of 45+ will be a cause of denial, provided all other conditions ( Education, Finance etc) are well and good?
Thanks
J
September 29, 2016 at 17:11
Those things you list are not a cause of concern.
September 30, 2016 at 04:36

September 29, 2016 at 13:36

September 29, 2016 at 08:34
Dear BritSimon
i sent an email to the embassy after receiving 2NL for November interview asking about the details of my interview and the answer was the following (We have checked our files for your case with the information provided in your inquiry, but were unable to locate any records.
Please note that all approved immigrant visa petitions are first forwarded to the National Visa Center (NVC) by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS) office for preliminary processing. We have not yet received your case file from the NVC in the United States. We recommend that you contact the USCIS office that received this visa petition or the NVC with any inquiries about this case.
Sincerely,

U.S. Consulate General Guangzhou, China
any suggestions please?
September 29, 2016 at 10:04
Wait a few days and try again.
September 29, 2016 at 07:01
Dear Simon,
my wife is a winner of dv2017 including me and 4 children we have. my question is if conditions are not conducive to move all the family together is it only the principal applicant that can move first and the others follow? I asked this mainly because due to some reasons it could be better if I (DERIVATIVE) move first and create favorable condition to move all our family
September 29, 2016 at 10:33
The principal selectee must enter the USA with or before the derivatives. All entries must be before the expiry date of the visa.
September 28, 2016 at 11:59

September 28, 2016 at 10:13
Hi brit. I have a question. If i unlock my ds260 now and add some additional information, will it delay my interview? My cn EU68xx & i submitted ds 260 on 9th of june. By the way, I haven’t received 2nl yet. Thank you in advance
September 28, 2016 at 13:07
If you do it immediately and resubmit, it probably will not delay. However, correcting mistakes is always the right approach even IF a delay is caused – delay is better than denial.
September 28, 2016 at 09:01
Hi Simon
Thanks a lot for your website.
For your data crunching I received 8 days ago my 2NL for a November the 30th embassy interview: Confirmation number 2017EU00011XXX, submitted the DS-260 in late May, never unlocked it.
See you there! 🙂

September 28, 2016 at 02:24
Sir
There are many consulatancies in Nepal who guide the people with taking a huge cost ? Do we need consulting for this process ?I think they take knowledge from your website and they do the same and fool people .
It was just a feeling from my side. You are truly awesome though i may or may not get a visa.
Awaring the people
Best Regards
September 28, 2016 at 02:28
This is a simple process, there is no need to pay these firms….
September 27, 2016 at 19:43
Hi Simon,
I would like to ask if I need to take to my interview any documents about my work experience? Is it advisable?
September 27, 2016 at 20:06
If you qualify on education basis they rarely ask for work experience, BUT there is no such thing as being too prepared.
September 27, 2016 at 15:12
Hello, I have one question. If i receive 2NL does it mean that my background check is done and i sm clear ? Or if there is a problem i will be informed at the interview? Do you know any cases like that?

KCC do not have authority to deny a case. So – if the background check reveals an issue, the 2NL will still be sent and the issue will be discussed at interview.
