People have started receiving their 2NLs for October 2017 interviews – meaning the first DV2018 interviews. This will take a few hours – and possibly even a couple of days before all have gone out.
The email itself has no useful information. It simply tells you to check the ESC site for the interview details. Some people that receive the email will find the ESC site is not ready, those people should try again after a few hours. Also, some people find the email itself goes to a trash or spam folder or somehow miss it. So – if you think you may have been scheduled but missed your email, you can check the ESC site, just in case. The 1NL (you have been selected letter) is replaced by a new letter which gives the appointment details.
For those that received their interview notice, now is the time to start preparing for the interview. Gathering documents, scheduling the medical and so on. To learn how to prepare please view my guide on preparing for the interview.

Hi Brit, 2018 winners not yet interviewed can enter 2019 dv lottery without any problem is this allowed? My second question what will happen if a winner of 2018 get a visa and at the same time as he or she already entered the 2019 got selected for 2019? Will this scenario not be considered as a fraud or something else bad which can harm the winner? Thanks

September 18, 2017 at 00:40
Dear Brit:
Im a dv2017 selectee ,born on libya and have a palestinian passport only, I had my intereview on 21 May, I got my visa stamped on 30 August with expiry date 27 October, I planned to travel on 27 of September.
But now I read on your blog that i’m impacted with the travel ban, I know you had said that (Anyone already with an ISSUED visa (i.e. stamped in your passport), or existing Green Card holder is automatically exempt from the ban and can continue with travel), but then you’d said (People holding a visa ISSUED prior to the ban) will be exempted . I cant actually understand my situation, should I travel at my date or should I wait ?
September 18, 2017 at 01:00
I have to say I don’t hold a Libyan nationality nor passport, only Palestinian passport
September 18, 2017 at 03:54
They clearly have not applied the ban to you.
September 16, 2017 at 23:40
Hi, Britsimon, my number is SA17xx, should I send my DS260 anyway?
September 17, 2017 at 00:06
Yes. You have a chance of interview.
September 12, 2017 at 19:46
Hi Simon,
I have a challenge in my birth certificate. Spelling of my name in birth certificate from India is not same as my name.
So requested a birth certificate from indian embassy in Saudi Arabia they have provided me one based on my passport.
I am trying to change the name in birth certificate in India to be same as my name in Passport. It looks a lengthy process.
Please advise if there is any other possibility to move forward. My interview is after 3 weeks.
Thanks in advance for your kind support.
September 12, 2017 at 20:28
I have no idea about Indian birth certs/procedures.
September 12, 2017 at 12:15
Dear Simon
Firstly I wanted to thank you again so much for all the help you kindly did made me to receive my visa just today with your all supports and guides and all up and downs since i was from Iran and you know the story.
I have one last question for you which i really appreciate if you help. After I received my AP clearance letter I presented my bona fide documents along with our passports in embassy, the day after I received call from them that the officer put a note on my file requiring police certificate from Canada where my wife had lived for 9 month at the age of 15 and 16.I asked them to keep our passport till i provide for them. By the time I was applying for that and sending fingerprints to Canada my status surprisingly become Issued and today i received my passport and visas from post office. Since my AP was cleared and our visas issued do you think it is still requires to obtain that certificate or it is no more necessary?
Thanks and regards
September 12, 2017 at 12:52
Nothing more is needed. Congrats!
September 12, 2017 at 13:07
Thanks so much Simon, i only was afraid if that officer’s note still be inside the packed documents I am carrying with me to US and they ask for it in the airport.

I am from Morocco and I am a winner, too. People in Africa are really surprised from the visa bulletin since the cut off for November is 8600.So they advanced by 1000. Do you think they will stop in a low number this year. Usually they publish ” current” in juin or July. What do you think?
Thank you very much for alloting to reply.

Hi Tony. These number represent the number of cases they would interview or this represents case number. For example my case number AF25xxx. If it represents case number then how soon will the number get to range of 25000 ?
I am sorry i do not understand what the VB numbers represent. Kindly explains what these numbers are for.
Thank you

Thank you for the info. Totally makes senses.
September 11, 2017 at 06:46
Okay,
So, my case number is EU 17 XXX and I submitted the ds260 the last week of july, i.e. three months after the results came out. So I can face delay as well?
September 11, 2017 at 13:50
Wait and see.
September 11, 2017 at 14:45
Due to visa bulletin history, is it possible to delay to issued till the last days of the month?
September 11, 2017 at 16:56
I don’t understand what you are asking.
September 11, 2017 at 20:27
Based of previous years, can we expect the visa bulletin to be issued after 25th of the month?
September 11, 2017 at 21:02
No. Before the 15th.
September 10, 2017 at 23:59
Hi Simon,
thanks for all the updates n replies and also thanks to all those asking questions. they’ve helped alot.
Please I wish to clarify my thoughts.
I completed my DS260 form on August 26th and i have a case number 2018AF34XX. Now for the upcoming visa bulletin to be release this September, does my Case Number have a possibility of featuring despite the time range from when I completed my form?
September 11, 2017 at 03:31
Probably not. The late submission will cause a delay.
September 11, 2017 at 04:38
Hello,
I want to come to this question: “The late submission will cause a delay” but in the post about the ds260 processing changes there were priorities for the low case numbers despite late submission..
September 11, 2017 at 06:37
Yes, but your submission was EXTREMELY late considering the case number.
September 11, 2017 at 09:08
Meaning I could probably fall in the October VB?
Wow!! alright thanks so much Simon. I needed to be clear with this so not to keep myself all waiting like…. u know ?. I appreciate tho.
have a Blessed day.
September 11, 2017 at 13:59
Well, you have to wait and see. They changed processing this year, but we don’t know for sure how well that change is working in all cases.
September 10, 2017 at 22:10

Hi BritSimon
I have embassy interview schedule for oct 4

i found all the APPLICANT INFORMATION grid view duplicated.
what I mean is there is a copied lines for every person .on the IV
Application column the first status is completed and the second one says Start Now.
is that a technical problem or is it a normal procedure?
thank you
September 10, 2017 at 13:59
It’s happening to everyone – just ignore the second line.

September 8, 2017 at 08:22
Hi Simon
I am faced with a serious problem and want to know your opinion.
I am a 2017 DV-Lottery winner who was interviewed and is still in administrative process.
On September 8th, the U.S embassy in Yerevan-Armenia removed cleared DV-lottery cases from its website, although they had a deadline until September 25th; which is interpreted as the fact that the visa number allocation is finished and no visa will be issued for 2017 selectees.
Could you please express your opinion about this problem?
September 8, 2017 at 13:55
I have no idea about that.
September 7, 2017 at 18:01
Hello Mr brit my question is case numbers above 50 what is the chance for them
September 7, 2017 at 19:27

September 6, 2017 at 15:27
Is there a list of additional Winners in Green Card 2018 .. September
September 6, 2017 at 17:28
No
September 6, 2017 at 13:23
My interview has been scheduled in October 4 and my sponsor green card going to be expire during this month and he has already sent a request for renew, but his driving license is valid
My question
Is a copy of the driving license enough for the interview or a copy of the green card mandatory and it has to be valid?
Thanks
September 6, 2017 at 17:17
The Green Card can still be used. The LPR status doesn’t change, even if the card itself has expired.
September 6, 2017 at 02:08
Hello sir,
Has anyone denied visa till now due to lack of original birth certificates….
September 6, 2017 at 03:03

September 6, 2017 at 01:57
No
September 5, 2017 at 23:35
Hi Brit:
I got my visa at last-thank god- still waiting for my passport to be sent, and I really very grateful for your help all of time.
I have a question regarding the medical examination, as I did it on 27 April and it is supposed to be expired on 27 october, But Im afraid I wont be able to leave Cairo permanently before this date.
Am I supposed to do the medical examination again? If yes should I send it to the embassy or just take it with me and show it with the sealed envelop ?
Thanks for your time and consideration
September 6, 2017 at 00:08
You should contact the embassy and discuss asap. The visa issued with have an expiry date based on the medical expiry date – so perhaps they will let you retake the medical.
September 9, 2017 at 01:03
Dear Brit I received my passport today and -as you had told me- the expiration date is 27 October same as the medical examination, but i’m afraid mt PhD defense setting might be at end of this month
Now I have two options, I hope you can help me in choosing the best one:
1-Leave Cairo to US and stay there until i get my social number and green card, then return to Cairo for the defense setting within month.
2-wait until I have my defense setting then move permanently to the US, in this case what is the maximum date to leave?
Which option is the best in your opinion?
Thanks for time and consideration
September 9, 2017 at 01:45
You must enter the USA before the expiration of the visa, but you don’t have to stay – you can leave immediately.
September 5, 2017 at 16:56
Dear Simon,
Just a quick one here.
1. What if your baby will be born after you attend the final interview? Will he/she get Visa easily as the parents will be having valid Visa.
2. If not, how long will it take for the infant as Parents have to travel within 6 months from the date is visa issuance.

September 5, 2017 at 15:51
No impact.
September 4, 2017 at 17:57
Hi Brit.
1. I am selected for the DV2018. From your experience when do you think i would be called for an interview for my case AF25XXX ?
2. Me being the primary applicant would my wife require police report or is it only for the primary applicant ?
3. All the supporting document that need to be submitted at the interview are required for both the applicants (Husband and Wife) or the documents are required to be submitted for the primary applicant only ?
4. If all goes well and i have received my visa do i need to pay the USCIS immigrant fee ?
5. How much money do i carry with me to the interview ?
Would really appreciate your assistance. Thank you
September 4, 2017 at 22:35
