People are now receiving their 2NLs for October interviews – the first month of DV2017!! It will take a few hours – and possibly even a couple of days before all have gone out.
The email itself has no useful information. It simply tells you to check the ESC site for the interview details. Some people that receive the email will find the ESC site is not ready, those people should try again after a few hours. Also, some people find the email itself goes to a trash or spam folder or somehow miss it. So – if you think you may have been scheduled but missed your email, you can check the ESC site, just in case. The 1NL (you have been selected letter) is replaced by a new letter which gives the appointment details.
For those that received their interview notice, now is the time to start preparing for the interview. Gathering documents, scheduling the medical and so on. To learn how to prepare please view my guide on preparing for the interview.
If you have received your 2NL – please take a moment to reply to this post and add your region/case number range PLUS the date of submission and whether you unlocked at any point. This helps me gauge the backlog and DS260 processing times.
***Update**** Based on comments and feedback it seems that interviews have only been scheduled for cases (CURRENT CASES) that were submitted up to around late May. Some late May and most June submissions will not get an October interview, even if their case number is current. This is exactly as I predicted previously, so it is not a surprise. We can expect that “backlog” to continue to the next few months, and I will monitor the progress and update you as I can. Roughly speaking, I would expect those cases (CURRENT CASES!) submitted around late May to mid June to get November interviews, late June/early July submissions to get December and so on until the backlog is cleared.
Good luck for those of you in DV2017!!!

Greeting,
I am Temesgen from Ethiopia. My sister was selected for DV 2018. After the selection, when we check her names. there is an spelling difference what is filled in the DV form and her college deploma. As she is processing her passport for the first time, we can adjust her name according her name in the dv lottery. but the problem is it has one spelling difference between with her college deploma. YEMISRACH (Her college deploma certificate); YEMSRACH (her dv lottery name). Will that be the problem? Should we communicate her institution and correct her name in her deploma certeficate?. Thank you!
May 16, 2017 at 16:57
The DS260 should match the legal name (in birth cert or passport). If the diploma can be correct – that would be better.
May 16, 2017 at 17:40
Thank you very much, Brit!
October 15, 2016 at 12:49
Dear Simon,
I was selected in the DV2017 and we already went to our interview 2 weeks ago. I am Brazilian, but living in Germany and charging to my wife’s country, Russia. The officer in Frankfurt told us I made a mistake on the original DV entry form. They said I selected Germany as the country of birth, instead of Brazil. However, the country of chargeability was correctly selected as Russia. If I indeed made that mistake with the country of birth, it was not on purpose.
Anyway, the officer said they would review our case, but there was a 99.9% chance that we will be disqualified.
In your experience, would you be able to say whether disqualification is certain? Is there anything at all we could do in this case to perhaps influence the outcome?
Thank you in advance for your help!
October 15, 2016 at 14:19
I would say there is a chance of approval – far higher than the percentage he gave. The point is it is a technical mistake but it did not alter your chances of selection. I assume you accurately completed your DS260, so the background checks and police certs included Brazil. There is nothing to do but wait. The waiting could be a short period (where you would hear quite soon) OR a very long time – perhaps several months.

Hey Simon! Good news! We just got our passports back with the visa foil on them. We’ve been approved!
We’d like to thank you for all you do in maintaining this website and your dedication. We will make sure and donate something to your daughter’s treehouse fund! 🙂

Hellooo Brit
1)If my host is my uncle in the u.s do I need to show any supporting document at interview bc he also went as dv winner?
Plse giv me some knowledge.
September 24, 2016 at 13:30
If he is providing an I-134 he needs to provide copies of W2/1040 forms, Payslips, and ID showing his legal status to stay in the USA (Green Card)
September 20, 2016 at 19:40
I have a case number of EU10XXX and have now received the 2NLs for November interview. Thanks for all info
September 16, 2016 at 07:12
hi simon
nice job your doing mate my question is what are the chances of not winning 3 times in a row!!?
September 16, 2016 at 14:01
Very likely. The winning chance in Africa for instance is less than 1 in 100. So – someone could play 100 times in a row and never win, or win on the first try.
September 14, 2016 at 07:49
Hello brit
You so kind please are the 2draw started already because my brother didnt go through from the 1raw he didnt

September 14, 2016 at 00:56
Hi Brit
I wish to ask if do I need to do the payment of my visa fee the same day am having interview?
Or i had to pay it before the interview day??
September 14, 2016 at 01:30
You pay the interview fee of $330 per person on the day of the interview. If approved you pay a further $165 before entering the USA or shortly after.
September 13, 2016 at 16:43
Hello Brit simon..
I was selected from the 2nd draw of DV AF 2017 from the recently published visa bulletin for dv 2017..I wanted to ask you some questions; I am from Africa kenya, and for my education:
1.I studied the EDEXCEL SYSTEM Ie.The form 4,5 and 6.so will be a problem at the interview since according to kenya they ask for KCSE?
2.I have enough funds to financially support myself so do i need a Affidavit ie.the I-131 form?
September 13, 2016 at 21:58
1. I don’t know.
2. https://britsimonsays.com/all-about-public-charge-affidavit-of-support-i-134/
September 12, 2016 at 18:59
Brit, This is an awesome blog! Thank you and congrats! Quick Q: Is there anything to do after completion of DS260, other then waiting for 2NL?
September 12, 2016 at 19:10
Nope. You wait for the 2NL then get your documents together. If police certs need more than a few weeks you might start those before the 2NL
September 10, 2016 at 19:47
Hi Simon,
Finally, the visas are issued for my wife and I yesterday. Thank you for all your intelligent supports.
I have 5 questions if you don’t mind.
1- How can we apply online for SSN (and fee) and when?
2- Can I (main applicant) pay 2*165 USD for our green cards at the same time with my A-Number and DOS Case ID, or my wife should pay separately?
3- Can I pay the above fees from my RBC Canadian account credit card?
4- Can I open US account and apply for credit card with my passport when I get US (without SSN) ?
5- Is there anything else, but green card and SSN that I should apply now?
Thanks.
Regards, Iraj
September 10, 2016 at 21:51
1. If you chose the option in your DS260 they will arrive automatically once you enter the USA (after about 3 weeks). Otherwise you go to the ssa office.
2. Pay at the same time.
3. I don’t know. Try.
4. Some banks will open a bank account without an SSN. Some won’t.
5. No

September 8, 2016 at 03:20
Thank you for your v.fast reply as usual. My twins(a boy & a girl) are now two years and ten months old which means after two months they should be going to start KG. So my worry is whether to get them registered because if I do so and I got Visa with Gods wish i will not be refunded(school fees are very expensive here). And if I don’t get them registered on schedule of schools they might be staying at home the whole year,if we are not called for interview at all. Note:here in Ethiopia the new year starts on September 11.
September 8, 2016 at 03:26
You interview cannot be before November, and might not be in November. So – plan accordingly.
September 8, 2016 at 02:14
Hello Mr. Brit how are you and your family? I hope you are doing great. I have been following your posts and replies to those questions and have prepared myself as per your advice. My CN is AF2017****42** and submitted ds 260 on may 24th so couldn’t get an October interview according to your article. My question(worry) is that is there any chance or possibity i might not get a November interview? September 8, 2016 at 03:02
Why are you worried? You may get November, but maybe not. But it doesn’t matter if it takes a month longer.
September 7, 2016 at 03:26
Not sure if this information is still helpful to you, but my case number is 2017OC000001XX. I submitted my form on 1st June and have not received my 2NL. Fingers crossed for a November interview!
September 7, 2016 at 03:54

September 4, 2016 at 09:23
Hello Brit,
Based on my case number, like you advised before, my interview will be around february 2017. Is it too early to get my I-134 now or do I wait till later?
Also can I change address for my green card during interview or after visa is issued?
Thanks
September 4, 2016 at 14:47
1. Get the I-134 nearer the time.
2. You can change the address at the interview and again at the POE.
September 4, 2016 at 15:34
Thank you for the quick response.. really appreciate
September 4, 2016 at 08:48

All numbers are safe in DV2017.
September 6, 2016 at 12:15
Hi brit
All numbers ??
Nepal’s too??
September 6, 2016 at 15:02
All regions, but Nepal likely to have a final cutoff in place. We can only wait and see.
September 7, 2016 at 11:18
I am happy knowing that! !!
September 7, 2016 at 12:54
I deleted your non English posts, as I can’t verify what is being posted.
September 8, 2016 at 09:36
All number are safe in DV2016 or DV2017? Because DV2017 just starting.
September 8, 2016 at 16:33
The final DV2016 VB has already been published, all DV2016 cases should be scheduled for interview already and must be approved by the end of this month. So why are you asking if numbers are “safe”??
September 3, 2016 at 13:15
I am from Ethiopia
September 2, 2016 at 21:06
Hi britsimon I have 1 question can you tell me about Sweden embassy.are they strict like Ghana?
September 2, 2016 at 23:45
Not exactly, but when you interview at a foreign embassy they won’t know your documents, so then they will ask the embassy in your home country to check your qualification. If that home embassy is Ghana (because that is where you went to school), that can cause a problem. It certainly causes delay.
September 2, 2016 at 20:19
Hi Simon,
I just received my green card today. There is a error in it. My country of birth is wrong. I was born in Singapore but since I was staying in Nepal and my parents are both from Nepal, I chose the country of chargeability as Nepal. I found out later I should have chosen the country of chargeability as Singapore since I was born in Singapore. However my CO saw my passport and in my application that I was born in Singapore and still accepted during the interview and gave me the visa. I got my green card today and my country of birth is listed as Nepal rather than Singapore. I was told I need to complete an i90 form to sort out the matter. Do u think they could reject me, cancel my visa and send me back since they find out that my country of chargeability should be Singapore not Nepal. Lastly, based on your experience will I need to wait 3 months again to fix the information in the card? Thank you.
September 2, 2016 at 23:49
It is a rare scenario – so I cannot predict what will happen or how long it will take.
September 2, 2016 at 18:58
Dear Simon,
I would like to ask one thing: Is there such a thing as the earlier 260 submissions get the chance to interview and the late ones have less chance due to available visas are finished (because more people get the 1NL than the available visa number)? I hear all the time that people are suggesting each other to be quick to submit 260, why is that? Can you please let me know? Is this a “who is quick to submit” race?
I know you said unlocking will not shift my interview further, but I want to be on the safe side. Thank you again.
Best regards,
Svitlana
September 2, 2016 at 23:51
Please understand. If I tell you something, it is because I have weighed up the risks etc. I would not tell you to do it otherwise.
This year, there are enough visas for everyone who wants one/is qualified.
September 2, 2016 at 15:52
Brit Can You Tell Me About medical Treatment For DV ? i mean what we need to do in Medical ?
September 2, 2016 at 16:51
You just need to attend and let the doctor perform a physical examination. It is to check for diseases or conditions that may be a concern – not a fitness test!!!
September 2, 2016 at 11:54
Hi Brit,,,i now have 4 confirmation pages because i have unlocked my form ds-260 three times.
My question is which one of them should i send on my interview day.?
Thanks in advance.
September 2, 2016 at 13:50
Doesn’t matter which one.
September 2, 2016 at 09:07
Hi,Britsimon. I am Sushil(Dependent) from Nepal DV winner of 2017I would like to know, after getting notification within how many days or time we will get second letter.I have listened we will receive it within 30 days from getting notification.
And My next question is Current address of mine is same in my and my wife’s DS 260 But it differs in our son’s 260 form will it matters or not .DV winner is my wife .Waiting your suggestion and thank you.
September 2, 2016 at 14:01
2NLs (interview schedule) come about 6 or 7 weeks before the interviews.
The address for your son doesn’t matter.
September 2, 2016 at 07:22
Thanks, Britsimon. I would like to know how to recover confirmation and case numbers when misplaced. The guys who played the DV2017 for me have denied me those numbers only because of their own selfish interest. I don’t want to subject myself to their request. So please,, how can I retrieve my case number which I have been denied of?
Best regards.
September 2, 2016 at 14:07
You can use the lost confirmation number link on the Entrant status check page to retrieve your confirmation number – but you need to know some information including the email address that was on the application.
September 1, 2016 at 23:51
Has anyone got interview date yet who filled DS-260 after 7th May 2016?
Thanks,
Dipendra
September 2, 2016 at 01:29

September 2, 2016 at 03:31
Oh Sorry, I meant to say 7th June 2016, thats when I submitted my DS-260.
