People are now receiving their 2NLs for October interviews – the first month of DV2017!! It will take a few hours – and possibly even a couple of days before all have gone out.
The email itself has no useful information. It simply tells you to check the ESC site for the interview details. Some people that receive the email will find the ESC site is not ready, those people should try again after a few hours. Also, some people find the email itself goes to a trash or spam folder or somehow miss it. So – if you think you may have been scheduled but missed your email, you can check the ESC site, just in case. The 1NL (you have been selected letter) is replaced by a new letter which gives the appointment details.
For those that received their interview notice, now is the time to start preparing for the interview. Gathering documents, scheduling the medical and so on. To learn how to prepare please view my guide on preparing for the interview.
If you have received your 2NL – please take a moment to reply to this post and add your region/case number range PLUS the date of submission and whether you unlocked at any point. This helps me gauge the backlog and DS260 processing times.
***Update**** Based on comments and feedback it seems that interviews have only been scheduled for cases (CURRENT CASES) that were submitted up to around late May. Some late May and most June submissions will not get an October interview, even if their case number is current. This is exactly as I predicted previously, so it is not a surprise. We can expect that “backlog” to continue to the next few months, and I will monitor the progress and update you as I can. Roughly speaking, I would expect those cases (CURRENT CASES!) submitted around late May to mid June to get November interviews, late June/early July submissions to get December and so on until the backlog is cleared.
Good luck for those of you in DV2017!!!

Hi Brit,
Not current yet but I have a questions about unlocking our DS-260.
We submitted our DS-260 May 6, unlocked it on May 17th and locked it again on the same day.
Do you think this will postpone our upcoming interview date ? Case number is EU12xxx.
Thanks again !
August 24, 2016 at 15:18
No.
August 30, 2016 at 14:18
PLEASE I SUBMITTED MY DS-260 FORM ON 25 JUNE 2016 ITS POSSIBLE FOR ME TO BE SCHEDULE FOR OCTOBER VISA INTERVIEW
August 30, 2016 at 17:25
No. The article above makes that clear and explains why.
August 24, 2016 at 10:04
Hi Simon, our interview has been scheduled on 6th October. I have a question: can we change the address where we will receive a green card at POE? or it is better to change at Embassy?
Thank you
August 24, 2016 at 15:02
You can change it at the POE – but at the embassy is better.
August 24, 2016 at 20:21
Hi BritSimon,
are people still receiving 2NL’s today?
I’m just wondering if they’re already done for this month or if this process is still ongoing.
Any help is more than appreciated!!
CN: EU63XX
I submitted the DS-260 on May 31st and never unlocked.
I haven’t received my 2NL yet and I’m already nervous, because I hoped to have my interview in October.
Thank you so much BritSimon for everything you’re doing here!!
Tina
August 24, 2016 at 20:34
I don’t think any more 2NLs are going out for October interviews.
August 24, 2016 at 21:53
Can anyone tell me what unlocking means in this content and how to do it? A while ago just to check it, I opened my DS-260 form (expecting it to give me some kind of a summary page) but when I realized it opened the form itself, I immediately closed it without doing anything. Now I’m too afraid to open it again. Is it possible that I deleted something?
Thanks
August 24, 2016 at 21:58
If it said completed, it was locked. You couldn’t have altered anything while it was in that state. Unlocked means editable.
August 25, 2016 at 03:59
Hi Simon,
My case no is below 150 from Asia-Nepal and submit DS260 on may 27 and never unlocked but i didn’t got 2NL till now iam very afraid ..please advice why it was not coming ?…

Thank you Visu and wish you Gud-Luck ..
August 26, 2016 at 17:17
You should not be revealing your case number or asking others to do the same. Their case numbers are irrelevant to your case anyway.
August 27, 2016 at 09:58
HEY ASHA .. NO NEED TO WORRY. SIMON HAVE ALREADY EXPLAINED … MY CASE IS ALSO ABOUT 5xx FROM NEPAL . I DO HAVE SUBMITED MY ON 26TH MAY AND DINT RECEIVED 2ND LETTER … IT MEANS WE R A BIT LATE IN SUBMITTING DS260 .SO OUR INTERVIEW WILL BE SCHEDULED IN NOVEMBER .. DEFINITELY OUR 2ND LETTER WILL COME ON 22 OF SEPTEMBER OR AROUND .SO BE COOL…
August 25, 2016 at 04:07
Hi Simon, it’s been 2 months that I have lived in USA now. I am curious is it ok to open my medical details stored in the cd. Curious to see what it is, or will we need to show it sometime somewhere.
August 25, 2016 at 05:15
Of course you can – that is yours.
August 25, 2016 at 13:06
Brit, you’re my bible and I read you post (https://britsimonsays.com/does-unlocking-cause-delays/) really well… but I still don’t get why every time I call KCC they say “when you unlock, no matter how small the change, you push yourself to the end of the line”… Jeez!
August 25, 2016 at 14:34
If you read the responses on this post you will see people that submitted early May, AND UNLOCKED later, that received their 2NL while you will also read others that were submitted in late May or beyond and did NOT get their 2NL. That proves I am right, and what you were told is wrong.
August 25, 2016 at 14:32
I had a question for the medical examination, I would like to know when I should do as I have my intervieuw October 6.
August 25, 2016 at 15:25
Ask the doctor how much time they need to have the report ready.
August 25, 2016 at 15:07
yes I know you are right Brit, never doubted it. Just amazed how these guys can deliver so many discrepancies… I guess it’s because they outsource the calls to a team not actually working on the cases. these are the types of things that would be great to get insight into for this whole process…
August 26, 2016 at 02:41
Hi, our case nr is 2017AF000004XX, submitted our ds260 on the 21st of May and we didn’t receive a 2NL. Checked the website too. Really thought we would get an October interview, but will have to check it out again next month. Just wanted to give some info.
August 26, 2016 at 03:14
simon i have a question….do i have to complete any army letter when i enter in usa? i hear one friend talking about this….i have 4 months here and i dont sign any letter for army selective service system? is there any problem? thanks
August 26, 2016 at 04:03
If you are male under 26, yes you must register for selective service. Google it and complete the form online.
August 26, 2016 at 05:26
brit Sir can i unlock my DS 260 form after i receive my 2nd letter to add my new born child or i have to unlock it before.
August 26, 2016 at 17:18
Only before.
August 26, 2016 at 08:35
Hi Simon,
first of all I would like to thank you, you’ve been extremely helpful to me!!!
I have a question, my case no is EU14xxx, submitted on may 12th, do you believe my interview would be possibly scheduled in November or is it too early?
And also, what’s the percentage to get the green card once you’ve been selected?
Thank you so much
August 26, 2016 at 17:01
Typical number progression can be seen in the link below. As for the percentage, it depends on the case – so I don’t guess that way. If your case is qualified, genuine and you provide the right documents, you will get the GC.
https://britsimonsays.com/dv2017-basic-questions/
August 26, 2016 at 17:50
I thought I ran into the approval and rejection rates in one of your charts? Do we have any updated stats for this?
August 26, 2016 at 20:52
I did a league table once. I haven’t updated it, as it was just a bit of info. No need to be precise about it. Google Britsimon league table
August 26, 2016 at 21:37
Simon i have another questin….we moved from the address that we give for green card…what i have to do for change in new address for green card to come in new one? Thanks again
August 27, 2016 at 00:11
If you have already entered the USA, the delivery address for the GC cannot be changed.
August 26, 2016 at 22:20
Hi Simon
Thank you so much for the great job you are doing.
I am a DV2017 winner from Libya. The U.S Embassy in Morocco is specified for all Libyan winners. However, I need to travel to Tunisia to apply for Morocco Visa as the Embassy in Libya is closed since about one year. The Morocco Embassy in Tunisia usually refuses to give visas to Libyans. Under these circumstances it is almost impossible to attend the interview.
Is it possible to change the interview place?
Thanks
August 27, 2016 at 00:09
It is possible, but somewhat hit and miss. Find out where you can travel. If you are already scheduled, Check with that embassy that they will take you and then get Morocco to transfer your case. If you have not yet been scheduled, getting an address in that country will allow KCC to schedule at that embassy.
August 27, 2016 at 11:08
I thank you very much for your swift reply, just to remind you I am the Libyan who is getting difficulty to attend the interview in Morocco; the place which was specified by KCC for all Libyan selectees.
I have not been scheduled yet as I just fill in the DS 260 in 2nd August 2016. I can travel to Tunisia (no visa required for Libyans) or Egypt (easy to get visa). Both countries are neighboring countries to Libya; where there is an American Embassy. Questions are:
1- Should I contact KCC for possible change of the interview place? And then the American Embassy either in Tunisia or Cairo (Egypt) OR the other way round? I mean who I should contact first.
2- Can you please give more details about what you’ve said: getting an address in that country will allow KCC to schedule at that embassy? Do you mean a place in that country where the embassy can contact me or send me something? I can easily get an address.
Thanks
August 27, 2016 at 14:16
Thanks for giving me the context – but in future, please reply to my answers to keep the related conversation together.
OK – so since you are not yet scheduled the BEST procedure is to change your current address. KCC schedule the interviews based on the current address shown on the DS260. So – if you want to be interviewed in Tunisia for example, unlock the DS260 and provide an address as your current address. Then resubmit the DS260 and email KCC to ask them to note your new address and schedule the interview in Tunisia. Same thing if you choose Egypt. THAT is the best process, and will cause no delay at all. If you leave this until the interview is scheduled, you are certain to get a significant delay.
August 27, 2016 at 18:22
Hi,
Thanks Simon for your reply.
Sorry but you’ve missed to answer my first question, I am NOT scheduled yet so
1. Should I contact KCC for possible change of the interview place? And then the American Embassy either in Tunisia or Cairo (Egypt)
or
2. the other way round
Thank you very much for your patience.
August 27, 2016 at 20:33
I didn’t miss the question at all. My answer is what you should do.
August 30, 2016 at 00:01
Hi Simon
thanks a lot for being easy-going with people.
I am a DV2017 winner, I’ve already did submit the DS 260 on 2nd of August 2016. I get confused when reading others post. some are considering June as late submission. Questions are:
1-what is exactly the time limit after which we can say late submission? what are the effects of late submission?
2- Is it correct that when you unlock, no matter the reason, you push yourself to the end of the line?
3- If someone submitted his DS260 in June 2016, Unlocked in July 2016 and resubmit in August 2016; which date will be considered as the submission date?
thanks
August 30, 2016 at 00:36
1. Well don’t forget their are two years being processed at most time. DV2016 cases don’t end until September 30,, so some of the conversations might relate to DV2016. A June 2016 submission for a DV2016 case would be VERY late – but still just about possible to get an interview. For a DV2017 case June is only “late” in comparison to a early May submission. The effects are discussed in the article above – some cases that expected to be interviewed in October will be delayed. That’s all – just a little delayed.
2. No. https://britsimonsays.com/does-unlocking-cause-delays/
3. June. However, read the article in point 2.

Hello Simon,
Is it better to take your money in cash ? or deposit on one of the banks in your country.?
August 28, 2016 at 14:20
Take money to where. To the interview? The USA? A nightclub?
Be specific.
August 28, 2016 at 15:04
Ahhh Sorry,
Take money with me to USA.
And Also, when applying for a job, my degree in Algeria is an engineer degree which is an advanced degree (Bac +5) , but sometimes the suggestions are high school diploma, associate and master or PHD degrees. Can I choose Master degree or will this be lying ?
August 28, 2016 at 18:22
Bank transfer is wiser. Google britsimon moving money.
I don’t know where your degree is masters level or not.
August 28, 2016 at 19:34
It’s a bac +5, in France it’s better than a Master degree, they are both BAC +5, but Only the best universities are entitled to give that kind of Degree.
That says that u studied on the best universities .
August 29, 2016 at 03:45
So – you know more than I do about your degree – use your own best judgment!
August 28, 2016 at 15:00

Hello Brit.
My CN is AF38XX. Submitted on 15/08/16. When do you reckon I’ll receive my 2NL

Read the article.
August 29, 2016 at 02:19
Hi simon,
I paid and applied for my green card 2 months and 1 week ago. Today when i checked my case status with my receipt number, it stated that On August 24, 2016, we began producing your new card. It said new card, but its actually my first card since I am a 2016 dv winner. But anyways, based on your experience, how long may it take to get my green card in mail? like 1 week or 2 week etc. Thanks,
August 29, 2016 at 03:21
3 to 4 months from both entry/payment being done (whichever is later).
August 29, 2016 at 03:30
Hi Simon ,
my Case number AF2XXX , I submitted my application on 10 Jun , unfortunately , I haven’t received 2NLs but from my reading to your article & comment . Hopefully , I can receive it by next month for November interview . I have been applied for CANADIAN PR two years ago & I just received request for passport stamping . So it seems that we are going for US interview with passports stamp with Canadian visa for PR , Is this may affect on the decision for US green card approval ? I am afraid that if US officer knew that we have already approved for CANADA PR , he reject our case for that reason
August 29, 2016 at 03:37
No problem.
August 29, 2016 at 03:54
Thank you Simon for reply , I would like to maintain my both status- . my plan is complete 3 years in Canada to obtain Canadian passport ( as per the new law) after I relocate to US . I can apply for 2 years reentry permit after I got my green card . During my stay in CANADA , I will have occasional visits to US. Another plan , is to leave my wife & kids in CANADA till they you obtain passports & after I bring them to US
What do you think ? Is it possible?
August 29, 2016 at 05:16
Your plan is risky.

I have s question I’m the winner of 2017 lottery case number AS15xx
Actually I don’t have diploma but I have 14 years telecom background and I got all the related those years certificate and confirmation latters from the company which I working on right now, so my question is I am qualified and any chance for me to get the visa and green card? Or not? 🙁

Hi Simon,
I have 3 questions for you. my wife and I got married this gone December and she want to add me to her program. Is she permitted to do so or go alone? And also if I am added to her program can I go for a visit in America and come back before our number be cutoff? And if it happens will I be permitted to interview for the DV program?
August 30, 2016 at 18:33
1. Yes that is permitted. https://britsimonsays.com/marital-status-getting-married-dv-lottery-process/
2. Yes
3. Yes
August 30, 2016 at 21:40
Hi dear Simon, I should thank you so much for your patience as I have read most of the questions and your usefull replies since last May. I lived and studied in the UK in late 1970, now do you think I need to have a police report of UK about me on the day of my interview?!
August 31, 2016 at 00:14
Probably. Get one anyway.
August 31, 2016 at 06:18
thanks
August 31, 2016 at 09:07
Hi Simon and many thanks for all your very usefull work !!
I’m waiting for my 2NL but still wondering how sending date of DS-260 impact date of interview
(this is really mystical even with your articles ^^)
I’m now current (CN : EU0002xxx) have sent my DS-260 on july 4th but nothing is coming…
I’ve also sent DS-2001 to Ambassy in Paris last week to ensure that i’ve fully respected the process.
Are second letters sent continually or only in one wave each month ?
Thanks again and Good luck to every 2017 winners !
(if you have an idea of when i could receive my letter or be interviewed, let me know ^^)
August 31, 2016 at 09:14
Sorry did’nt saw your ***Update****
this is really clear now ! ^^
August 31, 2016 at 12:20

August 31, 2016 at 19:12
First of all thank you very much for answering to all questions with patience. my case number is EU 54xx, but i haven’t received 2NL yet. Does it mean my interview will be in november, though our region case number range is 8500? thank you very much.
August 31, 2016 at 19:56
Well, your interview won’t be in October. Please read the article above that explains why. As to when it will be, that depends when you sent in your DS260 – but again – explained above.
September 1, 2016 at 07:21
Hi Brit,
I submitted ds260 on 25th ,that time I printed “Immigrant visa and Alien Registration Application confirmation” page ..
Unlocked and submitted on 27th but not printed that page..Again unlocked and submitted on June 2ND printed that page.
1)My querry is do i need to submit all times confirmation page or is it OK if I submit the final submission confirmation page?
2) If needed to submit then is there any solution to print the 2ND time submission confirmation page?
Please do suggest..Thanks
September 1, 2016 at 14:05
1. Confirmation page.
2. Review it again and print it.
September 1, 2016 at 18:17
Hi dear Simon,
would you please say a little more on your answer above?
I thought printing only the first confirmation page was enough..
I unlocked the DS 3 times but printed only the first one..
So are you saying that one needs to print out the confirmation pages everytime after unlocking??

Stop overthinking it. Print a confirmation page – it doesn’t matter which one.

When i fill DS-260 Form in part case number i filled it with zero’s , like this
