People are now receiving their 2NLs for September interviews, it will take a few hours – and possibly even a couple of days before all have gone out.
The email itself has no useful information. It simply tells you to check the ESC site for the interview details. Some people that receive the email will find the ESC site is not ready, those people should try again after a few hours. Also, some people find the email itself goes to a trash or spam folder or somehow miss it. So – if you think you may have been scheduled but missed your email, you can check the ESC site, just in case. The 1NL (you have been selected letter) is replaced by a new letter which gives the appointment details.
These interviews are the final batch of 2016. If any DV2016 winner does not get their 2NL within a day or two they need to contact KCC asap and check why they have not been scheduled.

Hi Brit,
My wife and I want to express our profound gratitude for your hard work and generosity. We’ve learnt so much over the past 10 months that we were convinced our interview was gonna be a slam dunk, but here we are in “AP Zone”!!
The interview was in Cotonou a couple of days ago. After paying and submitting documents a lady called my wife (who is the main applicant) to a window and asked her where she took her high school exam. she answered and was asked to go sit (later on during the interview I found a stamp on paper that read “BAC is genuine”). Few minutes later the CO called her alone (we were prepared for this cause they conduct Stock interviews in Cotonou)
CO: when did you both meet?
She: Answered
CO: When and where did you get married?
She: Answered
CO: where do you live?
She: Answered
CO:Do you live together?
She: Answered
CO: Call your husband!
While she was being questioned, my wife noticed the CO called a lady, African, probably from Bénin and from their gesture she taught he was asking her a question pointing on the mariage cert. The lady appeared not to know the answer or have the information he requested.
CO: When did you meet your wife?
Me: Answered
CO: When and where did you get maried?
Me: Answered
CO: Why there?
Me: I used to work there … I can provide proof of that (I had my payslip from back then and a reference letter from an American international NGO I worked for there)
CO: No, I don’t need it
CO: Call your wife
Then he begins to type on his computer endlessly, calls the same lady for some paper and showed her the mariage cert again, and she appeared not to have answers to his questions. He began to return originals except the mariage cert and bam!! he gave us our passports back. I can’t describe the feeling.
He types again for some minutes and gave us the AP paper.
CO: We need time to further etc etc etc …
Me: If our relationship is the issue, we have further evidence we would like to show you.
CO: No we don’t have time for that today (and really there were too many people. Some had to be rescheduled for the afternoon)
Me: As you said we are towards the end of the fiscal year and our local administration is very slow. If you need any other documents we’d be happy the provide them ASAP.
CO: As I said this is a … … procedure and I can’t tell you what is wrong. We will contact you.
Me: Thank you sir!!
I felt like I gained a tonne during the interview, I could hardly move!! But eventually we found our way out.
1) Do you have any comments concerning the interview itself?
2) We believe from what we saw that the CO had some concerns regarding the mariage cert. Do you share that view? If you do any advice?
3) Do Consulates sometimes “expedite” interviews by putting cases they deem “plausible” on AP so as to conduct thorough interviews later when they are “less busy”?
4) If we are scheduled for another interview, will the status online necessarily change from AP ready? Or stay on AP?
5) The mariage cert is OBVIOUSLY genuine, can they just deny us because they didn’t have enough time to convince themselves?
6) If yes, what do we do next time we are applying for a US visa and are requested to show proof of mariage?
Thanks again for your support!! It means a lot to many!!!
August 11, 2016 at 17:19
1. No.
2. Yes, the concern in the interview was obviously about the marriage. Did you marry after the DV win? Now, the reason you are on AP, might be to do with the marriage, or it could be something else. There is no way to tell unless they gave you a paper with a reason. But, they would normally ask for more documents if it was something about the marriage.
3. Not normally, no
4. I don’t know how this particular embassy will handle the case.
5. It isn’t just a question of the certificate itself. Someone could have got married to take advantage of the DV win. So – that would be a real certificate for a fraudulent marriage. The questions were designed to see if your marriage was genuine. But yes, if they have doubts, they can deny you. It is up to their discretion, with no appeal process.
6. Prove the relationship as well as the marriage, photos, proof of trips together, emails, proof of phonecalls and so on.
August 12, 2016 at 07:59
The mariage was before the DV win and we had all you mentioned and even more (retirement plan together, medical insurance, etc …). When we proposed to show the CO, he said they didn’t have time for that on that day. I even wanted to provide evidence for a question he asked me and he said NO!!
According to the department of state website “If denied, you will be informed why you are ineligible to receive a visa”, so if the AP lasts till the end of the FY they will have to invite us to tell us why we were denied.
Am I right? Also because CO kept original of our mariage cert.
August 12, 2016 at 14:28
They don’t have to re-interview you to inform you if you are denied. They might, they might not.
August 11, 2016 at 15:32
GC Approved. I can’t believe it. Thanks for this informative website.

August 11, 2016 at 13:17

August 11, 2016 at 09:56
I had my interview today , the consular has given me an AP letter , he has not told me any document to send , he has only kept the original documents of my work experience so does that mean that are checking them .
August 11, 2016 at 13:19

August 10, 2016 at 15:45
Hi Mr. Britsimon,

hi Mr simon
I passed successfully my interview in august,8 when i checked my status yesterday it was ready but to day it becames Administration processing so please tell me what is happening with my case .
2 my friend had passed his interview successfully in July 28 and he still undergoing administration processing is it normal
3 another friend had passed successfully his interview inaugust,1 after 4 days his status changed to issued .
when i say successfully means the consular officer says congratulations your visa is approved .
and all the three passed their interviews in algeria .
explain to me plz I’m so confused
August 10, 2016 at 14:12
I just answered your earlier question.
Usually, the status after a successful interview shows AP, but that is only for a day or two. If the status is STILL in AP after a week or so, then it is likely that some period of AP is needed. Please read the blog, I have written about this many, many times.
August 10, 2016 at 14:46
thank you so much for your help i appreciated
August 10, 2016 at 18:52

August 10, 2016 at 14:03
No, that is common. It shows AP for a day or two and then turns to issued.
August 9, 2016 at 20:58
Dear Brit
I want to take this opportunity to thank you sir for your good work. I also want to say that this website has educated me along to understand the process of getting a a diversity visa. it helped prepare my documents as required and when i attended the interview in Nairobi on 4th I was so happy when the consular officer said a yes and told that I had got my visa approved for processing. yesterday my passport and visa package is ready to be picked.
I cant thank you enough. may God continue to bless you with a abundant life and many blessings to your family. I am now preparing to travel before the end of September.
August 10, 2016 at 00:06
Good luck with the move!
August 9, 2016 at 10:08
Hello Sir, since in went for my interview on 28th June, i and my wife was placed on administrative processing, the consul said she cant make a conclusion base on my statement of result, as such i ask my university to prepaire my transcript, we have taken it to the ebbassy here in Freetown Sierra Leone, after two days i emailed to know if they have received it, the said yes and my case is with the consul officer for review, and uptill now they havent called and my CEAC update is still AP.
What can i do sir as september 30 is arount the coner and visa might be finished before the end.
August 9, 2016 at 14:46
You can’t do anything apart from wait for their decision.
August 9, 2016 at 08:22
Hi Simon,
thank you for your great website and all the help you are offering! I have a question for you, if I may. I am a DV2016 selectee, European and my case number is 23XXX. I submitted my DS260 quite late (for various reasons), that is on the 27th July 2016. My question is: do I stand a chance to get an interview either in August or September or am I one of the “wait and see” cases? Actually, do they even interview people from the DV2016 in September? I would have thought that they would call me since Europe has been current in the July and August bulletin.
On a similar note, in case I get called for an interview, would I be able to get interviewed in the US? I will be visiting my sister over in America so I am not sure I could get interviewed there since I will be entering as a tourist?
Thank you very much in advance for your help and answers!
August 9, 2016 at 14:53
I think there is almost no chance at all that you will get interviewed. You submitted FAR too late.
August 9, 2016 at 16:24
I thought that I might stand a chance since I read some of the comments here in your website where a lady submitted on the 6th July and got her 2NL on the 22nd July. Is there any way for me to find out? Thank again!
August 9, 2016 at 20:53
You can call KCC.
August 8, 2016 at 19:41
Hi britsimon I have one question when my husband filled the dv lottery he used his last year photo. Is this create a problem ?
August 8, 2016 at 20:09
It can create a risk. But if the photo is recent the risk is low.
August 8, 2016 at 19:06
Hi Britsimon,
Thanks for your help my friend.
My visa is approved on 31 July and yesterday the status is updated but it’s still ready.
Please what is mean with many thanks..
August 8, 2016 at 20:10
Just means they haven’t changed the CEAC status – not really a problem.
August 8, 2016 at 18:25
Hi simon,
I have two questions for you my bro. 1. It is possible to put your family on your program and send for them later, or if you are to send for them later will they attend the interview with you? 2. what is the remedy if your affidavit posted by mail from your sponsor doesn’t reach on time? will the embassy accept the scan copy that was send to you through email?
August 8, 2016 at 20:12
1. To process them via the DV program you interview with them. It is possible to not process through DV, but it takes longer (2 years) costs more and is more complex.
2. Yes they might accept the scan.
August 8, 2016 at 15:02
My daughter had get greencard
When did she will take us
What are procedure to go ?
August 8, 2016 at 16:13
She must become a citizen of the USA first – that takes 5 years. Then she could sponsor you to obtain a Green Card.
August 8, 2016 at 14:59
hi simon
thanx sooo much for all your efforts, thanks in the beginning and end to allah.
i was put on ap and now my status turns to issued ^-^
just wondering how long it took to receive a call from the embassy
i know the isn’t granute till on hand??!
August 8, 2016 at 16:14
A week or two.
August 8, 2016 at 08:59
Hi Brit , thanks for helping and contributing the well being of the people regardless of thier ethnicity and continent ,
I would like to ask , is it ok if i also submit an a work experience and education documents which i have not filled of the DS20?
For documents how many copies do i need to make , is it ok ? if i make one copy for each and every document (education , work experiences , affidavit support and birth , police certificate , 1st and 2nd letter , confirmation of DS20 , panel of health documents)
August 8, 2016 at 14:19
Take any documents you want, and 1 copy of each important document is enough (described in the instructions).
August 8, 2016 at 06:50
Hello brit sir,
I have been selected this year on the lottery which was my second attempt. On my first try on 2016 dv I had two vital mistakes bcoz i didnt had idea about how to fill application accurately at that time. my mistakes were
1) On the qn. whether claiming eligibility based on country I was born i selected No. It happened only bcoz I already selected my country below this qn. which You have to select only if you are not claiming based on country of birth. And you know after this you cannot make the answer yes .
2)On highest education level I selected high school No degree because I thought High school degree meant high school with some technical course. although I later knew that I was wrong and confused betn High school degree and No degree.
So sir as you said they assess your previous applications too. What can be the possible effects?
August 8, 2016 at 14:25
Your post is very unclear – so I can’t tell what you are asking – but if you got the chargeability wrong that can disqualify your case.
August 8, 2016 at 15:12
Sor sir for my poor english but What I wanted to ask was these mistakes were on previous year application and that year I was not selected. This year I have done it accurate and am selected too .so I was asking if that previous year error affects me.
On case of chargeability the mistake was : I selected country of birth Nepal. But In question asking are You claiming chargeability by country of birth i selected No and then on question which country do you claim eligibility I answered Nepal again.
That year I also filled high school No degree due to confusion in our educational system which later I found was wrong answer…
Really sorry only wanted to know do these previous year mistakes matter or not?
August 8, 2016 at 16:12
I don’t think the previous mistakes will matter, and the chargeability mistake should be OK.
August 8, 2016 at 06:24
hello dear brit
Q1 if a 2017 DV winner get his 2NL in august 2017 and done his interview in September 2017 then the embassy put him in AP for Example for 5 months .. will his visa will issue in 2018 ?? or he will disqualify from this processes ??
or Can a DV 2017 winner travel to USA in 2018 or he must travel in 2017 ???
tanx in advance
August 8, 2016 at 14:27
No case can be approved after September 30 for each year, so any case on AP after that time is disqualified.
A winner is given a visa with validity of up to 6 months – so some DV2017 winners will enter in 2018
August 7, 2016 at 22:20
Good day Sir,
I would like to thank you indeed for the great job and good knowledge of DV program that help million of people around the world to understand the system of DV program and to go through, and the most thankfull between those million is my self.
I went to my interview last wednesday at Muscat August 3rd 2016 and went through the security check then they collect my documents and wait for some time for my interview, it was very direct question and the officer was so kind with even he give me and my family some advises when we reach USA. After he finish he didn’t told us if we pass he just said they will be some background check and then waiting for approval.
At that day i check CEAC web site for any update but still showing ready then the next day show AP untill afternoon then it changed to issued. So as per the officer he says that the embassy will contact you next week for the update.
I believe after the status shown “Issued” there is nothing to worry about its matter of time and embassy process to prepare the visa and the package??? Right??
Again thank you very much Simon for the effort and patience that you held it without getting angry or mad at anyone on the blog and for understanding the panic that get to us as DV selectee to complete our process. GOD BLESS YOU SIR.
August 8, 2016 at 14:37
Just a matter of waiting – but celebrations begin when you are holding the visa in your hand!
May 17, 2017 at 23:32
Hello,
Hope you got your visa.
May I ask about the requirements in Muscat embassy please?
August 6, 2016 at 19:12
Dear Brett Simon to you thanks again.Today I received their visa stamped Passport Alhamdulillah
August 6, 2016 at 17:24
Any applicants from Tanania here?
Anybody used a photo more than 6mo old in their initial E-DV entry and ended up getting rejected a visa because of that?
August 6, 2016 at 13:42
Hi Simon, thank you for the very informative blog. My husband won DV2017 and we put together all the documentation. We come from Italy, case number EU000005XX. My husband does have an high school diploma and our police certificates are immaculate. We would go to the States to set up a branch of an Italian business there so we’ll keep wages from Italy and the company will cover our relocation expenses. Do we need an affidavit of support as well? About documentation will us get a new list along with the 2NL or is the regular list for Naples sufficient?
Hey folks, any other winner from Italy? I guess I’ll meet some of you at the interview
August 6, 2016 at 14:34
If you work in the USA, you will need to be paid in the USA, and pay taxes there. So, the plan sounds a bit flawed. Plan on showing savings or an I-134.
Read the dvselectee instructions and check the embassy specific page. There are very few cases from Italy, so the chances are you will be the only DV cases on your interview day.
August 6, 2016 at 15:09
So you think prove of enough savings would be sufficient in our case?
August 6, 2016 at 15:13
Yes – read this.

August 6, 2016 at 13:04
Hello mr Simon, is it bad for some one to activate his green card on american land after his dv visa has expired?cause my friend s visa will expire by the end of the month and is not yet ready to activate it before the visa can expire.
August 6, 2016 at 14:35
Then he will disqualify himself. It can’t be extended.
August 5, 2016 at 21:01

August 5, 2016 at 22:30

August 5, 2016 at 11:40

August 5, 2016 at 14:34
It doesn’t indicate pass or failure… but yes some physicians provide a CD.
August 4, 2016 at 21:53
My Status is Now issued, does this mean that I officialy got my visa and I just have to wait 10 days to get it ? or I should wait my passeport to celebrate
August 4, 2016 at 23:52
It’s basically done – but I always tell people to hold the celebrations until they have the passport.
August 4, 2016 at 18:38
Does Nairobi embassy ask for affidavit support of 1-134 ?
August 4, 2016 at 20:46

August 4, 2016 at 18:46

August 3, 2016 at 15:44
Yes it sounds like they have placed you on AP. I don’t know how long that will take.
August 2, 2016 at 23:58
Hello dear brit. First I ll like to thank you for your tiredless effort in maintaining this blog. My interview was today at Ankara embassy in Turkey. After my interview, the CO told me I Will be placed on AP for some more check on my documents and they ll return to me in a week, I was on my way back to the city I live in when about 4 hours after my interview, the embassy sent me an email requesting me to send my passport to the embassy through post for visa issuance. I checked on CEAC and realized that on the same day my status change from ready to AP and ready again. Tomorrow first thing I ll mail my passport to the embassy to get my visa. Thanks once more and happy to be done with all this stress.
August 3, 2016 at 02:55
Sounds encouraging!
August 2, 2016 at 18:00
Hi Simon
After agonizing 6 months I submitted my 1-134 form and irs forms today. My interview was scheduled 1st week of march 2016 srilanka , Put on AP since for missing Sponsor form. I did my medicals on 02.16.2016. My Question is simon. Sorry if I have asked you.
Would this delay cause you lack of visa available to issue me residency? I heard from almost all Srilankans that Srilanka embassy takes only 5 business days to issue visa
Medical done in 02.16.2016- So 08.16.2016 is the expiry right ?
Regards
Help Me
August 2, 2016 at 22:52
You will almost certainly miss the expiry date and IF approved, you will need to repeat the medicals. Given that you waited 6 months to submit the I-134, there may be doubt about your relationship with the sponsor. So – you can only wait and see what they decide.

August 4, 2016 at 23:23
Just in case if they tell me to to do the medicals, will I loose my allocated visa # . I am worried
August 4, 2016 at 23:46
Contact the embassy! Ask them about the medical.
August 5, 2016 at 18:36
Hi Simon they emailed me today ,they told me they will let me know by next week on my medical examination. Should I worry. Would this delay cause my visa # to loose
August 5, 2016 at 22:31
Does your worrying change anything? Relax and wait for their instruction.

If you want to….
August 15, 2016 at 16:06
Hi simon, I got an email from the embassy, It says your CASE has been APPROVED. Please submit your medicals at your earliest possible. Does it mean I have passed all the obstacle since march and the only pending for my visa issuance is the medicals.
August 16, 2016 at 03:52
Probably!
August 2, 2016 at 13:52
Hae Brit am realy deversitated ,my visa interview was today and the consular gave me yellow paper writen refused because I had no clarification from the exam board knec in Kenya so she told to go to exam offices so they would send it thru dhl for my case to continue what do I do since she gave me back the passport ?
August 2, 2016 at 23:01
Did you not take any proof???
IF the CO gave you a refusal with a refusal type of 221(G), that means you have a chance to provide missing documents.
August 3, 2016 at 05:36
Year I went to the exam body knec and they are sending there confidential results tomorrow.the co gave me a 221g to provide those documents from the exam body .bt am clean about them its only that he doubted my result slip bt it was real.so how long will it take after they get the documents?am I on ap or what coz I was given my passport back.my interview was in nairobi Kenya and my case is a DV 2016.

August 1, 2016 at 19:32
hello sur britismon my sponsor send me the forms (i-134 + 1040 + 1099) not w2 is it right with 1099 the consul will not refuse me 🙁 plz plz answer me and i have a bank account with 6000$
August 1, 2016 at 20:54
The 1099 is OK. A W2 is for an employee, self employed people might show a 1099
August 2, 2016 at 21:41
Algerian Ambassy accept i-134 + 1040, and the I-134 can even be scanned.
August 2, 2016 at 22:31
If people want the BEST chance of passing, they should base their ideas on the experience of LOTS of people, as opposed to one person (even one very well intentioned person). So – in my recommendation I always suggest using a mailed I-134 (because COs have been known to reject scanned ones) and for supporting documents I recommend 1040/W2/Payslips/Photo ID.
August 2, 2016 at 22:39
I agree.
On that note….can a sponsor use a drivers licence for photo ID?
I believe that if we all get the required documents and information ready for our interview then we should expect a positive reault.
Btw….what can one use to show for work experience besides a resume?
August 3, 2016 at 10:02
I know that It’s better to be super prepared and have all the documents, but we were about 30 persons and they all had their i-134 scanned.
August 3, 2016 at 15:43
I have dealt with thousands of people – and I know that in some cases the scanned document will not be accepted. There is a reason for that (to do with the original signature) so that is why I give the advice that I do…
August 4, 2016 at 15:02
I know, And I followed all your advices and got the I-134 Mailed, but he didn’t send me the W2 and I couldn’t contact him since he was on holidays and the letter arrived 4 days before the interview.
Anyway thank your very much for all what you’re doing and at the Ambassy most of people were talking about your website and how it helped them. And a guy told me that the first thing that he’ll do is donating 50$ for you. Well I can’t afford it but hope that one day I can give you back what you did.

Hi Simon,
First I would like to thank you for all what u’re doing us.
I Got my interview today ” Algerian Ambassy ” And my Visa was approved El Hamdolilah.
They were very kind and asked me some basic questions:
Do you have the baccalaureate ?
What did you do after that ?
Do you have any family in the USA?
Then, “CONGRATULATION” your visa is approved.

Hi Britsimon i have a question that is disturbing me.. in the ds 260 i filled my mothers name for example as jasmine mary okello(which is written so on her ID) and okello is the family name and surname of my father… instead of jasmine mary atieno(which is written on my birth certificate)… Can this bring problems in the future when wanting to invite my mother to the states or during my interview which is this month?
August 1, 2016 at 14:07
F not during theinterview. Perhaps later, but you can deal with it then.
August 1, 2016 at 02:29
Dear Mr Brit,
I want to know if my brother won the DV earlier on 2006 and he is US citizen now and I’m selected on 2017, is there any restriction to reject my case?
August 1, 2016 at 02:59
Because of your brother – of course not.
August 1, 2016 at 16:24
Sorry, I don’t understand, you mean won’t be eligible for interview because of my brother won early DV
August 1, 2016 at 17:42
No – I mean his case has nothing to do with your case.

I have a question about the I-134 form. Can the person just fill out the section about the annual salary and not all the information on bonds and stock and life insurance and property?
also, what if that person sends two pay slips and a copy of the W2 form? will this be enough information?
and finally, can one person fill the form on behalf of two people….like a husband and wife?
I really need these questions answered.
August 1, 2016 at 00:53
1. Salary only is fine (but must exceed federal poverty guidelines.
2. That, plus photo ID.
3. One form covers the selectee and the derivatives of the selectee.

August 2, 2016 at 21:44
Thanks.
I have nother question…or may I say I need some clarifiction.
I filled out my DS260 form on May 6…but I did not include my daughter because she does not want the grren caed however I relised that we must include all the information whether or not the person is travelling Or not. So I went back and completed the form on june 13….and finally it is closed. My question. Is will that affect the time of my intwrview date? My number is 2017SA14x. I know that we would have been in october for the first batch but because I entered the information one month later do you think we might be called in november or maybe latwr october?
August 2, 2016 at 22:35
I doubt it will have caused a delay – but whether it does or not, doesn’t really matter… delayed is better than denied!
August 6, 2016 at 07:37
I’m dv2016 winner and my interview is on September ,,
1) Do I need the I-134 ??
2) How does the interview look like ?? What are the common questions ??
3) Any good hints (tips) for the CO in Cairo ?? Anybody here from Egypt ??
August 6, 2016 at 14:42
1.I recommend it, although Cairo rarely ask for it. However, since you interview in September it is best to be over prepared.
2. Trivial questions, you don’t need to prepare.
3. Just prepare your documents according to the instructions.
July 31, 2016 at 21:14
Ok but do you know of cases where the consul said that the record is good and that after the visa is not granted ??
OR even situations where we spend AP to ready when your file was OK in the interview ??
August 1, 2016 at 00:55
People are sometimes placed on AP after being told their case was approved in the interview. The visa is only for certain when it is in your hands.
July 31, 2016 at 18:49
Hello BRIT.
I have three questions
I did it July 20 interview, the consul told me that it’s OK and he will call me as soon as my visa is ready to come off my passport.
1) Is the one who was the consul said that it still can not grant him a visa (Note that my passport is kept labas consulate)
On July 20, after my interview my status was ready 27 what happened PA and 29 it is back ready to update the 30 always ready (Note that those with whom I made the interview that i was ready on 20 and PA 27 are past Issued 29).
2) What can this mean?
3) Should I worry ???
Thanks
July 31, 2016 at 19:25
You may be on AP – I can’t tell. All you can do is wait.
