OK – a few people have been asking the normal question of when the 2NLs are sent. So – a few points about the 2NLs which you may find useful.
- Generally the 2NLs are sent out about 1 to 2 weeks after the VB is published. KCC will generally say by the end of the month.
- The 2NL is an email. The email itself has no information about your case or interview. It simply says that you have been scheduled for an interview and you should check the ESC website. This is the website where you saw the 1NL – which is the “you have been selected” letter. It does not matter therefore if you do not have access to your email account.
- Some people that go current will NOT get their 2NL in the month they get current. This is because cases can only be scheduled for interview once the DS260 is processed. The processing is done after you submit the DS260 and is some background checks they perform. That means some DS260s will not be processed in time for the scheduling of interviews.
- The amount of time that it takes to process the DS260 varies from case to case and over the course of the year. Last year, early cases were taking 4 to 5 months to process, meaning that many people that had submitted even as early as June were not scheduled for October interviews.
- If your case is delayed because your DS260 was submitted late, you won’t lose your chance – you simply get scheduled in the next monthly batch once your DS260 background checks are completed.
- I don’t know how far KCC have got with processing DS260s. So I cannot say whether your case can be scheduled or not. It is best to wait and see. Whilst you can call KCC to check if your form is processed. Time they spend answering those calls is time they are not spending processing forms and scheduling interviews – so unless you have specific reason – please don’t call them.
- The relatively high numbers for this first VB of the year tell me that there are many cases not yet processed – either because there are processing delays OR because people have not submitted. This means that interview places in later months will be taken up by these “backlog” cases – repeating the pattern we saw in DV2015. That will mean lower VB increases in future months.

On October 21, 2014 I filled in the original entry form of the DV lottery, 2016. I submitted all the information as it was written in my passport. In answer to the question, “What is the highest level of your education?”, I selected “University Degree”. Actually I have completed 14 years of education. In Afghanistan we call this a graduate of 14 years. This would be equivalent to an “associate degree” in the USA. When I was informed of my acceptance in the DV Lottery of 2016, I checked all my responses on the internet. I found that the “associate degree” is considered equivalent to “some university degree” according to US law. After that i filled in the form Ds 260 that I am an associate degree. What do you think is it a big problem for me?

They don’t care what degree you have. What they care about is that you met the high school requirement. Focus on proving that.

On my initial application I entered my highest level of education as vocational school but I lost my vocational school original documents so on my ds 260 I filled in my highest level of education as high school diploma as I have my original certification and it meets the minimum requirement set . KCC don’t control that – the embassy does. However, I assume you have your interview date – so there is no need to worry about CEAC at all.

They instruct us to create profile at http://www.ustraveldocs.com, while creating profile I got confused at one point, there is “priority date number” in form. Simon I have a couple of questions if you would be so kind to help. If I am successful in interview and I enter usa for first time do I need to stay for minimum 6 months? Ie I can’t return to Ireland at Xmas time? weddings, births, deaths etc? can I apply for a position in the usa now with the view that my interview w I’ll be successful? Just to start the process. You do not have to stay any minimum time. Your first trip outside of the USA after activation can safely be up to 12 months (to tie up loose ends etc). But generally you will after that be expected to live in the USA only leaving for up to 6 months at a time.
You can apply for jobs before the interview but employers won’t take your application seriously. I would wait.

You don’t need to show a receipt at the POE – they don’t care. It might be a while before the status changes and it could be a month or two before you get your GC. More patience is all I can suggest….

I have submitted at the end of July the DS260 online on behalf of my. He immediately got the ceac e-mail confirmation. Now, how can we check the process of his application until he gets the 2NL? I tried the “check of my visa application status” on the CEAC website using both the case number and also with his confirmation number but it says “invalid immigrant visa case number”. Yes it is too early – CEAC is not loaded for DV2016 yet. Your case number controls your interview date – but your DS260 will take time to process, so even with a low case number you will not get an October interview.

I doubt you will get an October interview because you delayed submission of your DS260 – it will be in a later month (perhaps November or December. 2NLs come around 6 weeks before the interview.

I needed your advise please: I am from Albania, living in Kosovo. I have had the Kosovo citizenship since for 5 years now but never needed to have the passport. In DS-260 I answered YES to the “other nationality” question and NO to the “passport” question. However, just to be on the safe side, I applied for the Kosovo passport and got it.
Do you think I should unlock the DS-260 or this is not really such a significant issue? Please help!
PS: I have applied at the DV Lottery as an Albanian national, my case post is Tirana.

I don’t know why you felt the need to obtain another passport – but it won’t really matter. You should unl;ock your DS260 to include the new passport details.
One thing I would say. Tirana are applying some DV rules in an unusual way. For instance.
1. They will insist on an I-134, and if that is supplied by a married person, the spouse will have to supply a second I-134. That is completely incorrect, but nevertheless that is their approach.
2. They are denying people with certain forms of “vocational” schooling. That is sort of correct, but they are applying the rule in a very harsh way.
Tirana are sending embassy specific instructions once the interview is scheduled – be careful to follow the instructions.

I have ensured the I-134, and my sponsor is married and, yes, they both had to fill one.
I have heard about their denials of vocational schooling; it might be mainly because vocational education is very poor in Albania and they know it.

Hi Simon, its unfortunate am current have noticed inaccurate info my kids filled wrongly about their dad name at birth and one of them put his address as mine yet he live in a different and we never got married. Should i unlock the form to change or its not a big issue? How many months do you think I will be delayed. I submitted mid July hence interview could have been November. If the forms are still processing on the 17th, then no, you will not get an October interview.
All 2NLs are sent out over a period of a few hours – a couple of days at most.

Am asking because I submitted mine exactly 2 months ago though my CN is AF56***. It’s unfortunate that selectees with lower CNs submit theirs late and vice versa which I bet results in backlog issues. Hey am not an expert… Just a layman’s observation.

They process them in order received. So, yes to take your point, you, by submitting early despite your high CN, have caused delay to some low CN that was not processed because they were processing yours. That’s just the way it is….

Make sure you provide the full name, full case number and date of birth in mm/dd/yyyy format to KCC.
No I don’t think they send another confirmation.
