Hello Brit,
My green card has been sent since February 13th and so far I haven’t received it.
1- I would like to know if it’s normal
2- Is there a way to have the tracking number of the letter? If yes, how?
Have a good day
February 24, 2018 at 16:51
Wherever you found out it was sent – check there for a tracking number.
February 24, 2018 at 18:17
if the ban is working a Somali person was get interview appointment, so that what is that i don’t understand
how he can get interview appointment?
If the ban is working? !!!!
Thanks
February 24, 2018 at 20:57
They are following normal procedures because a person CAN get approved *IF* they have a second nationality. They wouldn’t always know that unless they offer the option of the interview.
February 28, 2018 at 21:20
I heard the ban imposed earlier of February and i saw many Somali persons traveling to the United States and were responsible for the IOM. Has a curfew changed?

Hi Brit! I am entering chaptas, today and also when i did it in the past, and can enter in one session around 200 chaptas, and after that it stops and says that there is no new chaptas. But there are for exaple now 2774 chaptas left to solve. Is it working, or not? Thanks and bye!
February 24, 2018 at 20:56
I’m not sure. Xarthisius might answer.
February 25, 2018 at 04:27
Hi Dana,
the form that’s contacting the scraper has a timeout feature built in. If for some reason there’s no response from the server for a prolonged period of time it throws an error you’re describing. There are multiple reasons why this may happen: your connection to server is slow, I’m updating something on the server, etc. There’s nothing related to a number of solved captchas though. If that happens, try waiting a bit and refreshing your browser.

Hi Simon,
There is a whole lot going on at the moment like stopping of DV program and more …
I heard they are planning to stop family sponsorship too. Is that right? Kindlg let me know if you know or heard of anything like that.
Many thanks
Cheers!
February 24, 2018 at 22:37
There is no bill being discussed currently that proposes to stop DV or family based immigration. 4 such proposals were recently voted on – and each one defeated.
I have written recent articles about that exact topic. Please read them.
February 24, 2018 at 23:09
Hi Simon,
I have wondering, Am I allowed to work right after arrive to US, or do I need some sort of permission since my SSN and green card are still under process?
Thank you
February 25, 2018 at 00:17
You don’t need permission. Some employers insist on seeing the SSN, which usually arrives within 2 to 3 weeks. The GC takes longer, but the endorsed visa in your passport is fine for employers.
February 25, 2018 at 17:10
Thanks for the information.
February 25, 2018 at 04:30
Hi Simon, I hope you’re well! My family and I are looking to travel to the U.S to activate our Immigrant Visas. Is it an issue if we arrive only a few days before our medical expiry date? Also, is it okay to activate at a non-mainland Port (Honolulu.)? Thanks for your help.
February 25, 2018 at 04:42
No problem for either.
February 25, 2018 at 07:13
Hi Sir,
Should we bring our old passports to the interview? What should we do if we can’t find out our old passports?
February 25, 2018 at 08:29
As I heard the ban was dropped at the beginning of this month wasn’t it?
So that what the other ban it is new?
February 25, 2018 at 15:40
The ban is still in place.
February 25, 2018 at 08:55

February 25, 2018 at 15:41

February 25, 2018 at 15:44
No
February 25, 2018 at 20:09
Dear Simon, this is my question
I’m Spanish and I got selected in the DV2018. I was living in Spain at that moment, but then in September I got a 6 months contract, as freelance in another country in Europe: the Netherlands. Now, the 6 months have passed, and it seems I’ll get another 6 months contract. Officially, my “base” is in Spain, for tax matters and everything, but obviously I spend most of the time in the Netherlands. My question is: should I report this change of country to the KCC (unblocking the application and updating it) or I should just leave things as they are, as “officially” I am still living in Spain? I haven’t registered myself in the Netherlands, as citizen, as this job may be temporary, so not sure if I could request a criminal history report, for example… On the other side, if in the interview they ask what I’ve been working on in the last months, I’ll have to say that I was working as freelance in the Netherlands…
My first thought would be to let things as they are for the Green Card matters, but I’d like to have your opinion
Thank you so much in advance
February 26, 2018 at 04:21
Once you have resided in the Netherlands for more than 6 months you will need a police cert from that country. Obtain that once you become current. As to whether you change addresses to the Netherlands or not is your call. If you do, you will be interviewed there, and then all documents will need to be translated.
February 25, 2018 at 21:22
Dear Brit,
I am looking on the new data uploaded by Xarthisius on his page and I see unusual pattern on EU compared to FY2017. In my opinion, I think we may see current at least in June if not in May. However, this may be changed if we will see an increase of late 260 fillers. Moreover, the hole rate started to increase after current no.15.000 in FY 2017 compared to current no. 10.000 in FY 2018. Even though we have a high density to date, I see less visas issued in 2018 than 2017.
Do you share my opinion or there is something else I am missing (e.g. 7% limit for other countries than U2)?
Best regards,
EU29XXX
February 26, 2018 at 04:22
That is a VERY unlikely scenario. I really don’t know what you were looking at to arrive at that conclusion.
February 25, 2018 at 21:43
What is the highest case number you have heard son now for DV 2018 ?Thanks.
February 26, 2018 at 04:23

Check the published number.
February 26, 2018 at 01:46
my daughter will age out still i have to get medical and police report and does she has to attend interview.is she likely to be issued a visa since iam still waiting for 2nl.
Thanks
Natasha
February 26, 2018 at 04:24
You need to be more clear:-
When is her date of birth?
Have you considered CSPA?
What is you region/case number?
February 26, 2018 at 05:04
hi brit
my daughters date of birth is 13/05/1995 and am in oceania region case number ocxxx928
thanks
Natasha
February 26, 2018 at 15:02
So your daughter was already 21 when you entered the lottery!!
No she won’t get a visa, no need to take her to the interview.
February 26, 2018 at 21:51
sorry the date of birth is 13/05/1996
February 26, 2018 at 22:11
OK – that explains how you were able to enter her in the lottery BUT she aged out already – so the answer is the same as before.
February 26, 2018 at 06:26
Hi Brit
Just wondering if anyone from OC have started to receive their 2NLS. From previous posts they are generally sent out between 20th – 24th?
Thanks
February 26, 2018 at 14:58
By the end of the month.
February 26, 2018 at 06:30
Hi Simon,
I travelled to the US first time for first entry on Jan 09, until now I have not received my GC or SSN, is it normal?
February 26, 2018 at 14:58
Yes for the GC. No for the SSN.
Go to the ssa office to inquire about your SSN or apply from scratch.
February 27, 2018 at 04:38
Thanks..but I went for landing and currently out of the US. is the a way to follow up on SSN while am out of the US? thanks
February 27, 2018 at 06:02
No
February 26, 2018 at 06:52
Hello, Thank you for your help. I have a question about the translation and certification of documents. Can I translate and certify the documents in the country of my birth if I will be interviewed in another country?
February 26, 2018 at 14:57
Yes
February 26, 2018 at 19:17
Thank you very much.I still have this question-my secondary school certificate was lost, at school I was given a duplicate, but it was issued for the name I received after my marriage. Can there be any problems?
February 26, 2018 at 19:23
That might create suspicion. I cannot say with certainty.
February 26, 2018 at 07:00
Dear BritSimon,
I’m really thankful for all the help you are providing to me.
As I mentioned before I’m going to have my interview next month in the mid of March. I found small issue in my 2NL. It’s in the surname of my wife. My wife’s surname is ‘Dulal’ (same as mine) and mistakenly it was typed ‘Dula’ instead of Dulal, so L is missing but rest of us (me, and 2 of my children).
I checked the DS260 forms whether I had made any mistake while filling up the forms but it is correct and the confirmation page of DS 260 which comes with barcode is also correct which has full letters i.e. Dulal.
My concern is:
1) whether I should write/inform to KCC or to any other concern department before I attend the interview?
2) Do you think it might cause any issue or delay visa processing?
Thank you once again for your time and valuable information.
February 26, 2018 at 14:56
1. No
2. No
February 26, 2018 at 17:54
Thank you once again for your precious time and for your kind response.
February 26, 2018 at 07:23
Hi …
I was trying to check states of case number using the link but (CAEC) but it keeps saying “The code entered does not match the code displayed on the page.” what should i do.
February 26, 2018 at 14:55
CEAC status check wants the leading zeros removed.
February 26, 2018 at 09:18
hello! i have some confusion! does this xarthisius shows the data of visa issue including derivatives or only DV winners visa issue??
February 26, 2018 at 14:53
Including derivatives (for cases after NVC status).
February 26, 2018 at 09:23
Dear britsimon
A friend of mine is one of the dv 2018 winners and he plays as SINGLE .he got married on August after the date of selection. He then filled d’s 260 form for both of them after that he submit his form but he didn’t submit his spouse d’s 260 form till know and he have an interview schedule in mid of march.my question is
1.can he submit his spouse d’s 260 know befor the interview date
2.does it affects it’s interview.
February 26, 2018 at 14:52
He must discuss this with the embassy. He has had MONTHS to add his spouse, and waited all this time – that’s just idiotic.
February 26, 2018 at 15:15
Dear britsimon
Thanks for the fast reply in advance.
He already ADD her as his spouse but failed to summit ds 260.
Does he have any option to discuss with kcc to unlock his case and submit the form.
February 26, 2018 at 16:04
No. Now he must discuss it with the embassy.

Hi Brit,
This is a great site. Just have a quick question that needs clarification.
Qst: i have tried accessing the ESC so i can know my status though i know my case is not current (2018AF40xxx). The information that is showing is that “this information is not valid”. What can be the possible cause of this?
February 26, 2018 at 14:47
That you are not following the instructions…
February 26, 2018 at 14:35
Dear Simon
How you can solve My first entry I was mention my form one Adoption child at that time I have no idea what Adoption child is, so My DS-260 I left his form, because of he was a young boy that I was assist him he was orphanage his mother and his father was died, and I was assist him basic essential live things such as education, home and food. So I add at my first entry as a Adoption child, and I have no Adoption document. So are they ask me Adoption document while I left his form to fill? What is your recommendation? I would like to tell the truth during interview, how is it.
February 26, 2018 at 14:46
The adopted child will not get a visa, but there is no risk to your case. So, you will have to decide what to do.
February 26, 2018 at 16:56
Hi Brit,
While filling the DS260 form i put my father middle name as ‘Francis’,as appears in my passport details.however i have now noticed that my fathers middle name on my birth certificate and marriage certificate is spelt as ‘Francisco’.
If this is an issue what do i need to do?
February 26, 2018 at 17:37
Nothing – it doesn’t matter.
February 26, 2018 at 17:43

February 26, 2018 at 18:24
Dear Brit,
Thanks for the answer. I have also spotted something my spouses birth certificate, that his mothers second and third name are initialized. They have not written all the names, only the first name and sir name is mentioned while the rest are initials. Do I need to get that changed?
Thanks.
February 26, 2018 at 18:31
Again, not important.
February 26, 2018 at 20:10
On the data graph created by Mr. X, we can see that the response rate between 11.000 and somewhat 14-15.000 was quite high compared to previous numbers. Can that be part of the explanation for the slow VB pace?
February 26, 2018 at 20:31
If that were true – I would say yes – but I can’t see why you think the response rate is high during that number range. Can you explain what you are seeing?
February 26, 2018 at 20:38
I think you are getting confused with the cases that are ready for March interviews versus cases that are ready for April interviews.
There is no real difference in response rate – and given that people don’t behave differently within a given number range, it would not make any sense.
February 26, 2018 at 20:47
on the chart for EU I can see the no-response rate up to 10.000 in the late 30s%. from 11.000 until 14.-15.000 the no-respmse rate is in the early 20%. So that does show a diffrent response within that number range, no? And since cases for April are scheduled until 15.950, and the no-response rate at the graph looks about 10 ish% less then for numbers that have influenced the march bulletin.
February 26, 2018 at 21:10
No. You are not accounting for the reduction in density, and the percentages are based on the 100% of case numbers. The response rate hasn’t changed.
February 26, 2018 at 21:17
ahhh. that explains a lot, thank you!
February 26, 2018 at 21:16
Hello sir
Gud day please I have gone for my interview I dd do my medical so he ask me to go and do my medical.please hope there is chances
February 26, 2018 at 22:08

February 27, 2018 at 21:28
Yes please it was typing error all I want to ask after asking me to do the medical is there hope for me to get the visa
February 27, 2018 at 21:35
I don’t know anything about your case!
February 26, 2018 at 21:25
Good afternoon brit help me in something I have a problem in the spreadsheet ds260 the name of the accompanying companion where it says name says Pablo Sebastian from there in his last name Bernal Escandón and in the full name They say Pablo Sebastián Pablo Sebastián, that’s why they can disqualify me
And another thing in the same form of working time before the real one that you have in 2015 but in reality it should be 2014
As I can do I must ask for the change I have my appointment on March 7
February 26, 2018 at 22:09
I don’t really understand the question – BUT if you are already scheduled you cannot make changes to the DS260 – so discuss it during the interview.
February 26, 2018 at 22:03
Hello Brit Thanks again for you help.. my sponsor already paid my immigration fee and i successfully verified my identity in U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services website i have two questions ..i am still in my country

February 26, 2018 at 22:12

2. No
February 26, 2018 at 22:11
Hi Brit
I don’t currently any friends or relatives in the Us for purposes of completing the US address in the DS-260. What will i do? I’m stressing about it. I mean I am making my savings for my own place when I finally fly to the US but what will I do because the address is needed now in May?
February 26, 2018 at 22:13
Use a friend of a friend.
February 26, 2018 at 22:29
Hi Brits,
I am from Australia. I just got my visa and want to do my first entry and return to Australia to sort things out before moving to the US permanently. I was wondering if:
1- Is Hawaii considered as a port of entry so I can do my first entry as it is close to Australia
2- My US address to receive Green Card is in LA, CA a friend’s address. isn’t that a problem if I do my first entry in Hawaii?
Thanks
February 26, 2018 at 22:46
1. Yes
2. No
February 26, 2018 at 22:32
Hey Brit
I am current in the state to be exactly North Carolina …..but I have to question
1. I never took the alien number that was attach to the package absolutely I never…..so I am worried wat will happen because I am already here
2. My name is Ventry Rufus Tyler but on the visa they put the two name as one VentryRufus instead of Ventry Rufus can that be rectified
3. If I received social security number in North Carolina can I work in another state and lastly can I get my green card online because I never paid for it in Liberia
February 26, 2018 at 22:46
1. & 2. Contact USCIS. They can sort out the name and give you the A number
3. Yes you can work anywhere.
4. You must pay for it online. Don’t delay – but you might need the A number, so take action on speaking to USCIS.
February 26, 2018 at 22:41
Hi, mr. Simon,
Among the required documents for an interview is a certificate of absence of a criminal record in another country where the applicant spent more than 12 months.
I am from Azerbaijan. I visited Russia several times, and each time for 2-5 months, not more. Do I need to provide a certificate of no criminal record in this country? The demand indicates 12 months, but I do not know whether there is a continuous stay or a total stay. Please explain. Thank you!
February 26, 2018 at 22:43
If in doubt, get the police cert.
February 27, 2018 at 22:19
Thank you! And more: in the form of the DS-260, I did not mention my visits to Russia, because I was not there for 6 months in a row. Does it make sense to add this information? My interview is scheduled for March. Thank you!
February 27, 2018 at 23:27
YOu are supposed to detail travel history – so yes.
February 26, 2018 at 23:47
I have a question, of course only given if my case number will get called. I will need a police certificate from Germany and spain. Germany is not a problem, and Spain is technically not, either. However, I have never asked for a spanish police certificate and I have no clue how long the need to adress one to me. Since I was living in Spain for six months back in 2011, I am now wondering if the police certificate from Spain also needs to not be older than three months? Because if not, I would prefer to get it done now, rather than last minute and then find out it takes forever, and then put n AP because of a missing spanish police certificate with an interviewdte in September…
Since I have not lived in Spaain after 2011, I would technically also not have been able to commit any crime there during this time, so does the “not older than 3 months” regulation apply here as well?
February 27, 2018 at 00:00
Why get it this early – and then be stressed about whether it is recent enough or not, or be accepted by the CO.
Wait for a few months until we are closer to your number.
February 27, 2018 at 04:06
My interpretation is that a police certificate is valid for 1 year, except in the case of a police certificate from a country you haven’t been to since issue, which can be older than the one year. Is this incorrect?
What’s this about 3 months? And why would the Spain police report need to be new in Rxy’s case?
Sorry, just checking because I have been VERY careful to prepare correctly but our 2 European Police Reports (countries not re-visited) are going to be at/over the 1 year mark, so if I missed something then I want to correct it.
Thanks!
February 27, 2018 at 06:02
Police certificates have no implicit validity. You could get a clean police from a month ago and have robbed a bank since then. So – although the CO can (at their discretion) accept an old police cert where the person has not revisited that country, that relies on the assumption that the person has not revisited the country. Since not all countries stamp people in and out nowadays, that represents a “doubt”. Why on earth would anyone want to go to the interview with that doubt, when it is so easily removed.
It’s about de-risking – and therefore de-stressing.
February 27, 2018 at 14:48
This is what I was basing my own preparation on:
—–
Important: Police certificates expire after one year, unless the certificate was issued from your country of previous residence and you have not returned there since the police certificate was issued. If at the time of your interview the following three items are all true, you must bring a new police certificate to your visa interview:
You are more than 16 years old;
The police certificate submitted to NVC was obtained more than one year ago; and
You still live in the country that issued the certificate.
—–
February 27, 2018 at 14:49
I hope we didn’t prepare the police certificates too early. According to the instructions, it seems we did not. But now I don’t know. :-/ We’ve already invested in the translations and everything too.
February 27, 2018 at 15:23
If the COs were *obliged* to always follow the instructions, that would be fine – but they are not. If the CO does not accept the police cert, they will delay the approval. So – it’s your decision. You will *probably* be OK – but I like to reduce risk.
February 27, 2018 at 00:29
Thank for the first answer…
So how can I get my Alien number from them help me out please I really need it because I give the package at the airport in Newark NJ with the Alien number on it help me
February 27, 2018 at 00:48
You can ASK THEM. Or look on your visa and see if its there.
February 27, 2018 at 03:48
Hey BritSimon,
I’m helping my mom – who has gotten selected in the lottery – apply for AoS based on DV lottery. Her number is going to be up in the next visa bulletin.
Here’s the trick: she has got married to a *US Citizen* AFTER the results were announced. We chose to pursue the DV lottery visa AoS, instead of filing AoS based on marriage.
So, the DS-260 form doesn’t list her being married. But now the main package will list her married.
Is there any reason, whatsoever, to unlock the DS-260 and add the spouse? Again – the spouse is a US Citizen who obviously doesn’t need to really be involved in the AoS process.
My question is more around whether the marital status on DS-260 *has* to match the AoS forms, and whether that would raise any red flags or cause any problems if marital status has changed in the process.
Thank you!
February 27, 2018 at 03:50
No problem – BUT the AOS forms should reflect the marital status as that is the truth.
February 27, 2018 at 04:00
Sounds great. Thank you for the prompt response!
February 27, 2018 at 06:03
Hi Simon
From Africa, I was married tradionally in May 2016 and according to our tradition we reguard traditional marriage first before any form of marriage. In February this year we got married legally but before my husband and I played the Dv lottery (Nov 2017) and I played as married.
What’s our fade in case we win the lottery come may 2018. Are we going to be disqualified because we played as married then got married by lea some months after playing?
February 27, 2018 at 06:18
No problem.
February 27, 2018 at 07:58

Hi, Simon,
My case number is 2018AS2xxx, seeing status “Ready” just updated on ceac. Still awaiting for 2NLs. hope my interview will be in April.
I am planing my first entry to the US not before August 2018 if I get the visa in April.
My problem is I won’t have 6 months valid passport at the planned traveling time, because I have my passport validity only till Nov 2018 and with that passport details I have submitted my DS-260.
My questions-
1)do I need to change new passport now and proceed medical check and interview using new passport?
2) Do I need to inform KCC or US embassy in my country about my new passport ?
3) will new passport OK (acceptable) for my case?
Thanks a lot for your help

I have ever attended to university but I didn’t complete my education. Do I have to fill that out in DS260?
February 27, 2018 at 23:31
Yes
February 27, 2018 at 23:55
My case number is AS53xx. It possibly go current next month. I submited DS260 at first at May 20,2017. I just noticed I had wrongly spelled my mother’s given name. I requested KCC to unlock at 1 p.m. then they sent me an email to edit my DS260 at 1 a.m. I accurately filled things out and completed it.
Do you think my schedule is considered to be late or have any effect?
Thank you
