Good day Brit,
A friend of mine was selected in the DV lottery 2018 with his wife
during their enitia entry they did not include the wife son, which is
his step son,
But while filling in their ds-260 the wife included her son when ask if she had any children (Yes)
Will your son immigrate with you they said (no)
Question
1. Will this cause a problem during interview, they have not been schedule
CN is AF28xxxxxxx
They are very worry please help!
March 21, 2018 at 14:09
If the child is under 21 that will cause disqualification.
March 21, 2018 at 15:13
Thanks Brit for your quick response
If he write KCC to open his DS-260
and remove the child from his wife form
will that be ok for them .
Thanks.
March 21, 2018 at 15:22
No. There is no way to fix this.
March 31, 2018 at 02:20

Hi brit please wanted to know if cameroon still have sufficient visakois than demanded??
March 21, 2018 at 14:59
There is no allocation by country – it is based on the region.
March 21, 2018 at 20:07
Do african still have sufficient visas than demanded???
March 21, 2018 at 21:32
No.
March 21, 2018 at 14:21
Hi Simon,is the dv interview and conversation recorded ?if yes can an applicant resort to embassy to check the recorded interview again if there was some misunderstanding during questions and answers leading to a long administrative processing ?Thank you so much.
March 21, 2018 at 15:00
1. I don’t think so.
2. Even if it were – the answer to that question would be no.
March 21, 2018 at 15:56
I fallowing VB and my interview will be in June, my passport is valid until April 2019, I plan to leave my country on July or August, whether I will need a new passport, or I can travel with this one?

The one you have is OK.
March 21, 2018 at 16:18
Thanks BritSimon

Brit,
My sister and the husband went for their interview on the 31st January and there were put on AP with out being asked to submit any additional documents.
On the 2nd February, the AP status changed to refused and was updated again on the 9th February to refused but we were wondering what the reason for the refusal could be.
After series of contact with the embassy, she was able to schedule a follow up appointment for today, 21st March.
When they got to the embassy, they just called them to the window and handed over the refusal letter. The reason for the refusal as indicated in the letter was , multiple entry.
now my questions
1. why was it she not handed the refusal letter on the day of their first interview since I’m sure the multiple entry was may have been detected along the line before the first interview date
2. My sister con firms that she only did a sinfge entry and did not contract any other person to do any other application on her behalf
3. From the education we’ve been having from your end, I thought ,anytime time a multiple entry is detected in the process of the registration for the lottery, the system automatically identifies that and nullify the all the entry and the person automatically is disqualified, why was she able to go through the entire process till now that she’s been told that, she did a double entry.
according to her, the CO said there’s no waiver for their application
4. His husband’s passport could not be traced at the embassy, so they only got the passport for my sister and were told that, they will look for it and call them later.
5. Brit in your opinion, have they been fair to my sister
6. Does multiple entry indeed if there was any be classified under fraud
March 21, 2018 at 17:45
1. They presumably either knew something prior to the interview, or discovered evidence after the interview. That is their right.
2. OK.
3. No – that is not what I have ever said. Some cases are disqualified before the selectees are notified, but other cases are allowed to go through that level to check suspicions, or suspicion does not even exist prior to interview. Again – that is their prerogative.
4. OK
5. I have no idea. I don’t know what their decision was based on.
6. It can do – yes.
March 21, 2018 at 17:55
Dear Brit,
This might be a silly question but I am worried.
I wrote high school degree instead of diploma in my Ds 260. Is it going to be a problem?
March 21, 2018 at 19:59
No
March 21, 2018 at 18:02
Hi Dear SIMON
Does police certificate have expiration date??My case number is a May interview but yet I did not received the 2NL, If I will prepare the police certificate do you think it is not good time due to the 2NL did not received??
Thanks for your reply
March 21, 2018 at 18:43
I had the same question. I went to the Police and they asked for what purpose I needed the clearence. I told them about the EDV. They said they can’t provide Clearance without the letter from NVC (I tgink they meant 2NL). I guess there are country specific rules. Please check with yours.
I am current in May and have not received the 2NL yet.
March 22, 2018 at 03:55
krishna paudel…i think you are from nepal….i am also current in may and have not received 2NL…
March 21, 2018 at 19:59
No problem.
March 21, 2018 at 18:08
HI. We want to visit US in June for few weeks, should we unlock ds form after returning and update information about travel or not?? Our cn is eu 33xxx. By the way – what are your latest predictions for eu? I have heard that they issued almost 10k visas in eu to this time so maybe last cn willl be below even 30k? what do you think
March 21, 2018 at 20:00
You don’t have to update latest travel.
EU could end earlier than expected – but I don’t see risk under 30k.
March 22, 2018 at 05:12
Hi BritSimon,
I noticed that you are reducing safe final CN for EU with every new month. So now all above of 30K are in the risk zone? Correct?
March 22, 2018 at 05:15
I haven’t said that – but wait and see….
March 21, 2018 at 19:30
Who’s recevied the second NL for Embassy interview under CN EU17xxx ?
March 21, 2018 at 20:01
Hello Mr Brit, this is my first time on this blog but I have been reading some of your blogs. I want to give an account of progress of a case of my husband and ask of your opinion pls. It will be very lengthy but please please please, I beg of you to make time for me and read through. It doesn’t bother my husband that much but it does to me.
* We attended interview at Accra on 5 March and were approved and asked to create account from a web address on a white paper.
* From 6 – 8 March his status remained Ready
* On Fri 9 March status changed to AP and stayed same till Tue 13 Mar
* On Wed 14 Mar it changed to Issued and remained same till Fri 16 Mar
* Later on Fri 16 Mar, it changed to Ready
* On Monday 19 Mar in the morning, it changed to AP and later on same day it again changed to Ready and has remained Ready till date.
* Meanwhile when he downloaded the CEAC Data from one of your blogs his status shows AP from 9 March till date.
* Now the CEAC data shows AP but the CEAC website shows Ready
It is important to mention, also, that during the time his status was Issued, we are 5 in number but only 4 showed Issued. The last one (5), which according to my husband is our little daughter’s number, (only)showed AP. Now I remember during the preparatory stages my husband mentioned that he included our little daughter’s middle names when he entered the DV, but left them out when processing her birth cert and passport because both authorities said the names (six in all) were too long to fit in the space on the birth cert and the passport. So in effect, the names on her D260 is more than that in her birth cert and passport.
Now my questions:
1. Could our daughter’s name saga be the reason she alone was showing AP when we all showed Issued and now by extension affected the whole case? I remember my husband said he would address it at the interview, but it never came up.
2. Can we contact the Embassy to find out IF there is any issue which requires our attention? We live in the part of world where someone stands next to you with his phone on but when you call him the mobile company network will tell you his phone is switched off. My suspicion, they may have tried contacting us but failed in reaching us.
Please your “professional” advice, from your knowledge of other experiences is very appreciated.
Thank you and God bless you!
March 21, 2018 at 20:04
1. I don’t know.
2. There is no harm in contacting them.
March 21, 2018 at 20:40

Do u think I’m going to obtain that visa?your ans pls.
March 21, 2018 at 21:30
I have no idea about your case. So I don’t know.
March 21, 2018 at 22:36
Hello Brit, I applied through the Greencard Organisation and they sent me my conformation number for dv 2019. They called me in February 2018 and said my application is over qualified and I’m selected so I should send US$1000 for the consular process of which I did. They further requested another 1000 for the interview. Is it possible for them to know if I’m selected before the official results in May or is it a scam?
March 22, 2018 at 01:38
It is OBVIOUSLY a scam! No one has been selected yet – and there are no fees charged at this stage. NEVER use these scumbag agencies!
March 21, 2018 at 23:08
Hi Simon,
Is DS-260 require a photos for submiting this form ?
March 22, 2018 at 01:41
No
March 22, 2018 at 00:39
Hi,
I’m one of the ‘lucky’ people selected for DV2018, EU region. Me and my wife have gone through this process, paid the fees and finally got our visas issued. Everything was perfect until we started to look for health insurance. I cant believe that such country as USA, which is so proud of its citizens is basically ruining their lives. I´m from post communist country, we as nation had to go through very though political transformation and we pay just 70$ monthly for health insurance and that covers EVERYTHING. Even complicated threatment of the worse diseases. If it is possible here why not in great USA? I know…. business, money money money. We are seriously thinking to throw the visa in trash and rather live our lives in low income country but stay safe and healthy.
March 22, 2018 at 01:47
Of course that is possible here! I have such a policy – it covers anything – although I have some small charges to pay when I see the doctor, get a prescription and so on. It is expensive of course the policy covers my family and costs around 24k per year. However, my employer pays most of that – so my cost is about $400 per month (meaning less than half a days salary for me – although my job is well paid compared to a lot of people). So – if you are coming here without the skills to earn a good living – then you may be better off at home – but otherwise look at the potential here and decide whether it is something you want, either for you or for children.
March 22, 2018 at 06:54
$400 a month is alot for health insurance Mr.Simon , don’t you think especially for people starting out who might earn about $1500 a month.24k meaning 24000.OMG! Well as you said your job pays more…but thank you for this information.
March 22, 2018 at 15:08
If people cannot afford such an expensive policy, there are cheaper options. But the point I was answering was a perception that the USA had no comparable health insurance policies to what was described. It has, it costs more, but then people earn more.
March 25, 2018 at 09:25
Thank you for your answer Simon.
March 22, 2018 at 01:23
hi brit I had to interview on 03/13/2018 and my case was put in administrative process. I have two questions. What is the maximum time to send the missing documentation, in my case were the medical exams, and how long does the embassy take to decide the case? thanks for your time
March 22, 2018 at 01:48
You should provide the forms as soon as possible! Once your case stays in AP across a month end, there will be delays when you finally get approved. How long – varies by case.
March 22, 2018 at 02:12
Hello brits, My friend need some help , he is a dv winner of 2018 and has already been interviewed as single and this month he got visa but now he wants to get married. So what will be the procedure to take his newly married wife?how much time does it may take and what will be its procedure? Thank u for your time and suggestions 🙂
March 22, 2018 at 04:59
Once he is established in the USA he could start a family based sponsorship. It will take 2 years.
March 22, 2018 at 10:22
Thank u brit, but could u please explain it in detail. Do we have an article on this topic ? I couldnt find it.So u mean to say once he gets his greencard (assume after 2 months) he could start sponsorship. And let us add more 2 year so approx they can be together on 2.5 years from now?? Sorry if I understood it in a wrong way. Hope to see detailed answer from u. 🙂
March 22, 2018 at 14:40
I don’t have an article about that – and I only advise on DV process.
March 22, 2018 at 03:04
Hi dear brit i had to interview on 03/01/2018 and my case was put in AP please brit iam worried i have not recived packed document& passport advice me.
March 22, 2018 at 04:58
AP times vary – all you can do is wait.
March 22, 2018 at 04:20
Hello Brit,
I’m hate studpid questions, and I do not want to bother anyone. But I spend days looking for this information:
I am doing AOS because I won Green Card while being on F1 Student Visa. NO MARRIAGE, just an international student who won green card.
So, my question is do I HAVE to do immigrant petition?
March 22, 2018 at 04:57
Do you mean the DS260 – yes you should, it isn’t a must, but it speeds the process later.
March 22, 2018 at 09:32
Hello Britt Simon a friend of mine went for his interview and said he was denied and was given the refusal letter. But his passport wasn’t given back to him. He said he was refused base on misrepresentation of facts which was his birth cert. Hesaid the co said the seal on he birth cert was fake. After he left the embassy he had a call again from them and when he returned he was interrogated by some natives in the embassy. And afterwards they took his passport and told him they will call him after they have gone through further adminstrative processing
March 22, 2018 at 15:05
Well your friend knows whether he has forged documents or not. If he has, he should be worried. If he hasn’t, he just needs to wait for the outcome.
March 22, 2018 at 10:53
Britsimon my heart all i wanna say thank you very much that is all i can do , today the embassy reply my e mail and they said u dont need to bring the Affidavid of support . March 22, 2018 at 12:08

March 22, 2018 at 14:39
Renew your passport and take both old and new passports to the interview.

March 22, 2018 at 15:17
Dear Simon,
I am writing this because I have some questions:
One friend of mine has been selected to DV2018. So do I. We are from Venezuela. Her number is 2018SA3xx and my number is 2018SA8xx. She sent her DS260 form in the last days of January and, in my case, I sent it in the first days of March. Our numbers are below the VB cut-off.
At this moment we did not receive any information about our interview process, so:
1.- Do we need to worry about it?
2.- Is there enough time to schedule our interviews?
3.- Is there any reference to know approximately when can be our interview?
Thanks for the information.
March 22, 2018 at 15:51
1. No
2. Yes
3. Wait and see.
March 22, 2018 at 16:06
Hi Simon, I really appreciate your continuos help for all of us DV winners! Thanks for that! I have a question regarding the so called “family based sponsorship”. I got a feedback from a US immigration lawyer that it may take up to 10 years to have, in our case, our 22 years old son leaving as a family member in the US, while in a recent post in this blog you said it may take up tp two years. Of course it makes a big difference, could you please help me to clarify this point? Thanks again and have a good day.
March 22, 2018 at 16:26
I would not have mentioned 2 years for a child over 21. That case falls into the F2B category – which has a much longer waiting period. 10 years would not be uncommon.
March 22, 2018 at 16:59
Hello Brit,
My case no.2018Af00000156.I’m from Liberia

March 22, 2018 at 17:06
They are performing additional checks. I don’t know what the outcome will be – because I don’t know you or your case.
March 22, 2018 at 17:13
Hi Dear SIMON
Sorry I did not get my answer so repeated my question:
1-Does police certificate have expiration date??
2-My case number is a May interview but yet I did not received the 2NL it is normal???
3-If I will prepare the police certificate do you think it is not good time due to the 2NL did not receive??
4-The one who’s filling the I-134 form how much income does that person need for one year? if the person has a family of four members
Thanks for your reply
March 22, 2018 at 17:35
I did answer your previous question – I said “no problem”.
1. It should be recent.
2. There are many cases like that. Patience.
3. You can apply now if you think it will take a long time to obtain.

thanks so much
March 23, 2018 at 12:55
Hey Brit,
I got married in mid 2013. However this was a customary ceremony and thus without a marriage certificate or any documentation then. We got a kid later that year.
When filing my DV application in October 2016 I indicated that I was married with one kid. One month later ( November 2016) we officiated our marriage at the AG chambers and a marriage certificate issued. When completing the DS260 we indicated the date of marriage as October 2016 and not the customary marriage date 2013.
1.Might this be an issue during interview?
2. Should we unlock DS 260 and put the marriage date as the one in 2013?
Many thanks
Peter
March 23, 2018 at 18:12
1. No
2. No need. Just explain at the interview, if asked.
March 24, 2018 at 03:28
Thank you.
March 22, 2018 at 19:58
I’m William Barchue Cooper one of the DV seletee
I hail from Liberia.
Case no.2018AF000001xx/2018AF1xx
My greatest worry now is when will the embassy call me back.
March 23, 2018 at 00:13
Hello Brit
My interview has been scheduled. I’m still a bit nervous about mailing address in USA. I don’t have any relatives there. So I put the temple’s address and missionary name as mailng address that green card will be sent.
Any effect to issued visa?
March 23, 2018 at 02:47
Well can you get the GC if sent there??
March 23, 2018 at 03:27

March 23, 2018 at 17:46
I don’t know. Simply follow the instructions from the embassy.
March 23, 2018 at 10:42
Hi,
We received an e-mail from embassy to submit our passport because conculate finalised decision for our case while CEAC status still show AP.
Is it the case that database is not up to date? Shouldn’t be now show “issued”?
March 23, 2018 at 18:09
That is normal.
March 23, 2018 at 15:47
Is someone here who haven’t received his or her 2nl and the status still show at kcc.I mean those in Africa
March 23, 2018 at 21:52
Hi Brit
When an applicant received the 2NL stating the date and time of hh interview.
1: is there any appointment you need to do as it relates to the embassy ( online application)
2: or just gather the informations given by putting all your documents together and get ready for the interview on said date.
Thank you.
March 23, 2018 at 21:59
1. That varies by embassy.
2. Well you do that too – but also follow instructions from the embassy.
March 23, 2018 at 22:45
Hi Brit
I have some questions which I really help from you
I can to USA in July 2017 as single
1. Is it possible that I can do that affidavits of support or sponsor for my wife who’s willing to join me here in the United States
2. My wife is about to join me here with the tourist Visa so if we get married here after how long will she going to get a temporary green card
Thanks
March 23, 2018 at 23:03
1. If you sponsor her, they will expect you to provide an affidavit of support to take financial responsibility for her.
2. She will have to return home and the process will take about 2 years.
March 24, 2018 at 12:31
The Thing is if she returns back home the process will take too long that why I prefered if she can come with the tourist visa so that we can get marry her
1. how long can it take for her to be issued the work permit I mean or (social security card ) because me somebody told me it will take 3 to 6 months for her to issued a temporary work permit for 1 year as the process goes on
2. and another thing is that i was confused because somebody told me for me to sponsor or do the invitation for somebody to come to USA i need at least 2 years but now only have 8 months that i wanna confirm with you
Thanks
March 24, 2018 at 13:57
I told you all I know – I don’t offer advice on any cases except DV lottery.

March 24, 2018 at 08:46
Hi britsimon,
I had asked a question nearly 3 weeks ago. I need to ask you something related with it.
My gf has won dv2018 with 2018 EU 385xx from TURKEY. I know its too high. I know as you said ; you might not be invited the interview.
I examined the ceac data and I saw that 19.2k application was processed and 4.4k refused 14.2k is ready. (1/4 refuse rate.)
There should be more complex explanation With a simple assume or thought ; 50k-14.2k = 35.8 k (without thinkin ap) visa will be held.
Is there any hope to get our visa ? Or just let it roll off.
Cause we were thinking to marry in mid of april and send ds260 same week. It’s a critical decision for us. I need your prediction.

50k visas are worldwide!!! I think EU has about 9k visas issued so far and the eu region gets a total of about a bit 17 or 18k. So there are not 35.8k visas left at this point.

what do you predict about for the rest of the visas? which number will be cut off Rxy?
March 24, 2018 at 13:57
i dont predict anything
March 24, 2018 at 14:36
brhn- I pretty much agree with Brits prediction. I think *if* we had seen a regulary pace, given the low number of visas issued in Uzbekistan, we *might* could have extended the “safe zone” a slightly bit (however, not sure because responses also seem higher this year). However, given this slow process, we have to “wait and see”. I hate it too. There is basically no backlog at this point- however, there was rarly backlog for the last VB either, and it didnt really move faster,. My hope is however that *maybe* we will see bigger jumps than expected by now, because of the new density level, and no backlog. But it is also possible that their slow pace is simply a capacity issue, or they will underfill EU this year for whatever reason, or, or, or, and then, they will not move that much faster. Obviously, more then 2k VB will be called in the next bulletin, but we really need to see at least 4k, for numbers above 34xxx even 5k. It *should* technically be possible. Density decreased, and additionally there are just very few old cases. But *technically* that decrease was also possible in the past two months. So really, I wait and see and I hate it. At this point- no matter what outcome- it will be a surprise.

I have no idea of your numbers – but the reality is I don’t think that number will become current. That has never been a safe range, and as time has gone on, it looks less and less likely to get current.

Hi Simon,
For newly minted GC holders, I understand that we need to comply with FBAR and FATCA.
FBAR seems simple enough, but what exactly do I have to do for FATCA?
Should I tell all my UK banks that I am currently a US GC and let them handle the rest?
Thanks.
March 24, 2018 at 13:54
You don’t do anything for FATCA. That responsibility is on the banks.

Dear Brit,
1. If our sponsor does not meet the 125% poverty guide line with his income can he include his assets in the I 134?
Our sponsor has 2 person in his family, and we are a couple too.His income is sufficient to support 3 person according to the poverty guideline and I think the I 134 will not be of any use unless the income is sufficient for all four of us.
2.In that case, can my sponsor do a joint sponsorship?
3. If yes, which option is more suitable? Showing the assests or joint sponsorship?
Thanks.

1. Assets count very little. It’s about INCOME.
2. No
3. Get another sponsor.

Hi Brit, Again thanks for all the precious advice and time you invest in this blog. Pretty sure it help me through the entire process which is why I return after having my visa issued. Also searched through old posts to avoid asking something you previously answered to. My question is: once entering the US, in my case at JFK, Do I use the international line or the Citizens and Residents line for customs? O read that we are there to ask for permission to enter the country. Is there a formal introduction that I need to address the agent I’ll be talking to such as ” I am here as a first time diversity visa holder an I would like your approval”? Or just hand in my passport and papers as I used to do when travelling with an ESTA? Just trying to get it all right, I’d be truly sad and stupid to mess it up all so close to the finish line. I also paid my $220 issuing green card fees online so all I have left to do is actually fly to the U.S. So excited!!! Again, thanks for your help!!! Cheers

You can’t really mess this up – it’s not another interview.
You stand in the visitors line. You will most likely be taken to a different area where they open your sealed envelope and process it. It takes a few minutes – but if there is a line, there could be some waiting.

Thanks for this prompt reply! Very much appreciated. Let the countdown begin ?? Have a great weekend.

March 24, 2018 at 15:26
Dear Brit ,
Do the interviews the Consul just a routine and the decisions are pre-equipped whether accepted or rejected?
Thanks.
March 24, 2018 at 15:31
No
March 24, 2018 at 16:34
Mr. Brit, it’s just 3 to 5 minutes or less than that for the interview, i think the file should be prepared before that & at least give green line for that as a safe file or matching with the required or just checking for the documents !!!! sorry, but i’m interested to know the right direction for that.
March 24, 2018 at 17:11
I already gave you an accurate answer.
March 25, 2018 at 11:32
Thanks Mr. Brit
March 24, 2018 at 15:59
Hi Brit,
I’m preparing for my interview in May. One of the required documents is Police Record. If I have been to a country several times for different reasons after I was 16 years old, each of them wasn’t more than 12 months, but totally more than 12 months, should I prepare a Police Record from that country?
March 24, 2018 at 16:06
It is always wise to do MORE than you need – so yes – get it.
