Thank you for all Brit,
One more question, how much time do I have to submit ds 260?
My case number is 2019EU2XXX.
Thank you.
May 21, 2018 at 18:01
You can submit any time over the next year. Your interview will not be scheduled until your DS260 is process AND your number is ready.
May 26, 2018 at 19:30
Hello Simon I found a mistake on my ds 260 I didint mentioned the baccalaureate of my wife in the ds I just put directly her license from the university! Should I open the ds260 ? Or leave it with no problem?! My case number is 2018AF00039xxx is there enough time ?
May 26, 2018 at 20:50
If she is the derivative, it won’t matter at all. If she is the principal, if you had more time I would suggest correcting it. However, it isn’t very serious as you will take all the education proof to the interview in any case.
May 26, 2018 at 21:34
Am the principal applicant ,I am the winner and she’s my wife she’s with me and my nc is 2018Af00039xxx am not sheduled yet but am sure in the next visa bulletin I ll ne current I also didn’t put my secondary history just put my vocational diploma should I open it and correct it anyway? What do advise me I still have time ?! If I opened it would that cause me a delay from this visa bulletin that will come in June ? Thank
May 26, 2018 at 23:31
My answer covers all that.
May 27, 2018 at 23:39
In my case do I still have time to unlock it or there is no time and that could delay the interview? Plz advise me simon ! Thanx
May 28, 2018 at 04:57
Normally no delay.
May 27, 2018 at 23:42
And if it’s too late can I change it in the interview and add my studding history? Thanx

May 21, 2018 at 19:18
You can apply – but I don’t know if they will ask about a resident permit at the interview.
May 21, 2018 at 19:47
Thanks for early response, the thing is I came here without a visa. In order words I came through the border. I am yet to get my passport, birth certificate and education qualification printed from my country and sent to me to apply from here. I can’t go back to my home country because I am running from persecution(asylee)

May 21, 2018 at 22:49
Hi Brit,
1. I’ve been in the US for 3+ months now, and my green card has not yet arrived. I got a mail a month ago to go and do the biometrics, which I went to.
Going to https://egov.uscis.gov/casestatus/ says “Case Is Being Actively Reviewed By USCIS” I’m not sure if I should call USCIS or still wait. I’m still within the up-to 120 days that it can take to arrive.
2. The immigration visa stamp on my passport has expired, does that mean that I can’t go back to my home country without getting my green card first ?
thanks!
May 21, 2018 at 23:29
1. Just wait.
2. No – the visa was endorsed when you entered and is good for up to 1 year after endorsement.
May 22, 2018 at 04:52
Dear Simon,
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to you, as I have learned so much from your website. I had my interview last week and got my visa two days later. The information you posted here is really helpful.
I just made the payment for the USCIS immigration fee today. I am planning to land the US on August 16, 2018. However, the problem is that I just learned yesterday that my friend’s address that the green card is supposed to be mailed to will be changed on June 15th, 2018. In this case, what should I do? What do think the likelihood that the green cards will be mailed to this address before June 15th? Or the USCIS office only mails the green-card after our landing? Thank you very much for your help.
May 22, 2018 at 05:16
THe GCs are only sent after you pay and enter. You can change your address at the arrival airport.
May 22, 2018 at 05:31
Hi BritSimon
I have read many of your blogs but I am unable to find the answer to my question, apologies if you have answered it on a page I haven’t read yet..
When I submitted my DV19 application I was separated from my husband but still legally married, so I included him on my submission as per their very clear rules. Since then my divorced has been finalized and we are no longer married.
I have been lucky enough to be selected for further processing but I’m not sure what to do for his DS260, any information would be greatly appreciated.
May 22, 2018 at 05:39
YOu are divorced now, so you do not submit his DS260. AS simple as that.
May 22, 2018 at 06:12
Dear Simon
my case No is 2018AF34xxx I have submitted Ds260 and I got the confirmation number, but I have not yet received the 60 days latter what is the problem
May 22, 2018 at 14:02
Patience.
May 22, 2018 at 07:10
Hi Simon, Its seems that the KCC does not want us to submit any documents online for DV2019, I finished the DS-260 for and I got this statement:(attached below)
Thank You
Your Immigrant Visa and Alien Registration Application (DS-260) was sent to the Kentucky Consular Center (KCC) for
review.
Next Steps
All Diversity Visa applicants must:
1. Obtain required supporting civil documents.
2. Obtain photographs that meet the Department of State’s visa requirements.
3. Review the information specific to the U.S. Embassy/Consulate General where your visa interview will occur.
You do not need to submit any documentation to the Kentucky Consular Center. The KCC will review your application
and will notify you if any of the information you have provided is insufficient or incomplete. Your DS-260 application
will be kept on file with KCC until a visa number is available for you and your case can be scheduled. When your case
is scheduled, the KCC will send you an email message directing you to log into the Entrant Status Check (ESC)
website for further instructions.
Is this the first time they don’t want scanned documents to be uploaded? Thanks
May 22, 2018 at 14:00
No – all normal.
June 26, 2020 at 09:21
Hi , I received the same message after summiting DS260 for DV2021 — . So did you finally summit any documents? what was your next communications o experience? Thanks in advance.
May 22, 2018 at 08:12
Dear Simon,
Have you heard experiences from people who were in trouble going back to the US after 6 months out of the country?
Normally, the legal limit is 1 year but I read that it is possible the immigration doesn’t appreciate if you return after 6 months out.
Thanks in advance.
May 22, 2018 at 13:59
After 6 months you may be questioned more rigorously. Just be prepared to give honest answers.
May 22, 2018 at 08:48
Good morning Birt!
What is I-797 Notice of Action? For AOS said to include it. In the same time said it send when you submit the application. how come.
May 22, 2018 at 13:58
You probably don’t have one. You should be following the spreadsheet guide on the immigration forum – are you?
May 22, 2018 at 20:16
Yes I follow the spreadsheet.
So I sent the package without the I-797?
how some people receive it?
May 22, 2018 at 20:21
I don’t know. Just follow the spreadsheet.
May 22, 2018 at 08:54
Hi Simon,
two questions:
1. I guess at this point in time for DV2018 you will not make another of your estimates of next numbers becoming current (as two months only are remaining…)?
2. I am asking you this obvioulsy because I get now very nervous as I have EU234XX and not sure if it will be ok, your idea please? Please no w&s……. 🙂
Best regards and thanks for your time
May 22, 2018 at 13:56
1. Correct.
2. Patience.
May 22, 2018 at 09:24
Hi Brit, for the interview, should I bring a letter from the bank, with the amount that I have in savings? Or should I bring a statement from the last month?
Thank you!
May 22, 2018 at 13:55
Statements
May 22, 2018 at 14:33
One month is enough?
May 22, 2018 at 14:36
More is better
May 22, 2018 at 10:14
Let me guess what Brit will answer. Did you read my post about quotas? 🙂 Really, it explanes why estimation does not make any sense right now. Everything is possible. Your number seems to be safe, but who knows…

Britsimon, 1.can I have my National Examinations Council send my verified high school Diploma to USA embassy where my interview will take place even before I get my 2nl to avoid delay later?
I have a strong feeling that my number will be in next VB.

Hi Brit,
From your instructions we understand that after filling the DS260 we should wait for a mail regarding our interview.
But from the DS260 instructions it clearly states that you should contact the USCIS for scheduling an appointment, we are a bit confused.
In addition our case number is 2019A3 – when should we expect the mail? we currently live in the states, does it make the process easier?
Thanks!
V
May 22, 2018 at 13:37
You are talking about two different processes. ONe is Consular processing (abroad), the other is adjustment of status (in the USA). So – decide which process you are using. Also – that partial number you gave is useless to me. It is the confirmation number, not your case number.
May 22, 2018 at 14:36
Thanks for the reply, So I might didn’t fully get the process, so here is a short explanation.
Currently we already lives in the US, yesterday i’ve checked the DV lottery and found out we have been selected.
We filled in the DS-260’s for both of us and my question is actually what are the next steps, you got me confused with the case numbers and confirmation number, in the DV lottery site i see that they state it as a case number , the full number is 2019A31XX am i getting it wrong?
What are the next steps after filling the DS260?
Thanks!
V
May 22, 2018 at 23:03
You really need to slow down and learn what you are doing.
First, I do not recommend you submit your DS260 if you have not already done so. Learn what you are doing first.
Second. You need to decide between adjustment of status of Consular processing. You can’t do that if you don’t know anything.
Third. You got yourself confused with your number. It should have another letter after the 2019 before the number – perhaps it is AS or AF – it denotes the region.
Fourth. READ the lottery guide linked above.
May 22, 2018 at 23:25
Thanks for the reply – our case number is correct, i just didnt write the whole number which is: 2019AS3XXX, you are right you are answering questions for all years and not only the most recent one.
We have already submitted the DS260, why dont you suggest to do so? we dont have any other plans other than adjustment of status so actually this was my main reason asking here, sorry for the confusion.
As far as i understand we need to check DOS Visa Bulletin site and see our numbers and if their are already valid after that we will need to do adjustment of status and this is it from what is quoted below:
——————
Diversity Visa Winners Legally Residing In the United States: Apply Through USCIS
There are, however, a small number of lottery winners each year who, at the time of “winning the lottery,” are residing in the United States in a nonimmigrant or other legal status. For these winners residing inside the United States, USCIS processes adjustment of status applications. The following information applies to winners legally residing in the United States only:
I guess it is a different situation than what you had, i haven’t found the right information in the lottery guide – for instance we dont have the 2NL mail for us.
May 23, 2018 at 04:47
You can learn about the AOS process by studying the spreadsheet linked from the first post of the thread below.

Hello Mr Simon
please i am abit disturbed and need help, forgive me if i ask a silly question or repeated question.
1) i haven’t received my 2NLs yet but some numbers above me are showing ready on the ceac data updated while mine is not even there figuring there talk less of showing on transit, is there any cause to fear.
2) does the processing follow dates of submission of DS260?
3) if yes, does it mean my case is delayed because i did correction in February?
4) are we possibly still waiting and hoping for another batch of 2NLs for July?
thanks in advance for your answers and for your continues help to us all.
May 22, 2018 at 14:32
1. No reason to fear. Just be patient.
2. No
3. No
4. Yes
May 22, 2018 at 14:26
Hi Brit, i have pre selected for the diversity program and my case number is 2019AS000143** I am under F1 student visa and my husband is under F2 dependent visa. Can we adjust the status while we are in USA ?
May 22, 2018 at 14:34
Yes
May 22, 2018 at 14:43
According the USCIS there are 3 requirements.
1. Have been selected for a diversity visa by DOS’s lottery;
2. Have an immigrant visa immediately available at the time of filing an adjustment application (Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent 3. Residence or Adjust Status)
Are admissible to the United States.
But my F1 and my dependent F2 visa status are non immigrant visa. Could you please explain
May 22, 2018 at 15:02
Obviously, I know what your F1/F2’s are. You need to learn about the process – but you have at least 1 year to wait – so plenty of time.
May 22, 2018 at 14:28
Hello,
Thank u so much for your helping. I am 2018 winner and my case number AF49***. I live in USA, so my case is adjustment of status. Can I do anything to speed up the process or it should be current first?
May 22, 2018 at 14:34
You have to be current first.
May 22, 2018 at 14:35
To clarify, you can file when you see your number is current on the VB.
May 22, 2018 at 14:53
What do you mean by file ? I’m sorry I’m confused. Do you recommend me to submit DS260 now ?
May 22, 2018 at 15:04
DO NOT submit the DS260 yet. Wait. Learn.
May 22, 2018 at 15:22
2018 EU280XX brit can you see a chance for me about taking interview date ?
May 22, 2018 at 17:08
I don’t know. Wait and see.
May 22, 2018 at 16:06
Hi Mr Simon I hope you keep well
My wife has won a green card
But we have a problem
We have got our marriage certifcate and she took my surname (Allahverdiyev)10.05.2017
But When she has applied for green card she has written her own surname(Qahramanova) but she should have applied for green card with my Surname as she got my surname in marriage certificate
What do you think ? Can they make it a problem to not give a visa ???
Have you seen this kind of think ?
In advance
May 22, 2018 at 17:09
Both names will be shown on the DS260. It’s fine.
May 22, 2018 at 16:32

Hello Brit! First of all thank u for ur priceless help! I’m 2018 Dv winner here in ethiopia and I had my interview 2 wks ago and I was fortunate that my visa was approved and I was told to collect my visa after weeks. Eventhough my passport is with them for visa issuance I have got email from consuler office in addis abeba which says that I have send them my my original passport to process my case! I had emailed them frequently and tried to call them but still they are insisting me to send my passport! I think I’m the only one whose passport is disappeared in american embassy! Have any idea on this? Should I acquire new passport with the same number or something else?
I eagerly waiting ur comment b/c I’m dispaired!
May 22, 2018 at 21:01
This is not a common thing. I don’t have any advice on how to resolve it.
May 26, 2018 at 16:22
hello sir! I have asked about lost passport in embassy 4 days back! The big problem I faced is after the embassy insinted me to send my passport frequently I requested immigration office for new passport as if my old one was lost but after I applied for new passport the embassy called me informed me that they found my passport with apology and told me also my visa is printed. After I told them I had already applied for new passport, they appointed me the next monday to print my visa on new passport but it available after two weeks! What I want to know is is there any problem if I ignore their appointment and use both passport one for visa and the other for travelling?
May 26, 2018 at 18:46
Follow their instructions.
May 22, 2018 at 21:23
Hi BritSimon, my interview is going to happen 2 weeks before my medical (there is a waitlist for US medicals). Do I need to inform anyone prior to the interview? I assume I get rejected at the interview and possibly approved when the medical arrives? Lastly how would I know if I ‘passed’ the medical?
May 22, 2018 at 22:55
Inform them at the medical. You will be on AP until the medical arrives. The physician will mention if something is a problem.
May 22, 2018 at 21:26
hi brit Sam can embassy accept result slip high school during interview time?
May 22, 2018 at 22:56
I don’t know. It depends on the education system and the embassy.
May 22, 2018 at 22:48

Hi Simon,
Sorry if I missed this.
But once you get to USA (let’s say everything went fine and you got visa for 6 months)
I am wondering do you have to live in USA straight away, I know you have to go there before your visa expired (6 months visa), but if you will get permanent visa once you arrived can you leave country and let’s say come back in one year?
Thanks

May 23, 2018 at 06:02
Hi.
i was not the one who did my entry.
the guy at the cafe typographer error.
1,
1992 instead of 1996
2.for my husband, June 7 instead of June 8
and place of birth Monrovia instead of Bong Mines.
How can we defend these errors?
May 23, 2018 at 13:46
You are responsible for you own entry, no matter whop typed it. Take responsibility!
Make the data accurate on the DS260.
May 23, 2018 at 06:06
Hello,
I am randomly selected for DV 2019. I am the main applicant for this case. I had entered that I have a spouse and a child when I submitted the lottery back in 2017. My spouse had overstayed his US visa when he was young, and is currently still undergoing his 10 year bar from entering the States. Will my Green card application be disqualified since my spouse had once overstayed his Visa?
May 23, 2018 at 13:47
No.
May 24, 2018 at 00:42
If my spouse is not migrating with me to the States with me at the same time since he still has the bar, then does he still need to attend the interview with me?
May 24, 2018 at 01:02
If you are the selectee, then No. As long as you understand it will take about 2 years to sponsor him later.
May 28, 2018 at 01:01
Hi brit,
Thank you for your answers. Since my spouse still has to serve his bar from entering the US, would you suggest that I attend the interview myself or together? I’m afraid that if we attend the interview together, my dv visa will not be approved if they look at my spouse’s case.
May 28, 2018 at 04:58
His bar doesn’t affect your case.
May 23, 2018 at 06:11
Hi Simon,
I need to get a Japanese Police Certificate as I lived there for 12 months.
The Japanese consulate apparently requires a letter stating the requirement for the certificate . It seems that I am unlikely to get a letter stating my requirements as as far as I can tell as it won’t be in 1NL or 2NL? What do you suggest I do?
I can print the page from the website but not sure they will accept it as it isn’t addressed to me specifically. Any suggestions would be great?
May 23, 2018 at 13:48
1. Follow instructions on the reciprocity page for Japan.
2. Provide the 1NL/2NL
3. Contact KCC.
May 23, 2018 at 06:15
Dear Brit,
How to know if the CO will ask me to support form i 134 or not?
May 23, 2018 at 13:49
You only know at the interview. So – wise people overprepare.
May 23, 2018 at 07:12
Hey,
I won dv lottery 2019 as single. I am in a serious relationship with my boyfriend for 5 years and now i wanna take him with me. For now i will fill DS260 form as single and then i will marry my boyfriend and will request kcc to unlock and add him along with our marriage certificate and his documents.
so it is possible yes?
doing this won’t put us in any kind of risk(disqualification)?
I just wanna be sure that this is possible and won’t risk our visa!

It is possible as long as the relationship and marriage is real.

Hi Brit,
hope you are doing fine, please help me with this crucial question: just won the DV 2019, case number: AF46**, the problem is i made a mistake on my date of birth which i just realised while trying to fill DS260, instead of 26/01/19** i put 28/01/19** when registering for the DV 2019, meanwhile my real date of birth is 26/01/19**, can i update it on DS260 or am i automatically disqualified? need your answer to take a decision, either to continue or stop it right there.
Thank’s

You can correct it in the DS260. If there are no fraud concerns, they will accept the change.

Hi Simon,
Thank you for the amazing blog, found a lot of useful information and spent the day reading and learning about the DV process. I have tried to leave a comment on another topic, but that wasn’t the right place and it didn’t show up as well.
I have been selected in the DV2019 and already submitted a DS-260 form. I am from Europe and my number starts with EU and is around 5000. However, I live in Asia and I have requested to have my interview here, but I have found out that from the past years, this number is pretty high here.
My question is, how are they going to schedule my interview? Are they going to follow the trend for EU numbers or Asian numbers? If I change the interview to Europe, will that be better?
Thanks a lot for your posts

I am not Simon nor respond on his behalf; but this is a common “issue” if you ever read the previous post/comments/questions and answers. You are not alone and this seems not to be a problem. You just have to wait the second batch of 2NLs in two or 3 weeks.
Good lucky and good preparation for your coming interview.

Please read some of the other questions and answers rather than asking every question that pops into your head, even when I answer 20 similar questions each day!
