Dear Simon,
I have a question regarding sponsorship. The sponsor can be only one physical person, right?
And this person, among other, should fill i134 including his annual income and also his spouse should fill i134 for her income.
So they should declare the respective incomes independently from each other, correct?
Now, as I understand it, only the sponsor should meet the requirement of having higher incomes than the poverty level in i864p. And the income of his spouse are not required to be above that level of poverty in i864p. Have I understood correctly?
Thank you.
June 15, 2018 at 18:29
First. DO NOT USE the I-864.
The one I-134 is filled out by ONE person. If married, that person can list joint income.
June 15, 2018 at 18:39
Hi Simon,
With i864p i meant only as a reference for the 125% poverty levels. Or shouldn’t I look there?
With joint income you mean that the sponsor can fill the i134 with the sum of his income plus his spouse income?
And in this case, how should the spouse fill her i134?
Thank you.
June 15, 2018 at 18:43
ONE I-134. ONE!
Take 125% for extra caution.
June 15, 2018 at 18:42
Hi Simon,
This year’s cut off number for Europe for August is only around 23,000. That is a half of the usual risk number. Do you know by any chance what might me the reason? Mine is EU29,000 for 2019, and I am very worried now.
Thanks a lot in advance!
June 15, 2018 at 18:45
I have written many articles about this – please go and read them if you are interested.
As for DV2019, we don’t know enough yet to know anything. Patience.
June 15, 2018 at 18:47
Thank you so much, will do!
June 15, 2018 at 20:42
Hello brit! I’m still in this stressful and very challeging journey, my case is 2018SA191X do you think i have a chance?
June 15, 2018 at 20:51
It seems highly risky at this point (as it has always been).
June 15, 2018 at 21:09
Hi Brit I am “24000 for EU my number will come out in the last bulletin? Or seldom could I not be taken?
June 15, 2018 at 21:37
Wait and see. Really.
June 15, 2018 at 21:19
Hey Brit,
I’m very happy to announce that our visas finally have been approved couple days ago. Could you please tell me how long does the green card take to come to our mailing adress in US? The process starts from the date we pay the 220$ USCIS fee or from the date we enter US? Thank you Brit
June 15, 2018 at 21:37
Entry and payment. It can take UP to 3 or 4 months
June 15, 2018 at 21:21
Hi Simon, I see that because of the ban you just mention, you say that OC and SA might exceed their previous expected numbers (so people with borderline high cases just got some good news), so for SA you expect not to be cuurrent?, you mention previusly 1700, do you think it will be higher? Thank You
June 15, 2018 at 21:33
1700 was a “possible”. not certain. It could be slightly higher – but wait and see.
June 15, 2018 at 21:23
Hi Brit,
How many visas will be issued for EU 2018 winners? Is it 18000?
If so, till now us you mentioned in your comment 14000 is issued, so there is additional 4K, and this month only 1.4K visa bulletins are opened… So with this approach can we say that for September they may open 3K or more visa bulletins?
Additionally do you think that chances are not too bad for EU251XX?
Thanks!
June 15, 2018 at 21:35
No. The VB today was for August interviews. June and July are already scheduled – and they will add to the 14k.
The quota is 18300 (at 50000 global). So – in order to get more numbers next month, the quota will need to be exceeded.
June 15, 2018 at 22:08
Simon fab work!
Quick questions.
A. DV2019AS42xx Japan (principal with 3 derivatives)
B. Submitted DS-260 late May 2018
C. Resided in US, UK, France, Switzerland, Japan; all police reports obtained (except US)
D. All other pertinent documents in place
E. Previous data indicate 2019 Feb/Mar/Apr for interview in Tokyo, Japan
F. Plan to travel to US with family in Oct 2018 for vacation on ESTA visa waiver
1. When would KFC likely process my DS-260?
2. If KFC process my DS-260 after Oct. 2018, I intend to unlock DS-260 and revise “Last 5 visits to US” section. Is it a “must” to make this amendment prior to the interview? Any leeway about additional visit not being on DS-260 during embassy interview?
3. If KFC processed my DS-260 before Oct 2018, can I unlock DS-260 to amend the “Visits to US” section?
Thanks!
June 15, 2018 at 23:16
1. That doesn’t really matter.
2. It is not a must.
3. Yes you can unlock if not already scheduled.
June 15, 2018 at 23:50
Hi

June 16, 2018 at 01:06
I can’t give a 100% certain answer. It depends on the CO – but if I were you I would obtain copies of the documents.
June 16, 2018 at 07:45
My case goes under AP from May 16 to Jun 14 . On Jun 15, it turns to Ready which is the status before my interview and I’m not the only one like this happened.please help me to understand Mr. Brit.

The question was
my interview is on July.
A most three weeks to go.
But when I revised my ds 260 recently
I found out a mistake in converting a date from Ethiopian calender to gregorisn calender. Is it possible to correct the ds 260 now when the interview is due in about three weeks

June 16, 2018 at 13:11
Contact the embassy to see if it is OK
June 16, 2018 at 11:57
Hello Brit,
In your last post you mentioned about delays in interviews in embassies? What about adjustment of status? I’m 2018SA166X, so I am expecting to file by the end of July
June 16, 2018 at 13:06
AOS is a totally different process. The speed of DV AOS varies greatly, case by case.
June 18, 2018 at 14:46
Thanks, but assuming that I am doing AOS, do you think I can make it having 2018SA166X and filing by the end of July? Could it happen that I pay the fees and it is not processed by the end of fiscal year?
June 18, 2018 at 19:49
Like I said – it varies. I cannot predict what will happen in your case.
Yes you could pay the fees and not get approved in time.
June 16, 2018 at 16:13
Hello Brit Simon..please can they fill the DS260 form without a passport??.
June 16, 2018 at 17:13
Yes
July 7, 2018 at 16:08
Hi Brit, can you explain briefly what might be the reasons for denial after its confirm approved byt the CO.
July 7, 2018 at 16:39
Various reasons. Cases are reviewed after the interview by supervisors.
June 16, 2018 at 16:19

Hello Brit,
I know your answer – wait and see… but
have I any chances 2018EU293xx…? Pleaseee
Do you know may be KCC has exceptions for people like me who is working at US company, was leaving in US, paid IRS, etc.?
Thank you!
June 16, 2018 at 17:51
There are no exceptions. If your case number doesn’t go current next VB you won’t get an interview.
No – will your case number go current. My guess is no, but wait and see.

June 16, 2018 at 19:06
Hi there,
My cousin has been selected for US lottery visa program (DV). He will be scheduled for an interview around October 2019. His wife and kids will go with him to the consulate’s interview.
his kids are under 14 years old.
Will his kids get their own stamped visa and physical green card separatly or they will be included with their parents passport?
for some reasons, after receiving their green card, they will have o go back to their home counry for a length ime. What’s maximun time can they stay outside US without denying the reentry?
Thank you in advance!
June 16, 2018 at 19:20
I think you must mean October 2018, not 2019.
Kids need their own passport, and will have their own visa/Green Card.

Hello Simon,
I kindly request your assistance and advice.

Regrettably when I tried to login to the visa application portal with the case number, name and date of birth details In get a message that “the case information entered does not match our records ” please try again or contact Kentucky. Although I get this message at the portal but it shows I am signed into as it display sign out option but still I can’t access or see DS 260 form online.
I wrote email and tried telephone call kentucky to help in this matter but unsuccessful.
I appreciate your help.

Hi Brit,
I’ve lived in USA for 2 years now. My case got current in most recent VB. My question is do I need police certificate from USA for my two years of stay in the country. I’m going back to my country to attend the visa interview with my parents and am not doing a AOS
Thanks in advance!
June 17, 2018 at 00:54
No police certs for USA needed. Please read the instructions. If you had, you would not need to ask that, and since you haven’t, who knows what else you are missing.
June 17, 2018 at 02:49
Hi sir what does it mean ?YOUR CASE IS CURRENTLY AT KCC ,i read so in CEAC as i checked the first page where i am asked to fill ds 260 knowing that i already filled ds260 it is just i want to have a look on that CEAS portal.
June 17, 2018 at 02:52
Nothing – ALL cases say that prior to scheduling
June 17, 2018 at 02:55
Thanks so it means that the interview date is ready to be announced soon?
June 17, 2018 at 05:58
Hey Simon,
I would like to thank you for the efforts you are doing to get successfull. I lost my sleep bothering whethe i have to unlock and make a revision or it’s no problem better to wait my interview. My case is
In my passport it asks place of birth then i filled the sub province name so it appears like that.On the other hand, in my Ds-260 it asks city of birth which is the specefic town i was born. However, thinking that it shoud be the same with the place i proviin my passport i fill the place appeared in my passport instead of the specefic town i provideim my orginal application. But now i get obsessed fearing that it could be a Reason for my disqualification. Please help me!
June 17, 2018 at 18:34
No need to worry. No need to change the DS260.

Hi simon;
Case number 2019Axxx41000. Do I have a chance to be call for interview.
June 17, 2018 at 18:30
DV2018 still processing… no one can predict what will happen with DV2019 yet. Just wait no need to be so eager. It’s a long process (from 12 to 24 months almost from registering to dv to the end of the fiscal year+last interviews)
June 17, 2018 at 18:38
Probably – but that is at least 1 year away – so relax and read the FAQ
June 17, 2018 at 10:24
Hi Brit,
Thank you for your selfless devotion and relentless effort to assist DV winners throughout the process!
I am a DV 2019 winner from Ghana. Please l wanted to know if I have to pay the visa application fee to obtain an invoice number before I can start filling the DS 260 or l can fill out the form and pay later at the embassy before the interview.
June 17, 2018 at 18:40
You pay at the interview.
June 17, 2018 at 10:55
Is the employment section in ds260 important? I havent mentioned several companies where i worked for only about a month, i guess it wont be a problem?
June 17, 2018 at 18:41
No problem. Being truthful matters.
June 17, 2018 at 11:25
My case was approved on January 3rd 2018 and sent to nvc. At ceac.state.gov website it shows that my case is at Nvc. My priority date is 2nd Jan 2013,i don’t know how long I gonna wait. Please does anyone have an idea?

June 17, 2018 at 14:11
Hi Simon
Dv2018af51*** .I filled my passport details in the place of my spouse and son’s passport since they had delays in insuring them. Since AF is current now
Should I open Ds-260 and correct with the new passports now or just go to interview with out correcting .Any risk? Thanks
June 17, 2018 at 18:27
If you’re current then you’ll be scheduled for an interview. When scheduled for an interview, you can’t unlock anymore so you’ll have to proceed to the changes during the interview and present both old and new passports
June 17, 2018 at 18:44
You had plenty of time to do that!
Anyway – now, just do it at the interview.
June 17, 2018 at 15:16
Happy fathers day, simon
I have question, i’m winner Of Dv lottery 2018. I did fingerprints but I’m waiting for interview, my question is could i do my interview after 09/31/2018 or not ? Because process so slow
June 17, 2018 at 18:25
There is no September 31st and all visas have to be issued before 09/30 of the fiscal year or the selectees will lose their opportunity to get a DV/GC. AOS process is less “safe” than CP so you’ll have to wait but if by 09/30 you haven’t received your Visa then it’s over. Still 3 months and half to go so there’s still hope
June 19, 2018 at 00:23
Thank you for worth information, Aos under process but I didn’t reschedule for interview because of process going slow. I walk to uscis office they said you can schedule of interview after fiscal year is over!!! Is that correct
June 19, 2018 at 01:07
No!
June 17, 2018 at 18:45
No DV2018 interviews will happen after September 30, 2018.
June 17, 2018 at 17:12
Hi sir, does this statement mean the case number is current and subject to be scheduled (YOUR CASE IS CURRENTLY AT KCC). Thank you,
June 17, 2018 at 18:22
Refer to the VB in order to know if your number is current. If your case number is below the cut off numbers of the VB then you’ll be scheduled for an interview. If not then you’ll have to wait
June 17, 2018 at 18:47
No it doesn’t mean anything. It is the standard message.
June 17, 2018 at 17:33
Hello Brit… will my spouse and my small twin kids need passports each after adding them on my DS-260 appending interview?
June 17, 2018 at 18:20
Passport mandatory for every single person would will travel to the US to get a GC. Babies included.
June 17, 2018 at 18:48
They need their own passports AND a DS260 for each person.
June 17, 2018 at 17:48
Dear Brit
My question is with regards to affidavit of support.
Can my sponsor in USA scan the affidavit of support and supporting documents to me?
Secondly what are the required supporting documents for the affidavit of support?
Kind regards
June 17, 2018 at 18:19

I’m from IRAQ..what about the form l-134 …must my sponsor submit it??? or I must wait the 2NL from the embassy to ask me about it????

If you plan to have an I-134 you take it (with supporting docs) to the interview.

Hi Simon,
I was selectee for the dv2019 and I completed my ds260 almost a month ago.
However I recently checked the photo I used for the lottery application and I’m quite worried.
Even if the size, dimension and size of the head are ok I noticed that there is a small shadow coming from my head, behind my neck, and also as the lighting of the room came from the ceiling, light shadows over my eyes coming from my brow bone, but eyes still clearly visible.
Should I worry about that ? Is kcc will advise regarding this or only the embassy officer ?
Many thks
June 17, 2018 at 20:00
You are worrying over trivial details. Stop.
June 17, 2018 at 20:05
this for you quick answer Simon ! Have a good Sunday
June 17, 2018 at 23:11
Hello Brit, am quiet new to your cite. my mum was given a dv lottery visa for the dv lottery 2018, and she is coming to the united states in 2weeks time; I am currently an F1 Student here in the united States. However, in February this year (2018), my international Student Advisor emailed me that I was out of Status for taking a developmental class for it didn’t not count as a credit class. Which I didn’t know about it until she told me. My Question is that, should I go ahead and apply for reinstatement or I should just wait for my mum to come in 2weeks to apply for a green card for me through the eligibility: single daughter 21years and older? Your reply will be appreciated. Tina. Z.
June 18, 2018 at 03:41
Your mother should not plan to come here and adjust status – that would be a massive mistake (entering with immigrant intent can be seen as fraud). You should process in the home country.

June 18, 2018 at 01:05
Hello Brit Simon please can submit the DS260 form without a passport??
June 18, 2018 at 03:41
Yes. Read the form.
June 18, 2018 at 02:01
Yes you can can.. just select ‘Other travel documents’ on the ofrm and submit it. You can show the actual passport during the day of interview. Thats what I did.. living in the states now. Good luck. Always know: Present the truth and believe everything will be excellent. Good luck.
June 18, 2018 at 03:42
It is unwise to do exactly as you suggest. It is safer to add the passport to the application later, before interview.
June 18, 2018 at 02:40
Hi Simon,
many thanks for your service. You are really doing a great job.
I am a selectee of dv2019 and my case# is 2019EU24XXX. I´ve submitted my ds-260 on May 21st. Today I went through the copy of my ds-260 and realised that I have done two minor mistakes. I have wrote a wrong date in two of my jobs. Everything is correct, the position, company, country. But instead of the year 2015 I accidently wrote 2016. What can I do about that? I don´t want to be disqualified because of an minor mistake. Can I contact the KCC and make them change the date. I see ppl are talking about “unlocking” the ds form. What is that and am able to do that as well?
Many thanks in advanced.
June 18, 2018 at 03:43
Read the FAQ about unlocking.
June 18, 2018 at 06:55
Hello Brit,
What is the Below question referring to ? …. I am Currently not in US …Shall I select No ?
Is your Mailing address the same as your Present Address?
Thanks In Advance!
June 18, 2018 at 13:49
Mailing address – where you receive mail NOW
Present address – where you live NOW
June 18, 2018 at 07:02
Pls is it true that you have get all your Shs results correct before you can qualify for lottery after u have won the lottery
June 18, 2018 at 13:50
You have to meet the requirements of the embassy – I don’t track those requirements for every embassy. But yes – meeting the requirements is essential.
June 18, 2018 at 07:16
Good morning, I am really sorry to bother you again but I have another query that you might be able to help me with. I am in the process of applying for a Police Clearance Certificate from South Africa (absolute nightmare!) and have been asked if I would need the document Apostillised (notarised?) for the Embassy here in the UK. Do you think this is necessary? I am just worried about turnaround times now and don’t want to get this wrong. Many thanks again for all your help.
June 18, 2018 at 13:51
No.
June 18, 2018 at 07:23
Hi Brit.
If we have new passports issued before our scheduled interview, can we just bring them to the Embassy to the interview or is it necessary to unlock DS260 to change because the form was filled with old passport info (assuming the apps have to been sent to the US Embassy and we do not have our interview date set)? Would this create any problem? Thanks.
PS I am asking this because our passports would expire 8 months after entering US on immigrant visa and it is very complicated to have new passports done at our embassy in Washington. It is then much better for us just to apply for new ones at home a year or so before the passport expires.
June 18, 2018 at 08:12
Or can we make new passports after we have immigrant visas issued in our old ones and then just take both passports to the US with us? Would that create a problem?
June 18, 2018 at 13:52
No problem.
June 21, 2018 at 13:24
We are also similar situation but back in our country after our activation trip in June. Planning our permanent trip in November. Is it OK to renew our ENDORSED AND ADMITTED passports which are expiring in January 2019 and travelling with both passports since our GCs not on hand? Or it is not a good idea?
SL HOPE
Thanks a lot !
June 21, 2018 at 13:45
As long as you get the old passport back – it’s OK.
