Hi everyone!
I have an interview schedule in September at Paris, FR. I had a question about the documents asked, if anyone can help me. I was wondering if Plurilingual extract delivered by the city hall was enough and accepted as a translation for the birth certificate as they are asking for a translation.
Thanks again for all the informations on this website.
August 30, 2018 at 22:35
If the document is in French and you interview in France, you don’t need the translation.

Hello Brit
A friend of mine got the dv LOTTERY 2019, but the problem Is during the sign up october 2017 she mentioned that she Is single but in fact she got married since 2012.
She said i have proofs that my husband sent me divorce letter, but legally still married.
According to Your knowledge Is that a certain denial or they Give her a chance?
Thank u For ur answer in advance
August 29, 2018 at 18:40
Denial is certain.

August 29, 2018 at 20:13
Dear sir
Now my frind found a typing mistake on his ds260
he graduated on 2001 but on the ds260 he types 2000
1-Can he modify it at the day of interview?as his number to close to be current and he don’t want to re-open the application to avoid any delays.
2-If no can he ignoring this mistake?
His interview will be at Cairo embassy .
August 29, 2018 at 20:32
1. Yes – although it is a small risk.
2. Again – that is also a small risk.
Best method – unlock and update the DS260.

Hello brother Brit
I have a question that makes me Very worried.
I’m a dv LOTTERY 2019 winner, case number 21### with 2Kids and husband.
My problem Is my husband has been in the us since 1995 till 2003, they banned him and got back home.
My question in the ds:
Do i have mention him, and complete His ds name and part?
Even thought he Is not going with us.
Am i going to have a problem, since i’m the principal winner.
Please i need Your advice sir, thank u.
August 29, 2018 at 22:14
You won’t have a problem – and even your husband could emigrate to the US. He might have been banned for 10 years – but that ban would be over now.
August 29, 2018 at 23:12
Hi Brit,
As I mentioned before I’m planning to activate my Green Card for two weeks and travel back out of US. To finalize my job requirements and collect my rights…etc…
That is fine as you told me..
But I beleive that keeping Green Card rules are different than Naturalization!
If I stay about 7 months (more than 6 months) out of US. and then I enter US. I think that is fine for keeping my Perminant Residence…. BUT:
1- Does this will belongs to (over six months staying out of US. Rule) which effect the Naturalization application later on?
2- If yes, to be in the safe side for Naturalization, shall I fill or apply for any leave form?
3- Finally, Must I try to finalize my stuff if I can in exactly 6 months out of states?
Thank you honey
August 29, 2018 at 23:19
1. Yes. Naturalization is based on continuous residence. If you spend long periods out of the USA it will take you longer to qualify to become a citizen.
2. That won’t help. See 1.
3. Either way, just imagine the 5 year clock will start when you return.
August 29, 2018 at 23:40
Regarding number 3,
Do you mean the clock of 5 years counting will start when I get back to US. After my first re-entry?
I was thinking it is start counting once I landed in US. From the first time!
Could you please clarify this point more plz..
August 30, 2018 at 05:07
I’m not an expert on the citizenship process, so please rely on your own investigations.
August 30, 2018 at 11:51
If you are absent from the U.S. for more than 183 days, then the clock on the 5 years will start again. Let’s say that you spent at least 183 continuous days in the United States for 4 years – then you are absent for more than that – you will have to start the clock again and the first 4 years will not count. So, if you enter for the first time and then don’t stay in the U.S. for 183 days, then the clock will start at the second time you enter, provided you then stay at least 183 days.
August 30, 2018 at 01:29
Dear Sir, I am 2018 winner from AS and on AP since 7th Aug. because of medicals. What will happhap if it continues to September? Thanks.
August 30, 2018 at 05:08
I don’t know what the outcome will be.
August 30, 2018 at 05:19
Thanks for the reply Sir. I am not asking about the outcome. I remember the you had explained that at the end of each month, visas that are not issued, must be returned to the KCC and again will have to be allocated. In that case is it still possible for us to have visas Sir?
August 30, 2018 at 07:05
Strange,
If your case will be cleared from AP in August – you highly probable to get visa number and accordingly visa. But if it will be cleared in September, it will depend on available visa number at your embassy due to september’s refusal by other case or KCC willingness to send the available visa number from previous months. But if your case will be cleared too late – KCC probably will not able to send it in time.
Good day!
August 30, 2018 at 07:12
Thanks Yoojin. According to Xarthias’s data all interviews for our embassy have been done. There are 8 AP cases including ours. 4 are ready. As Mr Simon says, we can only wait and see. Best regards
August 30, 2018 at 13:57
Obviously, yes.
August 30, 2018 at 07:43
HI BritSimon greetings My case was put on AP when I had my interviews (no reason given but I submitted all necessary documents) on august 4th but since then it has been update on 6th, 22nd and 30th August. what does this mean, if there is any progress on the case what will appear on the visa website when everything has been resolved and can my case be worked on in September. Regards, Solomon.
August 30, 2018 at 14:00
You cannot infer anything from the updates. All you can do is wait and hope.
August 30, 2018 at 08:01
Dear Simon,
I sent mail to KCC about the login issue and they sent the below message. I don’t understand what they are trying to tell…. I hope my case is still under process…. I will just wait for the 2NL if am lucky.
“We are unable to process your request. You will have an opportunity to view and make any necessary changes to your DS-260 after your initial Diversity Visa interview at a United States Embassy or Consulate. If you need to submit a new DS-260 for a new spouse or child, please contact the Embassy or Consulate where your interview will take place after you receive a scheduling confirmation letter through the Diversity Visa Entrant Status Check system. For changes to an existing DS-260, it is not necessary to contact the Embassy or Consulate in advance.”
Thank you for your Effort in helping us!
August 30, 2018 at 13:19
What is your case number?
August 30, 2018 at 14:01
So – do you need to make changes?

August 30, 2018 at 12:15
Dear Sir,
My aunt did her interview today at Dakar but refused and the reason under section 214(b), but I don’t understant why because this section apply to non immigrant visa
August 30, 2018 at 14:18
That doesn’t apply to DV, so that is not the correct reason for the refusal.
August 30, 2018 at 14:31
I have the paper the officer gave them here wich she sent me via messenger.
Do you think there is any necessity to return to the embassy for that ?
August 30, 2018 at 17:43
It is up to you. The code may be an incorrect code – but I presume the CO explained the reason.
August 30, 2018 at 19:38
PLEASE WHEN IS THE NEXT LOTTERY COME OFF ?
August 30, 2018 at 19:57
Next entry period will be in October.

Hi Brit.
I’m a DV2018 winner and arrived in the US 3 days ago. I was about to pay the $220 fee when suddenly I found out that the required ” A Number ” and the ” Dos case ID ” are missing from my papers.
What should I do?
Is this a technical mistake?
August 30, 2018 at 20:21
Look on your visa.
August 30, 2018 at 20:14
hello simon quick question i got my visa 9august i’m wondering if i should go to the exact adress i put the first day in the consulat or i can go anywhere else and will this cause me problems at the airport ??

but i’m wondering at the aireport when they will check the adress that i put in the consulat when j had an interview( connecticut) meanhile i’m going actually to chicago
can i change the adress when i’m there??
August 31, 2018 at 00:21
You can change the address at the POE if you want.
September 2, 2018 at 20:05
what is the POE ?
and what are the best answers if they ask me at aireport for the reason of adress changement?
September 2, 2018 at 21:24
Port of Entry (arrival airport).
Best answers – the truth! Only the truth.
September 2, 2018 at 20:17
POE : Power Over Ethernet! Lol I am kidding.
POE (Port of Entry): is a a place where one may lawfully enter a country. It typically has border security staff and facilities to check passports and visas, and inspect luggage to assure that contraband is not imported. International airports are usually ports of entry, as are road and rail crossings on a land border. Seaports can be used as ports of entry only if a dedicated customs presence is posted there. The choice of whether to become a port of entry is up to the civil authority controlling the port.
Good lucky.
September 3, 2018 at 11:53
Too bad i didn’t get the exact answer for my question which is ‘ DOES ADRESS CHANGEMENT AT THE POE CAN CAUSE ME PROBLEMS IF YES HOW TO AVOID THEM ?? ‘
and of course i’m telling the truth which is ‘ the person can host me at this the new adress ‘
August 30, 2018 at 20:20

August 31, 2018 at 07:00
Hi Mr Brit Simon,
My case no is 2019EU22….I applied after I got married with my common law-partner, whom I’ve been living with for 3 years. However, in the application form I only stated my last name, without including/adding my husband’s last name. Should I unlock and change the name before the interview?
August 31, 2018 at 14:32
If your name changed from the marriage – then YES, unlock and change the form. Use the other names field for the maiden name.
August 31, 2018 at 14:50
Thanks for the answer. Just to get it right, my name is still the same, it’s only that I forgot to add my husband’s surname. I.e. used to be Mary Smith, now after marriage is Mary Smith Williams and I still aplied as Mary Smith only. Still unlock it, right?
August 31, 2018 at 16:46
Yes. Your name has changed.
August 31, 2018 at 07:06
Hi Mr Brit Simon,
I have 2 questions:
1. My case no is EU201922 and i submitted the application on 12th of Aug… Do you know when shall I expect the invitation for the interview?
2. I submitted application after I got married with my common law-partner whom I’ve been living with since 2013. However, I only stated my last name, without including my husband’s last name. Will this be a problem? Should i email KCC and unlock the DV260 prior to interview?
Thanks in advance,
V

Hi,
I am from Nepal, and My case Number is 2019AS40**.
Once unlocked, I have submitted the DS260 form, Before the maintenance. But now when i try to access my DS260, it says your case number can not be found.
Should I worry of not getting the 2nd letter as per the expected visa bulletin. OR should I contact US embassy as Precaution?
August 31, 2018 at 14:43
The system is not working properly. But you have a long time to wait for your interview anyway, so no need to do anything for now.
August 31, 2018 at 14:38

3-or it is wast of time and they should to avoid the participation of DVD lottery 2020 according to them?
best regards

August 31, 2018 at 17:23
Dear Britsmon

August 31, 2018 at 19:24
1. GC can take a couple of weeks – but up to 4 months.
2. Yes. You may have selected the automatic option in your DS260, in which case it will usually arrive after 2 to 3 weeks. Otherwise go to the SSA office.
3. Yes
August 31, 2018 at 20:12
Hello everyone,
I am currently in US and won 2019 lottery. I signed and submitted DS 260 form on early June . It’s status showed complete. After 2 weeks of maintenance Ceac website, I tried to sign to check status many times it only says “The Case Number entered is currently unavailable. Please try again later or contact the Kentucky Consular Center (KCC) by email ([email protected]) or by phone (Public Inquiry Phone Number 606-526-7500 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. EDT Monday – Friday) for further assistance.”
I contacted to KCC by phone. Reps said “try check again”, “write email”, ” they could not able to check because some tech issue”. Then I decided to write email, and received a reply email 2 days later. It’s basically said ” You can’t change submitted application, you can change or redo it during the interview”. Any one facing this kind of problem? This is normal thing?
August 31, 2018 at 21:25
Others are having the same problem.
Are you adjusting status in the USA – if so – submitting the DS260 is all you needed do – now you just wait for your number to be current and submit your I-485.
If you are doing Cp (outside the USA) then you might need to make changes before your interview – so what is your case number?
January 14, 2019 at 15:05
Hi have you been able to resolve the problem? i am facing the same problem. Can you help me
August 31, 2018 at 20:34
Good day Mr Brit,
Please I am having interview next week but I have a question.
I am the principal and my husband had a child before we got married.though we didn’t include the child in our initial entry nor in the DS260 because he was not living with us at the time of entry. I wish to ask how I can present that case to make it possible that if we are granted the visa we could file in for him later.
Thanks
August 31, 2018 at 21:32
You have asked me about this before – I am AMAZED you still plan to attend your interview. So – take this seriously. Read the link below. Read it twice. Let it sink in.

August 31, 2018 at 21:18
Hello,
I am DV 2018 lottery winner from Africa. My case number af00048*** . I live in usa I did AOS and they sent me biometric appointment . What’s that mean? I think the cut off at 39500, so why they send me biometric appointment ?
August 31, 2018 at 21:35
Because they will only check if you are eligible to get the GC (by the case number) after the interview.
September 1, 2018 at 02:35
Hi Brit,
Now it is clear that DV 2020 will be announced since the Immigration Law has not been changed. I am wondering about what is information source to know earliest the start of DV2020 application period?
Thank you and best regards

Hello Brit
I went for an interview a month ago with my wife. She won the dv lottery so she is the principal applicant. I just checked and her status shows refused but as a derivative mine appears as ready. But after the interview we were told we would be issued a visa in 2 weeks. What I don’t understand now is we were told we would be issued a visa in 2 weeks but it’s a month and 2 days now and she has been refused. Can you help me understand why?
September 1, 2018 at 15:24
I don’t know why she has been refused. Your case depends on hers, so you are also refused.
September 1, 2018 at 07:51
Hello dear simon
i have two things to ask.
1) if a person got selected in dv 2020 but that person lives in USA as asylum seeker and his family lives in his home country can they have separate interviews in both countries.
2) is there any news on dv 2020
Thank you
September 1, 2018 at 15:25
1. That is technically possible, but risky.
2. Not yet.
September 1, 2018 at 11:37
hi brti how to review his initial registration photos after winning dv lottery
September 1, 2018 at 15:35
There is no way.
September 1, 2018 at 13:01
hello Simon,
I just moved to the USA and as a new citizen do you know if we are allowed to drive a car with the driver licence from our original country, because i went to get one at the DMV and they said that they cannot issue one yet as i need my Social security number for them to issue one. (I am waiting for it)
thanks
September 1, 2018 at 15:36
Yes you can drive shor a short time on your foreign license. The time varies by state.
September 1, 2018 at 19:53
Hi Brit, i tried to check visa status today. but its always says its error the mathca code isnt the same as display. do you know the reason? can i call you since i want to ask you some private advise? thank you
September 1, 2018 at 20:29
I checked CEAC (https://ceac.state.gov/CEACStatTracker/Status.aspx) and it worked for me.
Most questions can be asked here, but if there is a TRUE need to ask something privately – email britsimon3 at gmail. From previous questions you have asked though, your case is affected by the ban, and as I told you before he won’t get a visa under the current ban.
September 1, 2018 at 20:36
Thank you for your reply. I just want to ask whether it’s necessary to file I130 form or just wait till end of the process. I live with his family at US and its very hard for me if hes not with me. Iam sorry if i keep asking the question
September 1, 2018 at 21:34
Again, while the travel ban is in force, he will not get a visa. Not through DV, not through family based. It could mean years of being apart. Yes it will be hard on you – so you need to decide whether that is worth it.
September 1, 2018 at 20:40
Whenever i try to check my status its always show The code entered does not match the code displayed on the page.
September 1, 2018 at 21:32
It works. I don’t know you can’t make it work.
September 1, 2018 at 19:56
Mr. Brit,
I am travelling next week to NY to activate my visa. I wanted you help please on my questions:
1. I will be carrying on me(in the airplane) $2500 in cash and my credit card, is it okay? Also will I need to report/declare the money that I hold? I heard there is a form that they give you to complete.
2. I will travel to US through Russia(I will stay in Russia for 3.5 hours). Going to US from Russia, is it okay(because they don’t have good relationships)? Will there be more checking? Also in Russia will I need visa, if you know?
3. I will pay this week the $220 fee to mail my green card. During application, they need: my Alien Registration Number and DCI Case ID? Where can I find these? Can you please give me examples of the two?
Thank you Mr Brit.
September 1, 2018 at 20:30
1. Yes it is OK and they will ask for details in a customs form.
2. No difference.

Thank you Mr Brit.
For DOS case ID and Alien Registration Number at the US embassy in Nepal they gave me a paper that has instructions to pay the $220 fee, but on top right of the paper the DOS case ID and Alien Registration Number are missing- they were not completed with pen from the employee at US embassy.
Can you please explain where to find them and give two examples of them to be sure?
Thank you for your answers.

Hello brit
A female friend of mine needs help urgently. I will be very glad if you can help me to help her. She is a 2019 dv lottery winner . She won through an agent. She has her case number and bypassed the agent to submit her ds260 in july. The agent is demanding money and has therefore threatened to unlock her ds260 and make changes by entering wrong information. I wanted to know if any email address can contact kcc soo far as the person has your case number or only the email u provided in your ds260 . If yes i wanted to know how best she can deal with the situation.thank you in advance.

Hi Brit,
When i fill Ds-260 i wrote Yes. Do you have documentation to establish that you have received vaccinations accordancewith US low? But i think it was wrong. I didn’t had with Us low. My interview will happen early september. What do you recomend? Can i print paper like i wrote wrong at the Ds?
September 1, 2018 at 21:32
It was wrong, but it doesn’t matter. At the medical you will be given any required vaccinations.

Hi Mr. Simon,
First I would like to thank you blog for all the information and help you provided as I and my wife are now LPRs and just entered the US. Somewhere I saw or read that men aged 18-26 are required to register with Military Selective Services. Is it also required for DV winner who obtained green card such as myself?
Thanks

ANY male 18 to 25. DV winners included. That was something you read in the DS260 – you cannot submit the form without reading it.

Ahh that’s where I read it, thank you so much for reminding. I will do ASAP.

Hi .Brit I got married to USA citizen wen I was selected as dv lottery winner, then got my visa and now am in USA.my quiz is if we got divorced Will it affect my permanent resident Card. Reply me back
September 1, 2018 at 22:00
The DV visa is not conditional, whilst a marriage based GC is conditional. So – you don’t make it clear – but if your GC was through DV you cannot lose it for divorce.

You are NOT making it clear. The question is this – did you get the Green Card through the DV lottery? Yes or No?
If yes – there is no problem.
Really – that simple.
