Please i cant find Swaziland (which is my birth country) in the drop down list of the DV 2020 Lottery form. What should I do
October 17, 2018 at 14:46
Your King has renamed your country, so you have to pick “Eswatini”.
October 22, 2018 at 12:26
Thank you so much. Please My Ghanaian parents gave birth to me in Eswatini but are not natives of Eswatini. I came to Ghana when i was 3 years old and i have lived in Ghana eversince with my parents. I also own a Ghanaian passport. My question is should i claim Ghana as country of eligibility?
October 22, 2018 at 16:54
As long as you have a birth cert that shows your place of birth as Eswatini – then that is your country of chargeability.

Hello sir, my sister’s name does not carry our family/last name. So her name is- “A.B” There is no “C” which is the family/last name.
How do I fill family/last name on the dv2020 entry form bc it looks like it is not optional.
Thanks.
October 17, 2018 at 14:49

October 17, 2018 at 12:38
Hello house, please is there any Ghanaian who has went for his or her interview?
October 17, 2018 at 17:48
Hi Simon
DV 2019 – awaiting 2NL
Your blog and past posts advise that depsite having enough funds to show in an account that it is best to get an I -134 completed.
The problem is that I unfortunatlely do not have any family or friends that I can ask to fill this in.
I do however have a South African friend who is living and working in the USA.
The issue though is that he does not have an A visa number.
As a professor he has secured a medical post in a prominent hopsital for a 5 year contract… but on a O VISA i.e visa is for the individual who possesses extraordinary ability in the sciences, arts, education, business, or athletics,
Will this be sufficient in providing a successful I-134 form ?
Many thanks
October 17, 2018 at 18:46
Because his visa has an end date, his support has an end date too – so it is not ideal.
October 17, 2018 at 19:04

I don’t need to update this – the process has not changed.
https://britsimonsays.com/entering-the-dv-lottery-does-the-timing-of-the-entry-matter/
October 18, 2018 at 05:35
Whats the peak time sir? Date and exact time. Its unclear in that graph.
October 18, 2018 at 13:51
Mate, you got your answer in the first paragraph.
“So is there any way to increase your chances of selection based on the timing of the entry? No! It is a random selection.”
It’s a short article that explains you everything. Give it a read.
October 18, 2018 at 14:09
You didn’t bother the read, did you.

There is no need to use your full name or your full number, so for your security, don’t do that.
October 18, 2018 at 14:39
Hello! First of all, Brit thank you so much for your blog!
I have a question regarding documents for my y DV. My case is 2019EU, but I will submit my documents to the US Embassy in Morocco, because I currently reside here. I would like to know, if there any additional requirements to the documents, except certified translations? I asked the embassy, but they have just sent me an automatic reply.
Thank you for your answer in advance.
Best regards
October 18, 2018 at 15:55
What I suggest is read the instructions for all cases, your embassy specific pages and the reciprocity pages that pertain to you.
October 18, 2018 at 14:54
Hey BritSimon,
I am really appreciate you because of your generous ideas for the visas. I am the DV-2019 winner. I was exercising a problem to fill DS-260. Now this problem is solved by contacting with KCC and the U.S. Embassy in my country.
Now I have just submitted my applications. So what I have to do now? Am I only waiting the interview schedule?? What will you advise me to prepare myself for the interview??
I thank you in advance!

Hello Brit,
I would really appreciate it if you could tell me the current use of the mailing address that we enter in the diversity visa lottery registration form. I know that it was used to send documents to applicants before, but since it’s no longer the case. Why would they keep it now and for what purpose? Thank you
October 19, 2018 at 13:30
I don’t know. Just complete the form.
October 19, 2018 at 08:06

October 19, 2018 at 13:52
Brit how are you? Is there any one who can recieve their 2NL after the case is not valied. When I check, says the case is not valid
October 19, 2018 at 15:38
There is a problem with the system. If you need to make a change to the DS260, contact KCC. Otherwise you will get the 2NL once your DS260 is process and your number is current.
October 19, 2018 at 13:56

Hi Simon I am DV 2019 selectee from sierra Leone won with my wife and one daughter.. I had 3 credit and 3 pass and in my high final exams, and I am also a Certified Accounting Technician holder from United Kingdom. And have worked in the Bank for 6years as a supervisor and cureecurr working in an INGO as a finance Officer. I have been with them for 4 years now and my wife is a BSc degree holder. Did this qualify me as an applicant? Since the embassy is requesting for 5credits from high school or HND or a Bachelor degree.please help.
October 19, 2018 at 15:40
I don’t know whether your education meets the requirements or not. If you think that is a risk, prepare evidence for proving work experience. The FAQ has info about that.
October 19, 2018 at 14:45
Hi Simon nice to get someone like you seriously. During my initial entry I mistakenly did not include the middle name of my daughter. Her name is Fatmata Lucy Sesay but I entered as Fatmata Sesay. But upon filling my DS 260 I made the corrections by adding her middle name Lucy. Is that a problem pleasssssse advice.Mohamed from sierra leone
October 19, 2018 at 15:41
No problem.
October 19, 2018 at 16:29

Hello Sir,
I was reading your articles and I find them much helpful.
I have a question and your help will be much appreciated. I traveled to United Stated last Saturday and activated the green card and went back to my country, to return back to United States in 2019 summer permanently.
For the Social Security Number and Green Card, I gave the United States address of my friend. The problem is that my friend called me today and told me that in two weeks she will change house(and told that she will know the new address in two weeks). I don’t know if she will receive my Social Security Number and Green Card until the next two weeks, maybe not.
Can you please advise what I should do?
Can I change the United States address (where the Social Security Number and Green Card will be mailed)?
Should I call USCiS or just change the United States address online, and where?
Thank you Sir for your answers. They will help me, because I don’t want to lose my Green Card opportunity to move to United States.
Best regards,
Namrata
October 19, 2018 at 20:32
The SSN will be sent within 2 to 3 weeks, and if missed, you can easily get a replacement.
The GC is tougher, it is likley to be delivered to the address you gave, even if you change your address online. So – do change the address online (google it), but you may have a problem anyway. Discuss with USCIS if you want.
October 19, 2018 at 21:32
Thank you very much Sir for your support.
I will wait until the next two weeks to see if I receive any of them.
If Social Security Number is lost, how can I ask for a replacement? Do I have to come to the United States or I can handle this online?
Searching online, I found that I can change US address, using USCIS account – I hope this is the way. Also, to discuss with USCIS for the Green Card, you mean by phone or email?
Thank you again Sir. I want to be as much prepared as possible.
Best regards,
Namrata

1. SSA office visit.
2. Either.
October 19, 2018 at 20:50
Hi BritSimon, my wife being the principal applicant does not have a maiden name on our marriage certificate. Because she converted from islam to christianity after our traditional marriage ceremony she picked English name and added one of my names to hers like X Y Z.. During the civil registration, she used her new name to register. She later added my other name N so the name became X Y Z N and gazzetted in 2013. The gazzette document covered her maiden name as well as X YZ as her previous names and X Y Z N as current valid name…..will this cause any problem? DV entry and Passport issued in 2014 matches current valid name
October 19, 2018 at 20:56
I can’t be certain whether this will cause a problem or not. Take all documentation of the name changes to the interview.
October 19, 2018 at 21:23
hello I made a rough mistake in compiling the ds 260 for the green card lottery I filled out all my data correctly except one the place of birth that I confused with the place of residence. how can I do? am I autamatically disqualified? I can write to the kcc to explain the problem before it is checked by the green card officials … I ask you for help because I do not know how to solve this problem. where I was born and where I live are six miles of difference. it’s not a wanted mistake but due to the haste to compile it as I can solve this problem there is a hope I have self-qualified alone? help me
October 19, 2018 at 21:44
As long as both places are in the same country it is not a problem.
October 19, 2018 at 22:01
First of all, I’d like to thank you for your tremendous effort and assistance. I was blessed by being a 2019 DV Winner, and I was being further blessed by being approved for a Visa. Your blog has been a major factor in making the process easier by helping me gathering the most required information. Now, I read on the FAQ section that we have to pay the USCIS fees online before entering the US for the Green Card to be issued. If I pay the fees before entering The US, and I traveled after 3 months, is it possible that the Green Card will have been issued already and sent to the US address I provided on my application? Or I have to enter The US for it to be issued even if I paid the fees already? Thank you.
October 19, 2018 at 22:20
No – they will only produce the card once you have paid and entered.
October 21, 2018 at 09:59
Thank you.
October 20, 2018 at 12:34
Dear Simon,
I was checking the acceptable photo criteria in the US government website for DV and found the following tip:
“Photo tip: You may not wear hats or head coverings, except for religious or medical purposes and with a signed statement.”
I don’t understand the meaning of last sentence “with a signed statement” in the above photo tip. What does it mean?
My wife use “Hijab (Head Covering)” for religious purpose. what statement we should make? How, where and when?
October 20, 2018 at 14:01
Don’t worry about it. The Hijab is self explanatory – and if needed, she could sign something at the interview.
October 20, 2018 at 14:26
Hello Britsimon i have a question!

2. If you are the principal, yes.
3. I don’t know.
October 20, 2018 at 20:15
i would like to start by saying thank you Brit for this amazingly helpful blog, i didn’t even have to ask for anything, all the information i needed was discussed with fine detail. keep it up 🙂
second, any Ethiopian dv2019 winners with case numbers that are expected to be current in January pls contact me with this email address; [email protected] so we could meet up at some point and help each other out. most of us will probably get the same interview date.
October 20, 2018 at 21:45
hi brit, I recently entered in US two weeks back, as currently I am jobless and looking for job meanwhile someone told me to apply for Child health insurance from govt for my kids .. will it be ok , will it not affect my green card issuance as I have already applied for it . thanks
October 20, 2018 at 23:39
It won’t affect the Green Card, but could cause a problem for citizenship later on.
October 20, 2018 at 23:19
Hi, is there any Iranian who went for interview? What can help Iranian to have a better chance to get their via. Any Iranian got visa? Please let me know if you know something☹️?
October 20, 2018 at 23:38
Under the travel ban Iranians cannot typically be approved UNLESS they live in the USA or Canada already, OR have a second nationality.
October 21, 2018 at 16:42
Thank you for your respond, I wish I could get some respond from Iranian who went to interview , or didn’t go to interview and share their point of view.
My Nephew has interview on Nov. 6th. It is so expensive to go to this interview at the same time you can’t pass on it.
Does it mean with your knowledge they better not to go and not to spend so much?
October 21, 2018 at 23:43
If there is no chance of success, it’s just a waste of money. So – he needs to be realistic.
October 21, 2018 at 03:51

Hi, Brit
We entered the US me and my husband in the beginning of September with DV. I got my GC in 1 month (I am DV2) but my husband didn’t, even though when checking the receipt for it says “…we ordered your card to be produced. We will mail your card to the address you gave us…” Now he got an appointment for biometrics (no GC), is there anything to worry about?
October 21, 2018 at 07:10
Hello Mr Brit i would like thank you for all what you are doing to help others. my name is bereket. I am an Ethiopian to be interview at early November with my husband as a derivative. But we find out that my husband should have additional tests to complete his medical which is going to be reached on mid December my question is
1. Should we both attend the interview ? Without his medical
2. Does late submission of the medical affect his chance of obtaining visa?
3. Does this also affect my eligibility to get visa?
October 21, 2018 at 15:22
1. Yes. He will be placed on AP pending results of the medical.
2. Generally no.
3. No
October 21, 2018 at 14:46
Hello there
I am DV2019 winner and my interview will be on the first week of November. And I have two basic questions to ask…
1. I am engaged right now and what should I respond if I am asked about my relationship status? Does it affect the process?
2. I left my country two times to different countries, in the past two months, for vacation. Can this be an issue on my interview day….what should I respond if I am asked why oh left?
I thank you so much for the help!!
October 21, 2018 at 15:15
1. If asked, you answer truthfully.
2. Truthfully.
October 21, 2018 at 18:17

2.she flies to to bankok and eriteria for vacation .does it also creat a problem.
3.I have applied for ssa before one month in Manassas but it didn’t come till now.what shall I do?
October 21, 2018 at 23:46

October 21, 2018 at 20:53
Dear BritSimon
First of all thanks for the job that you are doing
My 2nd wife principal applicant selected DV-2019 I am her derivative selectee, last year during filling application she did not add my daughter from the 1st wife so
My Question is
Is it possible to request Visa for my daughter after I get my Visa and travel to USA (start leaving in USA)?
Thanks
October 21, 2018 at 23:48
Are you trying to piss me off?

October 21, 2018 at 21:08
Hi Brits, thanks for ur relentless efforts.
This friend of mine who is a single mother won DV 2019, but claim to have just provided the necessary information about the daughter without including her photo since she hadn’t her picture at the time of the initial entry .My questions are:
1) Can such an incomplete form be accepted by the system during submission?
2) If true, does it not merit denial when she will go for interview?
3) Would u advice her to risk in continuing with the process?
Thanks in advance
October 21, 2018 at 23:50
1. No. She either attached a photo, or didn’t add the child. If she added the child, she would be listed as a derivative on the 1NL.
2. It’s not true.
3. It’s up to her to use some common sense.
October 22, 2018 at 05:42
Thanks so much Brits, for your prompt response .
October 22, 2018 at 01:32
Hey Simon,
I took a picture with all the standards met except one thing that worries me. The skin was photoshoped by the photographer as normal despite I told him it is for lottery. I figured that out after submitting my entry. Would that picture disqualify me?
October 22, 2018 at 14:24
Probably not.
October 22, 2018 at 01:54
Hi Mr.Brits
I successfully received my GC on 10th of July 2018 and went for my medical on the 22nd of June 2018. I’ve read your FAQ and it states that I’ve got 6 months from the date of my medical before my temporary GC in my passport expires.
Is it possible to arrange for that time limit to be extended? Only by even a month or two, would it be possible? The reason is I’m currently busy applying for Jobs in the US and would preferably have the employer pay for my plane ticket to the US, instead of me paying to fly there, activate the card, fly back and then fly over again a month or two later for the permanent move.
Thanks
October 22, 2018 at 14:25
No.
October 22, 2018 at 03:02
Brit how r u…?? a single winner who marry after seletion of DV&submission of Ds ..what happened if he don’t makes change on marital status@ DS…??
