What’s the difference between Tertiary education and vocational education for DV lottery?
Is there further explanation anywhere (I cant see) as they just mention high school and vocational “excluded”
If I did a “secretarial diploma” straight after my o’levels in Africa for 1 year is that counted ? – that is on top of O’levels
Some countries in Africa we finish at O’levels then University or some other things – I choose 1 year Secretarial Diploma
My Secretarial Diploma is classed as Tertiary education and by my country
Please help
June 18, 2019 at 19:08
Vocational means specific toward a particular job, as opposed to general education that can be used toward any work.

Hector
2020SA20XX How high is this number relative to the SA selectee universe? What are the probabilities that I will get an interview?
Best,
h
June 18, 2019 at 19:12
I have seen SA numbers up to about 2020SA39XX, so you are about halfway through the cases.
What that means in terms of chances we don’t know yet – we will need to see the selectee numbers in about a month.

June 18, 2019 at 19:21

If I am a DV2020 winner and I am looking to participate also in next DV Lottery (ex: DV 2021) … will that has any consequences to my current application in DV2020? Is it acceptable to do so while I am preparing to file my DS260 to KCC?
June 18, 2019 at 19:17
No problem at all.
June 18, 2019 at 21:07

Hi Britt,
i dont know anyone in the us ,not even related to anyone.
what will i have to put down on the permanent address??
or shall i put place which i prefer to live in the US .eg LA County.
June 19, 2019 at 05:31
You have to give a real US address of someone you can trust to receive your Green Card.
June 19, 2019 at 00:27
Hi, I would like to thank you for helping so much in this process. my visas were approved on June 4, 2019 in montevideo uruguay, and passed to ISSUED yesterday June 17. They lasted 13 days in READY, only to serve as a reference for other participants.
June 19, 2019 at 03:13
Hi Brit,
Firstly,I want to thank you for your great effort helping DV applicants ,really that a one of a kind website,to have a comprehensive guidance and reliably information arranged in a very logical order, in-addition to your explanation and what to expect and what not to.
Luckily I am one of the winners and I’m planning to enter the US to activate my profile.
but unfortunately i don’t have enough time to spend in the US, my first question :
1. What is the minimum ACCEPTABLE duration that I can stay in the US for the first time?
2. Is there any problem or confusion (such as the Green Card Processing) if entered from the Canadian borders (Driving) and stayed this time in a city not what I mentioned in my application?
3. If there are no issues regarding the above, can I visit the a SSA in the city I’m staying to request for the SSN to be sent to the address mentioned in my application?
Pardon me if those questions are already your FAQs ,
If you have any reference for my record that would be much appreciated.
Thank you for your time and continuous guidance.
June 19, 2019 at 05:36
1. 5 minutes.
2. No.
3. Yes.
June 19, 2019 at 04:42
Hi Brit, Thanks for all the prompt reply as I was quiet upset after the dv refusal. Just to clarify after the visa been refused under area of chargeability I was in a conclusion as my partner entered wrong country of birth as New Zealand but when we went through our dv entry form she has picked the right country of birth as Nepal and current residential address as Auckland, New Zealand. I have emailed emailed KCC to look into the matter and get back to me and consulate as well and consulate confirmed I can attend interview any part of the world and only thing I should be in country of birth listed in dv eligibility. I am guessing the KCC have put in the wrong chargebility as Auckland and given us oc location. if its a blender mistake from their end how do I go with it as I checked all my details were right… please advice
June 19, 2019 at 05:40
Complete nonsense. There are two questions on the form, one is birth country, the other is country of changeability. To get the OC number you got, YOU must have entered an OC country for chargeability. This is not done manually – it is done by a software program. It is your mistake, and the refusal will not be reversed. If you have the dv entry formn you can see that clearly.
June 19, 2019 at 05:28
Hi Brit. My interview is next month. I have not received any news from them about AFFIDAVIT of Support. However, My aunt who who happens to be my Affidavit of support has prepared the necessary information. Is the Affidavit of support document be sent to the embassy directly or sent to me and take it along during the interview?
Thank you in advance Brit
June 19, 2019 at 05:43
You take it to the interview along with supporting documents (W2/1040, Payslips, Photo ID)
June 19, 2019 at 05:48

June 19, 2019 at 06:39
Mr Simon..
My little sister has a permanent residency (Green Card) and has stayed in the USA for 2 and a half years, she’s considering going to college in Canada and she has asked if her stay abroad will affect her from getting the nationality after 5 years of stay, but the people from the immigration office told her as long as her stay abroad is shorter than 6 months it is ok, my sister is planning to complete her studies in Canada and that will take a long time.
my question is: if she stayed for 5 months abroad and got back to the United States are the 5 months abroad are counted for her as she stayed in the United States so that won’t get in her way of getting the nationality, or only the time spent inside the United States is counted?.
Thank you.

June 19, 2019 at 08:19
Hallo dear,
My friend selected this year with case no. Af21000
He will travel to USA using B1/B2 Visa next month
Can he adjust his status in USA from non-immigrant to immigrant Visa?
If yes is it easy? Or better to do it from Egypt?
June 19, 2019 at 14:02
That would be a REALLY bad idea. Egypt.
June 19, 2019 at 09:44
Simon, the address we listed in our DS-260 submission has changed, as my sister have moved homes. When I notified KCC about this, they mentioned they would have to unlock our DS-260 for me to make the changes, processing would stop and only continue again once I have resubmitted. Should I do this, or just bring the change of address to the interview? Thanks
June 19, 2019 at 14:06
At the interview.
June 19, 2019 at 10:22

June 19, 2019 at 14:23
Dear, sir I have one question. Will there be any chances after having documents problems before interview.
June 19, 2019 at 14:35
I don’t understand the question.
June 19, 2019 at 17:10
I do not have a work experience certificate but I have done work and I have filled the ds260 form of work, at the time of the interview, there will be problem or not
June 19, 2019 at 17:21
How many times are you gonna ask the question, just wait till he has answered. Also Also, if you have no proof of at least 2 years of experience in a field that has SVP Range of at least 7.0 in the job zone, then that is most definitely a denial. As a matter of fact, you shouldn’t had even fill in the form. Did you actually take time to read everything?
June 19, 2019 at 18:00
STOP REPEATING THE QUESTION!
I alraedy answered.

Hello brit !highest case number for DV EU2020 reported?
June 19, 2019 at 18:20
I have seen 2020EU57xxx
June 19, 2019 at 18:29
Hi Brit,
I have two questions to clarify please help me to get solved.
01. According to CEAC data there only be 21k of immigrant visas issued. do they try to stop before the reach target 50k visa? or do they continue until 50k in this fiscal year (2019).
02. Trump administration have decided to end this lottery, but Department of state announces there is available 50k visas for the viscal year 2020 as well. so what about your thoughts for the DV2020?
June 19, 2019 at 18:41
1. They are underfilling. The new document procedure has caused that. So what is your concern?
2. There is no change. trump can talk about doing things, but so far has failed to get agreement on any changes.
June 19, 2019 at 18:58
Maybe this year will be a lower issued year compared to the previous years. so my concern is what can be happen if congress is approved the decision made by US president do they immediately stop DV2019 and DV2020 or they will stop from the process from DV2021?
Thanks.
June 19, 2019 at 19:39
Trump doesn’t just “make a decision” and hey presto it’s law. They have to get agreement – and so far, they cannot get agreement. So – until the law changes, things continue. Law changes don’t become effective overnight, so this won’t affect DV2019, DV2020 and probably not even DV2021. So – no need to keep thinking about this…
June 19, 2019 at 20:04
I mean my sponsor has make mistake in document. They call me for interview and I went but they told me that I have some problem in my document and they didn’t take my interview too. They have told me that do correction in your document and send again. It seems that there will be no problem but I think there will be.Can you tell me will there be any problem?
June 19, 2019 at 20:04
Hi! Thanks for everything. I’m a 2020 winner already living in the USA on a work visa and I was wandering if the fact that I’ve worked for employers that were not listed on my petition could be considered “unlawful employment” for my AOS interview, if so If you would suggest CP instead where they might not question you about that aspect… Thanks again!!
June 19, 2019 at 20:57
Well yeah, if you have broken the terms of your visa, it can obviously cause problems for AOS. CP might be safer.
June 19, 2019 at 20:42
Hi Simon,
Love your page, it’s been really helpful with EVERYTHING. I am Australian and am a DV19 selectee. I had my interview in Paris on the 22nd May, and had to do an extra medical test a week later which all went smoothly. Though it’s been nearly 3 weeks since the test and I still don’t have a response from the embassy in Paris. Is this normal?
Best Regards
June 19, 2019 at 22:20
Probably. I suspect your medical was there too late for a decision in May, so the embassy now have to ask KCC to re-allocate a visa for you.
Patience….
June 20, 2019 at 05:11
Thanks for getting back! Fingers crossed all goes smoothly
June 19, 2019 at 22:17

June 19, 2019 at 23:00

June 20, 2019 at 02:16
Did you google it?
June 20, 2019 at 09:55
Nope I tried filling in the form from where I’ve my 1st NL through the link in it.
June 20, 2019 at 00:31
Hi Brit,
I am a 2019 DV selectee. I was requested by KCC to submit my documents which I did, but I’m a bit concerned about my birth certificate I submitted. I obtained that birth certificate since 1998 from my Ministry of Health birth registration center. And in order to have it well protected because it was appearing older, I laminated it years back. A friend of mine asked me to go back to the ministry to obtain the recent version but I saw it not necessary to do so knowing that even though mine was old but it’s an original document given me by the government.
I have submitted it with my other documents and now I’m worried as to wether it will be accepted.
I will highly appreciate your thought on this sir.
June 20, 2019 at 02:17
I don’t know – it is up to the embassy and CO.
June 20, 2019 at 10:09
Thanks for the timely response Brit. Highly appreciated
June 20, 2019 at 02:48
I am sure you are from Liberia and will appreciate your contacts. But to really with you ,laminated documents are not valid documents. Even at the Ministry of Health you are told not to laminate it. You should have listened to your friend. If I were you know I would back for new one ASAP and re summit my documents ASAP. THAT IS MY ADVICE TO YOU OR ELSE YOU WILL HAVE YOURSELF TO BLAME
June 20, 2019 at 03:01
I am sure you are from Liberia and will need your contacts if possible. But to be very real with you, laminated documents are not valid documents. Even at the Ministry of Health , you’re told not to laminate your certificate. You should have listened to your friend for once. If i were you I would go back and get a new one ASAP and re summit my documents as time is no longer in your favor or else you will have yourself to blame.
Please take action now, I mean now!
June 20, 2019 at 09:49
WHO says Laminated Documents are not acceptable???
Well…I had a new Birth Certificate in November 2018 in order to help process my Passport, and I immediately Laminated. I remember at the Passport office, one uninformed lady nearly misled me BG saying laminated documents were not acceptable. Meanwhile I had long had all relevant documents laminated. I ignored her and went ahead to enquire from her Superior who told me there was nothing wrong having them laminated.
Even at the Embassy guidelines, there is no law that restricts people from presenting Laminated Documents.
I have gone through the entire process successfully by the grace of God, and the detailed instructions of Britsimon…CEAC Status now indicate ISSUED for me, wife and kids.
June 20, 2019 at 10:30
Thanks very much Psalm for sharing your experience with me. I believe you because I used this same laminated birth certificate to obtain my passport in 2017 and no authority at the passport department query my birth certificate.
The reason why I didn’t go by the advise my friend gave me was because, he said that I shouldn’t carry my old birth certificate to the the birth registration center but instead, I should photocopy it and tell them that the original got missing that’s the only way they would grant me a new one.
June 20, 2019 at 10:08
Thanks Brit, I appreciate your timely response.
June 20, 2019 at 01:46
Dear Brit,
I am the DV winner and I have an interview with in couple of days. I recently got pregnant and the medical report also I got. In my medical its mentioned as I am pregnant. The doctor also not recommended the vaccines. In my report doctor ticked the vaccinations requirements completed. Anyhow I heard that the vaccines are mandatory before I enter into USA.
My question is
1. Is it my visa approved immediately or after my delivery I can enter in to USA?
2. Do you know any cases like this what happened?
Thanks in advance
June 20, 2019 at 02:36
1. They can approve before the birth.
2. Babies are born.

My friend in Nepal had a interview for her DV and she missed the interview. She found out about the interview 1 month after the interview and rescheduled the interview. I was wondering if she still has a chance of getting the visa. By the way her case cancels on September 30,2019.

Please i will like to find out if there is any problem if I change my sponsor without changing on the DS 260
June 20, 2019 at 14:30
Your sponsor is not in the DS260 anyway. You might want to change the US address at the interview though, as that is where the Green Card will be sent.
June 20, 2019 at 07:10
Sorry I am 2019 winner
June 20, 2019 at 08:02
Hello Mr. Simon,
Good morning!
I’m a DV2020 winner and i want to ask about the mailing address,
1- While applying to DV back in October 2018 i wrote my mailing address according to my country of birth NOT the country of residence, is that OK?
2- If it’s ok, should i write the same in the mailing address question in DS 260? As i’m planning to be interviewed in my hometown not in the country i live in today.
Thanks in advance…
June 20, 2019 at 14:31
1. Yes
2. Do you understand “honesty”?
June 20, 2019 at 09:45

Hi Simon thank you for your efforts
I did the medical exam but it’s still incomplete my blood and urine tests and X-ray are all fine but while the physician checked me he saw a scar on my left arm and sent me to do drug test and I did it and the test was fine too but he said you have to see a psychiatrist to know if you’re mentally stable or not that’s how the procedure goes
I’m not crazy or suicidal it was just in teenage age and now I’m freaking out that
this could prevents the visa
June 20, 2019 at 18:08
The doctor is checking for things that may cause you to become a public charge. If you are not ” not crazy or suicidal” then you have nothing to worry about.
June 20, 2019 at 12:08
Hello Sir,
I am a 2019 DV winner but have some issues. The cafe at which I played attached the wrong photo to my entry. What do I do?
June 20, 2019 at 18:10
There is nothing you can “do”. There is some risk of denial – it will be up to the CO. Your choice is whether to gamble by attending the interview or not.
June 21, 2019 at 11:23
Thanks very much Sir
June 20, 2019 at 12:16
Hi Brit. Thank you for your time and for everything you do for people.
My husband case is 2019AF31xxx and our interview is for July. Here’s my concern. By reading people post and your comments, We just found out in our DS260,we didn’t list all the educational institutions at a secondary level. Since my husband is the main applicant and have high school diploma and an associate degree, he thought he just had to mention institutions attended after high school. So my questions is:
Do we have to ask the ambassy to unlock the DS260 so we can add all the educational institutions attended at a secondary level? Or we can live it like that and explain it to the CO at the interview?
June 20, 2019 at 18:11
You cannot unlock once scheduled – so explain at the interview. It shouldn’t cause a problem, but your husband should take all proof of education.
June 20, 2019 at 21:22
Thank you Brit for the answer.

Dear Simon,
I have a question regarding the police certificate that is one of the requirements for the DV visa. Specifically, in my country(Republic of Macedonia), it is not the police that issues the certificate, but the court(as can be seen here in this excerpt from the official guide on trave.state.gov – https://i.imgur.com/bxnt1lm.png).
I got both required certificates from the court in my hometown where I have lived my entire live, but I just noticed that on the “Criminal Court Certificate” it says something along the lines of – “has not committed any crimes etc etc on the area covered by this court”.
So my question is: Is this enough, or should I maybe request some national certificate from some other court(because I cannot find any infromation anywhere regarding this, on the aforementioned page there isn’t any detailed description about this).
Thank you
