Hi Simon,
My friend won dv 2020 but he didn’t rember his birthdate that he filled during entery and now got error mismatch date how he gonna fix this problem, thanks
August 18, 2019 at 16:37
It should not be hard to remember his own birthdate. Keep trying dates until he gets it.
August 18, 2019 at 17:00
Yes you are right he know his actual birthdate but he used different one during entery by mistake and he can’t remmber it by now.
August 18, 2019 at 17:33
Hi Brit,
I need your advice. My husband and I hve interview 03.09.2019.
We are 2019EU27xxx. I am principal selected.
I noticed one mistake on ds260. Should I email now to ambasy and ask if I could change that, or should I do it on the day of interview. I dont wont to cause delay so I dont know what is best.
Thank you veru much.
August 18, 2019 at 17:43
What is the mistake??
August 19, 2019 at 07:20
Question was did you ever used another name and I answered no. But what they ment is have u used another name before mariage. And I did change my last name. So instead of no I want to answer yes. I have old pasport and a new one and I can bring them to interview.
August 19, 2019 at 12:48
So unlock and change.
August 19, 2019 at 19:50
Now or at interview?
August 20, 2019 at 05:12
Now or at the interview?
August 20, 2019 at 12:48
Now. Once scheduled, the form cannot be unlocked.
August 21, 2019 at 05:17
I am sorry I didnt understand. You say once is scheduled it cant be unlocked. But we are sheduled for 03.09. That is why I asked can I unlock it now by emailing to ambasy or at the interview? Thank you
August 22, 2019 at 03:34
You can correct things at the interview.
August 19, 2019 at 07:58
Just to be precise so you can understand I used my new last name everywhere. Documents were sent with new last name, pasport is with new name, I changed all personal documents because of new name before I sent ds260, pasport that I used is with new name, only that answer was no instead yes. I checked no.
August 19, 2019 at 16:00
Excuse me 2700 or 27000?
August 19, 2019 at 19:44
Hers is a 2019 case. Not 2020.
August 19, 2019 at 15:58
You are eu12000 and your interview is scheduled for 3.9.2019? Or your case number is 1200 insead of 12000. Thank you if you answer and good luck
August 19, 2019 at 20:35
I am 27000 Eu region. Generation 2019.
Thank you.
Best of luck to you too.

Panel Rules for Visa Lottery Winners Fighting Travel Ban;
What do you think of that?
https://www.courthousenews.com/panel-rules-for-visa-lottery-winners-fighting-travel-ban/
August 18, 2019 at 18:29
I think that the point that the end of the year is a hard cutoff will stand. So this challenge may gain a moral victory – but no visas.
August 18, 2019 at 23:50
Hi brit , im a dv2020 winner and i havent recieved the requesting email yet. So when i was filling my ds260 i put my passport id that will end in 2020. And now im gonna renew my passport. So when i get the new one. Should i send it to them or what ? And tnx
August 19, 2019 at 00:13
You should unlock and update the DS260 with the new passport ID.
August 21, 2019 at 05:29
Sorry, I remember reading here that we don’t need to unlock in this situation, just take both the old and the new passport with you to the interview. My passport will also expire in 2020, possibly before my interview and I have already got a new one, but I thought I shouldn’t unlock the DS-260?
August 22, 2019 at 03:35
If you are waiting for a few months anyway – unlocking is better.
August 19, 2019 at 00:32
HI Simon.
I’m a DV 2018 LPR and planning to file I-130 for my wife and baby – F2A visa. How long do you think it will take for the whole process? . What does it mean that the status is current and filing date is 1JUN2019 (Visa bulletin)? Some sources are saying 2 years . Would is also affect my application if i apply for reentry permit straight after i file for I-130. Seems like the only way to spend time with family while they’re waiting for Visa.
August 19, 2019 at 03:42
The process may be faster now than previously – but I don’t know. I am not an expert in that process so cannot answer your questions.
August 19, 2019 at 01:18
Mr brit hello,
My relative did interview since June 27, 2019 she was put in AP with her family(there are 6 in total but only 3 will travel now if approved, the others will join later). Last time she told me to ask for her and the last update was August 07, 2019 and I checked back those will join later I mean the 3 derivates last update was on August 13, 2019. What does that mean according your experience?
August 19, 2019 at 03:43
I don’t know.
August 19, 2019 at 01:24
Hi britsimon am here again my question I couldn’t find the priority date can you help me ?
August 19, 2019 at 03:44
I don’t know – follow the link I gave you.
August 19, 2019 at 13:23
OK thank you so much
August 19, 2019 at 02:48
Hello Brit,
I am a DV 2020 winner from Asia, but my case number is a big high above 18000. Will I have a chance to get interview. Thanks.
August 19, 2019 at 03:45
Yes
August 19, 2019 at 08:14
does unlocking ds260 affect the time to get the interview tnx for your advice
August 19, 2019 at 12:48
Read the FAQ.
August 19, 2019 at 08:23
Greetings Brit Simon, and hope all is well.
Am DV 2020 winner AF28XX and KCC has already asked for documents which am yet to submit.
KCC asked for birth certificate but i just noticed there’s a name mentioned which i have never used and did not mention it anywhere since the process started.
Will there be a problem during the interview? Please advise.
August 19, 2019 at 12:51
I assume we are talking about an additional middle name. You should email KCC explaining the finding so they at least have that on record. You could ask to unlock and add that to your “other names used” section. I doubt that it will create any problem at interview.
August 19, 2019 at 13:01
Thanks for the quick response Brit. The name only appears on the birth certificate and have never used it anywhere.
August 19, 2019 at 13:07
Yes. I understand.
August 19, 2019 at 08:56
Hi Brit, lm one of your YouTube subscriber.. l just want to ask you if someone was married & legally became a divorcee, what should they fill out on a DV entry (Single or Divorced ) ? Thanks.
August 19, 2019 at 12:52
Divorced.
August 19, 2019 at 15:37
Hi BritSimon, thanks for your quick response.. l just want to let you know that l moved to USA when l was 20 years old, and l lived in the USA continuously for the past 33 years, and l currently still live in the USA, and back in 1991 me & my United States Citizen ex-wife were married after being together for 5 years as boyfriend & girlfriend, and one year into our marriage my ex-wife cheated on me, so l had to withdraw my i-130, and l wound getting a divorce.
l’ve been single since my divorce back in 1993 although l’ve always wanted to participate in DV Lottery, but l never did until last year where l filled out single instead of divorced, but unfortunately l didn’t win last year DV lottery that’s why l had to ask you for your expertise, so l won’t wind up making the same mistake as my last year DV Lottery entry…
Kind Regards ?
August 19, 2019 at 15:53
So yes, you should enter divorced, but you have not mentioned your current status in the USA. Have you been out of status at any time in your stay in America? I assume you must have been – and that will be a problem if you do become a lottery winner.
August 19, 2019 at 21:26
Hi BritSimon, Thanks for the follow up… Well, if you’re familiar with the DV Lottery entry form online it clearly doesn’t say any where in the form to fill out the status of an alien if you happened to be an applicant residing in AMERICA… I vividly remembered filling out the DV form last year where it only says to enter your Address, and where you currently reside.
Please, correct me if lm wrong? . And, l was told even if you are out of status in America, and if you’re lucky enough to win the DV lottery while residing in America then you will have to submit a Waiver to USCIS as long as you have a good moral character, paid your taxes while living in USA, and no criminal record, and then you will definitely have no issues claiming your DV lottery selection even if you been living in America while being out of satuts.
United states of America has been my home for the past 36 years, and l know few USA competent lawyers in the USA that were able to file successfully for some of their clients that won DV lottery while living in USA.
SIMON, do you actually live in USA, or do you live in Europe?
Kind Regards ?
August 19, 2019 at 22:21
Yes people can apply for the DV lottery and win, AND process while living in America. That is not a problem. Just because the form doesn’t mention being out of status is a problem, that does NOT mean it is not a problem. In fact it is one of the “normal” ineligibilities common to all immigration cases.
However, being out of status is a big problem. Your concept of a waiver is flawed because they are not easy to obtain AND they take a long time. The DV process has time limits which often means there is not enough time to obtain a waiver, even if that waiver were granted. I have seen far less serious overstays than yours be denied. So – if you do want to enter the lottery you can do so. If you win, you could discuss it with a lawyer to see whether you can proceed or not. Generally speaking, US lawyers have little or no experience with DV lottery cases. DV is around 5% of overall immigration, AOS DV is around 3 to 5% of that, and most DV cases self process. So – lawyers probably handle less than DV AOS 100 cases per year. So if a lawyer tells you they have filed for multiple clients, you should immediately be doubtful of their honesty.
Yes I live in America, I went through AOS from H1B.
August 19, 2019 at 10:27
Hi Simon,
DV winner AF12xxx my inteerview was in April, the case was under AP. they called me 10 days ago asking to send my passports ASAP as visas are limited.
in case I received a visa, can I extend the validation of Medical examination which will expire on 10th of September as I will not be able to travel before late of September
Thanks
August 19, 2019 at 12:52
You must discuss that with the embassy asap – before they issue the visa.
August 19, 2019 at 11:29
Hi Brit,
I have dual citizenship and both of them are elegible to participate in DV. Citizenship 1 is where I was born and lived most of my life, Citizenship 2 is where I currently live.
I will apply using Citizenship 1 as the elegible country because I think it has more chances, but my question is, If i get selected and eventually get approved for the visa/green card, can I request it to be stamped in my citizenship 2 passport?
The reason is because my country of origin is a total chaos and my passport might expire, and it is really hard or it takes a lot of time (could be 1+ year) to get a new passport
August 19, 2019 at 12:54
Eligibility has nothing to do with citizenship. It is based on country of birth. Enter country of birth if you don’t want the experience of being chosen, then disqualified.
August 20, 2019 at 07:30
Hi Simon,
Thanks for the reply. In that case, can I apply with my country of birth as my elegible country but using the passport information from my second citizenship?
August 20, 2019 at 12:54
Yes
August 19, 2019 at 15:48
HI
If I am the lottery winner after getting visa can my spouse go USA without me?
August 19, 2019 at 15:53
No. You must go with, or before, your derivatives.
August 19, 2019 at 15:54
Please, how would you know that your case number is LOW or HIGH?
August 19, 2019 at 15:56
Reading some of my recent articles would do that…
August 19, 2019 at 16:47
Hi Brit, can I register DV lottery 2019–2021 now or must I wait till October? If yes will there be a specific date when to start registering.

August 19, 2019 at 21:23
The entry period starts in October and the ONLY official site is https://dvlottery.state.gov.
Do not use any other site.
August 19, 2019 at 17:38
Hi Brit simon, I appreciate your effort for dv winners in their application. Process. My question is can some who is permanently living in USA be a sponsor for two different persons the one is dv winner 2020 the other is for his wife with in the same festival year
August 19, 2019 at 21:26
That would be a bad idea.
August 19, 2019 at 19:05
Hi, I have won the DV2020 and I included my spouse and the child (who was younger than 21 at that time) in my original entry. However, my child has no intention to immigrate with us. So, can I just fill DS 260 forms for me and my spouse and submit? Since my child’s DS 260 is already in my account (saying “incomplete”), how can I remove it? Thank you so much.
August 20, 2019 at 13:48
You don’t remove it – you just leave it incomplete.
August 19, 2019 at 19:30
Hello Brit 7 days before my interview and I’m totally panicking.
So in my DS I have mentioned that I’m intending to study in USA as an answer for my question: in which occupation you intend to work in USA?
My friends say you shouldn’t answer student. It’s better to mention a job.
And Also what do I amswer the question why you choose USA?
Thank you
August 19, 2019 at 21:28
Hi,
I won DV-2020 but one of my derivatives won’t be migrating with me. How can I remove him from my DS 260? Thank you.
August 19, 2019 at 22:24
You can’t. You simply don’t submit that form.
August 19, 2019 at 22:28
Hi, So won’t it be a problem since it would appear as “incomplete “ in my account? Thank you.
August 19, 2019 at 22:35
Would I suggest that if it were a problem?
August 19, 2019 at 21:30
Hi brit
My surname in dv lottery form is my third name but in my passport my name syntax include my fourth name in ds260 should i inter my fourth name as surname or follow the dv form syntax.
Thank you very much
For help and support you provide to us
August 19, 2019 at 22:25

August 20, 2019 at 00:14
Hi Brit. My sister and the husband won the DV lottery. They submitted the online form, got notified later on to send some docs which they did but till date no response from kcc. do they still get the chance to be notified? what could be the problem? can they resend the required docs if they made some mistakes? thanks
August 20, 2019 at 03:43
Case number with year and region?
August 20, 2019 at 07:32
2019AF46XXX
August 20, 2019 at 12:55
No it is too late. They wasted their opportunity by not checking if KCC were satisfied with the documents. There is no way to get scheduled now.
August 20, 2019 at 00:37
Pls can you change your address that u used to fill dv form at the interview place?
August 20, 2019 at 03:43

August 20, 2019 at 03:00

Do you have any information about DV2021? Thanks

Mr.Brit, my visa issue date 16 august 2019 and expires 8 january 2020 right.
but i 531 on the bottom says temporary residence for 1 year, so how Do we count it?
Is it count 1 year from the first entry or 1 year until 16 august 2020?
examples : first entry 10 NOVEMBER 2019 ( i-531 count until 10 NOVEMBER 2020 )
or issue date 16 august 2019 and my visa real expires on 16 august 2020
August 20, 2019 at 12:52
1 year from entry. But within that time you will have the GC, so why are you even thinking about this???? Focus on sensible things.
August 20, 2019 at 15:19
my spouse plans to come to USA on december and go back on january 20 , which is she may be wont get the plastic GC yet, so all she can use only her passport. i mean i know it won’t be Problem since POE officer can see the stamp from i 531
August 20, 2019 at 07:05
Hi, my visa issued. I’d like to know if I should pay the green card right now or when I will be in the USA?.
thank you.
August 20, 2019 at 08:14
Brit I also want to know the same. I have paid the fee for my husband and taken the receipt. I sent him a copy to bring to the US of the payment receipt. Did we pay too early? He hasn’t arrived to the US yet but we have paid the fee. Is this ok?
August 20, 2019 at 12:53
It’s your choice.
August 20, 2019 at 08:27
Hi Simon
I know i read it somewhere here,but cant remember/find.
If im the DV winner (we all already received our visas), and obviously my wife and kids got theirs based on mine, than its ok if the activation entry to US will be done by myself alone and later on my wife can travel by her own for her activation?, or i also need to acompany her
Thanks
Yaniv
August 20, 2019 at 12:56
You can enter before or with the derivatives. They cannot enter before you.
August 20, 2019 at 16:00
Thank you
So if i understood you correctly, once i enter before them, they can travel on a later date without me to activate their visas?
August 20, 2019 at 16:02
Yes.
August 20, 2019 at 08:52
Heloo mister I have been randomly selected for further processing in the Diversity Immigrant Visa program for the fiscal year of 2020.
I was filling out DS-260 online, but couldn’t be able to finish it at that time. When I went back to finish filling the application, I got locked out and couldn’t be able to sign in again. Please try again later or contact the Kentucky Consular Center…” I have been trying to login several times, but I see the same error message. Whate shall ido

August 20, 2019 at 09:55
hi simon;
i had interview few days ago and they put me on administrative processing, today they sent me an email and asked me to fill “biiodata quistionaire” which is asking me about my previous travels to other countries and previous passports which i had,,, in one of my previous passports my surname is different (in our country newly they changed naming system and passports) and i had not mention this in my Ds260 , will this be a problem for me? or it wont be very serious ?

August 20, 2019 at 09:57
Hello..Mr.Britsimon
I am a lotto winner in 2019. My case number is AS14xxx. I had an interview at 13 Aug. and my visa is approved.

August 20, 2019 at 10:53
Hello Brit,
Can two brother jointly sponsor single applicant both of them live in same place?
August 20, 2019 at 13:06
No
August 20, 2019 at 11:22
Hi Simon,
I noticed that I made some mistakes into the DS260. My name, previous us visa classification: I wrote B2 instead of B1/B2. Is it possible to unlock it and rectify? My interview is scheduled for Tuesday next week the 27th of August.
Thanks in advance for your guidance.
August 20, 2019 at 13:07
That is trivial, no need to change.
August 20, 2019 at 12:30
Hello brit, USA tax rate is so high. Is this true?
August 20, 2019 at 12:59
Oh my ! This is not even a DV question
Have you heard of something called google search or researching on the internet with the same question “is US tax rates high?” or are tax rates high in the US
If you have managed to send a message here on the internet, surely you can manage that?
August 20, 2019 at 13:08
This is a silly question to ask me, asked in a silly way Please be respectful of my time.
August 20, 2019 at 13:25
Hello Brit . Can we please have a longer ” Recent comments ” section , to more than five comments ? Or add an option as you did with Archives . So that we can access to more comments and catch up what we miss . I mostly get my answers from the comments . Thank you
August 20, 2019 at 13:42
Use the link at the bottom of all the comments that says “older comments”. They are all there. On Ask questions for example there are currently 46,937 comments.
August 20, 2019 at 12:35
Hi Simon
I have the number 2020EU00030xxx, I sent the ds 260 application in May, I did not receive any confirmation by KCC by e-mail, does everyone receive a confirmation of acceptance of the application? Is there something wrong with my request?
August 20, 2019 at 13:08
No problem. Just use some patience you have months to wait.
August 20, 2019 at 13:24
so it is normal that I have not received any e-mail confirmation from KKC that my application has been accepted? I have nothing to worry about?
August 20, 2019 at 14:06
Today i received my visa.
Thank you Mr Simon and all the people of this blog.
August 20, 2019 at 14:41
Dear
Helo birtsimon
I have been randomly selected for further processing in the Diversity Immigrant Visa program for the fiscal year of 2020.
I was filling out DS-260 online, but couldn’t be able to finish it at that time. When I went back to finish filling the application, I got locked out and couldn’t be able to sign in again. I have attached the error message with this email !
Would you please find out what is going on, and help me out and unlock it, so I can finish the DS- 260 application online.
Sincerly
Thank you

August 20, 2019 at 14:09
Can a refugee who is under the protection of UNHCR apply DV lottery.
August 20, 2019 at 14:43
Yes
August 20, 2019 at 15:13
Hi sir ,how are u?in the ds 260 I indicated that I would like to work as an engineer in the usa, can I tell the consule other occupation like study and work ( because currently i am a student ),if he will ask me this question, withou unlocking the ds 260?
August 20, 2019 at 16:10
Hey Simon. My question is not about the DV lottery process per se, but it is related to it. We know that a DV Lottery winner can come to the US just to “activate” the visa, leave for up to 1 year and then come back to the US and settle down.
Do you have any experience on how that impacts the subsequent naturalization process? Let’s say a person activated the visa and then left for 8 months. That obviously counts as an interruption in the required 5 years of residency necessary for the naturalization. Should the 5 years be counted from the time the person settled down in the US (after the 8-months absence period)? Or does it start at the time when the visa (ie Green Card) was issued?
Thank you so much in advance for any info you might have on this.
August 20, 2019 at 17:54
Naturalization is based on residence – so that initial absence won’t be counted.
August 20, 2019 at 16:26
Dear Brit, if i live in a country “A”, would it be possible to apply for DV visa in this country? I am a DV2020 winner, the country that i am a currently resident is different from where i was born, so that means on the dv lottery page issuing post shows the country i was born. I am looking forward to your answer. thanks
August 20, 2019 at 17:15
Eligibility has nothing to do with where you live, it’s birth country that is important. You can apply from anywhere.
August 20, 2019 at 17:19
Thanks for your answer, so it means i can have my interview scheduled in my residence country, regardless of where i was born and what issuing post indicates?
August 20, 2019 at 17:53

YOU, not anyone else, are responsible for what is on your form. Your DS260 should be accurate.

Dear Simon
I am filling out the DS260 but I have following 2 questions and want to get your comments:-
1. I suffered tuberculosis around 20 yrs ago and already got the treatment and already recovered, so should I select “Yes” or “No” for the question of “Do you have a communicable disease of public health sigificance such as tuberculosis (TB)”?
2. I have applied for EB3 and the Labour Cert and I140 has been approved, but I have submitted the withdrawal for the application in June 2019 due to some reason, but I have not yet recevied any confirmation from the immigration department of my withdrawal. Should I select “Yes” or “No” for the question of “Do you seek to enter the unskilled labor but have not been certified by the Secreaary of Labor”
Hope you can help. thank you.

Thanks Simon,
so I need to explain the reason why I withdraw the case for question 2?
Also, the question of “Have you ever been refused a U.S. Visa, been refused admission to the United States, or withdrawn your application for admission at the port of entry?” also need to select “Yes” and explain?

1. Just tell the truth.
2. Answer “no”

Sorry just want to clarify that even for my withdrawal case, I can still answer “no” for the question it states “or withdrawn your application for admission at the port of entry”? Many thanks.
