Hi Mr Simon,
My family and I are already in the USA since December 15th ans paid for our green card fee since septembre 5th. Till today, de did not receive any documents neither SSN nor green card. We have been on the SS office and promise to send them in 2 weeks – before Jan end but for the green card the uscis told us in about 4 months since we entered the US. Now we have to return back home in order to resign from our works and kids to finish school this year but are wondering about out documents not yet issued. We have contacted the uscis and confirme that we can use our immigrant visa which has a validity of 1 year but de understand that many people has faced an issue with the immigrant visa while abroad with the airlines compagnies which refuse to accept the immigrant visa saying that it has expired. Could you please advise?
Regards
January 12, 2020 at 19:04
It’s not a problem. What you have is NOT an expired visa, it was endorsed upon entry and is proof of your LPR status.
January 12, 2020 at 15:37
Hi Brit Simon,
Let’s say after I get the dv visa Stamp by embassy, while on the way to USA is okay to visit another country?. I’m planning to visit my siblings who are in Qatar. Like to stay for few days and go to USA. I will be applying for tourist visa for that. Is it wise to do this? Will there be risk when I enter to USA?
Thank you
RCD
January 12, 2020 at 17:08
No problem.
January 12, 2020 at 14:55

January 12, 2020 at 13:19
Hi Simon, I contacted KCC via mail 2 weeks ago and asked them if my scanned documents were OK, but haven’t received any answer since then. I‘m sure all I can do is wait, but is this usual?
Btw I‘m from EU region, high case number 49xxx.

Dear Mr. Brit,
I am a dv2020 winner from Jordan, Asia.
I had my visa interview in 5 Jan 2020. In the interview, they approved my immigration visa, took my passport and told me that they will send it back in 5 working days. However, I checked the ceac website and my status is administrative processing. Is it possible that they change it from approved to administrative processing for no reason. Should I worry or contact them (kcc or the embassy) via email??
Thank in advance and best regards
January 12, 2020 at 09:12
What your CN ??
January 12, 2020 at 17:03
There may be no problem. Be patient.
January 12, 2020 at 06:47
Hi Brit,

Cheers!
January 12, 2020 at 16:41

January 12, 2020 at 06:00
HI MR SIMON
WHEN I FILLED OUT DS260 IN THE WORK / EDUCTION PART I HAD WRITTEN THAT
I HAD ATTEND 1 INSTITUTION ,UNIVERSITY DGREE . SO MY QUESTION IS DO I LEAVE LIKE THAT OR UNLOCK DS 260 TO ADD HIGH SCHOOL INSTITUTION
MY CN; 2020AF44XXX IS THERE ANY RISK TO UNLOCK DS 260.
January 12, 2020 at 06:34
Unlock and correct the form.
January 12, 2020 at 04:45
Hi, Simon
I’ve collected the documents and I’ll be sending them in a day or so, but before I do, I’ve got a question, or a couple:
1. Some of the documents have seals and stamps on the back, do I have to get that scanned too? Or is the data on the front just enough?
2. If so, how would that work with newly-implemented naming convention? Should I label the same document “back” and “front” or something?
Thanks!
January 12, 2020 at 05:08
1. Just the front.
January 12, 2020 at 20:42
Okay, thanks!
January 11, 2020 at 16:57
Dear Simon

Thank you Simon
January 11, 2020 at 17:39

January 12, 2020 at 05:07
It’s fine. Relax. Patience.
January 11, 2020 at 16:35
Greeting sir, pls I don’t understand the manner or nature in which dv case numbers are distributed in regions .my question is that
(1) can two dv winners HV thesame case number but from different regions. Eg 2020AF15ABC and 2020AS15ABC is it possible
(2) how did the case numbers vary in regions
(3) how many visa are available to be sent out for dv winners per year.
Thanks so much.
January 11, 2020 at 16:47
1. Yes
2. Unclear question
3. ~55000
These are very basic questions that would have been answered by reading my articles and FAQs. Please do that.

January 11, 2020 at 09:18
I lost my confirmation number is DV 2021 and I’m difficult to retrieve it at the page. You can change the DV year and it’s always filled with DV 2020
January 11, 2020 at 16:23
Wait until May when 2021 results can be checked.
January 11, 2020 at 08:33
Hi simon,
my case number is current and waiting for my 2NL. but I get acertain concern: one of my room mate in university has done some spying on my documents, who already know I am dv winner, and lets say he know every thing about my case( case number, confirmation number, date of birth ever the private pin I recieved from the embassy in our country before unlocking the ds-260),just every thing.
so the question is: if this bulshit rat man thinks evil, will he make troubles on my case by any means?? seriously am concerned. Thank you mr. Simon!
January 11, 2020 at 16:23
I don’t know what the person will do.
January 12, 2020 at 05:08

Hello Brit, a question matter, I already sent my ds and my documents to KCC I am SA12XX I am waiting for an interview, can I unlock my ds to add another person? (for example I get married and add my wife) I wait for your answer
January 11, 2020 at 06:19
Yes, although you are leaving it very late.
January 11, 2020 at 14:11
It should be noted that we have been in a relationship for more than 2 years and I did not marry before because on the same day that I won the lottery she approved the request by her father for the Green Card, but I did not know that its process will take so long
January 11, 2020 at 03:57
Hi Simon!
I was in US for 3 months on ESTA last year travelling. When I went back now I got denied entry because I had been there 3 months before (even tho I didn’t overstay my visa). Just wondering if I should win the lottery, will the entry denial cause any problems for me?
Thank you!
January 11, 2020 at 06:18
No
January 11, 2020 at 02:20

Federal appeals cort uphold bar Trumps Public charge rule
Hi Simon,
what do you say about this,
is it still need of i 134 ?
thanks
https://www.nbcnews.com/news/latino/federal-appeals-court-upholds-bar-trump-s-public-charge-rule-n1112666
January 11, 2020 at 06:18
You are confusing two things. There has ALWAYS been a need to prove you would not become a public charge. That has not changed. The legal ruling is not about that.
January 11, 2020 at 00:23
Happy new year Brit Simon! I wish you everything the best and thank you really for everything you are doing for us! My case number is 2020EU12xxx, which means that i am current for February interviews. However i did not recieve 2NL yet and from what i see it was supposed to be sent by the end of december. I did recieve e-mail that i have sent all required documents and that my DS-260 is processed and that i am ready to be scheduled. Any advice from you would mean world for me. Thank you!
January 11, 2020 at 00:39
The question is WHEN you sent documents and got the confirmation.
January 11, 2020 at 01:05
Thank you for your answer! I submitted DS-260 in May and i actually never recieved e-mail about documents, so i listened to your advice and i asked KCC via e-mail about that. They answered me to send the documents even though it was not typical e-mail requireing documents that i saw and heard people were getting. Anyway , that was around month ago and i sent them the documents and i recieved just couple days after e-mail that everything is fine and that i am ready to be scheduled. That was in December 18! When can i expect 2NL? To be honest i think they would never e-mail me about documents if i didn’t send them a messege as you suggested me. Thank you!
January 11, 2020 at 01:10
Also i checked ESC page just in case i might missed e-mail, but it is still 1NL and i checked my status and it still says ” AT NVC “
January 11, 2020 at 06:15
Probably a 2NL later this month for March interview.
January 11, 2020 at 13:48
I hope so! Thank you!
January 10, 2020 at 23:48
Good night, I hope you are well. I don’t know if you will be aware of the situation in Venezuela, but there are currently quite a few restrictions to enter the United States. I am a public official and soon I will have my interview, do you think that my job occupation is a problem to obtain the visa?
January 11, 2020 at 00:37
I cannot be certain. The travel ban places restrictions on “certain government officials”. So – I cannot guess whether that applies to you or not.
January 10, 2020 at 19:24
Hello, I hope you are well. I have a medical appointment on January 20 and, as a requirement, they ask me to register if I have a chronic disease, but 5 years ago I had a stroke, but I had surgery and now I am fine. Do you think you should place it as a medical record?
January 10, 2020 at 19:44
Mention it, it should not be a problem as it is not chronic, nor is it a spreadable disease.
January 10, 2020 at 16:52

Hi Simon
When I was in the US i rented an apartment but then disputed with my landlord and broke the lease and he reported this on my credit report and collection agency. Is this is something i need to disclose in DS?
January 10, 2020 at 18:21
There is no DS260 question about that.
January 10, 2020 at 15:14
Hi brit,
My case number is AS24xxx when do u think it will be current ? And I still didn’t submit ds260 and documents to kcc do u think im too late now ? If not then untill which month its is safe to submit ds260 and documents ? I will appreciate your reply
January 10, 2020 at 18:20

January 10, 2020 at 22:32
So how much time it will take to procces then documents and ds260 is it ok I submit in march
January 10, 2020 at 23:20
Re-Read my answer.
January 10, 2020 at 15:01
Hi Brit, I am traying to fill out the I-134 form bot some field won´t let me write anything for example apartment number and also in Part 3 Other Information About Sponsor – Employment Information (1.a , 1.a.1 and 1.b) Does this happen to anyone else? Thanks
January 10, 2020 at 18:19
Not that I know of.
January 10, 2020 at 14:33
Hi Simon,
I want to divorce my wife, but I got the interview date from the embassy.
What situation can I divorce that can’t affect green card?
January 10, 2020 at 18:19
“can’t affect” – means after entry to the USA.
January 11, 2020 at 01:48
But we have not interview yet, just got the interview date.
January 10, 2020 at 12:03
Hi Simon,
Case number: 2020OC1** LND
Successful interview Nov 6. Case entered AP pending medical results as I needed to do sputum test for TB. Medical all clear and sent to Embassy last Friday Jan 3. A week later and case still showing AP. My question: Do you know if it has to be the same CO who does the interview who finally approves the application?
Would have expected something this week but I’m thinking our CO may still be on vacation given the time of year. Any thoughts appreciated.
Best, Rich
January 10, 2020 at 18:07
Patience. These things need a little time.
January 13, 2020 at 20:16
And quite right you were Simon. Visas issued today. Extremely happy, and relieved. Do you still collate stories of individuals’ visa applications? I had an issue with the medical which changed visa validity which may be of interest to some.
Will make a donation – have a drink on me!
Good luck and best regards,
Rich
January 10, 2020 at 05:59
HI Britsmon, i would like to ask u some question. let help me . I have sent document requered November 27, 2019 . it was six week. i haven’t get any message so far for interview. my case number is about 39xxx. what you recommend me ?
January 10, 2020 at 17:53
Wait. You have time to wait because of your number anyway…
January 10, 2020 at 04:10
Does the i134 for DV2020 have to be submitted somewhere in the USCIS website or somewhere else online? Or does it only needs to be scanned, printed, and presented during the interview?
January 10, 2020 at 04:45
Interview.
January 10, 2020 at 02:15
Again can I apply for a job now that I have SSN or I need to have permanent resident first
January 10, 2020 at 04:41
You can take a job now.
January 10, 2020 at 01:15
Hi Simon
It’s two weeks today I entered the US from AF region and my SSN have been sent today, at the Port of entry, my passport was stamp and I was told it will be valid for one year. My question is, how long can it take before I receive my green card because my passport will expire in 2021, if it will be beyond this date, do I need to travel to my country to renew my passport?
January 10, 2020 at 04:41
As long as you have paid the $220 fee, the GC usually arrives in a few weeks, but can take 3 to 4 months.
January 10, 2020 at 10:23
I paid before coming here
Thanks Simon
January 9, 2020 at 19:02
Hello Simon,
First of all thanks for all this amazing information you provide for free. It helped me and my family a lot lately.
We applied for the DIV 2021. I know we have time until the results come out but we’re trying to make out homework in the meantime.
My question is this: Do you think it’s realistically possible for me to find a job as a programmer in the US? I’m a developer with 6+ years in the field, from Eastern Europe and I worked with multiple clients from US and EU. If we would win the DIV, we’re thinking on the North-West: Portland, Seattle, or something like that.
I know it’s a very specific question, but I can’t find any information on this anywhere else.
Thanks
January 9, 2020 at 21:56
If you can find work anywhere, you can find it here.
But I caution against to much planning activities. It’s nice to dream and plan, but just remember your chance of selection is probably less than once every 100 years.
January 9, 2020 at 18:42
Hello Brit,
A friend’s CN is 2020AF72XXX.
He has been trying to fill out the DS260 but cannot. He gets the following msg:
“ The Case number is currently unavailable, please try again later or contact the Kentucku Consular Center by email or by phone…..)
January 9, 2020 at 18:46
1Is it because it is one of the last CN?
2 has it happened before?
3.anything you can advise?
January 9, 2020 at 18:49
Then he should do as instructed.
June 30, 2020 at 20:09
Hi, I have the same problem in June 2020. How you solve the problem?
January 9, 2020 at 18:16
Hello Brit, I am 2020 winner and this is not directly related to the process but has become a concern for me. Since my name is too long it’s quite hard for me to manage that in most of the cases. If I will move to US in future I would prefer to change it so At which point I need to do that?
January 9, 2020 at 18:50
Don’t complicate the DV process. Do that in the USA.
January 10, 2020 at 11:34
Okay Brit thanks for the advise. Will do so
January 9, 2020 at 18:04
Hello Brit,
I won the DV lottery in 2009 but my visa was refused .
the consular said my husband’s adopted child wasnt included that was why they refused which wasnt true and i just found out one can add his or her adopted child.
i wanted to find out if i can appeal now?
January 9, 2020 at 18:51
If your husband had an adopted child but did NOT list that child on the DV lottery entry – then that means certain disqualification.
However, DV cases do not have the right of appeal – and certainly not after 10 years have passed (unless that was a typo).
January 9, 2020 at 15:49
hello Brit,
Please should dv-winners living outside the USA fill any petition?
January 9, 2020 at 18:42
Any petition???? For what? Be clear.
January 9, 2020 at 13:02
Hi Simon,
Firstly, Huge Thank you to you!
Your site has truly helped me to answer various queries relating DV lottery. And had played huge part for me landing to US.
There is one more queries hope you would help on this:
I’m in US right now,My relatives has got the second letter and want to sponsor her. But she is telling me sponsorship letter is not enough, had to fill up the I-134 affidavit of support by sponsor as per the 2019 rule.
While I went through the I-134 affidavit of support form, it has asked all the personal information like SSN, Alien Number which I personally fill uncomfortable to give out since it might be misused.
While I went for DV interview, I only took sponsor letter.
Can you help me on this ones please and Do all sponsor need to fill up I-34 Affidavit of support form.
Your help will be highly appreciated as always
January 9, 2020 at 18:42
The use of the I-134 has increased in my opinion, although it still varies from embassy to embassy, case to case. An I-134 is the safest approach.
January 9, 2020 at 12:44
Hi brit
My cn 2020Af29****
I sent my documents and i received auto reply ftom KCC it passed the 6 weeks and i haven’t received any message from KCC about processing my documents
What’s your advice brit ?
January 9, 2020 at 18:40
Patience.
January 10, 2020 at 12:39
Hello Brit, what is the response rate till now for eu region. As i calculate is 48% till now. But maybe i am wrong. Thank you if you response
January 10, 2020 at 18:16
Focus on up to 10300 for a more representative number. 51%. I expect that to be at least 60% within that range by year end. Possibly 65%.
January 11, 2020 at 21:18
Hello Brit! Im writing to desperately ask for help on my case I won the dv2019 lottery and in the interview me and my husband were 100% sincere . we told about my husbands criminal past with drugs. and they give us the letter saying that he has te right to ask for forgiveness only if his wife(me) gets the green card. So today I have got my green card, also my 1 year old son… my question is – does my husband has any chance to come in the US with the family reunion or it wold be better not to spend any more money on lawers cause it is impossible for him because of his past… plz help me cause I dont know what to do since we cabt aford a lawer and to wait 3 years alone here and then he dont get the chance. thank you in advance
January 11, 2020 at 23:07
I can’t answer your question with certainty. First, I don’t know the nature of the criminal past, and second I don’t know much about the Family reunion process. In reality you would need to be in the USA for at least a couple of years without your husband and would inevitably incur significant expenses with a lawyer and so on. You must ask whether that struggle is going to be worthwhile, and there will not be a guarantee of success.
