Hello Mr. Britsimon
Many greetings u n your family.
Hope you are doing great.
I am Dv 2020 winner and my case number is AF252xx.
I hve completed the DS260 form early February, submitted all the required documents. And i received the congratulation notification which indicates that i am ready to be scheduled on March 2, 2020.
I was expecting to get the 2NL at the end of march for May interview. Unfortunately that didn’t happen. Just to ask any suggestion about the next step. Was the congratulation later mistake. Or shall i call because they are not responding my email…
Thank u very much.
This process w’ld be difficult without your endless support and advice
April 3, 2020 at 01:29
KCC did not send the second batch of 2NLs. That is because they cancelled all May interview, based on the embassies being closed. You must remain patient.
April 3, 2020 at 12:03
I wonder what’s their criteria for closing/opening an embassy… It doesn’t seem like it’s related to the situation in a specific country as the US chose to close ALL embassies, even in countries with very low infection rate and almost no restrictions in place, To the best of my knowledge, the US is the ONLY country in the world that chose to shut down all its embassies around the world rather than just in the more severely affected areas. So I wonder what they’re basing their decision on, and whether it’s related to the situation in the US itself which is dire and not going to get better any time soon…
April 4, 2020 at 09:58
Goodness, so you are wondering about shuting down not what je happen now there? If they close it is because its nécessaire. American are not lazy

Good day.I played lottery for a client and he won.I have been trying to reach him on his contact to no avail.I have finally seen him today while his case number has been passed.his case number is 24000 and was current in March.I don’t know if we can still go ahead and summit DS260 or its too late?
April 3, 2020 at 01:30
It is not too late, although of course the pandemic is now a big factor in the process as embassies are currently closed.
April 3, 2020 at 00:09
According to your knowledge do you think that the embassies can all reopen in June ?
April 3, 2020 at 01:31
I am not an epidemiologist – so I don’t know.
April 3, 2020 at 03:42
Hi Brit, I hope you are OK and safe. I called KCC and asked them if they are working even though not scheduling interviews, they said: no, everything is on hold and they are not working on anything and they cannot extend the process after the due date September. I am so sad, this opportunity comes once in life time and going to lose it. I don’t think there will be a Visa Bulletin for April.

April 3, 2020 at 08:54
Brit, people keep posting that KKC has stopped working. Is it true or not? No one has received their confirmation letters I guess. I’m also waiting for mine, but they don’t send me anything.
April 3, 2020 at 10:37
There is a global pandemic and people are dying all over the world
The world is shutting down – temporarily – and things will be very different after
The epicenter has moved from China to Europe….now to the United States where things are also particularly very bad and drastic
What is it that people don’t understand?
KCC being open is the last urgent issue – and whether they sent anything is the LAST thing on THEIR mind – have some empathy and sympathy
April 4, 2020 at 13:58
You just read my mind.
April 4, 2020 at 14:25
Yup.
April 4, 2020 at 15:29
No need for that. For sure a lot of us must be frustrated. Closing embassies is fine, not extending deadlines is not.
Give it a month , the current dead rate for this very deadly disease is 2.4 %. The more they test the more this rate will go down. 95 % of the sick from this very deadly disease are developing this very serous conditions called common cold.
Here is my prediction . Economy will crash and recession is coming, a big one. Everyone will have to go back to work. The news will start spinning the opinion that is fine and safe for this 95% of the population. If you are over 65 keep staying home and away from people. That’s all.

Hi Simon, I arrived in the States 2months ago, decided to get some rest then applied for a job just 2 weeks ago which I got and due to covid-19, I could not start. I am eligible to apply for unemployment benefit? Will it be seen as public charge?

Hi simon! There is smth bothering my mind which i would like to ask you; when completing the DV lottery , after filling in all my details and then clicked the submit button an error message appeared(server is not working). So i then filled the form again and submitted it and on this occassion i got the submission number. Could this mean a double submission?

No
April 3, 2020 at 22:08
Hello Simon,
I came to US in March 2019. I am green card holder with SSN
I filled out tax return and I provided Direct Depost details.
Am I egible to recive stimoulus check, or not? I have heard that I had to live at least 2 years in US to be eligible for that help but I am not sure.

stimulus check just hit my account:)
April 4, 2020 at 04:59
Dear Brit, I have couple of questions, I will be very thankful for your answers.
1. When asking for charitable organizations for assistance is it considered a public charge?
2. My husband has his SSN but me and my son don’t have it because SS offices are closed, will we also get stimulus checks?
3. Is there any other options for new immigrants who have lost their job or couldnt get their SSN yet, find some assisitance?
P.S. When my husband came to US everthing was good, he started earning money after a month, everything changed, our savings ara almost gone, as we bought couple of things plus rent etc.
April 4, 2020 at 14:23
1. Generally not.
2. I don’t know the exact details of how that will be determined.
3. I don’t know.
I’m sorry you find yourself in this position. If your husband was working before the lockdown he should be able to get unemployment assistance. Make that your priority.
April 4, 2020 at 18:55
Thank you
April 4, 2020 at 09:53
Hello Brit ,
I am only checking if you and your family are safe. May God save you and us from this crazy virus.
April 4, 2020 at 14:24
Yes we are fine thank you. We are being very cautious and have been pretty much isolated in our home for some weeks now.
April 4, 2020 at 12:28
Brit do you think the results for DV 2021 will still be available on May 7 or will they move them if they cannot do the letters for those who were selected? Thanks
April 4, 2020 at 14:26
I do not think they will delay that process.
April 4, 2020 at 15:35
Dear Britsimon,
Thanks for putting together your Q&A video. I am a european citizen and my wife is a south korean citizen. and I won the DV2020 and we currently live in Europe and we were expecting to interview at the embassy in the european country we are residing in. Is there a chance for us to change our embassy location to South Korea, should south korea’s embassy open up before the european embassies open up? her family still lives in south korea so we have an address there. So if south korean borders open up, and the US embassy in south korea opens up, is it possible for us to change our embassy to south korea and travel there for the interview? Lots of assumptions at play here but wanted to see what the possibilities are. Our case is close to being scheduled but not yet scheduled. Thank you and stay safe!
April 4, 2020 at 20:45
It’s possible, but changing the embassy location is not an easy process. It takes cooperation from BOTH embassies, and if one embassy is closed, that might not work too well.
April 5, 2020 at 11:00
Thanks, just to clarify, our CN is EU32xxx so not scheduled. In your FAQ page it seems to suggest that changing interview location BEFORE it is scheduled does not require coodrination between embassies. Or is this no longer correct during these times?
April 5, 2020 at 15:25
That is correct – but that would be a gamble based on what you assume will happen in both countries.
April 8, 2020 at 08:53
Hi, I do not recommend to change for South Korea. It is easy to get interview schedule there but very difficult to get approval of immigration EU DV visas. I had to wait for visa issue (with many other cases of my year) till September. It was more then 10 months. They just have placed many DV cases for Administrative processing. As I understand they do all possible background checks. So it may cause the long time waiting, what is quite dangerous for you.
April 4, 2020 at 15:53
Hello,
Thank you for your time and effort to help us.
My CN is EU21xxx, according to March VB I was due for interview on April.
On 26/Nov/2019 I sent my documents to KCC but, I was missing a document, and it took me months to get it. On March 12 KCC confirmed my documents to be completed.
According to CEAC data I’m at NVC,
Now I was wondering;
Since I’ve missed the 2NL for April, will they drop my case due to documents delay and also considering current circumstances. if not.
Then, any idea when should they schedule me for the interview, maybe you have an answer for me from previous cases?
Many thanks in advance
GjB

The pandemic is a much bigger issue that is affecting DV interviews right now. So – for now, wait – and watch the video I posted today for additional detail.

Hello Simon, I have a question. I am Italian, with both my parents being Italian and only have had Italian citizenship my whole life. I happen to have been born in Tanzania due to my parents job there as Doctors Without Borders at the time of my birth. That is my only link to the country. I have two questions:
1- Will the new ban for Tanzania affect the dv lottery 2021 if I am selected?
2- If so, is there any way for me to qualify as an Italian? It seems absurd to me that the country of birth should be this relevant since I have not been in Tanzania in 22 years, never had citizenship there, never had a passport from there or anything else other than the fact that I happened to be born there.
Thank you,
Martina
April 5, 2020 at 15:29
1. No because you have a citizenship from a non banned country.
2. No. It doesn’t matter what you think is absurd. The process allocates people by country of birth.
April 5, 2020 at 16:24
Thank you for a clear response. Can you please confirm my understanding is correct: even after the ban, they will draw entries for Tanzania for dv 2021 (meaning, all entries for Tanzania are not disqualified automatically because of the ban). Among the selected people for Tanzania those who are citizens (which I assume is the vast majority of them) will be disqualified for the new ban, while if I were to be selected I wouldn’t because I am a citizen of Italy. So I can still be selected in the draw on May 5 and if that happens I should not fear disqualification based on the ban. I appreciate you confirming whether I understood correctly. Thank you so much, Martina.
April 5, 2020 at 16:43
Regarding you, confirmed. Others charging from Tanzania may have different reasons to avoid the ban.
April 5, 2020 at 17:01
Thank you. I see. Two more questions if I am not taking advantage of your time. Does the ban mean that Tanzania won’t be eligible for the dv lottery 2022 or is it unrelated? Do you think the ban has any consequences on the numbers of selectees? I understood that some countries have more selectees because it can be assumed that many of them will be disqualified. Would that happen with Tanzania now?
April 5, 2020 at 20:55
2022 – unrelated.
Selectee numbers are unaffected by the ban.
April 5, 2020 at 13:27
Hello Brit simon
Hope everything is alright with you , About my situation my case number AF58xxx , i have sent the documents to KCC in November i only got the auto reply , but till now i didn’t get any email from KCC wether they are satisfied with my document or not, should i contact them ?
thank you in advance

You can do that.

April 5, 2020 at 17:23
Thank you for your video Simon. My host have 3 kids and wants to add me under her tax, she says it’s best for me since I can’t get a job right away, next year I can then start filling on my own, I do not know if it is a good idea but she’s trying to help, what do you think?
April 5, 2020 at 20:56
I have no idea what she means.
April 5, 2020 at 20:29
hello brit, AF35000, kcc confirmed to me (15 days ago) the reception of all the required documents, as well as the ds 260. I checked the state of my request for visa on ceac, I found this mention: at nvc.
1-at nvc mean what?
2-when I checked on my ds 260, I found this mention: at kcc. Which is the most correct mention?
thank you

April 6, 2020 at 03:51
People say am going to having problems to bring my wife to the states if I file for unemployment benefits as green card holder. How true is this. Thank you.
April 6, 2020 at 04:26
Well I know nothing about your circumstances, but if you are sponsoring your wife through family based immigration you will have to provide an I-864 showing adequate income.
April 7, 2020 at 00:37
Am a green card holder planning to bring my wife from Africa, Ghana. There’s this argument that if I file for unemployment benefits can’t I file for my wife in the near future.
April 7, 2020 at 15:57
That is the same question I just answered. I answered with as much as I know – so no need to keep repeating the question. I only answer DV lottery questions.

Hi Brit
I am 20 years old on July 23 I turning 21,and I am involved in my mother’s application. She applied on October 11, if she selected as a winner on May 5, will I have a chance to get a visa at the same time as her, or it all depends on the date of the interview by KKC to reach together in US??
April 7, 2020 at 01:06
It depends on many things, but first of all get selected…
April 7, 2020 at 10:25
Yahh i know but i saw your video for children under and turning 21 after application and after selecting winners on May thats why i ask you can i be a part of those children who gets visa without any problem if all steps are in order for example i have e birth date July 23 + 216 days when i calculate the results are 24 february 2021 or maybe i miss understood the video?!
April 7, 2020 at 17:35
That’s probably correct (I haven’t calculated), but AGAIN unless your parents are selected (one chance in 200 years) it is going to be a moot point. And if they ARE selected you would need them to have a LOW case number. So – for now, stop thinking about it. If selected we can talk again.
April 7, 2020 at 18:32
Greetings, Mr. Brit in these difficult times and hopefully we all make it through healthy. I have been looking for an answer but did no find around here, not sure if missed out. well, the question is as follows: What if ones get a visa before September 30th, shall the timing of the interview still counting? Meaning expiry of the visa will be after Fiscal Year has ended? Thank you and take care.
April 7, 2020 at 18:34
CORRECTION – Greetings, Mr. Brit in these difficult times and hopefully we all make it through healthy. I have been looking for an answer but did no find around here, not sure if missed out. well, the question is as follows: What if ones get a visa before September 30th, shall the timing of the Medical Checks still counting? Meaning expiry of the visa will be after Fiscal Year has ended? Thank you and take care.
April 8, 2020 at 02:57
The visa expiry date is set as 6 months after the medical. People are interviewed in September – so obviously there are people who get approved before September 30th, but travel later – sometimes months later.
April 7, 2020 at 19:05
Hi sir. Please I just wanted to know if the DV2020 selectees will be announce or something. I’m asking this because of the CONVID-19 pandemic.

April 8, 2020 at 02:56
Do you mean DV2021? That will go ahead as planned.
April 7, 2020 at 19:52
Hy brit
Thank you in advance
I am edv2020 winner from asia(nepal)
My question is ,
What will gonna happen to edv 2020 winner if the US embassies are not reopen till September?
April 8, 2020 at 02:54
If that happened (which I do not think is likely), then there would be a lot of disappointed people.
April 8, 2020 at 06:03
Hi Mr. Brit, thank you very much for the wonderful work you are doing by helping many of us to navigate through this turbulence waters. My question is; for some of us who were already scheduled before the out break of COVID 19, when the embassies reopen is it the embassy that will inform us on the new schedule or it will be the KCC again. Thank you ones more for your good work
April 8, 2020 at 13:06
The embassy.
April 8, 2020 at 08:36
Out of lottery, do you think it is worth it to go ahead to immigrate to US after corona?as the economy is going to drop down
April 8, 2020 at 13:09
I have posted videos about that exact point. The economy will be damaged by this lockdown, so for a time at least (probably the remainder of this year), things will be tough. So – people will need to decide for themselves. On the other hand, there will be a lot of jobs being rehired, so there could be opportunity in some areas that might play well for new immigrants.
April 8, 2020 at 13:47
Thanks, your answer is very satisfied
April 9, 2020 at 07:02
Hi, firstly thank you so much for the wealth of information you provide I honestly couldn’t have gotten through the process without you. I have gone through the FAQ page but was just wanting a tiny bit more clarification or even just assurance as with everything going on we would hate to lose our recently acquired greencard in the process. My husband and I were successful in activating our 2020 greencard on March 13th in Hawaii (prior to borders closing) so thank you again for your advice or we probably wouldn’t have made it!! We returned to Australia as we weren’t planning to move till October (we weren’t even planning to activate that early!). Am I correct in assuming we now have until **March 13th 2021** at the latest to move over and we should be fine to get through immigration (we would obviously be hoping for earlier but with international flight cancellations we have to assume it will be longer than 6 months)??? In addition as we activated in March should we have done an April tax return for 2020 despite not living there yet? Thank you for your time and consideration! Hope you and your family are staying safe.
April 9, 2020 at 13:06
Glad you made it. There is talk about extensions, but who knows when travel will be possible/safe.
You have 12 months from the day you left (it’s absence). Get someone to Fedex your GCs.
Since you activated in 2020, your first tax return due would be April 2021.
April 9, 2020 at 07:51
Im EU35k, around 1500 real cases in front of me, with little bit over 50% response rate, lets say 800 real cases in front of me. 4 months to go, what do you think?
Do I have any chances? It’s so close to my number…
Regards
April 9, 2020 at 13:10
If we assume embasssies will get to reopen then you obviously have a chance.
April 9, 2020 at 09:34
Hi Sir need help in this , I’m unemployed never being employed I’m 19 just graduated a two years college…
So of course on the DS260 at the Primary occupation part I’ll say STUDENT.
But I recently just got cast in upcoming movie ( that is delaying shooting because of the covid 19 ) .
So do i now make it PRIMARY OCCUPATION: ACTRESS ??
April 9, 2020 at 13:20
You graduated, So right now you are not a student – you are unemployed. If you intend to pursue an acting career, then you are an unemployed actress.
April 9, 2020 at 10:29
Hi Brit i just completed my dv2020 on February 26th, visa approved and I have already paid $220 for Green Card, I was to travel to the US on this April because my visa expires on 27th July but the government of Kenya cancelled all flights in an out of the country due to the pandemic, supposed this goes beyond 30th September, what will I do

Hi Simon,
Is it possible to change your GC adress in USCIS when you pay online ? Or only in the POE when you arrive in the USA.
2. Where can you change the S.S card adress? They also mail you right?
Thanks.
April 9, 2020 at 18:08
There is an online process to change your address with USCIS. HOWEVER, you should not rely on that to change where your GC is sent. They send it to the US address on the DS260 – so you last chance to change that is at the interview OR the POE.
April 9, 2020 at 19:19
Dear Simon
Hope to find and your family are safe during this difficult time.
I have got confirmation email of document received on beginning of Mars and i have not yet received my 2NL , i have contact yesterday kcc and they the novel COVID-19 outbreak all interviews and they dont know when they will resume scheduling interviews.
Please i need a clarification about my case is lAS24XX and normally it is current since the latest visa builtin the Asia region reached cutt off 15800 current cases.
So do you think i will be able to receive the 2NL as soon as the virus problem is over ( hopefully) they will resume sending interviews schedules.
Thanks a lot for your time and support.

I can’t tell you an answer with any degree of certainty.

Hi Brit!
Could I ask you what would you do if you were a selected of dv2020 and were close to be scheduled for an appointment?
I should have my interview in June, according what Kcc said me last time I called them (first days of March) .
I received my confirmation documents on 13 March and my Cn is current (27k).
I know it’s unpredictable this situation, but as you know this is a stressful process and Covid is getting all more difficult.
the big dream of life is Usa, I am so close and I am happy to be current but at the same time so scared to lose this chance.
I talk to you and ask any advice as I would ask a my dear friend.
I know you are a smart person and i’d like to know only what you would do in my place.
Should I lose my hope?
April 10, 2020 at 00:03
You can’t really “do” anything. All you can do is wait and see what happens.
As for “Should I lose my hope” – that isn’t even a sensible concept. You won’t lose your hope – no matter what I say.

Kindly click on “Missed my appointment” under the applicant summary page after the interview date has passed. That message is from usa embassy Nairobi. Where should I find the applicant summary page? Thanks for helping us britsimon. Hello and God bless you.
April 10, 2020 at 13:11
They are probably referring to their courier/appointment booking site – which varies by embassy (is often ustraveldocs). I’m sure they have already given you details – look more carefully at their instructions.

April 10, 2020 at 13:12

Hello Brit.
I want to ask you some questions hope i can have an answer
1. the situation in my country Albania is not to bad as other country due to this Covid if our prime minister opens the embasy here can we have the right to due our interview which was schedule on April 16th or we have to wait until all embasy would open
2.do you think even the May will be closed for interview
3. I have send the documents in embasy becasue i had to send those 3 weeks and after 2 days they send me an email the interview were postpone but now with a specific date its advantage that i have send early or it doesnt matter
Thank you so much
April 10, 2020 at 13:15
1. The embassies were closed by DHS centrally. I don’t know whether they will leave the decision as to open up to the local embassy or not. Your prime minister has no control over the US embassy.
2. I don’t know.
3. I don’t know.

April 10, 2020 at 22:49
hello brit i hope you and your family are safe in theses troubling time my question is i am a selectee for dv 2020 from addis ababa ethiopia and the embassy here is not closed it is still open and i check online that kcc is also open could there be a chance that kcc could schedule my case. my case no is AF55002 how does these process work in some African countries embassies are not closed so people in those countries like Ethiopia could covid 19 affect their process thank you in advance
April 11, 2020 at 23:26
The embassies are only working on essential services, and that does not include immigrant visa interviews. There is a backlog of cancelled interviews that will have to be rescheduled once services return to normal. The time to return to normal is not set. There is nothing more to be said – only time will tell what happens. You must wait and see.

Hi Mr. Brit,
I am 14xxx from Asia. I was schedule for interview on April 21st. I am from Sri Lanka. My country is having a islandwide police curfew. So I can not go out unless for an urgent situation [this is due to corona virus].
My question is
I still didn’t get an interview cancellation/reschedule email from the embassy, what should I do? Should I ask them?
April 11, 2020 at 15:46
Hello Mune,
I am in the same situation.. mine on 22nd April. I did emailed the embassy asking them to reschedule at least 2 week time after the embassy resume their services so that I won’t have to rush for medical. I had to cancel my medical which was on 31st April. I briefed them about my situation but what I got was their standard email reply,
“as of March 17, 2020, the United States Embassy in Kathmandu is cancelling routine Diversity visas and nonimmigrant visa appointments. From March 23, 2020, the U.S. Embassy is cancelling all routine immigrant visa appointments. We will resume routine visa services as soon as possible but are unable to provide a specific date at this time. The MRV fee is valid and may be used for a visa application in the country where it was purchased within one year of the date of payment. If you have an urgent matter and need to travel immediately, please follow the guidance provided at ‘Apply for an Expedited Appointment’ page to request an emergency appointment”.
So I suggest you to write to your country embassy and see what they have to say.
April 11, 2020 at 23:30
No. The embassies have been closed, interviews cancelled. All you can do is wait and see what will happen.
April 11, 2020 at 18:56
Good evening Mr Simons I hope you are well and May ALLAH protect us from this Pandemic. Soon the results of DV 2021 in the normal procedure. Due to the fact that the pandemic is so president, the Draw will be held in May.
April 11, 2020 at 21:02
What about Jesus Christ protecting us from this pandemic?
Or Bhudda
Or Hinduism
Or … any and every … God protecting us from this pandemic?
Not only Allah !
Seeing it is Easter and Christ died for humanity YESTERDAY!
As the United States is predominantly a Christian nation, which has welcomed all religions, may Jesus Christ (and all Gods) protect the United States and all mankind globally from this pandemic
April 11, 2020 at 21:50
Amen!
I hope everyone a blessed Easter Sunday everyone!
Lets not forget and remember the 2000 Americans that died today (in the last 24 hours) – the HIGHEST daily number ever recorded in the world
And 100,000 over worldwide that have died so far. Its so sad.
Visas and immigration can take a back burner for time being
Lets worry about humanity, our fellow beings and our own survival and NOT be selfish and think of ourselves only
Maybe this is a lesson God is teaching us!
April 11, 2020 at 23:36
Oh jeez. It’s not a lesson from any god. It’s a virus. Social distancing, washing our hands and science are the answers.
Why are you posting as Purnima, and then answering your own post as Terry?
April 12, 2020 at 16:51
And why dont you all Ask each one of your gods, allahs or whatever they are called this days, why he or she put the pandamic in the world in the first place ?
April 11, 2020 at 23:32
Is there a question there?
April 12, 2020 at 10:46
Will the draw for dv 2021 be postponed?
April 12, 2020 at 14:42
No.
April 11, 2020 at 22:22
I agree.
The United States is facing a situation of epic, mind blowing, unprecedented proportions, as is the rest of the world !!! The pandemic is having profound effects on every human being in every corner of the world
6 million unemployment claims in 1 week in the U.S. and potential economic depression, not recession. Trillions of dollars $$$ in State aid to kick start the US economy and mass graves in New York in Hart Island to bury the dead
Do you think the US authorities are worried and panicking and prioritising over whether “lottery winners” for 2020 get their visas or have their appointments scheduled?
Far from it – I wish people would wake up and have a reality check and accept the global situation – it is very serious and life changing
Lets think of the families and the people affected with their lives and health, than whether we get a Visa or an appointment !
Please wake up and sympathise and empathise with the situation we find ourselves in.
April 11, 2020 at 23:38
Now you are posting as Ketan???? Before you were posting as Terry and Purnima. Don’t do that. It’s very daft.
April 12, 2020 at 02:15
What effect do you see happening IF trump decides to open up the country/economy May 1st? Do you think the embassy’s would see this as a time to start reopening as well?
April 12, 2020 at 02:53
I really don’t know. Really.
April 12, 2020 at 18:17
Hello Brit

April 12, 2020 at 22:16
I don’t know what will happen – wait and see.
April 12, 2020 at 18:30
is any chance eu38k?
April 12, 2020 at 22:16
I don’t know – it depends on the pandemic.
April 12, 2020 at 20:40
Brit,
I really appreciate the fact that you give back to the community and help people because you came to USA throw the DV program. I respect that. You have great point of views. I enjoy watching your videos. Keep up the good work. I applied to DV many times but unfortunately I never been selected. Lets wait till the next 2021 results. Wish me luck and thank you for your great efforts.
