Hi Brit,
Last week when I contacted KCC to confirm about my documents I received the same reply as mentioned by another person ” Collect and submit your documents promptly. Your case will not be scheduled for a visa interview at a U.S. embassy or consulate until KCC has received and processed all required documents. Missing or illegible documents will delay processing of your case. If you cannot obtain a particular document, send a scanned or photographed explanation in of why you cannot obtain the document, as an attachment in .jpeg or .pdf format, to [email protected], with your case number in the subject line. Diversity visas are numerically limited and there is no guarantee a visa will be available. Only a consular officer can determine, at the time of the visa interview, if you are qualified to receive a Diversity Visa.”
After this, there are instructions how to send the documents and at the end it says my DS has been processed and that interviews are scheduled numerically.
The first time when I contacted them I didn’t received this kind of message but the another one that after sending the documents we receive auto reply and if there are attachments the auto reply explains we are currently processing your documents.
What do you think is the best to do? I’m afraid that If I send the documents for the second time now it will cause a delay.
Thank you for your help!

Contact KCC by phone and ask them about your documents.

June 16, 2020 at 13:40
Hello,
Excuse my question for being off topic
I’ve been selected for dv lottery 2021, my country of birth is in africa yet my case number includes EU which is europe region, I believe that I’ve chosen the country of chargeability to be the European contry I live in,
Would that disqualify my application?
If not, what shall I do to avoid it?
Thank you
June 16, 2020 at 18:52
If you have no legitimate reason to claim chargeability to an EU country, then yes you will certainly be disqualified. There is no fix.
June 16, 2020 at 19:04
What would a legitimate reason be exactly…I only have a residency and work permit there
June 16, 2020 at 19:28
Only if you were married at the time of entry to someone from EU.
June 15, 2020 at 13:16

Hi Simon,
My wife’s entry has been selected and my question is about the ds 260. I currently live in the UK but will leave permanently and go back to my home country in late August this year. So if I get a call for interview it will be in my home country. In this case should I submit the ds 260 now or can wait and submit in September this year or will it be better do it now.
Regards
June 16, 2020 at 17:44
Whether you need to submit now or not depends on your case number. If your number is medium or high there is no advantage to rushing to submit anyway – so I would suggest you wait until the relocation.
June 16, 2020 at 21:21
Thank you Simon,
I should have mentioned the case number earlier it is AS 22XXX range. I guess this is a high number.
Afzal
June 16, 2020 at 22:51
Right, so there is no point at all rushing to submit.
June 15, 2020 at 14:36

Hi Brits,
My spouse lived in US for about 10 years in 2 difference states many years ago. Does he need police clearance for US? How can he apply police clearance when we are not in US?
Please advise.

June 15, 2020 at 21:38
No need for police clearance from the US..
June 16, 2020 at 09:14
Hello Mr. Simon
My father won the DV Lottery of 2021, my question is about DS-260 form, he had finished high school about 40 years ago, for now he doesn’t have a high school diploma but he will get it but this takes some times, however in DS-260, it asked about date of starting high school and date of finishing it, and he doesn’t remember it pretty well. What should we do, should he take a guess about those two dates or wait for the documentations?? If he take a guess and we submit, and then diploma come and it has a difference with DS-260 form like the day or month, will it cause a problem ????
Thanks
June 16, 2020 at 18:33
Best guess is fine.
June 15, 2020 at 22:49
No police certs needed for the USA
June 16, 2020 at 14:31

June 15, 2020 at 16:51
Dear Brit,
I decided to resend my documents. At the time when I submitted the documents and the DS-260 my husband had an old passport. While waiting for the documents confirmation, the passport expired and now he has a new one. Should I sent the new passport now as they will be different from the DS-260 and the DS-260 is processed.
Thank you!

Dear Sir,
My husband randomly selected for DV visa 2021 program. Both birth country is Sri Lanka, currently live in Australia since, July 2019 in a student visa. We applied for the DV visa 2021 program from Australia. Our case number is AS 14XXX Can you please answer below matters,
1. I’ve got a doubt when selecting the location of the interview, whether should I select, Sydney (Australia ) or Colombo ( Sri Lanka )? because our student visa will expire on August 2021 but we are suppose to apply for temporary resident in Australia it allows us to stay Australia another two years.
2. If i can select Australia or Sri Lanka as my preference, as per your great experience what location is best for us to select for the interview ?
Thanks in advance for your great support.
June 15, 2020 at 22:56
1. Your interview location will be based on the country where you live.
2. You don’t get a preference.
June 15, 2020 at 16:57
Dear Simond,
My mother has single name and i filled it in surname instead of filled in given name by mistakenly. Does it makes really matter? Give some advice please. Thanking you.
June 15, 2020 at 22:57
Assuming you are the applicant that is no problem
June 15, 2020 at 17:11
Hi brit
If after the interview at the embassy I have been approved to get a visa. Should I go immediately to the U.S. or can I have some time before leaving to the U.S. ? In other words, can I wait 1 year / 2 years before immigrating to the U.S. ?
Thank you
June 15, 2020 at 22:59
You will have 6 months in which to enter the USA. Some people leave for a while – read the FAQ to get details about that.
June 15, 2020 at 17:56
Hello, I really appreciate the great work you’re doing.. Well I’m a dv lottery winner AF57k, I didn’t receive the confirmation message of documents yet I filled up my ds260 in may, there are 63k who validated their ds260 in July and the received the confirmation letter.. Should I contact the kcc or I’ve just to wait? Thanks in advance

Call KCC
June 15, 2020 at 17:58
Hi Brit?
I had an error in submitting my documents to KCC documents department.
There was an error with the DOB during the initial entry and it was corrected on the DS260 form. But instead of submitting the doc with the initial BOD, I submitted my doc with the corrected BOD. How can I solved that problem?
Kind regards.

After filling DS 260, I realized I made a minor mistake on one of the numbers of my existing B1/B2 visa. Can I get denied a green card due to this mistake?
June 15, 2020 at 23:58
No
June 15, 2020 at 18:49
1- I asked KCC to unlock the ds260 form and they did it, so what is the deadline to resubmit after its unlocked?
2- The reason why I wanted it to be unlocked is that I forgot to include high school. I have a bachelor degree and that’s the only thing I adde din Education. so SHOULD I include high school?
3- in Experience, should I put the exact job title in onetonline? I am a Mobile (android, ios) developer and when I search for that one result popsup https://www.onetonline.org/link/summary/15-1132.00 so should I add Software Developer in job title not Android & iOS developer?
CN: AF00065K.
Thanks!
June 15, 2020 at 23:59
1. No deadline.
2. Yes
3. Your actual job title.

Dear Brit,
Fyi: Case number: DV2021EU38XXX (Will (hopefully) become an embassy processing case)
First of all, many thanks for your very informative webpage and all the work you put in to help us super lucky winners?. Do find time for my questions?
1) Re: Education or work experience requirement. Education path:
Before reading up on this forum, I thought I would pass the education hurdle with ease. I read a statement about a PhD might have to prove his High School degree and you held an H1b and, despite of this and its requirements, you went for the work route. This concerns me and my situation.
My situation: I have an AA degree from a community college (based in the USA) and a bachelor’s degree from a selective university (based in the USA). However, in my home country, I did not follow the typical education path before attending the university. It is quesitionable if the education I did at home, before doing the community college is exactly that “high school equivalent.”
a. Should I even look deeper into this, and explain the education I did? As I clearly have more advanced (American) degrees, I thought I would pass this hurdle with ease? The requirement states …”at least a high school education or its equivalent…” I assumed that the spirit of this requirement is to set some sort of minimum bar, so the immigrant has some sort of minimum qualification. If the immigrant can show something more advanced, by US standards, I assume this is would pass. Am I too confident about this?
b. Fyi: I did not find a clear-cut definition on the embassy’s website regarding foreign high school equivalent degrees.
2) Re: Education or work experience requirement. Work path: I did stay in a position that would qualify, in the last 5 years for 23 months, but not 24. Furthermore, I am currently in another job that would qualify. Is it possible to add positions / experience or not?
3) Which route would you go for? Would you like additional information?
Thank you for your time!
June 16, 2020 at 00:06
1. This will be up to the CO.
1a. See 1.
1b. OK
2. All the time is added together. Document that well.
3. You don’t choose one route or another. The CO will ask about education, and may approve based on that or may ask about work experience.
June 15, 2020 at 20:09
Hi Simon,
Interested in your opinion, Is OC6XX a number you think would likely become current in 2020 / early on into the 2021 interviews
Cheers
Ben
June 16, 2020 at 00:08
Maybe 2020
June 15, 2020 at 20:09
Thank you Simon for all your hard work and I ha e few questions regarding dv2021.
My wife won and her number is 2021AS00030xxxx
1)I have lived in the states for many years and I had filed for I485 5 years ago based on employment and it was denied. Would that effect our chances.
2) 5 years ago I applied for a tourist visa right after I left the states in one month and the visa was denied, how will that effect me.
3) my visa expired on apr/15 and I stayed till aug/15 , overstayed less than 4 month. Would that make my presence unlawful in the US.
4)there are 2 question about In lawful presence in the US , one that say unlawful presence and one that say more than 180 days. I stayed about over my visa by 110 days, how should I answer these 2 questions.
June 16, 2020 at 00:09
1. Maybe – it depends on why you were denied.
2. Again – depends why.
3. I don’t know – but the fact that you overstay visas isn’t great.
4. I don’t know.
June 17, 2020 at 19:41
Hello Simon,
based on the questions i asked above, do you recommend for me to hire a lawyer to do the filing.
and second question ,for DV2021, do you think that the situation with Pandemic and the high Unemployment and Recession in the US will make fewer people to fill their DS 260 and complete their immigration paper?
I’m thinking that we my case number 2021AS30xxxx i might have a chance for next year?
what do you think?
June 17, 2020 at 19:52
I normally don’t recommend a lawyer, but perhaps it would be wise in your case to stop you making further bad decisions.
I don’t know how affected the reponse rate will be. Your chances will probably hige on whether the travel bans stay in place or not. I the banned countries such as Iran and Yemen were to be “unbanned” (possibly when Trump is no longer the president) then your chance will decrease greatly.
June 15, 2020 at 20:41
Dear Birt,
I decided to resubmit my documents. Previously when I submitted my documents my husband had a different passport. However, since we didn’t received documents confirmation email that one expired and now he has a new one.
If I resubmit the documents now, should I sent the new one as it will be different from the one that is already in the DS-260 form, which is processed.
Thank you for your help!
June 16, 2020 at 00:10
Submit old and new passports.
June 15, 2020 at 21:02
Hi Simon. My husband and I were selected for dv 2020. We were hoping to get the 2NL soon but we just got an email saying that the interviews have been suspended due to the pandemic. Is it the embassies that have suspended them or Kentucky? Also should we still have hope that we will make it to an interview before the September deadline? We are in Kenya
June 16, 2020 at 00:11
The embassies are closed. I don’t know when they will open.
June 15, 2020 at 21:32
Hi Brit. I had 2 weddings. One traditional and one in court a few years later. Should i record both on the ds 260 as 2 marriages with the same person? Or should i just show one?
June 16, 2020 at 00:14
The legal marriage.
June 15, 2020 at 22:52
Hi Brit. I have two questions:
I’m a asylum seeker and my case is pendante since july 2017.I live and work in Portland Maine. I still didn’t get the first interview sobre my case, so, what could be the reasons for that ?
For the safety of my wife and my 3 years and half daughter I would like to apply for the travelling document to go to Africa (not in my country) to bring my family in Senegal, I have some friends over there. Do you think I can reentry in the USA ?
June 16, 2020 at 00:17
I only answer DV lottery questions.
June 15, 2020 at 23:14
Last question sorry Simon,
Are they fussy if the police certificates are name only? Or has there been feedback that they require fingerprint certificates.. Case 2021oc000001xx
June 16, 2020 at 00:19
NO fingerprints required for Australia
June 17, 2020 at 13:50
Canada can be name only too?
June 17, 2020 at 18:38
I don’t know about Canada
June 15, 2020 at 23:21
I am sorry for disturbing but you have kindly said you already answered this question but unfortunately I cannot see your answer. So kindly help me with my question:
We are 2021 dv lottery winners. My wife who been selected and me and the children are listed under her name. Originally I am from Egypt but I become European citizen in 2014. In 2014 I have got the US visa but I did not travel. In 2018 I changed my first and lat name in Europe so my new name in Europe is completely different that the one in the Egyptian passport. So two nationalities with two different names. In 2019 I wanted to travel for a visit to the USA but when I called the embassy to check I been informed that I have to get a new visa with the new name because I have changed my name and that could cause confusion at the airport in USA and thats why I had to fill out a new application with all my previous data, new data, data of the Egyptian passport, old Swedish passport and the new passport with the new name. Then everything went we and I been to the USA last February and everything were fine.
When my wife applied for the dv lottery she add me with the new European name and she mentioned that I have Egyptian nationality. After we won i filled out the DS260 with new name BUT in the field which says write your name as in your native language i wrote my name in Arabic as it is written in the Egyptian passport which is totally different so I wrote Victor Nilsson and my name in arabic is Emad Ragheb Hanna (in arabic letters) , is that wrong? I was so so detailed in the DS260 about my nationalities, my passports, my old and new visas and that u changed my name do you think that could cause a problem or disqualify our case?
As well I have only listed my bachelor degree but not the high school education, is it enough or should I unlock the application and list my high school education?
Best regards

June 15, 2020 at 23:52
Simon, correct me if I am wrong…
But
The one thing they NEED is the High School education (equiv US version on reciprocity page of their country)
NOT ANYTHING ELSE – just that only !!!…is all they asking……….ITS NOT THAT HARD
Yet everyone offers anything and everything BUT just that?
They say…..I got
– Phd & Doctorate
– Masters
– Bachelors
– MBBS and Im a Doctor
– MBA
– HND
– OND
I don’t get it? I don’t think they care, even though …… usually ……you need high school to get those later on / after
Its NOT WISE to think that if you have the above, you must have high school – it just doesnt follow AND THAT IS NOT WANT THEY NEED FOR THIS PROCESS
All I see is they DON’T CARE about Phd, Masters, Bachelors degree or MBBS or MBA
They really only care for a High School Certificate (equivalent to US 12 years High School)
WHAT IS THAT PEOPLE DON’T UNDERSTAND?
Am I right or wrong?
June 16, 2020 at 00:25
Well people need to list their full educational history. That is important to qualify (and it varies by country) but also speaks to how someone will make a new life in the USA.
June 16, 2020 at 09:14
Hi Simon,
Question regarding full education history:
On the DS-260 it mentions under education, “provide the following information on all educational institutions at a secondary level or above”
I presume this would mean we do not need to list primary school?
Thank you!
June 16, 2020 at 18:32
Correct
June 16, 2020 at 01:13
Hello Simon.
Is there any difference between countries how likely you are to get selected. I am from Iceland, which has some 350K inhabitants.
Also does it have any influence, positive or negative, that I have B1/B2 VISA and have stayed in USA regularly for some years. As a marine engineer on private yachts, (only on yachts registered outside of USA) I have been coming and going but I have though never overstayed my limits or more than 6 months at a time.
June 16, 2020 at 17:46
The chance of selection is purely random based on how many entries within the REGION (not country). So – if Iceland had 1000 entries and Germany had 1000 entries the number of selectees would be almost identical. The draw is random, no other factors come in to play.
June 16, 2020 at 03:27
Hi Simon,
My entry for 2021 DV has been selected and my question is about filling ds 260. While filling DV my martial status was married and now my wife don’t have passport. Due to lockdown when I asked at office they told it will take more than 45 days. Should I fill myself now or need to wait until my wife passport is ready. As my case no. is also less i.e. below 1000 from Asia region.
And one more my wife delivery time is at middle of December and if we get visa also before December can we take our baby with us or there are some other process. please let me know your suggestions are too precious for me.
June 16, 2020 at 17:56
Personally I would suggest you delay the submission until you get the passport, and that will mean your baby is born and can be easily added to your case (described in the FAQ)
June 16, 2020 at 03:43
Hi Simon,
Thanks for this great site. Just wondering if you know if we can apply for AOS if we are currently in the USA on an i-Visa (Foreign Media)? I can’t seem to find a list of the non-immigrant visa that you can be hold to apply for AOS.
June 16, 2020 at 17:55
Possibly. As long as you have not been out of status.
June 16, 2020 at 18:05
Hello there,
I’ve made a mistake by choosing my country of chargeability to be Turkey while I’m Algerian living in Turkey, and now I’ve been selected in the lottery with a EU case number.
Would that disqualify me ?
June 16, 2020 at 19:22
Yes. Disqualification is certain.
June 16, 2020 at 03:49
Hi Simon,
What are chances for case no. 2021OC18XX considering likely low visa issued for my region.
June 16, 2020 at 03:56
Hi Simon, really appreciate your time answering these questions – it’s definitely very helpful to all of us.
My info:
– my case number EU 32XXX
– current status F1 STEM OPT – expiring in July 2021 (+60 unemployment days so I can stay in the US until mid September, but sadly can not work)
I have reviewed the AOS document and would like to proceed with AOS, but I have a question about my status.
After my F1 OPT expires in July 2021, can I stay in the US while my AOS petition is pending?
June 16, 2020 at 18:02
Yes
June 16, 2020 at 04:07
Hi Brit, My case is 2020AS25xxxx. I am waiting 2NL email for my interview. If every things goes right. which month interview will be held (July, August, or September) and when 2NL email will be received.
June 16, 2020 at 05:22
Hi Channa,
Did you receive the documents confirmation email?
June 16, 2020 at 18:04
We are waiting for embassies to reopen. If they do, we might see some interviews in August and then September, but if they delay the reopenings much longer we will lose August. July is already gone.
June 16, 2020 at 04:08
Good day Simon,
If my spouse is an LPR in the US, and I am attending the interview alone, do I still need to provide the marriage certificate?
June 16, 2020 at 05:51
Hi Mr. Brit
During the interview: Regarding the OC question on the immigration project, is the argument of working part-time and preparing a master’s degree convincing? Especially since it is genuine.
June 16, 2020 at 18:18
If its genuine – that is the point. It’s better to be honest, than “creative”.
June 16, 2020 at 06:08
KCC told me to send my doc’s directly to [email protected] to be able to see and check them – because of another (mystery) department. And now I got an answer – “The information you provided will be forwarded to the appropriate department. In the future, please send your required documents to [email protected].”
Exactly the same answer as in february :-/
Is it some sort of joke or new chapter of Catch-XXII?
June 16, 2020 at 18:19
It’s not new, it’s what I have been telling people to do for some months.
June 16, 2020 at 21:05
Well, today I called them again and their answer was: “Your documents were not processed yet, all you can do is wait (202EU45xxx)”. I think it’s the end of story 🙁
June 16, 2020 at 21:06
Sorry, 2020EU45xxx
June 16, 2020 at 07:04
Good day Simon,
I have a question: after the DS 260 is submitted, should we be expecting an email from KCC acknowledging they have received the form (and if so, when), or should we just wait for their email asking us to provide the supporting documents when the time comes?
Thank you!
June 16, 2020 at 18:27
Always list your case number with year and region.
Assuming you are DV2021 they will send document request in due course.
June 16, 2020 at 07:23
HI Simon,
Thank you for all your updates it really helps us.
I have a doubt which needs to be clarified.please help
I have been randomly selected for DV LOTTERY 2021. I and my husband both submitted the details required in DS260 recently but if my husbands mind changes in the end and he says he doesn’t want to go. will it effect my Chances of getting the visa?
June 16, 2020 at 18:27
No problem.
June 16, 2020 at 08:57
Brit, do you have any thoughts about upcoming visa bulletin? It’s very strange that people have called to KCC and they answered that all the documents are processed. Yesterday on the facebook group someone wrote that KCC told him that maybe there won’t be any 2NL for august. Why are they telling everyone different story?
June 16, 2020 at 09:14
EU35, what is the name of the group in fb? Thanks!
June 16, 2020 at 09:22
I don’t really know. My friend sent me a screenshot
June 16, 2020 at 18:31
That’s normal. People ask questions in different ways, they ask different people, and those people don’t know anything so they give sometimes inaccurate answers. The solution is stop being so jumpy every time someone says something.

Hi Sir,
I am in the process of filling the DS-260 application after getting selected in the DV lottery. I have one issue to be concerned about. My birth certificate states that I was born in Abu Dhabi, UAE. However, my passport (Lebanese, as I am a Lebanese national) indicates that my birth place is in Lebanon. That was a mistake done when I got registered after birth. So my current passport which I’ll submit to KCC says birth place Lebanon but my birth certificate says Abu Dhabi. What should I specify on the application? In the meantime, I have filed a complaint with the Lebanese authorities to correct that mistake, so I expect that my next passport will have my birth place in Abu Dhabi.
I appreciate your advice.
Thank you very much,
Zein

Thank you very much for the response. As I was awaiting your response, I also decided to phone KCC and ask them the question to ensure I am doing the right thing. After explaining the situation, they said its best I say I was born in Lebanon to match my current passport. Whenever I had to submit my documents and potentially get scheduled an interview, the discrepancy will be self explanatory with the documentations I will present. You agree with that? Thank you very much.

Brit, new visa Bulletin is published and it’s current in all regions. What should we expect?
June 16, 2020 at 18:46
More waiting – it’s all about the embassies.

Hello Sir,
Thanks a lot for this tremendous blog that help many people,
I have been selected for DV-2021,
And I wanted to ask you some questions,
1Q. I have case number 2021AF00019***,
and I saw on visa bulletin for the past fiscal years that AF cutoff case number never exceed 50k ,
For example: is it possible that my case number would be interviewed in December even though the cutoff case number of December can be 18k according to the VB?
2Q. According to your experience, how is possibility of my case number to be interviewed %?
3Q. I have 4 different Hosts and I will tell you their scenarios, I want to know who will be the best choice to use in interview:
1st Host: he’s US citizen, he is married ( has a wife and one young kid) and we’ve met via Facebook and he used to sponsoring chart organization in my country but we never met personally and he never came in my country, he sponsoring my education (from High school until now in University),food for my family regularly equal monthly amount, materials…
He’s ready to host me , he has high salary (more than 150k$ annually) and he is willing to gimme a job offer in his business before I even apply. He even gave me some extra funds when he sent the funds, now I have 4k$ in my savings because of his savings.
2nd Host: he’s US citizen, single and he works in US Navy, we’ve met in 2014 for 2months then he go back to USA, he was my sponsor on I-20 when I was about to apply F1-visa(student visa 2019) but unfortunately my visa had been denied, his salary is somehow low 25k$ though he use them as savings because all basic needs are given from the Navy and he’s willing to be my Host too.
3rd Host: she’s my Aunt, she’s married (with 2kids and hasbund) she has permanent residence, she is willing to host me though her salary is somehow low 40k$ but joined with his husband can exceed that amount.
4th Host: She’s cousin, she’s married (with one baby and husband), she’s GC holder, she came via fully scholarship then she applied for H1B eventually got a green card.
She’s willing to host me and she has salary of 60k$ .
Thanks a lot for your precious time!!

June 16, 2020 at 13:13
Hello Mr. Brit
I’ve been selected in a DV-2021 lottery. My case number is EU22xxx, me and my fiance will be getting married soon. I have some misunderstandings about DS-260 form and I have one question.
Does it require both of us to fill DS-260 form?
THANK YOU!
June 16, 2020 at 18:50
Once married you would typically have a DS260 each.
June 16, 2020 at 13:57
Hi Simon, my Case number Number is now current for August 2020 and i received 6 days ago Acknowledgment email that i have submitted all the required docs when should i expect 2NL for the interview and how long should i wait to email KCC if have not received this email. Thanks In advance
June 16, 2020 at 18:53
The embassies are still not open – so you have to wait to see whether they reopen in time.
June 16, 2020 at 14:11
Hello Britsimon! We are DV 2021 winners. Me and my wife have submitted the DS260 but we have listed the latest education we have which is bachelor degree, should we as KCC to reopen or case and list our high school education?
If we asked KCC to reopen our DS260 will this cause any delay in our case?
Regards
Victor
June 16, 2020 at 19:06
Your DS260 should have all education from secondary level and above. Change it.
June 16, 2020 at 14:24
Hi Britt,
I got a call from my aunt and she told me for the lottery, they announced that only nurses are needed or something like that. Please how true is this?
Also, she’s trying to follow up my documents so i come to Germany and be with her. What advice will you give me? Should i go ahead and follow my German plans and when called at the embassy, i come back home for the interview or should i stay?
June 16, 2020 at 19:10
She is confused with the information about medical staff.
You must decide your plans for yourself.
June 16, 2020 at 14:25
Hello BritSimon!
My partner won the Visa Lottery from South Africa. We have NOT applied for the DS260 and are trying to understand if he will be able to qualify.
Education: 12 Years of Homeschooled Education + GED
Occupation: Professional Videographer + Photographer, over 300+ jobs in the past 3 years. YouTube video editor & special effects editor.
Medical: Unvaccinated.
His number is in the 34,000 range so we realize we have a while to get his papers together before we need to submit.
Thank you and we appreciate all of your advice!

Hi Simon, I am a F1 studying here since 2017. I have been selected for DV-lottery 2021. My case number is 2021AS1XXX < 1500,
I had some questions while filling out DS-260 form. I got my F1 visa on May 2017 but I was rejected the same visa once before on December 2016. So my questions concerning this scenario are:
1. "Have any of your U.S. visas ever been cancelled" Yes / No
2 "Have you ever been refused a U.S. visa, been refused admission to the United States, or withdrawn your application for admission at port of entry ? " Yes / No
During my stay here as a F1 student, I have been issued a social security number so is there any need for me to issue another card or the old card works the same? The question is DS-260 was like this:
3. "Do you need a new card issued?" Yes / No
Thanks,
Mukunda
June 16, 2020 at 19:14
1. Answer honestly.
2. From what you have said -that would be yes.
3. No
June 16, 2020 at 16:13
Hi simon,
I have a question – I applied for the dv2021 but was not selected.
I am currently applying to an exchange program that grants a J1 visa.
My question is if I am granted a J1 visa which require you a 2 year residency afterword – can I still apply to the DV lottery?
Thank you so much for help as always!
June 16, 2020 at 19:15
You can apply, but if selected in some future lottery the home residency requirement can cause problems.
June 16, 2020 at 16:20
Hey Brit,
Documents had been submitted for case number 2020AF54*** since March 2020 and automated reply received. Initially, the lady at the reception always said they couldn’t know if the documents were received or processed. Now, She says Documents were NEVER received! Even though I submitted another set of documents 2 weeks ago.
1. Should I be worried?
2. How soon do I contact them again?
3. Should I resent?
June 16, 2020 at 19:16
1. Well that would be natural.
2. Immediately.
3. Of course/
June 16, 2020 at 16:31
Hi!
Sir, not a fraudulent documents but I am saying. My BOD was missed entered during the DV-2020 initial entry for which I notified KCC of that error and I was given the go ahead to process my doc. But in submitting my doc to KCC documents department; now, this is the problem, instead of submitting my doc with the initial DOB I didn’t do so but I submitted my doc with the DOB that is currently on all of my doc.
Sir, what can I do now? Should I resubmit my doc with my initial doc? Please, I need your help.
Kind regards.
June 16, 2020 at 19:18
You say things like “the DOB that is currently on all of my doc”.
What do you mean “currently”. Your DOB happens once in your life. It doesn’t change. You don’t change documents to a DOB that is not accurate.
June 16, 2020 at 16:35
Hi, do you have any update on extending immigrant visa process? my visa is valid till July. Did anyone request visa extension recently? was it accepted and extended?
June 16, 2020 at 19:18
No cases that I know of – because cases were not processed during the ban, and not during embassy closures.
June 18, 2020 at 15:59
Dear Magdalena, dear Simon,
I just want to let you know that my original DV has expired earlier this month and since I was really unable to travel and was able to prove it to the embassy as I have kept in close touch with them throughout the past months, I have been issued new visa under the same case number. I just picked up my passport and all the documents yesterday. However, please keep in mind that you will have to go through another medical and an interview and pay all the fees once again like I did. That said, if there is a way for you to fly to the US, I highly suggest to do that. If I am not mistaken and you are the same Magdalena as from the other comment located in Albania, Belgrade is a good option and also the airport I plan to use to fly to the US in order to not even transit through Schengen (after the immigration ban is lifted as my visa falls under the ban for the moment). However, from personal experience, to be 100%, I suggest you get in touch with US homeland security in Serbia, who essentially decide whether you are allowed on a flight or not. Hope this helps.
June 18, 2020 at 20:53
Interesting – so they transferred the visa number from the old visa.
June 19, 2020 at 14:58
Yes, they cancelled my original visa and reopened my DS-260 which I had to submit again. Then I needed to get a new medical and also a new police certificate as the one I used for the initial interview was obtained last September and would have been more than a year old before my visa would expire. Then I just had an appointment at the embassy where I delivered all the needed documents along with new photos and that was it. All of this happened in a span of two weeks, so very fast process.
June 28, 2020 at 09:11
Hi Simon,
as per stated above about my case (initial visa issued in 12/2019, extended visa issued this June before the extended ban was announced), I can’t seem to get a proper answer whether I am or I am not exempted from this extended ban. The embassy is saying that to their knowledge, I am and I should not have a problem to enter the US as long as I stay outside the Schengen for two weeks prior to my flight to the US. According to the DHS officer who didn’t let me board the flight last time, the ultimate decision will be on the officer operating that particular flight to the US to decide whether I fulfill the exemption assumptions. I have also read your answers to other people and watched your video but it seems no one really knows. Do you by any chance know who I can get in touch with who would provide me with a definite answer? Or would be just simply safer to ask the embassy to once again re-issue the visa sometimes in September to give myself additional 6 months and hope that the ban won’t go beyond the end of this year? As adventurous as I am, I would really like to avoid being turned around at the gate once again.
June 28, 2020 at 18:52
Many people are being told that they cannot extend or re-issue visas due to the Presidential proclamation. If you are holding a valid visa you are exempted from the latest ban. That is clear and not at all ambiguous. You may not be able to extend it again in September, so I would not assume that is a possibility.
The Schengen area ban is another thing – and that is likely to get worse as EU are about to block entries from several countries including, most likely, the USA. To some extent there is a “tit for tat” game involved in those decisions, but there is also somewhat a reality. The infection rate in the USA is climbing and our feckless leader makes things much worse with his every word. So – against that background, who knows what he will do next.
So – whilst what the embassy has said to you (about staying outside for two weeks prior to travel) is accurate to my understanding there are also statements from the government that they would stop that if they see it happening. So – stop looking for a definite answer. You aren’t going to get one. Make your plans and at the very least, activate your status.
June 30, 2020 at 07:33
So you are saying that with my new visa issued in mid June, I am exempted from the ban even though the 1st section of the June 22nd proclamation amends the termination date of the April immigration proclamation, which states only visas issued before April 23rd will not be banned from entering.
June 30, 2020 at 19:42
Yes – I believe that will be the effect. In reality they stopped issuance of visas, so the assumption is that someone holding a visa at the POE has a valid reason for holding that visa.
June 18, 2020 at 22:18
thank you for your comment, what about the issue date? is the same as previous one or did the changed it as well? Because immigration ban affects all visas issued after 22nd of April, am I right?
June 19, 2020 at 14:39
Hi Magdalena,
no, the issue date is the date the new visa was issued not the initial one. That is why I need the immigration ban to be lifted in order to be able to fly from Serbia. As long as it doesn’t get extended beyond its expiration date on June 23rd, I should be fine. Then only Schengen ban applies to me.
June 19, 2020 at 07:06
Hi N, I’m happy to hear that! Congrats! Could you please tell me what was the reason that you couldn’t leave your country when your visa was sill valid? Was it just Covid and travel ban or something else. Thanks
June 19, 2020 at 14:49
Hi Leslie,
it was only the combination of Covid restrictions placed on my country and all the surrounding countries as well as the Schengen ban. My country went on a full lockdown with all airports shut in early March and the surrounding countries followed in the next days. It was impossible for me to travel outside the Schengen as all the non-schengen countries where I could somehow get to by car or by the limited flights from the neighboring countries didn’t allow anyone besides their citizens and residents to enter and many countries didn’t even allow transiting. Only starting now in June, we are allowed to travel to some of the close by countries, but that was too late as my visa expired in the first days of June. In any case, if somehow possible and safe now that the restrictions are being downsized, I suggest to not waste time and go. If you have any more questions, let me know.
June 19, 2020 at 16:49
Hi N, thanks a million for your comment! Did you also had another interview with CO, or you just delivered all documents?
June 20, 2020 at 07:34
N- I have one more question. Do you have any medical education (nurse, doctor etc )so they can count you as a exception from ban and that’s why they give you new visa?
June 20, 2020 at 17:34
Training would not be sufficient – you would need to be a working medical professional.
June 20, 2020 at 07:49
Hi Leslie,
I did have to go to embassy in person, bring all the documents, pay the fee, scan my fingerprints again and speak with the CO but it wasn’t an interview in traditional sense. We just basically chatted about the unfortunate turn of the events and how to get to the US with the Schengen ban still in place, so not the typical interview. As for your question below, I have a master in International Management, so no medical background that would grant me an exception from the immigration ban. As said before, fingers crossed the immigration ban doesn’t get extended. then two weeks outside the Schengen and I am hopefully off. As soon as we get that stamp in our passports, we are good 🙂
June 21, 2020 at 21:13
one more question, N did you extend your visa before expire date or after? If my visa expire on 21 of July, may I extend it on for example 15th of August?
June 21, 2020 at 22:29
Extend AFTER expiry.
June 25, 2020 at 11:07
Hi N, I have one more question: which country reissued your visa? Was it during your visa was sitll valid or after visa expired. thanks!
June 28, 2020 at 08:53
Hi Leslie,
SVK reissued my visa and though we had started the process before the expiry date, the interview and the visa issue date was after the initial visa had expired.
June 28, 2020 at 18:44
This is Bratislava?
June 30, 2020 at 07:25
Yes, Bratislava
July 1, 2020 at 07:27
Hi N, I’m trying to contact embassy in my country becouse my visa expired too. Could you please share with me how did you contact with your embassy? Did you just send them a letter with prove that you couldn’t travel during pandemic or was is by e-mail?Thank you so much for reply!
June 16, 2020 at 17:23
In my country passports were renewed before the expiry date …should I fill the old passport i used to apply or the new one when am filling my ds 260?
June 16, 2020 at 19:20
