Hi Simon! I am a winner of DV2021 and I am a Hong Kong Special Administrative Region passport (“HKSAR passport”) holder. As a result of Trump’s executive order on 14 July 2020, HKSAR passport is treated same as a People’s’ Republic of China passport. Since there is no DV program for PRC, is my winner status still valid?
August 10, 2020 at 22:16
Yes you winner status is not changed, BUT you may have to wait for a while before you can proceed. Just wait for the November elections.
August 11, 2020 at 00:46
Hi Simon
Thanks so much
I received a message from KCC that my form have been Unlock, I want to know the specific time to resubmit the form back.
I have two questions again.
1: My last Child was born after I have played the EDV entry Around November 2019 I want to know if I should include him in the DS260 form.
2: We any changes affect my unlocked DS-260 forms on the day of interview.
August 11, 2020 at 00:59
1. Yes of course.
2. I don’t understand your question.
August 11, 2020 at 03:13
Hi Simon,
I’m a Dv2021 winner, I submitted my DS-260 on June 6th and still haven’t heard from KCC, you know what is the regular processing for the DS-260? I’m considering writing them about this because I think it is kind of strange.
August 11, 2020 at 03:35
Case number?
Processing time varies. Be patient.
August 11, 2020 at 23:33
Apologies, I forgot the inform the case number… 2021SA4XXX
August 11, 2020 at 23:36
So that is a high number and there is no point rushing at all – it will be a year before you get an interview.
August 12, 2020 at 13:40
Hi there!
Case number: 2021AF16K; I submitted the form and sent documents (without receiving the email asking for them) in late june & early july respectively, but still didn’t hear anything back.
1)Is it normal not to receive the email asking for documents until now?
2)Will I need to send them again if I receive the concerning email?
3)When do you expect my case number to be current?
Thanks in advance.
August 12, 2020 at 23:53
1. Yes
2. You can decide.
3. Waiot and see – it is not clear how the VB will go under the ban.
August 11, 2020 at 03:25
Good day Mr. BritSimon,
I have unlocked my DS260.
1. Is Keeping it unlocked for 2-3 months effects my case ?
2. And is there any specific time for resubmitting?
Many thanks.
August 11, 2020 at 03:35
1. No
2. No
August 13, 2020 at 09:30
Hello Mr. Simon,
The only option I have to avoid public charge denial is to put $10000 in a bank for 2-3 months. Now, no one knows the date of interview, and it can take longer for my money in the bank. I will get the statement from the bank after 3 months and take out my money back. Will it work ?
Thank you.
August 13, 2020 at 16:26
Probably not. $10k may not be considered enough, and the plan you have is obviously deceptive. Get an I-134.
August 14, 2020 at 12:11
No Please, how it can be deceptive ? I have enough money and that’s how I want to show it to the CO. By the way, I’ll put about $15k untill my interview. I hope this amount will be enough. Thank you.
August 14, 2020 at 22:01
You dont understand?
Why isnt it there all the time
And not only for 3 months
Thats the deceptive element
Where and why are you hiding it?
And if so, are thode funds really yours?
Dont you understand?
August 15, 2020 at 02:58
Oli, those funds are mine, only mine. I am running a small business. I can take out that amount. Why would I keep my money Idle for so long, why not use it to earn more. Dont you understand ?
August 15, 2020 at 04:32
Thank you Mr. Simon for your kind answers
August 15, 2020 at 12:50
Surely if it is your own business, you can demonstrate that separately?
Why do you you need to artificially move funds around
You are not making any sense whatsoever ?
Thanks Sofia for the wonderful compliments
August 15, 2020 at 15:44
@Oli – enough. Mind your own business. I don’t appreciate your comments here when this does not concern you.
August 15, 2020 at 13:36
Oli… Whoever you are, did I ask you something ? If not then get lost and mind your own business. Find someone else to argue with and to satisfy your ego. I am here just for Mr.BritSimon, a nice and polite person.
August 15, 2020 at 12:16
Dear Rohullah don’t worry about Oli her or his nose is very long and dives into everyones business just ignore her (him) and listen only Simon’s advice.
August 15, 2020 at 13:37
Thank you dear Sofia, I dont care about him or her. I am her just to take Mr. BritSimon’s advice.
August 11, 2020 at 05:28
Hi Mr Simon
I would like to know if the permanent address i filled on my DS260 is not the same address as my sponsor address on the I-134 Form. Will this reduce my chance of obtaining a visa ?
August 11, 2020 at 18:45
No
August 11, 2020 at 07:02
Hi Simon,
I am DV2021 winner & holder of B1/B2 valid visa as well
However during DV winner announcement I was not in USA, therefore I just need to check with you that “Is it legal to adjust my visa status after traveling to US back again.
August 11, 2020 at 18:50
Well, there could be problems, not least is the point you make about not being in the US at the time of selection, but also preconceived intention to adjust status and so on.
August 11, 2020 at 07:31
Good morning Sir ,
I am Dv2021 AS 110xx , I submitted my DS260 on 11 June 2020 , it is about 2 months I have not received my second email to send my documents .
1_ Should I worry about this , is it strange ?
2_ Do you suggest writing them asking about this ?
Pl don’t be annoying from my frequent questions.
Thank you very much for your help.
August 11, 2020 at 18:51
1. No
2. No
Patience.
August 11, 2020 at 11:16
Hello Simon I wanted to check whether you had any insights on my perhaps unusual situation. I have a low number (above 175 below 200) Oceania 2021 case.
My issue is that my Canadian police clearance has arrived with confirmation that, based on my name and date of birth I was not associated with any criminal record. However, the potential issue is that my fingerprints were of insufficient quality for a fingerprint verification. In recent years I have started suffering from hand eczema so it is not a surprise to me. I am living in the UK so needed to send my fingerprints to a service provider in Canada who digitised my fingerprints and submitted electronically to the authorities.
My question is whether I should 1) send the police clearance as is to KCC with all my other documents not making any mention of the fingerprint question 2) send the documents but specifically flag the fingerprint comment 3) try again to get another digitisation (the service provider currently has another copy which was courier because the first set was severely delayed by the postal system) and if this fails try get another set of prints.
As is stands my Canadian police clearance is no different to those issued by Australia and the UK as they do not require fingerprints.
I am aware that there is likely a huge amount of time before an interview would occur if indeed it ever does so have no issue taking the time to get a standard wording on my Canadian police clearance. Equally though if this is likely to be acceptable to KCC then my view is that I’d like to get all my documents submitted in case a window does open up for interviews at the London embassy.
Echoing the sentiments of many I am very appreciative of all the guidance you provide through your excellent site.
Best wishes
Charles
August 11, 2020 at 20:38
My suggestion would be send as is. With your low number you have time to obtain a new PC if needed, either proactively before the interview OR after the interview if the CO requests it.
August 11, 2020 at 11:34
Hello Simon, I hope that you are doing well! and thank you for your previous response! Regarding the question in DS-260 form; “have you been vaccinated under the USA regulations” I answered “yes” with that thought of getting all the vaccinations before the time of interview, do you think that it might be troubling and I should unlock my form and change my answer?!
My second question is a little bit complicated, considering the presidential election less than three months and my three digit case number; if in the next visa bulletin which we will become current and the interview time will be scheduled , do you think I should attend the interview or is it better to reschedule it?! By doing this am I gonna lose my chances in the queue?! With the notion of bans do you think if I get rejected during the last months of the current government, in the case of Mr. Joe Biden triumph, can I ask for a second chance for interview in the new government?! or is it better to postpone the interview at the first place and not risk the possibility of getting rejected?!
Best regards,
God bless you and God bless America
August 11, 2020 at 20:41
1. No problem.
2. Right now, with bans in place you will not be scheduled for interview until January – so no need to overthink this.
August 11, 2020 at 13:58
Out of curiosity:
There is no age limit defined, only the educational requirement of 12 years or job experience (that would boil down to at least 4 years: 2 years training + 2 years on the job).
In Germany, they make an exception from the 12 year requirement and allow a degree that only requires 10 years of school.
This could, at least in theory, lead to underage (15-16 yo) applicants, but barley 17 is easily possible for the rest of the world when school starts at 5 years.
1. Do you know of minors that actually got a visa on their own account?
2. If so – any chances of success w/o I-134?
3. Any regulations or procedures you are aware of (maybe AP until they turn 18?)
Thanks, be safe!
August 11, 2020 at 20:44
1. No – that would most likely not be approved.
2. Probably not.
3. No – they either are approvable by the interview/end of the year, or they are not. If not, the benefit does not carry over until the person is “old enough”.
August 11, 2020 at 14:18
Hello!
I am DV2021, OC region.
1) I submitted my DS260 in June (I thought we had to do it immediately) and received my request for documents a few weeks ago. I then got a new passport, so have unlocked the form to update it. I have now found out my job might be changing, and was wondering if there is any harm in keeping the form unlocked for a while? I think I might leave it another month or so until I know what’s happening for sure, to avoid having to unlock again. Is that okay?
2) When I resubmit my DS260, do I have to get a new request for documents, or is that overthinking it? Do I just submit it again and then send documents in a few months as though I never unlocked it?
Thanks so much!
August 11, 2020 at 20:46
1. No harm. Depending on your case number you might have to wait for a while anyway.
2. Overthinking.
August 11, 2020 at 15:14
Hi Simon,
My case number is EU14XXX for DV-2021, and I impulsively submitted my DS-260 on June 6th. My fiancee and I intended to originally have our wedding this year, but we decided to postpone it until 2021 in March due to COVID. When I realized that I was selected in the DV-2021 for further processing, we rescheduled our marriage back to this year. We got married in the end of June and at the time of submission of the DS-260, I did not add my fiancee to my application. Now I would like to contact KCC to add my wife. I have two questions in regards to contacting KCC:
1) We are from Canada, and we have not received our marriage certificate yet (and most likely will not get it in the next 10 weeks due to COVID delays). Is it really necessary to attach our marriage certificate to our request to unlock the application? I remember you mentioning it in one of your posts discussing situations similar to ours. With the current lawsuits going on and the possibility of TRO, I wanted to update my application ASAP.
2) In the letter to KCC, is it reasonable to explain our situation as, “My wife and I originally were going to have a wedding this year, but we chose to postpone it due to COVID to the next year. However, when I realized that I was selected in the DV lottery, we decided to move our wedding back to this year. I submitted my DS-260 on June 6th, and we had our wedding in the end of June. Would it be possible to unlock my DS-260 to add my wife?”
Thank you,
Best regards,
Andrew
August 11, 2020 at 20:51
1. No need to rush – but you can request unlock and see what they say.
2. Don’t write your life story (its actually better practice to only supply information they ask for rather than volunteering extra info for no reason). Just ask to unlock to add your new spouse. That’s all. Don’t forget you will alter your own DS260 AND add one for her.
August 11, 2020 at 20:58
Makes sense, thank you!
August 11, 2020 at 17:23
Dear Brit,
I am a dv2021 winer cn43xx.
I have sent all the supporting dox and yesterday I received a email from KCC for aditional document request with a generic email for passport clarification etc.
After that we call KCC and the lady informed us that the Passport Clarification was missing ( even that we sent in our first email)
She tald us to resend only the Statement.
1. Is it normal to sent only one document ( the missing one) or we should resend all the documents?
2. After we sent it do we expect the document confirmation soon?
Regards
August 11, 2020 at 20:51
1. Resend all.
2. Send it and find out.
August 15, 2020 at 03:21
I had same issue. I have sent only one document and just next week got email about confirmation.
August 11, 2020 at 20:50
HI Simon,
One of my friends’ friend (:-)) won DV 2021 from EU, and he told my friend that the interview will be held online. I could hardly believe that, but my friend told me that the guy was pretty sure. Maybe he was informed so by embassy after submitting ds260 and the documents? Have you heard anything about online interviews? Is it possible they will do this?
August 11, 2020 at 20:53
No that has not been implemented yet.
August 11, 2020 at 20:55
Hi Simon,
There is a DV2021 winner from EU who claims that his interview will be held online. He sounded pretty sure, so I thought maybe the embassy told him so after submitting ds260 and the documents. Is it possible? Have you heard anything about online interviews?
August 11, 2020 at 20:59
Hi Sir,
I hope all is well.I really appreciate your kind answers.
First of all i want to know that how can i donate some amount of money?
Secondly i want to know that if because of covid 19 i am stuck outside of USA and i will return USA after 6months but less than a year does it create any problem for me?
Best regards
August 11, 2020 at 23:33
1. Link at the top of each page.
2. No – you can be out up to 12 months with no problem.
August 11, 2020 at 22:25
Hi Brit.
Thank you in advance for your response and help on this question. I never changed by maiden name when I got married. I am the principal candidate. My application was for my husband and kids. What should be the family name on the ds260? Is it my maiden name or my husband’s last name.
Thank you.
August 11, 2020 at 23:34
The names should always be the accurate legal name.
August 12, 2020 at 04:32
Hi Brit,
I got 3 questions when i complete my DS 260, kindly answer for me please
1.Do you have documentation to establish that you have received vaccinations in accordance with U.S. law?
2.Are you likely to become a public charge after you are admitted to the United States?
3.Do you authorize disclosure of information from this form to the Department of Homeland Security, the Social Security Administration, and such other U.S. Government agencies as may be required for the purposes of assigning you a social security number (SSN) and issuing you a Social Security card and do you authorize the Social Security Administration to share your SSN with the Department of Homeland Security?
August 12, 2020 at 04:44
You should be using my guide.

August 12, 2020 at 06:00
Hi,
Is this child immigrating to the U.S. with you?
whats answer for the above
August 12, 2020 at 23:46
OBVIOUSLY you need to consider your circumstances in deciding how to answer that question.
August 12, 2020 at 13:18
Brit
Is there any reason for not receiving email from kcc for supporting documents?
August 12, 2020 at 23:52
Only not submitting the DS260.
August 12, 2020 at 14:12
Brit,
How long should I stay after receiving green card
August 12, 2020 at 23:54
Huh?
August 12, 2020 at 17:22
Hi Brit,
I have B1/B2 visa will be expiring 7 years later. Currently I am DV2021 holder. If I travel to US this year or next year for visiting my son before Green Card process and interview at the Embassy, Is there technically goingto be any problem at the US border?
Thanks and regards,
Mehmet
August 12, 2020 at 23:57
No
August 12, 2020 at 18:27
Hello! I won the diversity visa and I understand that also my wife has to fill in a ds-260.
My question is: she has to follow the same steps as me, introducing the case number (meaning my case number) or after I’m completing and sending my ds-260, we will have the possibility to access another ds-260 from my application page?
Another question: if she has to send her own ds-260, at the petioner part, she has to select me as her petioner? Or she will be her own petitioner, as I am?
Maybe I am wrong with all I wrote, so tell us how we should do.
Thank you for all your help!
August 12, 2020 at 23:59
You will have two DS260s – your CEAC home page should list her unless you married after the initial entry. In that case you add applicant. Then – just go through the questions the same as your form.
August 12, 2020 at 18:41
Hi Brit,
Can you give us your feedback on what happened today with the #dv2020winners? Thank you,

August 13, 2020 at 03:36
Hi, Mr. Brit,
Is it possible to use an “old” police (non-conviction) certificate issued back in 2011 from a country that I used to live in before 2011 and not anymore staying in that country?
Or, I have to issue a new certificate from the relevant embassy?
thank you
Regards
August 13, 2020 at 04:04
You can use an old one like that, but if it is easy enough to get a new one, do that.
August 13, 2020 at 06:20
Good morning Simon
I”m DV2021. So I’m completing DS260 for my 16 year old son (derivative) who is still doing his secondary education and will only sit for his O’level examinations in November 2021. There is a question which says “have you attended any educational institutions at secondary level or above?” should i select no since he hasn’t attained a certificate yet.
Thank you,
August 13, 2020 at 16:19
Secondary education is about age 12 and upwards, so the answer is yes.
August 14, 2020 at 16:56
Thank you so much. What then do I put on Degree/Diploma/Certificate received since he hasn’t sat for eXmas and also which date should would you recommend I put on Date of Attendance To.
Thanks once again.
August 14, 2020 at 22:57
General education.
August 13, 2020 at 07:17
Faith where are you from? Are you by any chance from Zimbabwe?
August 13, 2020 at 07:41
Yes Saul
August 13, 2020 at 07:44
Text me on 0027745805040, am also Zimbabwean and DV2021 winner
August 13, 2020 at 08:28
Hello Simon
I won a the DV2020. Between the submission and announcement Ive got divorced from my wife and she lives in a different country. My kids are under their mother’s custody. Should I still include them into my DS260?
Thanks
August 13, 2020 at 16:23
You would list them on your DS260, but not create a DS260 for each of them.
August 13, 2020 at 08:44
Hi Simon, I trust you are doing well.
Please help me with this question.
Are you permanently ineligible for U.S. citizenship?
How should answer it?
August 13, 2020 at 16:24
The question is about you. You have to answer it.
August 13, 2020 at 09:12
Hello Brit,
I have red that US department of state is going to comply with court order blocking public charge rule
I got that information on this website:
https://www.balglobal.com/bal-news/us-state-department-to-comply-with-court-order-blocking-public-charge-rule/
is it real?
August 13, 2020 at 16:25
Yes – but it is a block on an expansion of rules that the current administration implemented. The existing public charge rules still apply to all immigrant cases, including DV.
August 13, 2020 at 10:56
Dear Simon
under the current Covid19 visa freeze, is it better to submit DS260 early or to delay it until things are more clear?
same thing for sending supporting documents, is it better to delay or send ASAP.?
region Asia ,Country Kuwait with low case number XXX.
August 13, 2020 at 16:28
Either way is fine.
August 13, 2020 at 12:14
Hi brit, thanks for your continuous support. I’m Dv2021 case number 2021AF17*** winner and I have submitted my ds260 form. Unfortunately i have noted that i wrote a wrong date of passport issued in one of my derivatives, 14/06/2019 instead of 13/6/2019 can i send an email to unlock and correct the error.
August 13, 2020 at 16:30
Yes. Read the FAQ about unlocking.
August 13, 2020 at 14:33
Hi Simon,
How do I get ds-260 for my spouse and kids. All my kids are below 7 years age. Is the DS-260 of derivatives different from the principal DS-260?
August 13, 2020 at 16:31
Same form. They would be listed when you sign in to your CEAC homepage.
August 14, 2020 at 08:02
Thank you so much for your tireless support.
August 13, 2020 at 14:50
I am a DV2021 with CN: 2021AF21xxx. I am not sure about my chance (big or small number”.
My main question: Do lottery winners need to prove they are wealthy (via bank statements or so) or affidavit of support in DS-260 or during the visa interview?
August 13, 2020 at 16:33
Please make sure you are reading the FAQ and other articles to guide you – so that you don’t have to ask questions I have already answered.

August 13, 2020 at 22:16
hello Brit,
I am in AP for DV2020, today while I check the status of the case it changed to different refused statement “A U.S. consular officer has adjudicated and refused your visa application. Please see the letter you received at the interview.
For more information, please visit TRAVEL.STATE.GOV.”
Also the same status happened to two of DV winners who were been scheduled on March but because of Embassy closure they could not attend the interview.
what do you think is going on for me and them
August 13, 2020 at 22:33
AP cases have recently been changed to showing the status as “refused”. It is probably just that, but I cannot be certain as there is no way to tell the meaning behind a status update.
August 14, 2020 at 14:10
That ok, what about the winners of dv2020 who did not even interviewed and get refused lately
They been scheduled for interview and last week they get refused
August 14, 2020 at 22:49
Obviously it depends on the reasons for the rufusal.
August 13, 2020 at 23:53
They are two type of refuse as what I understood.
1- a refusé with long text.
2- a refuse with sort texto such as: A U.S. consular officer has adjudicated and refused your visa application. Please see the letter you received at the interview. ” It is certain.( my cousin and his wife same thing).
August 13, 2020 at 22:49
Hey Simon, What happens to the winner of 2020 now that embassy is closed? Thanks.
August 13, 2020 at 22:56
Some embassies are reopening, but there are bans that halt visas being issued. There are lawsuits challenging the bans – please read the latest articles about that.
August 13, 2020 at 23:31
Hi Simon, is it normal that the September visa bulletin is taking a long time to be published?
August 13, 2020 at 23:50
It is not late.
August 13, 2020 at 23:44
Hi Simon. I am a winner of 2021 #2021AS14000 eligible from Iran. I live in Canada and hold Canadian citizenship.
1- What is your estimated time of my interview?
2-Does living in Canada and being Canadian help in the process?
Thanks, man!
August 13, 2020 at 23:53
1. It is too early to know – but it will likely be months from now – certainly not 2020.
2. Yes, that could help.
August 14, 2020 at 03:12
Dear BritSi,
I am a winner of the DV2021 lottery with case number 2021OC000020xx. I submitted my DS260 form in June, then had it unlocked due to an address change, updated and resubmitted early July. My friend has received the email from KCC to submit his docs and he has a higher case number than me. Is the reason I have not heard from KCC because I unlocked my DS260? Is it worth reaching out to them?
Thanks, Ben
August 14, 2020 at 03:59
be patient. Your interview is probably a year away, so what is your rush?
August 14, 2020 at 03:29
Hi Simon
It is truth that 2021 lottery will be cancelled?
August 14, 2020 at 03:56
no.
August 14, 2020 at 06:39
I want to unlock my form, and just watched your Youtube Video and you recommended that we don’t do it later on in the year as it could affect our case. If I am a DV 2021 winner, is emailing them now (August 2020) ok to do?
August 14, 2020 at 06:59
Case number ?
August 14, 2020 at 12:11
The DV2021 year hasn’t even started yet.
August 15, 2020 at 11:21
Okay cool thank you, so it’s fine to email them? 🙂

Your status is the same as everyone else. Your case is affected by the immigrant ban, and have to hope for some news from the lawsuit challenges of the ban. Read the recent articles.

Hi Simon,
Please what happens when you submit your ds-260 form and receive documents submission email
Two weeks later after submitting your supporting documents you unlock your form to change your US address because your contact in the US has moved.
Does your case get processed from where it left off or you get documents submission email again?
Thanks a lot.

Hello,
If there is an immunisation I don’t have / or can’t confirm i have had; should I wait for the medical for them to do it there? Or do I have to organise it myself before the medical?
Thanks

Hi Simon, I would like to know if when I go to send the documents that request my birth certificate and criminal record to the kcc, is it necessary to translate them into English? I am from Cuba and all those documents are in Spanish

Their instructions cover that. So – wait for their instructions.

Do them at the medical.

Hello Mr. Simon!
I was arrested once in a plane due to suspected terrorism and then released after a lengthy investigation that lasted three hours. However, my PC was taken for a further investigation that lasted one week. It was then returned after no evidence of terrorism-related activity was found. My father has won the lottery already. Will we (as a family) be disqualified as a result of my previous arrest? I don’t know if this is relevant, but I was neither handcuffed nor put in prison.

That might affect you, but not your father.

Simon Hi, I’m from Argentina, do I have to complete the affidavit of support (I-864)?
August 14, 2020 at 23:00
DV cases use the I-134.

Hi Simon.
1 Is i-134 mandatory for all DVs?
2Can it be that some embassies do not request it l-134?
3 if the I-134 were mandatory and in my DS 260 I did not put any sponsor, should I request to open the SD260 and add a sponsor?

Hello Simon
I’m dv winner 2021 from EU.
CN 72xx
DS-260 sent on 18 June me as principal and on 19 June for my husband and my kids because of the overloaded system.
No email from KCC up to now.
As I heard there are people even with cn bigger than mine even 10k that have received the email…
Should I worry? How much do you recommend to wait or should I take any action to write or call KCC?
Thank you for your time.
Ann

Neither number is high.
