Hi Simon, thanks for all your hard work – you’re doing a great job here! I have a question about unlocking the DS260.
18 years ago my wife & I were living in Toronto on a work permit. We became permanent residents & had to cross the US border to activate our new Canadian status. The overly officious US border guard, instead of letting us in for the day, turned us around & said the way they process it is to deny us entry to the US & we immediately enter back into Canada as permanent residents. He was quite specific that it was a ‘no harm, no foul’ situation, but I fear this will be on my wife & my US record.
All your comments about unlocking the DS 260 ASAP have got me thinking I should unlock it – when I was filling in the DS 260, I didn’t think too much into it but now I think it could be a problem.
My question is, when I unlock the DS260 & indicate we have been refused admission to the United States, is there a field where you can write an explanation, or do we just have to hope the KCC have the details in their database?
January 7, 2022 at 16:56
You are overthinking a trivial matter.
January 9, 2022 at 22:56
Oh I hope so thank you. I do sometimes get pulled for secondary processing when I go through US customs (but nothing eventuates), so I’m sure it’s in their system. Hopefully answering no on the DS260 will be fine.

Hi Brit I hope you are in a good health,
I am in big dilemma I have had an interview in January and my number became current in January’s visa bulletin. so my interview was set before my number become current. I registered to the embassy site and everything was good until three days ago they called me and say we are sorry but your number is not current yet and we have to reschedule your appointment to February, I told her 10 times that my number is current and she denied that and I am 1000 % sure my number is current. So they sent me a new appointment. I sent them two emails and they did not respond and I have been calling and no one is answering they tell you on the phone to send emails(recorded message). what do you advice me to do should I go to my Jan interview taking in mind that they did a mistake I am afraid to not go and my so my visa. or should I wait to February interview.
if I went to embassy to ask a question can they answer me or not. I know that it’s prohibited and they do not let anyone in unless you have an interview. please help me sir. what should I do.
Thanks for your time and efforts really appreciated
January 7, 2022 at 16:58
Don’t you think that giving me a clue about the case number would have helped me answer??? I suspect you are actually incorrect and the embassy is correct.
January 7, 2022 at 12:04
Hello Sir,
I hope you are great!
I have a small surgery in my neck which I did almost 7 years ago. But no longer have its documents. So will it be needed while doing the medical test? If yes, the what is the solution because I have lost them already.
January 7, 2022 at 13:41
Not needed! The medical is mainly a short physical examination (think: follow my finger with your eyes. Grab the doctors hands and squeeze them. Walk in a straight line). The most important thing is your vaccination records; they will have to re-vaccinate if you cannot prove you were already vaccinated for something. That will often cost money. They also test you for specific communicable diseases, such as tuberculosis and some STD’s. No need for your medical record unless it’s relevant, for example to prove that you are under treatment or recently cured of one of those conditions.
January 7, 2022 at 16:58
No one cares about that.
January 7, 2022 at 13:27
Hi BritSimon,
First of all: thanks for the great work, I really appreciate your support!
I’m DV2022EU24xxx winner and sent in my DS 260 in July. As far as I understand it, my casenumber is rather high with month to wait until I would get an interview- if I get one.
I recently got married and my husband is a greencard holder. I have 2 questions:
1. Is it necessary to unlock my DS260 to report my changed martial status although he obviously wouldn’t need to get a DV greencard? Or could unlocking negativly impact my chances to get an 2NL(especially considering the disarray that ist currently going on at KCC and considering the changes in the document procedure)?
2. Do I have to bear anything in mind when starting a second/ familybased GC application?
Thanks in advance and best regards!
Liz
January 7, 2022 at 17:00
1. Yes. It is an important change in your status. Unlock and correct.
2. No
January 7, 2022 at 15:26
Dear Simon,
As you know KCC started to transfer Iraqi selectee cases to other embassies. I have to questions regarding that as below:
-Is that is only for 2022 selectees or for previous ones also, such as 2020 who still don’t know they will be among 9095 reserved visas or not?
-Based on your experience and the data you have, which embassy do you recommend for Iraqi selectees?
Best regards
January 7, 2022 at 17:01
1. Currently it only affects DV2022
2. I don’t have a recommendation.
January 7, 2022 at 16:54
Hi Simon, a friend of mine is a Moroccan citizen born in Morocco put Saudi Arabia as the issuing country of his passport because he renewed it there. But he is chargeable to Morocco and has an AF case number. Should he unlock the DS or correct this at the interview?
January 7, 2022 at 17:02
He should unlock now.
January 7, 2022 at 17:24
Hi Brit,
My dad died 2 months after feeling my DS260, do i have to unlock our just mention it at the interview.
Thnx,
Khalid
January 7, 2022 at 17:31
At interview is fine.
January 7, 2022 at 17:55
Hi Brit,
Thank you for things you do. Your help for us is priceless.
My case number is 12k EU (current). I got the ‘Ready’ status on 4 Jan, but the information on dvprogram.state.gov wasn’t updated so I don’t know any info about the interview appointment.
I’ve contacted KCC and the embassy about this situation. KCC hasn’t replied yet. The embassy replied that I should address all the Diversity Visa related questions to the KCC. But if the case is ready that means it should be already in the embassy.
Would you recommend to wait for a reply from KCC or anything else?
Thank you in advance,
Victor
January 7, 2022 at 18:45
KCC are answering emails pretty quickly – so make sure your question is clear and your case is correctly identified with name, FULL case number and DOB
January 8, 2022 at 09:02
Hi Vector,
I am facing the same issue, did you get any response from KCC about that or not yet?.
January 7, 2022 at 18:34
Hi Brit,
Could you please reply with the link for your article you take about sponsorship form for dv winner.

Hii Brit
My query is regarding court and prison records.
Court and prison records are to be submitted by everyone or by those who were convicted?
Thank you.
January 7, 2022 at 20:12
You won’t have court or prison records if you have not been in prison or court.
January 7, 2022 at 20:20
Hi mr simon
What do u suggest for a case number 32k who live in ethiopia? FYI US EMBASSY IN ETHIOPIA is not working both nonimmigrants and immigrants visa process would it be appropriate choice to change location? And is there any US EMBASSY that process a selectee with residential document in that country?
What shall we do
Thanks
January 7, 2022 at 21:20
As it stands today (although it could change), you will need to change your interview location. Some have done so already. So – figure out where you could safely be for a few weeks, and ask KCC to make that change.
January 10, 2022 at 12:20
For that matter should i be a resident to that country? A country Which i decided to change my interview location.
Thanks a lot.
January 11, 2022 at 15:06
Not normally needed.

I was born in Iran but also I am Australian citizen,, I am a DV winner of 2022, I have read alot about it and I know I should have picked Iran as my country of chargibility, however I made mistake and I chose Australia as my country of chargibility, I know this is a mistake, howeber i would like to know if there si any way out of this. I have got a wife from Iran whci is accompanying me and i enetred her name as my derevative, is there any possibility that the consulate ignore my mistake based on her presence ? and count both of as principal applicants?
January 8, 2022 at 03:45
No, there is no chance of approval.
January 8, 2022 at 04:02
Hey sir I am a Moroccan living in Saudi Arabia, and I got DQ. The important thing is that I discovered a mistake in the first registration and in the DS 260 regarding the country of issuance of the passport, so I put Saudi Arabia instead of Morocco, because I renewed it at the Moroccan consulate I want to know what is the solution, please
January 8, 2022 at 04:07

January 8, 2022 at 10:12
Hello Brit,
My DV22 case number is EU 227XX, which seem quite high. The case is in Budapest, Hungary.
(1) Do we have number on the number of DV winners in specific country for DV22?
(2) If we assume that KCC processes cases based on case number, does it mean that they process cases based on the case number in the region, or based on the case number in the specific consulate?
So, for example, if EU cases 20-23k become current and Budapest post has capacity, is it possible that my 227XX case is processed faster than 20XXX case in the post, that has less capacity?
Thank you so much!
January 11, 2022 at 14:40
1. Yes – in the August 2021 visa bulletin
2. For your example – yes.
January 8, 2022 at 13:00
Hi, Im DV winner from Ethiopia and my case number is 8k as you aware Ethiopia is in emergency situations and my case is current now, is it okay to change my interview location in this time ?
January 11, 2022 at 14:40
Yes you must.
January 8, 2022 at 14:40
Hello Brit,
Thank you for you amazing effort
I’m a 2022AF56373 and my interview will be in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia), I see from the data that AF has now gone up to case 2022AF19989, that’s almost half the way for me, and the visa bulletin for February is 20,000
My question is: will this process go like it it? meaning they’ll continue forward with the numbers? or still some processing of lower cases will take place?
Should I expect a (before May/June) interview or after?
I submitted my DS260 on December 9, 2021
Thank you again
January 11, 2022 at 14:42
Not every case under 20000 has been interviewed. So – you cannot rely on the pace to continue in the same way.
January 8, 2022 at 14:44
Hello Brit,
Thank you for you amazing effort
I’ve updated my passport and put the new number in the DS260, I still have the old passport witch I used for the DV entrance, now since there is no document to be sent to KCC, will that cause an issue (will they disqualify me?) or I just bring both passports to the interview?
Thank you again
January 11, 2022 at 14:43
Yes take both passports to interview. BUT I suggest you send an email to KCC explaining that you have replaced your passport and can show the old and new ones.
January 8, 2022 at 15:03
Hello sir,
When I sent my ds260 in may 2021, they asked me the last time I been to the usa. Wich is feb 2020. But i went back there in december 2021. Is that a problem about the ds260 ? Do I have to change the informations or I just need to say that I went back once the borders opened ? Thank you
January 11, 2022 at 14:43
No need to unlock.

January 11, 2022 at 14:45
There is nothing you can do at this time. If you are a plaintiff on Goodluck or Goh lawsuit you might be able to process later – they are targetting April.
January 8, 2022 at 19:17
You need to least the last 5 times you have been in the US if I remember correctly. So if you webt back it should also be on the list.
January 8, 2022 at 23:59
I put only one time as I understood the last time I been there…???????? is it a big problem ? How can I correct it ?
January 9, 2022 at 00:01
Only answer the question they ask and don’t panic. If they asked the last time only then put the last time only.
January 8, 2022 at 19:34
Hello, Brit )
What do you think, if the US government only in April says about the interview for the winners in 2021, it might be that only 5000 thousand winners will be able to pass the interview, and the rest will not have time?
January 11, 2022 at 14:46
Why create estimates without any basis?
January 12, 2022 at 18:35
Thank for you answer.
It is a good idea if I will wait April and hope that everything will be good.
When I can disturb you about what us government will decide ?
January 13, 2022 at 17:03
April
January 9, 2022 at 00:03
Hi Simon. How are you doing? I have a question. DS260 was completed on 9 June, a little bit late because I followed the procedures of marriage immediately after the DV results. Anyway, I’ve sent the documents without being asked on 17 Sept.(I’m aware that KCC won’t ask for them) and then I made two inquires about my status to KCC. 1st was on 29 October and the last one was on 25 November. Both responses were that my DS260 is processing. Do you reckon I should write them once again about my status since my number is current from VB December and I haven’t received any news? Much appreciated.
January 11, 2022 at 14:47
No harm in asking again.
January 9, 2022 at 07:44
Hi BritSimon,
First of all, thanks for the great work, I really appreciate your support!
I’m DV2022AS23xxx winner and sent in my DS 260 in Sep. As far as I understand it, my case number is rather high with month to wait until I would get an interview- if I get one.
1- KCC still didn’t send me the email to submit the requirement documents ,should i wait KCC to send me or i can submit all the requirements documents without they ask for ??
kindly your advice
your cooperation is highly appreciated
January 11, 2022 at 14:50
Documents are no longer required. They changed the procedure in December.
January 9, 2022 at 11:09
Hi Brit, can we include foregn tours(2 weeks period) we had during last 5 years for the below question in DS-260 ? Have you traveled to any countries/regions within the last five years?
January 11, 2022 at 14:51
Yes
January 9, 2022 at 15:14
Dear Simon,
I am DV winner Planning to enter US within some weeks time. My sponsor was from wisconsin but now I am planning to go to my relatives in Boston. Please advice if I am allowed to do so or not??? Can I use any airport as entry point to enter US or I need to use Wisconsin Airport Compulsorily??? Your kind advice would be appreciatable.. Thank you. SKY
January 11, 2022 at 14:51
Go anywhere you want.
January 9, 2022 at 15:27
Hi Mr. Simon. First I thank you in advance for your answer sir.
I’m DV2022 CN 401XX winner from Ethiopia, with my spouse and 2 kids.
Question #1. I’m planning to change my interview location b/c Addis Ababa US embassy is currently not working DV Cases. So If I change my interview location, the “X” country embassy that I’m going to change, how can they check my documents whether they are valid or invalid???
Question #2. Is it a must to live for a specific time period in that country I changed? or Just only updating the address on my DS260 then travel to that country when the appointment is scheduled ? Because As i mentioned above, I have 4 family members. You know that living more than weeks in another country is expensive and difficult with kids.
Question #3. How can I take the medical check up and other related things and in which country I will be expected to take?
Please, I need your brief explanation..
Thank you again sir.
January 11, 2022 at 14:53
1. If they don’t recognize your documents they will delay your case while they are checked.
2. Not normally, but yes you must be there before the interview to perform medicals and will need to wait for the passports. Yes it will be difficult.
3. Follow procedures for that country.
January 9, 2022 at 15:55
Dear Simon,
Dv Winner planning to enter US. Can I stay in different state from my sponsor and receive my greencard in different state?? please suggest me the ways to receive the green card as I am planning to stay with my relatives in different state from my sponsor.
January 11, 2022 at 14:54
The address you provide on the DS260 is where the GC will be sent. You can live somewhere else and have the GC mailed to you.
January 9, 2022 at 17:24
Hello BritSimon, I really need help !
I just realized that there are some careless mistakes in my DS260. I am case number arround 20 000….
Thank you for clarifying each error:
1. My first name is Youri, my middle name is Francis. But on my passport, it is written Francois and not Francis, being the French representation of this name. However, when I registered, I put my name Francois and not Francis, as written in my passport. Except that on the birth certificate, it is written Francis and not Francois. Should I change my middle name to Francis, as written on my birth certificate, or leave Francois written as on my passport? Or in ” other names used ” maybe ?
2. In the “family information” section.
They asked for the names of the parents, I wrote only their first name and not their middle names. While it is written “father’s given names” and “mother’s given names”.
Should I add it? Is it serious not to have added them?
3. As asked in another question, in the section of the trips to the USA, I understood that I had to put the date of the last visit in the USA, and not the last 5 visits. This means that I only add one date. Is this a problem too ? Knowing that I returned to the usa at the end of 2021, after sending my ds260 in May 2021.
4. In the “work/education” section
When filling out the ds260, I marked “not employed” which was the case due to the pandemic. But if I find a new job, or if I create my own business, should I modify the section too? Or just explain that I found a job and created my company in the meantime?
5. In the section “have you traveled to any other countrys within the last 5 years” on page 6.
I wrote that I only went to England. This was the case at the time of sending my form in May 2021. But I went to Mexico end of May/beginning of june as well, 2 weeks later. Is it a problem not to have put it or should I add it too?
Sorry for all these questions but it is very important and I hope you can give me a clear answer for each question. And that it is not too late for me to modify the ds260 if needed. Thanks
January 11, 2022 at 14:56
1. Use common sense and the other names section.
2. Not serious.
3. It doesn’t matter.
4. No need to unlock to update this although if you do unlock you update everything.
5. Again, it was correct at the time. That’s fine.
January 11, 2022 at 17:20
So there is no need to change these things? No need to unlock for that?
I also forgot to say that I went to the US in 2019 as well, and I didn’t mark it on the form.
I went back to the site to see my ds260, where I entered my informations. it just says “complete” with the message that they have received the ds260, with my case number etc. but if I click on the ds260, it says I can edit it, but if I edit it, I have to send it back to the KCC and I’m afraid that it will change my application, my case number, etc.
Thank you

Hi, I hope not to bother you too much. My husband won the dv lottery 2019. Unfortunately it arrived in the worst moment and we had to refuse it. Of course we had tons of second thoughts and regrets but too late. We applied every year ever since. Did it ever happen in the history that someone who refused it won it again?! For the law of probabilities to win it twice in a lifetime would be almost impossible but I’m still hoping it.
January 11, 2022 at 14:57
Yes that has happened.
January 9, 2022 at 21:13
Hi Brit!
First of all, thank u so much for yours advices and recommendations about DV lottery.
I have a case number nearly by 500 of South America but when i was selected KCC assigned to me the consulate of Ciudad Juarez in Mexico due i’m living here.
In October 2021 they requiered to me the documents by email, i sent and i was waiting for the next step but in 9th december 2021 they changed the protocols. Recently, I have “At NVC” status in CEAC and I don’t see clear the schedule of my interview (my case number is avaible since november) because i know México isn’t candidate of the program and i have doubt if this affect my process or what should i do respect this.
Based on your experience. Could u help me to resolved my doubts?
Thanks in advance. Best wishes.

Nothing will happen until about April.
January 10, 2022 at 05:19
Hello Simon
Hope you’re doing well.
I submitted my DS-260 on July 2021, my case number is 2022AF11k (current in January), at that time of submission DS-260 I was in the middle of my studies as masters degree, I didn’t mention my education “attended schools” about my master’s degree but I mentioned on my occupation that I am student and I write down my university and the address of the university, now I graduated this month.
Do I have to unlock and mention that I have graduated, and mention the school Or it won’t cause any problem on my visa?
If I request to unlock does that can cause delay on my visa interview?
Thank you
January 11, 2022 at 15:03
You don’t have to unlock for that.
January 10, 2022 at 11:42
Hello Simon,
I am dv Winner planning to enter US in Few Days time. I am planning to go my relatives in New state not going to my interview time sponsor . Please advice me, Can I do so or not??
January 11, 2022 at 15:04
No problem.
January 10, 2022 at 12:39
I have a question regarding filling up the DS-260.
When we entered the lottery, my husband had selected « vocational school » but we think we should have selected « high school diploma ».
Do you think it is a problem if we switch for « high school diploma » in the DS 260? Could it cause disqualification if we answer differently than in the entry?
Do you think you’ll have the FAQ back any time soon?
Thank you for your time
January 11, 2022 at 15:16
No problem. Just make the DS260 accurate.
Working on the FAQ.
January 10, 2022 at 20:21

Hello Sir,
I hope you are great!
Today I just got my first dose of Covid 19 vaccine and to get the second dose I need to wait at least 50 days. So my question is that if I receive interview within these days what should I do?
My second question is that in the COVID certificate they have written my age 22 while it is 21 apart from this my age is Same in all the other documents. And the reason is that while booking the vaccine on the date the only wanted me to write the date which is 10/10/2000 but to book I had to only write 2000 that’s why it is considered 22? Will this be problematic?
Can you give some solution for both inquiries?
Thank you so much!
January 11, 2022 at 15:19
Neither thing will be a problem.

Hi simon
I’m DV22 winner AF40xxx, i have submitted my DS260 on May 25 and civil documents on Aug 16. When i ask KCC about my case status they send me the following. But i don’t get their point. Could you explain for me sir? Thanks
Thank you for your inquiry.
“”Records indicate you have submitted a complete and valid DS-260 application for each family member, and you have provided all required documentation to the Kentucky Consular Center. Interviews are scheduled numerically based on case numbers that have completed processing. Please refer to the visa bulletin at https://travel.state.gov to locate the current numbers being processed. This bulletin is updated after the 15th day of each month. Once an interview date has been scheduled, you will receive notification via email to check dvprogram.state.gov.””

You are “ready for scheduling”. If your number is current, and your embassy has capacity you will get scheduled in some weeks.

Hi Simon,
Hope you are doing well.
Question what is your guestimate? Do you expect new travel restrictions (other than the one in place) in light of the omicron surge in Europe or not? Many thanks for your take. I am aware that nobody really knows, but you might be following these things more than I should;-) Thanks!

I don’t have any predictions for that. It’s very volatile.

Hi Brit I hope you are in a good health,
I am in big dilemma I have had an interview in January and my number(AS202265##). became current in January’s visa bulletin. so my interview was set before my number become current.

They are correct – your number is not current for January, it will be current in February. You misunderstand how the VB works. So – be thankful that they already scheduled you to February.

Hello dear Brit.
My family and I moved to Iran after Kabul fall. We updated our DS-260s with new addresses. Recently KCC changed our interview location from Kabul to Islamabad and in the confirmation email they asked to unlock our DS-260s to update addresses. But we are not moving to Islamabad until having an interview set so I think we do not need to unlock/update DS-260s. What do you think?

That’s fine.

hello mr simon
Thank you very much for what you are doing.
cnAF52xx the kcc replied to me again today that my ds is being processed, I submitted on July 17th, please what happens with the ds sent after the month of May? Would I have a chance to have a case processed? I’m worried, sorry, the dv is stressful

Then all you can do for now is wait.

I am from Ethiopia, I changed my interview to Tunisia a while ago, and I arrived in Tunisia a week ago, and I received the interview letter now. I was not able to write my address in Tunisia, and for the first time I go to Tunisia.. Will this lead to rejection or can I change it on the day of the interview

At interview is fine.

I am the winner of the American lottery for the year 2022, but I have a health problem. In 2019, I underwent a chest operation due to pulmonary tuberculosis and took treatment for 6 months. I am currently infected with HIV. Will I be eliminated?
January 11, 2022 at 22:58
HIV is not a disqualifier, but your TB must be fully clear to be approved.

Hi Britsimon.
So the Embassy in Fiji just closed on Monday due to increase in Covid Cases. That left me and dozens other who were scheduled to be interviewed this week hanging ( me specifically today at 10).
I have emailed the Embassy asking them what is going to happen to my interview but they are yet to reply.
I want to know your thought about transferring case. Suppose I were to transfer my case to another region, prefferably London. Is it ok or is it risky? Considering I am from the Oceania region. I need your advise please .

I have no suggestions, because the situation could easily get worse in some other country too causing travel restrictions.

Hi Mr Simon,
2022EU10766 current February. Submitted 260 form only in June. Processing at NVC. Never rec’d email from KCC if the 260 form is accepted. My question is do they process all applicants at some point or would they sometimes not process some applicants and you would remain at NVC forever? Embassy Ankara. It’s also frustrating that we have to share the interview spots with Asian applicants at 50/50. So we only have half the slots open for applicants that are Turkish causing further wait times for interview spots.
Thanks!

This year isn’t normal. It may take some lawsuits to get things moving. The idea that an embassy should only see Turkish cases is, frankly, disturbing.
