Hi Simon,I am writing to you in regards of the DV2023. I have been selected for the DV2023 and have submitted my DS260 on the 12th may. I am currently living in France for my studies. However, I have gotten the opportunity to move to another city in France where the American Embassy is and where my interview is supposed to take place.
My questions are :
Do I need to unlock my DS260 to change the address once I get a new address ? I still havent moved, my move is scheduled ,however, for before the end of year.
If no change is done to my DS260, will I need to inform the American Embassy about this move ?
September 5, 2022 at 21:21
No need to update the address. The interview will still be in Paris.

Hi Brit, I have a question regarding the police certificate. I have obtained a police certificate but it does not contain the passport number. It contains the national identity card number only. However, in my passport, the national ID card number is mentioned on the bio page. The name and the address on the passport and the police cert are a 100% match.
There is an option to request the police to mention the name on the passport when there is a difference between the passport and the nation ID with an affidavit but I am not sure whether they will mention the passport number on the report even with that method. Do you think the one I got is sufficient or do I need to look out for a way to get the passport number on the report?
September 19, 2022 at 07:21
Hi Brit, Just found out that this is the same for everyone in my country. Police report has only the nation ID card number on it and not the passport. So this shouldn’t be a problem only for me. Please ignore this question.
September 24, 2022 at 18:34
Cool
September 24, 2022 at 15:13
I don’t know procedures or requirements in individual countries – so use your own judgement.
September 6, 2022 at 00:50
Hi Brit Please when is the last day to fill and submit DS260 for DV2023AF00043***
September 6, 2022 at 01:56
There is no precise “last day” – but don’t leave it later than February or March.
September 9, 2022 at 11:21

Hi Brit, I have played as married and now I am divorced. Just noticed that there is an issue with the legal name of my ex-wife. Her Birth certificate had only three names under her name but she has been using her fathers two family names also added to that all along in all her other legal documents. So now, in my marriage cert and my kids birth certificate and divorce certificate, her all five names are there and they tally with my DS but her birth cert has 3 names only (excluding her fathers two family names). I realized that her birth cert is not a required doc for my interview since we are divorced and she is not migrating. All other required docs for my interview where her name applies (Marriage cert, kids birth cert and the divorce cert, DS260) are in order (Five names). I am wondering whether this name difference could come up at any point and become a problem for me? Option of asking her to change her birth cert is certainly out for obvious reasons 🙂 Please advise what should be done for this issue.
September 24, 2022 at 18:35
I think you are worrying over nothing. Relax.
September 10, 2022 at 10:25
I am Dv23 winner my case number is AF16200 8am from Egypt when do you expect I will have my interview
September 10, 2022 at 22:47
It will be several months from now.
September 6, 2022 at 02:23
Hi Britsimon,
Firstly thank you so much for your service. I hv a question when applying for DV lottery does the name on birth certificate n name as appeared on the passport should be identical? There’s a difference in my husbands details.
Name as per birth certificate : Adam Brown CERT
Name on passport : Cert Adam
(middle name not indicated)
(fictious names to safeguard privacy)
Much appreciate your advice.
September 6, 2022 at 14:37
It seems like his country may have a lastname, firstname format. It should be understood by the CO.

Hi Simon

Hey Brit ! My mom was DV winner and we came here in USA about a few days ago. I actually have a important work to do over there in my country and i need to return before this sept but its not even a month of comming here. We came early here because the last date of visa was in this Sept. So is it possible to return my country again without having the green card ? And if I can return Should I require Visa to return over there or I can just do my tickets ?
September 6, 2022 at 14:41
You can leave the USA immediately. The visa you got from the embassy has been endorsed and can serve as your evidence of status until you get the plastic greencard. Do whatever you want about tickets.
September 6, 2022 at 10:21
Hey Simon,
Visa issued August 20, 2022. and medical was August 2, 2022. Do i have to enter the US before September 30? or am i fine until Feb. 2, 2023?
Thanks!
September 6, 2022 at 14:42
You are fine until the expiry date printed on the visa (which will be about Feb 2)
September 6, 2022 at 13:27
Hi Brit, hope you are doing well
I m dv winner 2023. I m from Nepal and currently studying in Australia in student visa. However, in my case number the region is OC. I m nepali citizen and in my case number it should be AS right?and my foreign state charge-ability should be Kathmandu, Nepal? My foreign state charge-ability is Sydney, Australia. Will this cause the problem during interview? Will they reject during interview? I do not know how my foreign state charge-ability is sydney. As i m nepali citizen, how foreign state charge-ability is different? Please give your information in my case
September 6, 2022 at 14:44
Yes you made a mistake when you entered and unless you were married to someone from Australia, then you are certain to be disqualified at the interview – so you should not even waste the money by proceeding.
September 6, 2022 at 13:47
Hej Brit,
I have unlocked my DS 260 2023AS000033XX post STK/Sweden. I want to delay my interview so Is it ok if I resubmit on February 2023? When can be approx. I will be interview?
September 6, 2022 at 14:46
Whether the unlock stops your interview being scheduled depends on how far they go processing your case. If it was fully processed they might schedule you anyway. Delaying submission would have been a better method. As to when you will interview – well now you have to wait and see what they do.
September 7, 2022 at 16:59
Hello Brit,
I have got email that they have unlocked my DS 260 and ask me to make changes and resubmit as soon. It means, can I submit derivatives now and principal applicant around end of February 2023? When can be the interview? As I mentioned, I need to delay my interview because my family have to comeback here after staying 4 weeks in US then again they will move permanently 2nd time after 11-12 months staying outside US?
September 7, 2022 at 18:50
I already answered, I cannot guess when you will be scheduled.
September 6, 2022 at 14:49
Hey Simon, I just got scheduled for an interview end of next month but the hospital needed for my medical says they have no appointments available until December. Have you encountered this issue before? What does one normally do? Many thanks!
September 6, 2022 at 15:02
Does the embassy have more than one panel physician? If so, try another and make sure you are following the instructions exactly and that the physician knows you have an interview. If there is no earlier appointment, take what they offer, hope for a cancellation, and attend the interview before the medical if needed.
September 6, 2022 at 15:03
They do have two more physicians but in another two cities further away. I guess we’ll just have to travel to another one then if they have availabilities. Thanks!
September 6, 2022 at 16:20
Good luck!
September 6, 2022 at 14:58
Hi Brit,
Thank you for answering my question the other day. I got one more which might be a little complicated to answer.
2023EU35***. I left US in 2009 with overstayed status (F1 expired 2007). I’m aware of 10 years ban to enter US. I tried to enter US (travel purpose) in 2010 and was denied entry at POE due to my overstayed status from 11 years ago. Also at the POE I’ve been told that my ESTA is canceled and in order to enter US, I will need apply for immigrant or non-immigrant visa at the embassy. On Ds260 there are two similar questions “have you ever stayed longer then your visa?” and another question is ” Have you stayed longer then your visa within last 10 years?”
Do you thick that this whole thong from almost 14 years ago will hurt my case?
That applies for both me and my wife (Dv1 and Dv2)
September 6, 2022 at 16:22
Answer the questions completely honestly – the 10 year ban means you have served your “punishment”. You should not have further problems for that.
September 6, 2022 at 16:23
Hi Simon,
Thank you for answering my questions the other day. Also, thank you for making those Q&A Live videos on YouTube! I am going to unlock my DS-260 to let them know that I am a dual citizen now, and wonder if I maybe need to update the following as well. The below questions may sound silly but I am worried about my application. Please help.
1. Do you maybe know if we need to indicate whether a course of study was “Academic” or “Vocational” when adding info about Middle School? Or is that for High School only?
2. My high school diploma title is translated as Certificate of Secondary (Complete) General Education. Do I need to maybe ask a translator to translate it like “High School Diploma” to make the name more compatible with certificates from US schools? And then update the name of the certificate on my DS-260. Does it even matter?
3. Same for my Middle School certificate. It’s called Certificate of Basic General Secondary Education in my country. I know that education systems are different in different countries and, I believe, the period when kids study from age 11-12 to 15-16 is called Middle School in USA. Do I need to unlock my DS-260 and update it to Middle School Diploma?
4. My husband forgot to add his LinkedIn profile on his DS-260? Does it make sense to unlock his form and fix that too?
Thank you Sir!
September 6, 2022 at 18:51
1. Avoid the use of the word vocational. Academic is what they are interested in.
2. No need.
3. No need
4. Hmmm. Probably not needed.
September 6, 2022 at 19:40
Thank you so much for your quick reply Sir!
September 6, 2022 at 18:52
HI Simon,
We are the winer of DV 2023, EU19***.
I am filling I 134 form as a part of document preparation hoping my interview by early next year. I watched your Vedic on it and Need further assistance on the same.
1. If I am the Beneficiary and filling the form (part 2) for myself and sharing the form to my sponsor who can fill in his details(part 3) accurately then do I need to fill and sign part 4 and my sponsor also fill his details and sign part 5? Does both the section needs the signature?
Or
2. If Sponsor is gonna flll the entire form then
a. part 1 is “Another individual who is the beneficiary”
b. Beneficiary’s Financial Information – Part 2 (17Q) should have the beneficiary name with relationship as “Beneficiary”
c. Financial Information – Part 3(15Q) should have the sponsor name with relationship as “Self”
d. Part 4 should be skipped and part 5 should be signed by the sponsor?
3 If I am the beneficiary filling the entire form then
a. part 1 is “Myself as the beneficiary”
b. Beneficiary’s Financial Information – 17Q should have the beneficiary name with relationship as “Self”
c. Financial Information – Part 3(15Q) should have the sponsor name with relationship as “Sponsor”
d. Part 4 should be signed and part 5 should be signed by the skipped?
4. What are the other supporting financial documents needed? Like tax sheet, salary slips and so on……Request you to name or give the exact \
Documents I should get from the sponsor in addition to tis I 134 form.
Thanks in advance
Regards
Sharmi
September 7, 2022 at 01:12
As a DV case your sponsor should be filling in the form. So the reason things aren’t making sense is because you have it the wrong way around.
September 7, 2022 at 06:26
Thanks you Brit for your response,
So in that case my sponser filling the form, then I no need to sign in part 4?
As he fills the form he will have his signature in Part 5.
Is my understanding is correct?
And also What are the other supporting financial documents needed? Like tax sheets, salary slips, and so on……Request you to name or give the exact the
Documents list that I should get from the sponsor in addition to the I 134 form.
Thanks in advance
Regards
Sharmi
September 7, 2022 at 18:45
Please rewatch the video.
Supporting documents are 1040, W2, Payslips and Photo ID, but perhaps more if the sponsor includes more info – again – addressed in the video.
September 8, 2022 at 09:22
Thank You Brit!

Hello
I am sofia from Afghanistan I am a wenner of 2023 dv lottery. I sing the lottery with electronic ID. Now I can not take a passport.I never had passport. The process is so slow in Aghanistan. I do not fill ds260 from up to yet. What should I do is there any way to solve my problem
September 7, 2022 at 18:46
Complete the DS260 using “other ID” such as a government issued ID document.
September 7, 2022 at 10:49
Do i need to fill out I-134 form? I see a lot of comments and questions about it. I have only filled out ds260. Im a single male with around 10k USD in my bank account. My dv2023 number is 17xxx
September 7, 2022 at 18:46
Yes you should get an I-134 as a precaution.
September 7, 2022 at 21:57
Hi Brit, Hope you’re doing well. The new visa bulletin for October 2022 just dropped, is it normal that the numbers for DV2023 have not changed at all from the ones given for September 2022 ? I can’t tell if its a mistake from their part or if I am just being impatient with my checking and it does take time to process everything.
September 9, 2022 at 22:42
No it’s not normal. I created a video and article about it. I have expected the VB to change, but now they have sent some 2NLs for November, so it seems like it will stay as published.
September 7, 2022 at 22:53
Hi Simon,
Just wondering your take on the new November 2023 visa bulletin? Nothing has changed – the numbers are the same for October? do you know why that may be… is this a bad start?

September 8, 2022 at 00:57
Dear Simon,
Greetings,
I appreciate your consideration.
I would like to inform you that my wife won the DV 2023 (case number:14###), and we submitted the DS260 form in May.
Although we are Iranians, we are currently living in South Korea. Prior to winning the DV2023, we had been waiting for our Canada visa for 16 months. In August, our Canada visa was approved, and we are going to move to Canada.
I would like to ask you:
1. In accordance with our case number, Should we unlock the DS260 form and change the interview location?
2. Is it possible to move to Canada without changing the interview location? Because we can come back to S. Korea whenever we are invited for an interview. Our fear of unlocking and the resulting delay is the reason for this question.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely yours,
September 9, 2022 at 22:43
1. You should update the address , then tell KCC to update the location.
2. You have no reason to fear unlocking.
September 8, 2022 at 08:20
Hi Simon,
Hope all is well! A quick question regarding DS-260. My spouse (a derivative) renewed her passport last month and has since travelled to Oman with it. In this case, should I unlock the form and amend her passport details, or should we bring both old and new passport to the interview?
Many thanks.
September 9, 2022 at 22:48
I would unlock since the passport is being used, assuming the case number is not super low.
September 9, 2022 at 22:52
Thank you Simon!
The case number is 2023EU7***
September 8, 2022 at 09:03
Hi Simon
My father had a marriage annulment in 1996 and later remarried my mother. We contacted Switzerland and they do not have a record of the annulment anymore. If we do not find this cert. what can we do? Would a sworn affidavit work? What will the CO ask for if the certificate is ultimately unobtainable?
Thanks
September 9, 2022 at 22:50
Why is that a problem. He married her.
They annulled but can’t find the document, and remarried.
Seems like they were never “unmarried”
September 9, 2022 at 22:53
Sorry I phrased it wrong. My mom was his “second” marriage. So the annulment was to another women. We are struggling to find that certificate. My parents do have their marriage certificate though.
September 8, 2022 at 09:30
Hello Brit, I hope you’re doing great. I’m a DV 2023 winner with a cn AF 43K. I applied as a stateless person in my initial entry because I’m a refugee & didn’t have a passport by that time. My country of chargeability is Somalia
When I found out I got selected, I rushed & got a passport so that I can proceed with the process. I submitted my ds260 on 27 May with my passport details.
I’m currently residing in Uganda on a Refugee status. I will have my interview in Nairobi embassy next year ????. There’s isn’t any activity on my passport & the only reason as to why I got the passport is for the DV process & to travel with it to the US.
1. My first question is. Will I have any problem with my passport & the fact there isn’t any activity(Visas) on it. I hope they will understand my refugee status & that I can use my passport to travel with it to the US.
2. AF43K. How safe is my cn? I know you want to say that “I cannot predict that coz we don’t know the number of holes coz we don’t have the ceac data” I get that Simon.
But tell me something nice here man. Do you think my cn is safe & hopefully get an interview mid next year. I’m super excited about this journey of moving to America as this is a big opportunity for me & my family.
Thank you sir & I hope to hear from you soon.
September 9, 2022 at 22:52
1. No problem.
2. “something nice” – dogs are man’s best friend.
September 8, 2022 at 09:44
hello brit i have a curiosity i am dv 2021 winner i had the interview scheduled for 29 september 2021 but due to health problems i did not show up and i did not communicate that i would not go but knowing that the fiscal year ends on september 30 i thought that now all was lost. I have two questions: first, is there any possibility of resuming my case? and second: if life were to give me another opportunity, would I be denied a visa by virtue of not having presented myself? thanks for your time
September 9, 2022 at 22:52
1. No
2. No
September 8, 2022 at 11:29
Hi Simon, I hope that you are doing well. I have two questions for you that I hope you can answer.
1- My CN is 2023AF23000. I was on a J-1 visa in 2016 with a 2-year home requirement. Since then I spent 19 months in my home country – I can prove this with stamps on passport and flight tickets. By the time I would be scheduled for an interview (crossing fingers), the 24 months requirement would be fulfilled. My question is: are you familiar with how the 24 months total is calculated? More specifically: should I consider the stamped dates on my passport as the start and end dates when I calculate periods I spent at home? The only thing I can find online is the total is cumulative but no explanation how to calculate it.
2- I checked my DS-260 and realized that I put a wrong year for my PhD graduation. I put 2020 instead of 2022. Also, I did not include one year exchange program I spent at a US high school under education because there was no degree awarded. Should I unlock my DS to make these revisions?
3- I might move to New Zealand for a job. Should I change my interview embassy from Algiers, Algeria to Auckland, New Zealand? The reason I am asking is because you said in one of your youtube videos that embassies which are not familiar with foreign education backgrounds might cause us problems. P.S. I have a PhD degree from a New Zealand University, but a high school diploma from Algeria.
Thank you in advance for answering my questions
September 9, 2022 at 22:56
1. No
2. Yes
3. Yes
September 8, 2022 at 11:37
Hi Simon, does an alien number assigned to only approved cases? Someone received AP refusal with additional document to be sent to Nairobi embassy and was give a USCIS white paper with case number and alien number. Is it possible or it was a mistake.
September 9, 2022 at 22:56
It was probably an existing A number.
September 8, 2022 at 17:37
Hi Simon i m kinshasa my case number is 2023af9** i send my ds260 on may my question is I didn’t receive the 2nl what i do?
September 9, 2022 at 22:58
Just wait.
September 8, 2022 at 19:19
Hi Simon ,
Just was wondering is it normal that after interview, they return the photos for both the applicant and the drevitive? Do they make a scan of them? they kept my passport and our status is ready still after 8 days . They sent Ds5535 form to be filled by my spouse only . Kindly your response is highly appreciated. Thanks
September 9, 2022 at 22:58
No they usually keep the photos.
September 9, 2022 at 23:18
Any advice, should I send an email to the embassy? What is your thoughts on our case so far ?
September 8, 2022 at 21:19
Hello Simon I truly hope this message finds you well. I am Cameroonian and I am 19years old I got selected this year 2022/2023 . I have two questions. I would like to know if my parents can go under me as in can I add them to my application also i filed my ds-260 May 16th 2022 and my case number starts with AF39xxx. I haven’t gotten a reply yet from kcc
September 9, 2022 at 22:59
No you cannot take your parents.
September 9, 2022 at 02:00
Venera:
Good afternoon Simon. I am really your fanat, thank you very much for the information that you give about DV. Simon I’m due for an interview soon and I wanted to advice with you. I found 3 mistakes in ds260. 1). I did 4 unlocks. The first time I went to Egypt and foolishly did an unlock and entered that I was in Egypt. The second time, since my case is large, I went to X country for 1 day, made a temporary registration and unlock and changed the address and transferred the case to country X. Then the third time, since the term was over, I returned the case to my country Y. And finally for the fourth time, since my embassy did not invite high cases, I transferred the case back to country X. And now I have a permanent address of country X in ds260, although I did not live there and stayed only 1 day. Simon, please advise how to properly explain this situation to the officer and whether I need to do 5 unlocks and write to the embassy about this. Or I can on the day of the interview if the officer asks to provide him with an explanatory letter.
2) I noticed also, I made mistake in work experience. I was 9 month house wife. But as well as ds form asked about job I wrote that I worked at that time. Because I left from that position and after 9 months I returned to the same position.
3) In my ds form I wrote that my daughter lives with me. But in husband ds form – wrote NO. We wrote another address of city. Because my daughter lived from time to time in another school
Dear Simon thanks in advance for your advice. I will wait impatiently.????????????
September 9, 2022 at 23:18
1. No more unlocking! No need to worry about explanations – they will probably not ask anything about that.
2. Doesn’t matter.
3. Not a problem.
September 9, 2022 at 02:15
Hello Simon,
On my DS260 personal address, My previous address (1) is the travel history out of my country.
I wrote this way:
Present address: NOVEMBER 2015 to date.
Previous address ( 1 ): SEPTEMBER 2013 – NOVEMBER 2015
It suppose to be:
Present address: DECEMBER 2015 to date,
Previous address ( 1 ): SEPTEMBER 2013 – DECEMBER 2015,
Because my police clearance covers: September 2013 – December 2015.
Should i have to correct the date of present and previous address, the same month with my police ckearance?
My case is AF20300, Should if i have to unlock and correct it to DECEMBER 2015?
September 9, 2022 at 23:18
No need.
September 10, 2022 at 07:48
Thanks a lot Mr. Simon, Everytime i see and listen your solusions on every social media you use, it gives me rest!
You are my cooler!
September 10, 2022 at 22:46
That’s great!!
September 9, 2022 at 17:08
Hi Simon,
I ‘ve been listening to ur last video, and you are saying that to avoid AP after interview, be full transparent in DS260. However, DS260 asks only for work experience in the past 10 years only and visited countries for past 5 years only.
1. Do I have to elaborate more or just keep committed to the interval they asked? this won’t harm the transparency? I’m asking cause I’m from Syria and working for over t0 years in UAE. so it is all middle east which might be a special concern for them.
2. If I brought a document from Syria to US embassy in AbuDhabi and it follow the reciprocity page. Does it need to hold any extra attestation. or I present the document as I present in the local embassy.
Best Regards,
Ridwan
September 9, 2022 at 23:21
1. No need to go beyond what they asked.
2. The embassy instructions will mention it if attestation is required.
September 10, 2022 at 01:25
Hi Simon, what do you think the chances are that Suva will continue to allow selectees from other locations in the Oceania region to transfer there for DV2023 interviews? I’m guessing it was only to help clear the backlog in DV2022 and they may cease this? Would be awesome if they continue. Secondly I know you don’t like making predictions but i’m DV2023OC21XX do you think I have a reasonable chance of getting an interview or will I need luck on my side with a case number that high?
September 10, 2022 at 05:12
I suspect Sydney will be taking all their own interviews now.
It is too early to comment on numbers.
September 10, 2022 at 06:54
Is there any hope for people from dv 2021 who were not DQ and didn’t join any lawsuits?
September 10, 2022 at 22:46
Except for a number of countries listed in the Rai lawsuit, no.

Dear Simon,
have Tbilisi and Erevan worked good for DV22? Thank you
September 10, 2022 at 22:50
Yes
September 11, 2022 at 08:34
Hi Brit, I am a DV23 winner, do I need to unlock my DS 260 if there is a spelling difference in my high school name in the DS260 from the name in the certificate? Also, the place of birth in my birth certificate indicates the hospital address, and in my passport my home address, both are in the same city, would this be a problem?
Thanks,
September 12, 2022 at 03:32
No need to unlock, no problem.
September 11, 2022 at 13:13
Hello Brit, again

September 11, 2022 at 14:04
Hi Simon, Hope you are doing well.
I had my DV interview today , interview went good. But my CO didn’t confirm if our visa is approved or denied.
After the interview CO she said everything looks good to me but our system is down from morning, if anything is there you will get a call in 2-3days.
They didn’t give us any acceptance paper or anything.
What does it means? Will we get our visa ?
September 12, 2022 at 03:31
You have to wait and see.
September 11, 2022 at 15:24
Dear Simon,
First of let me apologize for any mistakes from me!
We are extremely disappointed about the result unfair judgments from the U.S. Phnom Penh Embassy.
My wife is a principal applicant for DV 2022 winner. I am writing to you to everyone commending on my case that had been denied on August 23, 2022 (the consular officer called us to take denied letter on August 29, 2022).
It’s unbelievable and unreasonable that we are 100% qualified for all the DV requirements but in the final result, we are extremely disappointed with the consular officer to deny us. It is unfair about this work for our spouse who got 100% real legal married (Marriage Certificate No.24 dated June 03, 2020) that the consular officer denied us under section 212(a)(6)(c)(1) for Fraud and/or misrepresentation
They had put us on AP around 2months, so they should have a group official directly visit our home or absorb other real investigation activities from our real communication or living situations and so on. Don’t just try to ask so many questionair that let us confused to answer. We are always happy to offer whatever they may need the other support documents or evidence ( joined bank statement, house joined certificate, a lot of family trip of our spouses photos and so on) to guarantee that we are truly 100% legal spouses. we also have witnesses to the validity legal of our spouses too. Although we try requested to the consular officer to submit it but they still rejected to accept it all the time.
Since the first day (June 16, 2022) interviewed, Why the consular officer didn’t request any evidence or documents from us to convince him of satisfaction? Instead, He just issued refused letter 221(g) that ticked in section 11 (No other information is needed at this time. We must conduct an administrative review of your case and so on.)
I would like to inform you know the reason that they might be denied us due to he thinks we are not true spouses because of my traditional culture marriage (October 26, 2020) before registration of our marriage certificate on June 03, 2020. We plan married on May 1, 2020 (have a wedding invitation) but due to COVID’s pandemic, Cambodia’s government didn’t allowed peoples to celebrate the wedding ceremony (have announcement letter) since February 2020 that why we must cancel our plan to take other dates. In this case, we celebrated a small family groups for traditional cultural ceremony ( have photos) before become celebration a bigger of the traditional culture marriage ceremony in October 26, 2020 again.
Even though my wife had been trying to explain to him, he still issued refused 221g letter and kept us on hold for around 2 months.
Later on August 12, 2022. We got an appointment call. On this day, He just let the Khmer officer only to asked about my wife’s presentation first (closed room) by asking stricken many discretion questions specially relating to the generally communicating and living situations so on. He was spending around 1.30hrs for my wife then me around 30mins. During the presentation, we used to informed him that some information couldn’t very well to remember (Before the presentation day, myself couldn’t sleep almost full night because I needed to take care of my mum who had serious health problems at the hospital) but he still forced us by prediction answers.
Finally, the cambodian’s officer informed us to return home and waiting to hear the results next time. Until August 29, 2022, we got a call for an appointment again to back the U.S Phnom Penh embassy at 13:00. The final day, we were go with confidence that we will have a visa stamped but everything is wrong. They kept us very long waiting (they skipped over my waiting number line to other and kept us after the last one waiting lists application.) untill around 15:20 then called us to take denied result. This is also unfair too.
I think their judgment is unfair for us due to misrepresentation count us as fraud. We believed no person can not remember all what they said or done perfectly but any official’s letter or document should be a better judgment tools. We think that all they done with us might be try how to make our fault or confused answered then denied our visa later.
We never think or have expert experienced to lie or cheat them, but the result is unfair for our honest couple.
This is a very first time for our life that we got chance but the final we extremely loss our hope.
Did everyone know? For myself I used to apply DV around 10years ago but never selected and my wife apply since the year of 2018 then she just selected for DV2022. Otherway, We also never apply other visa type in US embassy too. It is a very first time for us..
We try wish to living at United States because of we think this country is freedom with lawful. We thought this great country have a well fair to everyone but all what we just got recently experienced is unfair for us. Might be other who have expert in cheatting might be better then us.
Could you kindly advise What should we to do next? Should we have any other chance to apply any visa category, specifically DV2024 next?
Thanks!
September 12, 2022 at 03:30
We discussed this in the channel – as I mentioned there is nothing you can do – they did not deny you without taking due care.
September 13, 2022 at 15:27
Very thank Simon,
thus, can we apply for next dv2024 ? And does it mean for case denied under section 212(a)(6)(c)(1): Fraud and/or misrepresentation
Please kindly advise about this. what should we will do if we have opportunity to selected for dv2024 again then avoid to deny it again?
Again thanks for all advising always!
September 24, 2022 at 15:22
You are not barred as far as I know – so yes you can enter DV2024. Your continued relationship will make the refusal less likely.
September 11, 2022 at 15:58
Hello Brit,
1) I am DV2023EU14K and I also got selected for the Entry Express Canada this year(I did both as winning the DV lottery is almost mission impossible). Can I do both permanent residency (I would like to secure Canada as a 2nd option in case I don’t make it to the green card) or will it jeopardize my chance to get the green card.
2) Police certificate: I lived in China for 10 months (2010-2011). I was 21 years old. The DV instructions stated that police certificate is required from any previous country or countries of residence if residing there for more than 12 months and was 16 years or older at that time » . .
But in the travel state website in general instructions it is said a police certificate is required for each applicant aged 16 years and over, including France or Portugal and/or any country where an applicant has lived for more than six months after the age of 16.
Shall I follow the 12 months rules given in the DV webpage – Indeed it is really difficult to get a police certificate from China (in the city where I lived I have to travel there and travels are restricted in China since the begining of Covid).
September 12, 2022 at 03:29
1. No connection between the two things.
2. Follow DV rules but read the reciprocity page!
September 12, 2022 at 17:35
Hi Marie,
Regarding your second question – I also lived in China before and managed to get my police certificates from the UK by appointing a solicitor over there to obtain the documents on my behalf. Give a shout if you need any help with this.
September 11, 2022 at 17:14
Hi Simon, DV2023 winner case number AS1XXX and entered US on 18/08/2022 with F1 visa (4years). My questions are,
1- Is it ok to start AOS in the month of January 2023. Will I have enough time?
2-Do you know of any DV AOS cases which has filed on time but that has not timely processed prior 30 Sept?
3-Do you recommend to consult a lawyer? ( someone from current DVlitidations)
4-I have been following up, Some1smom forum, but it would be appreciated if you can do a video on how to pay KCC fees, do medical and fill 1-485 and in case if the follow up is required with FO, how do we do it.
Thank you
September 12, 2022 at 03:27
1. Yes
2. Not a problem for you.
3. Not unless you have something odd about your case. Use Sm1smom
4. Nope. Follow Mom.
September 11, 2022 at 21:21
Hey Simon,
Thank you so much for your great work.
My husband won DV 2023 lottery, AF16XXX. We have already submitted out DS260s. However, I need to travel to the US for work (in November and March next year) and I need to renew my G4 visa. I am employed by an international organization with HQ in the US, hence the G4 visa. While applying for the G4 visa (form DS160), there is a question “Has someone ever submitted an immigration petition on your behalf?”.
1. Should I answer “yes” since I have submitted the DS260 form? What are the repercussions? What if I answered no, will it harm me in future?
2. I have a valid B1/B2 visa. Should I just travel on that? Is there a chance that I will be asked why I travelled to the US in the recent past. If I say for work, will they ask why on the B1/B2 and not G4.
Thanks
September 12, 2022 at 03:26
1. You must answer yes.
2. You need to decide that for yourself.
September 12, 2022 at 10:58
Hi Brit, please my friend wanted to know when he’s getting his 2NL. His case number is 2023AF45,XXX
Thanks
September 24, 2022 at 15:06
It won’t be until well in to 2023.
September 12, 2022 at 11:09
Hello Brit! DV2021 selectee here. This article is the last I read about the lawsuit: https://britsimonsays.com/judge-mehta-has-released-a-dv2021-reservation-order/. Is there any data about how many of the reserved visas were actually issued?
Thanks in advance for your time!
September 24, 2022 at 15:07
None of the reserved visas were issued because the government appealed the decision. That appeal has been heard and now we will wait for the decision, widely expected to be late this year or early next year.
September 12, 2022 at 12:03
Dear Brit Simon?
I have completed my interview and issued visa, in DS260 and enterview I have written that I am going to california but now my mind is changed and want to go virginia, Is this any problem that if I go to virginia?
September 24, 2022 at 15:07
No
September 12, 2022 at 13:55
Hi Brit,
Good Day!
I am the derivative of DV 2023, EU19*** winner. I have a question please assist.
I have not traveled so far outside my current residence for last 10 years. I have filled in my DS 260 by May 22nd, 2022 with no travel history.
I work as a Technical Manager with a reputed IT company here in India.
1. So if I get a chance to travel the UK for my project in few months( alone or with family which includes Principle applicant), say Jan 2023 then is there any issue with this DV processing
2. Or In order not to make the DV process complicated for principal applicant, do u advise traveling alone and having the principal applicant stay here in India till we get the result of our DV 2023 interview?
2. As I am expecting DV interview by March and host is here in Mumbai, in that case, at that time can I travel from UK to india to attend the interview without changing the host or can I unlock my DS 260 for location change to UK and attend the interview with the family there? Please advice
3. If I get my UK by Jan and planning for my travel, then do I need to unlock my DS 260 to update my travel history or can I update the same to the CO at the time of the interview?
Ur inputs will surely help me to decide on my future plans
Thanks in advance,
September 24, 2022 at 15:12
1. No
2. Either way is OK although you must be able to interview together.
2a – see above
3. No need to unlock to update travel history, but if you unlock for some other reason, update the history.

Hope you are fine!
September 24, 2022 at 15:15
You find a home, a job and so on. You start your life in the USA! The SSN would normally arrive within 2 to 3 weeks. The GC takes longer.
September 12, 2022 at 17:03

September 24, 2022 at 15:15
DV2022 is almost over.
September 12, 2022 at 19:06
Hi Simon, must all documents be translated to English exclusively if they are not in English or official language of the country where the embassy is located?
Example: interview in Frankfurt for a Portuguese citizen. Can the police certificate be translated from Portuguese to German or must it be English only?
Thanks!
September 20, 2022 at 17:24
**answered already via Twitter – thanks Simon!!
September 24, 2022 at 15:16
I think I answered you on this – but German or English would be acceptable in that scenario, with English being more useful in the future.
September 12, 2022 at 20:42
Dear Simon,
1. With our immigrant visas already issued, can my family and I travel for the first time to the States from the airport of a neighbouring country that has a non-visa agreement with ours and cheaper flights to the USA? Or is it strictly required to arrange the initial departure from your home country?
2. Is it realistic to land a US job online, prior to leaving for the USA, if I tell my potential US employers that I’m technically a US permanent resident? Does my immigrant visa give me that right before entering the country? Or is there documentation I still lack before I can apply for US jobs?
3. Hypothetically – with the immigrant visa already in my passport, do the US authorities defend my rights as those of a US permanent resident in any manner, should the situation in my country suddenly change and borders close? Will the US authorities claim me as their permanent resident who’s got the right to leave his home country regardless of the country’s unforeseen circumstances? (e.g. say, I’ve a got a flight ticket, then a war breaks out before the day of my flight, and the borders get closed for all the citizens of the country – does my immigrant visa give me any exclusive privileges to leave the country in that context?)
Best regards.
September 24, 2022 at 15:18
1. They don’t care where you arrive from.
2. It’s not realistic unless you have extremely niche skills.
3. No. Until you activate your status by entering the USA you are not a USA problem.
September 30, 2022 at 18:08
2. Honestly, I don’t get this. How else am I supposed to land a job in the USA? It’s all done via the internet these days. What’s the difference between applying for jobs online before I arrive and after I’ve arrived? Isn’t it wiser to find a job before arriving, anyway? How would I risk taking my family to the States without securing a US job prior to our arrival? Or am I misunderstanding something here?
October 2, 2022 at 14:37
You can look for a job, but a US employer won’t know what a DV lottery visa is, they won’t take you seriously and unless you have very specialized skills they can probably hire someone without the doubts that you bring.
But there is no rule that says you can’t look and apply, I just think you’ll find it frustrating.
October 3, 2022 at 14:43
https://www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/temporary-i-551-stamps-and-mrivs says that “employers should treat the MRIV as an acceptable List A document valid for 1 year from the date of admission”. I thought this meant my immigrant visa was technically a 1-year green card, so, still residing in my home country, I’ve been applying to US jobs telling employers I’m a US permanent resident, without going into details (I give them my US mailing address, where I’m going to initially stay when I arrive). I just reckoned if any employer responded and offered me a position, I’d quickly move to the States to start the job with my MRIV for a couple of months until I’d have the official green card.
On a side note, what’s the realistic scenario you’d suggest? Arriving, receiving the green card in 2-3 months’ time, then applying for jobs?
October 5, 2022 at 14:28
First – you left out the “Upon endorsement” words. That means the visa serves as a temporary GC once you have entered the USA. You are not an LPR until you have activated – so you should not be telling employers that.
I am not saying you need to wait until you receive the plastic greencard, you can start applying for jobs when you enter the USA – but applying before probably won’t be as effective (or you will need to lie, which is not a great way to start n employment relationship). BUT at the end of the day, there is not a rule about it – you can do what you want, I am only telling you what works from my experience, your experience could be different and it varies vastly based on the type of work you do.
September 13, 2022 at 12:54
Hi Simon, if i pay the USCIS $220 fee now, is it possible my green cards gets sent to the address before i arrive in the USA (Mid January).
September 24, 2022 at 15:19
No. They only start producing the card when you have paid AND entered.
