Hi Simon,
Do you know if I will need a work permit after entering to USA or only with the diversity visa endorsement is enough proof that I am entitle to work in USA.
I have been told by a recruitment agency that almost all good companies will request the plastic green card and not the endorsement seal on my passport.
My concern is, will I be able to find a job immediately I receive the social security number or I need to wait 3 to 6 month without working.
Thanks.
Lisbeth
February 9, 2017 at 14:21
You don’t need a work permit. The recruiter is an idiot. You can start work almost immediately (the SSN takes 2 to 3 weeks to arrive).
February 9, 2017 at 14:28
Thanks Simon,
Regarding the SSN, a friend told me that the number is provided immediately but the card will take 2-3 weeks. Is that right?
Thanks.
February 9, 2017 at 15:03
Sort of. It takes at least a week to get the number (before the card).
February 9, 2017 at 16:13
Thanks Simon. God Bless you!

Log back in to your form. If there is a security error it is because you made a mistake with login details.
February 9, 2017 at 16:05
hello simon,how are you doing
please i have a corcern that is worrying, our interview is on wednesday (me and my wife i,e dv winner) ,we have already crossed to our neighbouring country for interview but we just realised that my wife(principle applicant) has amistake in her birth certicate, one letter was miswritten in her name ,also one letter was add in her dad;s name on the same document.my question are
1.incase we fail to rectify this before interview date, should we tell embasyy abt the mistake or not i,e we let them untill they ask?
2. if we say we forgot it home,is it automatic that we are put on A.p ?, (then we go fix it)
3. can this lead to disqualification i,e not handing it in or handing in with mistakes?
thanx
February 9, 2017 at 16:56

February 9, 2017 at 19:28
Hi brit
I’m a selected dv 2017 from Egypt i filed my ds260 end of May and unlocked on October .
my number is 203xx according to the March bulletin my case should be current in April
My question is that
1-do u think my case will be current on April or will be delayed because of the unlock
2-how can I check my interview date?
3-what list of documents I should prepare for the interview
Thanks
February 9, 2017 at 20:34
1. Probably will be in April batch.
2. You will be informed in due course.
3. https://britsimonsays.com/prepare-dv-lottery-interview-2/
February 9, 2017 at 21:48
Hi Brit Pls I submitted my dv260 on October but still I have not receive my interview date. I want to ask how many months does it take before the date will come. Thanks
February 9, 2017 at 22:35
If your number is already current, you might get a 2NL in the next 2 weeks for an April interview.
February 9, 2017 at 23:32
Hi Simon I think my number is current as it ends in 10 and the visa bulletin is at 10 for the Bahamas. I assume I will get 2nl soon. However my question is I cannot locate diplomas from high school nor the one from my vocational college as it’s been over 35 years and they’ve been misplaced in my moving. Would a letter or transcripts from both school suffice if they are notarized?
February 9, 2017 at 23:56
When the number says 10, that means 9 and under are current. 10 is not.
Get whatever official proof you can get of your education.
February 10, 2017 at 03:30
hi simon sir
im planning travel to US mid march
i pay USCI fee after travel or before travel.
how affect GC.
February 10, 2017 at 04:32
Normally you pay before entering. You can pay after but it slows down the GC delivery
February 10, 2017 at 04:30
Hello simon
My cAse number is AS 4949 from nepal .
Shall i hope for my number going current next month .
February 10, 2017 at 04:34
You can hope for anything you want…
As for the going current – wait and see.
February 10, 2017 at 05:00
HI Simon, I am really not sure which option to choose in I-485 application: Part 2 – Application type. So if I won a DV lottery is it
A. An immigrant petition giving me a immediately avaailable immigrant visa number that has been approved……
or
H. Other basis of eligibility.
Please advise
February 10, 2017 at 06:26
H. DV lottery and your case number
February 10, 2017 at 05:05
Another question which I missed: since Feb 9th I am on 2 months grace period, and the latest I-20 expiration date is Feb 9th, grace period ends Apr 9th. Do you know which expiration date for “Current USCIS Status” is in my case: feb 9 or apr 9?
February 10, 2017 at 06:27
You MUST NOT be out of status when you file.
February 10, 2017 at 20:55
Thanks for your response, that really helps. I will definitely get a new I20 and enroll for another 3 month. If I enroll my I20 status will end May 13th, and I’m going to send my package very soon, as soon as I get new I20. During my 3 month status I will do bio, and I will prob receive interview letter prior to end of status on May 13th. But if the interview process is delayed for some reason, and on May 13th my grace period will begin, do i need to extend my status or I am OK being on grace period while waiting for my interview letter?
February 10, 2017 at 05:50
Hi Simon,
I want to ask you did purposed RAISE ACT affect dv 2017???. I am from Nepal and my CN AS59xx, must probably it will be current in April..does this proposed act affect it???
February 10, 2017 at 06:25
No
February 12, 2017 at 07:54
But it is said that proposed bill is intended to eliminate diversity lottery program???
February 12, 2017 at 14:24
Yes I know, but it is a PROPOSED bill and cannot affect DV2017 anyway.
February 10, 2017 at 07:02
Hi Simon
Just read the VB for April. My number is AF41xxx. Do you assume ill be scheduled for May or June?
2. What is the last month of interviews?
3. If I get the visa, By which month do I need to leave?
Thanks
Radi
February 10, 2017 at 15:02
1. I don’t know.
2. September
3. Within 6 months after the medical.
February 10, 2017 at 07:59
Hello. How can I find older questions and answers ? I sent a question about your paypal account for donation yesterday February 9th, but this morning the file has been cleaned up, and only the most recent questions and answers are available. I would very much donate as a appreciation for all your help througout this process, but I have problems transferring to you. Thanks
PS: I know it is for a treehouse, but if there is leftover, please enjoy a good steak !
February 10, 2017 at 11:50
Hello again. Found the ‘older comments’. I must be blind. Anyway, I tried to donate again, but for some reason my card is rejected. Will check and find a way. I will not forget. I will post a summary of my interview experience in Moscow embassy shortly.

February 10, 2017 at 08:14
Hi Simon
As you know, Appeals court rules 3 to 0 against Trump on travel ban.
This means EO not run until 28 February or foreve?
2) If U.S. government propound case to supreme Court what’s happen for us in 7 nationalities?
Good luck man
February 10, 2017 at 14:58
It means the ban is suspended for now. The government can appeal, but that will take time. I can’t guess what will happen next.
February 10, 2017 at 09:35
Hello Dear Simon, how you doing? we are really greatful to have you in this blog. every time I use internet my first task is opening your blog. I can say I’m addicted because the reason is I always get new things every time. so thank you so much & may GOD give long life for you & your family.
Simon I have one Q to ask you.
I was employeed in one organization & after working 2 yrs changed to another. my former org gave me the right work experience. the problem is with the current org. they wrote the work experience from the time we took entrance exam. but after entrance exam I stayed in my former org for about 2 to 3 weeks waiting for a result & until I finish my clearance. the problem is the current org should write the letter from the time I cleared. they just wrote it from the time of our entrance exam. so, it is showing as I worked in two org for some days. I asked my current org for correction & agreed since the problem was for all employees who hired at that time. they already understand the problem was from the one who was in position at that time. Then I filled my ds260 the correct one believing they will correct it. I just asked for correction 3 months ago but the problem is the HR manager left for duty out of country for 3 months & didn’t start his work yet. my interview is scheduled for the beginning of march & heard he may not reach untill 2 weeks. so what do you think if I show the one in hand? Actually I have high school transcript, BSc degree & a letter that describes as I finished my MSc programme. if I qualify with my education do you think they may concern about the work exprience? Thanks again!
February 10, 2017 at 14:56
They won’t be concerned about the work experience.
February 10, 2017 at 09:47
Hi Simon
My national identity card has the wrong year of birth which is 1993 and the write year is 1992 and in this case here in uganda the law does not allow us to change the year of birth and my dv lottery form i had filled in 1992.your help will be a great impact for me to change my year of birth before my 2 notification letter comes out.
February 10, 2017 at 14:55
The DS260 should have the correct year of birth on the DS260. So – if it is correct, don’t change it.
February 10, 2017 at 10:32
Dear Brit,
First of all thank you for your help in everything.
My case number is EU26xxx and I am going to change my home address, so do I have to unlock the DS260?
If I don’t unlock the DS260 and I inform the embassy when the moment of the interview will come, can influence this change in the final decision for getting or not the Visas??
Waiting your response,
Best Regards
February 10, 2017 at 14:53
You don’t *have to* unlock, but there is no harm in doing so.
February 10, 2017 at 10:40
Hello Simon! Does the police report need to be valid till the first entry to the US airport?
February 10, 2017 at 14:52
No. Just at interview.
February 10, 2017 at 12:01
Hi Brit pls what does it mean by high school diploma. 2. And how did I express my self if the CO ask me about why did I want to go to USA? Thanks
February 10, 2017 at 14:43
1. Some countries award a diploma for finishing high school
2. You give YOUR answers, not mine or anyone else’s.
February 10, 2017 at 12:02
Hello once more Brit. Please I’m still in Cameroon since I received my visa from the embassy. I’ve been trying to open the USCIS for the visa payment but it’s telling either of my A- and Case ID numbers may be wrong. Mean while I’m using the details given to me at the embassy with my package. Please I’m kinda nervouse. Help clarify me on how to go about the process sir. I’ll be grateful.
February 10, 2017 at 14:42
You have the instructions – what more can I say?? Just calm down and make sure you are following instructions and entering the numbers correctly.
February 10, 2017 at 12:11
Hi BritSimon,
Thanks so much for all your updates and insights into this long and confusing process. With regards to the visa bulletin numbers to this point, do you believe OC is climbing so slowly because of a DS260 backlog or because of the low highest case number? If the former, when do you expect things will speed up?
Thanks.
February 10, 2017 at 14:40
It’s backlog and the fact that they spread processing over the year. The highest assigned number is OC1458 So – the have 5 processing months to get from 850 to 1458. That isn’t impossible. Relax.
February 10, 2017 at 12:17
one of my friends interview schedule has posted as in April. When will he get his second letter.

Great!
February 10, 2017 at 13:06
Good day mr. Simon: in a website about green card, wrote a stimation to SA higher case number to interview this year is CN 1258, do you think si?
February 10, 2017 at 14:28
I don’t know.
February 10, 2017 at 13:35
Dear Simon:
i’m from Egypt , I was married to a US citizen and filled for a change of status then got divorced before the INS interview and left the USA on 2005 … then I found out that I had an absentee order of removal on Oct 2006 though I left the USA on March 2005 , but my lawyer didn’t inform the INS that I left. so they issued the removal order and i didn’t know about it until 2 years ago as i applied for a US visa and i got it and flew to the US ,,, once arrived at JFK i found out i can’t get in… after explaining to the CBP officer everything he asked me to withdrawn my visa application and i did and Paroled me into the USA to attend the conference i was going to,,,i did attended it and went back home to Egypt
I got selected for DV 2017 and my case will be current in April. so i’m preparing my interview documents
on the dvselectee.state.gov website i found under section: PREPARE SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS==>DEPORTATION DOCUMENTS:
“Applicants who have previously been deported or removed at government expense from the United States must obtain Form I-212, Permission to Reapply after Deportation, from the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), and follow the instructions included on that form.”
my question is that: does this apply to me??? do I need the Form I-212???
thanks in advance and sorry for the long story:)
February 10, 2017 at 14:27
Well the point is moot. The I-212 processing time takes around 6 months (often more than 6 months), so in general terms you won’t have time to apply and get the answer before the DV2017 process ends. If you want to take the 212 to the interview, you can do that, but I don’t have information on filing the form.
February 10, 2017 at 14:35
it’s not that i want to take, i need to know if this apply to me,, i mean in my case should I have it… as it says”Applicants who have previously been deported or removed at government expense from the United States” … i was not deport on government expenses neither removed on government expenses… that’s why I’m asking does this apply to me?
February 10, 2017 at 15:15
I cannot tell you with certainty how the CO will assess your case details. It is specific to your case.
February 10, 2017 at 13:54
Hi Brit
how long is the police certification valid for as my number is current in April so I wonder should i do it now or wait for March to do it?
February 10, 2017 at 14:21
Wait until you get the 2NL.
February 10, 2017 at 14:43
Hi Simon,
After waiting two weeks of status AP now two members got “issued” status including the main Applicant. But still i can see one derivative status become AP-> Ready. Now the ready status is for two days. Is it normal?
February 10, 2017 at 15:01
Hello Simon. Thanks for your blog. I’ve been following it very closely even reading all the comments that are at least remotely close to my case. However, I am getting impatient and I think I will just ask you if thats ok. My husband is a primary applicant and his number is 2017EU21.. On January 21st he adjusted his status and received his Green card in the mail. On February 1 he applied i 824 follow to join for me since i am overseas. We both filed ds 260 in october me saying i will go thru consular processing and he saying he will adjust status in the US. I just don’t know how long this process will take and when i should expect my 2NL. Approximate guess is fine too. With your experience you will probably be right anyway. Thanks beforehand.
February 10, 2017 at 15:10
A FTJ case is nothing like any of the cases being discussed here. So – there is no way to predict your 2NL based on those other cases.
February 10, 2017 at 21:11
Hi brit…
my sponsor lives in USA with WORK PERMIT since 3 years He don’t know how to file the I134 form in this case:
If you are not a U.S. citizen based on your birth in the United States, or a non-citizen U.S. national based on your birth in American Samoa (including Swains Island), answer the following as appropriate:
A- a. If a U.S.citizen through naturalization, give Certificate of Naturalization number.
B-If a U.S. citizen through parent(s) or marriage, give Certificate of Citizenship number.
C-If U.S. citizenship was derived by some other method, attach a statement of explanation.
D- If a Lawful Permanent Resident of the United States, give A-Number.
E-If a lawfully admitted nonimmigrant, give Form I-94, Arrival-Departure Record, number.
What he should chose?
Thanks .
February 10, 2017 at 21:30
Depending on his status, it would either be D or more likely E. Having said that, someone on a temporary visa is not an ideal sponsor if there is some concern that the person could leave the USA.
February 11, 2017 at 01:58
Hello brit sir ..I am worried about “rejection of edv “has been passed in senate…..??it is really gone a affect dv 2017 sir..???
February 11, 2017 at 05:29
No. It has not been passed, and cannot affect DV2017
February 11, 2017 at 06:13
Dear Brit I’m from Egypt
I’m a dv2017 selectee and my case is current in April.
regarding the sponsor is there any guidelines if i need a sponsor or not? like how much in my bank account will be enough not to need a sponsor or i will need it any way. If i will need it please send me a link to follow how to do it
thanks a lot for ur help…
February 11, 2017 at 06:14
also please kindly tell me how much time it needs in case i need to do it
February 11, 2017 at 14:07
If you are interviewing in Cairo, they rarely ask for an I-134.
But read this anyway.

February 11, 2017 at 06:27
Hi Brit! My company will move me to US and I will have an L1 visa before my interview for the green card. Do I need to modify my ds 260? I am eu235xx which means that I will be current possibly in May.. also it is mandatory to change the consulate in this case?
February 11, 2017 at 14:05
Once you get the L1 and move. You can update the DS260, BUT you need to decide whether you will process in the home country or the USA. The process in the USA is “adjustment of status” and it is totally different to CP. You can read a comparison on the thread below. Read the spreadsheet linked on the first post in the thread.
http://forums.immigration.com/threads/dv-2017-aos-only.331328/
February 11, 2017 at 07:48
hi Brit how are ya
dear Brit i needed to ask you this: i have submitted my D-260 form more than three months now. and my status is AT NVC now.
should i have taken the six steps they are showing me on nvc.state.gov ? or i should be waiting until i receive an email and then start taking all those steps and pay the fees and other things ?
the reason i’m so worried is because i’m doing it for my brother and my sources to find accurate info are almost none. so you’re the only person i have that i can trust and be sure of.
thank you
February 11, 2017 at 14:03
Ignore the NVC text. Wait.
February 11, 2017 at 09:00
Dear BritSimon. We had our DV interview few days ago in London embassy. We were told we were fully approved but they were waiting for our medical as there was a small delay. They said we should have our passports back within a week or two. I was checking CEAC since and the status is updated daily but still on Administrative Processing since the day of our interview.Today is Saturday and the day has changed to 11.02 still same status AP. Should I get worried ?? We were not given 221g or anything.
February 11, 2017 at 14:00
No, don’t get worried. Patience.
February 11, 2017 at 09:01
Hi Simon, I hope my interview will be scheduled for may and after I receive 2NL is needed to appoint(announce the interview date)the local US embassy?
thanks.
February 11, 2017 at 14:00
You get an email from KCC. SOME embassies then send you additional instructions.
February 11, 2017 at 09:29
Hi Brit ,thanks a lot for your work ,i am tying to book my embassy appointment in Kenya but i get these options, which one do i select coz i am confused?
1.I have received a Consular interview appointment date from the National Visa Center (NVC), Kentucky Consular Center (KCC), or the Consular Section and I have been instructed to register my appointment on this site.
2.I have received a letter from the consular section with instructions to schedule an immigrant visa appointment.
3.I have received a letter to register or schedule a Diversity Lottery visa appointment.
Kindly assist me bro
February 11, 2017 at 13:58
Which of those three options sounds most appropriate for a ****DIVERSITY LOTTERY**** appointment???
February 11, 2017 at 12:25
Hi BritSimon,
Is the chance of elimination of DV 2018 really big? How can they suddenly remove such a thing in only a year or less? Is it possible that they only eliminate certain countries from DV 2018 rather than eliminating the whole lottery?
February 11, 2017 at 13:53
No the chance is not big. Relax.
February 11, 2017 at 17:09
Dear sir,
if not enough sponcer annual income, can I give bank balance (USA SPONCER BANK BALANCE) to interview?

February 11, 2017 at 17:21
Hi Simon , I had the interview on march 22 and I had confirmed the appointment. Yesterday, the USA ambassy in Tirana sent me an email and they had changed my date of interview on 5 march. I don’t know what to do with the confirmation appointment. Should a have to change the date of appointment or I had to print the email and to attach it to the confirmation. Thank you
February 11, 2017 at 17:38
I would print out the email and go on the 5th.
February 11, 2017 at 18:41
CN:2017af90xx
First Ds 260 Submission: Sept 24, 2016
Never Unlocked.
Hi Brits My Wife (main Applicant) Identified A Mistake In Her Date Of Birth (She Was Not With Her Biological Parents Immediately After Given Birth To Her) And Ten Years Ago she Rectified the problem (Three Years Added To Her Age) At The Birth Registry. The Problem Is Her Certificates From Elementary Schools To First Degree Bare The Old Date Of Birth And Her Masters Degree And Other Current Documents Bare The New Date Of Birth. The birth certificate, DS 260, and old and new passports have the new date of birth
1. Can This Affect Our Chances Of Sucess? If Yes, What Can We Do About It Nw?
2. Using The March VB, should we expect April Interview? We are current.
Thanks Brits for your continues support.
February 11, 2017 at 22:12
1. Yes of course it can affect your chances. But you have done all you can do. It is up to the CO.
2. Probably.
February 11, 2017 at 19:42
Hi Simon! Thanks for responding to my previous question. Not sure if my other question went through I don’t see it here.
You mentioned that I must not be out of status when filing I485, which I can fix, I will extend I20. However, is it OK if my I20 ends while my case is pending, meaning they accepted my package, sent me NOA, and maybe even I perform Bio. But switch to grace period while waiting for an interview. Is that OK, or by the time my I20 is about to expire I should extend for a new one?
Thanks in advance.
February 11, 2017 at 22:09
As I said before, use the other thread for AoS questions.
February 12, 2017 at 02:59
Hi MS. My husband recently adjusted status from F1. USCIS sent receipt form i believe it was i 797 form just confirming they received all docs. He took this form to international office and they changed his status in their SEVIS records and terminated his international student status. I highly recommend you talk with your international advisors. So until interview, he didn’t study. and it was fine. However, don’t just rely on my answer cuz maybe it is different in every state. ours was nebraska. talk with your international office ppl. Good luck.
February 12, 2017 at 03:05
I would strongly recommend he/she does NOT do that. The “international office people” don’t know how to handle a case correctly, whilst I have directed MS to a thread where he can get EXPERT advice.
February 12, 2017 at 10:34
Will do! Thanks
February 11, 2017 at 21:37
Hey Brit,
I’ve made this post at http://www.visajourney.com.
Maybe you could read it and answer me here.
http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/625661-2-errors-in-edv-should-i-attend-the-interview/
Thanks a lot.
February 11, 2017 at 22:08
You are worrying for no reason. assume you corrected the errors in your DS260 and your place of birth is within the same country as the other place of birth. If so, no problem – very little, almost no, risk.
February 11, 2017 at 22:25
The DS-260 is 100% accurate and both cities are in Germany, Hm, I was worrying because I’ve read the post “I made xxx error in the original entry form – will I be disqualified?”. Will I guess I will attend the interview, I will share my experience with you.
Greetings.

Hello Brits, Kindly waiting for your answers

Hi! If I enter US to activate my visa and stay for 30 days, than go home and come back to US after 11 months, does that time in between count as continuous residence? Do the 5 years required for citizenship start on the first or the second entry?
February 12, 2017 at 14:20
Continuous residence means residing there. So no, that time won’t count.

Hi,
I was interviewed on Feb 7 and approved. They told us to pay USCIS fee after giving us yellow paper. We were told to pick our passports on 15 Feb. On 8 Feb when I check status it says AP. I am confused my sister is about to pay USCIS fee on the number (A number and DOS number). It’s really frustrating to be kept like this. Plus we have to go back to my husband’s place of work. We need passport after a week. it’s Addis Ababa. thanks,

It is very common that CEAC shows AP for a days or two after a successful interview. The status then changes to issued.
February 12, 2017 at 14:34
My one also AP for few days then two members got “issued” status including the main Applicant. But still i can see one derivative status become AP-> Ready. Now the ready status is for two days. Is it normal?
February 12, 2017 at 14:44
Yes. Patience.

Thanks for the response Simon. I have one more question can my sister pay the USCIS fee. They just gave us a Yellow sheet with numbers on it to pay the fee. I am not sure if its required in US emabssy Addis Ababa. Thank you again,
February 12, 2017 at 18:11
That fee is paid online. The instructions from the embassy explain how.
