Hi, Simon. please clarify for me how the AV embassy line transition works! my case number is AF3k I got my letter 4 “current for interview process” on 14 February 2023, just before the visa bulletin release for February, was released. here is my question am I going to jump ahead of the case numbers that are processed before me and about to be current like AF 21k, keeping in mind that for the Africa region, for the January visa bulletin was up 20k?
thanks for the time that you dedicated to the DV family.

Hi brit
In my 2021 ds260 I mistakenly selected NO when they asked if I have any other job
1.Can I select yes this time to add it now? (Welding and fabrication)
2. Won’t they think I lied in my previous form?
3.And is it even necessary since is not a qualified job according to onet.. Thanks
June 2, 2023 at 15:16
1. You can’t change a DV2021 DS260 at the moment. I think you may be talking about another win in DV2024 but you have not been clear.
2. No
3. Telling the truth is necessary.
June 2, 2023 at 15:24
Yes another win in 2024
June 2, 2023 at 18:46
So answer the DV2024 one completely honestly.
June 2, 2023 at 12:11
Hi Simon,
2024OC37xx…Just a procedural question if I may. Incorrectly added my fiancee onto the DS260 form while in the first screen (presumed I could delete it).
Alerted KCC to the fact and said they cannot undo (later read this in your blog).
I’ve filled in up to the sign and submit part of my primary applicant DS260 as “single” which is accurate as of today.
1) CAN I safely submit my DS260 as single now to enter the processing queue i.e. even if it “locks” my fiancee’s incorrect spouse profile (which we WONT touch until after the wedding!), or, do both DS260’s need to be submitted to activate processing (so i can just relax and wait)?
Thanks heaps if you know…would really like to get it into the queue with my high case#
June 2, 2023 at 15:15
Just submit yours. Hers will be ready for you to reopen when you are married.
June 2, 2023 at 21:14
Thank you!!

Hi Brit,
I have 2 questions.
1 – I entered the US with my immigration visa on 2nd of May 2023 to coincide with a business trip.
While in the US I received my SS card and my Green Card has already been delivered. I will collect it in July from my friend who received it.
Both my SSN and GC are missing letters in my middle name.
My middle name has 9 letters. The SS card shows 6 letters and the GC has 8. Both my first and last name are correct. Note: The envelope with the GC was addressed with my full name. I went to the SS office while in the US in May and they recommended to wait for the GC to make any modification. Is the middle name being truncated really an issue?
2 – I’m back in Europe and based on my first trip with my visa I don’t anticipate any tangible move until March 2024. I know you keep saying here to keep it below 6 months and not more than 1 year out of the US. I’m planning a 2 week trip in September. Will that help not raising eyebrows?
Thank you!
Veronique
June 2, 2023 at 15:13
1. Not an issue. They obviously know your full name but are truncating it for space.
2. Yes it will probably help.
June 2, 2023 at 05:06
Hi Britt.
I am from Europe (European Union) Doctor of Science and in 2022 I have been to USA twice for scientific conferences.
The first time I was for 11 days and the second time for 6 days.
In the column Previous U.S. I have given Travel Information the correct arrival details, but have swapped the days of stay. I wrote that the first time I stayed for 6 days, and the second time for 11 days.
I’m assuming that the KCC have access to this type of information and they will see the correct dates of stay, and that they are technically swapped.
Anyway, is what I’ve done a serious problem?
Should he have asked to unlock the DS-260?
However to say that my case number is small (5***)
Thanks!
June 2, 2023 at 15:12
Not serious at all – and yes they already have your I-94 data. No need to unlock.
June 2, 2023 at 02:45
Hi Simon, We got our DV lottery visas approved on wednesday here in Abu Dhabi. we were 2023AF22xxx and we are just waiting for our passports to be couriered to us next week. I wanted to thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the advice and videos and lives you do. We are south africans living in Dubai, United Arab Emirates that had our interview in Abu dhabi.
June 2, 2023 at 15:11
Congratulations!!!
June 2, 2023 at 02:14
Hello,
Im a winner for dv 2024 and i made some mistakes for my ds 260 form what can i do?
June 2, 2023 at 15:11
You can email KCC asking them to unlock your form. It’s covered in the FAQ.
June 2, 2023 at 02:05
Hello Simon,
I won the DV2024, and I’ve already submitted my DS260 with my daughter. I made one silly mistake. I entered the right address for my kid but wrong country. I just found out I stated Australia instead of putting Fiji. What can i do to correct this mistake? Im worried, will it delay my process? Also my case number is 2326 should i be worried about it?
June 2, 2023 at 15:10
1. Since it is the derivative you can ignore it.
2. Your number without a region is meaningless, but in any case it is too soon to judge any DV2024 case numbers since we do not know the selectee numbers.
June 1, 2023 at 23:04
Hi BritSimon, I have 2 questions regarding work experience. I meet the education requirement and I intend to use that for the eligibility.
1. In this situation, does my answer to the “2-year training/experience” matter at all? Technically speaking, I don’t think my job requires any experience since new grads do join and learn on the job, so I want to check no as it also skips the further question (duty)
2. Am I supposed to list part-time job experiences as well? I worked as a casual staff here and there during my uni days, but I don’t suppose that would be any of the interest of the immigration officer.
Thanks!
June 2, 2023 at 15:08
1. No – but be accurate anyway.
2. No
June 1, 2023 at 19:15
Hi Simon,
Hope you’re doing fine.
In Oceania for DV 2023, there are 77 cases which is no show till the end of May, and 40 cases were refused. In a nutshell, this is unfilled. Is there a possibility that these cases can be filled by adding new cases via the visa bulletin before September 30? Please advise.
June 1, 2023 at 20:58
Yes, that is how it works.
June 1, 2023 at 14:25
Hi brit thanks for all efforts to enlighten us on this process
I’m selected for dv2024, from Ghana a principal applicant with 4 derivatives qualifying with work experience (musicians and singer)
I would have loved to process for my wife and kids too but I’m concerned about the subjective nature of work experience qualification interview and the financial implications that can result if we all were to attend the interview together and are denied for some reason.
1. Is it possible that I attend an interview alone and if successful, I take them later?
2. Can I also choose Togo for my interview since my wife and the kids are now there for some time now if it happens to migrate with them?.. Thanks
June 1, 2023 at 16:02
As I have already answered you, it is technically possible to add the derivatives to the case after the interview, but it depends on the embassy. You can check with the embassy about how to handle that – they might for example only charge the one fee to start with and then get you to pay the other fees on the same day.
Yes I would choose Togo if I were you.
Just understand that to qualify by work experience you will need to clearly prove that your profession is at the level needed to pay the bills. You should be able to lay out professional earnings, work product and publicity that shows the term and success of your music career.
June 2, 2023 at 12:44
Kindly explain…
clearly prove that your profession is at the level needed to pay the bills..
I am currently employed in the Armed forces for same profession for 15years now. Performed in national and international programs, training other organizations etc. Does that much the above please… Thanks
June 2, 2023 at 15:18
Sounds like you are a military bandsman. So, yes it is a way you can show you earned a fulltime income from your music.
June 2, 2023 at 15:40
Thanks so much brit
Am so so grateful
June 1, 2023 at 13:59
Hello, sir. I am originally from Europe but currently living in Honduras. Which Embassy I should choose for an interview? Many thanks.
June 1, 2023 at 15:55
The one where you live.
June 1, 2023 at 13:39
Hello Simon! I am a Cuban winner of the DV-2024. When I made my registration for the lottery in October 2022, I put my personal data from Cuba and I chose Cuba as the country to do the interview. But since January 2023 I am studying in Mexico and I included the current address of Mexico in the DS-260 form. Still, when I completed my DS-260, I chose the U.S. Embassy in Cuba as the consular embassy for the interview. Because I went to the US embassy in Mexico and an official recommended that I do it in Cuba because it is in the Mexican embassy that they could request the legalized documents by Cuban organizations and that is currently a problem. In addition, my temporary student residence is only for 1 year, and if I run out of legal status in Mexico I could not do my interview at the US embassy in Mexico. My question is:
1- Do I have to write to KCC to confirm that my interview is in Cuba?
2- Won’t KCC automatically put me as a country for the interview Mexico because I put it as the current address?
Thanks in advance
June 1, 2023 at 14:32
They will schedule you in Mexico because of your current residence. If that is not what you want, you need to email KCC and explain why you should be allocated to Cuba.
June 1, 2023 at 20:10
Hi Simon, I think it will be scheduled in Cuba cuz indeed he choosed Cuba for interview not mexico. And of course they asked him to choose the location for the interview.
June 1, 2023 at 20:57
They ignore the choice.
June 1, 2023 at 11:35
I am a lucky winner of DV 2023, my case number is 90** and my ds 260 submit date is June 22, 2022. I received the 4th type mail on December 2, but I still could not get an interview, the place for the interview is Ankara Turkish Consulate. Why haven’t I received an interview so far? Did I make a mistake somewhere in the process or is there something I need to do to get an interview? Will I be able to get an interview until September?
June 1, 2023 at 14:29
If his case is AS region, then he probably became AV status in January. Most cases that have been scheduled until now were AV before that date. Ankara have taken 125 interviews for July (a small increase) so your best hope is that they get to your case next month for August interviews.
June 1, 2023 at 10:41
Hello I missed my interview because I misread the instructions, my interview was supposed to be 19th of May in Casablanca’s embassy in Morocco. is there any hope left for me? what do I need to do. please I need your advice
June 1, 2023 at 13:54
You have to contact the embassy and ask them if they can reschedule the interview.
June 1, 2023 at 10:30
Good day Simon, if the primary applicant has a job offer that meets the 2023 poverty guidelines at 100% for 2 (applicant and spouse), would that be enough to convince the CO that we would not become a public charge?
June 1, 2023 at 13:57
Maybe. But two concerns spring into my mind.
First – It is unusual for a USA company to “hold” a job open for a person going through an immigration purpose. If I were the CO I would be suspicious of that, and wonder if the offer is genuine.
Second, that salary level is low. If you are so special that they are prepared to hold a job for you, why would they pay you such a low salary.
May 31, 2023 at 20:33
Hello! In the DS form they are asking about my previous US visas, but I am unable to fill the correct information since the visa numbers and issuance dates were in my old passport. (Two J1 visas from 2015 and 2016). I have reached out to the Embassy, KCC and national archive but they were not able to help me. What should I do?
May 31, 2023 at 20:54
Just enter your best guess. The CO will have access to them for precise dates.
May 31, 2023 at 16:48
Hi BritSimon, please help with the following.
1. My husband is Turkish citizen, now we are living and working in Mexico. Our case number is 2024EU0007XX. Where would it be better to have to the interview, Mexico or Turkey? Hoping to be invited in October due to a very low case number. I know it has been very slow in the past few years, so don’t want to delay our interview due to slow consular processing. Please help.
2. My husband was studying in Azerbaijan 1 year in university but didn’t get any diploma due to leaving university. Should he mention it in DS260? If yes, what should he write in line “Degree of Diploma”
3. I am confused about Country of origin as i am holding more than one citizenship. Originally I am from Turkmenistan but Turkmen passport is already expired and I am not sure I can extend it and I am planning to get visa in my Turkish passport. Which country of origin should I write Turkey or Turkmenistan?
May 31, 2023 at 17:50
1. Already answered.
2. Whatever he studied.
3. The correct country of origin.
May 31, 2023 at 18:11
Thank you.
One more question.
I worked 2 months in one company in 2015 but this company no longer exists and also I don’t have any info about this company, no records. Is it okey if I don’t mention it in my ds-260?
May 31, 2023 at 18:23
No – you should list it anyway, otherwise you would have to move the dates around for other jobs – why lie?
June 2, 2023 at 00:43
Hi Simon, I graduated from ABC high school. but i lost my diploma now the high school i studied name changed to XYZ. which name i should write because when i asked document that shows i graduated from high school XYZ name is written on the document. also i managed to find the official letter that states name change approved and accepted from Governor. do you think this document will work.
June 2, 2023 at 15:09
You can choose which name – ABC might be easiest.
May 31, 2023 at 15:01
Hello, DV2023 case number AF18***, embassy in Casablanca, Morocco. Applied DS-260 17th of July. Received 2NL 24th of March. Got status “Ready” 27th of March. Still didn’t receive the letter with interview date. 95% of the cases with the same 2NL date had interviews previous week. What to do?
May 31, 2023 at 17:48
Sounds like you did not follow the instructions. You were told to get your appointment details from the ESC page – have you checked that?
May 31, 2023 at 14:16
hello Simon, I’m a DV2024 Winner from Russia, and our embassy for interview is Poland. Considering the current situation we are thinking of requesting to switch embassy to another country because getting to Poland might be problematic requiring a visa etc. Do you know of any winners from Russia last year and where did they end up interviewing at?
May 31, 2023 at 17:46
The situation is very dynamic, and depending on your case number it is probably months before this is something you can do anything about. I suggest you research where you could travel to.
May 31, 2023 at 12:33
Hello Mr. Simon, good day!
A friend of mine told me, this year LOW or High case number is not important that means who completed firstly DS-260 has advantage, is that correct
Thanks a lot
Best wishes
Looking forward to your response

Not exactly no. If you want to understand exactly – watch this – https://youtu.be/8D5QzxAiXBI

In one of the videos regarding Adjustment Of Status process, you said three lawyers know very well about this process. Can you please write their name and/or website?

May 31, 2023 at 09:56
Hello brit I hope everything good with you, I have question, how many winners are selected by every country in Dv24 I can’t find it in Google.
May 31, 2023 at 17:41
It is not published yet. We will see that in July or August.
May 31, 2023 at 07:41
Hi Brit, Trust all is well.
I am a 2023 DV winner. My case has been laying at the Johannesburg Embassy since March’23. My medical expires in August’23. Should my case be approved in July’23 how long time will I have before I need to be in the USA to activate the Green card. I still have to sell my house and assets before i can leave.
May 31, 2023 at 17:41
Your visa will be dated as 6 months more than the date you took the medical. If that timeline is too short, you would have to repeat the medical.
May 31, 2023 at 06:56
Hi Brit,
I was selected for DV2024, I am in the process of filling out the DS260, however I don’t know what to do with the part, “Please provide the following information on where you intend to live after arrival in the United States”. I do not have anyone in the US. I can not give an answer to that question yet, as I just do not know.
Related to this I also have to specify the mailing address inside the US(where they will send the GC in case of successful application), which I do not have again.
What is the usual solution in this cases?
Thanks in advance!
May 31, 2023 at 17:40
You choose an address now and update it at the interview. Between now and the interview you find a friend or contact you can trust.
May 31, 2023 at 04:17
Hi
I failed one subject on my high school certificate, will it cause me to be denied the visa?
May 31, 2023 at 17:39
Depends which subject, which country and what other results you had – so I cannot predict the outcome.
May 30, 2023 at 20:55
Hi briton
We are winner of DV 2024 lottery from Afghanistan, actually My mom won the lottery. U.S Embassy kabul,Afghanistan has suspended its operation in afghanistan. Can I choose another Nieghboring embassy of U.S like U.S embassy in pakistan for interview process. And my second question is while filling Ds-260 I face problem of filling the Birth city, the problem is that we donot have Birth cities in afghanistan we have only Province,District and villages,so what should i do in this case? is district equivalent to birth city.
Another point is that when filling DV lottery application-in place of Birth City I ticked Birth city unknown because of the above reason?
thanks
May 31, 2023 at 17:37
NUMBER questions please.
1. Yes you can choose Islamabad
2. Give the most accurate answer you can (check on the birth cert)
3. That should be OK.
May 30, 2023 at 20:17
Hi Simon,
My case is 2023OC18xx. I was below the 70 percentile when checked in xarthisius. Is this still effective?
May 31, 2023 at 17:33
The order hasn’t changed, but the percentile was just a guesstimate, not an exact prediction.
May 30, 2023 at 17:51
Greetings Mr simon
i wanted to know if all DS 260 are treated and processed separately or in the family application it is dependent on each other.
in case one of the family member medical gets inadmissible will it affect the main applicant and the rest of the family members.
please advsie.
thank you
May 31, 2023 at 17:33
Well firstly – KCC do not adjudicate cases – so they would never find a case inadmissible during DS260 processing. At interview a derivative found inadmissible does not directly affect the main applicant or other derivatives.
May 30, 2023 at 16:20
Dear Brit, thanks for your answers.
I requested KCC to unlock my case so that i can add my school, but add another button in the work and education page doesn’t work. when i try to save it the page refreshes and a big red message appears: Your request cannot be proccessed at this time.
I have tried during different times and days and it’s the same. Should I inform the KCC about this difficulty or a bug of the website? Have you ever seen something like this with other apllicants?
Thanks, Sabuhi
May 31, 2023 at 17:30
It might be that your form is not unlocked. If it says “completed” it is locked.
Otherwise try a different browser, or even different PC.
May 31, 2023 at 18:07
It says incomplete which means it’s unlocked i think. i tried on pc, macos and both with firefox and safari.
May 31, 2023 at 18:23
OK – I have no other suggestion.
May 30, 2023 at 15:36
Hi BritSimon, please help with the following. We are Turkish citizens, living and working in Mexico. Our case number is 2024EU0007XX. Where would it be better to have to the interview, Mexico or Turkey? Hoping to be invited in October due to a very low case number. I know it has been very slow in the past few years, so don’t want to delay our interview due to slow consular processing. Please help.
May 31, 2023 at 17:29
If you haven’t already submitted your DS260 you probably won’t have an October interview. As for where – well they normally schedule you based on current address. Interviewing in Turkey might be quicker since education and other documents will be more easily understood.
June 1, 2023 at 16:37
Hi Simon thank you for your answer.
i have another question. I wrote all my educations to DS form but from one university i studied one year i dont have any documents and it is not possible to get any because the university closed by government and they are not sharing any of documents they had. what do you suggest about this?
June 1, 2023 at 20:59
List it anyway.
May 30, 2023 at 11:52
Hi Brit, I am helping fill out my dad who’s a derivative of my mum (principal winner DV24). My dad’s passport is obsolete and we’re renewing it for him which of course would take time. Can I alternatively use his national identification card number to fill out his ds form? If yes would there be any implications if he goes to the interview?
May 30, 2023 at 10:09
Hi Simon,
Thanks in advance for your insight.
I’m 2024OC37xx, primary applicant. Born & charging to NZ, but dual citizen of NZ and Ireland with valid passport of both countries (that are both DV eligible). All my personal documents are NZ issued as I grew up in NZ and have never set foot in Ireland before (claimed citizenship through descent “foreign births registration”).
Completing the DS260 and I’m a bit stuck…
1) Personal info 1 section: I have a hyphenated middle name e.g.
Lastname, Firstname Middle-Name
I cannot use a hyphen in the given names section so is it correct to put ‘Lastname, Firstname MiddleName’ OR ‘Lastname, Firstname Middle Name’ i.e. extra space? If you cannot give a definite answer on this please refer me to KCC
2) Personal info 2 section:
Referring to my intro statements above, can I use my Irish passport for the travel documents section even though I’ve never lived or been to Ireland before?
Essentially, can I “nominate” my dual Ireland passport (that is EU region DV compliant) to take a GC visa even though I would be interviewing and charging to OC region OC at Sydney?
Sorry for the details!
May 30, 2023 at 10:29
1. You are overthinking. Just use your judgement and move on.
2. Yes you can use the Irish passport for the visa if you want.
May 30, 2023 at 07:50
Hi Simon,
I did my military service in the Italian army and then I volunteered in the navy as marshal.
I have two discharge certificates, do I need to enter both ds-260s?
Thank you
May 30, 2023 at 08:55
No harm in doing that.
May 30, 2023 at 07:05
Hi There! I’m selected and now filling the DS- 260 form. I don’t know anyone in the USA so I was wondering is it ok to give a hotel address for the Mailing and Permanent address information and change this if I get approved for the green card?
May 30, 2023 at 08:55
You could do that, but should make sure to update the address at interview.
May 30, 2023 at 05:33
Hi BritSimon
Do you have any updated views / thoughts on health insurance coverage for new immigrants? I see in the archived FAQ you linked to visitorscoverage.com which looks good. They seem to refer issue policies by IMGlobal which look like they suit for the initial period whilst settling in / looking for employment etc. any updated views on them or other companies appreciated.
May 30, 2023 at 08:51
The visitors coverage policies are a good “bridge” to cover you until you get something more permanent. Healthcare is still crazily expensive here, so you will want an ACA level plan later, but that often comes through employment.
May 30, 2023 at 05:31
Hi, Brit. I have a question about the public charge. I’m going to have about 5-7k$ in savings in my bank account statement before the interview. I’ve seen you mentioning that 10k$ per person is a minimum. Will that be a problem? I also should have a person from the US to fill out that form for me, where they show they’re willing to help me out when I get to the States (sorry forgot what it’s called). But that person is not even middle class, just working a regular job as a bartender and still living with family.. Wonder if that’ll work. What would you recommend? Thank you!
May 30, 2023 at 08:49
I suggest you read this

May 29, 2023 at 20:47
Hi Simon,
I’m a Goh Plantiff and also miraculously won DV2024. I’m curious if you are hearing of Goh plaintiffs winning this year?
May 30, 2023 at 08:40
That will happen due to the law of averages.
May 29, 2023 at 18:45
Hello mr Brit
I have a problem with the DS260 form, I made a mistake on the second page, as I clicked on add accompaniment.
Knowing that they existed for me and my wife multiplied twice.
is there a solution?
May 29, 2023 at 19:04
Don’t submit the additional form.
May 29, 2023 at 18:27
How many visas are left for Algeria
May 29, 2023 at 19:04
I can’t be precise, but probably 200 to 300 that aren’t already scheduled for interview.
May 29, 2023 at 16:48
Hi Simon,
I am trying to choose between the Riga and London embassies for DV2024 DS260 application.
Case number is close to EU41K and therefore I am looking for this choice in terms of possible backlog.
Chargeability is Latvia but we live in UK and therefore default embassy is London
Would you have any thoughts?
Thanks a lot
May 29, 2023 at 17:13
This is like asking me to predict the weather in Riga and London on some random day 1 year from now.
All I can say is that London is normally efficient.
May 29, 2023 at 13:39
Hi Brit Good evening from Ghana
A friend of my went to US at the age of 12 from Brazil without passport and returned from US at the age of 20 the passport he returned with was issued by Ghana embassy in Washington.
1) he has not been issued us visa before
2) he has US high school certificate
Will this be a problem since he was a child and didn’t know how he got the US without a passport and visa?

Possibly a problem if he accrued illegal presence as an adult and therefore has a ban.

Hey Brit. Thank you for the great work you have done. Can you please advise if I should enter my parents’ previous birthplace name or the current one if it has been changed?

Already answered.

Thank you once more for spending yourself the way you do to enlighten the rest of us. I appreciate your work.
I’ve got a question.
I’m a principal applicant with 4 derivatives qualifying with work experience in 2024AF.
I would have loved to process for my wife and kids too but I’m concerned about the subjective nature of work experience qualification interview and the financial implications that can result if we all were to attend the interview together and are denied for some reason. Is it possible that I attend an interview alone and if successful, I take them later?

Not a good idea (because it introduces delay and risk), but it is technically possible.
What is the work experience you want to use? Be specific. Also which embassy.

Hi Brit, My case number is 2024AS79xx from Nepal. Is there a risk of not getting 2NL with this number?
May 29, 2023 at 09:17
There are always risks in this process.

Dear Simon,
Thank you very much for answering all our questions.
Our Case Number: 2023AS6###
Chargeability Country: Sri Lanka
Interview Location: Abu Dhabi
Interview in: June 2023
I want to know if someone provides us with an I-134, but with the SSN hidden in the attached documents, will that still be accepted by the CO?
May 29, 2023 at 09:17
I can’t be sure what the CO would do in that case.

Mr. Simon, good day!
My wife has been randomly selected for the further processing for DV 2024. We’ve completed DS 260 and submitted in mid- May. After a while I understood that made a mistake. In Work/Education/Training section I was confused with the wording and showed current occupation. Instead of school. And for question of other secondary education institutions I answered no.
How can I amend our forms?

You write to KCC and ask to unlock. It’s described in the FAQ

Hey BritSimon, My case number is 2024AS79XX from Nepal. Is there a chance of interview and when do you think it will become current if there is a chance?
May 29, 2023 at 09:13
Wait and see – too early to start guessing dates.

Hi britsimon
I was born in Kuwait and claimed Indian citizenship because my parents were Indians. So could I register for next dv lottery or will I be ineligible.
Regards
May 31, 2023 at 17:37
If you can prove you were born in Kuwait – then you are eligible.
