Hi Simon,
Apologies for the long enquiry but would appreciate the insightful and wise advice.
I’m going to enter the 2026 lottery: 31, UK, single.
I’m hired for a US cruise contract c1d visa Dec-Jul, and have a sponsor for a J1 work visa Aug 1.
Firstly, is it ok to have other visas granted alongside this application? (I also have a 10 year B1/2 visa and a previous J1 2019)
Secondly, can I continue with the lottery if I win in May, and still do the J-1 work visa in Aug, or do I have to pick one route? My J-1 is initially for a year 25-26, but can be more. Hypothetically, could I do a waiver in 26 and fly home to complete the interview?
Thank you in advance.

This is a lottery. Chance of selection is one in one hundred years.
No need for detailed plans just enter and see if you win.

Hi Simon,
I have 3 questions:
1. I withdrew all my savings to come to Italy for my masters program and now I have a scheduled interview on 5th November in Italy. Can I use the physical cash I converted to Euros during my interview?
2. There is an online banking application called REVOLUT, one can deposit, withdraw and transfer and also one can print out his statement online. Can I deposit my physical cash there and print out the statement for my interview?
3. My Covid vaccination certificate is prepared in 5th June, 2023. Can I still use it.
Thank you Simon. Fingers crossed 🤞
September 28, 2024 at 21:44
1. No. Put it in a bank.
2. Maybe
3. You will probably need a booster.

Hi Brit, Egypt AF28k DV2025. Do you think it is worth changing embassies or doing AoS route? Any approximation when will it be current?
September 28, 2024 at 21:42
Hard to predict at this point, but it isn’t a high number, so no need to get creative.

Hello Simon,
I’m from Nairobi, Kenya. I won DV2025, AF36XXX. I applied for the DV Lottery as a single woman and had only included my 2 children. After winning, I added the father of my kids as a derivative and sent the DS260 applications. The date of marriage we indicated on the DS 260 application was the date indicated on an affidavit where I had declared him as a spouse in 2018. We made the marriage official in August 2024. As per your recommendation, I requested KCC to unlock the DS 260 and filled out the correct date of marriage, completed and sent the application back on September 09th.
Now, I have just watched one of your vlogs where you were talking about listing all children brought together by a marriage. I don’t know if I heard you correctly but please clarify based on my scenario below….
My husband has a son from a previous relationship. My husband indicated on his DS 260 that he has 3 kids (My 2 daughters and his son) This boy lives with his mother and will not be relocating to the US with us. On my DS 260 I indicated that I have 2 kids (my 2 daughters only) who will be relocating with us. On your vlog you have intimated that this could lead to our application being denied as I have only listed 2 kids and I am the primary applicant. There’s no legal document indicating that I have adopted this boy as my step son. I also highly doubt that the mother of this boy would give us custody/consent to immigrate with him. He is 16 years old.
Q: Would you recommend that I write to KCC AGAIN, requesting for my application to be unlocked so that I can now indicate on my DS 260 that the boy is my son?
If you answered yes, should I add him as a derivative and fill in his separate DS 260 form. Kindly note: We do not have this boy’s passport details, vaccination records, previous US travel information etc etc.
Thank you for your great work and invaluable support.
Kind regards,
Sylvia.
September 28, 2024 at 21:40
The earlier 2018 affidavit makes me think you could have a disqualification if the CO judges you were married before the entry.
However, if you are prepared to take that risk, your step son should be listed on your ds260, but no ds260 for that child since he will not emigrate.

Hi I’m new to the whole dv process and I just learnt the UK has been eligible since last year.
I have a question if I may:
I am a fellow Brit, but my wife, although settled and a permanent resident of the UK, is not a citizen, nor was she born in the UK.
She is from an ineligible country.
Can I still apply and add her?
Best wishes
September 28, 2024 at 21:34
You can each apply. She can charge ti your country of birth. Both enter, and both list the spouse.
September 29, 2024 at 05:40
Thank you for your reply.
I’m not knowledgeable on the terms just yet so not sure what you mean about charging to my country of birth.
I saw your Q&A video and you mentioned you will go through the application process in the next. Maybe if you could pick up on this aspect going forward in the video that would be helpful.
Again really appreciate your help.
September 29, 2024 at 09:52
So for your wife she will pick her country of birth in question 5 , and then she will pick your country of birth in Question 6.
I show the method here:

September 29, 2024 at 10:39
Amazing! Thank you.
I just saw your video prior to this comment, thank you for adding this.
I have been reading your blog and I note that you mention ‘holes’ in the case number etc, and I have been digesting what you have written.
I am assuming that the earlier I apply the lower the case number I receive will be, but I can see that is not correct.
So are the case numbers just generated randomly regardless of the date I apply, and I can get both a ‘high’ or ‘low’ case number randomly?
I am thinking to apply asap just to get a lower case number but reading your blog I see that’s not how it works.
Best wishes
September 29, 2024 at 11:43
There is no difference to your chance of selection OR the high/low numbers from the time of selection, marital status, education level, number of kids, age and so on. NOTHING.
It is a random process. Completely random.
September 28, 2024 at 15:42
Hi Simon !! I applied for DV2025 last year and got selected, my mom will apply this year for DV2026. We are wondering, does she need to put me in her application still? Fyi, I am below 21 but it doesn’t make sense to me because what if she gets selected? Would I need to be present at her interview also, even though I would have my own greencard by then? I am really confused, any advice would help
September 28, 2024 at 21:33
She must list you on her entry. If your mother is selected you don’t have to process on her case.
September 28, 2024 at 13:52
I have a 21 yo daughter who is UK citizen but was born and lives in Canada, can she apply on her own for lottery? I will be applying for myself/spouse and dependent children
September 28, 2024 at 21:30
Only if she can prove that she was born there to nom.Canadian parents who were only based in Canada temporarily
September 28, 2024 at 13:25
Hi Simon!
I hope you are doing well… thank you for your assistance with the DV lottery process.
I applied for DV-2025 but unfortunately was not selected and so I am going to apply for DV-2026.
The DV-2026 instructions list some specifications for photos.
Some of the specifications include:
– being 600 by 600 pixels in dimension (height of photo equals width of photo)
– 2 by 2 inches (51 by 51 mm)
– resolution of 300 pixels per inch
Ensuring compliance with these requirements results in a photo that is pixelated (I know this from my photo for my previous entry for DV-2025 which was not selected).
I took the DV-2025 photo and the DV-2026 photo at a photo studio.
The photo from the studio is not pixelated, however, ensuring that it meets the requirements results in a pixelated photo (I think this is due to the required resolution of 300 pixels per inch).
Will such a photo result in disqualification of the DV lottery entry?
I know that bad photos is the most common reason for disqualification of DV lottery entries prior to announcement of the results, hence my question.
Am I misunderstanding the photo instructions?
Thanks for the help, Simon.
Kind Regards,
Mohammed
September 28, 2024 at 21:28
Yes pixelation would cause a problem.
September 28, 2024 at 11:59
Hello, my sister would like to apply but she doesn’t have a high school diploma or and she just recently sold her liscence for her taxi job and is currently looking for a job, I watched your video and it seems that she might not be eligible to apply in this case ?
September 28, 2024 at 21:27
Correct
September 28, 2024 at 09:44
Hello sir! When entering your lottery 2026,how many children pass? I have one 26 Year old and another 19 Year old both single. In dv lottery 2025 I passed only the youngest one, I added that I have only one child. Is it wrong? Thank you
September 28, 2024 at 09:55
One eligible child. Correct.
September 28, 2024 at 07:19
Hello sir, I saw video about the green card and I have question regarding that, I stay with my parents and they want to apply and I also want to apply, can I apply with family or individually
September 28, 2024 at 09:55
If you are unmarried and under 21, then you can be a derivative of their applications. If you also meet the requirement for education, then you can also apply for yourself.
September 28, 2024 at 06:14
Hi Brit, I would like to know if the person had played the last DV lottery by choosing University Degree and for this year’s DV Lottery he is participating by simply having the baccalaureate, would that pose a problem or cause disqualification?
September 28, 2024 at 09:54
No problem.
September 28, 2024 at 03:27
: ) Hello. I have a question about the medical examination. I see that we have to show the doctor our up-to-date vaccination record. I’ve looked at the list of vaccinations required and I see that a Covid 19 vaccination within the last 12 months is required. Is this vaccine still compulsory for DV2025? Thank you in advance.
September 28, 2024 at 09:51
Yes. It is required for immigrants.
September 28, 2024 at 01:30
Hello Simon, i was born in Algeria and have an Algerian passport but i have been living in Qatar for the past 19 years. My country of eligibility would be Algeria. But my question is about my kids eligibility country : they were both born in Qatar hold an Algerian passport and citizenship ly question is their country of eligibility still Algeria? Thanks for you help and dedication.
Best regards.
September 28, 2024 at 09:49
Only the person submitting the entry has to think about eligibility. You list everyone with THEIR place of birth. If you win with your kids as derivatives, they will be charged to your country of chargeability – Algeria.
September 27, 2024 at 21:04
Hi Simon DV2024,I did my medical 3rd June 2024 and planning to travel in November 2024 is this ok so as to reach on time?
September 28, 2024 at 00:52
The visa expiry date is on your visa.
September 27, 2024 at 19:46
Hey Mr simon , thankfully landed safely at US.
Can I open a bank account here without the physical SSN and GC ?
As the officer mentioned his stamp on my passport works as the SSN and GC until I receive it.
Thanks a lot for your continuous inputs for enlightening us regarding the process.
September 28, 2024 at 00:52
Welcome. You can, but each bank will have a different policy.
September 27, 2024 at 16:13

Hi Brit
Am a bit worried about my CN 2025AF58K embassy Yaounde. I watch one of your video which you mentioned that, there are some CN in DV2024 which when compared with the same CN in DV2025 the one of DV2025 is higher even though they are the same CN. Can this be in thems of selectees?
With my CN do i the chance to be interviewed and please when can i be called for interview. Am asking because i to go in for DV2026
Thanks Boss
September 28, 2024 at 00:49
It is very early to be making guesses, but your number should be OK. We will know more in january.
September 27, 2024 at 12:14
Hello Brit
After receiving the 2nl
Do we have to contact our embassy via email or direct call .
I am confused that I saw some videos on YouTube ,to contact the embassy we are to be interviewed, in order to make sure and to ask information like specific requirements…
September 28, 2024 at 00:49
Read and follow the instructions, including the embassy instructions.
September 28, 2024 at 10:05
Where could I find the embassy instruction?
It’s Addis Ababa embassy
September 28, 2024 at 10:11
The link you were originally given has the main instructions, then links to embassy specific instructions and the reciprocity page. You should have read ALL of that!

Hi Simon, my CN is 2025AF86*** and residing in Ankara (originally from Sudan). From following your channel I know ANK is a horrible post. I can access either Kuwait or Brazil without visa issues but only for 90 days (so can’t relocate there indefinitely and change my address) the plan right now is to use the newer FAM rule and request change of post.
So here are my questions:
1- should I move my case from ANK now or later in the year?
2- do you recommend one of these two posts over the other (KWT vs RDJ)?both had great performances in 2024
3- I made an appointment for a B2 visa before I won the lottery and that appointment is now approaching, should I even bother going to that appointment or is it almost always a refusal if you have a pending DS-260? Btw I didn’t mention the DS-260 in the DS-160 because I filled it before the DV results.
Thanks!
September 28, 2024 at 00:48
1. Later, you have plenty odf time to decide where to move the case
2. No.
3. Your choice. Denial is not a certainty, it depends on the CO believing you will return home.
September 27, 2024 at 11:51
Hi Simon
“Thank you so much for your support in helping me get my DV visa. Your guidance and assistance made the process so much smoother, and I truly appreciate the time and effort you put into helping me. I couldn’t have done it without you!” You told me to be patient and truely I have seen issued today from Ready to 221g .2024AF544***** Nairobi.🙏. Let me know how I can support any share my experience
September 28, 2024 at 00:46
Nice!
September 27, 2024 at 11:01
Good day,
My passport will expire in 6 months time, Am I still eligible to apply for DV 2026?
Thank you sir
September 28, 2024 at 00:46
Yes.
September 27, 2024 at 07:52
Hi Simon!
Since DV2025 has not yet started and I don’t feel like starting a 2 year long lease before knowing the result I was thinking about subletting the apartment of a friend until next summer. I will be living in the same city although I would not have able to register on my new address.
Do you think this would raise questions from the CO should I be called for an interview?
September 27, 2024 at 09:46
No problem
September 27, 2024 at 07:16
Hello Simon.
I am a DV25 winner with a relatively low CN (EU13xxx). Anyway just to make sure I would like to enter the lottery again for DV26. Will there be any issues for my DV25 selection? Also would you recommend doing it with a relatively low CN anyway?
Thanks and regards and have a nice weekend
September 27, 2024 at 09:46
It won’t cause any problem, so yes – enter again.
September 27, 2024 at 07:10
Hi Brit,
For the DV lottery photo, is it normal to add shine to the photo. Because the photographer added shine to my photo, but I refused, and he tells me that it will not cause a problem. Is this true?
September 27, 2024 at 09:45
I think you mean using glossy photo paper. That is not a reason for denial.
September 27, 2024 at 18:52
He took the picture, and he said it was a little dark, so he adjusted the brightness.
September 27, 2024 at 07:03
Hello,
Once we have our appointment at our country’s embassy, if English is not our native language, can the conversation with the agent be held in the national language of the country, where the U.S. consulate is located ? I’ll feel more comfortable answering questions in my native language. Thank you : )
September 27, 2024 at 09:40
Yes that is often possible, but trying to speak some English is wise.
September 27, 2024 at 04:48
Hello Brit Simon, a quick one,i have an issue with my names. I have two middle names. How do i capture them on the application form. My full Names are Frankline Daniel Sande Oduor,as appears on my passport.Thank you
September 27, 2024 at 09:38
Have two names in the middle name box.
September 27, 2024 at 03:30
Hi, Brit.
My host is in Minnesota but I want spend a little time in Rhode Island with my aunt before going to minesota. So I bought my ticket for Rhode Island, Will this be any issues for me at the port of entry sine I didn’t go straight to minesota?
September 27, 2024 at 09:37
No
September 27, 2024 at 03:18
Hi Simon.. 2025AF4K+,Accra Ghana. Ds-260 submitted on 5th May 2024. Is there a chance to be interviewed before February next year? And are the recently dropped 2NL’s for October or November interviews?? Help.
September 27, 2024 at 09:37
It is difficult to predict exactly how Accra will work.
2NLs have been sent for October AND November.
September 27, 2024 at 01:02
Hi Sir Simon I really appreciate your sacrificial guidance. Please can a derivative photo affect the principal if for example the principal applicant photo meet their requirements and the derivative owns does not. Thank you
September 27, 2024 at 09:36
In some circumstances, yes
September 26, 2024 at 23:10
Hi Brit , one more question would like to ask. As DV2025 winner, i planned to claim my eligibility with work experience. I worked as system admin from Aug 2008 to Nov 2021.
For this statement from state.gov website ” two years of work experience within the past five years in an occupation that requires at least two years of training or experience to perform “, two years experience of past five years counting is start backwards from DV application date or DV winning date or DS260 applying date or Interview date with Embassy case officer ? Thank you in advance.
September 26, 2024 at 23:37
5 years from the interview date.
September 26, 2024 at 22:28
Hi Simon,
Im one of a seletecc , holding case number around 2024AS291xx
Is there any chance i will be called for interview since I havent receive any contact from them yet.
September 26, 2024 at 23:36
No chance at all.
September 26, 2024 at 21:53
Hi Simon. Amazing to see Great Britain is included this time – I have a question regarding this. I was born in the UK but am married to a Kiwi. I can therefore enter both of us either the UK draw using my UK passport, with me as the main applicant or the Oceana one with my wife as the main applicant. Do you have any insight as to which region has a greater likelyhood of success?
Cheers,
Matt
September 26, 2024 at 23:36
OC region has FAR greater chance of selection.
September 26, 2024 at 20:26
Hi Brit, Thank u so much for all the information.
My case is currently current with USCIS and originally my bio metrics were scheduled for October 11, 2024 for which I was confused because of the fiscal year deadline. I went ahead and rescheduled my appt and did a walk-in on Monday the 23th. I was connected with an agent on the phone and I stated my concern for the deadline and their response was “as long as your case is being process, you don’t have to worry about the deadline,” and I was left confused. Please do you have any information regarding cases with USCIS being processed even after the 30th?
September 26, 2024 at 23:35
Assuming that is a DV case, no, that is not possible.
September 26, 2024 at 20:13
Hi Brit , can i ask for the name issue ? I am 2025 DV winner . In DS260 , I have filled up my name as Surnames as Zhi Hau Lim ( as per my passport ) but Given name as NFN ( no first name ). Will there be any issue with my interview and as well as in Green card?
September 26, 2024 at 23:34
I cannot predict the outcome.
September 26, 2024 at 20:11
Hi Simon, I hope this message finds you well. We are so grateful for the guidance and support you rendering to us. It is really appreciated. May you be bless abundantly. Alhamdulilah I have received my 2NL today and already process my appointment registration.
I have a question, once I have scheduled for an appointment and confirm the date with the embassy on their website and printed out the instruction page, do I in any means have to send my documents in advance to KCC or do I have to wait till the interview date and go along with original and copies?
Thank you.
September 26, 2024 at 23:34
You present documents at the interview.
September 26, 2024 at 20:07
hello Sir , am 2024 WINNER AF18K i i feel very bad i wnet for interview on january 08 2024 fully prepared with required document , i was placed under 221g i kept sending emails and calling them every single month more 10 email up to 10 phone calls , and i was not asked to submit any further document , they keep telling me to wait and keep check ceac status today is 2nd to the last day of DV2024 ending i called and email yet no response , do you think i was treated fairly ? from senegal dakar ?
September 26, 2024 at 23:33
I have no idea of the particulars of your case, so I cannot say whether it was fair or not.
September 26, 2024 at 18:03
Hi, i am from North Macedonia,Europe and my case numer is 34XXX, do you think i have a chance for interview in 2025 ?Thank you.
September 26, 2024 at 23:32
Maybe – we will know better in January.
September 26, 2024 at 16:35
Hi Simon, how are you?
Just to be sure – 2024as17k, got my visa two weeks ago, I can viait the US on Jan 24 (was told medical is valid until Fev), go back home, then actually relocate on August 25, without any issues and additional paperwork? less than 6 months until the first visit to “activate” the visa, then additional 5 months for actual relocation is ok? thanks for everything
September 26, 2024 at 23:30
Yes
September 26, 2024 at 13:40
Hi Brit,
I am completing the ds 260 form now but I don’t have my passport yet as my CN is low 2025AFxxxx368 can I submit the form without providing information related to the passport? Thank you for your time
September 26, 2024 at 14:34
Yes, you can use another national ID (there is an option in the DS260)
September 26, 2024 at 13:30
Dear Britsimon,
Does dependent visas count toward 55000 visas or its 55000 cases, For example if someone has 10 kids does that mean they took 10 visas from 55000 or its only 1 case and dependent visas doesnt count toward 55000 case?
September 26, 2024 at 14:33
Dependents count towards the cap.
September 26, 2024 at 13:03
Hey Simon, I am currently outside the US since I am finishing up my Bachelor’s degree. I had done my activation trip and the address I had put is that of my host’s. Will he be able to receive the green card once it arrives on my behalf or will I have to be there?
Thank you.
September 26, 2024 at 14:33
It will be delivered with or without you there.
September 26, 2024 at 06:04
Hi Brit. 2025EU17k. I heard you say EU in 2025 is not similar to previous years. In 2024, this number became current in April VB. I know no CEAC data yet. However, best educated guess – May/June 2025?
September 26, 2024 at 08:03
Yes, maybe sooner.
September 26, 2024 at 14:38
hello simon,
i have a question. when i applied for dv 2025 and filled the form for me and my wife i made a mistake of one letter in my wifes surname which is the same as mine.
i didnt know that until we have been selected. i saw it first when i entered the ds 260 page (first page where you select each member and fill the ds 260).
i wrote to kcc and asked them if they could change that and they said they cant, and that i need to write the correct surname of my wife in the ds260 itself.
now after getting 2nl i see that aplicant name is correct(me) but my wife surname is with the wrong letter as it was in the initial dv lottery form that we filled in 2023.
the only place her surname is correct is in the ds260 form and the confirmation page of ds 260 (the page with the barcode)
technically on the day of the interview they can say at the embassy its not her according to 2nl (at the gate)
is this mistake can lead to denial or what important is the info in the ds260 itself?
thank you
September 26, 2024 at 23:30
That’s OK, the important thing is the DS260
September 26, 2024 at 02:16
Hello Simon,
I’ve also received a second email with a link to check the “ESC” website, but when I check it is still the same letter. (AF2025xxx50), it was sent about 12 hours ago last night. will it change? what is happening?
Thank you,
September 26, 2024 at 08:02
Hopefully it will be resolved today
September 26, 2024 at 13:02
hi simon,
can you please tell me if the photos that i need to bring to the medical examination are the same size photos that i should bring to the interview?
medical examination photos are described as passport photos and the required photos for the interview at the embassy are described as us visa photos which is 5*5 cm.
in my country passport photos are refered to smaller photos than us visa photos so i want to be sure i will bring the right size photos to the medical exam.
thanks
September 26, 2024 at 14:32
Use US visa size photos.
September 26, 2024 at 14:10
Hello,
I got my 2nl about 22 hours ago. It just updated now on ESC page. It is normal thing. Check it again from time to time until it shows up.

Hi Simon
A quick question here, I was selected for DV 2025, AF25K. Can I use the same photo I used for Dv2025 to apply for Dv2026? Secondly can applying lead to disqualification?

The instructions specifically say NOT to do that.

“SANNEH, MALANG:You have received this email notification to inform you that you have updates available at https://dvprogram.state.gov/ESC. Please log in using your confirmation number from your original application to complete further processing.”
