Isent the application, but I forgot to save the confirmation number🤦🏻♀️
November 5, 2024 at 04:46
I didn’t even take a screenshot.
November 5, 2024 at 07:18
Hi,
Don`t worry. As you can check on DV ESC page, there is the “forgot confirmation number” option, where there are steps to recover the thing. Do that in May, or whenever they put the results online and you will be just fine.
November 5, 2024 at 07:39
Thank you
November 5, 2024 at 08:22
That’s OK, with a few details you will later be able to recover your confirmation number.

Hi Simon,
My picture is 600 x 600 and 96 dpi…file size is 40kb.
When i use the photo tool it shows a green tick and that the file is 600×600 and does not need to be cropped. Do you think file size of 40KB is too small?
November 5, 2024 at 08:21
It’s OK

Hi Mr. Simons,
My name as appears in passport is:
Surname: Castillo Matis Ferreira da Pereira (34 characters long)
Given name: José Carlos
MRZ: P<PRTC<MA<FERREIRA<DA<PEREIRA<<JOSE<CARLOS
When filling the DV-2026 lottery I am having trouble as the Last Name/Family Name field only takes 33 characters. And my surname is 34 characters.
1) How should I write my surname? (leave out the last character? move the first surname to middle name field, write as shown on passport MRZ?..)
Also. My Given name is José Carlos. In Portugal is common two have two first names and middle name is not a thing you hear in Portugal
2) Should I write the two given names, José Carlos, under first name section, or move Carlos to middle name section.
3) Should I write José with the mark on E (é) or just Jose without the mark?
Thank you
November 5, 2024 at 08:21
1. Yes, omit the final character.
2. Your choice

Hi Simon,
DV lottery instructions states the photo must be .JPG. However I submit .JFIF, which I understand is same thing but slightly different. Is that a problem?
If the file extension is that important, is that mean I can make new submitting with the new file extension- will that make new application?
Thank you!
November 5, 2024 at 08:18
You cannot submit a bew entry. I don’t know if their system will treat the photo as a jpeg or not.
November 5, 2024 at 01:24
I have a newborn but haven’t registered her in the household registry yet, so I didn’t include her information on the application form. Is there a way to add her information?
If I win the lottery, can I still add it, or would it be considered invalid?”
November 5, 2024 at 08:17
If you completed the DV lottery entry and did not include the baby that was already born at that time, then you have screwed up your entry. You would be disqualified at interview if selected.
November 4, 2024 at 21:55
Hi Simon, If I apply as wife and put my husband and our son which will turn 19 end of this month under my application and then my husband applies separately and put me as a wife and our same son under his application and we are legally married, would it be ok with the DV lottery rules
November 5, 2024 at 08:16
Yes
November 4, 2024 at 21:23
Hi Simon , I hope you’re doing well. I have a question regarding my birth details for the DV 2026 application. Both my birth certificate and passport only mention the country of birth as Bahrain, without specifying a city. When filling out the application, what should I enter in the field asking for the city of birth?
November 5, 2024 at 08:15
The city if known.
November 4, 2024 at 17:53
Britsimon,
I submitted my entry and clicked the backward button to do an entry for my wife.
It gave me a message that duplicate entries are not allowed.
However it should be clear that I had finished with mine and was going back to start a new entry.
I guess my mistake was not closing the tab.
Does it mean that my entry was disqualified?
November 5, 2024 at 08:13
No – it is fine.
November 4, 2024 at 17:10
Hello Mr. Simons,
A quick question.
I have two daughters but with separate women. The first, who is in Ghana, I had her from an unmarried relationship but I am no longer together with the mother for over 15 years. I have solely supported this daughter since till date.
Since I was not married with the mother and we did not undergo any formal divorce. We have just separated. I have no document to prove that a divorce or marriage in the past with this lady.
If I include this daughter of mine in Ghana in the DV 2026 application with my current wife with whom I am legally married and we have a little girl, will there be any issue if I am selected to prove divorce or past marriage relationship with my daughter in Ghana’s mother?
Thank you in advance and God bless you for the great work you are doing.
November 5, 2024 at 08:10
You must include that child, and if asked you explain you were unmarried. That is totally normal.
November 5, 2024 at 11:27
Thank you very much and blessings.
November 4, 2024 at 14:57
Will just by merely entering the DV lottery count as imigrant intent? Therefore making it harder to get non-imigrant visas (i.e. J1, F1) or ESTA applications?
November 4, 2024 at 15:10
No.
Immigrant intent suspicion is increased by completing the DS260 after winning.
November 4, 2024 at 09:28
Will the J-1 two-year home residency requirement lead to DV Lottery rejection during interview?
November 4, 2024 at 15:03
If you cannot complete the requirement in time for the DV process to complete, then you would need to ask for a waiver – and those are not always agreed.
November 4, 2024 at 19:30
Could you please advise me? My two-year home residency requirement for my J-1 visa (from a 15-day visit to the U.S.) will be completed on July 13, 2025. My case number is AS9xxx.
Should I apply for a waiver, or would it be better to wait for my case number to become current and postpone the interview date, given that my case number likely won’t be current soon?
Thank you!
November 5, 2024 at 08:14
I would have the interview in the normal time and the CO could either issue a waiver, or put you on on 221g until July.
November 4, 2024 at 19:35
Will KCC reject my DS-260 due to the unfulfilled J-1 requirement, or is this assessed during the interview?
November 5, 2024 at 08:15
KCC have no authority to reject a case.
November 6, 2024 at 11:03
When you say “need to ask for a waiver,” do you mean obtaining a waiver from the State Department or requesting it from the Consular Officer during the interview?
Thank you!
November 7, 2024 at 06:40
CO
November 4, 2024 at 07:54
Hi Brits thanks so much for your continuous support.
2025AF11*** i email KCC to unlock my DS260 which they did and I have successfully updated my address(a different country) and submitted the forms. I email KCC to request for change of interview location to new location and this was the responses from KCC. I just want to find out whether If I should be worried with their response.
Thank you for your inquiry.
Once the DS-260 for the Principal Applicant has been submitted, the interview location can only be updated by the Kentucky Consular Center (KCC). Please send your request to [email protected] with the physical address which you will be present at during the time of your interview. Unless the applicants are in the U.S. and adjusting status, all applicants on the case will be scheduled for interview with the Principal Applicant. You should contact the U.S. Embassy or Consulate directly to arrange separate interviews, if needed.
If your interview has already been scheduled, you must contact the U.S. embassy or consulate to request a transfer of your case. The U.S. embassy or consulate will determine if it accepts your case for transfer.
November 4, 2024 at 15:02
No need to worry.
November 4, 2024 at 02:55
hi Simon, I don’t seem to find a proper white background. What is an off-white background as an option to white background
November 4, 2024 at 14:20
That means very light gray or similar.
November 3, 2024 at 22:26
Please could changing of previous email and address line affect my application from been selected

Hi Brit,
My case is current since August and expecting 2NL between November and December. I am currently in Canada on a temporary PGWP. Can I schedule my interview here? If yes please assist me with guidance. Thanks 🙏
November 4, 2024 at 14:19
If you expect to be in Canada for the time being, then yes, you can ask to switch your interview to Montreal.
November 3, 2024 at 18:56
Hi Simon,
I already have an interview date and I was wondering if there is a submission place for the I-134 form or if I just should have it in hand in case its requested at the interview.
Thanks for all your help.
November 4, 2024 at 14:15
Handed in *if requested* at the interview.
November 3, 2024 at 15:28
Hi Brit Simon, thank you very much for all this great work.
1. At what stage in the DV process is the OMB Control Number assigned to the DS-260, and what is its significance in the process?
2. What is the meanning of ” YOUR CASE IS CURRENTLY AT: KCC “?
November 4, 2024 at 14:15
1. It only relates to the management of the form itself and has not significance in the process.
2. It means the case has not been scheduled, the embassy knows nothing about that case.
November 3, 2024 at 13:08
Hello,
As I mentioned a few days ago, I was at the interview, there was a hiccup with some missing info and I am in 221g. I sent the bloody things to the embassy in Bucharest and in the “guidelines” there was mentioned that there MUST be some kind of cartooned envelope 30x25x5 in dimensions.
I couldn`t find such an envelope in the whole city. Every shop I entered an asked about such a thing was amazed by my request.
The postal company that is managing the service to return the documents at the embassy was the only one that had the stupid envelope, but even that was not 100%. It was something like 34,5x24x_whatever – not a box as embassy requested.
It was said in the guidelines that they will refuse it if is not exactly as they request. In my opinion this in mindblowing_next_level_stupidity.
Did anyone encountered such a …. diverse experience with special envelopes?
Thank you
November 3, 2024 at 14:08
Never heard of it.
November 4, 2024 at 03:57
Hi Brits? Though am a DV 2025 Winner and my Case is Current,I yesterday applied for DV2026, but made a mistake on my names.
My names are MUTETI, Raphael Kioko, but my confirmation page came with MUTETI, Raphael Muteti.
So my family name appeared twice instead of my middle name.
Question, how do I correct this if I win again and will this affect my current situation because am already scheduled for an interview? Thanks.
Ralph.
November 4, 2024 at 14:22
It won’t affect the DV2025 case. If you are selected again and need to process, you can sort it out then.
November 3, 2024 at 10:56
Hi – I have dual citizenship from France and UK. The latter was through naturalisation recently. I won the GC a couple of years back with French application, sent my documents but did not get an interview. Learned that Uk is eligible now for DV lottery (it wasn’t when I checked a couple of years ago). Is there a better chance to try with the UK now ?
November 3, 2024 at 14:06
Well your entry is based on place of birth, not citizenship.
But UK and France have the exact same chance of selection.

Hi sir, I’m a DV lottery winner 2025AF32k Cameroon Embassy. When will I likely get my interview?
November 3, 2024 at 14:09
I don’t know.
November 3, 2024 at 03:51
Hello Simon. I have been applying for dv lottery since 2011. Have never been selected yet. I got my picture clicked as per the specifications, just wanted to know is there a way to get my picture checked?
November 3, 2024 at 10:12
Use the official photo tool and check the instructions.
Not getting selected in 10+ years is not unusual.

Can the main applicant enter the USA with one beneficiary and the other beneficiary follow afterwards?
Can the beneficiaries follow after the main applicant has entered the usa?

1) My picture is 800 x 800 and 400 dpi. Is that ok?
2) On my birth certificate it has (First name) (Middle name) (Fathers last name) (Mothers last name) but on my passport it only has (First name) (Fathers last name). I also got an L1A visa a long time ago with my passport name. Which one should I enter with? Thanks
November 3, 2024 at 10:10

November 2, 2024 at 19:27
Hello Simon
I´m currently preparing my DV Entry 2026.
1) How should I type my surname?: Let´s say my surname as shown in the upper text part of the passport is hyphenated e.g. Smith-Cane (but Smith>Cane>> in the MRZ). I`m used to spell it WITHOUT the hyphen (“Smith Cane”) on any ESTA, TSA, Flight Booking as the hyphen sometimes caused troubles before. Someone advised me to always write it as shown in the MRZ (means without hyphen) and since then there had never been any issues.
Do I write “Smith-Cane” OR “Smith Cane” (MVZ spelling) as a surname in the DV entry (or would both spellings be fine )?
2) first name/ middle name: Before getting married I had a first and a middle name or 2 first names (NOT hyphenated) – nobody ever defined if the 2nd is a middle or another first name, only my Grandmother called me with the 2nd name. Both names appeared in the passport (upper text part) but only the first of it was shown in the MVZ. Today (since being married) the new passports show both names in the text part AND the MRZ. To avoid troubles with flights and immigration, I generally write both names under “first name/s” in ESTA, TSA, flight booking etc. since then (to be safe it matches the MVZ), and no middle name. Never got problems with that
How should I place my 2 names in the DV entry please ? first name: Name1 Name2 & no middle name (as on any trips) Or first name: Name1 und middle name: Name2 ?
Thanks for help
November 3, 2024 at 10:08
1. Smith Cane
2. first name: Name1 und middle name: Name2

Hi BritSimon!
Question about education please.
We are from the UK. My son (20years) is applying in his own right. He left school at 16 with GCSE’s, 2 years at college studying catering and hospitality to NVQ level 2. Now currently doing an apprenticeship and studying NVQ level 3 whilst working as a shift manager at a well known fast food company. He’s lovin it! The Level 2 NVQ is equivalent to 4-5 GCSE, grades A through C. The Level 3 NVQ is equivalent to two A Levels. What does he answer on the education? Vocational college? I think the shift manager role counts as an occupation but although he has worked in the company for 3 years he only been in that actual role for a few months. Don’t want to get it wrong for him!
Thanks
November 3, 2024 at 10:05
OK, so firstly what choice you pick on the entry doesn’t matter, it is not used for screening/selection of the applicants.
Second. Vocational education is not considered toward the education requirements (only academic course are counted), so the NVQ should not meet the requirements (assuming the COs understand it as vocational).
Feel free to apply for him, but I don’t think he can qualify if he is selected.
Third. The shift manager job probably does not meet the work experience requirement, as it is not a job that would require 2 years of training or experience to be hired into that role.

I am winner of DV 2025 but my nationality is Bangladesh that is a country non-eligible for DV but i upplay form italy and i have Italian citizenship now my question is can i have a change for the interview? If not why the select me for the dv?
November 3, 2024 at 09:59
As part of your application I assume you entered your birth country in question 5 and then chose Italy as country of chargeability.
There are only two ways that was valid.
1. If you were married to an Italian born spouse.
2. If one of your parents was Italian born, and the other was not not born in Bangladesh.
If neither of those exceptions are true, then you will be disqualified if you choose to attend the interview.
November 2, 2024 at 07:12
Hey Brit Simon,
I heard you mention recently in a video you made where you completed a practice application that certain countries will have a higher chance of selection than others, e.g. if you have a spouse from Australia you would have a better chance of selection than some other countries if you were to choose Australia as your country of eligibility. I am a British citizen specifically from Northern Ireland and as I’m sure you’re aware the UK hasn’t been eligible for the DV program until DV2026 but in previous years an exception had been made for Northern Ireland, I presume because NI is so small and immigration to the US is likely very low that this exception was made. As Northern Ireland is obviously part of the United Kingdom I could choose either, I am curious as to whether you think there is a better chance for me choosing Northern Ireland than the United Kingdom just like you mentioned there is a better chance with Australia than some other countries.
What factors make a country of eligibility more or less likely of selection? 🇺🇸🇦🇺🇬🇧
Sorry the message is quite long.
I appreciate you taking the time to read and respond to these! 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
November 1, 2024 at 20:08
hello Simon,
Despite thoroughly reviewing multiple times the Entry Instructions on the official website (https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/immigrate/diversity-visa-program-entry/diversity-visa-instructions.html), I am still uncertain about the correct format for my name and request your help to ensure my application is submitted accurately.
So, I want to concisely outline here my confusion about names.
My name : Mohamed Bahjee
My father name : Badurdeen
In my passport (please see the attachment), Badurdeen is mentioned as Surname and Mohamed Bahjee is mentioned as Other Name.
However, The 2026 Diversity Visa Program (DV-2026) online application (please see the attachment) requires three (3) types of names, as outlined below:
1. Last/ Family Name
2. First Name
3. Middle Name
Therefore, I kindly request that you please advise me as soon as possible for my following questions.
1. Which name can I fill up as Last/ Family Name based on my passport ?
2. Which name can I fill up as First Name based on my passport ?
3. Which name can I fill up as Middle Name based on my passport ?
Thanks for your prompt attention.
November 2, 2024 at 09:58
1. Badurdeen
2. Mohamed
3. Bahjee

Can someone who’s older than 13 years me write sworn affidavit of my date of birth?? He’s US citizen
November 1, 2024 at 18:45
I dont know. That would depend on laws in your country.
November 1, 2024 at 13:33
Hello Simon,
I am writing regarding my Diversity Visa interview, scheduled for November 6th. Unfortunately, due to an unexpected delay from the government’s side, one of my required documents will not be ready by the interview date.
Could you kindly advise if it would be possible to request a postponement of the interview date? If rescheduling is not an option, I would like to understand the best course of action given the circumstances.
Thank you very much for your assistance!
November 1, 2024 at 14:45
It would probably be best to attend the interview and be placed on 221g until you provide the missing document.
November 1, 2024 at 11:40
Hello Simon, I had previously asked you about whether it would be an issue staying outside the US for about 9 months as I have to complete my Bachelor’s degree in my current country of residence and you said it wouldn’t be a problem. Could you please expand on that and perhaps give me some information (reference to established rules etc.) that would state that this wouldn’t pose a problem? Since I do not want to put my residency status at risk, though I am aware that this program creates for a unique situation.
Thank you loads for all the help!
November 1, 2024 at 14:43
I don’t tell people to do things that would put their residency status at risk.
If you want another source, you can google the information from USCIS that describes the rules about absences.
November 1, 2024 at 08:58
Good day Simon.
Is makeup of any form allowed?
E.g Foundation, lipstick, powder
November 1, 2024 at 08:09
Any form.of makeup allowed: foundation, powder, lipstick
November 1, 2024 at 08:33
Yes, you can wear makeup, BUT be careful to go very light with the makeup so as not to change your appearance in any significant way.
November 1, 2024 at 07:03
Hello Simon!
I’ve watched the video you posted recently about medical insurrance in the US and the options to get insured in the beginning when entering the US.
My question is, is there something similar to this for a liability insurance? I think its important to have one so I was wondering if you have any experiences or know something about it. Maybe you even have a suggestion.
Thanks a lot and have a good day!
November 1, 2024 at 08:00
I haven’t focused on that because it is something that won’t be a concern for most immigrants immediately, but it’s a good idea to have that as you build your assets.
November 1, 2024 at 03:27
Hi Brit. Stupid question here…My 1 year old child has her mouth open on all pictures we’ve taken for the entry. Do you think that might cause a disqualification?? We’ve tried taking different pictures but she’s either smiling or has her mouth open all the time
November 1, 2024 at 08:01
No problem.
November 1, 2024 at 00:41
Hi, BritSimon
I have a worry.
On my birth certificate, my mom’s date of birth is 1968..no month or day. So on my ds260 I filled 4th of August 1968, as she told me. Would that cause me a denial of visa during interview?
November 1, 2024 at 08:01
No
October 31, 2024 at 16:43
Can someone who’s older than 13 years me write sworn affidavit of my date of birth??
November 1, 2024 at 08:02
I don’t know what requirements there would be in your country.
November 1, 2024 at 13:00
I mean they’re US citizen
October 31, 2024 at 14:56
Hey Brit Simon,
When filling out my application for DV2026 do I select “High School education-No degree” or “High School education-Degree” as I have completed a high school education in the UK (Northern Ireland to be precise) and have achieved 8 GCSEs and also did an additional two years of A-Level education achieving 3 A-Levels (one of which is different to a normal A-Level).
Do these meet the definition of “Degree” or is that different?
November 1, 2024 at 08:04
No it is not a degree – but your answer on that question makes no difference to your chances, so don’t stress over it.
November 1, 2024 at 20:42
Thank you Brit Simon!!
Just out of curiosity what does meet their definition of a “High School education-Degree”?
November 2, 2024 at 09:58
There are some countries where a “degree” is issued after completion of “High School”.
November 2, 2024 at 21:18
I just thought a “degree” was another word they were using for qualifications which could include GCSEs and/or A-Levels.
I don’t mean to sound stupid here, so just clarifying the UK is not a country that issues a “degree” upon the completion of “high school” and so GCSEs and/or A-Levels don’t count as a “degree”?
November 3, 2024 at 10:08
Correct
October 31, 2024 at 14:42
Hello Simon!!!
I have tried to email the embassy about the remaining family member visas through visa navigator yesterday and they replied me today as follow:
“The Contact Desk Support Team (U.S Visa and Consular Services)
Dear Applicant,
We apologize for any inconvenience. Thank you for providing your information. We have escalated this case to the appropriate department. This case will be investigated and you will be notified after the issue is resolved.
Thank you for your patience,
The Contact Center”
is it ok or what?
November 1, 2024 at 08:05
It’s OK.
October 31, 2024 at 10:54
Hello Simon,
First thank you so much for the wealth of information you provide to DV applicants. Your videos and commentaries are very helpful to those in the process!
My brother was selected for the 2025 DV. His number is in the low 23,000s from Africa. We submitted the DS260 in May as soon as we found out. We still have not heard back about interview scheduling. We just emailed KCC to check in.
Wondering if you have any recommendations for what to do next? Or if this sounds normal to you at this stage?
Thank you again!
October 31, 2024 at 14:29
Its normal. His number is not current yet, so all he needs to do at the moment is wait.
October 31, 2024 at 08:49
Hi BritSimon, I plan to have my green card and social security card forwarded to me when my relative in NY received them. Which courier would you say is the safest choice? For reference, I live in Japan.
October 31, 2024 at 10:32
Probably Fedex
October 31, 2024 at 07:46
Hey Britt Simon,
I’ve been following you for a couple of years now. First, thank you for the tremendous work you’re doing for DV applicants.
I’ve watched most of your videos, especially those related to DV lottery photo requirements and tutorials. I do have one concern, though. I’ve read all the requirements for the DV photo, but I still have doubts about using background removal. I know that travel.state.gov doesn’t explicitly ban software for removing the background, but they advise taking the picture against a plain white or off-white background (without any texture or gloss), as you demonstrated in one of your videos.
Since this DV lottery photo is the same as the one a U.S. citizen would submit for a passport, I’m concerned that background removal (even if it doesn’t alter the appearance of the applicant) might be a reason for disqualification.
If you look at various forums or Reddit, people share stories of photo rejections, many of which are due to background editing.
Additionally, I’d like to know if you have plans to create a DV lottery photo checker. There are plenty online, but I don’t think they’re reliable, as they often point out “defects” in photos just to promote their products. Unfortunately, the only tool provided on travel.state.gov is only for cropping the image and doesn’t give clear feedback on background compliance or on head-size and image height ratio.
I would greatly appreciate your opinion, as you have the best expertise in the DV lottery process. Thanks in advance.

I firmly believe background editing is fine as long as it is done well and does not alter the image of the subject in *any* way.
I have known many many **MANY** cases (including my own) that had removed backgrounds and got selected.
I have never heard a reliable account of a refusal at interview because someone edited a background, and never even heard that as a question raised at an interview.
I don’t currently have a plan to develop a photo tool, although I have “endorsed” a couple of tools in my videos and re-review the tools each year as technology advances.

Hi Brit, what marital status should I choose in my case that I haven’t married or any legal married certificate and live separately from my partner, but I have a child with him which her birth certificate listed her father too?

Unmarried. Make sure you include the child, and if your partner enters he must also include the child.

Hi Simon, US date format is mm/dd/yy in our country we use UK format dd/mm/yy. Since dv photo have meta data that shows some date, for example 01/10/2024 (UK format) can it be flagged by the dv system as a photo that is older than 6 months since in the US that format would mean that photo was taken in January 10th 2024?

Hello there, thanks for all the assistance you’ve been rendering. I wish to know what’s the fate of a person who applied for dv 2026 with a photo without the persons neck visible on the photo. Can this possible make the application to be disqualified? Because from the photo instructions there’s nowhere it says the neck should be visible am just curious. Thanks

Dear BritSimon,
I have 2 children 16 and 21 year old, do i need to mention the older daughter and does she need to have a photo etc.?, to enter for a dv lottery
October 30, 2024 at 12:19
If she is already 21 you do NOT include her in the DV entry and couldn’t go with you if you win.

Greetings Brit, just wanna ask if one applied for the dv program with a photo that the person’s neck isn’t visible(wore a black shirt with the neck button unloosed) can that in any way cause a disqualification?

No problem.
Congratulations, no one has ever asked this one before.

If you changed your name in marriage, then the marriage cert shows your legal name . Use that.

Good day Simon.
Is it ok if a husband applies accordingly including wife and children in his application as married while the wife also applies separately including him as a husband with same children details as married
