Dear Brit,
I need your advice.
I informed my host to help me fill the i-134 but he is acting up. I think it because of trump effect. He does not wanna host. I have already used him for my DS260
My interview is coming up and can i change him and also I’m about to do my medicals
Can i use the new address on the medical forms??
Please help. Can this affect me?
February 6, 2025 at 08:08
Hi Brit,
Hope you are doing great.
Please, do you think AF35k might be current in the upcoming VB?
February 5, 2025 at 04:11
Hi Brit Simon, what happened to uk winners in DV25? I can’t find any numbers for winners in the UK? Maybe there were just not enough applicants to actually get a winner? I have applied for DV2026 from the UK and I’m wondering what my chances could be? And will UK be listed under the EU results? Very strange no winners listed in the UK though?
February 5, 2025 at 09:05
I believe the government made a mistake in the selectee number announcement. If there were no winners then GB should have been listed with a Zero. I have had some people tell me they are UK winners. Unfortunately it will be a while before we know for sure.

Hi Sir,
Hope you are doing fine.
I mistakenly selected a wrong date on my date of entry to my school. That’s attendance from September 8, 2014 but I mistakenly selected September 7, 2014. And the I mistakenly selected was on a Sunday. Please, my question is should I ask KCC to unlock my case for correction?
February 5, 2025 at 08:55
No. That is completely unimportant.
February 4, 2025 at 05:51
Hello Brit, first of all I want to thank you for helping so many people during these years.
I have interesting question and maybe other people can recognize themselves.
I am EU citizen working in another EU country for the past 15 months.
I am a freelancer and I pay my taxes in my home country. But however this is not very legal. No need to explain the details, how I can make it legal, etc.
No one knows where I live and work for the past 15 months. In the second country I pay rent and mobile and internet services. The authorities doesn’t know that I even exist.
My question: To avoid confusion and headache, should I mention that I lived here for 15 months? Since, literally no one knows I live and work here except my colleagues. At the same time I keep paying taxes and insurance in my home country.
P.S. I have nothin to hide, just it might become more complicated if I have to provide some documents from here, register, pay taxes with old date, etc.
Thank you. And keep going!
February 4, 2025 at 14:29
The US government is not very interested in how you have arranged matters in that country, but they are interested in hearing the truth rather than lies.
February 5, 2025 at 03:41
Thank you for the quick reply, Brit.
There are no lies. The point is since no one knows I live and work in France, I want to avoid complications and dealing with bureaucracy here, police record and/or any other documents. This is my point. If you didn’t understand me from my post.
Best wishes.
February 5, 2025 at 09:03
I understood. That was why I answered the way I did.
February 4, 2025 at 02:17
Hi brit,
I have some questions for you.
a. How to download file of case number in each 100 for each cosulates?
b. I have researched and found there are almost around 160 cases in Nepal in per 1000. So, how do you predict that around how much cases will fall in this year in Nepal (2023 around 1900) and (1024 around 1750)? And upto which case numbers are at risk on your opinions because you have more experience on this field than others?

I was roaming subreddits where US foreign service officers hangout. This article was shared: https://archive.ph/2025.02.01-201814/https://www.wsj.com/politics/policy/trump-to-order-aid-agency-to-be-put-under-state-department-74120757#selection-5943.0-5943.150
The last paragraph got my attention: “State will also soon announce that it is shutting down consulates and other American diplomatic facilities abroad in Brazil, Germany, France and Italy.”
It’s impossible embassies will be shut down and it’s unlikely FRN will be shut down, but I’m thinking NPL may be shut down in the near future.
February 3, 2025 at 16:18
Hello Simon.Thank you for the good work you’re doing.
I’m dv 2025 winner from Kenya, Nairobi with case number Af38K. Kindly advise me if moving it to Addis Ababa is a good idea now or I wait for a few months first. Thank you sir.
February 3, 2025 at 23:46
You can afford to wait a month to see if NRB get back in the game.
February 4, 2025 at 04:19
Hello Brit. 2025AF31.7K, family of 6 Freetown. I haven’t seen my embassy FTN sending 2nl for March interview. I am thinking of transferring my case to Monrovia.
1. What’s your opinion on transfer of my case?
2. If I transfer my case to Monrovia, will the CO ask for proof to show that I have been residing in Liberia?
3. If I transfer my case to Monrovia, l may process before my derivatives. After my interview, is it possible to retransfer our case to Freetown so my derivatives can do their interview there?
Please I’m waiting for your reply. Thanks
February 4, 2025 at 14:28
1. The number is fine.
2. They might.
3. That is complicating matters. I wouldn’t do that unless really necessary.
February 4, 2025 at 10:56
Thank you

If a DV lottery winner is in the U.S. with legal TPS or Parole status, can she apply for an adjustment of status?
February 3, 2025 at 11:48
Discuss that with an immigration attorney.
February 3, 2025 at 09:04
Hello BritSimon,
I have been selected for DV-2025 with the case number AS14xxx, i wanted to know how to remove derivative applicants (children) from my ds260 IV application form as they are already US citizens.
Thank you.
February 3, 2025 at 09:10
You can do that at the interview with no problem.
February 3, 2025 at 10:08
Okay Thank you.
Should I leave the form unfilled for my US citizen children? And one more thing my spouse name as per her passport doesn’t have a surname I wrote FNU in the surname and the full name in given names will that be a problem as ds-260 shows the name FNU,xxxxxxxx. And I have already submitted long back. Please suggest.
February 3, 2025 at 11:47
For citizen children, you would add them on your DS260 (noting their citizenship), but not create a DS260 for them.
For your wife you have screwed that up. They think her last name is FNU. You need to unlock and correct that.
February 3, 2025 at 07:50
Dear Simon, I am DV Winner AF19K, i have three kids but am planing to travel with 2 only whoever i have filled ds260 for all 3 kids, my question, in the day of interview do i need to go with birth certificate of the kid who is not traveling?
February 3, 2025 at 09:05
Yes.
When do you plan to take the third child?
February 4, 2025 at 02:20
Thank you Simon for your answer, she is still little babe of 9 Month, planning to take her after 3 or 4yrs.
February 4, 2025 at 14:26
OK, but understand the process to take her later will be much slower, more complex, and more expensive.
February 3, 2025 at 04:11
Hi Simon,
My case #: 2025OC16xx, is it safe? Roughly when can I expect the interview?
Appreciate all that you do.
God bless!
February 3, 2025 at 09:04
Probably safe, and interview will be July ish (give or take a month)
February 3, 2025 at 02:35
Hi Brit,
Am Daphine from Uganda, I have applied 4 times for dv lottery now but I’ve not been lucky yet, how do I check out the reason for being left out, and what are my chances of getting the lottery for 2025? …
Please 🙏🙏
February 3, 2025 at 08:58
It is a lottery. In Africa region alone there are typically over 5 million entries, from which about 30,000 entries are selected. So – your chance of selection is probably less than 1 time in 100 years of applying.
February 3, 2025 at 01:15
hi simon when i submit ds-260 i made a mistake by my work experience i said i don’t have 2 years experience how do i correct that
February 3, 2025 at 08:55
Doesn’t matter. Leave it as is.
February 2, 2025 at 23:24
Why are high Case numbers bad when most years for Europe it gets current and last year the cut off was 50,000
February 3, 2025 at 08:54
43k people have been selected in Europe. There are 18K visas available.
What do you think is going to happen?
February 3, 2025 at 23:14
Would it be first come first serve if everyone becomes current, especially if you do AOS? cause I was wonder the assumption you can file whenever you become current regardless and you don’t have to wait for any 2NL if its AOS, so in theory an EU43000 should be fine
February 2, 2025 at 13:02
Hi Brits, thanks for all you do. I am a Ghanaian with case number 2025Af25xxx. I want to inquire about few things;
1. If I happen to transfer my case to another west African country, will the requirement be getting a residents permit?
2. Also, I made a mistake on my DS-260 by saying I attended 1 educational institution which is the institution i attended for my MBA. Do I need to correct that asap?
3. Is my case number safe? Considering the performance of my country’s US embassy over the years and past months.
February 2, 2025 at 13:38
1. Right now I would NOT change from Accra.
2. No – correct that at the interview.
3. Yes
February 2, 2025 at 14:05
Thank you, Simon.
February 2, 2025 at 11:15
Hi Simon,
I hope you’re doing well, and I truly appreciate your help. My case number is AS7XXX, and my designated embassy is Montreal. Based on the spreadsheet, there doesn’t seem to be much progress at this embassy. What would you suggest in this situation? Should I consider changing my address, or is it better to wait?
Thank you very much for your guidance.
February 2, 2025 at 11:44
I would wait for MTL to be honest.
February 2, 2025 at 12:19
Hello Brit,
During what stage of the dv process do i need to renew my passport or do i only need that before traveling?
February 2, 2025 at 13:37
I would do it before the interview…
February 2, 2025 at 16:14
Thank you simon.
February 2, 2025 at 03:39
My Mum accidentally put my passport in the washing machine I used to apply for the DV lottery 2026 if I win and I use a replaced passport will my entry still be valid I’m freaking out rn.
February 2, 2025 at 09:04
The DV lottery entry did not ask any information about your passport. Relax.
February 1, 2025 at 16:58
Hi Simon!
Got 2 questions to ask:
1. I did an online course from another country (UK) and get a Diploma from it. Can that be added to my Educational achievement as well?
2. My original copies of educational certificates & diploma got burnt when our family house burnt down. Should I get the original copies again as one of them is the one from UK as mentioned above?
Thank you
Va
🇫🇯
February 2, 2025 at 09:01
1. It depends how important that course is.
2. See 1
February 1, 2025 at 16:50
eu26xxx Vienna embassy what’s my realistic chance of getting an interview? This year DV seems to be moving faster, will that lower my chances?
February 2, 2025 at 09:01
I believe you have a chance. Yes, better processing by more embassies tends to be an increased risk for higher numbers. Your number isn’t very high though.
February 2, 2025 at 09:54
Hello sir,
I have been watching all your videos,
I am AS20000 winner from Bhutan and my interview location is on Delhi, India.
So, whats your thoughts on this?
And i heard rumors on the embassy’s been shut down for 3 months.
February 2, 2025 at 10:11
DV interviews are held at Mumbai embassy. They are doing OK.
However your case number is somewhat risky.
February 3, 2025 at 04:02
How can i change my interview Location sir?

Hi Brit! DV AOS filed 1st October, current in October, 2025OC4xx. Fingerprints done, case at local field office. Do you see announcement of resignation offers to be large issue to delay/running out of time?
Appreciate everything you do as always – you’re the greatest, thank you 🙂
February 2, 2025 at 08:59
Well your case is already proceeding, so it won’t affect you, but yes if there was a large scale reduction of staff, that would possibly affect DV processing.
February 2, 2025 at 15:37
You’re a saint, thank you very much!
February 4, 2025 at 14:32
Hi Brit,
Sorry, just a follow up.
When you say “is already proceeding, so it won’t affect you”, can you clarify what you mean?
I would have assumed that longer background checks and interview requirements for all green cards could/would still heavily slow down my case, even though I’m already at the field office.
Great news if my case already being at field office is advantageous and I shouldn’t expect too much of a delay, but just want to understand what I’m working with.
Sincerely appreciate your help and advice – you’re awesome, thank you.
February 4, 2025 at 15:46
Your case is well advanced already, and by the time there is any reduction in force, your case will probably have been approved. Relax.
February 1, 2025 at 15:56
Hi Simon, hope you are doing well.
I have my interview in Paris on the 26th of February.
I am gathering the documents I need for the interview and I noticed that in my birth certificate, my mothers name is different to the one I put in my ds260. In my birth certificate, she had my dad’s surname but she later got divorced and no longer has that surname. Is this gonna cause any problems in my interview?
Can I mitigate any potential problems by bringing her original birth certificate and a copy of her passport?
February 2, 2025 at 08:57
It should be OK – do take all the documentation you have to the interview.
February 1, 2025 at 15:17
Hi Simon,
I am a DV 2025 winner on F1 status in the USA, case number AF55k with dependents in my home country. What are your thoughts on AOS or consular process?
February 2, 2025 at 08:56
Your case number will probably become current quite late in the year. AOS would still be possible, but following the Follow to Join process (I-824) would be stressful.
Consular Processing will be more disruptive for you, but your family will interview and be issued with you.
February 1, 2025 at 15:00
Hi Simon.
I am a DV winner 2025, and I already have my visa in my passport. I plan to enter the USA at the beginning of March for 10 days, and I have already paid the green card fee. My questions are:
1. When is it necessary for me to re-enter the country after that?
2. Does the 6-month period required to maintain resident status mean that I have to spend 6 months there by the end of this calendar year?
Thank you in advance!
February 2, 2025 at 08:54
Each absence can theoretically be up to 12 months, but 6 months absences are better. However, you are expected to live in the USA, so if you keep repeating absences one after another, you will eventually be challenged to prove you intend to live in the USA.
February 1, 2025 at 07:24
Hello Simon,
Can you please tell me if the declaration of Financial Support can be filled by someone who is legally emigrant in the US but has not green card nor the American citizenship? If yes, how long does it usually takes to have it?
Thank you for all the enlightenment and support
February 1, 2025 at 10:15
The I-134 should not be completed by someone on a non immigrant visa.
February 1, 2025 at 02:41
Hi Simon
I hope you can help me to clear some stuff:
To keep the greencard you should be not away from the US more than 6 months (12 max),
To have a chance for neutralization, you have to spend 30 months in the US in the last 5 years , without staying abroad more than 12 months.
And what about the US address? I did not see that if you need any address..
Maybe i ll only move to the US 13 months after the GC activation, but we will travel to the US in that time, we will be not away for more than 6 months, so could we have any problem with that?
February 1, 2025 at 10:11
I don’t comment on the naturalization process.
January 31, 2025 at 23:54
Hi BritSimon
I asked you last week in the live session about transferring my case , AF250xx to Addis Ababa from Nairobi. Do you think is now advisable to transfer my case now that Nairobi has not send 2nls for January, February and possibly March?
February 1, 2025 at 10:09
Yes
February 1, 2025 at 18:05
Hello Simon!
In today’s YouTube live, you used a spreadsheet about case numbers in each 1000 for all consulates. Would it be possible to get the link to this document please (maybe in the description of the YouTube video)?
Merci beaucoup!

Hi Sir,
Hope you are doing great.
Please, doing the 2025 DV lottery entry period, I used a phone number belonging to my sister because my number wasn’t active since I had a phone problem. Now that I got selected, Is it advisable to mention the same number on my DS-260 since it was previously used during the entry period? Or can I use my number now instead of her number??
Thanks.
February 1, 2025 at 10:09
Doesn’t matter at all.
January 31, 2025 at 15:03
Hi Simon,
I am currently studying in the US and am wondering if it is better to do AOS or counsular processing. My case number is EU14xxx. Where do you think chances are better of getting through?
Thanks so much!
January 31, 2025 at 15:32
I have answered you on Telegram.
January 31, 2025 at 12:28
Hi Simon,
I won the DV Lottery for 2025, and my case number became current in the February 2025 Visa Bulletin, meaning I should have my interview at the U.S. Embassy in March 2025. However, I have not yet received an interview invitation from KCC, and as far as I know, no one in Armenia has received one either, which seems unusual.
Do you have any information about potential delays or issues affecting interview scheduling for Armenian selectees? Also, what should we do if we don’t receive an email from KCC soon?
I’m a bit concerned about possible political changes, such as restrictions on immigration policies. Do you think there’s any risk of such a situation affecting the process?
Thanks for your time and insights!
Best regards,
Dave
January 31, 2025 at 14:23
I don’t have any information above what you have.
January 31, 2025 at 10:58
Hey Simon,
Just a little info if someone from France is asking you about AVITS, their online appointments portal is a lots of issues to book/confirm appointments on it so I called AVITS call center and they said the Paris embassy is aware and they let people in even if appointment is not confirmed online. ( I was worried to be denied access because of this issue)
Thanks
January 31, 2025 at 14:20
Yep – thanks.
February 1, 2025 at 09:46
Do you think embassies could denied access just because people don’t confirmed their appointments on AVITS ?
February 1, 2025 at 10:17
No.
January 31, 2025 at 05:09
Hello Mr Simon, I can not seem to find the answer to this question anywhere so i hope you can help. I was born in England in 1987, while my parents where on a visit visa and not living there, then we moved back to EGypt as my parents are both Egyptain. I choose London as please of brith, ( as per brith certificate) and egypt as chargibilty as i have no legal status in london other then being born there. Now since London is egbilble is it correct that i charged by parents country as i do not have an legal rights in egland or can provide documents besides my brith certificate, which my parents recived on their vistor status.
January 31, 2025 at 08:23
You made a mistake. Eligibility is based on place of birth.
You can try and use the missionary exception (using parents country of birth), but that is normally used when your country of birth is ineligible.
If you choose to peoceed, you should be prepared to prove your parents were only in London temporarily.
January 31, 2025 at 09:40
Many thanks for your reply. May i ask for the future if i choose England, how will i provide all the documentation, edcation, work, if i never lived there all my docuemntation would be egyptian based on my life there. Also, if i choose england that would mean i would have to interview in England correct. My thinking was that all my verification dcouments are from here. If i had choosen london could i have presented documentation from Egypt and interview here. Apologies for the followup question but i want to avoid this for 2027.
January 31, 2025 at 10:06
Also, i have the full paper work that my parents where in England becuase my older brother is special needs they entered on a vistor visa and i have all the visa appeal court docuemnts of the case that was refused to extend their vistor and we required to return to Egypt. Would that work. In your expert opnion if my some mircle i win in 2026, should i proceed with this.
January 31, 2025 at 14:17
If you win, ask again. Until then, its not worth worrying about this.
January 31, 2025 at 14:16
You interview where you live and show education documents from where you were educated. It isn’t complicated, unless you make it complicated.
January 31, 2025 at 04:02
Hello Sir Britsimon,
I hope you’re doing well. I wanted to ask for your opinion on something regarding my DV case because I’m really concerned about it.
When I won the DV lottery in 2024, I tried logging in to access the DS-260 form, but the system kept telling me that my details didn’t match. At the time, I thought someone had stolen my case number, so I emailed KCC to report it and asked what steps I needed to take to retrieve it.
KCC responded by saying that if an applicant submits the DS-260 and later requests to unlock it, they would place a permanent ban on the case. But later, I realized that my case number wasn’t actually stolen—I had just been entering the wrong details. I was supposed to remove some extra “000” from my case number to log in. After getting help, I was finally able to access my DS-260 and fill it out, so I forgot about the issue.
Later, after submitting my DS-260 on May 16, I noticed a typo and requested KCC to unlock it, which they did. This means that the permanent ban they said they will place on it when the DS-260 form is requested for unlocking can be applied since I unlocked it DS-260.
However, my concern now is that my case hasn’t moved past Stage 1, my case number is 24k. Since I submitted my DS-260 early, it should have been processed by now or moved in the processing stages, but it seems stuck at the initial stage. This makes me wonder if KCC actually placed a permanent ban on my case, which is preventing it from being processed.
What do you think I should do to get KCC to remove the ban (if there is one) and start processing my case? Since my DS-260 is still under my control and I am the legitimate applicant, I feel like they should process it. I’d really appreciate your thoughts on this.
Looking forward to your advice.
January 31, 2025 at 08:19
KCC did not say “ban”, they said lock. And clearly they didn’t do that because you have unlocked.
All you need to do is wait.
February 1, 2025 at 04:46
Thank you very much Sir, this is very comforting for me. I Appreciate it.
January 30, 2025 at 23:29
Hi Brits, it’s been 90 days since I entered and activated my GC but USCIS has still not issued it yet. I called their service center and their auto response voice took my case ID which further states that my GC is still under process and will take 120 days for it to be issued. Can you help me understand well because on their website the timeline says 90days but the customer auto response line says 120 days. I’m wondering if the new administration has signed an executive order causing delays or backlogs?
January 31, 2025 at 08:17
Sometimes it takes that long. Patience.
January 31, 2025 at 21:38
ok thank you very much. God bless you
January 30, 2025 at 22:26
Hi Simon,
I hope you are doing well!
I won greencard and migrated to the united state. I have a daughter born after the visa was issued. What the process do I follow to bring my child who was born after I received the visa? I had applied as single, and the mother does not want to travel to the US. I want to activate the status of the child when she is 1 year old using the first time re-entry option. Kindly enlighten me on the process to follow.
January 31, 2025 at 08:15
I already answered you.

January 31, 2025 at 10:27
The question has a different perspective of re-entry
January 31, 2025 at 14:19
I’m not sure that would work, but you can read about that here, but again, you need the mother to give you custody. Maybe you should discuss it with a lawyer.

Hi Simon,
I am a 2025 winner. My case number is EU19XXX. I am from Albania. What are my chances of getting an interview from Kentucky Consular Center (KCC)?
January 31, 2025 at 08:12
Good
January 30, 2025 at 09:42
Hi Brit, I had my interview at the consulate this week and just wondering when should I be paying the USCIS Immigrant Fee?
January 30, 2025 at 10:56
You pay it around the time of your activation trip. Either just before you activate or just after.
January 30, 2025 at 07:38
Hello mr simon
I have 3 weeks in us with dv visa .
I still not get my green card . But im risked of deportation if police stops me because i still dont have a green card .
Thank you
January 30, 2025 at 09:24
No. Your visa/passport is endorsed showing your LPR status. You have no reason to worry.

Hi Simon, I am reaching out to you for my friend from Germany. She wrote to you several weeks ago. She has submitted her DS260 in June and has a relatively low case number (13k something). She wrote KCC yesterday for an update of her DS260. Still again she got the reply it would be still processing.
Anyway, we heard from more and more people with a lot higher case numbers that they have been processed already. The problem is that you can’t really get to anyone from KCC and always get the same boilerplate answer from a stage 1.
Is there any possibility that there is a technical glitch overlooking that particular Case? She and her family is patient but really worried and feels helpless in this situation. Also a DS260 backlog would have finished by now? Would it help to unlock the case again or other possibility to get to someone on KCC?
Yours faitfully
Ad.

There is still some backlog, and her case is not unique. I suggest patience.

Greetings from this end Sire BritSimon.
Please, help and guide me in what to do here.
I am a Ghanaian. My wife is a Nigerian. We are based in Nigeria. My son was born after I won the DV lottery and I need to add him to form DS260. When we went to make his passport, only that for my wife was issued and that for my son was rejected that he’s not a Nigerian. After we pleaded, they issued the passport. I am a bit worried if it is the right decision to use the Nigerian passport or we go to Ghana and get him the Ghanaian passport. My case number is 2025AF00052***. Also, I choosed Yaounde as my embassy and not Accra. Can you also please say something on this. Thank you.

It doesn’t matter which passport is used for your child.

Hi Simon,
I hope you are doing well!
I won a green card years ago and your blog helped me very much, especially how to prepare for the interview at a specific US embassy. I am very grateful for your resources. They gave me clarity and peace of mind.
Now I started looking into the process of getting the US Citizenship. Could you advise please if you know where to find reliable guidance about US Citizenship process and learning materials for the civics test. The local library has some decades old books which may be outdated, and there are some classes, but they are during my work hours.
I would really appreciate your guidance.
Thank you,
Evelina

The easiest way to study for the citizenship test is to use the free videos on youtube. There are 100 possible questions, so you just watch the video a couple of time and you will pass.
Best of luck!

How will we endure 4 years under a president who doesn’t believe in science, doesn’t believe in climate change, and doesn’t acknowledge gender identity? How will we cope with a president who makes policies impulsively? When you expel immigrants immediately, the price of eggs will rise, and construction companies will struggle to find workers. The uninformed president doesn’t understand politics; China is not the threat to America. The real threat is the German-Russian rapprochement. If there is a union between German technology and Russian natural resources, it will pose a danger to American hegemony. That’s why the war in Ukraine happened—to prevent any German-Russian alignment. The president is unwittingly serving Russia’s interests.

Is DV 2026 safe from the president’s actions until 30/09/2026?

A piece of advice for your sister: She should leave California and go to Maine, rent a house in a small village, and live there for four years until a new president is elected to avoid deportation. The police will focus heavily on large and medium-sized cities. The best place for an undocumented immigrant to hide is in Maine, in a small village where the police won’t reach you, Thank you

2. The DV process itself is probably safe, but Trump can introduce bans on some countries.
3. My sister???

Hi simon thank you for this great work!!!!
I am a dv lottery winner Af 50 xxx embassy of Algeria. I sent my ds260 as a single and i plan to get married next month. My fiancé lives in France and he is divorced by mutual consent (administrative divorce by notary without court not judicial divorce). I fear that this divorce will not be recognized in America, therefore my marriage is considered polygamous. What do you think and what solutions and documents should be submitted in this case.

I suggest you speak to a US immigration attorney.
